I hate Physics, and Dr. Gross made me love it!! He has so many resources (class notes, online lectures...etc)You really didn't have to go to class that much, but as long as you keep up with the homework and do decent on the quizzes you'll be fine. Just study, he goes over similar test questions the day before, if you don't pass, its your own fault!

Put a lot of time into teaching, cares that the students learn, and the tests are fair. Highly recommended.
Dr. Gross, is a little dry, but he knows his material. Made class seem like he had to be there like we did. He relied a little to heavily on the textbook for my taste. Class not difficult, but the material was, and he didn't help things much!
Dr. Gross teaches a difficult class and does his best. His grading policy is great. Just stick out the class and do hw and study for exams and you'll be fine.
The class is boring to begin with. The class in general isnt hard, but I suggest that you do show up to class and pay attention. Do all the HW and study hard for the tests.
The glass is very boring.. but that was expected, its physics. He grading style is very good and gives you plety of time to makeup things you don't understand at first. Go to every class, do all the Homework, study for the final, and you will do better than you think.
Most boring teacher I've ever had. After passing out during the 1st class, I decided not go again. I told myself that I would rather eat dog __ than listen to another lecture of his. Get the answers to the tests from somebody, he does hand out 95% of the answers to each test. Show up for tests and stay away from this guy, he'll give you narcolepsy.
A little dry, but explains the subject matter well. Posting of notes and video is great. Do the homework, go to class, study for tests and you should do well.
Dr Gross is a very intelligent teacher. He is decent and never enquires about student's personal life which has become a hobby nowadays. His tests are very precise and completely reflect materials taught and his online power point presentations of the course material is not only extremely helpful but makes subject matter very interseting.
This was a distance learning course. This professor did not prepare for class at all. Videos were inaudible. Lectures never posted as announced. Tests or quizzes were to be given with a week notice. This did not happen. Ask a question you get a question back. I have taken many online courses and this was by far the worst.
I took the distance learning version of this class. Frequent technical issues in the lectures (mostly audio) and a schedule that Robert never followed equalled a difficult class experience. However, in the end he made up for it by allowing extra credit and many forgiving grade policies. Still it felt like he made it up as he went along...
Very straightforward teacher. He posted lecture notes and video for every class online, so that was very helpful. Very liberal grading policy.
one of the best teachers i've ever had. if you appreciate the resources that he gives you, and all the help that he offers youll be succesful. he has a fair grading policy he cares about his students
Dr. Gross does everything he can to help his students. He provides an extremely fair grading policy, notes and videos posted online, review sessions, and the possibility of extra credit on homework and quizzes. Take him for physics if you can. Take the online homework and quizzes seriously (they help!!) and study in a group and you'll do well!! :)
Great physics teacher, this is my second time taking phy2 and he made it so much easier to understand. I recommend taking him.His examples in class reflect the material on tests.I rarely used the book. You do have homework and quizzes weekly, but they help out alot.
Awesome professor! After failing every exam my first time taking Physics II with a different professor(despite studying heavily and otherwise being an A student), I retook the course with Dr. Gross and made an A. He's interested in making sure physics is understandable to his students, and is very approachable. I wish I took him for Physics I.
Drink some coffee before class b/c this guy's kinda boring. It's a hard class and the online HW is a good indicator of how the tests will be (HARD!). His handwriting is awful so it's hard to read his notes when he posts them. You're better off going to class than getting the info from Blackboard, that way you can maybe understand what he wrote
Online quizzes and homework are the best study tools for this class. Tests can be hard to finish in time if you don't practice. I can't sit through his lecture, but he posts a video of it online which is very helpful. Practice and you shouldn't have any problems, he's also very helpful and understanding if you talk to him in person. don't email
Great professor--gives you all the tools for an A. Its physics--you have to do the homework problems and quizzes over and over again to understand whats going on coceptually. Its not the easiest subject but he is very helpful and gives lots of extra credit. DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK BOOK--NEVER OPENED IT--BUY PHYSICS FOR DUMMIES THAT HELPED ME.
I could not sit through his class, but he posts written notes (and lecture) online. Quizzes and homework really helped me learn the material. Offers lots of extra credit and is very helpful and reasonable if you talk to him in person, wouldn't suggest emailing.
Good teacher, makes him self available for extra help. Speak up in class if you want him to know who you are. Remember it is physics so expect to do work and realize not everyone is going to comprehend it.
He puts his notes online and in video form!:)DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK
no textbook! make sure to do ALL the online homework. he gives you three attempts for each assignment so make sure to get a 100% on every homework because it boosts your grade alot! online quizes are easy too so make sure to do well on them. easy to get an A because he gives so many extra points.
AWESOME PROFESSOR! I never thought I would understand physics, but now not only do I understand it but I actually like physics!
