He's one of the best teachers i've ever had !
take his class, quizez and tests are straight from the lecture or handbook.
Every thing is straigt from the study guide. very easy
veru clear and easy! just read his study guide
He makes semi-controvesial comments, makes class interesting and thought provoking.
hella funny! republican to the fullest. he didn't take roll...and I still went to class! if you want to understand econ, this is your class.
as long as you attend and do assignments you definately cannot fail. Sarcastic sense of humor. you will understand econ. awesome teacher.
If you're a conserative Republican who appreciates the values of our founding fathers-- you'll love this guy. Works hard at teaching. Is funny, has a temper and knows how to use it. The "A" is yours, if you want to work for it.
for a night class, this was excellent. he keeps it interesting, but you will definitely understand econ. i failed this same class at SDSU, i got an A in his, but you do have to work for that A...he's a tad politically incorrect.
funny guy, controversial with the republican bit but smart with it, very clear very good teacher
i learned a lot in this class. was easy to follow and he had his own study guide. read the text book, do the study guide and you will get an a. he explains things well. if you're offend easily don't take him. i thought he was refreshing!
Hilarious and sarcastic. Very easy A. His study guide really helps and he lets us out early all the time. Classes went by very quick with his humors and clear on the lectures.
He is the best teacher!!!
Funny and fun. Gives a great study guide. great at teaching. One of the best I have had. Knows what he's talking about. Super teacher.
Hillarious with his politically incorrect comments. Don't take him if you are easily offended. Wrote a great study guide that is good to use during lectures. 3 tests is your only grade.
Rude, likes to harrass and humiliate. Doesn't plan well. Of three exams which make up the entire grade, two were in the last three weeks. He had to teach one third of the class in one lecture because he didn't keep a lesson plan. Shouts obscenities, utter disregard for the students' success.
Again, agree w/the other posts here. He hates many things including students, foreigners, and democrats. Such a shame because he teaches you so much, but good luck getting through his humiliation and non-economic bull.
I agree w/ last post. Emotionally sadistic ass who lost his enthusiasm for teaching about 10 yrs. ago. Spiteful, bitter tongue; which is all too bad, because I have more info about Econonmics locked into my head now because of him than I've rcvd. from most of my other teachers. 3 exams only. hard
Great professor! He is very helpful with teaching you economics. He keeps the class interesting.
This man is Oh-so-rude.. he has no heart. He was cool the first month, but after it's too late to drop, he did a 360.. and hit us with 2 more exams within the last 3 weeks!... P.S. if you're a passionate Democrat or you're a little sensitive.. don't take him because you will get your feelings hurt.
hardcore republican. grades just based on 3 exams. need a sense of humor otherwise you'll hate his retorts about foreign countries and democrats
Ok ppl lets be fair!!!In this class you have 3 exams(somewhat hard). On first one I had D-(low 60)on second I got C (averadge 70) and I failed final. My grade for that class that he gave me was C!!I couldnt believe it.Yes he is stupid and hard-ass, but if I failed I would still take him
Hardcore Republican, very knowledgeable guy and interesting form of teaching. Considers liberals "communists"! Hilarious! Will insult you whether or not you agree with him, and keeps you on your toes because you don't know when he will call on you. Will gain humility. I'd take him again, got a
A fun and funny professor, who teaches Economics with clarity. Makes Econ interesting, at least about as far as it can go Gives a good outline of what you need to know. If you’re not open to his humor you might not want to take this class.
Political. He's open about what's on his mind.He can be rude... but overall, he's a good teacher. He knows his stuff and his structure of teaching is perfect. You don't need the book, you'll be wasting money, just get his study guide. His tests are very much like study guide. If you do well on his study guide, you'll do well on his tests. They're easy.
He is the rudest instructor that I have ever come across in my five years of attending Mesa College.
He is a very good instructer. As long as you study from the study guide, you should be able to do well on all your tests. Easy A!
he's alright, read what everyone else wrote about him, that pretty much covers who he is. if you keep your mouth shut, take notes, and study them then you don't need to buy the book. i didn't and i got a B. but he is hardcore republican so if thats not your bag you better choose someone else. i thought he was funny....
Great teacher. Foget the REAL book. Just get his STUDY BOOK and get to know IT. Group studys help for this class. He is all AMERICAN and I love that about him. He can be a bit harsh but he know his stuff. Take him and you will realy understand Macro Econ. To bad he does not teach 121 or I would take him again. Great teacher. Add him to your roster
This teacher is very conservative, refers to democrats as communists, and gives a very biased opinion of economics.
