was a pretty hard lab, he was not very helpful sometimes. A so-so kinda class.
This guy was rediculous. If you asked a question about the lab, he looked at you like you were the BIGGEST idiot in the world. He made me feel pretty uncomfortable. He never really offered help either.
This guy is burned out and obviously no one at Lakeland has figured it out. He doesn't seem to enjoy teaching and I would say he is TRYING to fail you. Take Kling and save yourself!
He was an alright teacher. I can honestly say that I learned something though. True, he challenges you and expects you to do work on ur own, but overall, it was a decent class. Just make sure you are ready to work hard, after all college isn't supposed to be easy.
If possible avoid Henderson. He is so uptide and does not have any respect for the students. Tests are difficult and totally off.He expects a lot from w/o giving you anything.
DON"T take this guy unless you have to. He's unbelievable. He made me feel soo stupid and I'm a 4.0 student.

Expects alot from his students but is willing to help those students who are really trying. I think he is a great teacher!
Henderson was really tough - but I'm now realizing that he really was a GOOD teacher. Thoroughly explained things & tested from his handouts (DO THOSE!). Beware the Kinetics test in 1600, though (KNOW THOSE HANDOUTS). Best way to get through to him: be respectful & interested. Didn't like the tests (multiple choice is a-j), but he really is good.
Henderson was a tough but great teacher. He is very helpful and really puts in a lot of time in order to make it easier for the students. You don't really need a book for this class, just study the HANDOUTS! Go to the review session if he offers one, very helpful. The subject is hard, but he does a very good job at making it easier.
This teacher is a total hippie. His speech is hard to understand and his class is unorganized. He makes everything so difficult and confusing! Only later, when I study on my own I remember that I had known this subject all along.
most horrible teacher I have had in 5 years of college!! DOnt take him if you dont have to!!

Most difficult class I have ever taken. He speaks to his students as if we are 5 years old. He disregards questions asking during class as if we are dumb for asking. Embarrasses students during class if they do not understand a subject. Tests are unfair and does not provide adequate information to study to for the exams. Do not take him!
He is an incredibly smart man but I don't think he is a good teacher at all. A bit of a narcissist that goes over into tests. The examples and problems you do on his handouts are all fairly easy to understand but then on tests the questions are entirely different and most of the time MUCH more difficult. He's demeaning and disrespectful.
dont ask questions or he will make you feel like an idiot infront of the class and not answer your question. we left class on time the 1st week after that always 10 min. over, once leaving 30 min. over. he takes lab time to lecture another hour. you can tell he doesnt want to teach, i dont understand why he still does. =[
Dr. Bob is an excellent teacher: crystal clear about his expectations, tells you EXACTLY what you need to do to succeed, and his tests follow his handouts closely, so KNOW THEM inside and out. I hated the multiple choice test, there were too many choices (6-8!). The subject is hard but he makes it as easy as it can ever get. The book is good
I will honestly say the first few weeks in Dr. Henderson's class scared me. People talk about how horrible of a person he may seem to be, but heck he knows his stuff. You can blame the instructor for not helping as much as you want, however teaching can only take you so far.. at one point or another you have to learn to work on your own. I felt he
Henderson knows what he's talking about and what he wants from the class. He expects a decent understanding of the material prior to class, reading the book is good for that. He doesn't accept late homework, or answer questions that have been answered in the lecture, so pay attention. Be polite and friendly to him and he will reciprocate.
Professor Henderson moves at a very fast pace. He gives a minimum of 3 handouts per class which he uses as notes for the next class. He rarely stops to explain. On top of that he assigns text reading and questions which are not gone over. Tests are 2 5+ page packets. Expects everything casually mentioned to be remembered.
Yes, Dr. Henderson knows what he is talking about, but he's not the best teacher. He spends the entire lecture staring at the board, so you get a great view of his back. He never answers questions that students have. The class is also very repetitive, you go over the same concept three or four times, when it is not necessary. Great guy poor teacher
Good, knowledgable prof. Assigns a good amound of homework, butr is not collected for grade. only thing that really counts towards grade is the tests and quizzes
Does not answer questions well at all. Only looks at the board the entire class, to very helpful. I recommend not taking his class.
