AWESOME Professor!!!!

Although his jokes are lame, he finds them funny and that is what is so great. Hes a very good person, and really cares for the well being of the students. He wants everyone to participate and have fun learning math. Hessel is a great guy!!!

Best math professor i have ever had. Only time since 5th grade that i got better than a C in math. Ended up with an A and did not have to take the final.

Professor Hessel has a passion for teaching Mathematics and is always available after class for addional help. He is a dedicated professional and is one of the most caring professor you will meet at RVC. You will enjoy his classes.

Bob Hessel is a great teacher. I've always hated math with a fiery passion, but Mr. Hessel made it so much more bearable and clear than any math teacher I had before. If you have a math phobia and want a cure, take Hessel!

Hessel is awesome! He is always smiling, and very helpful. Tests aren't bad, no homework, and makes notes ready for you in a booklet. I am already considering taking him for future classes. He's the best, take his classes.

After 14 years, Mr Hessel reminded me why Math was my favorite subject. His tests are easy if you take good notes. He explains everything thoroughly and makes sure everyone understands the material. You definitely want to take his class if you need math.

This guy is awesome!!! If you get a chance take him. You wont' be disappointed. It is also impossible to fail his class since his style of teaching makes it so easy (unless you are a drooling vegatable or you never show up for class)

I've had several math classes, and Hessel is by far the best professor; if you're taking a math class, definitely try to get in his class. He goes WAY out of his way to make sure that every student passes & understands the material. He even makes his own notebooks w/examples & steps on how to do each problem. Makes math easy & enjoyable!

I took his class for statistics, he was very clear of what he wanted and NEVER put anything he did not go over in class on the test. Everything he reviewed he would tell us if we needed to know. He is a good teacher, but make sure you do the homework! not cause he grades it but just for you own well being! Great Teacher though, I recommend.

Super cool guy. Fun and friendly. Easy to understand even for confusing subject matter. He gave us summaries of the upcoming sections that helped study for the tests. Probably the best instructor I've ever had at RVC.

He was a great teacher! I'm not very good with math and I was able to breeze through this class with all of his instruction. He explains things very well and I loved his notebook that he hands out for notes. Was a very reasonable and pleasant teacher. Would definately recommend his classes!

He was a very nice teacher he had 3 projects and I got 100% on all of them. Obviously those were easy. I liked his notebook so he wouldn't have to use the textbook. Let us have notes when we took a test so that made it a little easier. If you ever want to take a math class I think he is the math teacher that you should take.

The best math teacher you could possibly ask for. He provides a notebook that is easy to follow and makes everything crystal clear. If you ask, he will go way out of his way to help. Encouraged questions and never moved too fast. Study guides follow the tests very well, and homework and attendance do not affect your grade. Very willing to help.

hessel is really nice and lays everything flat out for you chrystal clear, but all the notes are given to you as well as the study guides first day of class. Which for some is good, but not for me bc Im definately more of a visual learner. I wouldve passed the class no problem, but I wanted a better grade, and he does go out of his way.

If you don't get math, make sure you come to class and make the effort to ask him for help or you'll get lost. He's nice enough to provide a book w/all the notes and study guides he'll ever use! But definitely keep up with the class.

He is the most wonderful teacher I have had at RVC!I was worried at first since it had been so long since having math but he makes it really easy.he gives you a study guide that is basically the test if you can do the study guide then the test will be a breeze!Also perfect attendance means NO final or drop lowest test grade if you do want to takeit

I had never got an A in math before until I took Hessel. He is very clear, teaching style is great. Gives you examples for every possible type of question and his workbook that you use instead of a textbook is fantastic. I confess to stinking at math. Just because someone loves a topic doesn't mean they can teach but this guy really can.

Every great thing you read here is very very true! He makes everything very clear. If you don't understand ASK, he won't give up till you do!

I took him for College Algebra and he was awesome. He gives you a workbook to take notes in so you do not have to buy the textbook. Also, there are study guides and accompanying keys in the back of the workbook which reflect the tests almost exactly. He breaks everything down for the class and is a very fair grader.

