Lacks understand of what he is teaching.
Not very receptive to helping students.
just posts notes and reads them out he doesnt teach
Boring....doesn't know what he's at
No Comments
Just reads all class. Sometimes funny, but bring a sandwich.
Basically got me through Chem 1010, honestly don't understand the bad comments
Great Prof
People who rate him bad just don't want to understand Chem
Nice comb over jacka**!!!

Very Helpful...sometimes not so clear...But NICE GUY
Great Prof.... Extra Help if needed!!! Don't Understand bad comments??
Fair but dull, very dull
Great Prof!!!
good lecture notes.. very boring tho!.
He is willing to give you help and is an overall very good teacher.
Great Prof!! Get in his class if you can!!!
Um... didn't like him. He'd sometime pause in mid-sentence and start talking again about a whole other topic. He'd say one thing and write another. But I'm sure he knows what he's doing...
Horrible, very rude and not helpful. Didn't appreciate students asking questions or correcting his frequent calculation errors. Nobody in my class enjoyed him.
Great graduate class. A lot of material to be covered in a short time. Easy to talk to, very approachable.
he tries to teach, it just seems like he doesn't know what it is he is talking about. he actually taught us density = mass x volume.
he is a polititian, talks alot but doesnt say anything, HOLY CRAP!!! AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO SEES THIS??!! I FEEL LIKE I'M ON CRAZY PILLS!!!!!
This guy hasn't taught a regular class in like 15 years or something he told us at the beginning of the year and I totally believe it. He came in today and paused every 3 or 4 minutes (as opposed to 5-6 every other day) and said that he made up the lecture a half hour before class. Loser prof.
Easy prof and his internet notes are good. Anyone who says other wise is probably not doing any work and blaming him for their bad grades.
very good internet notes
he tries to help out, but he only confuses people more and more. he doesnt know hat hes talking about half the time (or so it seems).
If you dont think Helleur is any good than you havnt had anything other chem profs. I have had multiple and he is BY FAR the best one. Yes he pauses a little too often, but Im serious, you are a LOT better off being in his class than any other. He will even help you outside class in sessions.
you'll learn better by osmosis
As usless as they come, tho better than some I have had. He doesn't know the material and often stumbles when teaching and when doing problems is doing some that are fairly elementary, so that when it comes to the test you are pretty screwed unless you are some kind of genious!

Very good notes that he puts online. Much better than the 1010 prof I had. Makes some of the material interesting. I'm glad I was in his class
he honestly belives denisty = mass x volume
He's Very unclear and walks 10 times into the desk everyclass, he also can't do a simple oxidation/reduction problem. and rubs the board out with his HANDS!!! very irritating
you know you've got a bad prof when you run into him at the chem help centre asking for help about molar mass.
He is the worst that you can ever get! Constantly banging into desks, writing stuff wrong on the board, and he is VERY unclear. You know when there is something wrong when he claims at the first class that the reason there were so many people registered for his class was because of an error in the registration book!

He has very good notes online... it's just that he dosen't know how to TEACH them... read the notes, but don't bother to go to class. It'll just get you more confused.
Wow, I never thought someone could be so confusing. I think Dr. Helleur is a nice person. However, he tries to make jokes that aren't funny and he really doesn't know how to do the material himself...let alone teach it. I think he has too much knowledge and doesn't know how to teach the basics any more. Do not get this prof!
I did both chemistry's in high school and he taught the course like a rat.. didnt know what he was talking about.. if it was'nt for eddy vessey 70 precent of the class would of failed.. hes the worst teacher in the world !!! STAY AWAY
He is arrogant, pauses too much in class and is soooo monotone. He seems like a nice enough guy outside class, but it is actually pointless to go to his class. All he does is read his power pt. that are already on the net. Go to the tutorials and study HARD! Dont bother to aska aquestion hdoesnt know how to answer it! How is this man a chemist?
Horrible! He is competely unable to teach. Do not even bother to ask questions, he'll just make you feel stupid and won't asnwer them.
he wasn't that bad.in my class everybody hated him bc they didn't put in the work & ended up doing****ty. but he knows his stuff and is willing to give lots of help outside of class :)
Not the best prof in the world. If you dont like going to lectures where you feel like the prof has no idea what hes talking about, helleur is not ur guy. Dont bother goins to his lectures, the tutorials are the only thing worth going to. I didnt have a whole lot of trust in what he taught. My adivice: dont bother with his notes, read the book.
Prior to his class I loved and excelled at chemistry. Thanks to the man who took two weeks and pages of rambling just to explain n=m/M, I now detest the fact that I have to do MORE chem after him. My suggestion, avoid the man at all costs.
