His 8:50 am classhe's a bit unclear in his lectures and kind of lazy to help students during lecture, but if you take his class at 1:20 or later, he seems to put more effort into teaching the material and helping out students during lecture. (his lecture class size isn't like normal lecture sizes, it's substantially smaller but not classroom size)
He is so good. He helps students a lot and he has office hours every single day. His tests are not hard and he is genius. He is my professor for math 221. I highly recommend him.
Grizzard is interesting. I have his earliest lectures and his thoughts always seem a bit scattered, and I can't help but notice that he seems somewhat uneasy or uncomfortable. He's a little awkward to talk to, but very willing to help. If you can get past his largely confusing lectures and his overuse of the words "um" and "anyways" you'll do fine.
His lectures can get annoying at times because his mind seems to jump from one thing to another and he is very awkward. The lectures can get confusing because of his awkwardness and fumbling of words. Other than that, he is very helpful and will try to help any student he can. I would recommend him. He says "I mean" "I don't know" and "um" a alot.
Dr. G's lecturing isn't always the most clear and he is really awkward, (be prepared for a lot of: um, but anyways..., you know... etc.) but he does well enough. He is very helpful, and makes you think. He gives helpful hints on what to do. The group projects felt a little pointless. Take him if you can with the five lecture a week format for 221.
If you want a challenge, take this class. He will make you work for the problems and practically beg for help. Taught myself everything from youtube videos because going to class was pointless.
I was expecting a lot worse considering that I have heard horror stories about calculus. His teaching skills improved a lot throughout the course of the semester. He continually makes the class improve. I hope you like group projects, because he gives a lot of those.
He knows what he is talking about, however he makes the students rely on themselves for the majority of the course. He does not really lecture or put up too many examples. Instead, he basically hands out problems and expects the class to do it together. His tests are fair as long as you put in the effort to learn the material. Office hours helpful
Super nice guy and is pretty good at explaining math. I had him for 221 and he grew on me throughout the semester. Wish I could get him for 222 too :(
Dr. Grizzard is quite goofy and awkward, but in a good way. He sometimes fumbles his words, but he always gets the point across. Overall a very good teacher and I enjoyed the class.
Fall of 2014 was Dr. Grizzard's first semester here, and based on the first day, I didn't think it was going to be pretty, but he did A LOT to improve and listened to what us students wanted. Lectures are pretty dry and not always the clearest content-wise, but he does well to keep your attention. I found his office hours to be helpful.
The class was really enjoyable. He definitely wants you to succeed and learn the material, and is really helpful if you take to initiative to ask for help. Tests are pretty straight forward but do the homework! It helps a lot.
I took him for 221 this past fall and he was one of my favorite professors. By far the best 221 teacher at Madison. The 5 lecture a week style with smaller settings was a great help. He is very open to questions and helping students. Only drawback is he gives group projects for math which doesnt really make sense to me
Very good teacher, made math seem fun
Forces you to understand the material. He teaches the foundation, you are required to build on it. Friendly and genuine.
Love his cat tattoo!
He was my favorite teacher this semester. He is goofy, awkward, and truly cared about each and every person's success. He knew us all by name (a lecture of over 60 people). Made calculus interesting and gave straightforward and fair tests. He would always set aside 2 points on the tests for us to draw a picture (a bunny, snowman, and badger)!!!
He is kind and respectful. Gets to know every student by name which is cool to see. Office hours are very beneficial but dont expect him to just show you how to do the problem. He will guide you along and make you think for yourself to solve the problem, which is helpful for tests. Favorite professor I had. Also had Hansen-Econ and Sibert-Chem
Grizzard started off the semester a little rough because this was his 1st semester. He really improved throughout the semester and was one of my favorite professors! He is a little awkward at times but it's kind of funny. There are 3 group projects given throughout the semester which are kind of pointless, but Grizzard himself is a good professor.
It was his first time teaching the class, and at first you could tell he struggled. His biggest downfall is he doesn't give enough examples. At Madison though he is probably the best teacher for calculus 221. He is kind and cares about student's success. If you show him you want to do well, he will help you succeed.
Grizzard is a great professor. The class is hard and it takes a little bit to adjust to his teaching style. The tests are hard, but he gives you a lot of practice problems. He is very helpful in office hours which I realllllllly suggest you go too.
