Very Left Wing, and VERY open with his opinions of Bush, War, etc. Not structured lectures, difficult to approach.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Number one example of an over-opiniated teacher. Very biased and unhelpful.
makes you feel like a retard if you ask a question, it's really weird, it is like if you offended him. he seems pissed off that you asked a question. his lectures are interesting and he knows his stuff, but his attitude is perplexing. i do not recommend.

Nothing but left wing propaganda and anti-Christian bias emenates from every lecture. HE skipped the entire Moorish invasion of Spain until talking about the Spanish Inquisition.
Tries really hard to make somewhat dry information interesting and something that we can make sense of today, like in today's world. Tests are pretty straightforward, always gives a review sheet. Can be pretty funny.

Can be very interesting, but you had better be very, very up on your reading or you'll get hammered in the tests. The lectures bear no resemblance to the text, so you have to know them both. Interesting guy and smart, but a tough course.
Hard Professor. When giving lecture he skips around in the chapters. Fast Paced class. You will cover a 20-30 page chapter in 1-2 days. Doesn't like it when your late. Tells jokes sometimes, some arn't funny. Likes to give his opinions on things the student brings up in class.
Hardest class ever! Dont take him unless you have the time to read a chapter a day and the commitment to study. Otherwise he is funny and knows the topic very well, so he can answer any question.
This was an really informative class. I learned a whole lot, and enjoyed the way Mr. Gomez presented the material, relating it to today's issues without getting totally off-track. This isn't an easy class, and you need to do the reading and take good notes, but you will get alot out of this class.

Notes are nothing from the book so don't even bother when he tells you to read it.Test very detailed,remember dates.Gives review sheets but are hard to follow because he skips around alot.Try not to fall a sleep,talk in class,don't drink,be late,or anything besides listen because he will humiliate u
It's hard for all students and nothing of notes or matrials to learn can help us better but teacher didn't help us! so, i would rate him lower cuz, he gave us hard time and hard test and waste of my time and money!

Tough, but fair, and really knows his stuff. You have to put in the time and effort-not an easy A, but one is possible. Enjoyable, fast paced class. You MUST attend, and don't be late. Tests come out of notes, but text helps with knowledge for essays.
VERY HARD!!! He talks, and talks throught the whole class peroid! He is clear,knows he stuff. He does suggest for a "hr in class you have to spend 3 hrs. outside of class to study." He means it. If you don't have the time don't take. Go over your notes everyday, EVERYDAY! IT works

AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS! Of the 35 students in his class last semester, 7 passed the course. He's rude and his comments are demeaning. He gets off by embarrassing you in class. His makes his tests with the intent to trick you. They are VERY hard to pass, impossible to ace. (Even if you've taken extensive notes and read the book) If you dont have to take him, DONT!
HE IS A VERY RUDE TEACHER. HE NEVER HELPS OUT THE STUDENTS AND HE IS ALWAYS SKIPING AROUND IN MATERIALS. HE HAS A BAD ATTITUD IN CLASS. IT SEEMS HE IS ONLY TEACHING BECAUSE HE CANT DO ANYTHING ELSE FOR A LIVING.DO NOT TAKE IT.
Gomez is knowledgable and explains things well. The text is an easy read. Do not be intimidated if it seems difficult. He is nice and expects that his students work hard and have good attendence. That is not an unfair request. He's helpful, but only if you ask. If you are unready for college, you should not take Gomez. Otherwise, he's great!

He is unprofessional and is rude. His mission is to fail you no matter what. I am an honor student and this man failed me. I was concerned about my grade and talked to him about what I can do better to bring it up or if I should drop the class to avoid hurting my GPA. He said to stick it out and he still failed me!!! He's also boring.
Gomez said that 1/2 of the class would be gone by the end of the semester, but he was wrong....try all but about 5 people!!! Very rude, goes Very FAST, lectures on everything but what is on the tests, most teachers want you to ask questions, but if you ask them in his class me makes you feel stupid instead of making you understand.
He seems hard at first, but is very willing to give help when asked; his tests come straight from the notes, so if you take good notes, it's an easy A or B. I really like how he tries to connect things that we study in class to current events. Makes history LESS boring.
This teacher is not very nice. He makes you keeps a journal 5 days a week to turn in. He says it will improve your grade and it was not the truth.I have other classes to worry about than to write a one paper on a day that I am not in class. He also make write a journal during the holidays.Save your money do not take this teacher.