Terrible teacher. He spent so much time in his lectures talking about politics that it set us behind and we had to cram 2/3 of the class into the last 4 weeks. He's unaproachable, intimidating, and loves to make examples of students in front of the class. Very unprofessional.
If u just get over his cynical remarks u can enjoy the class and learn a lot. He knows his**** & can be hilarious w/ the amt of crap he talks. The study guide is all u need cause the test samples are all in there, except know some definitions & the ESSAY on all 3 tests. Have him check it so u can make sure it's written correctly. No homework :)
If u just get over his cynical remarks u can enjoy the class & learn a lot. He knows his s*** & can be hilarious w/ the amt of crap he talks. The study guide is all u need cause the test/GRAPH* samples are all in there, plus know some definitions & the ESSAY on all 3 tests. Have him check it so u can make sure it's written correctly. No homework
REPUBLICAN FASCIST
This prof. knows his stuff. There is not way you can avoid his political views and to me he is dead on. His teaching of the class at time drifts and goes of on tangents, yet his study give is all you need to know, study it! I highly recommend setting up a study group, it work great for me and my group. You will need to put time into this class.
By far the best teacher i've had in a hard class. yes he is opinionated and may be offensive but you can argue back which makes it a fun college class. He makes you understand the course which makes him a great teacher. definitly get his study guide too.
I got a "B" in the class. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TAKE HIS CLASS. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!!!
Extremely clear on what he wants and expects in the class. His study guide is all you need. That said, I absolutely hated his randomly calling on people and embarassing them. He seemed to "get-off" on putting people on the spot and if you did not know the answer he would not ask someone else, but work on the same person even if it took 7 minutes.
He may be offensive but it was an easy class. All you have to do is actually do his study guide and you will pass. No need to get the book. There is an essay on all 3 exams but super easy if you pay attention to what he wants. No homework. Argue back with him about politics! He will NOT give extra credit. He made the class interesting for me!
The Good: Don't need textbook but do get his workbook. Can drop worst grade of your tests, HW very easy, you WILL learn economics and make sense. Says no exceptions but corner him after class alone. HW will be on final so remember #'s. The Bad: He will demean YOU. Very offensive and hates everyone.
Don't ever take his class , if you are a minority . He is very bad teacher that I ever had ,. Take the other professor if you wanna pass the Econ .He actually did not teach you anything at all , all the things that he mentioned during the semester was retired . He likes to embarrass students in front of the class. He is the weird guys that I ever s
I was intimidated by him at first because he does belittle people but they were the ones who came in late or were not paying attention, ect. He was very clear on what he expected you to study or memorize. Out of 4 tests you could drop your worst grade. I did learn and it was interesting!
Dont need the book, just buy his workbook. He is super cynical, and most people just dont get it, but if you understand he is just being cynical you wont be bothered but amused by his way of teaching. As far as understanding/learning about econimics he was GREAT, the way he teaches is effective. Just dont be offended, pretend you are at a comedy
this guy is probably the best teacher I have ever had. He makes 3 hours pass in no time. Students who complain about him, probably have the IQ level of Forrest Gump. He is very clear in his teachings, and makes class fun and enjoyable. No need to buy the textbook, but the study guide is helpful. Pay attention or he will humilate you, deserveably so
Dont ever think of taking this class !!!! ..he is really rude and he enjoy embarresing students !! this is the weakest professor i ever had !!
He made econ interesting! Basically pay attention in class+do your homework= EASY A. He's not offensive, the people who are all whiny about his "belitting" are more than likely the people who show up late and disrupt the class or chat all the time, and deserved to be called out on their rudeness. Highly recommend this class!
This guy is as blunt as can be. Doesnt take excuses for anything. His class is straight foward. Read what is assigned and you will ace the tests. He goes over everything you need. You only need his study guide. It was very helpful. If you study and pay attention you will do great. If you slack good luck.
Currently taking him for Macroeconomics. This guy reminds me of Bill O'Reilly, which means obnoxious republican. Makes remarks about how US is the best but, doesn't look at our history and mistakes as a nation. Makes somewhat **** remarks, I would just call them ignorant. So far seems to be a challenging class, but hey, it's college!
GREAT teacher. All the bad reviews are people not witty enough to understand 80% of Gordon's "rude or mean' comments are cynical and are meant to entice converstaion and debate. His study guide is a ticket to an easy A. Buy the study guide, you dont need the textbook another reason for taking his class, and get an A.