Robert Grizzard was very amusing. He was awkward, but he made the class humorous while conductive to learning. His office hours were extremely useful, and it is important that you to go to them at some point. Grizzard was very friendly, his exams were fair, and pretty much everyone liked him. The group projects were sort of weird, but that's minor.
He really is an awesome guy, his lectures started off being very unhelpful but it got a lot better as the semester went on. If you want help, he will help you and he is very clear and very good at explaining things in smaller groups1 on 1.
He was a wonderful lecturer. This is one professor that you should go and talk to outside of class because it will help you tremendously.
He really tries so hard to be a good teacher he just falls short of that goal.
He was new and had difficulties when he started out, but as the class went on he got better.
Professor Grizzard was great! I had Linear Algebra at 7:45am, yet it was enjoyable (although I kinda like math in the first place) and made sense, despite the hour of morning. He's helpful, good at explaining things, and makes sure you really understand the concepts he teaches.
FAVORITE PROFESSOR EVER. Prof Grizzard was awesome. He's really good in lecture about explaining things so they make sense and writing things down on the board. His office hours are super helpful, and he genuinely wants to make sure you understand the concepts. Tests are very fair. Seriously, take his class.
Great professor. He is definitely inexperienced but his unusual style of teaching makes his classes very easy and enjoyable. Plenty of problems in class means that homework becomes very easy to do. Very friendly and helps out a lot. Would definitely take his class again. Textbook is needed just for homework and it is available online too.
Profesor Grizzard was a bit of a mystery at first, especially with the way he teaches (involves students by giving problems to work on.. vs normal lecture). Yet, after the first exam I've come to realize there is a reason he makes you critically think during lecture. I did very well on the first exam, however I spent a LOT of time in office hours.
Awesome professor for math. Feels like a fresh blow of air in the monotonous styles of teaching in college. His teaching style inflicts a lot of pain on the students, but I guess that is what bring out the best out of me and helps me ace his tests(which are not tough at all if you do the homework and the class problems seriously and diligently).
I love this guy. He's hilarious although a tad awkward at times. Lecture is surprisingly not boring and understandable. Also, he has tattoo of a cat which is pretty neat.
He's a pretty great professor. At first, I was very skeptical. His teaching method may seem odd but it works. Plus, he's super awkward which makes the class slightly funny and enjoyable. He honestly wants all of his students to succeed and he's the type of professor who likes to challenge his students. Tough grader but fair
He is an awful teacher, his hand writing is horrendous you cannot read the board. When you ask him a question he answers with another question. The worksheets you are given do not have the same difficulty of problems as the test. If you email him with a question you most likely will have to send the same email four more times.
It's a lot of independent learning so be ready to teach yourself. He is always available for questions and replies to emails very quickly.
I really enjoyed his class style-- he had class every day that was a little bit of lecture and then getting actual practice by working on a worksheet. He could sometimes be a bit hard to follow when answering specific questions, but generally, I was able to understand most everything. Overall, he's a cool guy and an effective teacher.
If you didn't take calc in high school (like myself) I would highly recommend this lecture. You meet 5 days a week in a smaller class so you can ask questions. Gizzard's teaching style is frustrating at first but if you really put in the work you will truly understand the material. Learned more from this class than any other class I've taken at UW.
Grizzard's a pretty cool dude. At first his lecture style is a bit frustrating, but by the end of the class, every concept that's brought up you clearly understand. Compared with the other 221's the 5 day a week structure, allows for a more intimate setting with more help. Grizzard's class wasn't the easiest but was incredibly worthwhile.
Professor Grizzard was my favorite professor this semester and made Math 221 very enjoyable, despite the difficulty of the class. He is an interesting guy whose unorthodox teaching style made me think about math much more critically than I have before. Go to office hours often, work through problems! If given the opportunity, take this class.
Professor Grizzard was one of the most enjoyable professors I have had in my college career. His style of teaching made me really think and work for my grade, which allowed me to delve much more deeply in the subject matter. Go to his office hours often; he is so willing to help! I would definitely take a class with him again.
Gizzard really cared about his students and wanted everyone to perform well. You definitely have to put in work and do all the worksheets, but the tests are never too surprising and the previous exams really help a lot in studying. He was very easy to learn from and I highly recommend him. The final was the one exam that was very difficult for me.