This instructor is very difficult to get along with, this class is definitly not easy. You need to be prepared to take at least 8 pages of notes front and back each class, if you dont he will ask you why you aren't taking notes. This is supposed be college, people, not high school. Mr. Gomez is serious about his subject, and expects students to be serious too. If you are, it's an easy A or B. Good clear notes, very knowledgable when respionding to questions. Helped me see how things now connect to the past.

i have to agree, this is one of the worst professors i have ever had. he is rude and grouchy all the time for no reason. he doesn't offer help but instead persuades students to drop. he is not passionate about the subject. if he is so uninterested in history, he shouldn't be a history teacher!
I don't why he is still teaching. Obviously does not like his job or his students. Extremely rude to those who are tardy and yet is tardy himself. The worst professor I have had to date.
His teaching style is clear and to the point. Yes, he can be stern to those who are tardy, but I can understand his attitude as it interrupts his class when he has to stop to allow someone who is ten minutes late make their way to their seat. People find it annoying in movie theatres, why not in the classroom.
Gomez is not a good professor. It seems as if he just goes to class to get paid. He is not helpful, very unclear, and treats students NO MATTER WHAT AGE as children, worse than a 3rd grade teacher. This professor is hard. He is knows his stuff though. Be ready to study hard and take a lot of notes and make sure that you read the book.
Tough? Yes. Easily gets upset? Yes. Points you out if your late. Of course. As a Marine, I appreciate his fairness. Go to class on time and don't miss unless you call or talk to him first. His class is like being at any job, don't upset the boss. He will help you if ask. Plus the book is rarely used, he doesn't even want it in class.

Test are hard. He wants you to keep a journal everday for the whole semester, this journal gets really old after the first week! Every test he grades them.

Clear and to the point. This is a college professor and if you are not prepared for that, do not take this course. He is very stern and to the point. He demands the best from his students. He is not there to hold your hand, he is there to educate you.

This guy is a HORRIBLE professor. His tests are retarded and he asks questions that aren't from his lectures or the book. I'm an A student and a History major - I DO NOT recommend this professor. He is unhelpful and you will dread everything about this class if you take it from Gomez.
He is rude
he is a grumpy man, but if taken off subject, he is not as mean. But that rarely happens. He comes off as Liberal. If you have the choice, pick another teacher.

Prof. Gomez is not always very personable,and if you can't get to class on time and pretty much every day, don't waste your money, because he WILL drop you. However, he is one of the best professors I've ever had, for any subject. If you show up and take really good notes, an A is possible.

Okay, Gomez is a teacher who knows his History. I learned a lot from him. He is a bit hard but, that's because he expects a lot from his student's. He is big on attendance and tardiness. Read your book, take notes and STUDY!If you want to learn and be serious he is your man.
I thought the tests were rather easy: they came straight from the notes. Skim the chapters but don't waste time reading the book. But the class was extremely tedious to sit through. He is antisocial and shows no passion for his subject. I got an A but I would not recommend him; get a more exciting and helpful teacher for the same amount of $$.
I never had an interest in history before. I took in summer 1 and had no time to read the book but skim through. He gives time to ask questions about exams and make it extremely interesting. He may seem mean and a butt, but he is a good Prof to take if you want to learn some history
i had to pass his class, i tried hard there were like 30 students at the first classes and it was down to like 7 at the final, so ya he will drop you if you're not trying, or if your attendance is low,
this guy is a jerk. but his lectures are alright. you MUSY NOT be tardy or absent a lot because you will not hear the end of it. tests are only about 15-20 questions and are pretty easy. if you take notes. he lectures a lot. and lists everything he will cover on the board. but very few of what he lectures on is on the exams.
At first, Prof. Gomez will feel more like a boss than a professor, but you will get used to his style. Be prompt and be ready to take notes. He will answer any questions at several breaks throughout his lecture.
The other reviews are right on. I dropped him. Do yourself a favor and take a good professor like Nash or Keller they are awesome.
take this class, if you dont mind him constantly nagging, no sitting by the door, no interaction on the students part, and will make the WHOLE class leave if someones cellphone rings. he is the WORST history teacher!