This professor is good. Doesn't expect too much. You don't need the book. If you just go to class and study moderately you will do fine. He tells you exactly what you need, no surprises and keeps class interesting.
He is great! Very straight forward. Very clear what is expected. Highly recommend study guide as it mirrors his tests almost exactly. He is very entertaining and very funny. He certainly puts students in their place when need be. Strong political stance! You will learn econ in this class!. WARNING: don't approach him at the front of the classroom!
Absolutely awesome! very down to earth and practical. Blunt and honest. each class is stimulating and productive. put away your sensitivity and apply your intellect. it will take you far in his class.
HE'S A GREAT TEACHER! just don't take anything he says too personally :) he has a passion for econ & he really knows how to explain it! you don't really use the book, but you NEED the study guide! GO TO CLASS & TAKE NOTES, GET INVOLVED, & KNOW THE STUDY GUIDE, ESPECIALLY THE GRAPHS!!! :) if you get lost ASK QUESTIONS! :) ...i'm taking him for 121!
I cannot bilieve that a teacher goes to a classroom to talk about his personal life and his interest. I would say that the public schools in America is needed of new teachers with fresh brain...if you like listening to absurd stuff than take him. Mesa College should adopt a program to check on teachers while they are in the classroom.
This class was pretty skate. I dont have either one of the texts and i've got an A on both tests. I would recommend this class. All you need to do is attend class and pay attention and you will ace the class. oh but if you are a demacrat you are in some trouble...lol... you'll understand if you take the class
Great teacher and teaches on his aspects of life. Be aware if you argue against his beliefs!! Took his class over the summer, and the 3 hours went by so fast. You don't need the text book, but the study guide is very helpful!!
Took him for Econ 120 and made SURE to get him for 121. Tests are 85% straight from notes. Class was a good time, comments are just for shock value and he loves to argue. Knows econ! He doesn't take any crap so don't slack. I definitely recommend him 100%
Heavy class, the way college econ classes will/should be. However, this guy is unbelievable. If you're a Dem. he'll rail you w/ his Rep. views. Thinks everyone that is a Democrat is absurd. He is a rude, cynical, pompous jerk. Don't need to buy the book. Just stare at the wall, take notes, and review them. Can someone say Bill O'Reilly?!?!
This guy treats students like we?re in middle school. On the third day of class, he locked the door after the break time so anyone that didn?t make it back on time had to wait after class to face him to get their stuff. Don?t get me wrong, I was back on time and I understand his point but this is ridiculous. I work fulltime and go to school and
This prof. means well, but is very highly opionated. You learn a lot about the econ. that you'd never thought of. No book use, just notes and his study guide. Make sure you get the study guide, tests are based on it and some of the notes.Yes, he is a Rep and he does share his thoughts, but this is America, who doesn't speak up about what they belie
Helpful teacher. Very precise and to the point about what he teaches. His notes and study guide are exactly what's on the tests. One of the few prof that actaully speaks up when disrespected. Very respecatable guy, but is a little outspoken at times...lol
Hard subject, easy class!!! Some reviews say that he's cruel and an ass, but I think he says things just to get involved in class. He makes it more interesting and open our minds up to the world. Those who add that he's "Rep" must be democrats. I'm neither, and I can't still appreciate his efforts and sense of humor. Remember don't take things pers
This instructor is great!! His study guide (which he wrote) makes topics crystal clear, especially the graphs! He is a fair instructor and his methods make it easy to understand the subject. I wish he taught 121.
Class is cake. Do NOT buy the 'macroeconomy today' textbook. You never use it. Just buy the study guide, which he wrote and bases the 4 tests off of. Attendance is optional. He's defintely republican(as am I), but just ignore his comments.
Was not looking forward to this class... not a fan of Econ!! But, LOVED IT!! Professor is awesome and really made me enjoy the class. You do not need the book if you get the study guide. Got an A, and thought it would be a hard class. All you need to do is study. Easy! Oh and you have to laugh at his jokes!! (remember they are jokes)
This guy is very conservative. Although his ideas are politically incorrect, they have truth in them, not to mention they are freakin funny. Good teacher, misses a couple of subjects but will be covered if you read the book. Tricky questions. Come to class, everything will be clarified and will help you in econ 121. BUY STUDY GUIDE AND BORROW TEXT.
