Great guy, great accent, great class

He is an awesome teacher. His examples are fun, his accent is cool, easy to follow lectures.

Great professor.Follow his lecture carefully,note down all the examples he explains, do all 4 homeworks.

His class is very easy to pass if you at least do the homework decently. It is hard to get an A in the class because it becomes much harder at the end. He is a really good teacher and if you pay attention in class you will have no trouble with the class at all except for maybe the last two weeks.

9/16/05 3:35am QTP...at first i really hate this class because its bored and the materials are hard to understand...i came to Prof. Gorton and he uses his best knowlesge to help i understand the materials...the test are based on the lecture, homework(helpful), and book...if you study you will do good...i recommend this class to everyone...GOODLUCK.

This class was in general is a little confusing but the professor does a great job using examples and is extremely willing to help u understand, he is very nice...but if you take this class you MUST attend class or you will not pass. Very little HW and tests are easy if you go to class and do the 3 Hw assignments.

Clear lectures and a good sense of humor and somehow keeps the class interested, even at 8am. 2 Exams, 4 homeworks, all pretty easy if you go to class and take notes.

Great and well-organized teacher. If you do not like Gwyneth Paltrow, you will have a tough time in the class... haha joke joke. One of the classes I enjoyed going to, I feel sorry that I missed a few classes because of sickness. You just need to put in hard work and effort to do good in class. Would recommend his class to anyone!

Just attend class regularly, and pay full attention. Do your assignments and study for tests, and you will at least get a B. His lectures are absolutely helpful, and he is a funny gentleman. I highly recommand him to everyone.

Come in with a basic knowledge of how logic works & you'll be FINE. He goes over everything you need so thoroughly, I hardly read the book. The hw is easy if you get it, & the test is just hw minus notes (w/ study guide of all the questions asked!). I found class boring because how easy it was, but the squirmy British Gorton is quite amusing.

Great professor. He tries to make class interesting. Do your work. All of it and you will be fine. Got to class too. Show up he likes to see his students face. He has a bit of an ego.

Gorton is a fine guy trying to make sure we're learning and having a great time at the same time. However, it's important to be there and don't miss out of his lengthy yet valuable learning of Philosophy. For that, he's one heck of a guy, especially to his accent and likes of Paltrow.

He's truly awesome. he's really clear in what he expects out of the class and his lectures really help you understand the material. he gives several examples so you understand. there are 3 homework assignments and 2 tests. his accent is really cool too.

Four homework assignments (each 10% of grade), midterm (20) & final (40%). Attendence is mandatory! He is very helpful. Also, the notes he gives in class are exactly what is on the tests. I thought the class was going to be a lot harder, but it was really easy if you read and go to each class.

In my opinion: This professor is one of the best professors I know! You would love him and his teaching style. Phil 1000 is kind of challenging, but this professor makes the lessons easy to understand. He simplifies complex things. You would love him and his teaching style. Phil 1000 is kind of challenging, but this professor makes all the lessons very easy to understand. 3 Homeworks, 1 final, 1 midterm. He does count attendance. Buy the textbook because you'll need it. Pay attention and NEVER miss a day of class or else you will get behind. I recommend Prof. Gorton to a non-lazy individual that actually wants to learn something.

By far, Professor Gorton has got to be the best Philosophy professor in CSUEB. In teaching, he is very playful and uses examples that interests students. He is silly but still very professional. He taught me a great deal of Philosophy and I really enjoyed it. I'm glad I took his class.

Prof Gorton is so cool I had so much fun in his class and still learned quite a bit.He finds ways to be playful yet still be teaching you someone's theory.He is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had.He can be a little picky for papers but just do the reading and answer all of his ?'s straightforward and clearly and you'll do fine.

He is very Knowledgedable, and funny, he enjoys to tell jokes that are related to what he is teaching. I would highly recommend pay attention because of he sees you sleeping he will call on you. To wrap it all up, he is a teacher you would definatly would want to learn from.

Very funny professor. I love his analogies. If this is your first class in the morning, just attend. Don't forget to do his one page assignments every week.

He's British so whenever he talks I feel like I'm in Hogwarts. The material is tough and going to class will help ALOT due to his great and funny analogies. Make sure you make friends in there to compare answers for the hw. And he is always willing to help when you ask.

cool teacher, i barely passed not cause of the teacher but case of the subject matter, you really gotta study hard to understand this stuff, but he always available and willing to help i honestly couldn't pass this class without his help

This is the funniest professor I have ever had this is a very interesting class. very difficult material,but interesting professor Gorton makes this class as easy as possible take him, by the way for people who are late you have to punctual he takes attendance strictly if you are late by one minute literally he will mark you late, so be early.

Class is not as easy as suggested.Come to class and participate will add to your grade. Answers are in the text, must read carefully. Picky in grading, an A is an excellent paper little/no mistakes. This guy rocks. He has a great sense of humor, and loves his subject. As long as you engage him, and don't sit there staring blankly, you will have a great time.

It's really lecture class not discussion so it can be boring. The assignments range from being difficult to easy, he's straight forward with what's expected. You can visit his office hours but I didn't find them really helpful. I wish he talked more about the homework and related it with the class lectures so it wouldn't be so hard

Prof. Gorton really cares about his students success. Even though he was a little confusing and hard at times, he is always willing to help. He's very funny too!

If you are thinking of taking Phil 1000. Take professor Robert Gorton!!! He is very willing to answer your questions. I can see that he tries his best to make sure everybody understands the materials. Plus, he has HUGE sense of humor. If you attend the classes and make effort in doing homework, you will do fine in this class.