He treated this intro class like a 300lvl class at MIT. The tests were way over the top, seemed to enjoy watching the students suffer. He was concieted and dissrespectful.
Don't even think about taking this teacher and learning anything. He doesn't help. As of right, he's offering extra bonus like crazy because my WHOLE class is failing. He talks to the board, and does not work with the lab teacher. Long story short, don't take him.
Awful, just awful! Dr. Henderson NEVER looks at the class and only teaches the board! He is not helpful in anyway! He also isn't co-teaching with the lab instructor! In lab were always behind. His tests are horrible. Long story short drop this class ASAP and find another teacher.
This teacher is the worst teacher I have ever had.He teaches this class as if the room is full of experienced chemists(its elementry chemistry for nonchemistry majors)If you ask a question all he does is make you feel stupid & dumb. Tests are not over anything he teaches are long and insanely hard.Run!Run if you get him. The tutor was more helpful.
Not a very good instructor. Poor time management, old antiquated teaching techniques. Disrespectful and defensive. Doesn't answer questions. Test are very difficult. Doesn't return tests/quizzes promptly or review them. He should not be teaching. Take anybody else but him.
One of the worst teachers at lcc choose another teacher it will be much better
If you have him as your professor drop right now. Terrible professor. He was so bad i had my Anatomy professor tutor me in chemistry and he did a better job
He has not responded to any of my emails and i have sent him 5 so far. He is lazy and blames students for anything he does wrong. He is arrogant and angry. He tries very hard to make students miss assignments by assigning them through a third party website that he claims is not required for the course, but he will not help you. he should be fired.
He yells at and belittles any one who asks a question. His test questions are manipulated to confuse students to ensure they "know the material". He does not teach but expects you to learn from the confusing text book written for experienced chem students. I am a dean's list student and would have received an F if I remained in his class.
He talks to the board during the entire lecture. He knows his stuff and would rarely if ever make a mistake; everything he says is with purpose. Textbook reading is assigned but not graded and he covers everything in class. He teaches well but I doubt anyone has ever been inspired or enjoyed his class. Cold, efficient robo-professor.
He should not be a teacher. His face is always to the board and never looks out into the class to keep anyone involved. He moves very slowly in lecture, making it difficult to stay awake. If this is your first chemistry class (this was not my first) I would not recommend him because he is confusing and hard to follow. Try a different professor.
he is very good at picking words and purveying ideas. he is very difficult but you will leave the class with good experience. you need to work your ass off but helps you learn. I got an A in his class by studying every day
Someone asked him a question and he angrily* answered with "I don't know how else to explain it." So that should tell you something. He gives so many handouts that it's difficult to stay organized, and the chapters don't go in order so it's even harder. He faces the board and rambles all class. He moves fast and acts like we're all chemists.
Warning: DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. He's very disrespectful, and talks down to you for asking a question. He constantly reiterates things that are easy, but gives one example on something difficult. If you get all the answers right but not the way he shows, he takes points off. You also only get a workbook, which does nothing to help you learn.
I have this professor right now. He is honestly the worst teacher I have ever had. He talks to the board, doesn't answer questions (even ignores you when you raise your hand), and teaches very very slow so you just wanna sleep. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He even gives you like 3 handouts to do right after you take an exam who does that!?
Absolutely horrible, if you have the chance take a class with any other instructor, do. He is extremely arrogant and does not offer any real help with students. He expects you to know all the information without teaching it. When questions came up he just brushed them off and told us to find answers elsewhere. Incredible confusing.
Do not take this prof. I was taking this class as a prereq to further my degree. He is not helpful, and seems to like to watch his class suffer. He taught this elementary chem class like we were all going to be chemists. If I had the intention of going into chem as a major, I would not now. Does not help the class hold interest in material.