This class is a great mix of informational and enjoyable. Professor G is hilarious and make paying attention and staying actively involved a breeze. I really enjoyed the material and the way he taught it. This class made me want to continue learning more about economics. For those who say he is harsh grow up he is briging back rugged indavidualism.
this guy is annoying. Hes a good teacher, but is unnecesarily rude to students, which i think is distracting, ide avoid him if you can
I was worried about taking this class, but he made the learning process a piece of cake. He's a curmudgeon for sure, but who cares? His teaching style is direct and there is no mystery as to what will be on his test(s). Previous reviews are spot on in terms of not needing the hard textbook. Just get the workbook and you'll be able to ace class.
This professor is very helpful. I learned so much and he totally makes me love Economics. Tests are easy but you just have to study the lecture note.
He is a best professor. You should take his class.
Highly recommended. I'm about as liberal as them come but still couldn't help but laugh at his cracks on democrats. If you have a sense of humor and the humility to laugh at yourself then do yourself a favor and take his class. Lectures are crystal clear and everything that is on the tests is written on the board.
Very clear as to what he expects you to know, doesn't make you guess on the exams. Class was not hard at all, he has a study guide that he puts together for the class so you don't need the textbook at all! He's very opinionated when it comes to government so be aware. Overall, I loved the class and enjoyed it very much.
Gordon is a complete ****! Very disorganized, has no clue what he's doing. Try to stay away, he's in his own little clueless world.
effective teaching style. don't bother buying the textbook, all you need is his study guide. study, take notes and you will do well. definitely don't forget your calculator. he was unnecessarily mean when I forgot mine one day. honestly left a bitter taste in my mouth about his character but I guess he's an alright prof.
Great teacher! Straightforward no BS kind-of guy. I have nothing but the best things to say about him. He has his own "book" he wrote which tells you EVERYTHING that will be on the tests. Practice exams, fill in the blanks, multiple choice.
Robert is the best! Made learing Econ fun and connected all work to the current Econmic status. Gives u the answer for the essay question u just have to memorize it. U MUST BUY STUDY GUIDE! take notes and attend class and u will get an A. Pay attention or he will call u out! lol
Straight-forward, entertaining, opinionated about gov't and debates occur during class but he isn't rude to students about their views, buy study guide & you're set for an A.
His lectures are extremely easy to follow. He is repetitive which makes learning easy. His tests are simple and easy if you go to the lectures. Get the study guide, his lectures are based on it. He tests when the material is covered; no predefined testing dates. He'll answer any question and wont make fun of you. Try not to look at his hands.
great teacher !
Took him for 120 & 121. He can appear gruff, don't be intimadated, he just expects his students to actually be there to learn. There's no extra credit, but just pay attention (he repeats important points a lot) and you'll do good. Even better, got to use my first two exam grades from 120 for 121, since the first half of the semester is the same.
I took him for both econ 120 & 121. He is by far my favorite teacher. In 120 he has created his own book that has practice terms and quizzes. Very straight forward, super opinonated, but always welcomes a debate. LOVE this man! He may come off as a tuff guy but don't be intimidated by him!
Probably best professor I've ever had. Very repetitive which makes retention much higher. Very well organized classes. Has a few tests with a written portion at the end. Go to class, review the book, and you'll do well.
He uses repetition to engrain ECON in your head and it works. This class is very easy and he makes it so that you WILL remember the topics for the test. Exams are very easy and as long as you pay attention and take OK notes, you'll pass.
Disinterested students will like Gordon. Easy class. It seems, however, that he read "Free to Choose" and never bothered with anything else. He didn't demonstrate an understanding of modern money (no, taxes don't fund the federal government; no, the US can't go broke) and uses some outdated ideals (money multiplier). OA, not bad but not great.
His tests are very hard, but he is a very good professor overall. He repeats stuff over and over and it helps you to memorize it. Not bad for an econ class!
Uses his own book for lectures and everything is word for word. The first two tests are pretty easy but the last two are the hardest. your overall grade comes from the tests only and he doesn't curve or offer extra credit so study up. But its a fun class
Really good teacher. Lectures are pretty easy and tests are too if you pay attention and take good notes.
Professor Gordon was a great econ teacher. His lectures have clearly defined points, so take good notes and you won't even need the textbook to pass I didn't buy the book and still managed a low A. But if you're the type to get bored fast, buy the book since his lectures follow what's in the book closely.
Miss a class you miss key information that couldwill be on an exam. 4 exams, no extra credit. Buy the study guide, it expands more on his lectures. No extra credit so study hard & well. He will make you go up to the board to work out problems. Clear cut professor. First two exams are very easy, the last two are pretty hard. Overall I liked it.