If you can show up to class & ON TIME everyday, and only speak in class when he asks you to, you should have no problems. The exams are taken from lectures which amount to 4-5 pages of notes each class, front & back. Personally, I think his lectures are really interesting, but his constant sour attitude just leaves me feeling down.
Gomez is difficult, no doubt, and he's not exactly a sweetheart. But he is one of the best professors I've ever had. Show up. Take good notes. Read. In other words, do your job as a student. If you do that, you'll get a hell of a lot out of the class, and Gomez won't be too hard to get along with. I'd definitely take him again.
If you go to class, take your lecture notes, and study the notes, then you'll do ok. But, Mr. Gomez has a real temper problem. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT LEAVING YOUR PHONE RINGER ON! If your phone goes off, he'll throw you out of class in a heartbeat. The yelling and slamming of the door is also very uncomfortable. I think he needs to get laid.

I do not advise anyone to take this class with Mr. Gomez. He is rude and his tests are difficult. Your personality WILL be surpressed. Everyone is afriad to ask questions - what does that tell you? It is very important that u are on time everyday and are in class as well everyday he drops u after missing 3 days on a TR classes and if ur late 3 times in a row he counts it as being late he dosen't give homework,daily assignment,classwork,or pop quiz just his for quiz during the year and plus his final he also dose not like any food in class

This guy is not suited to teach. He will argue w/you if you don't agree with him, that is if you even dare to speak in class. He verbally attacked a student for not taking notes, and said he was going to check the guy's GPA to see if he was a "super-student." Really, who cares? He's a control freak. Tests are based on text & lectures.
This Professor is a good guy. Just don't show up late for class and be sure to read your text book. There are no assignments, just reading, and lectures, so study, study,study, and you'll do great:)
His lectures are straightforward, and taking notes is mandatory-he will call you out for failing to do so. His attendance policy is strict, go to class and be on time. He answers questions but often in a way that belittles students to the point that the entire class feels intimidated. It is possible to do well, so grin and bear it if you take him.
Don't take notes, take dictation. Don't look anywhere but at your notes or at him. He yells at people and kicks them out for insignificant things. There is no reason to take a class with this dictator. I found his lectures interesting, but his demeanor was a total buzz kill to the content. Enroll with another professor.
A lot of people who complain are looking for an easy A like in high school. If you want the most out of your money & time and actually want to learn US history, take him. Don't expect him to hold your hand; take good notes and study. I would've taken him for 1302, but he wasn't available.
OMG.. dropped him...he is so mean, it's like your in boot camp not a college class. Look at your notes, look at him but whatever you do don't look around the class. don't ask any questions either you just might get yelled at. doesn't care if you have something come up or not you miss a test, thats it you miss a test no make-ups no anything.

He just dictactes, so take a lot of notes, he was not useful. He only gives 4 grades throughout the semester, they are all tests. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, we never used it. Let me ask San Antonio College somthing, who hired this teacher? You come in this class can't say one word or he yells at you, only has 4 tests throughout the whole semester. No quiz's, no homework grades, no projects, no extra credit, & to top it off you don't even use the book that is for the course. Don't take him. Dunno why he is still teaching

Although I normally look for the "easy A" classes when signing up, I'm glad I took this class. Prof. Gomez is one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. I learned more than I have in any other class. He has no symphathy for tardiness; just don't take it personally when he snaps at you. EASY A CLASS, if you re-read your notes before tests.

My phone went off once, honest mistake (my realtor) and I missed an entire day of class behind it. After my third degree, I understand how college works and what gets the grade; this guy went above and beyond with his overbearing sarcasm and blatant dislike of students, going out of his way to insult people. This would cause most freshman to d/o.
This teacher is the WORST teacher I have ever had in my life, very rude person, no homework no quizes nothing, you can not speak or interact in the class, it is like he is the king, he will make you feel stupid if you ask a question, I studied so much for every test could not pass...3/4 of the class droped
I felt this teacher was really good. Gave alot of information, and yes he was very strict. And the only way to fail this class is if the student is lazy and doesnt read the book. Good teacher.
Mr. Gomez is a great profesor I dont know why many students say other wise. if you want a reality check and you want to know what college should be like, take him. to me it was an easy class all you need to do is go to class take notes and study those notes, i dont know how it could get any easier, and please turn your phone off or your out.
If you have any problems he will not help much. In fact he puts up a front so you don't feel like asking. This professor is very rude and he also says things that just are not true. He'll make a scene with you (drama). Demaniding of you but not himself. I can go on and on.
Really counts attendance and calls you out for it. Didn't study and got a B in the class just took notes. Questions do come from his notes but people are stupid and don't write what they should. Also he comes up with some really weird essay questions.