Henderson does not hold your hand, it is your responsibility to read the material and practice, practice, practice. He is not the choice instructor if you have other things going on and cannot study the material and do the exercises. His office hours are clean cut, and will help you and very few questions, if any went unanswered. Knows his stuff.
This professor is incompetent at teaching. He speaks to the board and refuses to answer any ?? during lecture. He does NOT coordinate with the lab instructor. The first quiz was 5-6 weeks in w/ the first exam at 7 weeks. The exams are 8-12 pages long that are about 80% equations. The book, was useless. It's not taught as an entry level course.
its a shame that they have him teaching. he is a nice man but he teaches over your head and doesn't take the time to help you if your struggling. he makes you feel like your stupid
He isn't mean or rude, he's just really(!!) boring. He has always been willing to answer questions in class and has given extra credit or make-up opportunities when things seemed "off." Online homework is a joke, though-- hard! Reading the book is pointless, takes everything from handouts, which are similar to test questions. Just stay awake!
I did ok in this class, but it was definitely the hardest class I've ever taken. Lots of studying and if you miss a class good luck. Professor is really boring and gets mad when people ask questions. Don't take this professor if possible
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Hardest class I've ever taken. It's week 10 and we've had only one exam which took forever to get feedback. Unless you are already proficient in chemistry you will struggle. He does not explain things well and his tests are ridiculously difficult. The online homework is very difficult as well and worth little points.
He knows his stuff, but is not the most effective at communicating. Lectures are hard to follow. Sloppy handwriting and no PP's. He lectures; doesn't really teach if you know what I mean. TONS of work in the textbook and online homework that is worth few points. Dr. Thomas subbed while he was out and it was the most we had learned all semester
Really hard professor doesnt know how to teach and all his tests are different from lectures. Wouldnt reccomend taking him for chem. Save your time
I had a really tough time in his class. He's more or less glued to the whiteboard and doesn't explain the subject at hand very well. He's very scrutinous when grading and don't even bother with the online homework he assigns. Each day he will also hand out 2-3 packets of paper and expects everybody to know what to do without explaining it himself.
Would absolutely not recommend extremely difficult. Does not explain concepts and simply works problems on the board that are very difficult to follow along with or understand. He is smart just not a good teacher. He is also very short and derogatory if you ask a question. In addition the tests are over 12 pages long and grading is inconsistent.
The hardest teacher Ive ever had. Tests are 10+ pages long. Gives 4+ handouts each class. If you ask his to explain something again, he wont, or will say we already went over it. Very smart, just doesnt teach well. Treats the class as if everyone is majoring in chemistry. I would highly recommend not taking this class with him if you can.
I took his elementary chem to help get my degree a little sooner. We had a 5 point homework assignment that not everyone did good on and ended up making himself sound like he was calling the entire class stupid for not being perfect. If you want a professor that will help you when you're struggling DO NOT take his class.
Class required for my bachelors. Smart guy, but difficult despite being high school level. Am normally an A student, but really struggled. Lots of handouts and memorization required. Doesnt post grades frequently and tests are long and worded tricky to see if you know the material. Study a lot and do all the handout problems!
Good luck if you have a question to ask in class. He will get upset and rude if you ask something and is known to do the same in other classes. He would face the wall and write chicken scratch on the board to where you could hardly read it. Filled a 2.5" binder with his handouts. I had to self teach myself from handouts b/c lecture was useless.
Buy an accordion folder and reserve a tutor as soon as you can. He's bar-none the worst professor I've ever had the displeasure of having for class. Refused to tell us our grades, or how they would be weighted. teaches to the board. gives more handouts than sanity. of a class of thirty only 6 didn't drop and of those three passed.
Opened the first class by addressing a common issue on his previous student's feedback sheets and immediately saying that they just didn't understand his teaching style. I should've left while I could. I pride myself on being smart, but this class caused me to second guess my intelligence. Horrible, horrible teacher. Don't waste your time.