The BEST!!!!!! Take him!!!!!
Attendance isnt mandatory, and posts ALL notes online via video and pdf. Speaks monotone. The homework and quizzes can be VERY hard and confusing to do, off of what he teaches, GO TO SI! you have to go if you want to do good in the class. Test are hard also, but passable with studying. Remember the EXACT way he solves a problem for tests problems
he's amazing and pretty cute too :)
Definitely recommend him.
So I got an A in the class and the final was optional, which no one is recommended to take. His homeworks and quiz are very difficult so I would recommend doing it with a group and that WILL help you out on the Exam. He post his lectures on blackboard, which is very helpful. The class is mostly repetition an practice. He also gives E.C. Good Luck.
WORST PROFFESOR EVER! VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND. NOT CLEAR!...THE HOMEWORK IS NOT RELEVANT TO WHAT HE TEACHES..HE PUTS VERY EASY EXAMPLES IN ORDER TO TEACH THE CLASS BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE HW AND QUIZZES IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THING! DO NOT RECOMEND! HE DOESNT ANSWER TO STUDENTS QUESTIONS HE GETS CONFUSED A LOT!
do not recomend
So terrible if your not a genius at math. Quizzes are terrible. homeworks are impossible but if you go to SI you pretty much get the answers. going to class doesnt help. his notes are nothing like the exams. TAKE WILLIE
This class is terrible if you're not a genius at math. The quizzes are impossible to complete in the time given. The homeworks are a night mare but if you go to SI you pretty much get the answers. The notes are different than the tests. TAKE WILLIE INSTEAD!!!!
Awful... HW is really hard and can take hours to do if you want to get a good grade. No textbook which makes it hard to study and the notes don't help for test. Test are really hard. I suggest taking Willy.
Good professor. He posts all lectures online in PDF form and video. Homework and quiz solutions are also posted online. Homework is hard, but make the tests a lot easier.
Great Professor. Clear and easy to understand. Willing to help during office hours and after class. Homework is hard but really prepares you for the test. Quizes are fairly easy. All notes posted online. Recomend.
Homework is very hard but I suggest you do it with a group(trust me it's so much better). He's boring and not very helpful but his class is not that hard to pass. Just study and do as many practice problems and understand the concepts.
Very good professor. Very clear and explains everything. Very clear with. Grades
Tests were fair with no surprise material. Homework extremely hard and time consuming. The no textbook part was actually good. They aren't necessary to learn physics.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! I WOULD WITHOUT A DOUBT TAKE HIM!!! HE IS BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSOR'S I HAVE EVER EVER! IT IS PRETTY FUNNY THAT HE THINKS BEES AND BIRDS ARE ATTACKING HIM WHEN HE IS TEACHER...HAHA...WITH THAT BEING SAID - HE IS VERY HOT!!!! I WOULD LOVE TO GO OUT ON A DATE WITH HIM! BUT IT WOULD BE UNPROFESSIONAL.
professor gross is the best!! i love his class and learned so much!! hes so nice. theres a lot of work but it can be done and there is always resources to help- office hours or SI sessions. i'm going to miss him!!!
Dr.Gross is very easier to understand. the material is hard but he explains it well. The Homework and quizzes are easy with a study group so people should work together on those things. Attendance is optional because he posted all his lectures, hw and quiz solutions online. but it may help you focus if you go to class
Gives extra credit. Practice and DO THE HW. I studied for tests 4-5 hrs/test. Got an A. Everything on slides. Attendance is mandatory but every once in a while he will take attendance (I took during Summer)
wonderful professor, attendance is important, and do all your home- work it is part of your grade.
Explains physics really well, very understandable...He makes physics fun and has a cute laugh ;)
I took College Physics 1 (and currently 2) with him. If you attend his lectures and review sessions, and do the homework and quizzes, you are guaranteed an A. He gives plenty of extra credit (up to 10 pts on hw, 5 on quizzes, 12 on exams, and an extra credit quiz). Warning: The homework can be difficult, but it prepares you for the exams. Take him!
Had for physics 1 & 2. He is a good professor and really wants his students to succeed. His weekly homework assignments can be killer, most weeks I spent a minimum of 4 hours working on it (but they helped prepare me for his tests). He bolsters all assignments with extra credit so there's no reason why you shouldn't pull off a decent grade.
I took College physics 1 & 2 with him and it was great. He posts everything online and gives you all of the tools to pass. He gives extreme extra credit. My advice is do the homework and quizzes in groups. That will save you if you don't do well on the exams. I enjoyed going to class and he gets to know you if you do. fyi he's a little arrogant.
i had his class and got an A IN IT.
He's kind of endearingly awkward when he lectures, but generally explains things well. The HW can be VERY time-consuming, don't wait until the last minute. Homework and quizzes prepare you very well for the tests. He had video explanations to some HW problems the semester I took him. Gives you the tools to succeed, you just have to use them!
