He is really nice.
By far the best Chem teacher I've had. Will literally sit down with you after lectures/during office hours to answer any questions and explains everything very well. You can tell he cares about his students and loves what he does. Gives HW for each chapter, but it helps with tests and he gives a lot of time to complete it. LOVEEE HIM.
His lectures were super confusing to me and not interesting whatsoever. His tests aren't multiple choice which made them tough but he sure does love chemistry. If you're good at chem, take him. If you're not, I would not recommend.
Professor GIles will literally sit with you in his office for hours until you really understand the material, he holds wednesday night problems from 6pm- until that last person leaves and the week prior to the ACS exam he goes over everything that could possibly be on there. Great professor, should have no problem passing the ACS exam.
Very passionate about his class. He is always willing to help in or out of class, and somedays I'd ask a question and he'd basically do the lab for me. Willing to work with students on deadlines if you talk to him.
His class should be pretty easy, provided you don't get too lazy. His lecture slides are printed out for you, though he doesn't explain much beyond them. Due to the nature of some of the material, he can have trouble with clarity, but he is always ready to help you as long as you ask him. Textbook problems are numerous, but not due until exam day.
Overall he was an alright teacher. I got As on all of his tests. He prepares you well for them. Going to class is a must to understand material. Instead of focusing on preparing us for the ACS, he taught what he felt was most important for general chemistry, which didn't happen to be on the ACS. Try to take another teacher if possible!
He is soooooo helpful. He offeres help sessions every week where he just goes over lecture and lets you do problems and you can ask all your questions! If you put in the work you will understand his material. But, thats the problem, he focuses on what he feels is important instead of focusing on ACS prep. His tests are not formatted like the ACS
People give Professor Giles a harsher reputation than deserved. Giles assigns a lot of homework, but they are based on the chapters for the upcoming exam and aren't due until exam day, DO THIS BEFORE THE NIGHT BEFORE THE EXAM. Then you will be able to practice problems for the exam . Lectures are ok but go to his wed. night problems, he is helpful.
He is very excited about chemistry and talks as though he is. Kinda fast paced but always willing to help. Has so many office hours and outside help sessions that if you are struggling there WILL be a time he is free to help you. He wants to make you understand what is happening!
As long as you know how to do the examples that he goes over in class and go over the recitation worksheets, you should be fine for exams. The exam questions resemble the questions that he goes over in class. For the ACS, make sure to buy the prep book to do well. Gave tons of extra credit when giving out final grades.
He is a nice prof. he speaks in the way of science. Its hard sometimes to figure out what he is saying but at the end of the day you figure it out. HE WANTS YOU TO PASS, he is always there to help and so many opportunities to get help with his Wednesday night problems to SI sessions to Friday night problems.
Good teacher, he loves what he does and is clear on what will be on his exams, I took him last semester and got A's/B's on every exam of his but was thoroughly underprepared for the ACS.. His class is more concentrated around the math then going in depth with the concepts which is the essence of the ACS. Good class not good for GPA
Chem is not my strong suit WHATSOEVER but prof. Giles is a great professor, however you have to take advantage of the opportunities he offers. If you just attend lecture, you'll be lost because he goes fast and its confusing. GO TO HIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT PROBLEMS/OFFICE HOURS. Hes always happy to help. B/c of that I've gotten As on his tests
I ended up having to drop the course because I changed majors and no longer needed this class so I lost motivation and ended up with a bad grade, but that doesn't reflect back to Professor Giles. He's genuine, and will help you out if you ask. Be sure to go to class and stay on top of homework. Tests are based a lot on the homework.
Giles is a great professor who clearly gets excited to be teaching. He doesn't seem like he's wasting his time by teaching you, and always offers help after class at multiple times throughout the week. His tests are very easy as long as you know what you are doing for the most part. Textbook is only necessary because of online stuff
For the final, make sure to buy the ACS Prep Book and work through all of the examples. His teaching doesn't cater for the material on the ACS. So, GET THE PREP BOOK!
Hands down the best professor at VCU. I was so nervous about failing Chem but he makes an effort to make sure that all of his students pass. There no way to fail his class. Take advantage of his office hours and after class study sessions. I LOVE LOVE LOVE him
Professor Giles is one of the best Chemistry professors in the department. He is clear and concise during lectures, and even though it was a large class he had no issues answering individual questions. There is a lot of homework but in order to do well in chemistry you have to practice. He also has out of class time review sessions every week!