I loved his class!!! He breaks everything down and repeats each part until its ground into your head. I didn't buy the book going off the recommendations from other students that had taken him before and I did great! But if you don't buy the book you cant miss any class. No homework just exams which are not hard if you pay attention in class.
I took him for both Macro and Micro and he's great at explaining concepts. His lectures are very thorough and he really emphasizes everything you need to know. Make sure you pay attention because he's really good at calling you out but it causes you stay focused. 4 exams, no homework, no papers. If you go to every lecture you won't need the book.
Helpful, funny and "sassy". No homework, only 4 exams. If you go to class, take notes, pay attention, read his book, you'll be fine during exam. Don't go to class late, don't use your phone, bring a calculator. If you don't understand something, he will make sure that you get it.
Prof. G. was a great professor for Macro. I wish I could take him for Micro but he doesn't teach the class in Fall. As long as you come to class awake and take notes and pay attention you will do great. His textbook is directly related to ALL his lectures and is great to use as a joint study resource before tests. 4 Tests, no HW, no attendance.
WOW WORST TEACHER EVER. I've never had such a rude or demeaning professor. He constantly picks on people & calls them "worthless" if they don't know what he's asking. Most insulting teacher, really shouldn't even have a job. Easy material but not a good person.
Good teacher, very clear on what he wants and expects. extremely sassy pants, if you look like you're not paying attention he WILL indeed call you out, so pay attention and be on your A game. Attendance is mandatory, book is mandatory. No homework, just 4 test.
Pros: the class was fairly easy, if you read the book you can pretty much sleep in class, tests aren't bad. Cons: he expresses his political views far too often, a little short tempered, humiliates students in front of the whole class
This is an average Econ teacher. His class isn't difficult but his lectures are not what I expected..... Room for improvement!
Robert can come off as a snarky man . Just show him respect and he will give it right back. He is actually one of the best instructors I have had at Mesa. The class can be difficult but he helps greatly .
Took him over summer. A straight shooter an a bit sassy, can sometimes be a little over the top with opinions. He brings up his political views a bit much, but it was all harmless nonetheless. Not the most articulate man, but explains REALLY well on lectures. No homework, 4 tests, textbook not necessary. He will call people out so stay focused!
very old fashion and conservative guy. some will like others will not. I like the way he simplifies topics, making them all easy to remember. however, him being 100% honest all the time, he would often ridicule left-wings and gets grumpy is we do not understand his materials. i think he's a good guy at heart but not my type of personality.
Professor Gordon Is a great professor. He breaks down the concepts very well and will help any of his students if they have any questions. He is honestly the best Econ teacher I've taken and would recommend him to anyone who has trouble with Econ.
Prof G is just as how the other students described him: a little political, on frequent tangents, and likes to simplify concepts. 4 tests are a mix of multiple choice and graphing. He will keep you awake in class and repeating concepts in class will make you learn the material. No tricks in his tests - overall fair and a good econ teacher.
This professor does a poor job of communicating with students. At times, he brings up questionable political topics into the lecture. A number of students have complained about his offensive jokes and his lack of empathy for others. Nevertheless, his course is not difficult to pass as long as you put in a decent amount of work into it.
No homework. Grade is based on four tests. Hes really good at explaining concepts and he makes the material understandable and relatable to everyday life. Super political and harsh towards students, but in a hilarious way. Will definitely giggle a few times throughout lecture. He will call on you to know the answer so pay attention. Overall
He gives a lot of real-life examples and the lectures are relatable. He's very political and jokes around a lot with the students, but cares about students retaining the information. 4 tests, and allows one makeup. No homework or presentations. Show up and take notes! The tests aren't hard if you pay attention in class and you don't need the book.
Professor Gordon is not willing to help his students and constantly makes offensive comments. Grade is based only on tests. Although it is not difficult to pass his class, he does not make the subject fun to learn. I recommend finding another econ professor.
Graded by 4 exams, which I did not have a problem with. He does not take attendance nor does he care about attendance. BUY THE TEXTBOOK. It is the study guide for his 4 exams and includes practice exams that are very similar. He has an interesting sense of humor and will use sarcasm here and there.
This professor is straightforward: he teaches concepts, he tests on those concepts, and that's pretty much it. The system we used for online homework was riddled with errors, though... He's the kind of teacher who lightens the mood by teasing his students about tardiness and attentiveness. If you can handle that, you should have a good time.