He wants to help the students yet his train of thoughts often detour the wrong way that his explanation confuses me. Lectures mostly him explaining concepts 20% and worksheets 80%, I'd say. I believe his lecture wasnt helpful, or crucial, for the tests since I self-studied the materials during the class. Group prjs sorta pointless but fair grading.
Great professor
By far the most disorganized professor I've had. He's very nice and if you go to his office hours, he's all too excited to help you: he's just not good at it. He's brilliant, but he kinda speaks math and not usual English. He's very confusing and I got way more sense out of his TA person than him. I got a 5 on the AP test, but only a B in the class
Grizzard really knows what he's talking about and super willing to help, if you ask for it. He's pretty funny, if you like awkward humor, but super super dry and a little monotonous. HOWEVER: there are NO discussions. Trust me, you'll be glad. Also important to note, he doesn't put anything up online, so if you skip, you better already know calc.
Prof. Grizzard is a great guy. He super quirky and funny, but his class is more of an independent learning style (e.g. he answers your questions with more questions to make you think). If you put in enough effort to understand WHY you're doing everything, this class will be doable.
Dr. Grizzard was a really funny guy. I liked his teaching style but he was not very clear about what would be on his tests. Usually the test questions were much harder than the quiz or practice problems.
Dr. Grizzard sets up his lectures differently than other professors. Instead of having lecture/discussion, you have 5 lectures a week with him at each one with a class of about 80 students. He lectures the first part of class and then gives you a worksheet for the rest of class. The worksheets are good for practice problems to practice before exams
Prof Grizzard was a true gem who sometimes accidentally gave solid life advice in math terms. "You have to balance your life" -Prof Grizzard
Grizzard is a great professor. I was initially worried by his alternative lecture style, but found it to be much more productive (at least for me) as the semester continued. Every day we either start with a short lecture and move into work time on worksheets he'll hand out or go straight to work time. Weekly homework/quizzes, manageable exams.
Good overall person. Really nice and caring if you go to office hours. The set up of the class is more like a standard high school class with more problem solving in class. Kinda nerdy (as any Doctorate in Math) but funny. Great person with a cool cat tattoo that you should look for.
Great math teacher that truly wants his students to understand the material. His office hours are super helpful and a great way to get the homework done. Class is either hum lecturing or everyone working on a worksheet. The exams weren't too hard if you understood the homework and worksheets. I learned a ton
Amazing Professor
Overall very nice professor
He is a horrific teacher and does not help during class. He is terrible at explaining things, especially to students who don't understand everything right away. I would not recommend him to anyone
This guy was great. He had great office hour times and was big on teaching us through participation. We did a lot of problems in class. It was awesome. I came in to Calc. 1 not knowing much but left a master.
Very confusing and sporadic. Terrible professor. He has no idea what he is doing when he comes to class. Do not take this professor. None of those other reviews are accurate. He is very unorganized and very unprepared for lecture. Worst professor I have had in my 3 years at Madison.
This professor is easy to understand and cares that students understand the theorems used to solve problems. Overall he is a comprehensive lecturer, and smart guy--if you take good notes, do the homework and pay attention you should be good.
Lots of tangents
I think Bobby was a very good professor. He has a different way of lecturing that some people might not like but he is always willing to help and answer a question
Bobby was very unorganized and always seemed to show up to lectures unprepared. His methods of presenting these notes were very ineffective since his handwriting was very hard to read. Sometimes he would even present us with incorrect information that our TAs would have to correct the next day. The class is doable if you're willing to put in work.
Bobby is a nice guy, but this class is terribly organized. We had homework due at midnight the day before the final. It seems like they expect you to fail, so he doesn't teach for the A. Honestly, you might be able to teach yourself this class better than they can. From what I've heard he's better than the other profs so good luck champ.
Grizz can loose his train of thought a bit during lectures which can be a bit of a downside, but I felt he did a very good job of explaining where things are derived from. There was practically no memorization in this class due to in depth explanation of the theory of the topics. I recommend using textbook and all other resources. Class is tough.