Cool guy, makes the lectures fun. I took over the summer and it went by fast. Very easy class, but like everyone says, homework takes a while.
Posts all lectures online so you don't need to attend, and if you simply get an a on the final you get an a for the class. Helpful professor.
Great professor. He explains everything very clearly gives plenty of examples. He has online homework that is mandatory but it helps boots your gpa. His test arent as hard as the hwk but not as easy as the studd in class.
Took him for physics 2. One of the best professors I've had. Posted video lectures, notes, and slides online, so you don't need to drive to campus. Online homework is very hard, but not worth a lot and if you do well on it you will do well in the class, and online quizzes prepare you for the tests. Very logical and concise professor. Take him.
Facts: Records lectures and uploads them to Blackboard. Notes are also uploaded to Blackboard. Equation sheet provided during the exam. He assigns quizzes and homework almost every other week. See his T.A. for homework help. Attendance is not required. No book is required for this class. Rumor is that Wille is the less difficult out of the two.
Dr. Gross is an awesome professor! I had him from college physics 1&2. He posts all of his lectures online. Only time it's mandatory to come to class is to take an exam. The only hard part about this class is the homework he assigns on blackboard but you have 3 attempts and a week to do it. Watch his reviews, & he'll walk you straight through it.
I'm taking class now and doing fairly well. I actually want to take regular physics now because I think you can learn a lot of good things from it and it can make you smarter. HW is time consuming but it makes you think and prepares you for the test. I recommend him.
if you don't pass this class with an A++++, i don't know what to tell you, perhaps you should rethink your science career. all the HW was given as extra credit towards tests, and they were easy, 2 attempts, also materials were very condensed!
This guy is absolutely incredible. His intelligence is through the roof. I will admit that he can talk softly sometimes. Suck it up. You will not only learn the principles of physics in this class, but your life will change for the better.
Very clear, gives you all the tools you need to get an A. Posts lectures on youtube. Shows you exactly how to do the homework. Quizzes are easy versions of the homework. Difficulty of tests is in between. Basically, watch his lectures on youtube, take notes, and you'll get an A.
Great professor! I would defiantly advise taking his class
Professor. Gross is an amazing teacher. He makes physics understandable. He makes concepts easy, and gives so much extra credit to help. If you put in the work, you're grade will show. Dr. Gross is one of the best teachers that FAU has to offer. He even records his lectures, and post them online. He is very professional, and organized. Take him.
Best physics prof at FAU. Records lectures and puts them online, which is amazing. Explains concepts very clearly and doesn't over-complicate things. He focuses on how to do the problems you will see on the exam. Lectures are kind of boring but you will definitely learn physics with Dr. Gross. Highly recommend him.
If you don't ace this class, you didn't even try. He gives so many opportunities for extra credit, full notes are posted online, and he doesn't even make you waste cash on a book. The grammar in his slides is atrocious, but I like his attitude of not sympathizing with the girls who talked through every lecture & then complained about their grades.
Professor Gross is a wonderful professor. He posts lectures online, attendance is not mandatory, but he explains physics very well and offers plenty of reviews and help outside the classroom. You have to work for your grade, but it wasn't that hard to get an A. Thanks to him I really love physics and understand it!
All his lectures are posted online, as well as power points. Homework is tough, but watch the review session as you do the homework and it'll be easy. Test are similar to quizzes. Class has lots of built in extra credit (in homework, test, and quizzes).
The best professor for Physics. The material can be difficult but his lectures are very thorough and he does a great job explaining tough concepts. Do all homework and quiz to maximize your overall performance.
There are some professors whose teaching methods push students to do their best and earn credits they deserve. Professor Gross is one of those. He is an amazing physics professor. He would take extra time to help students learn materials well and give extra credits to improve their grades. His power points and lectures are very thorough. Take him.
Not the best speaker, but does review sessions for homework and quizzes where he goes step -by-step over the problems. Lots of grade buffers. Tests are easy if you do the homework and study the problems. He posts all of the lecturesPowerPointreview sessions on YouTube. Really you'll only fail if you do absolutely nothing
Took him for Physics 1 and 2 -- my favorite professor by far. Posts all his lectures, homework help, and test reviews to YouTube, which makes it easy to keep up and watch back whenever you need to. Homework is tedious but doable. Quizzes are tricky but great practice for tests. Love his explanations and teaching method. Would absolutely take again
I had him for physics 1 and 2. He posts all his lectures and solutions to quizzes and homework online. When he says that the homework is the hardest and the quizzes the easiest: it's the truth with the tests somewhere in-between. Watch the homework reviews before you do it- complete time saver! There is no textbook.