Four tests make up the entirety of your grade; the material tested on is verbatim from what is written on the whiteboard. His allocation of time is excellent, and he knows the material inside and out. It's not hard to get an A in his class if you study. The downside is that he is extremely rude and old fashioned. He can say things way out of line.
Professor Gordon is hilarious. His humor is all sarcastic and jokingly talks about politics, but if you don't like hearing it or get offended I suggest don't take it. He only has 4 tests but coming from someone who hates economics this was the first class/professor I actually understood and got good grades on tests.
Professor Gordon's lecture is a serious class but in a light way, he is usually making jokes about subjects related to the class and uses a lot of real life examples to explain some concepts. The tests aren't hard, they're divided in two parts: half is multiple choice and the other half is about graphs or definitions.
The good - What is taught to you is applied directly to test. There are no trick questions to throw you off. If you keep good attendance you should do well. The not so good - Robby has a serious demeanor to him. Some of the petty antics towards students is unlike any professional teacher I've experienced.
An absolute legend, 4 Tests, not hard if you study, does a great job teaching, very funny guy.
Professor Gordon is a tough grader. No office hours. If you ask for help in class he will laugh or just not answer your question. If your late to class he will expose you. The test reviews have nothing to do with the exams. He expects you to have the same knowledge as him.I would not recommend his class. If you can just take it with somebody else.
Ms. Gordon has a keen ability to track students actions throughout class. Will try to embarrass students if you look foreign or eye contact is not where it should be. I didn't feel I was challenged at all in the class. Ms. Gordon needs to quit the little antics and try to make class a positive experience.
I don't get all the negative reviews on his class.. Gordons class is straight forward. 3 exams and final. All the material is in the textbook so read!! do the questions he puts at the end of each section. Don't use your phone in class and don't be late, it's really that simple. Use your phone and you will get called on. Really easy class
Simple course but there are better teachers to choose from. Gordon makes a consistent effort throughout the semester to antagonize students. Acts tough and approaches the college level more like high school.
PT 1 - Just took my final and turned in the scantron but upon noticing a small bend/crease in the paper Gordon took my scantron and crinkled it all up like trash. He meant this as some kind of ironic joke because the scantron machine cannot read crinkled paper and since mine had a small bend why not just wrinkle n destroy it completely right?!
PT2 - After crinkling my scantron, I confronted him telling what he did just made the issue even worse thus potentially compromising my Grades due to the paper being unreadable by the machine. he tried reassuring me it would be alright and tried straightening the paper out but it didn't do much good. luckily I had another fresh Scranton.
This is a passable course if you don't mind dealing with the antagonizer teacher. Mr. Fingers is very focused on student behavior and seeks an opportunity to embarrass a student. This class will not inspire you but Mr. Fingers will get you on the path for a C grade.
The stuff you learn in this class you can learn better online for free. Pick another class more worthy of your time. Gordon is passive aggressively prejudice and irritable. He will display these characteristics in the boundaries of a class as many students can attest.
Only take this class if you need to fulfill requirements because the content can easily be self learned. The class didn't have positive energy and could have been more enjoyable.
I have never been more discouraged to learn and participate than with prof Gordon. His uninteresting teaching style was only contrasted by him yelling at and belittling eager students. He said "stupid Democrats" multiple times a class. The book was completely unnecessary. His grading rewards rote memorization, not understanding. DO NOT TAKE!
Not a good choice for summer semester. No homework, no extra credits, no review, and everything is in a hurry. Frankly speaking, his tests are not very difficult, most of which were shown in his class. The textbook gives almost no help, though he wrote it. The exercise in it makes no sense, just giving you an idea. Classes are important!
He is absolutely disrespectful. His tests are the hardest tests ever. Do not take his class whats so ever, you won't pass and if you do you will pass with a C.
I thought the experience could have been better. I was confident it was going to be at least an average class but it fell short of that.
Online textbook, weekly chapter readings, 3-4 quizzes per week,(easy) jus time-consuming. 4 exams total, 50 multiple-choice questions. just do the reading n take notes n you'll be chillin. the class is kinda interesting, but there's so much damn reading
I wouldn't consider Gordon again. Wasn't challenged with the coursework. There are better and more professional teachers to choose from.
Average learning experience. Choose a different teacher if you want a more positive experience.
This is a class you can pass with at least a grade "C". I've experienced some great classes at Mesa and this one falls short.
Not sure why there are bad experiences with this class. Sure, Prof. Gordon is a little rough around the edges and political at times, but he IS an Econ professor after all. His class is ultra (and I mean ultra) straightforward. Show up, participate, don't have your phone out, and be respectful. He goes over the exact material that will be on tests.
