Dr. Hall is a good guy althought his teaching style is very unique. I had him for chem 121 and it was an overall good experence. If you dont kiss his *SS he wont like you, so be prepaired to suck up. Him liking you is the difference between an A and a C. Have fun.
Dr. Hall is a very easygoing teacher. He always gives out study sheets that tell you what is going to be on an upcoming test. This makes his tests very easy. The downside is, he likes to go on tangents about stuff that won't necessarily pertain to the subject he's teaching, so you end up with a bunch of notes that don't count for anything.
He is a bad teacher. He is not helpful. He assumes that students know evrything. He does not like a student to ask questions. Guys if you want to take organic go to some other school.
Boo Boo Boo
He is irritated when questions are asked. Not willing to help. Some times he gets angry with students. Avoid him. He brings bad name to NCC
GREAT PROFESSOR. knows chemistry and is willing to teach, gives out practice exams. it's hard to please everybody, so I am sure that some people will find him difficult and won't be happy especially when it comes to organic chemistry. highly recommend him.
did a much better job with part1 than part2 of organic chemistry. good teacher who puts a lot of effort into his lectures. gives quizes which are a short version of the tests. tests are not hard. overall a good professor who is very dedicated and helpful to his students. but does not like to answer stupid questions and sometimes loses patience
Dr. Hall is a good professor who really tries to teach his students and cares almost too much. NCC is his life, he spends too much time talking to the blackboard and not enough time answering questions and solving problems. he is intelligent but his math skills need improvement. I have heard him being called a 'jerk' & a 'great guy'-he is just OK
you have to study really hard. You have to become his friend that he can recognize you and give you good grade. If you don't talk to him, he does not care. But, he can prepare you well for all the exams, which are not hard.
One of the best and smartest professors I have ever had. He shows great interest and knowledge of the subject. He is always there to help you. I would highly recommend him.
you will learn a lot if you take him.
yes, this is a great chemistry professor with a ton of knowledge, relaxed teaching style, and a beautiful friendly smile. he is still young and full of energy, I highly recommend him. yes, he gives a lot of work, with many tests, quizes and weekly homework, but it is necessary to learn the complicated subject of chemistry. so give him a try. A++
simply the best! you will love his class, go for it.
Absolutely a bad professor. Shows favaotism. If you want to take organic go to any one nearby university. He is hopeless
Definitey shows favoritism towards some of the female students. He simply adds them points on the tests and quizes! So I guess if u r one of his puppils u'll enjoy the class. /Gets irritated when you ask too many questions. I guess one question per class period is ok.. In the lab he's never there if u have a question, he always leaves the classroom!
Hopeless teacher. Gives extra points to his favourites students (females). Gets irritated very fast. Do not take his class!
who hire this fellow, he is what you call wasting money on him, please administrator, please get rid of this guy, he is nothing but trouble, his life is boring, and he is on campus 24/7 no personal life at all. ncc is his life. bad in chemistry and math, who make the mistake on hiring this guy, please give him a disability package. and send him off
please send him off in the sunset, what he thinks he can ruin other peoples credibility and still get respect from other students, this monster needs to go before ncc fall, because of teacher's like him why ncc is still struggling to make it to the best. students are tired of wasting tuition on this no good person/it
does this guy knows math? I am taking him now for concept of chemistry, and he does not understand the concept either, what a joke, next ncc please do the students a big favor.. please do a thorough assessment with these wanna be professor, because I really think he has a chronic problem, like the other student said before.. I thought I was the onl
Today, in concept of chemistry I really don't think Robert J. Hall, what he is doing, everytime he told me I am wrong, maybe he is having person issues going on, talk about "bad attitude" that should have been is first and last name. please NCC, send him off in the sunset maybe with a package. someone really need to evaluate this what they call a p
yesterday in concept of chemistry, Robert Hall, did not even understand what he was talking about. ask him to clarify the equation he couldn't I feel so sorry for myself and what I am going to tell my parents. because right now I have the "worst" teacher in the world. not to mention NCC, who hire this guy, I can't imagine they must be desperate!!!