Henderson explains things very vaguely and out of order. He gets physically angry if you dont understand something the first time and ask too many questions. (My class stopped asking questions after he lost his patients with one student) He grades every little thing so be prepared to memorize everything in the universe, otherwise F
Attendance is required but his lectures are basically useless. His writing is illegible most of the time. The only way I learned anything was from myself. He's heavily dependent on you remembering everything from your high school class (It's a prereq for this class). He seemed to view asking questions as a disturbance so my class was quiet.
He is probably one of the worst teachers at Lakeland. He's horrible communication, has terrible handwriting, puts no grades into BB, and, to me, very rude. Put it this way, if you don't understand something and need help, don't waste your time to contact him. He takes days and sometimes weeks to respond. I only learned because I did it on my own.
Class is okay if you keep up with the work. Dr. Henderson is knowledgable and willing to answer questions. I found him funny and engaging.
If you have to take this class try your hardest to avoid this professor! Takes weeks to a month to grade assignments, very rude and demeaning when giving feedback, and overall a strict grader. Very knowledgeable in the subject but shows not everyone should be a teacher.
very slow grader, online class and in person class are the same, same bad teaching, can't really learn anything with his black room teaching, i cant see anything, the class is over 7 days now, and i still don't know what is my final grade.
worst teacher i have ever had. usually a-b student but compltely struggled in this class. professor marks you down points if you give the correct answer but not in the same format he would have chosen. take another professor if possible
Probably a great guy in-person but frankly abhorrent online. No academic calendar in the syllabus, no clear expectations of students, no idea when assignments or quizzes will pop up, and he seems technologically illiterate. Gives very slow but very detailed lectures, so it's likely that anyone can absorb the information. Don't take him online.
Please avoid taking the professor! Very long-winded in lectures, gives more information than is needed. Talks in a monotone voice. Does a great job at making a challenging class harder. He seems very intelligent just I think he forgets its Elementary Chem and a lot of students don't remember what he's teaching
I hate to leave such a negative review but this class has been the bane of my semester. Whereas all of my other classes tell us exactly what assignments/quizzes/tests will be due and when, Professor Henderson seemingly flies by the seat of his pants. We never know when he's going to drop things on us out of the blue. Horribly stressful. Avoid!
His online video lectures are a pain because the webcam quality is very poor and his mic is so quiet I have to turn my volume all the way up just to barely be able to hear him. As others have stated, the pacing of this class is all over the place, and as someone who also has a job and a family, the lack of a class schedule is rather inconsiderate.
This class has absolutely SUCKED so far. This guy takes ages to talk very simply about concepts and you see problems on homework assignments and quizzes that are WAY harder than anything gone over in lectures. He told us at the beginning that he'll be uploading on Mon/Thurs but he's uploaded TONS over just this past weekend! TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
Not sure what the other reviews are about, this guy is alright. He does upload video lectures and assignments pretty randomly and it's fair to be frustrated by that, but I double-speed through them and the content isn't very challenging at all assuming you're at least a little familiar with the concepts that you likely learned in high school.
lost faith in this guy after he uploaded an awful 2 hour lecture at 10pm about something i learned in 15 mins from youtube instead. if you take this prof you can safely ignore literally everything and just use the internet/youtube to save yourself loads of time and energy. his lectures go all over the place and are unorganized. book is unnecessary.
You have to play his videos at 2x speed to finish the units. quality of the videos seems like they are somewhere between 144p and 240p! Very slow very poor quality. Btw this is the first I've ever made a review for a professor. He looks like cool guy though. He just need to be more professional.
Wow, please disregard many of the other negative reviews. Professor Henderson is a very smart and gentle man and it about breaks my heart to see what others are saying about him. Yes, his video quality could be better. Yes, his schedule could be more organized. This is not difficult content, though! Just do the work and it's an easy A!
His class structure and teaching are not good. His video lectures are very long and he posts multiple in one day. He takes FOREVER to grade things too. Once you submit something, wait about 3-4 weeks before expecting a grade. Don't take him if you don't have to. The textbook is not helpful, most things he teaches aren't even in the book.