I thought class was an average experience. Find another class that will teach you more data analysis skills needed in the workforce. Gordon intensely observes student behavior throughout the class for slight things like tardiness.
Course content wasn't complex, only take this class if you are an Econ major. There are more useful courses out there. Not the most admirable instructor you'll see in the SDCCD system.
I found the class to be lackluster in depth and usefulness. Most of the info you can learn online for free in your own time. Like previous students have mentioned, Robert puts an uncommon effort into provoking students throughout the semester.
It was not a great or inspiring experience. Like other students have said, Gordon has a serious demeanor. He knows students need his class to advance academically so he may be disrespectful throughout semester.
I wasn't too impressed by the class. Most of the material I could've taught myself. I would give it a 1.9 if I could to be fair.
I thought this class wasn't good. Improvements are needed to make this class interesting and effective for the students.
There are lots of homework, but really easy to complete. As long as you read the material for the homework, you are good. The material is short and easy to finish. If you have to take Econ120, take his course.
If your a non economic major I would just pass on this class. Try to seek more out of your education.
One of the common classes you'll see at community college, nothing exceptional.
Wasn't good experience, I would probably go a different route if I had to decide again.
I'm not sure why so many students have rated negatively about him. He is slightly rough around the edges, but is very straight forward on his lectures, homework, and exams. You can miss a few lectures, but read the Cengage textbook, you will be fine. He is big on tardiness so be on time for his lectures. No cumulative final exam. Easy homework.
What an unpleasant teacher to be around. You can tell he's just going through the motions, doing the bare minimum so he can get paid. He couldn't care less about his students or their ability to succeed in his course.
Though there were only 4 tests determining the grade, I thought it was doable. The Professor gave straight forward lectures on primarily what's on the test (no unreasonable trick questions). If you understand the lectures and notes, you will do good on the tests. It may be difficult based on learning styles or how well you understand the subject .
I've had better instructors, it was kind of a bland experience I wouldn't recommend it.
1-2 chapters every 2 weeks with very short assignments per chapter which was significantly less than any other class I have taken this semester. Great to get the credits for a stats class.
My first D, I'm not a math person, but it was solidified with this class, give yourself time & go to the stats workshop if you're like me, otherwise there is no passing this class. I didn't jive with his teaching style either, attendance is optional, but you'll need to go. If you're a math person, go for it.
I took him in person and really liked him. Really clear explanations and examples in class so you don't have to do any reading as long as you show up. The Cengage homework online is unlimited attempts so that gives a good buffer for your grade. He is not accommodating for extending deadlines etc.
There are better instructors at Mesa College, only take this class if you have to.
This class fell short of expectations for me. I would probably seek a more comprehensive curriculum that fits my career choice.
Professor gave lots of examples of the formulas and was always willing to help you after class if you needed it. If you attend in person pay attention to lectures and take lots of notes. Unlimited attempts at homework and quizzes are open book, so you have many chances to bring up your grade. Put in the time and effort and you can pass this class.
This is not the hardest class I've come across however it's not the most stimulating experience. I've had some good instructors here at Mesa and should've found better counsel regarding business and economic matters.
One of the mediocre courses at Mesa College to be honest. You might learn a few useful things but not enough to recommend the class to a prospective student.
I didn't think this was an impactful course. As a student you have to find high quality courses which is hard to do.
This class could use some improvements in the curriculum. Until those improvements are made I can't recommend Robert to any student.
I thought this course lacked some career advancement opportunities. Without career opportunities you can't find a job.
Certainly a course that could use an improvement on a fundamental level. I don't recommend this course to any incoming student. I feel it was too basic for my needs.
I had high hopes for this course but for some reason it didn't fulfill my curiosity. If you are a new student I would choose some different courses that Mesa College offers.
I think it fell short of the low expectations I had after reading the reviews. Some students might have different expectations than me that's ok. Just know you probably won't be on your way to the Noble Prize after a semester with Gordon.
I think the content in this course including the instructor was below average and unexceptional this semester. Many courses to choose from in the SDCCD catalogue that would suit a student better.
I don't think this class was good, I didn't really enjoy it. Only take this course if your major requires it. Instructor seems like a tough guy character and not likable. Does the minimum for the paycheck.
I thought I got shortchanged with the curriculum. It could use some more support for career advancement. I would pass on Gordon if I had to choose again.
