Hobbs is so cool. although the workload is so heavy, i enjoyed it cuz really learned a lot of stuff and skills. the 6 credit class is like an 8 credit class cuz we've got project, special problem, formal lab, informal lab, exams and homework due.
Great teacher, Highly recommended. workload is very high. You'll be in for a lot of work if you're taking calculus plus another course at the same time!
Its a tough class but i wouldnt want any other teacher.
Very knowledgeable in Physics, and many people like him and have benefited from him. Some people however dont like the workload and become pressured and screw up their quarter just coz of physics. Makes us realize that there is nothing more important other than physics.eat, drink, sleep, live physics
Very hot and an amazing teacher. Knows everything about physics. Best at one on one explanations with students. Good with due dates for labs and special problems
Brilliant. Way too hard! Don't take for 123! Has a "Physics 'Culminating Project'" which should be its own separate class. Others don't. Some grading preferences for cute girls, but doesn't take points off for being male/not hot. Helpful, lots of office hours. But the project is HARD. Pray!
Great instructor! His tests cover everythings he said in the lecture and may be a little bit too tought. The only thing keep bothering me is that you mostly know nothing about you grade until the quarter is finished.Strongly recommended for people who consider Physics as a major.
Great teacher and a good guy. But go to office hours and do extra work, so you get on his good side. It helps, I got all A's

Class is very hard, or at least takes a lot of time. Don't attempt unless you plan on setting aside 2 hours a day for HW, labs, and studying. He makes physics interesting, very accomadating if u go to office hours.
Good teacher. Very willing to help. Goes off on tangents sometimes but they usually end up interesting. Go to class/lab and do homework problems and this class shouldn't be too difficult
He is the most unorgnized teacher I have ever seen. Now, It's final exam and I have no idea what to study. I wouldn't take with this teacher unless I had too much time, so I could study everything with my self.Hobbs makes you intereasted in physics, but it doesn't help you to pass the course. Taking a class with Hobbs=screwing your GPA. God knows i
He is my favorite teacher for sure. I learned so much from him. Me and bunch of my friends who were in his physics class are now in the UW enginnering program and we feel that we are so prepared by Hobbs. Without him, we are probably like those people in the class who still doesnt know the difference between capacitor and inductor. great teacher!
Stay away from this teacher if you care about your transcript
He was my greatest physics teacher ever! helped people to be motivated, interested, and involved in physics a lot. I know somehow his teaching might've given others hard time, but for some others who are thinking of physics major, he is the best choice at least in BCC.
Definently the most knowledgeable of the physics instructors. I took 121,123 with him, but i took 122 with a different teacher. Hobbs still helped me in 122 A LOT! VERY HELPFUL! i even asked him about math problems now and again. i feel very well prepared for classes I will take in the future. ONE CATCH- he has a final project.. not too bad though.
Good prof, but way, way too much homework. The work load makes class something you dread. That's hard to achieve considering I don't mind busting my butt, I like physics, and I'm good at it! If I had the time to actually stop, contemplate, & absorb the material, I could learn it far better with none of the heartache.
He is a really intelligent teacher. As great as he is I felt that I didn't get much out his lectures unless he did in class group work which was like twice. Test average is about 55 out 100. If you try HARD an B is expected for sure. He is also a hard person to get a hold off to ask questions but really helpful once caught.
Smart guy, funny, goofy, eccentric, entertaining. Explains general concepts well. HOWEVER, his tests are VERY hard - 60 students (both sections) had class mean scores in the 50's-60's every time. Only 1-2 people would get 80's or 90's on the exams.
Professor Hobbs is the definately the ideal teacher. He is charismatic, eccentric, and effictively presents Physics Principals. His exams are unparalleled in difficulty, but he will curve the grades at the end. Basically, don't let the exam scores dictate your success, check with everyone else and make a judgement of where you are. Great Teacher!
Might be the hardest teacher. with the hardest test!!!! First test only 3 people got higher then a 50.