Giles loves chemistry and his enthusiasm makes the lectures more interesting. Class definitely helps with material and he works out examples like those on the test. But If you can do the paper homeworks you will pass the tests. available outside of class & has weeknight help sessions, really a great prof. who wants to see you succeed!
Professor Giles really does care about his students and tries to inspire you to do well in this class. He gives a LOT of homework problems, but you have weeks to do them, so as long as you don't procrastinate you won't be overwhelmed. His tests are straightforward. I highly recommend him over the other Chemistry professors at VCU.
He is super nice and VERY passionate about what he teaches.. almost too passionate. He goes into a lot of rants and kinda stumbles over his words bc he gets excited. He is always there for office hours (Im pretty sure he lives there.) I suck at chem and I did ok for most of the year but the back half lost me. No E.C. Lots of HW.
Professor Giles I said probably the most caring and passionate professor I've ever had. He seems like he is almost always available to help (he wrote me a recommendation letter at midnight once) class might be hard to follow sometimes because chemistry is hard but he is really passionate about he material and will do his best to help you get it.
He is a nice, sweet passionate guy. But worst teacher in my Life. His lectures are not related to the test. If you need someone to teach you and explain chem, take polo instead. His tests are all free response show work for credit type thing. The only good thing he has is Wednesday night problems, go and youll get an A, had to teach myself chem.
His class doesn't really prepare you well for the ACS exam I feel like, but his tests are all free response & very straightforward. He offers a lot of help outside the class, so use it to your advantage. His lectures aren't always related to his tests, but DO the text book homework, it may seem a lot but it REALLY helps. Always gives EC on tests.
Really good Prof. if your a Chem major, really goes in depth in the material, however this may confuse those who are not as acclimated to Chem. He is super caring, will always help out a student, and is super passionate about chemistry. He does give a lot of HW, but it helps because his tests are similar to the questions on the HW.
The best chem 101 professors. This is my second time taking the course and it's so much easier with Giles. He is an excellent lecturer and makes you understand what's going on before solving the problems, which makes a world of difference. If you just do the paper homework, quizzes, and read the lecture notes, you'll be golden.
Although he is accessible out of class and willing to help, not a good professor. Makes simple topics 100x more complicated than they need to be. Talks insanely fast, is hard to follow, and tests are all show your work and zero multiple choice. If you can take another professor I definitely would.
He's a very nice guy and wants to help his students, but if you struggle with Chemistry and aren't already a math genius, you will STRUGGLE. Tests were very math heavy and if you're good at it then you'll be fine. Otherwise look for someone else that actually teaches you the material.
His exams DO NOT prepare you for the ACS final. They are only a couple questions that are hand written on his exams. Formatting is completely different from ACS and he leaves out many problems that will be on the ACS. You have to do lots of self studying. But you do get a lot of homework for practice but that doesn't help much if you are lazy.
Chemistry is a hard subject. I was scared going into his class b/c of the tough reviews. But i used my resources: tutoring, office hours, and Wednesday night review sessions. USE ALL THE RESOURCES and you will pass his class. He is passionate and very willing to help his students. yes, his exams don't match the ACS, but he holds ACS reviews
If you failed Chemistry in high school, don't take him. But if you're up for a challenge then do so. He gives packet of his lectures, but rushes thru them, especially work problems. Only way to pass is go to SI session and Wednesday night session (that he holds). Got to be determined and review, research if you don't understand. Good luck.
Rushes through the material and doesnt have office hours. He says after class but that doesnt help if your lab is right after his class.
Professor Giles is so much help if you want to try and want to put in the effort.. On the first day of class he showed how many people pass/fail which is intimidating but you have to start out the year on the right track.. GO TO OFFICE HOURS AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT PROBLEMS!!!
Dr. Giles is extremely intelligent and will take time outside of class to help you learn the material. Class is easy if you know how to do his workshops. His exams are almost exactly the same. His exams are all free answer, but are out of 115 so it's not that hard to get an A in the class. Final is the ACS so try to go in with a cushion.
Professor Giles is one of the greatest professors Ive had. Ive never been good at chemistry and did horribly in high school however I kept an A all semester in his class. It is a difficult course thats work heavy, but if you do the work and go to his office hours/Tuesday night problems youll be fine. Hes great at explaining concepts and cares.
Hes very nice, but makes topics more difficult than they have to be. If youre not already a chemistry expert, I wouldnt take him. He started the first class by showing a graph of how many of his students fail... Not something a professor should be proud of.