I hated math with a passion prior to taking his classes. He breaks it down so you can understand and is patient. He allows time to work on problems in class so you can ask for help if you need it. Wish they had more teachers like him!

Mr. H is the best math teacher ever! He may be the best professor period at RVC. I love him, I hate math, and he makes it very easy for me to understand. No expensive textbook. All homework is online. Study guides for tests are almost to the T of what will be on the actual exam. I will never take math with another professor ever again!

Love the workbook. His exam study guide is exactly what you need to do if you want to do well on the test. Very approachable, laid back style, and understands that not every one loves math.

Mr. Hessel has come in to teach my Calc 1 class a few times when my regular prof., Mr. Herget has been away from RVC. He is great, too! Note packets are perfect to learn from. Lectures connect to people. Again, like Herget, he makes math seem so easy.

Hessel is a GREAT teacher! He gives you a notebook of all of the things he will go over. His tests are super easy. I had to drop out of stats before cause the teacher sucked and did not explain anything. But Hessel rocks! If you need stats, TAKE HIM!!!!

Best calc teacher. He's made his own notebook that he gives everyone that organizes the class examples he uses and makes studying and notetaking a hundred times easier. The day after he finishes teaching a section he takes questions on the homework and then it's (usually) due the next day. He never makes you feel stupid. Definitely would take again

Doesn't make you get a text book. Gives you a work book you do not have to pay for. Makes jokes and the tests are not heavily weighted. Awesome teacher. Loved him

I am not a Math person and have had several prof at RVC. Hessel was AMAZING, no text, study guides are dead on, also have labs, dvds, and homework( with plenty of time to complete) to help if your not a good test taker. Have told many people to take him and they all loved him. You can tell he truly loves teaching :)

This was a GREAT experience! He was an amazing stats teacher! Straight forward to the point and includes study guides chapter by chapter and even a final exam review day with study guide!!

Listened to all of the reviews on here and decided to take him since I hate math and have always had awful experiences. So glad I did! First math class where I've gotten a high grade. He loves teaching and will go over ANYTHING you are having trouble with from a math problem to test anxiety. Almost gives off a father figure/helpful uncle vibe.

3 Exams and a final. There are MyMathLab sections due every weekend over the sections you cover during the week. He is a very helpful teacher and will help you if you don't understand something. He gives you a textbook/notebook for your in class notes so you don't have to buy a textbook.

Bob Hessel was one of the best math teachers I ever had! Assignments aren't bad: three tests and homework. He gives you his own text book in which you work on the problems. He even provides study guides for each chapter. If you complete the study guides, you should do well on the test. I would recommend him to anyone. You won't regret it.

I highly recommend Mr. Hessel. i took him in math 115 and math 120 and i wish i can take him in all the math classes that are required for my major but he does't teach math 211 :(. He was really confident about what he was saying and very clear, very helpful, and his tests were all from his study guide.

Grade is 80% tests, 20% HW. Offers EC sometimes. He gives you a notebook that's SUPER HELPFUL. HW is harder than tests, but DO IT, not just for the grade but for the practice. If you can do the HW easily, you will ace the tests. He WANTS to help, just ask. 8AM class, he brought doughnuts sometimes. No attendance, but GO TO CLASS for help.

Took the summer Statistics course, Hessel is a lifesaver. The course is not easy I could have easily gotten lost with any other teacher but he leads you to the land of understanding. He is clear and his study guide is incredible helpful. If you are short on money don't buy the book, he has really great notesbooklet with study guide!

I was honestly convinced every math teacher in the world was inherently awful before taking this class. He's clear, doesn't go too fast, really smart, very friendly. He made us workbooks so we didn't have to buy textbooks. We get two tries on online quizzes! Wonderful teacher. I only rated him lower on easiness because I hate math.

Mr Hessel is an amazing teacher. I hate math, but had to take a math class and I am so thankful I picked him. He gives real life situations and usually has some funny story to go with what you're learning about. He writes his own book and hands them out the first day of class for FREE. He does reviews and hands out study guides before every test.

His expectations are very clear and he is very thorough in his lectures. He reviews problems at the beginning of every class and also sets aside a whole day to review for each exam. If you pay attention in class, you shouldn't have trouble passing.