You absolutely have to attend lecture to do well, and although it seems unorganized at first, looking back at notes you realize how well Bobby teaches. He's funny and caring and gives you every opportunity to do well, even if the class is hard work. I recommend sitting in the front to hear him best and be able to read his handwriting.
Bobby is the best math professor I've had in college. He places a heavy emphasis on working on practice problems during class and he logically builds up one topic from the next. I've had him for calc 2 and linear algebra, I wish I could have him for every math class. Phenomenal professor
I've taken four math classes at UW and Grizzard is definitely the best professor I've had in the department. Teaches in a way so that topics are constantly building off the previous ones, and emphasizes understanding things conceptually and practicing the arithmetic. My only complaint is the class was somewhat disorganized and inconsistent.
After taking a different math professor on campus, I really have grown to have a strong appreciation for Bobby. He gives lots of examples, has good discussion worksheets and makes himself available. Bobby is super approachable and makes himself available to the students. He teaches through examples but gives lots of review material and practice.
Bobby Grizzard is the absolute worst professor Ive ever had. He just babbles for the whole lecture where we are supposed to be learning and then throws difficult problems at us that he expects us to know how to do (when we have never learned them). If you have him, get ready to teach yourself everything because he doesnt teach well AT ALL.
He's really boring and awkward and if you haven't taken calculus before you will probably have a very hard time.
A good professor for 221 when he doesn't start shushing people every 5 minutes. Math is hard and wasn't for me, and classes and discussion sections were generally helpful.
The class is very disorganized, especially online. We have weekly "exams" and the grading scale for that is terrible, basically ensuring the whole class gets a bad grade. Sometimes the lecture videos for the topics on the exam are not even posted until the day or two before we have to take it. I have emailed Bobby multiple times and no response
Super nice
Bobby is a really nice professor. Although he does upload videos late sometimes, I could see that he's really trying. His grading criteria is very straightforward. He is also lenient. I really respect Bobby.
I'm so glad I had Bobby for calc this semester. He would post video lectures for you to take notes on, and then during the synchronous lectures would allow students to ask questions about the homework. He did post some videos late, however, but would always extend the deadline for homework if that was the case. Videos included cameos from his cat!
I loved having Bobby for Calc II! He tried hard to make online classes fun, literally had a beach themed background just for online class, posted videos for lectures to watch whenever and then during actual lecture time he would answer any questions you had. He was sometimes behind in posting but always extended deadlines. My fav prof so far! :)
I have to give Bobby some slack because these lectures were videos for us to watch on our own time, but they were far more timely than the 1 hour and 15 minutes class times are supposed to be for lectures. You jump right in, so if you're a little rusty on 221 stuff then get studying. Really fun guy, I loved seeing Muffins in his videos and on calls
Bobby was a real gem. While he wasn't always responsive outside of class, I think this can be attributed to what this semester was. Bobby clearly explained the topics covered in each unit and I felt that he adequately prepared you for each test. While the online format of this class made things more difficult, I would strongly recommend Bobby.
Bobby is a great guy but I did not vibe with his teaching in the slightest. After the 3rd week I never went to another lecture or watched a lesson video. I found them to be a waste of time. He very briefly teaches topics and gives you the bare minimum. If you want to pass this class, watch "Professor Leonard" on youtube. Only reason I got an A.
Professor Grizzard was unorganized and often posted lecture videos behind schedule. However, he acknowledged this and was understanding with assignments and gave extensions when needed. I found the posted lecture videos unhelpful and relied mostly on the book for notes. Bobby really cared for his students and wanted us to succeed.
Seems like I had a very different experience than a lot of these reviews. Bobby is hands down the best math teacher I have ever had. I do agree that he was behind at times, however his videos were incredibly clear and I liked the fact that we could ask questions as lectures. My advice is GO TO OFFICE HOURS. IMO, take your math courses with Bobby!!
He was good at teaching, but was very unorgaized and often didn't have the lectures posted before the assignement was due. This might be because of online class but reguardless is was difficult at times.
Bobby is a great professor. He's incredibly kind and friendly with his students, very clear in his lecturing, and is always accessible. He assigns HW problems that are just difficult enough to challenge you but not overly daunting, and likewise his exams can be challenging but certainly not unfair. Overall, he is an excellent professor!
