He likes to use the time he has and not waste it. If you want a slack off class I suggest not taking him. He will make you work, even if it's just taking notes.

Very easy to understand. We ended up taking notes the entire class but the notes helped a lot when it came time to take the test. I didn't even need to read the book, all of the questions that he asked were right from the book. All in all, a very good teacher and would take a class with him again if the opportunity came up.

I can not recommend him highly enough. I took all three semesters of physics with him and now statics and dynamics. I would just prefer he taught all the classes I need for my degree. I'd sign up for the Gist University of Mechanical Engineering. Definitely rearrange your schedule to take his classes.

PES 100 with Gist is awesome. His lectures are super clear, and you actually learn things you WANT to learn. Your only grade is 4 tests throughout the semester..and he drops lowest grade. Very easy, enjoyable, relaxed class

This class is easy if you make sure you take full advantage of the notecard. Write all of the practice questions, not just the equations

Excellent professor. Knows what he teaches, and I even had fun in Physics 2. Make use of the note card: equations, diagrams, sample problems. Very laid back and lenient. I recommend him to anyone. He is just too cool. Gotta' love the sweaters.

The big thing for Gist is alleiviating stress for his students, He gives 10 extra credit points available for each test, and drops the lowest one. So nerdy and adorably funny. I absolutely loved him and I'd recommend his class to anyone looking for something to take to fulfill their natural sci requirements!

Gist is really nice guy. He's hilarious and really good at getting people interested in physics. I hated physics before I took his class. It helps that he's a really easy grader, but I legitimately liked his class and his teaching.

Ridiculously easy professor. Didn't learn a lot during class, but homework was easy, and there wasn't much of it. Tests are almost exactly like the study guides, which he goes over the class before the test. Finals are just as easy as the tests, and are not cumulative.

Gist is a very nice professor and has a lot to talk about during his lectures. One problem I had though was that his lectures did not cover everything on the tests, and he also told the class to not buy the textbook because he doesn't assign homework or reading from it. So when tests came around, I had no idea where the questions came from.

Gist is the ideal physics professor for those who aren't the biggest fans of physics. This course is super simple, the exams are almost identical to the practice exams he gives and goes over. He's also really nice. Highly recommended! Only down side, he doesn't tell people to be quite in class, and that's a little annoying...

This guy is SO FLIPPIN' FUNNY. We're taking the dreadfully basic math class, so it's like "duh math," but he makes it really interesting. He explains everything in great detail for the not-so-smart students. He gives out practice exams with all the answers online. When you take Quan/Qual, take it with him.

Ha! Mr. Gist is a hoot and a half. His class is all lecture format, so it can be boring. But he makes nerdy math jokes all the time and you cant help but enjoy yourself. Class is graded on four tests, weighted evenly. No mandatory attendance. Simple structure and reasonable expectations for a basic math class.

Take physics with Gist. Simple as that. No more needs to be said. Other teachers are all over the place. His exams closly follow the practice exam and his class is doable for a mere mortal. Milazzo is a no go..!!!

As other reviewers have stated, his exams closely follow the practice test with a few minor exceptions. No curveballs. No BS. Study the notes, keep up with the reading (but mostly follow the notes), and you will be just fine. Somewhat dry, but, that being said, I had him for a 4 hour lecture over the summer. Have him again for MAE 2104.

This guy is awesome. He does everything he possibly can to help you succeed. He provides a lot of extra credit opportunities and tries to get you motivated to do well. He made this class really interesting. If you just try a little and do the extra credit its practically impossible to fail this class. Also, he has cool sweaters.

Mr. Gist has been really great so far, he is attentive to any questions you may have and is willing to work with you if you're absent. I'd suggest trying to not skip class, the material is easier to execute well if you're there. He's a funny guy and kinda reminds me of a nerdy Austin Powers.

This is the best physics teacher I've ever had. He's just a normal guy who teaches you exactly what you need. His homework is typically only about 5-10 problems from the book, his tests are very easy, and he is a pretty funny teacher too.

I've taken physics three times this was by far the easiest class I ever took and this was the calc based class. Gist is awesome, his test are exactly what he says and if you did the homework, you took the test. You'll be fine.

Physics 1 Calc: Professor Gist is Bomb! would definitely take again. Gives you a practice test and allows you to have a note card for test setting you up for success. I also recommend spending the 40 dollars to get the online hw. I have not missed a point on the online hw all year while friends of mine lose point here and there. Going to get an A

As an English major I was terrified to take a physics course, however Dr. Gist made the topic easy and interesting. He gives an incredible amount of extra credit that makes it nearly impossible to fail and he is very willing to work with you. If you are good at science or not this class should be a breeze for you if you apply yourself.