dude, last week in concept of chemistry it was just horrible, Robert Hall don't have a clue what he is teaching he is in his own world, dude we catch him laughing to himself now thats wack!!! NCC, need to replace this wack-out dude. not a good teacher I am actually teaching him math. class suck
WOW!!! What a class this was! Just finished the FINAL. First, must say that he DOES know what he is talking about and he is very smart (in Chem). BUT, he just does NOT know how to convey this knowledge. He FLIES through the material, and NEVER asks if u understand. In order to keep up my GPA, I found myself extremely stressed due to this class.
who cares if he teach organic chemistry, do you realized this guy does not have a background in organic chemistry, if you really want to learn organic chemistry take it at a local university, unless they get another professor to teach it will be perfect, but for now not Robert J. Hall, need I say more
its not about having 10 students in the class for college to have organic chemistry, you also have to understand this Robert J Hall does not have a background in Organic chemistry, I am happy he pass you with a decent grade, but why dont you try a local university where they teach the material better, if NCC get another Professor that is great. not
terrible.
I made it all the way through graduate school without doing badly in a class. But this professor managed to make chemistry HELL. And I've since learned that it's actually interesting, thanks to Dr Curley.Hall assumed we already knew nomenclature etc. It was a waste of $$$...it was like drowning. And he wouldn't answer questions or clarify. Ugh
He is hard but very smart and easy on the eyes..............
DONT TAKE CHEM WITH THIS GUY. he'll make you fail. we're takin tests on ch 1,2,3 while learnin ch 5,6,7. MAKES NO SENSE. we are not gettin a final review. instead more homework and he taught us 3 new chapters just for the final. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. LOOK FOR ANOTHER PROFESSOR, STAT
Covers a lot so attendance is mandatory. Class and lab are not always sequential but do all come together in the end. Take copious notes - all the examples mentioned in lecture end up being on the exams, as well as "exceptions to the rules." Take advantage of review sessions before exams as they are very helpful. Requires a lot of study time.
Very knowledgable but doesn't make you a great teacher. Has to bring himself to students' level, otherwise his knowledge will not be shared. Also has to answer all emails without favoritism.
DR.HALL IS VERY HARD ,BUT HE WILL HELP IF YOU ASK FOR HELP.YOU WILL LEARN IN HIS CLASS BECAUSE IF YOU WANT TO PASS YOU ARE GOING TO TEACH YOURSELF.
Dr. Hall is a wonderful teacher. He holds a lot of knowledge and loves teaching chemistry. His lectures coincide perfectly with the book, but if you don't read it won't make sense. Really enjoyed the class and how he related everything to real life that was relevant to his students. Would take his class again!!
Awful
His tests and quizzes are basically the same as the practice tests and quizzes he gives out so if you study them you'll pass. His weakness is that he goes way too quickly and doesn't make the material easy to understand. Example: Quantam numbers are really easy and I had no idea what he was talking about until I looked at a youtube tutorial on it.
Summer session = 4 test's 1 per week and a cumulative final. He goes way to fast, has shaky math skills, get's mad when you ask a question, has a monotone voice. Most do well on the 6-7 lab's and Homework.Bad in math? Then memorize T/F and fill in the blank b/c he does give partial credit on the math part that will save you.Avg class tests= 70&lower
If you need an A and are not a "hot" female, forget about it! Im dead serious. His math skills are very weak; be prepared him changing his test material while you're in the middle of exam.Very unprofesional.
arrogant. does not teach. unfit to teach. only ncc will employ this kind of people
Horrible. His math skills are the worst. Always makes mistakes in class and even on exams! Gets mad when you ask a question (or to prove he's wrong which is a lot). Goes really fast and he is really confusing. Practice exams help, that is if the questions are typed right or if the solution he gave you was even correct... Good example of a hot mess
This guy has high expectations. He knows chemistry extremely well, but doesn't have the math skills to back it up. If you ask questions he rolls his eyes and sighs. Comes in late to reviews ALWAYS even though he's in the building. Would not recommend unless you have no job, no kids, and tons of time to study/learn stuff on your own.