Bobby is an excellent professor. He's really friendly and easily accessible. His lectures are engaging and easy to follow if you're comfortable with proofs. His homework assignments are reasonably challenging and reinforce the material covered in lectures well. His quizzes and exams are also very fair with generous grading.
Bobby is an ok professor. He's very unorganized (doesn't post HW, shows up late, etc.), but the way he teaches makes you a better mathematician. Material is hard but doable. Every exam I did slightly better than the last (not sure if I was grasping the material or if Bobby was being a generous grader lol). Nice guy, got a B even though I struggled.
Bobby was my first math professor and surely was one of the best. He was interactive and fun to have as a professor in lecture. Also, always open to new ideas and input. Glad to have taken a class with this guy.
Puts smiley faces instead of X and Y, he tries but fails at teaching.
He is extremely disorganized and sporadic in lecture while using extremely complicated examples and deep-diving into unimportant topics instead of teaching material that is on the exams. I have a great TA and already took the class in high school so I still did alright, but I still would not recommend him in the slightest.
Horrible teacher, super unorganized and his teaching methods are so confusing for no reason. If you never took calc in high school I am begging you to not have Robert as your professor.
Bobby was a really nice guy but a horrible math teacher. He takes the entire class to go over 1-2 questions that most of the time aren't even relevant. I basically had to teach myself everything. If you didn't take calc in high school, you won't be ready because they expect you to know it. The tests are way harder than any of the practice.
I'm sure that he's a very smart person but some people aren't meant to be teachers... I took Calc in HS and he found a way to confuse me even on the topics I already knew. At the beginning of the semester I was attending every lecture but that got me nowhere and I'm trying to learn the topics by myself. Exams are very hard. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
dont take this class. just dont. he's unorganized, overcomplicates simple things and talks about things that arent even on the exam. i cannot stress this enough: i taught myself this ENTIRE class. kids stopped going to lectures halfway through the semester because his class is so pointless. its awful. worst teacher ive ever had in my whole life.
Bobby was an interesting professor. If you took calc in high school and did well, you will be able to do well and enjoy his class, if not, do not take him. He focuses on little details a lot of the time and you will find yourself learning the material in your own time. Lectures were interesting and a really nice guy, but not the best teacher.
lectures are really confusing, tends to jump between problems and draws arrows excessively. Not at all able to reach this man outside of class. really doesn't care to give out extra help
Bobby often delved into non-test-related content in lectures to explain why things were the ways they were, rather than mostly explaining how they're applicable. Although he is a nice guy, Bobby is slow in explanations and leaves most of the learning to be done outside of class. Even if you've taken calc before, it's still hard to get an A.
Lectures were disorganized and board work was optically messy. Bobby is an intelligent individual; however, his method of teaching (vague proofs and chaotic inductive reasoning) caused me to heavily rely on my TA to learn concepts. Profound effort was made outside of class, but I felt that my grade did not accurately reflect my end understanding.
Bobby is a nice enough guy, which I assume is the sole reason why his rating is currently as high as a 3.8 because it's not due to his teaching. During lectures, he goes off on tangents about irrelevant information or spends the whole period on 2 problems. So, be prepared to learn everything on your own even if you took AP calc in high school.
Bobby taught primarily on whether or not you took AP Calc in high school. If you did you were in good luck, if you didn't you were kinda screwed. Prior knowledge was the only way i passed this class
Tests were about 85% of the final grade, so if you didn't do well you didn't pass. Bobby is very confusing during lectures and goes off on tangents a lot. The only good thing was that he recorded the lectures so you didn't have to go to class in person, although sometimes he took more than a week to upload them.
I couldn't give him a 0 so I gave him a 1. People who had already taken calc found it extremely confusing too, personally, he made it way more confusing than he was supposed to and went off on tangents almost immediately. I would recommend Prof Leonard videos on youtube they teach better. Respectfully, don't take him if you don't have to.
Overall just a frustrating class to be in. He definitely knows the material, but is not very good at presenting it. Going to lecture feels consistently like a waste of time. Haven't taken calc? Prepare to be taught from YouTube.
The worst professor I have ever had. Lectures are abysmal. The only reason I did well in this class is because I already learned all of the content in high school. My TA would correct what he said in the lecture because it was wrong. Every lecture he sat criss-cross-apple-sauce like a toddler and streamed his Ipad to the projector.