Here's the thing with gross: you want an A? You better be willing to work for it. You'll most definitely learn physics. Is it going to be easy? No way. Hw problems are challenging, and time consuming. But he's super helpful and wants everyone to do well. Did bad on a lot of my tests and still passed. Not impossible to get an A, just requires work.
Truly is a great professor and does everything he can to help you pass the class! Seriously he's the man. He posts lectures on YouTube, has extra review sessions, & helps you with homework too. His homework, quizzes & tests are real. You must study & put actual effort into the class to do well. That being said, take him especially if you're pre-med
Professor Gross is one of the best professors I've had at FAU, considering FAU doesn't have many good instructors. He is so helpful and wants everyone to pass, he give you opportunities. You have to put in the effort to learn the material and he give you all the tools, it's up to you. He makes the material understandable for you, TAKE HIM!!!
Here's the rundown: Gross posts all lectures and PowerPoints on Blackboard for students to study with, making attendance not mandatory. However, Gross' class is quite demanding and will require much study time. He doesn't give a medium to practice problems with, and the homework is extremely difficult. Do not take this with demanding classes.
Great Professor. records all his lectures and puts them on YouTube which is very convenient. HW/quizzes are given on a weekly basis so this class is not for slackers. Although there is a lot of work required he gives you all the tools you need to pass. I had an A and slacked off the last two weeks, which brought my grade down to B, stay focused!
You better be willing to work for your grade. Don't miss any homeworks or quizzes, they will help in the end. HW problems are challenging, and time consuming. Exams are very challenging. He's very helpful, sweet, and wants you to do well. Practice concepts! I studied 10-20hrs per week and didn't pass. I definitely will study harder next time.
Absolutely the BEST professor you will EVER have! You can watch each class at home prior to the lecture. You don't have to attend class. Everything is posted online. Always available to meet if you have any questions. He goes out of his way to provide review sessions prior to EACH test. He is extremely organized as well. I'm prepared for the MCAT!
I got a B in the class. He posts his lectures and powerpoint slides online. Although attendance isnt mandatory going to class helps because sometimes he'll say things in class that isnt recorded in the lecture. There is a lot of work but going to SI helps. Homework and quizzes are on blackboard and you get 3 chances for the hw. Great professor
He provides everything you need to pass with minimal effort if you just do a little every week (couple hours total with hw and quiz). Hw questions are the hardest, then quizzes, and tests are the most basic. He goes through the hw so you just plug in your numbers and you're done. Highly recommend for college physics. Wouldn't take lab if you can.
Dr. Gross is the most organized professor I've ever had. No need to go to class AS LONG AS YOU WATCH HIS YOUTUBE LECTURE VIDEOS. Gives HW and Quizzes every week. Tests are 12 multiple choice and 2 response questions. This class is very doable but you NEED to work for your grade, cannot slack.
Dr. Gross helps you out so much between recording his lectures, holding homework and exam reviews, and including extra credit into basically everything. He clearly explains the information. It isn't an easy A, but is completely doable if you put in the time and effort. All the information he covers will be on the MCAT if you are pre-med.
This was a great course. Dr. Gross gave very thorough lectures and truly did everything he could to help the students understand the material. He gave us plenty of material and was extremely organized. We always knew what to expect on his quizzes and lectures. His quizzes were extremely challenging but the exams were doable.
Very organized I liked that very much about this class. He records everything which is great so going to class is optional. This class was hard in my opinion but from what I have heard from other people who took physics with calculus, this guy is somewhat easy. Took the 6 week summer course. Lots of extra credit which really helped me out.
Took him over the summer, and was amazing. I would not have tried to do physics in 6 weeks with anyone else
One of he best professors I've ever had! He has a way to make you understand physics! Physics is not an easy subject, but if you watch all the lectures, attend his review sessions, study his notes, do the homework (many times) then you will get an A. I feel ready for the physics portion of the MCAT! Highly recommend him!!!
Physics is difficult but Gross tries not to make it difficult....I guess. No textbook (which is good). He records his lectures so if you happen to miss class that day you can watch what you missed. homework is difficult but quizzes and test aren't too bad. Usually the test draw from the quizzes and the lectures so STUDY THEM COMPLETELY.
Such a great prof! Took him for physics 1 and 2. Got an A in both of them because i watched every single lecture and took my own notes from home. watch his review videos on how to do the homework and the quizzes are based off of the notes from lecture and homework. 4 exams and optional final. if you study notes and quizzes you will pass each test!
He posts everything online from the lectures and the notes taken during the lectures to the homework and quiz solutions. He also provides extra problems with video solutions to those as well. Everything is online except for the exams, which are multiple choice. I love this man.
