Professor Harmon loves History. His lectures are entertaining and nonbiased- well for a history professor anyway. His exams and grading system are very fair- highly recommended.
Harmon knows his history. He is full of knowledge and truly gets discouraged by students that refuse to learn by not reading the material. He is a good teacher that would aid anyone interested in history.
Mr. Harmon is the best history teacher I've ever had. He is EXTREMELY entertaining and he knows his stuff. His tests are easy and avoid any tricks. He wants his students to read the material. He is usually always available during office hours and is even more animated when one-on-one! A++
This man is a joke. His tests are easy. All you have ot do is repeat what he said in class, no place for original thinking. It helps too if you are attractive. Take him if you want an easy A but not if you want to learn.
If you want ot learn history don't take this man. he just gives his opinions and won't let students offer theirs.
Mr. Harmon is a great professor. His tests are easy if you do the reading and show up for class and take good notes.
He is very opinionated, but very, very knowledgable. He loves to read (expects you to read) and he loves history. He's very into all of this ancient stuff. Definately worth your time.
One of worste classes I ever had. This man should not be teaching. He does not even know his subject. He just tells story after story about his leftist youth. He still being paid for doing a bad job. Easy A though.
Easy grade (especailly if you're good looking) as long as you repeat everything he said, no room for individual thought at all. In his class, Marx is god. Harmon is just another 60s Che wanna-be. He should retire but before he does he should take classes on the millions that commuists killed.
Mr. Harmon is a good teacher.
Very into his subject and extremely good speaker. He knows more about history than any other teacher I've had. I think he gets frustrated with students who don't read though. His class was very interesting; I would totally recommend it.
Prof is very in to himself. He never gives students a chance to ask questions or give their views. You 'll get tired of hearing stories about how BAD capitalism is. After a bit, you may want to give up on education. But it's very easy to get an A.
Cool teacher for Hisotry! He doesn't believe in tests, but gives papers instead. O recommended him to all of my friends. They liked him too.
He is an interesting person, and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. I don't think I learned anything, and the tests were extremely easy... but he is a funny guy, and drifts so far off topic that you really get into it. You never know whats going to be happening next.
Laughable and waste of my time. I would not take him at all.

He gives really interesting lectures. He knows what he's talking about. We had two tests-both multiple choice, and one writing assignment that was basically summarizing readings. Not much work, and a really fun class!

Great class. Easy grade. If you need to take history take Harmon.

I LOVED this guy!!! I thought that the lectures were awesome.. he has a totally inter-disciplinary approach to his lectures. Speaks with real passion. The course work is light.. which lends to alot of inclass learning if you are smart enough to actually go to try and learn something.
never again!
what a joke.
a prehistoci relic. Hey "flower power, Man"!
a real stinker
Just lectures and lectures and lectures then hands out "A"s, if you can show you came to class. But do'nt walk in late!
If you want an easy grade, take Harmon. But if you want to learn stay home read on your own.
Great teacher!
Just a take it for the credit, not for him.
He's a good guy and a great teacher. Interesting lectures and genuinely wants to help students learn. Tests are challenging but not bad.
This guy is old as them come when it comes to his views, which he never stops telling you. How about teaching something instead of givining us your opinion about current events! Now that's a new one, hey Professor Harmon?
I really enjoy His class, I teaches you about stuf that not everyone knows and is usefull to you. Test were not all that hard, grade far. Over all a great teacher.
Very interesting teacher..not clear at times, but tells you what will be on the test! Very nice and funny man. Great Teacher!!!
I was at ECC for two years and I took a class with him every semester except one. He is awesome. He lectures like he's telling you a story. He's a lenient grader, who will reward effort even if you're not the best writer. Just don't disrespect him and talk during class. He's my favorite!!!!!
A terrible teacher! He simply fill his lectures with his opinions and if you challenge his view of any historical event, he makes you look like a fool in front of the whole class. No respect for students goes along with his lack of respect for the historical truth.
His class is soooo easy! He lectures a lot, but doesn't give a lot of assignments. The tests are super easy- first was an essay test that he gave to us ahead of time. Second was a multiple choice, which he went over the class before. The third was to just write about any 6 historical things that you wanted. But he's a CRAZY old man!
Lectures a lot and does put his opinions in the class. He snaps at younger students. Pretty good class sometimes.
