Semester end project is ridiculous and the text is nothing but repetition for five chapters as well as endless vocab.
He makes the class interesting and it's very fun class. He explain everything cleary and very helpful
Don't take him for DS 71. he has no idea what he's talking about. Great guy though...
He's really easy, but sometimes he apears confused. If you want to learn the materials, you'd have to do more than the hw he assigns.
One smooth dude!
Boring class = boring lecture. Not even an awesome prof could make this interesting. Make a friend take this with you so you can be in a good group. He's an ok guy, late all the time, and you don't need to be at every lecture.
His lectures are great, and he tells you interesting stories. I have to admit the subject is somewhat boring, but he tries to make it realistic and understandable. Very helpful during office hours. Overall, class is easy if you are can put in the time to read the text book and submit all assignments.

He is very helpful and brings real life experiences
Interesting guy. Doesnt make it seem boring and is very reasonable. However, I asked him for help on a problem and he had no idea how to do it. Class is pretty straightforward
Don't take him for DS 71. He has no clue what he is talking about. But he's a really nice guy and trys really hard to help. he just doesn't know how.
don't take hime for Ds71, because he has no clue what is he doing! The teaching is awful!
He is a great guy who will stay up all night to answer your emails. Always try to point things out for everyones major. Very good guy, just put some effort and you will be fine.
He's a very nice teacher, a little boring but nice. He is also very helpful. He makes every effort to help his students. He ends class about twenty minutes early like every day too!! The work is pretty easy
This guy is ok. He is very compulsive (checking, walking certain ways). The subject matter is boring. Real world examples from his past are good. Some stuff is interesting but he is a terrible listener. I asked a question and he didn't respond to what I asked = what? He expects you to complete assignments over semester that are dumb for his own ben
Pretty good teacher. overall id recommend him.
Tries to help you in every way possible. Gives the exams a little curve. Explains material very well and presents it in a good fashion.
Don't buy the book, you won't need it. I got a 78% in his class w/o the book. Btw the class average on the final was 65%. That means either no one is learning the material or the way he presents the material is misleading. The projects, tests, and quizes are super easy. Attendence is not mandatory but about 20% of your grade. Show up to class imo.
He doesn't even lecture on the subject matter but expects you to attend class. The test material is straight from the text. Class is useless. He's a cool guy, but I wouldn't recommend him.
Great Professor. He expects you read and come with questions. Most clear explanations of theories in a math class I have ever had If you read you will do exlent you should get an A or B from way he teaches and the handout prep for each exam. Final hard but administered by the department not him or the professors. Could get A on final C here B>class
Run for the hills. if you expect him to teach you something don't, you are basically on your own in this class, i suggest make friends with your classmates b/c they'll explain it to you. His tests sucks but it's very helpful for the final
Lots of work. Quiz every weekend. Test all multiple choice. Fairly easy projects. Terms terms terms terms terms. Need to read the book to get good grade, and need a good memory too to remember all the terms terms terms.
The class is a lot of work (projects, quizzes, etc.). He is a pretty chill, nice guy and his lectures aren't that boring considering the topic. He wants you to attend class and in class assignments are worth about 8% of the grade. He takes FOREVER to grade assignments though.
He is a great teacher. Although attendance is not mandatory, it is wise to go to class everyday because he sometimes gives points just for showing up.
Great professor. Explains material very clearly & is always willing 2 help if u have questions. He explains the material 2 where it actually makes sense. You need the book becuz there are hw assignments but they arent hard. He gives a test review assignment b4 each test. DO IT! It helps! If u pay attention & actually make an effort, youll pass.
Robert is a good teacher, he explains things very well and although attendance isnt mandatory it helps to go because he assigns random in class assignments and gives points out. Great Teacher and I recommend him to anybody.
Class was OK. He will admit he isn't a math major yet is teaching a math class. Sometimes he has problems explaining things. His practice tests are helpful for all midterms but not for the final. I had an A going into the final but ended up with a B because the department write the final not him. Good guy just study hard for the final.
His DS 71 class was pretty easy. You don't have to show up, but sometimes you get surprise in-class assignments, whether it be a problem or just showing up. He is really nice and a good teacher. If you miss class, the book explains what you missed.
He's cool! I would take him again. I kinda taught myself out of the book for the 1st couple chaps, but if you need help- he is ALWAYS there. (He just may not know how to help you.) I know others say that he can't teach his course, but he's done it for a few semesters now- so he's better now. Class is review of stats&prob and algebra; DO study guide
Very easy class as far as math goes. I was bored most of the time because I already knew the material. Goulart does an good job of explaining stuff and answers any questions students have. The weekly homework is very short and easy. Do the homework and attend every class, because he will sometimes give free points for attendance.