VERY fair professor. Posts every lecture online and is very straight forward with his expectations. Very organized on Canvas so that you can find exactly what you need. Homework is more challenging than the tests or quizzes but he has extra review sessions (which he also posts) to guide you through the HW. Always there to help during office hours.
He is a really great teacher with a sense of humor. He gives many examples to make sure you understand all of the concepts and has review sessions for the homework and tests. All of his lectures are video recorded and posted online so you attending class is optional.
Professor Gross is a really good lecturer and a very caring teacher. He really does everything to make sure that you do well in the class even though the homeworks are so darn hard. And even then, he has review sessions BEFORE the homework is due and also posts them before the homework is due. He gives lots of extra credit that's already built in.
Although his homework can be challenging he offers so much support to help you through it. Quizzes are reasonable and are a fair judgement of how the exams will be. He does not take attendance and posts his lecture videos on youtube which is a plus since I took the class at night! So much extra credit!
THE BEST physics professor. Physics and I truly are not friends and I 100% couldnt have done It with anyone else. Yes, you have to work for your grade. He offers tons of extra credit and is very accessible outside of class for help. Really wants his students to learn and at least somewhat enjoy physics.
It's been three years since I've taken Physics II with him and I still think he is the best professor I've had. I don't know where he developed his teaching style but he needs to teach other professors how to be like him. He definitely needs an award or something for the amount of time and effort he puts into teaching.
Stay away, this class he gives s lot of homework and quiz, attendance is not mandatory, however the quiz and hw is only 40 percent , you can get A s in all the hw and quiz and still fail, I stayed up all night studying to pass the test, went to si and tutoring and still fail yes fail the class. Stay away
Physics is my enemy but he makes it manageable. He has a very unique way of teaching and I love it. Attendance is never mandatory and all lectures, notes, homework help, and more are posted online. This means the class is really what you make it. It is a lot of work but if you use what he provides you with and study the material you WILL pass.
I love this man. He puts all his lecutres on Youtube so you dont have to go to class. It helped me a lot. A lot of homework and quiz (almost everyweek) but exams are much easier. A lot of extra credits as well. He is super smart and knows what he is teaching. (And cute!) Go with him for physics, you will learn tons.
Best professor for physics! He makes a difficult subject so easy that anyone can understand. You must work for your grade. Homework is hard but he has a review session where he walks you through it. Quizzes are easier than homework. Tests are fair and comparable to quizzes. Extra credit is built in to everything. All lectures are posted online.
This class is a lot of work. Homework and a quiz almost every week, and by the exam date, hes already done 3 or 4 other lectures on material for the next exam. Very easy to fall behind. Posts reviews for the homework and the tests, though the test reviews arent great. Tests are easier than the HW and quizzes. Records the lecture and posts online
He doesn't require attendance since he posts all the lectures online which is great. The homework are really long but helpful and they provide extra credit. Same thing with the quizzes. IMO the quizzes really help in preparing for the tests. They are very similar. They are multiple choice plus written response. Make sure you do well on test 1.
For 2053 and 2054. Great professor!! Made Physics easy and enjoyable to learn! Homeworks are really tough but he holds review sessions before they're due to sort of understand the problems. Quizzes are good gauges of test difficulty and he posts tons of review. As long as you just go over the material he posts, you'll get at minimum a B every test
The homework is remotely difficult, where as the quizzes are a lot easier. Seems like a nice guy, but the tests can be confusing due with material that was covered. Changes it up with other tests, made one test a lot harder with material not exactly covered. Most student were not able to finish. Think about this class if you want to put in the work
Gives lots of extra credit and does plenty of examples to help. Tests are based on lecture notes.
I really think this professor is writing his own review. His class is so hard and time consuming. I studied my butt off and failed the class, the two other professor that teaches physic is a lot more reasonable. Stay away from Dr Gross
Dr. Gross is actually one of the best professors I've ever encountered. This class is ridiculously easy so if you just need physics for a requirement this is perfect for you but I took it to learn as I plan to take the MCAT. His lectures are AMAZING and he explains all of the concepts (some of which are more abstract) so well. 12/10 recommend him!
All lectures are posted online including reviews for homeworks, quizzes and tests. Professor explains everything and has very organized modules. The grading is weird but overall very easy class.
Test is written, not my style . Good luck taken him.
He must be writing his own reviews. I am taking him for Physics 1 and he is zooming through the course. Half way through the semester and he is on the last test material. We are only graded on quizzes and tests with the HW being extra credit. Needless to say, he is blatant with his students telling them to withdraw if they have a 70% average.
RUN AWAY! He zooms through the material, test 2 is impossible and he purposely makes the final even more impossible because he doesnt want anyone to take it he kept encouraging us to drop out because you can clearly see he was so annoyed with us he clearly didnt want to teach, maybe he should make attendance Mandatory so he doesnt get upset
Make sure to watch his lectures, as he provides no textbook. He teaches by going through specific questions, which is difficult because I didn't really learn physics, just those questions. His tests are basically rehashes of his quizzes/HW. Take another professor if you want to learn physics. I only got an A- by watching his lectures 1.5x speed 3x.