Harmon's a walking history encyclopedia. Opinionated, but very knowledgeable. Hard/lengthy multiple choice tests, but grades on the biggest curve you will ever have. Overall one of the best instructors one could have.
Great Teacher, Knows is stuff. Anyone who doesn't like this guy needs to lighten up. Harmon can speak several languages spent years living abroad. Respect the man and you will gain respect back.
Mr. Harmon is my favorite teacher at ECC. His class was NEVER boring. He's very enthusiastic, which is why I've taken two classes w/him. He grades fairly. Make sure your essays are well-organized and to the point, and he'll give you an A.
He's an older guy but he knows his stuff. He only lectures, no power points, few notes on the board, and an occasional movie. But if you go to class and listen and take notes, you'll do fine on the tests. Virtually no homework. He'll like you if you respect him. He'll like you even more if you read the textbook and answer his questions in class!
Took him for POS 150 and HIS 151.GREAT TEACHER!!! Only a few tests and no assignments, but tests are essay and take home. Take good notes. He is a bit opinionated and can get lippy with some students, but realize he's just busting your chops and do it back! He'll respect you and apologize. He is fabulous!! Taking him every semester I can!
Mr. Harmon is the best teacher I've had so far. His lectures have the craftsmanship of an expert. He has a wealth of information to give. I hope the sensationalized media he is receiving will not tarnish his reputation. I would like to be able to take more of his classes in the future. I hope this media hype does not take away that ability.
Professor Harmon is my favorite teacher at ECC. His lectures are very detailed and educated. I have learned more from his class than from any other so far. Anyone who is a history major can respect his knowledge. The world needs more history professors like Mr.Harmon.
The most knowledgable History Professor you will ever have. He has forgotten more than most will ever learn. While he is definitly very liberal (he calls himself a socialist) this does not interfer with his teaching. Even though I am a conservative I will say you can not do better then taking his honors Western Civ class.
best teacher at ecc by far. i took both of his western civ classes, and i learned more than i did in two years of grad school. real deal
best teacher at ecc by far. i took both of his western civ classes, and i learned more than i did in two years of grad school. real deal
BEST TEACHER AT ECC
Great professor. He can be rough in the sense of being very direct, but he's only like that when needed. I learned A LOT and he was very helpful when I had a medical emergency and couldn't make it to class
awesome teacher.he knows SO MUCH about history, and he teaches it all very well.he can go off on little tangents, but they end up pretty funny.i'd recommend him for sure
BEST HISTORY teacher ever!!!!And he is super hilarious. If you pay attention, take notes, and read wht he gives you. Guaranteed A and he is super knowledgeable. Really enjoyed his class!
He is a great history teacher. Very knowledgeable in his profession! Learned more from him than I did ever did in this subject. Class is based on four assignments. One essay exam, in which he tells you the questions beforehand, a multiple-choice exam as a midterm, a take-home essay, and a multiple-choice final.
He is honestly the best teacher that I have had in my entire life (elementary school all the way through college). I was a History minor and he blew away the professors that I had at the 4 year college. I loved History going in, but learned how to analyze and see the significance in how it affects today. I never did this before.
I'm not much of a history person, but he knew a lot about the topic and got me pretty interested! His tests are crazy hard, but he curves like no other so everyone has a chance to get an A!
I took Western Civ with Harmon and it was the absolute most boring class I have ever taken. He goes off on random rants. He repeats things constantly to the point where it just becomes annoying. It's an easy class if you're prepared to sit through monotonous, boring lectures.
Harmon is a great professor. He does routinely go completely off topic, but his lectures make sense. Overall grade is determined by 4 tests. You don't HAVE to show up for class, only on test days. However, he gives you a lot of notes so you don't really want to miss it! Great professor, funny, and makes class interesting! Take him!
He makes his tests extremely easy. On our last test, he gave us a curve of 100-65= A. He is hard to follow at times, but as long as you read the materials he gives out, you should be fine. I still can't get over how easy of a grader he is. He does go on random tangents for quite some time, but if you can look past that, this class is for you.
He is very smart and is the first time that I have liked history. It is hard to answer his questions in class, so he thinks no ane reads, but over all he is the best. I wich he did Hist 151. He is streamilly funny
He's definitely one of my favorite teachers at ecc. He's an easy grader and doesn't give homework besides some reading material that isn't mandatory. He's extremely knowledgable and loves what he does.