Great professor at RVC. I believe he sets his students up for success and doesn't try to trick them. He gives study guides which are very similar to the test. If you do well on those you'll be fine! His orange notebook he gives out is very well put together. I barely used my textbook but it's great for extra help.

One of the best teachers at Rock Valley! He helps you understand a topic that can be very confusing. He is absolutely hilarious and makes you enjoy coming to a math class. I would hands down take him again!

He's a great, teacher and I definitely would take him again. Attendance isn't graded for this class, but I would highly recommend attending any review days for tests, because he gives really helpful pointers and explains things a little more clearly. Four exams plus online quizzes at the end of each chapter

Amazing math professor! If you go to class, he tells you everything you need to know. He will do any problems you struggle with until you understand it. For MTH 220, he gave the class a workbook which contained all the ppt slides he used, examples of problems done in class, and exam study guides. Instead of struggling to take notes, you can learn!

Prof Hessel sincerely cares. He will do problems until the whole class has understood the material. Very nice guy and so unintentionally funny. Definitely don't miss class- his explanations sincerely help. I didn't use the textbook but he gives optional hw in which he will go over with the class the following day.

Professor Hessel is the best math teacher ever! He has his own compiled booklet and it is easy to understand, his lectures are clear and as long as you practice with his practice problems you will do fine on the exams, homework is on eagle and easy as long as you have read the chapter. Hands down the best teacher at Rock Valley, and every teacher there is a clown other than him, if every teacher taught like him it would be a breeze to learn. One of the most helpful thing was a bound book with all the powerpoints and study guides in it, very easy to take notes. You do have to study though to get a good grade, it's still math.

He is the Bob Ross of Math. He provides an orange booklet that is more valuable than the actual textbook. If you follow along in class, his exams are really straightforward. Great professor

Great professor. If you suck at math, take him. There are a total of 3 tests and a cumulative final. He gives out an orange booklet with all lecture powerpoint slides. Homework is not mandatory. I never did it and still passed. Attendance does count for a grade! He always answers any questions and explains things very clearly. Highly recommend him

Prof. Hessel is hands down one of the best teachers at Rock Valley. He makes sure everybody understands the criteria before moving on and answers every question. He gives you a notebook on the first day with the the notes printed for the entire semester! 3 major tests and a multiple choice final. If you need help with math I highly reccomend him.

Hessel is one of the best math professors I've had! Very caring and very willing to help you understand everything. Exams can be tricky but most are multiple choice and are just like the online quizzes.

Definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had. He made everything clear from the beginning what we were supposed to do and taught all the information very well. The homework wasn't hard if you paid attention in class and you only had one assignment to do every week.

Very good math teacher. You will never be caught off guard, as he will always tell you what you need to know and where it will apply. He was always willing to help in and outside of class. Tests are worth the majority of your grade so studying is definitely required, but the rest of the work is easy.

Hessel is easily the best professor I've ever had, such a happy guy. Lectures are the best, he works through example problems on the board and is amazing at answering questions. Tests aren't hard if you use his provided study guides and all homework is done on MyMathLab, which he lets you redo as many times as you want so that you can get 100%.

I never took stats in high school so I didn't really know what to expect when it came to difficulty but this was probably one of the easiest math classes I've ever taken. He really helps you understand the material and he provides all of the notes plus study guides in a workbook on the first day of class which was extremely helpful!

I never liked math but Hessel is hands down the best math professor I have had. 3 exams and the final exam is multiple choice. Provides notes for the whole semester that includes study guide in back which are very helpful. He also drops two of the lowest homework. He wants you to succeed and pass.

Hessel is a great teacher, he makes statistics seem easy, but the tests is pretty tough. Homework is fairly simple. Remember, statistics is easier for some people and tougher for others. Hessel does a great job explaining everything.

I loved having Mr. Hessel for my stats class. He gives a workbook at the beginning of the semester that is really helpful. It has all the PowerPoint slides in there, practice problems and study guides. He is really helpful and clear on what you need. My tips: 1. Try and you'll do fine. 2. You can use a $15 book for your practice problems.