This guy sucks soo much, he doesn't know how to convey information to his students,he can't even say a full sentence without pausing for 2 sec afetr each word he says,he seems to be bored of the material...However, this course is super easy and If u know the formula's n=M/m and C=n/V u will probably get an 80.Me personally, i got 94 in this course.
I found that Dr.Helleur seemed bored with teaching the basics of Chemistry. The man DOES have a Ph.D in Analytical Chemistry, so I guess he doesn't really want to be teaching basics. But he could at least try to be helpful.
Rob isnt THAT bad. He is very helpful outside of class, and is very clear in explaining things. Personally, I'm not great at chemistry so I went to him and he was more than happy to help me out, and he cleared up alot of things for me. He may not seem to be the most optimistic and outgoing person, however, i thought he was a good prof.
DOUUCCCHHHEEEE. Helpful if you want SIX DIFFERENT answers to a prelab question...And excellent if he could only understand what he was doing...he tends to flip through slides randomly. but EXCELS in pointer usage...he must must practice at home
Okay, Helluer is being given a really bad rep here. I think that when you don't listen in his class is when you do poorly. Going into his class with these reviews in mind, I was scared to death; DON'T BE! He's a nice guy, and very helpful. My tip: (As with all lecture classes) sit up front. Sitting in the back distracts you and you don't pay listen
I thought he was horrible specially in the beginning but he isn't so bad to listen to now that the course is over half way done and we're actually getting into topics I never did in high school. He gives respect to those who go to his class and listen. (ps. and tips to what the long answer questions are, but only on fridays). The key to success: GO
TERRIBLE! really though, he makes mistakes constantly and confuses the hell out of the rest of us! 2 thumbs down for this man..
Ive never said anything bad about a prof even on evaluation sheets but hes getting a mouth full. Cant fit in tiny box. He doesnt want2teach (known from staff), it really shows. Ive heard 2much bad about him beyond teachnig. I dont like him as a person or teacher. The course isnt hard but for God sakes if u didnt do chem dont listen to him in class.
Horrible prof! You can tell that he doesn't want to teach, and that he isn't very good at it! He demands good grades, yet when you ask him for help he does nothing but make you feel worse for not understanding. If you have him and never did chemistry before, switch classes !
This is the worst prof that I ever had. Completely disrespectful. He is lost in the course and get confuse all the times. He is completely lazy too. I would suggest to avoid this course if you can. After a few years of teaching the same course he does not even have a website and give crappy handouts.
man.. this guy is actually horrible, even if i know what im doing before I go into class I become confused as soon as i listen to him he teaches as if you already know chem he gets confused a lot , his classes are USELESS. i went in with an open mind. and everyone i know in my class who i know or who sits by me agrees, hes useless
This prof makes Chem 1010 that much more confusing than what it already is for someone who has never done Chemistry before!..He is a Moron, has absolutley no interest in teaching what so ever!..I do not understand how is is still there???
Great! He's really friendly and very helpful if you take the time to ask him for help. He's approachable (not at all intimidating).
Hes a good prof you guys just used to high school teachers ... good guy, very approachable
He is a very friendly guy and seems as though he knows his chemistry very well ... HE JUST CANNOT EXPLAIN IT!!! He takes huge pauses between like every 5 words and really doesn't give very interesting lectures. He does, however, give extremely easy tests, and would try to help you if you are willing to approach him!
My advice is to avoid this prof. He seems like a nice enough man but was a terrible prof. His lecutures were boring and he made lots of mistakes on his powerpoints that he never even botherd to fix. We would review an old slide and he would stare at an old mistake that had not been corredcted yet for 10 mins before saying "oh it's a mistake".
Avoid if possible! He knows his stuff but he CANNOT teach.
This guy can't teach to save his life! Unclear and generally confusing. He would make very stupid mistakes that made things just that much harder to learn. The classes are more or less not worth it-- GO TO TUTORIALS! The tutors know what they're doing and are EXTREMELY clear and helpful, unlike this guy.
Oh my god. I thought I was the only one who sat in disbelief the entire lectures. Horrible prof, screws up everything he tries to teach, I almost feel stupid after leaving his class. What a waste of 300 bucks.
dr. helleur is very disorganized and even though he reads all his notes directly from slides he manages to always get mixed up in the examples that he works out. if you point out a mistake or a problem with an example instead of fixing it he gets flustered and moves on. don't go to class, just read his slides and study and you'll do fine. avoid him
Meh, its a good thing that i knew that material beforehand... cause this dude's lectures are not only boring, but also really uninformative.