I didn't take chem in high school (a mistake) and I thought that this class would be a little easier considering it is the easiest chem class. I didn't really understand the material even though I studied, but I still passed with an A because he is a very nice grader & gives credit if you try. Never opened the textbook except for paper HW though.
Best chemistry teacher Ive ever had. Meets with you whenever he can, good one on one teacher, funny and clearly loves his job.
BEST CHEMISTRY PROFESSOR EVER! If you take Giles, you'll pass with an easy A. Make sure you go to his Wednesday night problem and use his office hours! He's great! I loved his class and would take it again and again.
He is really passionate about chemistry, which i like the most. In order to pass you will need to do work outside of class, like attending his Wednesday night problems, and a couple of SI session. As long as you do that and put the effort you really have no excuse on failing.
I ended up getting a C in the class, but it was my fault for not going to all of the Tuesday night problems. He always willing to help and gives out extra credit opportunities on tests.
15 extra credits on every tests. Tests are easier than ACS. Prepare yourself with the ACS book. ACS is not hard, you can do it. The way he explains the problems is easy to follow. Assessible after class. Definitely go to Wednesday night problem.
Nice professor but can easily go off topic during lectures. The class can easily be a snorefest, if no caffeine is taken before hand. Passing Chem 101 is possible if textbook is used and PHW is completed. He does drop the lowest exam grade, which can help with finals.
Dr. Giles is so sweet! He was very charismatic, but his lectures did get boring. This class is great to take if you have already taken chemistry and have a good grip on the material. Tests are super basic and focus on key concepts, but I recommend buying the ACS prep book and strictly studying that for the final. He adds a lot of extra credit, too!
Dr. Giles is one of the nicest professors I've met. He explains concepts well and as long as you pay attention you will do fine on tests (15 extra credit points per test). He is great about meeting with you during office hours and has a passion for what he teaches. Would definitely take his class again.
Dr. Giles is the best!!! He's super smart but he knows how to go back to the basics for people who have never learned chemistry before. Always explains problems super well and cares about how you do on your work.
Compared to other Chemistry professors at VCU I've heard about, Giles gives many opportunities for an A. I would advise against skipping class, but he literally gives you his power points on paper and online, so my friends usually gave up showing. If you do the homework before the last night of the exam there is no reason why you shouldn't pass
One of the sweetest, smartest people. If you pay attention in class and do the work you can easily get an A. He also does an amazing job of going out of his way to provide extra help sessions. You can tell hes passionate about chemistry and cares about students. His class prepares you for the acs but buy the prep book and do practice problems!
Giles is a great teacher. His lectures are interesting and engaging (no small task for general chemistry), and he is clear about what you need to know for tests. You don't need to buy a book, which is quite generous considering how much they cost. Just study his handouts and you should do well. Plenty of extra credit. Might want to get an ACS book.
The best chemistry professor I ever had. He has a lot of passionate about chemistry and cares about students. He also does an amazing job of going out of his way to provide extra help sessions. One of the sweetest, smartest people. If you pay attention in class and do the work you can easily get an A.
Dr. Giles is really nice and funny but I found it impossible to follow his lectures. In my opinion he's really fast-paced and I struggled to keep up with him. If you're new to chemistry and/or just suck at it I'd probably avoid taking him unless you're able to learn at a fast pace. He also expects you to print out and bring his notes to class.
He offers many opportunites for extra practice and review (weekly two-hour review sessions, and daily the week before an exam). Going to a few of these is a must. Great lecturer, a little fast. Exams are FRQs with partial credit. Homeworks are required, based on completion and turned in on test-day. Do the homeworks and you'll do great on tests!
Great professor! You will have to attend each class but he makes sure that everyone gets a concept before moving on. Homework does matter as it helps a lot for the test. Overall a great course you just have to go to class!
Organic Chem is HARD. You will need to practice A LOT if you want to do well. Giles was an amazing professor; he dedicated much of his time to help his students. He had a weekly practice session, which was very helpful. If you want to succeed, DO THE HOMEWORK several times until you understand the material.
This professor is very detailed in lectures and answers all your questions! Hes definitely available outside of class and is easy to learn from! He makes sure you fully understand the topic before moving on!
As I find with most science professors, they can be a little rambly with their thoughts during lectures. With Professor Giles it was due to a passion in the subject. Chemistry can be challenging but Giles always hosted extra study opportunities and really took the time to care about the success of his students.