Nice guy…but incredibly hard to follow. Makes mistakes during lecture, causing lots of confusion. Leaves out given values on practice-exams/quizzes, which means they can't be completed and are therefore useless. Doesn't like to answer many questions. His explanations are VERY abstract, and sometimes beyond the scope of the class. Last-resort only.
Tough class, and not even material wise if he knew how to explain it. He goes really fast and doesn't like to answer questions. He is available for extra help if you need it, but if you don't go for help in the beginning of the semester there's no hope! He gives answers but not explanation of the material, which doesn't help on quizzes and exams.
I've been stuck with this professor for 2 semesters now. He will write stuff on the board and stand in the way so its almost impossible to take notes, he does not explain anything, and acts like everybody is a chemist, not to mention he is extremely boring, not a bad person, just a bad teacher. passing is hard to do with a quiz every week
Seems to have a lot that don't like him, but I find that most just don't put in the effort. When paying attention and actually studying the class is nowhere near as difficult as some make it out to be. He is very helpful with test/quiz preparation as well.
Cool guy, he really is. But he just can't really teach that well. He doesn't give you the textbook chapters before lecture so you can't come to class prepared and ready to ask good questions. He doesn't like answering questions, either. When he does answer some questions they are often out of the context of the lecture topic. Hard to follow.
Teaches pretty straight forward, lots of reviews for tests and quizzes. Paying attention in class is crucial, beside the chapters in the book he will teach some aspects of chemistry that are used in other fields of studying like engineering. Classes are never rushed, material is explained clearly. Easy to talk to and is not demanding.
If you know chemistry then take him. his clarity level is zero. he is very confused and explains nothing. he would write the stuff on the board and will stand infront of it, so u will never understand it. If u want to pass this class and have less knowledge of chemistry dont take him
Worst professor hands down. I knew he was a terrible professor already but I got stuck with his class. Little piece of advice this class is completely self taught and the exams are hit or miss. I am a chemistry major but taking his class is a game of chance, especially because he messes up his calculations when grading your exams & more.
Professor Hall is so RUDE. He erases the info. on the board before students get a chance to write it down. He gets joy from giving students bad grades and gets frustrated when students visit him to ask about course work. Be sure to Check your tests when you get them back, he is known to mark RIGHT questions WRONG and make addition errors...
He will not always slow down and will mostly look at the board while he talks. is really stiff person, and the test are pretty hard
Dr. Hall is very nice and knowledgeable about the subject matter. He clearly explains complex topics and is very helpful if you are willing to ask him. I disagree with the other reviews on here. My first language is not English and had no difficulty understanding Dr. Hall. I studied the material and attended class, and got a good grade.
Lectures are very boring. Very monotone. He is average in just about every category.
This class is meant to be a "weeding-out" course for all of the bright eyed and bushy tailed wannabe health care professionals. Dr. Hall is a great teacher who really pairs down the info to the essentials. I found his class to go slower than average which leaves no excuse for not understanding the material. Get to know the guy. Big sports fan.
Dr. Hall is a great professor, he is very clear and does a great job teaching the material. If you listen, pay attention and study, than you should be more than capable of getting a good grade.
Dr. Hall is a very knowledgeable professor. Lecture is short so he has to go through everything quickly. We had quizzes every week, 4 exams (lowest grade got dropped)& a final, AND had practice exams for EVERYTHING! Which I found extremely helpful. TAKE NOTES (quizzesexams all come mainly from your notes!), study, ASK QUESTIONS, and you'll pass!
I love Dr Hall he's the best chemistry professor I have ever had. He teaches exactly what you need to know. I did not use my textbook at all and got nothing but A s. He gives practice quizzes and practice tests which he goes over. As long as you attend class and take good notes no way you won't get an A.
The class was hard, the teacher was going so fast, he didn't explain well.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. Have to teach yourself; he doesn't explain anything, just writes a ton of notes on the board. Keep track of your papers, will say you didn't hand stuff in, that has already been graded. Is unorganized and teaches material out of order. Very difficult class if you are not good at math or science.