Professor Gross was not the easiest professor to have for college physics. He creates his own homework, own quizzes, etc. You don't have a book or other source of practice besides his own material. Personally, it was hard for me to understand his lectures and it would make it more difficult when I couldn't use other sources to practice.
I have to say this professor is outstanding for physics. I am a transfer and had to retake college physics 2. Right now I have an A and am most likely going to finish with an A. He does not use a textbook but gives so many different resources such as videos, all lectures are recorded and very well explained, class is not mandatory.
if u are thinking of taking this class over the summer, DONT. he is very thorough in his lectures and gives lots of examples and extra hw., and his grading is actually pretty generous but bc its a summer course the material is rushed, and therefore u will have a quiz and test every week. if physics takes time for u to learn, take it full term
I took this course over the quarantine summer term and it is very very rushed. You will have a quiz and a test every week and have to teach yourself based off the lectures he uploads from PREVIOUS years. The quizzes are nothing like the lectures but the tests are easier. It makes sense after the quiz when he explains but its too late by that point
Took general physics in 6 weeks online without SI. It was a lot. But Gross was a solid teacher. He provided a lot of EC on exams and quizzes (which was every week). Tests were much easier than the quizzes, and it was weighted more. Watch his lectures and exam reviews and you will do fine. The only complaint is we should have had more live lectures
I had this professor for physics 1&2 , he is incredibly fair. His teaching is solid and I actually enjoyed learning physics. He challenges you with extra credit homework. However, the quizzes and exams are based off his lectures. His lectures are easily accessible, so there is no excuse. I wish more FAU professors were like him!!!
80% of the questions from the test are from the quiz, the remaining 20% are conceptual questions from the lecture. This is a 6 week class, a test and quiz every week with some HW. The professor was solid and provides a lot of resource to study from.
I don't know how he has a high rating. Honest review, he was not my favorite professor. All assignments are his own material, no textbook or any other outside resources. He's nice, but I didn't care for his teaching style. Also, he won't see you if you're below a C+. Take Willie or Hoitu if you wanna pass with an A.
I'm currently taking him online and it is awful. He doesn't lecture during our scheduled lecture time. He only answers questions during that time so you have to watch his pre-recorded videos before class. The homework is crazy difficult and his tests are worded so strangely I never know what he's asking for. Don't take him if you want to pass.
Probably one of my favorite professors to be honest. Homework is used for extra credits. He drops 2 quizzes and you have an optional final. All lectures are recorded. All hw is explained in class. You have to study to pass this class (and he will politely remind you if you fall behind.) Tests are easier then the quizzes. Quizzes are explained.
Dr. Gross is a very thorough and fair professor. The way he structures his class is kind of confusing but he's very clear throughout the semester about how to do well in the class and due dates. You definitely have to work for your grade and study in order to do well but his exams are not bad and he won't try to trick you. Extra credit helps a lot
Did not have a choice to pick another professor and he is not a good professor. Asked for extra help at the beginning of the semester and was not given any help. No tutors available. Homework is hard for only 2 points of ec. Attended live lectures, studied, rewatched his videos and could not learn from him. No resources to practice extra problems.
tests 90% of your grade. failed every quiz. do NOT take him during summer. great professor but so much studying!!! I had to spend every day doing practice problems. tests are either really easy or really hard (on lockdown). extra credit questions on tests. hw optional & no textbook. you won't pass if you don't listen to lecture:)))
90% tests 10% quiz if quiz average higher 20% quiz and 80% test. failed every quiz and still ended up with an A. so much extra credit throughout (at least 15 pts on each test and 28 pts on final). really rushed in learning physics but it was rly manageable to achieve an A.
Took him for the 6 week summer class. Take him if you need to pass because the way the class is structured it's almost impossible to fail. There are 5 tests and 5 quizzes. Lowest quiz grade gets dropped. No other graded material. Too much material to cover in 6 weeks, although he tries. I got an A but I didn't really retain any information.
Summer Term: Mr. Gross was able to present the material in a way that was fully comprehensive and easy to understand. His lectures were detailed, and he answered any and all questions the students had without making them feel bad for having a hard time understanding. plus: LOTS of extra credit.
I'm currently in one of his courses & regardless of the grade I receive, I know that whatever it ends up being was completely due to my efforts in the class. Dr. Gross provides all the resources to be successful it's ultimately just a matter of whether you utilize them or not. You can tell he genuinely wants you to succeed. I highly recommend him!