Best Chemistry teacher in VCU, I was so terrified about orgo but with him, I actually love organic chemistry to the point of regretting why I didn't choose chemistry as a major instead of Bio. Don' skip class and take notes. Do the homeworks and go to SI sessions. 3 exams plus a final and homework, he gives extra credits! Very caring and nice!
Professor Giles was one of my favorite professors this year! This was my second time taking organic chem and it was way easier because his lectures were so clear and he broke everything down step by step and I got a B in the class! He holds review sessions once a week + S.I sessions. 100% recommend!
Easy class, his voice is just very boring if you know what I mean.
I don't know what he was trying to teach in lectures. Just read the textbooks and practice the problems yourself. He got off topic a lot but he was interactive. It felt like the problems he went through in class appeared on the 3 midterms. Unless you have Wednesday nights free, you will never understand what you're confused about the homework.
Had Professor Giles for both chem 101 and chem 302 and he honestly made organic chemistry very easy to understand. he is very helpful when you have questions and even goes out of his way to host extra help sessions outside of class. Make sure you attend the lectures since most of the material is discussed through his lectures.
He's great at teaching chemistry. He's also very very helpful if you have any questions. He spends a lot of time on one subject, so it's kinda hard to get confused since he spends so much time on it. It's a slow-paced class in my opinion. Overall he's a great professor that I would def recommend to others.
DR. GILES IS AMAZING!! He is THE most caring and passionate professor. He truly cares about every student and holds weekly office hours to make sure you are successful. Do ALL the homework to make sure youve mastered the material and youll be guaranteed an A on every exam. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!! IT WILL SAVE YOUR GRADE. I ended up loving Ochem!
Honestly one of the most dedicated professors I have ever had. Professor Giles really takes time to help his students. Every single week we had help sessions where you could ask questions and the week leading up to the final he had two hour review sessions daily. If you do the homework and fully understand it you should be solid for his exams.
Giles is amazing. Though his lectures are fast, he invests so much time in his students outside of class. Make sure you go to his Tuesday Night problems and stay after class to get your paper homework questions answered! The exams can be a little scary, but you got this! Always ask questions during lecture to clarify concepts; he always helps!
Professor Giles is honestly one of the best professors I have had at VCU. His lectures can be fast, but he always takes time to clarify concepts if there are questions in class. He will stay for hours after class working with you one on one, and he hosts weekly problem nights where he goes over hw. His tests are very similar to the homework as well
Professor Giles is probably one of my favorite professors I have had so far. Orgo is not an easy subject but he does his best to make sure we do well on the exams. He hosts weekly question sessions and is truly helpful. Final was the ACS and he held daily sessions to help prepare for that. Do the homework and go to his sessions and you'll do fine!!
I would not recommend him. Very tough grader, NO MULTIPLE CHOICE EXAMS, ONLY 50 MIN TO FINISH. Your grade is only exams and hw, no quizzes or extra credit. The average on exams is always low and he doesn't care. Save your time and money and take another prof whos more willing to help and there is more in to help your grade
I had an Amazing experience with Professor Giles, but that could be because I like chemistry and it was only chem100 so it was an easy class for me. He doesn't have TA's during the lecture so when we are working on workshops it might take him a minute to get to you but other than that a great professor!
Professor Giles is a great guy--- he obviously really cares about the material and is a passionate lecturer. However, sometimes he moves UNNECESSARILY fast and makes the tests ultra specific. He's super available though and makes an effort for everyone to understand. But test averages are super super low. Generous drop policy, though.
Took Giles for Orgo1 Spring 2021. Literally when COVID began and everything was online asynch. All his exams were multiple choice; Got an A from the generous curve of everyone not knowing how to do chem online. Failed orgo 2 with him after taking a year gap. In person was only written response questions, so different from before.
Mr. Giles was awesome. I didn't learn any chemistry while in high school because of covid. Professor Giles has a different way of teaching, but once you get used to it, you'll be learning a lot. Yes, you have to study and practice for this class. If not, then you won't succeed.
Giles is THE best! Orgo itself is very difficult because it's unlike previous chemistry courses, but Dr. Giles makes it very easy to understand. Note: you HAVE to put in the work to succeed. Just because he's an excellent professor does not guarantee you an A. If you go to office hours and have a solid foundation, you will see positive outcomes.
Giles was one of the best professors I've ever taken at VCU. Absolute GOAT. You need to go to lecture, understand everything happening conceptually, and go to his Tuesday/Thursday problem nights and, if you ever have any questions you want to ask 1-on-1, he's available for an hour after every class. The test is like the HW. Exams were 60min long.
