Extremely influential and intelligent man; strong ability to connect w/ students
Caring Professor

Dr. Hass taught me how to read poetry--something i didn't think possible.
Passionate about poetry. His strict grading of papers almost caused a mutiny in my class but he lets people rewrite papers
Dr. Hass is a very beautiful man inside and out. His poetic words speak as clearly as his sensual eyes do. I hope to someday meet a man that is half as good.
Great Prof!
Dr. Hass taught me to feel what an author has written and I can give him nothing but the best
good guy. strict with grades
Excellent discussions and he gives you a chance to do better on grades.
The BIGGEST dick you will ever meet. One HUGE male chauvinist ****. He is one of the BIGGEST ****s I have ever met. His class is boring, and he makes you feel stupid. I passed with an A, but that is only because I knew my ****. Stay clear of him!!!
he is a great guy. very congenial and nice. he is extremely smart and interesting. my favorite professor yet.
Great guy even if he's younger than me! Learned alot from his class. He's tough but that's what English professors should be like. He comes off like a hard guy but he's very helpful and we always had a great time in his class.
Robert Hass is the sexiest professor I have ever seen. His passion for poetry and his adorable smile make it hard for me to leave his class every day. Awesome professor. Probably the best in the whole department.
This is the best English class ever. Dr. Hass is very helpful and cares about his students. He is easygoing and the discussions in class are so much fun. This class is an easy A.

If you want some great eye candy while you learn about English lit, then this is the stud for you!!! He is gorgeous and I wish he offered one-on-one extra help. Wink, wink. Seriously, he is a great professor. Very passionate!
mmmm...Dr. Hass is my dream guy, he has the nicest tightest butt and he is so dreamy, he is so passionate about literature, and he's a real environmentalist. I apprecaite his intellegence and he is an amazing conversationalist, and an excellent professor.
I hated him at first, he tried to be intimidating. He is very smart, and he'll be the first one to let you know. Pretty easy grader, but will write all over everything. Just participate in class and he'll like you.
awesome, liked class, hes super nice, funny, tries to be intimidating at first but is really a baby, had lots of fun, definitely would take him again
He is a pompous, arrogant **** who didn't teach me jack****.
Awesome teacher!!!!! - Easy to get him off of the subject he is talking about though.
I don't know why everyone thinks this guy is so HOT. he isn't bad looking, but my god! not HOT. His class was pretty easy, if you know how to work. he is helpful if you ask him. I would take him again if i got the chance to. Easily distracted also.
seemed tough and snobby at first, but then turned out to be a fun class, need to read the text, or at least cliff notes. helps out grade with small easy quizzes, does get off subject easy, but thats ok.
Good guy. Easily distracted. Definately would take him again.
He was the first teacher who actually got through to me affectively.
Tries to come off as snobby and a tough grader at first, but he is neither. Talked me into becoming an English major after all. :P
Professor Hass tries to be intimidating the first day of class. But he will let his guard down by the second or third class, guaranteed. he's a funny guy. Very intelligent. As far as hot goes, well, he's sexy, in an intelligent, older man kind of way. Easy class if you're willing to participate
He's a really good teacher. He is very clear and understandable. He's funny and really understands what he is talking about. He helps out his students and grades fairly. If he sees improvement on your papers, then he'll higher the grade a little if you are on the border. Overall, good teacher.
Yes, he is a snob.
Great Professor who's laid back. do the work and you'll learn a lot.
Dr. Hass is the smartest man I've ever met and the best teacher EVER! Also, he's SUPER hot!!!
Dr. Hass is a wonderful prof. You'll learn a lot from him if you just do your work and pay attention in class. He tried to be a hardass the first day, but then he becomes a very cool guy.
This proff is great guy easy to learn from laid back the first two classes he was a lil hardcore but he is fun and just get him side tracked and he'll go off forever, he is ually late
You will learn a lot from Dr. Hass. His classes are engaging and fun. Take a course or two from him.
was hard the first day but then after that was easy! i LOVED his class!!! it is a lot of fun!! he is helpful to! makes jokes and likes you to debate in the class!!
Dr. Hass is the best english prof. out there. He is so down to earth and so easy to get along with. He is always there to help even if he has to take time out of his spare time. He is what every prof. should be! I wish i was an english major just so i could take another class with him.
Get to class on time! He is always, always, always- did I mention always?? LATE!!! Our time is important too. He could be a much more effective professor if he would focus on teaching rather than telling us of his licentious past and present.
This class was pretty stupid. He was always late, and NEVER in his office during his office hours. However, as long as you go to class, speak up, and are a decent writer you should be okay. It's not a hard class...just boring...
Dr. Hass is often late for class, but I think it is because he is usually helping a student. From my experience, Hass is more concerned with what the student understands than the clock on the wall. I would take another class from him. Hass is a Professional. He knows his stuff, is very intense, and is engaging.