I liked/understood Bobby well when I took Math221. However, I think one of the reasons I did well in his class was bc I took BC Calc in high school so I already had a background in calculus. I recommend him for those who also took calculus in high school, but I do not recommend him for those who are taking calc 1 for the first time.
hes not bad but not good. hes funny but I wasn't able to learn much in lecture because the way he explained things were very confusing, i learned more from TA.
Bobby is a decent guy, and lectures aren't awful, but he's all over the place. I didn't take calc in high school while 90% of my class had, so he catered to those who had already learned it. Also promised a curve at the end, but it didn't help unless you have less than a C (AB was a 89%). If you haven't taken calc before, maybe find another prof.
This professor is probably the worst professor you can get who teaches Math 222. You're better off not going to lectures and watching Khan Academy videos online. I went to 3 lectures throughout the semester and stopped going after how useless his lectures are.
All over the place - lectures not super helpful which sucks for a class this hard. Brian Lawrence is much better, he subbed for two days and suddenly everything became much clearer - so much so that the class literally gave him a round of applause. Sorry if you get him
He was a very funny lecturer as far as math lectures go. He was clear with what he taught but did go on tangents often. Would take again.
Bobby seems like a great guy. That being said, I cannot recommend this course with him less. He has very little concept of how to be an effective lecturer. He goes on tangents, doesn't often prepare correctly, etc. The lectures I understood the most were the ones on concepts I already knew or when we had a sub. Wouldn't recommend.
Often, Bobby can make it difficult to understand because he can get quite scattered while teaching when he doesn't come prepared. But when he is, he's a beast who who teaches us concepts without needing to really rely on the formula and truly understand the meaning behind us making certain calculations. He is extremely helpful in his office hours.
He's a great guy and super approachable outside of class (and extremely helpful). Math 222 is an inherently difficult class, but he still does a great job teaching it. He may be a bit disorganised sometimes but he's still one of the best professors I've ever had. He's hilarious too.
Bobby is clearly knowledgeable and tries his best to convey the concepts to us in a way that we can understand. Sometimes he can be all over the place and difficult to understand, but overall not bad. He likes to derive equations and give intuition, making it easier to understand the topics.
Bobby is a great soul (loves TayTay). Lectures weren't the best but were fun! (helps w/morale in 222). His love for the subject shows in post-lecture doubts. Behind his tangent-filled, informative lectures, is a smart person who loves Math. He develops intuition to solve problems - he does 2/3 examples per lec but your understanding will be deeper.
Of the professors teaching at the time, there were Grizzard, Lawrence, and Wu. Of what I had heard, I would try to get Lawrence if you can. Was able to learn in Grizzard but Lawrence is just better (he subbed in for a couple lectures and did great). Also if you do get Grizzard don't stress. I learned the most in discussions not lectures.
Bobby is an OK math professor. He bring good vibes to the class and has a great personality. However, he comes unprepared to the lectures, which are all over the place and difficult to understand. Ended up skipping them. Class is test-heavy but pretty fairly graded and curved if needed. Discussions are incredibly helpful, go and do the practices.
Bobby did the best he could with juggling assigning TAs and lecturing. He was usually unprepared and did not explain how they did in the book. I have taken AP calc BC and some things I already knew how to do, he made me confused on. I had a choice between Bobby and Lawrence and let's just say I made the wrong choice.
He skimmed over many topics and rambled his way through the lecture
Grizzard is a notoriously awful math professor that many UW freshmen, unfortunately, have to experience. His lectures are either extremely basic, unrelated, or beyond the scope of the course. Compounding this, Grizzard's exams tend to be brutal and he does not believe in curving (which is why he has some of the lowest GPAs ever for 221). Beware.
Again, Grizzard is infamous for being a terrible math professor with extremely trying exams. He currently holds the vested award of the lowest average GPA semester of ALL TIME at UW for MATH 222. If that doesn't tell you to avoid this man, I don't know what will.
It isn't that he is a bad teacher, per se, but he does have quirks. For one, he shushes the lecture hall at least five times per lecture, which is, to be frank, demeaning. He also has a very interesting laugh and half smile that he maintains the entire lecture, and everything sounds like it is a joke (not that these are necessarily bad things).