My IQ has dropped quite a few points sense becoming a student of this class. Can?t seem to understand how to achieve a passing grade. I?m frustrated and disappointed that my lack of personal knowledge with US History 1877 has made this course such a brutally painful experience. I thought school was where you went to learn? Not so much...
I read all of the negative comments prior to this semester and ignored them. BIG mistake. They were accurate. This guy is the worst professor I've ever had in my life. He belongs teaching high school. You can't eat, drink, ask questions, or be tardy or he'll embarrass you in front of everyone. Seriously - stay away.

Yeah he knows history pretty well but, does he have to express his annoying opinion everyday? No. I am taking him during Summer 1 & he isn't too bad with tests, we have 1 test a week and 5 overall. How sad that previous students were so hard on this professor. He does have high expectations of students, Afterall he is suppose to prepare students for the real world. He is tough but does want success for his students. He truly knows history and is passionate about what he does. I would definitely take him again.
Professor Gomez knows history very well,I wish he could smile more or keep the class engaged more.I would not take his class again just because I am an upbeat kind of girl,I went to his class everyday on time,He just wrote terms on the board and talked the whole period fast!However I do appreciate how he reviewed over the test after we took it.

If you already know history well this class is for you. NEED to keep up with the reading. DO NOT be late! Gomez does know History very well but during his lectures I couldn't keep track of what information was actually important for the test. This professor just grades on test grades and attendance. I wouldn't take this class again.
Great teacher,knows what he is talking about,and makes history pretty interesting. He is opinionated,BLUNT,and intolerant, but welcome to every boss you will ever have. Don't be late or rude, it's that simple. However he's funny and entertaining, and will give you what you need for the tests,but doesn't always cover everything in lecture so read.

Took him for fall 2012 and he is very rude, unapproachable, and he treats you like your in highschool. The class size was 35 but droped to 19 by the drop date. Almost everyone is barely passing with a B if their lucky. NO ONE has gotten an A. Really makes the course harder than it is or than it has to be. I do not recommend him at all.