Mr. Hobbs is an excellent instructor. He has a fundamental understanding of the topic and is really passionate about the subject. Labs are well conducted. Only downsides are slow and harsh grading (not extreme) and short deadlines. For someone who has any interest in physics, Mr. Hobbs is outstanding. I learned so much! Would definitely take again!
he thinks he is teaching Ph.D students in MIT. this is the last time i'm taking physics class with him. too much work for a simple course. i could get an A grade with another teacher but knowi must look forward for a C or something worse. this course grade gonna drop my 3.9 GPA to 3.0
Professor Hobbs is easily my favorite teacher at BCC. He is brilliant, funny, eccentric and will go above and beyond to help you if you need it. Physics can be challenging, but if you put in the effort, you will learn so much from him. He truly cares about his students. Hobbs is a great teacher and a wonderful guy.
This teacher is INCREDIBLY tough, probably the toughest teacher on campus! No one scores about the 60s on his tests, and the average grade is a D+!
This teacher is a total jerk! He says he writes in clear English but the questions on his tests no one understands. Everyone struggles in his class, even if they are an expert in Physics.
This class is not well organized. It seems to be more concerned with "group dynamics" than with learning physics. I may not stay in this class. It is too hard trying to get the lazy people in my group to do the simple HW problems - prof won't let the rest of the group just do the work the lazy ones are not doing, so our group work is incomplete.
I took all three qtrs of Physics with Hobbs and it was a delight, and couldn't be happier w/ my grades from him, but I'm also a science major. If you're a science major, take him, if you're an english major, and hate math and science you're probably not going to like the class.
Robert Hobbs is HARD. Hobbs' class is the first ever science or math class I might get below a B. I answered a question CORRECTLY on a test, showing my work, and he gave me 9/16 points saying "you didn't derive the equations you used"! (I was using the escape speed equation which is well-known) IF YOU CARE ABOUT GPA, TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!
It's a tough call with Hobbs. He is an amazing teacher and cares about the grades of all of his students, but as you may have noticed, the work load is insurmountable. You will walk away from this class with more knowledge of physics than you could have received with any other teacher, but your grade will not reflect that.
One of the worst classes you will ever have, if you are taking an intro to physics class DO NOT TAKE IT WITH THIS PROF. The amount of work you do is not worth it, he DOES NOT know how to teach in any sort of way. If you care about your grade dont take him ever! One of the worst careless profs i have ever seen.
If you have a physics mind then this is the guy for you but if you are taking this class as a prerequisite then I would suggest going to someone else. He is very confusing and doesn't understand that the students who don't get physics don't understand him. HARD tests.
Heavy work load for an intro class. His website he uses is disorganized. Lectures don't correlate with what you are learning because he is teaching you how to understand his website or explaining why he doesn't give you instructions for assignments. He does understand the material and is very excited about it, but he can't teach it.Test average:60%
He's a VERY disorganized teacher. You barely get any of your papers back. u never know how ur doing in class. lectures r totally useless. He makes the simplest things the most complicated. This class took as much work as three classes combined. Although tets r not that hard, he grades ridiculouly hard. Although I love physics, I hated this class.
Professor Hobbs is a really nice guy and really seems to enjoy physics, however he is so excited about it he doesn't teach it very well. His lectures don't follow the book or pertain to the investigations he assigns. It's painful watching him try to explain things and watching everyone just get more and more confused. His website is awful.
Although Mr Hobbs seems to a nice man, he is not a teacher of much. He tries to get a class average on his tests at 60% and does this with trick questions and wasted time. If you can avoid this class... do so.
He has a great enthusiasm for teaching physics, and a lot of cool tools to use, but his disorganization makes this class super frustrating. You're also forced to work in groups outside of class, and if you get a bunch of slackers like I did, it really makes you hate the class. Needs to assign specific problems and have clearer expectations.