I practically salivate at the thought of hearing him lecture. He is a brilliant man who seems to know everything about literature. His ego is huge, but in spite of this flaw, he is student-oriented and clearly interested in proliferating a passion for literature in his students. Great professor, but definitely the next Dr. Faustus.
I loved this class. Dr. Hass was really nice and he's really cute too.
excellent teacher very intelligent
I've had him for two other classes 101 and 102 and he was great. Easy A's. This class was horrid. after this class I would never recommend him again. SOOO boring. Book is pricey and you can just look it all up on sparknotes. Dont take it unless its a must! He would not show up until 10 after the class started and then just say "sorry.."
Just about the best english professor on campus. had him for 101 and 102 man is a genius. very intelligent and demands alot of his students. Participation in class is key, so dont just sit in the back and expect a c. If ya keep the discussion goin hell help ya on ur grade. do the work and dont be afraid to ask for help.
I don't quite understand what everybody is raving about. Yes he is intelligent, sensitive, and passionate about his subject. Ofcourse along with this comes the habit of putting down students for attending EUP and not knowing all of the things that he knows. The work load is light, but read for minute details because those will be on the quizzes.
So hot that I almost had to cancel my wedding plans... plus he's a great professor! I actually like going to class. Anyone that's not getting a decent grade from Hass needs to hit the books.
He was a total joke, he showed us a movie for like 3 weeks that was never on a test. We had two papers all year and he didn't even read our final papers because everybody got whatever grade they got on their "mid term" papers that they turned in. Easy as hell though no work required he just didn't care at all
Dr. Hass is a very smart man, but he is arrogant and rude to his students. That kind of intolerable behavior does not hold up well in a classroom. Overall, I do not think I would recommend him for most of the classes he teaches.
Hass is excellent at writing, I will not deny him that, but he is very arrogant. All semester he was late for class. There were various complaints about him missing appointments also. He will help you if you ask for it. Lots of bonus opportunities to bring up your grade. He grades fair, so if you don't mind an arrogant prof...go for it!
Great teacher who knows a lot about literature, though he made us read all of the Iliad, Odyssey and Aeneid and quizzed us on them. Hard multiple choice exams, though he leaves room for extra credit. Would take again definitely.
Great Teacher! One of the best I've ever had. He doesn't use notes, which makes his class interesting because he carries on a dialogue with us. Brillian man who seems to know everything about Shakespeare.
Excellent, intelligent, engaging professor. He is very passionate about writing. I dont know how anyone thinks he is disrespectful to his students. He is a true asset to Edinboro.
He is very passionate and well spoken, but I have never had a professor as arrogant as he is. That is saying a lot. I also question the history expert he passes himself off as and the required readings. I do not object because of their length or vocabulary, but because I am not sure if they are the best texts we could be reading.
Excellent and insightful class. Inspirationally brilliant and passionate in his work.
I was really worried about this class(not an eng major...needed a lit though) It wasn't as bad as i thought it would be...one midterm(in like midnovember) and a final, plus a few 3 point quizzes. The tests were some what tricky, but not impossible and he gives a curb. He asks4 really small details on quizzes. P.S. NOT HOT!
Dr. Hass knows everything there is to know about Shakespeare. Makes things easy to understand. Gives lots of quizzes so it helps to go to class, but attendance wasn't taken much. Class participation is his motivation. Always inquisitive as to what others interpretations are of Shakespeare...if you get the chance...take him
Great professor. Easy class. Although he does exhibit bias towards some students (not sure why but it is evident). His expectations vary significantly towards various students. Some students with poor grammar sometimes pull of easy A's while some are forced to earn it(he can be picky towards some students). I earned mines. Overall, a good professor
great
Dr. Haas was terrific! If I can fit in another english with him for a gen ed I will. He was very patient with my silly grammer mistakes and didn't deduct point for them right away. He WANTS his students to succeed and you can't do that with poor reading and writing skills. Take his class you will learn a lot.
Excellent teacher! Inspirational and very funny but also has a serious side. His passion for literature is contagious.
Class is really boring when he gets into lectures but he is a good guy. He is willing to help you with every assignment. There are no tests for this class which is always good.
This class was overall good. Lectures can tend to get really boring. He is willing to help with any problems concerning your papers. No tests for this class
Overall, he's a good guy. His lectures can get kind of boring. He is really vague when he assigns stuff too and gets mad when people get it wrong. He uses vocabulary that most people have to ask him what he's talking about. Oh, and he's a stickler for grammar. But he is a nice guy and will help you, but might make you feel stupid in the process.
Great Class. Dr. Hass obviously knows a lot about poetry and is very enthusiastic in his presentation. He lightens class with a good sense of humor. The only drawback is his multiple choice tests, which can be tricky so you have to pay close attention to little details. Overall, a great class.