Doesn't care. If you just want to follow directions and pass easily, this is the class for you. If you want learn something, go to Racine.
I had him for general chem 1 and 2. he is not the best but if you do the work and study ( big part of it is self-study) you will pass. make sure to attend the class otherwise it is hard to understand the lecture.
do not take this class with Dr. Hall. You will teach yourself, he gets angry when you ask a question, leaves class before students. Do not go to his office hours,it is for him to eat and relax. He will tell you that.
I rarely write reviews, but with this professor I feel the need to do one. By far the worst in every aspect. Looks like he doesn't want to teach, covers the board when writing notes. By the time you get a chance to take notes he's already onto the next subject. You pretty much have to rely on YouTube and other outside sources to learn and pass.
Horrible professor. Horrible person . Goes way too fast and covers the board when writing . Doesn't explain how he got he answer and grunts and sighs when you ask for help . He doesn't care about the success of his students and gets an attitude . He also has the classroom confused with his living room because he's always taking off his shoes
I've never had such a bad professor. He can't even call himself a professor because you will learn nothing from him. Be prepared to go home and spend hours teaching yourself from an online source. Covers the board when he's "teaching" and by the time you get to see you're left 4 topics behind. Gets irritated when asked questions and vaguely answers
Very educated man
Does not like to answer questions or help students. Lectures and goes way to fast, you must read the textbook before the class starts or you will be behind from day one. Gives homework with 100 questions after 2 weeks of class with no homework or indication of it and does not tell class about homework or post online sends it in email! DISORGANIZED!
Take this class if youre prepared to teaching yourself because the professor wont. Very disorganized and no matter if you ask your neighbors for help because they are just as confused as you are. Labs are boring because he has a one toned voice. Theres a difference with knowing the subject and teaching the subject.
Worst teacher ever! Be prepared to learn on your own
The professor is knowledgeable. He is not an effective TEACHER. He lectured a chemistry course. I felt NOTHING was actually TAUGHT. He's not diligent concerning his role. It seemed to me he had NO ZEAL concerning his profession. If you have a choice I do not recommend this professor. If you have no choice YouTube will be your bestfriend.
Has no idea how to teach, not sure why he is still a professor at Norwalk. Flies through the information and is visibly annoyed when anyone asks any questions or asks him to repeat anything. You can tell he does not really care about his students or teaching. If his section is the only available one for chemistry, take it at Housatonic instead!
This professor is such a pain. He doesn't teach well. He gives too much workload not considering he is not just the only class that one student takes. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR CHEM!!!!!
Professor is not helpful at all, Notes are all over the place, doesn't give you a chance to write notes that are taught on zoom. Don't even bother to follow the Syllabus because he doesn't go by it. No extra credit either. Be ready to teach yourself! oh also rarely responds to email.
No. Just no. Knowledgeable about chemistry but is not good at teaching it. He gets very annoyed when you ask a question. He told me to withdraw. I decided to change my major because of this class. Class started with 20 odd people, when it got closer to the end there were five other people. I don't know if they don't see anything wrong with that.
Took him in the summer of 2017. One of the least enthusiastic teachers I ever had. However, his class was not difficult. He always gave practice tests that were nearly identical to the real one. Honestly, my high school chemistry class was more advanced than this. He's nothing special, but I've had much worse.
DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! If you want to learn/teach yourself then be prepared! He is not clear/concise detailed or specific in the material for exams. He is unenthusiastic, highly advanced and lost his passion for the subject and it shows. Students suffer due to his tardiness. The course was completely rushed at the end and my class all agree!!
The thing I think led to the downfall of my grade was the fact that he could not teach he wouldnt make sure if the class understood what he was saying . he would post the lecture online for you but if u were to ask a question the explanation would end up being more confusing than the question Itself
He discuss lectures on his level not on a student level, he is a difficult teacher, even though you listen to his lecture youre still lost after the class, might as well study on your own, we are paying a lot of money to this school for the teacher to teach us not to teach ourselves. Its just useless to have teachers, and he doesnt smile at all.