I am struggling in his online class and hes hard to follow most of the time. I had to get a tutor for his class and still cant pass. Homework sometimes has things we never learned. Hes intelligent, but its Chem 1100. We have to take the class and not a lot of us can keep up. No schedule in the syllabus. Please avoid him.
He always gave assignments that helped you learn the material. His lectures are very slow, so I sped them up, but they always helped me understand what we were learning and he was helpful through email if you had a question. I didn't find the material to be difficult and the tests/ homework were easy if you watched the lectures and did the homework
These reviews make me sad! He isn't a bad professor, the material is easy to understand if you pay attention and do all the work. Yes, he has slow lectures with poor video quality but you can see it just fine and can speed up the video. He was always available for help, but graded slow. Overall, I think he was a good professor I never had issues.
I'm sorry, but this professor may have been the worst I've ever had. I was already familiar with most of the content taught in this class from having taken chemistry in high school, and if it wasn't already familiar, I can't imagine I would've learned very well from this class. Not very intuitive. Final exam took 3 hours to complete. Heavy load.
Most of class was review for me since I took chemistry in high school. The workload is very reasonable but its pretty hard to catch up if you get behind. There was a online homework assignment every few weeks. His midterm was over the first few chapters we learned and his final was over the last few chapters we learned. He seems pretty chill.
Not a good teacher.
He does not respond to emails until weeks later. Do not expect a quick email if you are having issues. Doesn't really have helpful lectures and they are extremely difficult to get through as they are multiple hours long. Tough grader and doesn't grade things until weeks later. I have never gotten below an A in any class except for this one.
This professor is the worst I have had. Hardly responds to emails, does not grade on time so you dont get to track your progress unfortunately. Took him forever to grade and when he did it was to show what grade we had. If you have the chance to take a different professor please do.
This Professor does not reply to mails on time neither does he grade on time. You will be unable to track your progress on where you need to. Its gonna more Likely affect your gpa . Avoid him!
Very very slow at responding if he even responds at all. I could only take the online class and learning was hard because I've never taken a chem class before.
Dr. Henderson was completely unorganized. I took CHEM 1100 online and he would give us worksheets to print out that we never ended up using. I would not take another class with him due to the fact that I had no idea what my final grade was going to be until he sent them out.
I am taking both lectures and labs online during the summer semester. Professor Henderson is very disorganized and doesn't communicate at all. He also doesn't put in grades until the end of the semester. The workload is extremely heavy and difficult! I would not recommend this to anyone who anyone especially if you work a lot.
One of the worst prof. I've had. His lectures are over 1.5 hours long and most of it contains rambling with nothing to do with what we need to know. He does not offer you a syllabus with dates. He sends emails with assignments that are due 1-2 days in advance. You have very little time to complete your assignments by the time you get them. Terrible
I was surprised to see Henderson's low rating, I personally loved his lecture videos even though I did watch them in 2X speed. He shows that he cares about the subject and practices an abundance of practice problems to ensure comprehension. The assignments are pretty easy and his lectures comes across as a sweet old man and reminds me of Dr. Pierce
I don't believe Dr. Henderson was nearly as bad as some of these reviews make him out to be. Though, his recorded lectures did not do very much to help me personally understand the concepts. Labs were graded very slowly. The class was difficult, but if you put the time in it's not that bad. Dr. Henderson was very nice though
He's nice but the lectures are really long, repetitive, and boring. He will not grade most of the labs until the end of the course and it is impossible to know your overall grade because of how slowly graded things are. I would recommend taking this class in person especially if you haven't taken chemistry before.
He shouldn't be allowed to teach an online class. He has almost no grasp of how computers and Blackboard works. His Blackboard is very cluttered and you never know what assignments are coming up. We didn't find out about our midterms/finals until two days before they were due. He rambles about nothing for up to 2 hours in lectures. Not worth it.
Prof's course was lecture heavy because he rarely uses the textbook and reviews gotchas. He assigns lots of homework. Take notes, do the homework (graded and ungraded), and you will pass. It's true he's a late grader. But his exams are hard to fail because they're worth an absurd amount of points and he allows multiple re-tries on graded homework.