Tests were easy if you pay attention and did the quizzes. I got the textbook that was recommended, but never opened it. He assigned homework that was in the textbook, but was not graded or looked at. Really nice and helps answer all of your questions.

An amazing professor, if you are planning to take calculus. He doesn't teach 120 as a college algebra but rather as a preparation or pre-calc class. He is so caring and funny, well-liked amount his students. But be prepared to really work for a good grade.

He made sure you understood the lecture and to make sure you know how to properly use the calculator when needed. Highly recommend.

Dr. Hessel is the best professor you could ever get for math related work. He goes out of his way to print every student their own workbook to follow along with his lecture slides and makes everything super easy to follow and understand.

He explains things pretty well and the tests aren't too bad. You get two tries on all the online homework and as long as you show up to class and take notes you'll do fine. He's pretty chill overall.

By far the best professor at RVC. You will not be disappointed with him as a teacher because he is extremely thorough with his lectures, very patient, and all he asks of you is to participate and ask questions, or he will assume you know it all. He also is unintentionally a funny person. On a scale of 5, I'd rate him a 10.

He gives you study guides for each exam, and all the tests are very similar to the study guides. There's online homework for every chapter but you have 2 chances at the questions. Attendance isn't graded, but recommended. He's super funny and outgoing in class. He kind of looks like Ross from Friends, which brought me a sense of comfort.

I struggled with this class just because Im really bad at math! But the professor was accommodating. I would recommend. I skipped class a handful of times but you can easily access the lectures online and all homework is online. You will need your calculator every day and dont lose your workbook!

Professor Hessel was a very straight forward teacher and I enjoyed him. He creates workbooks for each student to follow along with his lectures and they were extremely helpful. His lectures are a little boring but stats is a boring subject.

I took Hessel in fall 2019, he was the best professor ever. He cared for his students & was always available to help you with any work. Very approachable & made math easy to understand. He always liked to crack jokes & made the class easy for you. I would recommend 100% to take his class!

Professor Hessel is a great teacher, makes math more clear and straightforward. As long as you take notes and do the online quizzes for stats, then the class will be pretty easy. He also gives extra credit, so no worries.

Prof Hessel is an awesome lecturer and is very clear with the information. When we went online, he offered different ways of learning the material. As long as you use the resources you are given in his class, you'll be fine! This is the first math class I've ever taken where I've ended up with an A and it's all thanks to Prof Hessel!

Very organized and caring. There was a power outage during my final and he was super understanding and allowed me to continue. No textbook needed, but you have to buy the MyMathLab acess code. His lectures are helpful and the MyMathLab assignments weren't as bad as I thought they would be. His study guide for the final was identical to the exam.

Robert is an excellent and very nice professor! I do feel as though the class was on the more difficult side, but if you do your homework and study you should be able to make it through. Before covid, his office was open and he was more than willing to help with any questions.

Math is a really difficult subject for me, but I would choose him for any math class! He explains things very well, shows you how to do new things on the calculator that previously some students may not have done, and is VERY well organized! We got a notebook with all the semester's slideshows on it to make it easier to do the work without copying

I had already had a good background in math so the class was easy for me, but he did a very good job explaining new concepts. It was really easy to ask questions in class and he showed us new tips on how to use our calculators. He also gave us work books so we didn't have to copy down each slides and he told us exactly what would be on the test.

This class was great. If you are taking statistics this is the professor to take it with. Its straightforward. Lectures, homework assignments about once a week and tests about every month. He offers one EC assignment. Take notes on the lectures, do the online lessons and utilize the study guides for the tests and this class will be a breeze.

This class was very well organized on a week-by-week basis. Overall, Prof. Hessel was a good professor to have for a relatively challenging class.

Professor Hessel was very cool, this was my second semester with him. Textbook recommended if you want to do the optional practice problems, but other than that you won't touch it. Exams are easy if you do the study guides. 4 exams. The final is multiple choice, one back and front note sheet allowed to use on the final. Definitely take his class!!

Extremely organized, incredibly organized! Though the course material can be difficult, he explains everything well and has everything thought out. Such a smoothly set up course.