Nice professor. Only raised his voice if the class is too loud. He repeatedly reviewed material if students were still confused and helped when asked a question. One thing is some of his answer keys don't match every question from the practice quizzes/exams given and no curves (summer class). Hard grader, ask questions if you're confused, seriously
I took the 4 week summer course which was a lot of material but he did not spend an excessive amount of time covering unnecessary topics and was great at going over in detail the material on the exams and quizzes. He was very understanding when I had to miss a class and even recorded it for me so I didn't get behind.
Professor Hall made this class very easy to pass. He wrote a lot of notes but they were very helpful for the exams. He did practice quizzes and exams that were very helpful during tests. He tries his best to teach you the material and takes time out to post review videos on blackboard.
Don't do it to yourself. Do not take this class with this professor. If it's not available take it with literally anyone else. He will never respond to your emails. He really does not care.
I failed the class but that could honestly really be my own fault. He has a good heart he just hides it really well and people don't always see that. I would take his class again I would just study a lot more since I know what hes like now.
Do yourself a favor and do not take this class with this professor. He's the worst professor ever. Did not learn anything from him. Made my life miserable.
Not as bad as the reviews say. Very fair grader. Grades quickly. Not a easy class as far as material goes. Would take this professor again.
I would not recommend his class at all. If will tell you to read so many things for a test and then put completely different stuff on it. Does not want students to ask him questions
I had Dr. Hall for CHEM 111 (Spring), CHEM 121 (Summer), and CHEM 122 (Summer). His exams are lecture-focused, but he provides study guides and shares what will be on the test in class. He's very caring, open to conversation, and even holds weekend reviews covering material for quizzes, exams, and challenging topics. I do recommend reading the book
So he was very nice with grading for our section, especially the summer session. He was nice with deadlines. The exams are lecture heavy, review until you can't anymore and you'll be ok, I mean it is Gen Chem 2 it's essential no matter what. Since it was the summer course it felt super rushed but make sure you do everything on time. You'll pass
Terrible professor who just reads off the textbook. Exams and quizzes are very hard. Be prepared to study for a long long time
Professor Hall uses the textbook religiously for his lectures. You don't have to buy it which is a plus because he posts lectures and tons of notes on BB. This class involved a lot of math and remembering certain conversions/formulas. Overall a decent class but challenging if you aren't ready to study.
If I could give ZERO out of 5 I would!! This professor just WRITES things down and does not explain anything. Asking questions is like a burden or bothersome. You literally have to TEACH YOURSELF! Had it not been for YouTube and tutoring I would have even more challenges with this course. Please for your own sake find other options!!!!
ATTENTION! Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take his course! If I could give negative 1000 as score, I would!! This professor is horrible and very rude. All he does is write things on the board and expects you to understand it without explaining anything. Get upset if you ask questions and I even witnessed him, grab a student‘s phone and throw it.
Dr. Hall does a decent job of introducing the topic of study by putting his notes on the board for students to record while he lectures. He goes too quickly for my liking, as while I'm recording he is moving on to the next topic, leaving me to scramble & not absorb the lessons. Despite spending 4 hours in the classroom a day, studying is necessary.
This class was horrible. I spent four hours a day in it, and then received tutoring. His lectures are fast and he does the math in his head. You're watching him do chemistry. He does not teach.
Dr. Hall is misunderstood. It's true that he's not a great lecturer and can come across coldly, but he just has social issues and takes a while to warm up to you. He cares a lot about his students and knows his stuff. It's very possible to do well if you study. He focuses heavily on quiz/exam practice and gives out mock ones that help so much.
Listen. He's a nice guy. But yes, it's true he can be unclear when lecturing. But he's very understanding, gives you feedback 1 on 1, accommodates you if you communicate it with him. This class is for people who like to teach THEMSELVES about the content, instead of purely relying on him to teach you. Independent? This class is for you.