Starts out rough but material gets easier. Read the book and you'll ace the class. I took him for lab as well and he looks into how you're doing and will pass you accordingly.
Goulart is a good teacher, but the material is pretty hard. I had to study for hours for each test and I ended up with an A on the final, but only because i studied my butt off. It is easy if you try your best and study and attend lectures. Goulart is a really nice teacher! And the lab is SUPER easy.
Goulart is one of my favorite professors on the CSB faculty. He's a really nice guy and tries hard to make sure everyone does well in the class. Had him for 52L and I had him for DS 71 in Fall 09 and got A's in both courses. I definitely recommend him for any class he teaches in the CSB!
Professor Goulart is a really really good teacher. He is really concerned with his students success and is always willing to help. HW helps your grade a lot so make sure you do it
He is really organized, well prepared and knowledgable about the topic he is teaching, highly recommended for any one who wants to take DS71 or any classes with him. Just make sure to do his study guides and homework, as it helps you prep throughout the whole course. Very nice, and explains homework, always helpful and a great teacher
He's a great professor, you just have to study a lot. I MEAN A LOT~ if you want to pass, but hes nice.. gave out extra credit. Not the meanest professor, is willing to help you on anything and LAB is easy if you know what youre doing...
He is very organized and helpful. Class was not mandatory but gave out extra credit on some days attended. Do the study guides! They help leading up to the final. Nice guy and always smiling!
Great professor and really nice guy. Each exam is on 6 chapters. Thought it was going to be overwhelming, but his exam questions are very straight forward - no tricks. Study the book and powerpoint slides. He's a very considerate professor - understands how much everyone has going on (he's always swamped also). Don't take anyone else for IS130.
Good professor. Lectures by powerpoint and uses clickers for attendance. Subject matter is EASY, but don't get lazy on the tests. Make flashcards for all those minute details. Makes class entertaining. I recommend taking the lab at the same time even though you don't have to.
he knows what he's teaching. his class was interesting but could get boring. exams are pretty tough, a lot of abbreviations. try not to miss class cause he does some class participation stuff that will come in handy towards the end. :)
his lecture is pretty straight forward, but the lab is ridiculous.
I will just say do no take him , he was late for the exam for 20 minutes the class was leaving he came and still made us take the test horrible teacher doesn't explain the subject very well don't take him
Super nice! You can email him with any questions about HW at any time and he'll help you. Class material is pretty easy, and he explains it well. Overall good. Tests weren't bad at all, and the study guides really help.
Goulart is a very approachable and helpful person. His lectures are short and really simplify the material. The textbook is necessary to do the homework. Keep the units organized, complete the practice exams, and use the online Bb tools and this class should be straightforward. Study for the final though. Highly Recommended!
The lectures are clear and short. We were released early almost every day. Do the homework and attend the study lab and you'll do well. You earn the grade in this class.
I had Goulart for DS 71, and he runs his IS 52 classes very differently (probably due to size). Still a nice guy though. Lectures are full-class, but you NEED to read the textbook to get a higher grade. The book is interesting if not somewhat brutal. Clicker points = important, so show up and don't fall asleep. HW isn't often, but DO it. GL! ^^
Robert Goulart is a great instructor and a very good person. His lectures are clear, concise, and interesting. Attendance is not mandatory, but there is always a chance of getting in-class easy extra points, especially on Fri's. He responses on e-mails promptly even on weekends. He does everything for a student to succeed. Highly recommended!
(P/F) IS 52 lab is not mandatory to attend unless it's an exam day. 3 projects and 3 exams on MS Excel, Word, and either Access or PPT (depends on your major). The training program is horrid but it does help you prepare for the exams which you NEED to pass (questions are very similar). Don't do projects last minute, and you should be fine. GL ^^
Very good teacher! I managed to stay focused throughout the entire lecture and actually enjoyed everything I was listening to! Highly recommended!
Super easy class I think I only showed up to take the tests and I still got a b+
Although he is somewhat a good teacher, he wasn't always clear. He gave you practice exams, but when it came time to actually take the test, majority of the questions weren't on there and he used alot of lessons we didn't even go OVER!!!
He's such a caring professor! He's always willing to help and will make sure you understand what he is lecturing. His midterms were like the study guides so you know exactly what to expect. I definitely recommend his course.