He knows physics incredibly well and he's really helpful outside of class. However, his group assignments and class lectures are ridiculously hard to understand. My group and I spent so much time on our investigations, and we really didn't learn much either. His lectures are also hard to decipher. But he's a cool guy.
Awesome professor! Take him if you want to learn physics. Not hard to get an A considering the fact his A's are in the 80's.
GREAT teacher, he grades exams and labs pretty hard. Moderate amount of online homework, more in the textbook (along with group work req.), he's also reliable and has good office hours. FAST paced course, especially labs.
He does not announce any due dates in class, then posts them on his site the day before assignments are due. Unreasonably short turnaround times for assignments.
Mr. hobbs is a nice person but he is not helpful in class and never hands back assingments. He posts things the day before they are due and expects groups to have had ample time to get them done. He assignes three investigations the week before the finals. He has to many toys so watch out. He is late to class and keeps the class past class time.
If I can pull a "B", anyone can. BUT, there is a ridiculous amount of work involved in this class, including 11 team projects with team mates assigned. You will work VERY hard in this class, and will never know how you are doing because nothing ever gets handed back. The tests are very tricky, but it is possible to do poor on the tests and pass
wow, incredibly tough teacher with a weird sense of humor as well. Gave 3 assignments due at end of quarter to go along with finals. His tests are incredibly tough (class avg on test 1 was in the 30's out of 100). Insane amount of work required in the class. By far the most demanding class I have taken in college, yet same return as in others.
Dr. Hobbs appears strict and demanding but is in fact understanding and relatable. If you show progress (or just do well enough), he'll secretly bump your grades substantially (or ignore deductions to your grades, such as missed homeworks). He's not the easiest instructor at BC (you'd want Sara for that), but he does provide the insight for Physics
(also took 123) Hobbs is def my favorite professor. He's a fantastic lecturer and you have such an amazing understanding of the fundamentals. However, he's extremely demanding with what he wants from you and your grade will not reflect how much you've learned. Even if you fail exams, do ALL the work and you might pull a B or A-.
Terrible! The class meets only 3 times a week He never does practice problems He makes us have group investigations every week and its difficult to meet with members and do group lab work every week OUTSIDE OF CLASS He never goes over homework practice problems or hand back any labs or homework His test have nothing to do with his lectures
The worst teacher i have ever seen.Do not take any class with him.
Excellent teacher: knows the subject remarkable well and is extremely good at explaining all of the concepts from multiple angles. He will also teach you not just physics, but how professionals do science with his rigorous labs. That being said, EXTREMELY difficult teacher; he will work you to death. Don't expect a good grade.
Mr.Hobbs is extremely good at physics. If you ask him in the office hour, he will be enthusiastic explaining your problems. The problem is he doesnt explain much in school. Thereby taking good use of office hour
Provides conceptual lectures and expects you to learn the math on your own. Very friendly and approachable. The amount of work required will give you stress fits, but that is good preparation for life. Be very strong in algebra and trig, with knowledge of calc. website needs improvement. Use office hours and OL resources. you will learn a ton. good
He is a hard grader? True! But I havent had anyone explaining physics so well!! His class is a lot of work, there are 3 types of homework, one weekly and 2 that happen 2-3 times in the whole quarter. He is very helpful 1to1 and I personally enjoyed his class
Average exam scores were in the 50's and below with no curve. At least two homework assignments and a formal lab due per week. Massive emphasis on labs and conceptual learning, virtually no problems done in class. LITERALLY no graded work returned throughout the entire quarter other than the exams. Avoid Hobbs at all costs.
This class was very stressful and challenging. Having a SOLID understanding of 114/115 is required, because he does not give feedback on assignments. He's helpful and clear outside of class, though was usually late for class which made office hours mandatory to even stay current in class. If you're a guru at physics, you can attempt this class.
Something that should be mentioned in the course descriptions online, he REQUIRES you to dedicate additional 4 hours per week outside of class time to group work. It is like an additional class commitment. That should be disclosed upfront. He doesn't respect your time, but demands you respect his.