Gorton is clear and to the point. The class I had him was only an hour and 10 min so if you missed a class be sure to get the notes from somebody. He gave 4 homework, a midterm and a test. He wasn't a tough grader and if you went to class and paid attention the the class is super easy.

Took him about 3 years ago and he's an absolute delight. Super cool accent, odd look on his face that really gives him humorous character. Very clear in his lectures and gives little homework. Very helpful and has good pace in lecturing. Class doesn't get boring or tedious because he moves from one thing to another fairly quickly. TAKE HIM!

Professor Gorton is great! His lectures are so organized, notes on the chalk board are always neat and organized. He always kept the class entertaining, made sure everyone understood the material before moving on. By far, one of the best professors I've had here at this school! Hope to take him again! After reading his reviews, I was honestly scared to take Gorton, but this class wasn't bad at all, I never even read the book and I would get A's on the hw and exams. He's a good prof, you do have to work for it though, but it's not that hard to get an A. Don't miss class, otherwise you'll miss a lot of material. Easy class if you put in the work.

His lectures are clear and straight to the point, lots of examples and easy to follow along with the book. Very organized and willing to clarify and answer questions. There are 4 HWs, 1 Midterm, 1 Final and your grade will be the average of those. Be prepared to be called on in class, he loves to involve students. Easy class, definitely take him!

Need to go to class or else you'll get behind. Typically you write notes, towards the end of class he'll randomly call on students to answer questions from the textbook. You're graded on 4 HWs (each 1-10pts), Midterm (1-10 points x2), and Final (1-10 points x 4). Miss more than 2 classes you lose points. If you need help go to his office hours.

This class had was the most difficult class I had this quarter, and I believe its because the book makes everything confusing. Prof. Gorton is really good at explaining the content, but his handwriting is difficult to read at times. His study guides are exact replicas to the exams. Other than that, its a pretty solid class. Difficult, but solid.

Professor Gorton is a really great professor. If you don't get the topic he most definitely tries to explain it better. I found the textbook useful. The study guides are what is going to be on the midterm and final. Also very funny. I recommend you take him. Lectures help a lot.

Gorton takes role every day! The textbook is a must, super helpful! read and take ur time on all 4 homework and you'll pass. Use the practice problems from the textbook and the answer key he provides. Honestly how do people expect to pass if they don't try or show up lol.

Prof. Gorton is a good teacher. He kinda goes on tangents but is very clear in his explanations and lectures. I recommend going to the SI sessions. Tough grader, very picky. Picks on students to make a funny metaphor in order for students to better grasp the information. Do the readings! All the Hw is reading. Youll get lost if you dont read.

okay.. at first I did not like Gorton. He seemed weird and and confusing and crazy but when that first came back and I got a B+ I realized he is a DAMN good teacher. He tells a lot of weird stories and weird examples but they work ! they stick in your brain! So do yourself a favor and take Gorton.

Gorton is a good professor, very knowledgeable. I was struggling in his class so I went to his office hours and he really really helped me. Just participate and go over the material with him. about 7 homework assignments 2 midterms and a final if im not mistaken.

Currently taking his freshman topics in philosophy and it is easy! All you have to do is attend your zoom meeting and listen to him! There's a couple short answer homework that is due every other week (depending which group you're in). There's day he'll do pop quiz which is really easy only 5 questions so attend class! No midterms and only 1 final!

I loved him. he's so quirky and he tries his best to relate to you. He gives very detailed examples and makes sure you understand. He doesn't give a lot of homework either, just take notes and pay attention and you'll be fine.

He was one of my favorite teachers this year and kind of made me interested in philosophy. Make sure you go to every class because if you miss one, you really will be confused the next class. Pretty funny and entertaining. Do yourself a favor and take this class!

I had a great time in Professor Gorton's class. He will tell you on the first day of class to take the four homework assignments seriously, LISTEN TO HIM. I was able to pass with a B after having an F at the beginning of the semester so it's pretty easy to turn your grade around as long as you do the work. Don't be afraid to ask questions either!

Gave great examples for topics in lecture!! Had a great time in his class, would take again. He doesn't give much homework but are worth some points. Midterms are semi difficult but taking notes in class and going over them help.

Professor Gorton is very understanding and does his best to make sure everyone understands the material. Gorton is very funny and his lectures are always informative. The only drawback is that you're graded out of 6 assignments--2 exams and 4 hws. You have to put effort into the hw in order to do well but the good thing is that the exams are very similar to the assignments.

Prof. Gorton is such a hilarious and friendly guy! His lectures helped me understand the material well. The only problems I had with his class is that your grade is based on very few assignments (4 HW, 2 exams) and that some of the homework questions are kind of confusing. However, Gorton is very understanding and willing to help if you just ask.

Took Intro to Ethics fall semester of 2022-2023. Had a fantastic time. Very clear and encourages class discussion. Very lecture heavy. He's clear that he doesn't mind you skipping, but I'd advise attending anyways. Trying to learn from the online notes alone is not fun. He DOES use the textbook, so do your reading.

BEST PROFESSOR EVER! I took him for PHIL-100 in Spring 2023. His class was fun! He cares about his student and he would help me understand the material anytime I had a question. You should ask for help; don't be afraid. I always ask for help and that helped me in passing the class he is always available to help his students, even meeting at Zoom.

The only things that will matter for your grade are the 3 homework assignments, midterm, and the final (cumulative). Professor Gorton is funny and his lectures are interesting. He is also willing to help you on anything. Even though he may call on you randomly, you can always tell him if you don't want to be called on and he won't.