Really easy guy to get along with. He can have debates with you, he has solid opinions about things. Overall, i enjoyed the class and he left objectives clear. He thinks pretty highly of himself, but he tends to know what hes talking about. I do reccomend taking him.
No textbook, just a $12 packet. He doesn't teach anything about grammar or writing, just tells you what to write about. Some papers are done by group. He grades fairly.
Incredible, passionate lecturer. Speaks without notes and is very clear. Fair tests. Easy to talk to. Gives extra credit.
He likes to intimidate his students with being vague. He makes them feel as if he is worldly and they are nothing. He needs a new personality. He is full of himself and likes to stroke his ego.
It wasn't the easiest English class I took, but then again I had much worse back in high school. Dr. Hass only give 4-5 assignments for his class. I would not recommend him, though, if you're not good with working in groups. But overall, the class was informative. I highly recommend him for students with learning disabilities.
I love him! he is very cool and only gives 5 assignments all semester. Very nice guy. reminds me of the english teacher from Easy A. does force us to work in groups but it usually turns out fine. Would definately take his class again!
Intelligent! Is willing to help perfect your writing. Honestly I've been told my writing is like a little kids. He's turned my writing around in just half the semester I'm an A student in English before his class I was lucky to even write out a sentence correctly.
Very good experience, Dr. Hass is extremely intelligent and well spoken. He has an understanding for students who have time constraints, and is very helpful. We originally had 5 papers for the semester, but it was shortened to 4. He does not make you buy an expensive textbook. Good class, would recommend and take him again.
I want to take every class he teaches. Such a great professor. Learned a lot from him.
This professor was excessively vague on what he expected from his students. He spent too much of his time off on random tangents and actually taught his students very little. He also let his opinions influence his grading far too much.
Class was really boring. Only a 100 level class, but I felt like he made people who didn't know about authors and other readings feel stupid. Tests were easy though. Go to class and take the quizzes because they will help your grade.
Intro to Fiction was the best online class I have had at Edinboro. This class has recorded lectures and is well organized. Multiple choice exams are a bit tricky but there is a review guide. Would definitely recommend.
Good class for a required course. Just make sure you keep up with the work and you should get an A. Online class is well organized and the best part is you don't have to buy any textbooks.
I attended EUP for 3 semesters over a decade ago, and Dr. Hass was the greatest! I found him easy to get along with, and being from the Scranton, PA area, where he had roots, we could relate on many things. Furthermore, our in-class discussions were always fun, and he was very knowledgeable.
Nice guy to talk to but boring to take. didn't learn a lot because he thinks people should speak in poetry or old English. Total freshmen teacher, they love him but not really anything for the upper class man. tries to be funny and fails
I took this class on Wednesdays from 6-8:30 and it was a very boring two and a half hours every week. Dr. Hass really likes to listen to himself speak, but he knows everything there is to know about Shakespeare. The midterm and final are both online and you don't have to come to class to take them. I didn't read any plays.
Really enjoyed his class! Great professor and very intelligent! Learned so much from him. Would recommend him to anyone.
Hass is very well spoken and knowledgeable. He appears to grade based on his expectations of you. Make sure your work ethic matches your in-class enthusiasm. His lectures are fantastic and his feedback is generally helpful. Don't take his critiques personally, they can be scathing but they are significant. I took my work to him to peer review.
This is my 4th class with Dr. Hass and I can honestly say he's my favorite professor. And I am a woman. Dr. Hass can be full of himself and he likes to argue with you but he is smart and always listens to what you have say and respects your opinion. His tests can be tricky but he gives extra credit. Very helpful and respectful.
Hass is by all means well educated, but his tendency to show off that education in his lectures is far too frequent. I've had him twice and he's constantly off topic. You can pass his classes without reading or paying attention to the lectures, but I still recommend reading because he throws curveballs on his quizzes/tests.
pretty bad experience overall. the class is ridiculously easy, you can depend on google for an easy A. his lectures are monotonous and often off topic. he starts at least five minutes late every day, is condescending, and has his own standards that cause him to point out any flaw if you dont live up to them. its easy, but i wouldnt take him again.
Dr. Hass is an amazing professor! He gives great feedback and allows for interesting class discussions. Most of the work completed is essays, but he gives you plenty of time to complete the assignment. If you are an OSD student like myself, Dr. Hass is very accommodating and will tell you that he "loves having disabled students in the class."
Hass made really boring material interesting. English 201 is not really a literature class. You read diaries, sermons, travel journals. He made us read all of John Smith, which was awful! Despite really boring material I have a much better sense of American history. Hass knows a lot and sometimes focuses too much on context, but overall reallygood.