Hobbs is a really nice guy and you do some cool experiments, but he is a lousy teacher. The homework levels are ridiculous, confusing, and time consuming. He is very unorganized and his personal website is incredibly hard to navigate. I have a 40% in the class and I've never got below a B:( Don't take Hobbs...
He has no labs but requires you to work with a team to get projects done. For only 5 credits! Instructions are not clear at all, and he copies and paste from previous quarters so due dates are all messed up. You never know how you did on homework, weird grading helped me get a okay grade but an obstacle course to get through the quarter.
I'm told that Hobbs is the sole instructor for all physics courses in BC, but whether he is or not doesn't avoid the fact that his classes are poor-structured. I don't know about higher lvl physics he teaches, but the very basic intro course was upsetting. Lectures are fine, but no feedback for hw. Time-wasting group meetings & hard tests. RIP $$.
Professor Hobbs is a bit eccentric, but his eccentricities are not without purpose. His grading system is arcane, but fair. His class requires a lot of multitasking. Expect and get used to it early, and you will have a much better time in his class. He takes a personal interest in the material and in his students, and is always willing to help.
Hard professor, but enjoyable. If you do all the work but don't do great on tests, you'll most likely still pass. To get a good grade expect to dedicate time equal to all your other classes.
Physics is just a hard subject to learn. Physics in general is so different than the way we regularly think so it seems more difficult. That being said, Hobbs has all the qualities of a good teacher but this class is just insane. He gives so much homework, random assignments, capstone project work, and tests are worth 45% of your grade.
Hobbs is one of my favorite teachers ever. I had PHYS122 & 123 at the same time with him. His teaching style is effective, maybe a little eccentric, and the lectures are enthusiastic and interesting. You have to work in his classes, but he was kind, caring and wanted to help each of his students succeed. One on one tutoring in his office was great.
Kind man but all over the place. Does not teach the stuff for the course.
Such a strange class format, half (at the least) of the class time is lecture, whats left is barely enough to get through experiments. Bought a textbook that we never needed to read--not even once. He uses his own website which he says he prefers over Canvas but the color coding is confusing + it took quite awhile before the site started working.
Homework is on topics he never discusses. I wasn't aware I paid for a class that would be 90% self taught.
Physics 123 was by far the hardest class I took at BC. I was lucky to have Professor Hobbs, however. He is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, a vital resource to consider if you want to do well in the class. Despite the amount of work required in class, he makes the learning fun and, if you take him, believe me you will learn your physics.
Website is way more confusing than it needs to be... would be great if he could use canvas but I perhaps because it is a physics class everything needs to be complicated. He is a very nice guy and his enthusiasm towards the material is awesome! but it you are only in this class for a credit it is quite the chore. Class tends to be very boring.
he is a nice guy but do not take this class you will learn nothing and feel like you did so much busy work!!!
This professor touched my heart and was profound and passionate towards his content. It was the only class I was motivated to go too out of all my courses. Instead of conforming to a consensus made by professors, the main objective of his lessons was to follow in famous scientists footsteps, and form your own consensus.
He teaches the class in an atypical way where you learn through conducting experiments rather than being told what something should do and testing for it. He has you record what you see happening, then there is a class discussion to figure out why. He is very passionate about this subject and a very interesting guy to talk to.
I do not like the homework, there is too much of it and some of it you will have no idea what you should be doing. What happens in class may not have a lot to do with the homework. It's common on Friday at the end of class for him to have us stop what we are doing to quickly do something so he can give you homework on that.
As many others have previously stated, Hobbs is your man should you be after a solid foundation in physics. He may sometimes appear unorganized, but that is likely a bi-product of being a slightly mad scientist. He is excellent with office hours and in fact factors that in to your physics quarter itinerary. Go to them.