I liked him some people might not but i thought he was kinda funny. He loves teaching history. Gives crazy curves and he grades the two essays pretty leniently.
At first I thought it was going to be difficult based on his demeanor, but I turned out to be wrong. Harmon is very passionate about history and tells very good tales. The book was not used to much, but if you listen and take good notes, then you should do perfectly fine. He pretty much lets you know whats going to be on the exams and I had a blast
He's a very bright prof. He don't a concrete lecture so he can drift on subjects a lot. He tells you to read and won't follow through with the lecture on the chapter. Attendance is not mandatory just be there for the essay exams. He curves grade. He LOVE to have class discussion. If you don't discussion he'll question your intelligence.
Harmon is a good teacher. But he is too monotone and starts screaming
He was kind of a crazy teacher. he would talk really soft at times and then really loud at others. Was a really easy grader, and we only got 4 assignments the whole semester. he has trouble with technology so nothing is on D2L. it was a little hard to follow at times, but I'd take him again.
I did not like Harmon's way of teaching. He was very smart but if was often rude to students who did not know the answers to his questions. He would talk really quiet and then start screaming. His lectures are hard to follow you're better off reading the textbook. The only good thing about him is that he does crazy curves on tests and papers.
Harmon is an intelligent man, but his lectures are a bit unorganized. He starts off in a whispering voice then starts yelling. Class discussion is expected. Only 4 exams are given and he gives you the actual exam questions to take home. Attendance is not required. I only showed up ~8 times and got an A.
Harmon was great! got an A+. His lectures can be long and get off topic. But, you can tell he has a passion for history and he wants to make sure you learn about history and how it effects you everyday. There are only 4 tests and he gives you the questions a class before the actual test day so you can prepare yourself to succeed.
His lectures are funny and he will go in depth on the matter he sometimes goes off topic but he is awesome
You only take three test in his class and he will literally give you the questions that will be on the test the third test is a take home essay (1,500) that is due in 2 weeks.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, YOU WILL REGRET IT IMMENSELY. Always in a bad mood and comes to class angry, sometimes throws fits and yells at the class. Is unclear during lectures and gives out 4 graded exams all semester, you never know where you stand in his class grade wise because he doesn't use D2L to post grades. Worst professor I've had.
Professor Harmon is a joke. All he does is talk about "when he was a young radical." What does that have to do with learning history? But I took the class because I needed it and I heard that if you showed up you would get an A. I did and got the A. But I would never take this BORING man again.
I took international relations in fall 2015. Super easy and interesting class! He pretty much talks the whole time, so be sure to take notes. Only homework is reading the textbook and any articles he hands out. Gives you the test questions before the test day. Only four tests the whole semester.
Loves to assign reading in the textbook and on articles he hands out in class. Yes he can be angry but if you read and answer questions then he will love you. Doesn't give any homework but gives out 2 written exams and 2 multiple choice exams that he will curve
Prof. Harmon is one of my favorite teachers ever. He isnt there to teach you just the ciriculum but takes from his personal knowledge of the things hes seen in his lifetime. His lectures are very interesting even though sometimes he can go off topic overall this class is an easy A. He teaches things they never taught in high school! Take him
Great teacher, lecture heavy and is easily irritated if you do not participate do to not reading the material, but heavily curves assignments of which there are only 4. very passionate about history and treats you like an adult. Worst thing I can say about him is he does let his politics be known but it doesn't influence what or how he teaches.
Awful
At the beginning of the semester I was a little apprehensive about professor Harmon. He lectures very heavy and can easily become irritated if you don't read or participate in discussions which is reasonable. You take a total of 4 tests, that he curves. Overall he was very nice and cared about his students.
Tbh, he's a pretty good professor, does lectures almost every day, but in a way where its pretty entertaining, I had him Monday mornings and anyone who can keep me that intrigued at like 8 in the morning is doing something right, easy A if you pay even moderate attention.