This course was my first calculus class after pre-calc in high school, and the class was so fast-paced and hardly explained that many students who took and passed the calc exams had to attend office hours to understand the material. Bobby was a good and funny person, but I put in extra time and effort for this class, and it never seemed to pay off.
Bobby is very funny and the lectures can be enjoyable, but you are not going to learn anything. I relied on my discussion and my TA to learn everything. I wouldn't bother going to lecture, because he is unprepared and will spend most of the class talking about one problem in a disorganized way that makes no sense.
Whenever he advocates to self learn some topics. He really means it. This is either because he does not know how to explain it or overcomplicates it. I eventually was able to learn on my own for the second half of the semester because learning his way was quite a stress. Wish I would've done this sooner for a better grade.
Bobby is a nice guy! With that being said, if you're not interested in math, don't take him. A lot of the time in lecture is spent explaining why rather than how. This can be rather frustrating if you're not a math major or are looking for a quick answer. Proceed with caution.
Bobby is fun and often enough, energetic. He definitely has a passion for math. He goes on for a VERY long time on definitions and why the concepts work. I personally did not share this same passion so I found the lectures not as helpful as some. This extra attention on noncourse material often leads to us being behind the other professors' class.
I liked Bobby! I already took calc in high school so I didn't have to pay attention much. My critiques are that he makes some simple topics very confusing with his explanations. Also, he likes to use smiley faces and stars as variables, which I never understood why. Overall, a very good experience!
Says a whole lot of nothing in lectures. Don't bother going if you can get by on the textbook (which is what you'll be doing anyway). Funny, but don't take his class. He WILL NOT TEACH YOU!!
Lecture is just him yapping
Took 221 and 222 with him. Will say, 222 is better if youre taking him than 221, as he was more invested in 222. he always records lectures so I just watch it on my own. in lectures, he's really scattered but when watching it at 1.5 i focus a lot better. hes funny, goes through 3 examples but dis/office hrs makes up for the lectures.
Bobby cannot stay on track. He goes off on tangents all the time and in my 1:15 long lectures we would only get about 3-5 question done. He uses no equations and expects you to understand what he is talking about when he gives no information on the topic to start.
The exams are nothing like the posted reviews. The final exam had a type of question that was on none of the previous exams. The exams also seem like they are created to trick people and create low scores.
Lectures were unhelpful as Bobby doesn't teach topics very well and continuously goes off on tangents. Nice guy but don't pick him as your lecturer unless you practically already know calc 2.
You can tell that Robert is a very talented mathematician. Although he is not a good teacher at all. He's a poor orator with a very disorganized and tangent heavy style of lecturing. I effectively taught myself this course with internet recourses that aren't provided by him. His answer keys are wrong and the TAs he selects are also sub-par.
The lectures were not useful. I learnt e
Doesn't respond to emails when you have an issue and doesn't care for his students. Would leave me on delivered on Microsoft teams 3 times this semester when I had an extenuating circumstance.
The lectures were absolutely useless with the professor going on random tangents and practically had to teach myself. The TA's selected were also subpar with some asking students to stay longer to help them explain to their next class what a solution to the discussion worksheet was.
He seems somewhat disorganized and can ramble. If you have a phobia of filler words during speeches, he's not your man.
Awful, disorganized, and clueless, and lectures will confuse you more than help you. Only reason I didn't get a D was because I stopped going to his lectures and taught myself.
Lectures can be scattered, but the professor's humor helps. Watching recordings at 1.5x and using unstuckstudy for study prep made the class manageable. Textbook is essential - don't expect to learn everything in class.
I like doing RMP for good and bad experience, Robert Grizzard is the worst experience I've ever had at UW-Madison. Infuriating is how I felt taking this class. Content is difficult but Robert makes it more difficult. He is super serious some days and other days tries to crack jokes. If he wanted to do stand up, he should go to state street.
Truly one of the worst professors ever. Rambles during lecture and does not explain anything. He spends most of his time just doing problems. Went to his office hours and was still unable to help me and give me advice on studying for his exams.
The professor tailors the course to students who have taken calculus in high school and expects having previous knowledge going into lectures and discussions. It was fast-paced, and the TAs were also not helpful and wouldn't show the work/provide answers to questions on the discussion sheet. There is no curve when exam scores were not high.