First off, Hobbs is a nice man who is great one on one. That is where the good ends. This is by far the most stressful course I have ever taken. The workload is insane (10-20 assignments due each week), his tests are difficult (no curve, average 50%), and his lectures/class time are poorly used. I cannot recommend anyonbody take this prof.
Prof. Hobbs is a nice guy, but work load of the class is outrageous. A good student takes about 3 hours every night to get all the hw done. Lectures don't help with the test and expect to be reading the textbook a lot. One on one is the only time that Hobbs is an effective teacher. I came out of the class more confused than understanding physics.
Hobbs is a great teacher if you really want to understand things. He's good at explaining the "why" and making you think about stuff. But yeah, the work load is insane. Mostly graded for participation, but it's impossible to keep up with all the asssignments. I actually really liked the tests, but he does grade harshly. Not enough practice probs.
Horrible. He expects you to be a physicist in a 100 class. He isn't organized. I am only 3 weeks into this quarter and he already assigned 6 things due for one day. Prior to that he had 4 things due, in which 2 he didn't even remember assigning. He then said the assignment was done wrong, even though it clearly stated the instructions. Don't bother
Taught myself. Wasted my money. There's a difference in teaching students and getting the concepts to stick with them versus expecting a 0hysics class for ENGINEERS to be conceptual physicists. He tests you on things he hasnt taught yet, because he is slow at teaching. Yet wants you to read the next chapter.
Doesn't keep track of his own class assignments, and it is too hard for students to keep track of. Since the dates are all messed up on HIS OWN CUSTOM website. He doesn't utilize Canvas. If he does, it's for reading quizzes that he doesn't even post but expects you to do?? The amount of work he expects is outrageous.
If you are out to learn Hobbs is a great teacher, but for a score he simply doesn't communicate enough to match the level of difficulty. He is the only prof at BC iv'e had that doesn't post your grade on canvas, instead waiting to the end of the quarter for your score. This combined with the prof never communicating makes this a bad experience.
Doesn't use canvas like most professors at the college. Instead uses his own website which is difficult to navigate. Based on the website alone, I often had no ideas when assignments were due. The workload is insane and the information is often redundant.
worst professor I've ever had. Incredibly unorganized and uses his own website instead of canvas which is a giant mess and he randomly updates it whenever he wants. It's full of broken links and impossible to know when things are due. He assigns 4-8 homework assignments every week on top of weekly quizes and formal labs. DO NOT TAKE!
His homework instructions are so unclear. It makes you feel like you have the reading comprehension of George Bush. He refuses to use canvas and has his own website to post updates, which you will not care about, canvas really is much more convenient. It's like a husband and wife relationship. You love him, but you also hate him.
Please, for the sake of your sanity, don't take Hobbs. Never in my life have I struggled so hard in a class. I physically do not understand anything he says, he is all over the place. You won't know if you're failing until final grades get pulled. Does not answer emails. Very egotistical. He thinks class averaging 60% on tests is normal. Just no.
After taking this course I feel like I have learned nothing. His class time he spends rambling on and goes overtime frequently. The way that he explains assignments is long winded and all over the place, it's on canvas and his other website. He set up group projects with groups that often cannot find a meeting time. Overall, it is very scattered.
Horrible course. Very unorganized, blames students / his other courses and rarely takes responsibility for his own faults. Doesn't put anything into gradebook so you have no idea where you stand in the class. No study guides, class lectures are rarely useful for exams. Uses his own website which is hard to navigate over canvas. Condescending.
This instructor was horribly unprepared. Rarely returns Grades. Has unreasonable and unrealistic expectations. Assignments are thrown together. Exams barely resemble assignments and in class work. Hasn't taught a class since 2014. Barely uses Canvas. Uses a book to "Teach" but no points help. Be ready to pray you passed this terrible class. BAD.
RUN! You will regret taking a class with him. Your grade will regret it too. The first test scores had a median grade of 32/100, high was 50/100, low was 8/100. The students in this class are trying to get into some highly competitive science programs, 4.0 type-A students here. People are writing letters to the dean. Could write A LOT more. RUN!