Not a bad guy. He is interested in getting his students to do well. Proves this be adding bonus questions for thoes who go to class. Although he is VERY confusing and tends to gets mixed up during examples
he's dyslexic, so when he's trying to teach, he gets confused about what he's talking about and pauses for like 5 minutes. going to talk to him one-on-one is useful, but i dont recommend it. my advice: go to the tutorails. the tutors now what they're talking about and they're really good at explaining everything. they make a the class a lot easier
When I attended class for the first time, I wasn't sure what to think of the guy. He wasn't organized with his topics, made frequent mistakes in his examples and would pace around the room the entire class. The 1st and 2nd day was nothing but pacing. He DOES give bonus points for the final though for doing bonus problems in class.
I don't doubt he's probably a genius in the Lab, but lecturing is not his strong point. He finds himself mixed up or lost in other thought quite often. On a positive note, i do believe he has a genuine interest in seeing students do well. 1 on 1 time with him can be an adventure in itself, but he will do what he can for you.
Professor Helleur left in the middle of the term due to health reasons. Although he gets a bit flustered from time to time when he makes a mistake, he knows his stuff when you see him in his office. I aslo liked how he gave bonus points towards the final exam!!! Compared to his temporary replacement, he is a bit more exciting.
I get lost in his eyes. swoon !
I try to avoid class whenever possible. He's a great guy, and super friendly but not a good prof. He just reads off his slides (which are good notes), and does examples. He gets confused all the time by his own notes.
This guy isn't to bad. He has his up's and down's but don't we all. I agree he is disorganized and get's missed up alot but he want's everyone to do will. Tutor's are very helpful but I rather go to Helleur lectures.
Great guy but I didn't learn anything from him. I learned the whole course from the tutorials and by doing the assignments.
Loved this guy! I admit his lectures were sometimes a bit confusing, and the tutors helped a lot, but during final time I had a lot of questions and so I went to his office and he sat down with me and clearly went through every problem and made sure i understood. Very helpful guy! Easy to ask questions, doesn't make you feel stupid. Tests easy
Dr. Helleur was a pretty good prof. He sometimes got lost in what he was working on, and will sometimes say things that don't make sense, but one-on-one, he's good to talk to and knows what he teaches. Attend all the lectures, but also attend the tutorials because that'll help you more than you can imagine.
I'm surprised his rating is so low. Good man, understands that the majority of the class are not majoring in chem, he even revised grading one of the midterms(went from x/50 to x/43) so everyones marks drastically improved. -- Clear, concise lectures, even though no one went aha.
Dr Helleur is sincerely a nice man, however he often struggles to explain the concepts in chemistry 1011. As long as you go to all the tutorials (the best with Barry!) and labs and you do all the online assignments, you will be great! I got an A in this class and maybe went to a total of 20 lectures with Dr. Helleur.
Not a good prof at all! keeps getting the wrong answers for questions and always has to back track. He also starts talking about random things which has nothing to do with Chemistry, it' so difficult not to fall asleep in class :(
Good prof very straight forward wen teaching. A little on the awkward side but that's what keeps it interesting
I'm also suprised that this rating is so low! I'm in his class but I attend the other slot as well and compared to Hattenhauer his lectures are excelllentttt. Very straight forward and to the point. He's also great if you have a question after class
Seems like a nice guy, but lectures are very boring and he often gets confused or off track. Ended up missing classes and studying on my own.
My favourite prof! Such a sweet man and keeps lectures interesting with mini experiments and demonstrations. Gives great online notes and very clear in class. Definitely recommend him!
Genuinely nice man however, has difficulty teaching the material. He often gets confused and pauses for a long time. Avoid if you don't have a background in chem. Tests were very easy but gave me a sense of false hope for the final. Came out of the class with an A.He can be pretty funny sometimes, let's you go early on Fridays and gives out prizes
Mr. Helleur was well prepared for class and was very enthusiastic!! He was approachable, helpful, and kind. I think he does an excellent job!!
Horrible
The man is just unintelligent. I don't understand how he got his PhD, he thinks he has 6 fingers on his hands. He doesn't know chemistry and if it's your first time taking a chem course I really, really do not recommend this prof.
Lectures were absolutely dreadful. Course material generally pretty easy. The tutorials are where all the learning was done, the TA's were very helpful. Lectures very dull and slow paced.
Awesome! Super nice guy!!
Excellent layed-back style
While Helleur is a really nice guy, I found his course really difficult. He obviously knows his stuff but doesn't communicate it affectively. Even having missed very few classes, I found myself having to self-teach before tests because I didn't grasp what was said in class.
Not good at all at explaining and goes way too quick in class. He also never used the microphone so it was hard to hear him. Make sure you go to the tutorials they count for marks. I had to get extra help from other profs. Labs are super easy.