I had him for DS 71. He admits he is a computer guy and Math is not his first subject. It shows a little as he probably is not the BEST when it comes to DS but nobody will be more understanding and reasonable. Probably the nicest and hardest working professor I have ever had. Genuinely cares about his students. Grades are uploaded almost daily
Class is pretty easy, however, you will need to go to lectures. It's a math class so you need to know the stuffs. Prof. Goulart is a great teacher. He knows how to teach math even though he's not much of a math guy. You have online quizzes and homework every week. But you can them in late with no penalties. You will need the text book.
I really enjoyed having Goulart for DS71. As a person who has no patience for any kind of math and having this be my second time around taking DS71, Goulart made it click for me. He did lots of examples on the white board, assigned small amounts of homework- just enough to give you some practice and help to remember the material for the exam.
He is clear and makes math seem not that difficult. Sometimes, he won't go over the lessons because it's all in the textbook, but he gives a lot of examples and he spends the first few minutes of class to help students understand math problems. Homework problems are from the textbook. So, you will need the text to complete the homework.
While I passed his lab it was very tough! The homework assignments and trainings are very boring and long. Decent guy but doesn't really help the students in the class and you have to teach yourself. Wish this class wasn't required but oh well. Glad it's over.
Easy class, just like stats in hs. You need the book to get the hw questions
He uses test that are on the web, so basically if you were to study those you will pass his class. (Easy to locate use an quiz question, and paste it in google) You will see an source that keeps poping up when answering the quiz questions.
He knows what he is talking about when it comes to lecture. Class consists of 4 midterm exams. The lowest score exam will get replace by the final exam score if you score higher. The exams are based off of the textbook and lectures. Needs to know every word definition when it comes to the exam and apply it.
Goulart has interesting lectures and is always smiling. Really helpful in providing study guides. Just FYI, Fall 2016 will have a newer, different textbook to be current on technology. Don't forget to bring your iClicker to class and make sure to do weekly quizzes! Goulart's grading is clear and the class was not hard at all. Just don't slack off.
Attendance is only mandatory until you get all 50 iclicker points. Reading quiz every week, but you dont really need the book. He provides powerpoints that come straight from the book so save the $100+. Theres like 2 easy homework assignments. Tests are basically knowing all terms and acronyms.
Doesn't help you much. A lot of Homework questions. Little paranoid when it comes to testing. Makes you leave all your stuff in front of the class and looks at the whole class like we are cheating. Has like 3 different test versions. Theirs several homework questions and online quizzes you need to take. Like math? Take him. Nice guy though.
He is pretty decent. I like his voice much better than Martinez. Robert guest lectured my class and I kinda wish I would have taken him instead. But I do have him for lab. He is great with what I have experience.
Best professor ever, very easy going. Lectures aren't boring and class is easy.
Awesome guy, easy going. Do your work and pass the class. Not much work to do just a lot of reading.
Lecture: Super nice. Approachable. Read your book & study his lecture notes to be prepared for the exam. Need a clicker for attendance and participation points. If your final exam is > than any of your past exams, he will change your past exam grade. Lab: Practice practice the weekly trainings. Attendance is only mandatory on exam days.
He's a great prof. Knows his material and teaches well. Gives a lot of info but it will help you pass the test. Test are a little bit hard if you're not into technological stuff. Make sure to read the book, look at his powerpoint and you'll pass.
I underestimated this class. 1st test was too easy, but they get harder as the semester progresses. I did not dedicate enough time to studying because I thought the class was so easy and it cost me my A by 1.35%. He gives out study guides, DO THEM. Uses iClicker for every class for 7 pts each class. Do the extra credit, its not much but it helps.
I really enjoy my time as a student in his class. He is so respectful and clearly knows a lot in his subject. Take his class you won't regret it.
Straight forward grading and gives you a week to do homework
Beware there is a lot of reading!!! Just read the chapters and go to class and you will be fine. The exams are a mix of his lectures and the textbook, the exams are usually heavy! There are 4 exams and a few homework projects.
Easy class and great, fun, nice professor
Easy and great professor. Definitely would take him again. He is also very helpful.
Weekly quizzes, couple multiple choice exams, iclicker, and homework projects. Sounds like a lot but it's not hard, definitely attend lectures and read the book before exams. Nice guy who tries to help out when he can.
Lots of homework and weekly quizzes to check how your doing but easy class. He explains everything clear.