Prof. Gomez is a really tough teacher i doubt i would take it again but he does give alot of information.So unless you like to spend 3 hours a day studying for his class then by all means take his class. Hes not such a bad teacher. Be prepared for major hand cramping though.
We are adults, and this professor treats you like you're in middle school. Exams are very difficult. To pass, you need to spend 4-6 hours a week studying. I did, and barely passed. Beware.
Awful!!! He completely belittles his students and makes it impossible to get an A in his course. On his exams he has an assay question and it doesn't matter how detailed you are if he doesn't like you he won't give you any points; he'll find any little mistake and won't give you any pts. And heaven forbid you're late he'll take off pts on ur exam.
He is standoffish but wants you to succeed!
THIS IS THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER TAKEN IN MY LIFE. I got a C with him and I studied a lot for his class. He will give you an ugly look and stop lecturing if you open a cereal bar or tear a notebook paper while he's talking. AVOID AT ALL POSSIBLE COST.
This teacher ("professor"=PhD's, not MA's) is the most one-sided individual I have ever had the displeasure of knowing. He knowingly & willfully distorts history so he can further his own political views.Whether he's right wing or left wing, he needs to TEACH and STOP pontificating. BTW...it's not a hard class despite what he likes to portray.
Gomez does not give homework or quizes. He expects his students to study 9 hours for each hour of class time. He'll cover 4-6 chapters before a test, with no review, leaving his test questions to be very ambiguous. No one in my class recieved higher than a C on any test. He delivers the information to the point, but does not teach from the book.
Worst teacher I've ever seen in my life. Forced a girl to take her stuff with her when she wants to go to restroom!!!
This professor can be rude at times. I've heard if you talk to him he will work with you. He goes to fast during lectures and mumbles sometimes. Attendance is very important, also tardies he does not like when people are late.
HIS CLASS IS HARD! HIS TEST ARE HARD THE QUESTIONS MAILY COME FROM HIS LECTURES NOT THE BOOK. WE DIDNT EVEN USE THE BOOK THAT WAS JUST UP TOO YOU TO READ ON YOUR OWN TIME. HE DOES NOT ASSIGM HOMEWORK OR REVIWES. JUST GO UP TO 3/4 CH AND THEN EXAMS COME AROUND. HE IS STRICK AND SOMETIMES RUDE. TRY TO MAKE HIM LAUGH .. MADE THE CLASS CALM FOR ABIT
Wrist professor I have ever had! He has assigned seating if you are late he will not let you in, occasionally he will let you in but you have to sit in a chair that he deemed to be a LATE chair. The entire hour he just gives a very FAST lecture only a small portion of the lecture pertains to the book. Cell phones are FORBIDDEN!!!!!!
Doesn't curve his test and if you fail 2 you have no hope in passing. Their is no class work and he is unreasonably hard.
This was an easy class. All you need to do is listen to the lecture, take some note, and you'll Ace the test. The test are multiple choice, so thats pretty easy. He is a bit strict, but thats about anything bad I can say.
He's is the strictesttoughest teacher ever. If your phone goes off by accident hell literally tell you to leave the class. If you come in late he'll tell you not to bother coming into class. And if you sit other then the seat he signed you he'll point t you out and make everybody stare at you as if you were a bad person .
Horrible teacher. I wish I had never taken him. He is very rude and negative. Every exam there is an essay question and he rarely gives points on it. Even if you write a page he will say it is not specific enough and not give credit. I got an F in his class, but retook the course with another professor and received an A! Not a good teacher.
Would NOT take his class again. He is a very negative individual, dosen't like late arrivals, absences, or when students interupt him with questions during his lectures. He is very rude & tends to point out students and imbarress them infront of the whole class. I complained to the head of the History department about his unprofessional behavior.
Professor Gomez gives the impression that he doesn't want to be there. He is rude when you ask him questions and makes you feel stupid when you ask a question he answered just for reference. He litterly yelled at a student during a test just because his phone went off. I wouldn't take him again.
It's imperative that you're well versed with the chapter before it's discussed in class. Tests are multiple choice +essay question. Participation, following all directions, and listening, even audio recording the lecture is strongly advised. Do not be disruptive! READ THE CHAPTERS! TAKE NOTES ON LECTURE! Don't waste his time an you'll be okay.
He lectured the entire class time but I really enjoyed his course. If you can stand a dry humor and very blunt person then this is the class for you. Extremely knowledgeable in his area, occasional jokes. If you want an easy history class this is not it, although if you are willing to work and actually learn then this class is awesome.
Worst professor I've ever had. IF YOU WANT A HIGH GPA DO NOT TAKE HIM. His class is pure lecture and he doesn't bother learning anybody's name. He won't even let you get up to go to the bathroom without embarrassing you in front of the class. Zero tolerance for cell phones. His tests are multiple choice but they were hard. I had to drop his class.
I would rather be sold into human trafficking for 2 pennies and a mayonnaise and cheese sandwich than have him as a professor again. I wouldn't have my worst enemy take his course. RUN THE OTHER WAY DO NOT LOOK BACK! He is the WORST teacher ever. Rude, condescending, impatient, unprofessional, impolite, ill-mannered.
It does not matter how much or how well you study, this is the worst Professor that you can take this course under. Dates on the exams are of very little importance, focus more on "what" and "why". Read the book, record lectures, don't just rely on lecture notes. The multiple choice exams are ridiculously difficult and the essay questions are too.
He's has a tough way of teaching, there's no homework or extra credit. There's only 4 tests in the entire semester, fail those 4 test or even 2 ?? you've already failed. Attendance is important, he counts every day , tardies & absences. All he does is talk, no pictures, no videos. Really difficult , bad teaching method, bad grading system.
H was strict. Some children come to class and expect a good grade to be handed to them. Work with what you have and appreciate having lived through it: or fail, or dropout - a lot of other students did just that. Come to class, be early enough to be on time, listen and take notes, study, pass and grow. All the poor reviews are from crybabies.