I love this professor! By far the best at UCCS. Fun and entertaining lectures. I was nervous about taking physics but Professor Gist made it fun and interesting.

Really relaxed teacher that is fun and a little nerdy. He is direct at what he wants but even with a really large class he doesn't mind answering questions. I only showed up on test days and never did the optional homework. All the homework is optional and if you have taken any upper level math class before you will not need to come to class.

If u hate math and science (but have 2 take them) then Gist is who you should take. Great and very understanding/available to answer any questions. I took PES1000 and ID1050 w/him and PES1000 was easier (online) but ID1050 is manageable (I REALLY suck at math).

Robert is nice, but I don't recommend his ID1050 online course for anyone who struggles with math. The lectures do not go in depth at all and it's really hard to learn the material - especially the algebra portion. He is available outside of class for tutoring, but I really don't think this class should be offered online in general.

You don't need to show up to pass. You do get extra credit for turning in the homework, which he will ask for randomly. He only grades you on the four test you take throughout the semester. His very nice and willing to help if your confused, he over explains things, but it is helpful to some students.

I'm horrible at math, but needed to take and pass this class. Dr. Gist puts all his lectures online, so I could watch them numerous times if I didn't understand what was taught in class. Practice exams were also available online. The tools are there for those of us who struggle with math. Great teacher.

He is accessible out of class, and really wants students to succeed(even if physics is not their thing). His lectures are pretty thorough, but they do get monotone at some points. The class is easy if you try, as he gives extra credit.

I took Professor Gist's PES 1000 class for online and it was amazing! He has it set up so you can go the normal pace of the course or you can speed up and finish early. The assignments stay the same each week so you know exactly what to expect each week. He is very understandable and responds pretty quickly. Highly recommend him!

He's a relatively good teacher. I took PES1000 and it was the easiest science class I've ever taken. The lectures were all online so you only have to show up for the tests. He makes sure that everyone can pass and they are given the resources to do so. Overall, it was a great class.

Took this as a online class, there are many weekly assignments. No textbook needed. Gist does an amazing job compiling lectures, video and interaction assignments which really help facilitate learning. Very nice understanding guy, gives great and funny feedback in comments. His class and style made learning this topic easy and fun.

This class and my professor were great. Robert often went above and beyond. He created resources like calculators, abaci, and practice quizzes to give us tools to learn the concepts in a variety of ways. This class was clearly organized into 4 well-defined units and the small weekly assignments translated directly to the exams.

An easy A overall, lots of extra credit opportunities and has a very light late policy. He takes off 1% off for each day an assignment is late and it caps at 20% off. So even if you do your work super late the highest grade you can get is an 80% 21 days after the assignment is due. His lectures are very thorough and in detail.

Robert is a great teacher. Took INDS1050, and was a very easy class. He is always willing to help you if you need help and will even call you on the weekend if you are struggling. Robert's class is moderately difficult but he makes it understandable. Great professor! Would take him again.

As someone who has always struggled in math, I was not expecting to do as well as I did in this class. Professor Gist makes challenging concepts sound simple, and he makes math straightforward and easy to understand. He is kind, understanding, fun, and engaging. I learned more in this class than I did in all four years of high school!

I thought physics was off the table for me. I hate math but this course is so great. Made me like physics.

Took Professor Gist's PES1000 class online. Each week's workload was the exact same just with different topics. There is a weekly quiz but it was only five questions and there is a practice quiz you can take (no credit) that had all the same questions on the actual quiz. Work was very straightforward and easy but just redundant.

Overall, a good professor. The lectures took a while to get through, but I didn't quite have enough time to dedicate to the class or it would have been a bit easier. Very lenient on grading, gives you an additional week to turn everything in for full credit, which saved my butt majorly for over half the semester. Pretty charming, too!

Gist has a true gift for teaching. I took him for both math and physics and he was so good at explaining difficult concepts in a simple and understandable way. I have struggled in math my entire life, but I learned more in this class than in any other math class I have ever taken. He is organized, kind, and truly wants you to succeed.

His feedback is insane. So in depth, don't get how he has time to break down EVERY problem I get wrong. Its great. He is a quick responder, the class is boring but he will let you redo assignments to succeed.

Easy class, I love the style of learning. I picked up on physics pretty easy and I felt ready to learn in each new module.

He talks a lot. Like a lot a lot, and while the lectures get boring at times he is very passionate and is always showing examples of the material. If you have questions he is always happy to answer them. The tests involve no math and are all multiple choice based on the concepts, so as long as you pay attention in class you will do fine.

Professor Gist genuinely cares about his teachings and is interesting. I took an online class though, and it is packed with homework. Every week, there is 3 quizzes due, and two assignments. There is writing involved. The class isn't the hardest, I'd recommend him if you genuinely want to know more about astronomy but there might be easier classes.