Weekly quizzes, iClicker points, 3 tests, 3 homework assignments, and extra credit! Not a hard class at all, but read the book and make flashcards before each test because majority of it is vocabulary. Awesome professor and not a hard class at all. Would definitely recommend
Robert is a very nice professor! He offers opportunities for iClicker point and the hw assignments are short and easy. 3 midterms and the final, he drops the lowest score. The lectures are pretty interesting and he tries to relate them to things going on in the world.
Amazing professor. Highly recommend for people that are not good with math. Really passionate about teaching. You can tell from his personality and attitude on the first day you walk in. Quizzes online and homework every week; For example, homework is assigned on Monday and due the following Monday. Overall an amazing professor. I highly respect.
Professor Goulart was really nice and truly cares about his students. He understands the lab can be tedious for some students and gave makeups for hw. The final is makeups for any test you didnt pass. Just do all of the trainings and you should be fine on the tests.
Professor Goulart is amazing. Very easy class, as long as you study and pay attention. If you understand the material you will pass. He assigns homework at the beginning of the week (Monday) and has you turn it in the following Monday. All the homework comes from the textbook. Exams can get tough, but he does give study guides.
Robert is a very kind professor. However, I feel like this course is extremely time consuming and tedious. I also feel. that study guides are very time consuming and overwhelming. As a Liberal Studies Major I did not see the point in having to take this course.
This class was kind of hard there was sooo much information which is not his fault at all, but when studying for the test he gives a study guide but there is way to much information on there. but if you have to take the class then you have to take it. sorry this was probably no help.
When a student needs help on a question, he will only solve the first part of the equation and expects the student to finish the rest. When students would ask him to finish the equation, he would make an annoyed face.
Was one of the easiest classes Ive taken so far. As long as you understood math to a basic level in high school you should be fine. Plus there is a lot of homework and review materials PLUS tons of tutoring. He also has a lot of office hours so if you put in the effort you should be fine.
Professor Goulart's lectures are never dull. Tests are a bit heavy so make sure to study with alot of time ahead. Everything in the class is very straightfoward , and he takes time to understand his students. Most assignements are online , so make sure to read the text required for the class for the weekly quizzes.
Professor Goulart is a really sweet guy who definitely cares about his students. The lectures can get pretty boring, but you have to go to get clicker points. The tests are literally all vocab, so if you make flashcards for all of the words you will definitely pass!!
He's really sweet and helpful when it comes to computer troubles. He never fails to smile! You only need to come during the exams, but I don't recommend not showing up. It's helpful getting your homework done during these labs, especially when you're a MAC user who doesn't have access to a Windows computer. All of these classes are Windows based.
Really nice professor, don't know how he manages to talk the entire time. Lectures are easy to follow, organized class, few hmw assgts - really easy. Tests are difficult unless you do the study guides (really long, lots of vocab). You will learn new things, honestly nothing really bad to say about him.
He is an awesome professor! He cares a lot and is willing to help anytime! He was also my DS71 professor and did great too! For IS52 there is a textbook but no need to purchase it because he goes over everything in class and he puts it all on powerpoints. Since the class is long I recommend to focus.
The work was not bad, you just really have to know what your doing and learn the criteria and you'll be fine. Make sure to watch the lectures they're very helpful for the homework.
Professor Goulart does require you to do work for this class. There's weekly lectures w. quizzes on the lectures, weekly homework, along with midterms (A LOT of definitions) and a final. Just do the work on time, pay attention, take notes, do the study guide and you'll pass :)
Best math professor. he made topics I struggled with in HIgh School very clear. You have 4 tests plus a final, and homework and quizzes to check progress every week. would recommend him as a Professor.
Really great professor! Really good about breaking down each math problem. Homework and quizzes aren't actually due until the end of the year. He doesn't post his lectures, so you need to go to class to pass.
(Basically the class is learning how to use word, excel, etc.) You don't go to class, unless for test. The homework is online and it SUCKS! Its long and the program doesn't work lol. Tests are kinda scary cause the program just doesn't work sometimes. However, just do the work and you'll be fine. I passed no problem. (4 exams and no final).
Attendance is mandatory, you will use an iClicker to get participation points. Weekly assignment consists of a Helpdesk and Reading Quiz. There are 3 exams plus a final. These exams are on the terms from each chapter, pretty easy as long as you study, I used Quizlet and received 90s on every exam. The lowest score is dropped and replaced by final.