Good Professor I just think he forgets he was once a college student and that It can be stressful for some students and some can be forgetful of things so when a question is asked it seems like he is annoyed to answer it. I don't prefer his method of teaching after taking him but the fact that he uses the homework as extra credit is cool too
The homework questions are more difficult than exams, but he posts detailed lectures for them, so watch them and get the extra credit for the homework (I ended up with 110%). Watch his lectures, study with practice problems, and you'll do fine.
Im not sure why theres bad reviews of Dr. Gross because he is the best professor Ive had at FAU. I wish he taught every class that I need to take! His lectures are very easy to understand and the material was enjoyable to learn. I was terrified physics was going to be impossible for me but I ended with an A. If you put in the work you will pass.
If you can avoid taking Gross for College physics in general.... do yourself a favor and do so. I took him for College physics 1 when he did homework and quizzes and his class was still then somewhat manageable... In Physics 2 he stopped doing that and only made 4 exams throughout the semester, i went to all the lectures and studied. DONT TAKE !!!!
dr. gross used to be pretty good (i had him for physics 1 online) but something abt the transition from online back to person changed him and hes tougher than before. do all the practice problems from the lecture and the quizzes and you might manage a B on his very difficult exams, which he does not curve and there are no other assignments
Your grade is based on 4 exams, which are 14 questions. I failed the first 2 exams (below average), & passed the last 2 (over 100). In order to pass, PRACTICE PRACTICE all the quizzes & lecture problems, to the point that you don't have to look back to see how it's done. Know the basic concepts but doing the problems helps you along the way.
You need to study. No if or buts. Use the quizzes as supplemental info and practice everyday. Also dont forget to review because the concepts tend to pile up. Overall if he lets you uses the quizzes as practice and not for a grade youll do fine. Practice everyday and Review. DONT SKIP LECTURES.
Extra credit is baked into the exams. I watched the lecture recordings, took notes, and never went to class. Passed with an A because he explains things thoroughly. If you work best on your own you'll do great. Not super accessible but if you take advantage of all the videos in Canvas you won't need anything else.
Professor Gross only used exams for grading, but the tests are quite easy and are graded 120/100. I passed with an A despite getting a low C on my first exam. If you watch the lectures/material he provides and take the optional quizzes (which are similar to the exams and he provides step-by-step solutions for it), getting a good grade will be easy.
Took him for both physics 1 and 2. He kinda gave up when teaching physics 2. Randomly gave a test that was nothing like the previous 6 tests that we took for him. Most his tests are fair.
eh, there's better physics professors than him. Nice guy but very monotone and boring. Then again physics is always a drag to learn if u dont care. Keep practicing the practice problems he posts in order to do good in his class. He is very tech savy and attendance is not required. Lectures are recorded for u to watch and rewatch as u please.
4 exams plus the final. The final is nothing like the 4 exams throughout the semester. As a person who thoroughly studied the quizzes & homework, the exam material is still difficult. His voice is very monotone & boring. He does not curve. Just pay attention to his lectures.
The only thing graded in this class are 5 tests so if you don't do well on test I don't recommend. His lectures were very long and monotone so it was hard to focus, but he does upload the lectures online for you to rewatch. You need to study a lot to pass. He gives out homework problems and practice quizzes for tests that are not graded.
He has 5 tests and they are not that hard if you study. I have been to one lecture and it is boring, he keeps talking about the same thing over and over. However if you can study by yourself this is your class. I have never been to a lecture again and I have a B. He gives extra credit on tests, which helps a lot.
Super easy if you have any background in pre-calculus! Attendance is not mandatory but I went. The class is based on 5 tests with your lowest test grade only worth half of the points of the others. Each test has about 18 points of extra credit built-in, which allowed me to skip out on taking the final exam and end with an A! Great professor!
I LOVE this professor! Grades are based off of 4 tests and the final which is optional. Every test has extra credit built in so you have the chance to get around 117/100. To get an A in the class, you only need a 287/400 (each test is 100 points) which is really a C. Anyone who fails is honestly just stupid or didn't study enough.
The class only consisted of 4 exams and an optional final - attendance isn't mandatory, he records lectures and posts them later - gives a lot of homework and quizzes but they're only to practice and not graded - I did struggle but you do have room to get extra credit on exams (up to 117) - Very thorough explanations for lectures, hw, and quizzes!
Best phy prof you could ever ask for! Lectures uploaded on YouTube, plenty of practice before exam, do all the quizzes! His lectures are monotone. if you get an A for exam 1,2, and 3, you can skip exam 4 AND the final!!!! tests are your ONLY grades
Great professor! Lectures are very clear and easy to follow. Posts tons of examples for practice in addition to the quizzes and homework.
Watch lectures, understand how to do all of the quiz probs, use mini quizzes for conceptual questions, re-do quizzes, test yourself & you will see your hard work pay off. The HW can be helpful but they aren't for a grade & not representative of actual test q's. His material is really all you need to succeed. Extra credit on exams super helpful.