I felt this course was just short of mediocre. Could use some improvements on different phases of the academics. Overall I feel a "D" grade is attainable for the average student.
This review is for Robert Lee Gordon of Mesa College. I thought it was substandard compared to some other classes I took. I feel it was more of a high school level class. The class lacked energy and tenacity which is why I don't recommend this class to anybody.
I thought the curriculum was deficient but met the bare minimum of academics. I didn't feel too confident about my career prospects after this class. If you are transferring out of Mesa to SDSU I would avoid Gordon over there too.
I didn't feel strongly about the business applications. I felt it was too broad at certain junctures. Instructor seems like a stern guy and not highly acclaimed in the economic field. I would pass on him if I had to choose again.
My assessment is that the concepts were rudimentary and not much variance in the curriculum. I probably would advise a student to carefully decide another academic plan with deeper technical skills.
My opinion is that this class wasn't the most prominent in the business field but meets the shallow requirements to qualify as a college course.
I feel it wasn't a scholastic achievement taking this class. Most employers potentially will not be fascinated with this type of coursework on the resume but you need it to advanced your studies.
I don't think it was a prestigious class or instructor in any way. However if you need a primer for economics it will barely suffice for your needs. I don't think I appreciably gained knowledge in this course that will increase my competitiveness.
I thought this course by Robert Lee Gordon lacked the depth to make this a quality course. Has some relevant concepts but it was weak in the areas I found important. If you don't need this course for your major I would avoid.
Honestly, this is one of the worst teachers I have ever had with no disrespect intended to him. He is a nice enough person and seems like he wants his students to succeed, but he does not respond to emails or messages, and if you try to ask him a question in person. He usually brushes it off and doesn't help out or give a real answer don't take him
I don't think the skills learned were diversified enough for a student to penetrate into high level employment. Learned a few things that may be useful. Overall, I feel it's not a class I would enroll into again.
Hate to be critical but there's always room for improvement in the course. Average course I probably wouldn't take again.
Probably one of the more average courses in the SDCCD curriculum. I don't feel too confident about my skills after this class but time will tell.
I thought the course was a little dull. Could use some polishing to make it a more effective class for students. Students could use a curriculum more curated toward their goals which are not the same.
Probably not the most refined program SDCCD offers. However you can understand some basic things to get you into other courses.
In my opinion, I thought it wasn't the most effective class at the community college level. If you are transferring to a 4 year college, you might see the same professors locally. Gordon is at SDSU too, so try to avoid him there too.
One of the more mundane courses available at the community college. Not sure if I developed enough diverse skills to compete with the best students but we'll see. I probably don't recommend this class to any student.
Vanilla course you need to continue your studies, finished the course uninspired.
Gordon's tutelage leaves more to be desired but it provided the educational minimums set forth by the school district. I probably would find another course next time around.
I thought the concepts in this class were articulated on basis. Nothing great about this course but it fulfills some objective.
I thought it wasn't the most effective class in our community college. Basic course teaching the fundamentals. Applicability for employment remains to be seen.
An average course, could use some improvements. Helpful resources like Unstuck study and a curated curriculum could make it more engaging. Not a class I'd take again.
I thought this course marginally built the foundational skills to increase my employability. Not much networking opportunities in the faculty and alumni here which is not good. You have to really reach out to people.
You probably won't become the next Warren Buffett or work at Goldman Sachs after a class like this. However, you can learn basic information.
He wasn't proficient with his teaching.
Not a trailblazing course in any way. I thought it wasn't the most effective use of credits for the undergraduate. Learning macroeconomics from Gordon is not going to break you into any industries from my experience.
Below average course for community college standards. No breakthroughs in economic research by Gordon that I've seen published. Not too confident on my career prospects after this course.
Not the deepest course you'll enroll in at community college. However you'll learn some basic skills that may or may not be useful.
Overall 4 tests, takes no assistance, and no homework. Teaches poorly and fast. Uses a textbook which he doesn't use much. I would not recommend if you want to actually learn.
He grades 4 tests, each worth 100 points, and they get harder every time. No homework or quizzes—just your notes and the book. He likes to randomly pick students to answer questions or challenge them, and he really hates cell phones in class. No emails or phone questions if you have something to ask, it's face to face only.
I wasn't too impressed with the curriculum. Didn't finish the class with confidence to start a career.
For this ECON 120 class, you must attend every lecture unless you can get the notes from someone who attends. The professor says he uses the textbook, but most of the test questions come from his class notes. The tests themselves are fairly easy.