Professor Harmon is great. He always ties what is learned in class to the real world. I 'm not a History person or someone who enjoys it, but he had me interesting in every single lecture. He's hilarious and as long as you can write solid essays, there's no reason to receive a grade lower than a C. I definitely recommend him as a History professor
Professor Harmon is a great teacher. He gives good lectures and is always willing to help you prepare for the exams. There are 4 exams, 2 written exams,mid-term, and final. He really doesn't care about attendance just make sure you know what you are studying and make sure you read the book. He may get off topic but overall he is a great professor,
While knowledgeable, the man is anything buy organized. His lectures are long winded and often explore irrelevant or unrelated topics to what is supposed to be course material. While an easy A for non-History majors, for the rest of us, he comes off as arrogant and dull. I would only take him for the grade, not for the experience.
This teacher is by far the worst I have ever had. He just yells all the time and spend the majority of the class off topic. I recommend not taking at all!
Very disorganized, often, he would lecture the same material twice. Why didn't anyone tell him? He has a hot temper and is rather narcissistic. He gets angry when people don't raise their hands, but will also interrogate and embarrass you when you do attempt to answer. He's very smart, I wish he taught better. But his character flaws get in the way
I took Harmon for a 200 level class and although I found some parts of his personality (rambles a bit, very loud and idealistic) a bit unpleasant, I learned a lot from his lectures and didn't use the book once to get an A. No papers or homework, just the tests with very clear expectations. Got along with everyone in the class well.
If you need a history course this is your man. He doesn't give much homework if any, he will assign readings(that no one reads). His lectures are fun and he's very informing and he has a clear passion for History and teaching. He's a good energy even if he gets randomly loud. For History101 we only had four tests. But he does give you all the tools
When I took this class he was fully against us buying a textbook, which I liked because textbooks tend to be a little price heavy. He did give us material to read, however. He does ask open ended questions to start discussion and does get upset if no one raises their hand, rightfully though. This class is by far the highlight of my day.
Harmon is very passionate and funny. His writing assignments are easy and the midterm is the only challenging test. Book is not needed.
Genuinely passionate about what he teaches. I sat in the front and it was a good thing I did because hes soooo soft spoken. His tests are fairly easy and gives study guides. He wants everyone to pass so just be ready to pay attention and youll do fine. If I can do it at 8am you can too!
Harmon is VERY intelligent and passionate about history. He always gets side tracked when lecturing, which can make the class feel long and draining. If you are interested in history you will excel in his class. Only 4 tests the whole semester (2 are essay based and 2 are multiple choice) He gives out clear study guides that is everything to know.
Hes very anti technology - would not let us have our phones or computer out (even if we were taking notes). The class is 4 tests. 2 are short answer/essay and he gives you the questions beforehand. The other 2 are mult choice. He gives you a study guide and curves them but I found them hard. He lectures the entire class and often gets off track.
Professor Harmon is incredibly detailed, although many times he may repeat things he has already said, they never become less valuable and in some cases, quite hysterical. I took Modern European History and it was the best history class I have ever taken. I highly recommend taking a class with Professor Harmon if you're passionate about History!
Professor Harmon was one of my favorite professors at ECC! He was always passionate about the lessons. He really did want all of his students to pass. The class is lecture heavy and test heavy. The grading is completely based on 4 exams. If you like history and enjoy some flavor being added to it, then Professor Harmon is the instructor for you :)
Harmon is a very kind teacher who, if you respect him he will do a lot to help you. His class is easy, lots of reading but only 4 assignment for the whole semester. I really enjoyed this class and he knows a lot about what he teaches.
He can come off as strict bu he is very kind and resourceful. in my IR class there were 4 essay test and he gives you the exam questions ahead of time which is good so you can study. he really encourages everyone to think critically and read in between the lies
His lectures are kind of messy and all over the board (literally, his notes on the board don't make any sense). It is an easy A bc he is the easiest grader on the planet. I literally got like a 54% on one of the tests & he gave me a C on it. He is extremely rude and always calls students out, making them feel stupid.
Although he's a lenient grader, his teaching method leaves much to be desired. He will call on you but made you feel dumb when you don't answer questions to his liking. Gave info that contradicted the book. Was very disorganized and hard to follow. Went off topic many times. I always dreaded showing up to class.
Pros: not many assignments each week, easy assignments, gives helpful feedback, well organized Cons: lots of reading, lengthy final Overall, this professor and class were GREAT. As long as you complete all the assignments on time (duh) you will get an A.