He’s a good human being but this man cannot teach. He’s intelligent, it’s clear that he is but again he CANNOT teach. He is unprepared for class. Does not grade hw and won’t give it back. Doesn’t use canvas so you never know what your grade is. Test are extremely hard. Hard grader. My entire class failed the first exam. Do not take him.
Poorly prepared to teach. Wrote own lab manual and notebook =[. Gives absolutely no support for homework, lecture does not cover homework in any way. NO technology skills. Doesn't use Canvas- made his own website that took over 1 hour of lecture over 2-3 days explaining how to use. Long useless tangents in lecture. 2/3 students dropped. Is rude.
He uses his own website so you don't know where to find your homework because it isn't laid out well. He puts you in front of the class and doesn't care if you are scared he will blame you. This guy was so hard that I had to drop my other courses just to do this guy's work, and those were an easy course that was going to help me graduate.
This guy is bad at homework. He uses his own website, and require you to look for the HW there, and there are a lot of exam and labs(which are almost every day) and you can't miss any. He upload hw at the last minute, I remember doing 6 pages of hw, and refreshing another additional 4 assignments that were due the next day.
Going to his office hours would be helpful if he wouldn't rant for hours while in them. He's a really smart guy, genuinely, but he cares more about creating these "perfect" physicists rather than his student's success which makes him a genius scientist, but not a very good teacher. Imagine the worst workload ever, times it by 30. Save yourself.
if you show up, speak up when you can, ask questions, show that you're learning- it makes a big difference in grading, due in large part to participation. heavy workload, but you'll likely take things from his class. he'll make time to meet if you're lost. writes his own workbooks, doesn't really do canvas, he just wants you to do science.
Please do not take him. He uses his own grading system instead of canvas and doesn't give you your grade until the last day of the quarter, when it's too late to do anything about it. You're paying tuition to be blue balled for 3 months straight. Homework instructions make no sense. Class made me feel like I had the mental aptitude of Joe Biden.
Don't take this class. last week of the quarter and he still hasn't posted grades. he assigns mandatory groups to do every assignment with. my entire group dropped the class after the first test, so I do all group projects on my own, even after asking to be put in another group. also makes rules without telling anyone and expects people to know.
It is difficult and tiring, but it will be the most valuable class in BC. He will give you an idea of what a college course should be like. I have been anxious about my GPA throughout this quarter, but at the same time I have to admit that Dr. Hobbs is the best professor in BC. As for physics lovers, don't hesitate to choose.
You will be challenged by this class. The workload is big (expect to sacrifice most of your free time) and the grading was often frustrating. If you don't show up you won't do well. Dr. Hobbs is a good teacher and you will learn a good deal and succeed if you dedicate yourself to the class.
Do not recommend taking this class at all, overload of HW with no feedback if what you're doing is even right at all. Low grades on the first test and nobody and I mean absolutely no one passed, the exam had nothing to do with what we learned and somehow had the audacity to blame us for failing. If you are a beginner, do not take this teacher.
Don't take this class. The class is incredibly slow moving and low level. This would be fine, but the professor doesn't treat this class as being low level at all. The tests are so heavily scrutinized that absolutely no one passed, and the highest grade was a 50/100. The class is extremely confusingly set up, and the teacher doesn't use canvas.
He's a nice guy, but this class is absolutely terrible. Tests are insanely hard (average ~50/100), and homework and labs are vague and confusing. The workload is way too heavy—expect to sacrifice weekends and holidays. I had 4 classes and I spent more than half of my time in this. I got A's in all my other classes but am only hoping for a B+ here.
Unfathomable amount of work, only take this class if you want to suffer. The class did not pass the first test, the highest was an F, I managed to escape the class last minute. Do not take this class by ANY means, it'll blow your GPA to smithereens.