The class material is not bad, it is just the tests. The study guide is useless as it is on every single term, normally 400 plus over 4 chapters, but the test is only 50 questions. The homework is all on a quizlet. He is not mean or unhelpful, but the class material is outdated. It was a waste of money and a waste of time.
Goulart is a pretty good guy, he involves the class and tries to keep the math interesting. He wants students to do well, and encourages visiting during his office hours.
he is super nice and is very passionate about what he is teaching. his stories are interesting, and it is so cute how much he loves his wife. Clicker points (max 50 earned but offers 70 points). the study guides are long and strenuous, but the test is made up of only definitions. drops your lowest exam score. no letter grade- pass or fail system
The lectures were so long and I wanted to go to sleep by the last 30 minutes but he covers most of the important information that is in the textbook. Reading the textbook is so important to pass this class. You need to learn all the words and study to memorize them because that's what the midterms consisted of. (3 midterms and 1 Final). He was nice
took Ds71 and IS52 with professor goulart. As long as you pay attention he is well at explaining.
This course is lecture heavy. Prepare to study and put in effort to pass. As long as you do the weekly hw and study for exams, you will be fine. Professor Goulart is very nice and he is always willing to answer any questions. He tries to make class interesting, but trust me it's just two hours of slides and information.
took this proffesor for DS71 and IS52 he is the best at explaining and teaching in an easy to understand way.
Had him for DS71, IS52 and IS52 Lab this semester. Nice guy and really easy courses all around which could be good or bad depending on what you're looking to get out of them, but they're lower level courses so I get it.
This is a tough class if you don't read the textbook. Professor Goulart will help during office hours, but a lot of self-study is necessary outside of lectures. Super informative class, but be ready to take a lot of notes during lectures. Tests are weighted heavily--check out his study guides and ensure you understand the terms.
............
2nd time taking this course cause I procrastinated all of the assignments till the very end which also led me to fail the exams & homework projects cause I wasn't doing the trainings. Overall, super easy course. Attendance isn't mandatory unless there's an exam. I had a diff prof the 1st time but I took him for the lecture & he's pretty chill.
Hes a good teacher. Lots of studying needs to be done. 3 midterms, and a final. He'll take points off on your 2 lowest scores for each assignment category. Have to do lots of reading outside of class. Have to watch for I-clicker points each class. be sure to not slack off on the help desks and the timed quizes. Hes very knowlegeable.
Robert is a great guy and a pretty solid professor, homework every week 4 midterm exams, 50 questions final, and a paper portfolio assignment. Lectures are pretty boring sometimes his explanations make no sense, this was my second time taking this class would probably take him again if i failed though.
This class isn't bad, he uses iclickers for attendence and has 7 questions each lecture, weekly assignments and quizzes that are pretty easy, 3 50 question midterm exams, and a 100 question final. Overall pretty easy class if you get everything done
Class only meets a handful of times, everything is online you only meet in person on exam days, the lab isn't hard, trainings every week followed with a homework project and an exam a couple weeks after. You NEED to get 70% or higher on EVERYTHING or else you'll fail the class. There are makeups for homework projects trainings and up to 2 exams.
Homework is all online and there are practice quizzes + actual quiz. Practice quizzes have unlimited tries and the actual quizzes have 3 tries. I was failing because I didn't do well on exams but my homework was all 100-80% as well as quizzes. He's a very chill professor and I'd definitely the class again if I failed.
Read the textbook. His lectures are great, but they don't cover all the material. I never once read the textbook and ended up with a B, so do whatever you want. There are three midterms and one final. Every week, a quiz and online lab activity are due. Buy iClicker for class participation and attendance. Overall, it was an easy class.
This class is very much heavy lecturing and a lot of reading. My recommendation is to read the chapters and take lots of notes during lectures.
This course requires significant self-study, but Prof. Goulart is quite helpful during office hours. Definitely read the textbook and use tools like Quizlet and unstuckstudy to prepare for the exams. The material can be dry but it's an informative class.
This class is super easy as long as you keep up with assigned readings. Make sure to study for the midterms! The lectures can be long, but they are very informative. Attendance is not mandatory, but he does give points in class with questions over the lectures using iclicker.
He is very nice, sweet and chill. He is a good lecturer in my opinion. He doesn't take attendance but the lectures do help you understand the material from the textbook. Homework is online, and exams are in-person. Definitely study for the exams, and he will hold exam workshops before exams to help you out and give you review questions.
nice person and amazing teacher. around 3 tests + final. lectures were good, would cover important stuff from textbook. Homework/quizzes every week.