One of the most caring professors I have had. Taking Orgo during the summer term was very difficult and fast paced since it was condensed into 4 weeks. Giles stayed after every class and did night sessions for extra help. Test questions were similar to the homework/ practice problems he assigned, and there was extra credit at the end of each test.
After attending his lectures, I can see why so many students think that he is the best orgo professor! He goes through the lecture slides at a fast pace, but he will stay after class to answer your questions. Attending his study sessions and practicing HW problems will help you learn important skills that improve your understanding of the subject.
absolutely loved prof giles. test-based class, so only abt 4 grades throughout the semester. attendance isn't counted, but he is not accessible through email, so go to class. can get fast paced, but gives plenty of time in class for questions and office hours. will be very difficult if you don't put the work in. chem isn't easy but he makes easier
Decent professor. He can often rush through slides but does his best to make sure students understand concepts. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't attend his lectures, you will fail the class. Plain and simple.
He is the best chem teacher I ever I had. I would say he does go really fast, but all his work is posted on Canvas, and his workshops are close to his tests. You can't miss one day or its really hard to get back on track. He answers students questions at the end of class and I willing to help you. BEST CHEM TEACHER!!!!
ORGO IS HARD!But what sets giles apart from other professors is 1 evening per week, he'll do problems for 2-3 hrs, before tests he'll do an extra evening marathon, after class he stays for 1 hour to answer any questions. If you go to all the problem sessions and can redo the HW by urself w/o help, pester him with questions, youll set urself for an A.
Loved Dr. Giles class! He makes Organic Chemistry easy to understand! The class is lecture heavy and test heavy (majority of your grade is tests and 15% is HW), but you can easily do well on his exams by attending TNP, asking questions after class, doing the HW w/out help, and group studying! 10/10 recommend!
Do the HW, go to his Tuesday night problem sessions, and ask ANY questions you have. He will explain until you get it. The textbook is really good, reading it helped me a lot. Lectures are pretty good, but he goes very fast.
Professor Giles is a wonderful person who wants to make sure that everyone in the class succeeds with the resources available. While his HW is long for certain chapters, the attempts you make (even if they're wrong) still count toward that 100% completion grade. On tests, he gives out hints at times and tells you what to show for the problems.
If he is an option TAKE HIM. He is absolutely amazing with the way that he teaches chemistry. He makes everything very clear and takes the time out of his day to help 1 on 1. He answers questions throughout the class and works out problems on paper, working out each step of the problem. If you have him and study, you will pass his class easily.
If you're a visual learner I don't recommend you take Giles. He's very caring and will answer any questions you have during office hours/tues night problems but it can be difficult to keep up with his fast-paced powerpoint lectures (DO NOT FALL BEHIND!!). His exams are hard so be prepared to live and breathe orgo for the rest of the semester.
Miss a class or Tuesday night and you wont pass. Dr. Giles will do everything to help his students. The rest is in your hands. You will fail if you don't put in the effort this class requires. Everything about this professor is top notch. Sign up before class is full.
I had professor Giles for both chem 301 & 302. Very kind and caring professor! He would stay as long as he needed after class for students to ask him questions. He is very patient. He holds Tuesday and Thursday night sessions weekly, he goes over hw problems. His exams are fair and does replace your lowest 2 exams with ACS if you score high.
Orgo will be hard no matter who you take it with, so take Giles. Lectures are fast-paced, but he will answer any questions you have fully. Make sure your Tuesday nights are free so you can go to the problem sessions. If you don't do the HW and understand the HW, the test won't make any sense. But, if you stay on top of HW, not bad.
Go to every class and night problem session. Understand the homework. The tests are hard but every question is similar to the homework, there are no surprises. Giles is super patient and caring. Orgo 2 will be hard no matter what. You take what you give.
TAKE HIM! He is an amazing professor that really cares about his students. He has something called Tuesday night problems at 7 pm which is where most of the learning is done. As long as you do the homework you will do amazing on the exams!
I was not a fan of Dr. Giles. Class is very lecture heavy, and he only speaks to half of the hall. Refuses to invest in a microphone so all can hear him. Your 3 exams make up basically your entire grade. Attend S.I. sessions, attend tutoring, email him, do problems on your own, and prepare to use hours upon hours of your time on practice.
Bob Giles is such a great and encouraging professor. I will be looking forward to taking other chemistry classes with him for the rest of my undergraduate years. I learned so much from his lectures and feel that he set me up for success in future classes. I mention that a textbook is used but that is only for the homework assignments (not many!).