Hass always seems to have a unique take on the literature we read. He also bought our entire class tickets so we could go see "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?" If i have one criticism, he always goes over time and is unaware of the clock.
Dr. Hass is an extremely intelligent individual. However, he expects you to know Greek words and phrases when you obviously have not encountered them before. He also expects you to understand intense and very dense readings. With that being said he can be very funny and understanding. I wouldn't avoid his classes. You will learn a lot!
Great class, but some of the readings were so dense I had trouble getting through them. Without Dr. Hass, I would have had no idea what the hell some of these theorists were talking about. The readings tend to be leftist and a bit one-sided for a conservative, but Dr. Hass respected and listened to my disagreements.
I would not take him again. This class almost wrecked my GPA. He would say things then go back on his word. All of our class members had to beg for extra credit just to pass. Condescending and arrogant. I literally do not know how people like him so much. DO NOT ATTEMPT.
Good online class with recorded lectures. All stories are also online so you don't have to buy a book. The reading isn't too heavy, though you do need to keep pace. Easy A if you do all the work.
Dr. Hass was a very understanding professor. He expects you to come to class, but if you do he will cut you a break if you have a personal issue. I had a medical issue, and he gave me an extension on my paper. He also offered me words of encouragement, which I really needed at that time. Would definitely take him again.
He doesnt give very many assignments, but when he does, he doesnt give very much information about the assignment and what to do. When your assignment is grade he takes points off for things he never said you couldnt use or talk about. Overall, a small amount of assignments, but isnt very direct.
Hass's Shakespeare class was the best English class I have ever taken. He makes the plays understandable and connects them to everyday life. HIs tests are really tricky, but he curves them. He even held a review session to help us prepare for our final.
Hass never read any of my papers while I had taken his class and doesnt give very good feedback. Hes a nice professor but doesnt give many specifics and stays from his syllabus.
This was my favorite English class ever. Dr. Hass makes his classes interesting because he explains the history and context of the stories and poems. He also doesn't kill us with too much reading the way some profs do. I would definitely take him again.
Hass is a tough grader yet very nice, he's understanding If you need to miss class and is easy to reach out to outside of class! He has his own text book which you use maybe 3 times the whole semester.
Amazing lecturer who knows everything and is passionate about literature. His quizzes are tricky so you need to pay attention. He gave us extra credit for attending a poetry reading, which helped my grade. His only downside is that he seems disappointed when students have not read obscure books. Seriously, how many of us want to read Dante?
Took this online Fall 2020. Hass is extremely knowledgeable about Shakespeare and provides amazing insight for each of our readings, though he does have a big vocabulary so get ready to write. He creates a pleasant atmosphere for his students and is able to answer our questions with ease. I really enjoyed this course.
Took in Fall '21. This class was rough. Very philosophical and note-heavy, but I feel like I took a lot away from this class. Nothing really stuck while I was in there but looking back, I feel like I have a better grasp on the content matter than I thought I did. He's definitely willing to help where he can.
This class was a little difficult for me because of the amount of reading you have to do. Quizzes are fully from the class lectures so it's important you show up to class. He is very sociable and can talk about literature for hours. He will get frustrated if the class isn't giving any feedback about the essays so make sure you participate.
I've had Dr. Hass for four classes now and wish I could take more. He's by far the best literature teacher I've ever had at Edinboro. He ties his lectures to your life so you have a better grasp of ideas. He also allows students to talk and respects their comments. The reading load is pretty heavy but if you can handle it, you won't regret it.
Pretty easy class. I took it online in the summer so we had to read a story and do a response every day. Not hard work, but if you missed any days it added up quick.
Dr. Hass is one of the most respectable professors in the English department. I've taken him for my ENGL 1100 class and he taught it very well. He gives somewhat harsh, but necessary feedback and cuts no corners. You can also talk to him about almost everything and he will respond clearly and respectfully.
Best professor i ever had.
He is a good teacher, he was always late and showed up in sweatpants. He was very nice just never answered emails. Bigger group project but made great friends!
Great Class.Though there's lots of poetry, and I mean LOTS of poetry, Dr. Hass makes the poems very interesting and understandable. He likes and respects student comments and always answers questions thoughtfully. He also records all his lectures, so if you miss a class you're not totally scresed. Would definitely take again.
This class is British Literature and he expects you to speak every day on what you read before getting to class. He provides the material so you won't have to buy anything unless you really want to, and he's a big lecturer. He will yap the while time, but it's usually interesting.
Hass is a demanding professor, but his feedback is invaluable. The textbook is used sparingly, but attending class is crucial. I found ChatGPT and unstuck study helpful for study prep - definitely saved me some time.
Good professor who cares about students. Be aware that he doesn't allow AI papers of any kind. His lectures were always interesting but he will really hammer your writing with lots of feedback.