Professor Gross was very nice. His lectures are not mandatory however, they do help to attend. All test information is based off of homework and quiz questions posted on canvas. Take this class.
Dr. Gross is a great professor. This was an accelerated course, so if you're not readily available for lectures/ aren't staying on pace with the notes posted on Canvas, you will fall behind. Although there is homework & quizzes, those aren't graded, only the 4 exams (5 if you want a better grade) are graded. Physics is challenging, so be ready.
Professor Gross is one of the best professors at FAU. He speaks clearly unlike most professors, does not grade homework, and is clear on the grading scale with extra credit. If you do the practice quizzes he posts and read the lecture notes until you understand them fully, you will receive an A in this class.
Great professor, you'll have enough material to practice. Each test has extra credit questions. He goes over practice exams. Be aware that you will not pass if you do not study. The tests are a reflection of the homework.
Dr. Gross gives you everything that you need to pass his class. His PowerPoints will help you understand the central concepts and the quizzes solidify your knowledge. The homework is nothing like his exams, the quizzes are all you need to pass. He does incorporate extra credit into his exams. If you put effort and study, you will pass.
Overall, a really good professor. I took him for physics 1 and he explained things very well. He offers lots of resources for us to pass (recorded lectures)(homeworks and quizzes which are not taken as a grade but are really good practice). I barely paid attention in class and only studied the day of exams & passed, I didn't have to take the final.
Such a good professor! The course can seem really intimidating at first, but the more time and work you put in, the better you will do. He gives so many example problems that help tremendously to study for the tests and, as a professor, is super understanding too.
This is my second semester with Dr. Gross and he is by far the best physics professor. He provides you with all the material you need to pass his class with an A. The course grade consists of 4 exams which have 18 points of ec built into them. You definitely need to put in some effort like any other class, but definitely take him!!!
I took Dr Gross for physics 1 and 2 and he's the best. Your grade is based on four tests and if you do well enough on the first three, you don't need to take the fourth test. He's super chill, no book, and he records lectures and said we don't need to go to class. This is helpful because I can study at my own pace. Dr Gross was great
Professor Gross is a solid choice for physics. While his lectures can be dull, the class is straightforward if you utilize the practice tests and Unstuck ai for study prep.
THE GOAT of the FAU physics department. Took him over the summer and he records all lectures. Absolutely amazing time would take again.
Professor Gross is great. He records his lectures so attendance is not mandatory. Your total grade is an average of 4 exams (if you have an A after taking the first three tests, then you don't necessarily have to take the 4th one) The final is cumulative but it's optional. STUDY the examples, reviews, quizzes, and homework for practice. MAINLY HW!
GROSS IS MY KING. BEAUTIFUL LECTURE RECORDING. boring lecturer sometimes, but he teaches well. his grading scale light asl so you dont have to take test 4 or final if you do well. No hw but there is rec. hw and practices quizzes you should do cause tests are hard. HE IS SO WELL ORGANIZED AND GIVES SO MUCH EXTRA HELPFUL RESOURCES. GROSS YOU DA MAN.
Prof Gross is the ABSOLUTE BEST. Definitely take his class if you struggle with physics or have no experience, because he will explain everything and super clearly too. Attendance is not required, but watch all the lectures and do the optional quizzes and you'll do good on the tests. Prof Gross manages to make physics actually comprehensive.
Took him Summer A. First week or so he was a bit confusing but once you get used to his lecture style his class is easy. Grading is 100% tests but he makes the lowest 1 out of 5 only worth 50%. 118 possible points on tests but he grades them out of 100 so it's easy to have a high A. Definitely the easiest in the department. Do the practice quizzes!
Prof. Gross is the best professor I have had at FAU. He is excellent at explaining mechanics - and dare I say it - you might actually enjoy learning physics.. Only 5 tests, but if you do well on the first 4 you don't need to take the last to get an A. I found that peers who didn't attend class had a harder time - its only six weeks anyway; just go.
Literally just watch the lectures and reviews (take notes), and you are guaranteed to do well on the exams. Class is graded on 5 exams, with the lowest one weighted at 50%. Honestly, the only good physics professor at FAU, and it is not a difficult class once you take the time to understand. Take him if you want any chance of getting an A.
Lectures are engaging. I took PHY 2048 over the summer, we were graded on 5 tests with the lowest grade being weighted half as much as the other tests.
The average in this class was an 85, but IMO it's easy to get an A. The class was graded on 4 tests and one optional final. However, you don't have to take the 4th test if you do well on the first 3, as your lowest grade is only counted as 25% of a test grade. Professor Gross provides many resources, and the tests are easy and VERY much curved