Dr. Giles is by far the best professor I have had for an organic chemistry course. His lectures make the material easy to understand and he readily makes himself available after class to help students learn. If you are taking his summer course, make sure to stay on top of the material. He allows the final exam score to replace other test grades.
Thanks to Dr.Giles, I actually understood chemistry his is very knowledgeable and passionate about chemistry. Dr.GIles gives students more than enough opportunities for practice and help, just apply yourself and rework the problems you struggle with and you should be fine.
Giles knows what he is talking about, orgo can be hard to keep up with so regardless, it requires a lot of effort. Put in the effort and you will prob do good. your grade is based off of the tests and the final (and a small amount of the hw)
Professor Giles was really great for Chem 100. Pretty lecture heavy and you REALLY need to be there for the workshops; they're basically the questions you should expect on tests. He gives you credit for almost any work you show on exams and on homework so thats really helpful. Explain things well if you go to him for help.
lectures are 50 minutes so he has to go really fast.. you wont have time to write notes and probably wont understand things. you have to self study the problem is the lecture slides are full of unnecessary information and are confusing. the assigned homework is useful tho. exams are tough
His lectures are very fast paced for no reason. He flies through the content and doesn't record lectures. The test is all FRQ so get ready to memorize a bunch of mechanisms. Best way to study for this class is to go to SI sessions and do the homework several times. DONT take his class if you can't self study and keep up with the fast pass!
Isn't really easy to approach
Great guy, hard class. He clearly cares about his students success, and he does everything he can to help. He's easy to approach, and always stays after class to answer all questions. Be sure to go to his extra problem sets, as they are very similar to the exam.
Best Prof ever-very caring and always happy to help you understand the material! O-CHEM is a hard class and REQUIRES self study, hence it is a weed-out course. Do the homework, go to TNP, SI, and Tutoring and you'll do well. If you are upset about self-study, you should not be in college. This is higher ed, not grade-school. 100% would take again!
Giles is a very kind teacher in that he will stay after class until 10pm to answer any questions students have, even on weekends. he doesnt come off judgmental no matter the question and always answers sincerely. You are graded on 6 things in total; 3 exams and 3 homework grades. He let our ACS replace our lowest 2 exam grades. Class is all lecture
He speaks too fast. He flies through lectures. I already self-study enough but goddamn. Terrible lectures, homeworks take 4 hours each, and the exams are the biggest grades. However, you can replace exams with the final, and he has weekly reviews of the homework. He posts zero extra material on Canvas. David Klein's book taught me more than this BS
Orgo is one of the hardest courses I took in college, and required a lot of effort. Go to his office hours and evening sessions for Orgo and you'll do well. If you're not talented at orgo like me, memorizing the homework is enough to get an "okay" grade on most tests.
Orgo1 is a big learning curve so be prepared mentally. You have to put time &effort into understanding each thing as the exams are all free responses. Just attending lectures won't get you far. You need to master the homework, not the specific problems word for word, but understand each problem and why what happens. Lowest exams are replaced w/ ACS
This was the most difficult course I've ever taken but I learned a tun! He does "Tuesday night problems" and has extra sessions the week of midterms/finals. GO TO THEM. Grade is 20/20/20% midterms 15% HW and 25% final w/ at least 1 exam replaced w/ final; more if needed based on class average. For me, final ended up being 85% of my grade, buckle in
Great professor, took him for CHEM301, loved it; for CHEM302 maybe take another professor. You can probably still get an A even if you skipped all lectures for CHEM302 if you took notes on the textbook, lectures weren't that useful for tests to be honest. At least 15 bonus points for every midterm, total 115 points but out of 100 for grade, sweet.
Orgo is hard no matter what, I would definitely recommend taking him for both I&II. Do the Hw multiple times as the test questions are in the same style. Hw 15%, exams 60%, final 25%. He prepares you for the acs as his exams are harder. Know what works for u, YouTube, textbook, tutoring, TNP, whatever works for YOU. Lecture is good for I, not 2 imo
Really nice professor, class depends heavily on your acs final grade so you could do awful the whole year and still get an A at the end. He gives good feedback after class and will give exam points back if you go to him.
Best lecturer I've had. Even with difficult material, his explanations are super informative- but you must pay attention and engage with content for the full time. Grade really just depends on ACS but exams emphasize important stuff. Super nice guy, great class, and helpful lecture. Take advantage of him as your prof, go to TNP, and you'll do fine.