Highest grade on the first test was 50%. The class is structured in such a way that you cannot prepare. Prof was surprised by what had happened, but reading the reviews here this is clearly not the first time. Two hour classes could have been covered in 20 minutes. Also he makes you buy his textbook and workbook that he wrote in 1999 for $60.
Unnecessary use of class time, doesn't explain very well. Lack of structure. Most common score was for exam 1 was 19% ish. Teacher provided no study guide, no one knew what the answers were supposed to look like. Asked students for feedback then rejected everything they said. If you take this class your GPA will drop and you'll be up all night.
Professor Hobbs' class is a real challenge, but tools like Unstuck AI and the free textbook can help you get through it. Attend lectures, avoid distractions, and you might just pull off a decent grade.
All you need to do is show up almost every day, do the work, and ask if you'll be late—he allows late work. Don't fall too far behind. Work with friends and ask him questions. Bad test score? Don't worry—keep going, show you want to learn. Bump! You'll get at least a B+ at the end, even if you didn't do well on two tests (out of four total).
Do you love physics more than your GPA? Cons: disorganized, very harsh grader, doesn't enter grades until end. If you work a lot of hours, take more than three classes, or dont like phys: avoid. Pros: Builds intuition, engaging, hands-on, knowledgeable, values effort. Good connection if phys major. If you're the right student, it's worth it. GL! :)
Your mind will be a ticking bomb from the amount of work he gives you. This guy give some much work on the first day, he make his class more important then all other courses, he expects you to drop everything else to focus on him. An even if you are he will make you think he always right, your always wrong, and take your person thing for himself.
He waited until after the quarter ended to grade the majority of work. Always disorganized and when he fell behind on his schedule he assigned multiple lab reports due the same day as the final (Normal reports are given a week timeline, he gave 3 reports due in a single week). His feedback on exams and reports is lacking, with little information.
Lenient with most assignments but not his Tailored Personal HW. Exams=Hard. Lots of conceptual problems that look to see your understanding of the material. Not very partial points friendly like other professors. Grades based on improvement+participation to help boost your grade but the amount of hrs put in to get a good grade is just bizarre.
CONS: A HARSH/PICKY grader, HECTIC schedule, only takes PHYSICAL copies for assignment submissions, numerous HOURS of work expected to pass, no REVIEW/STUDY GUIDES for EXAMS, a very SLOW grader. PRO'S: Knowledgeable of the material, build hands on experience, takes late work but not TPs, accessible outside of class, provides good lectures/feedback.
Hobbs was the best professor I've ever had; I've had him for PHYS121-123 (I got an A in later classes don't worry). I recommend him to those who want to understand and are passionate about physics, his class will take a lot of effort and free time, well worth it though. His grading is forgiving, don't worry about the 60% you get on exams and stuff.
His exam, assignments, hw are no where related to each other. He makes up lies about students. No partial creidt allowed. Lots of groups and individuals work, uncoordinated, out dated material, group assign bad, doesn't care about other courses that may conflict in with hslis he will blame/put you on the spot for no focus on him. Dont take him!!!
This guy is serious messed up, he think he always right. And blame his student for asking questions generally. Dont bring up anything personal, he will try to get into your personal. Test dont match what he explain they only match his lab, which afe outdated and unorganized. He racist, biased on religion beliefs, really discriminated, an confusing.
Not in his class, but I hate the textbooks he makes for the physics series. So confusing
When he says he is available outside of class, what he really means is that he's going to sit in the same room as you and ignore you for most of the one hour that he has and help everyone else that show up for calculus/another physics class. When he says you can follow him to his office he gets annoyed when you ask him questions because he's busy.
Homework is problems from the textbook, expect to self-study a lot. He didn't know how to fix the online portion of the homework, which contributes to your homework grade. Grades aren't on Canvas; you don't know your grade until the end of the quarter. He expects hard copies of everything; lectures are confusing, and take forever to grade.
VERY INCOMPETENT in conceptual teaching. Only reason I am doing well is because I learned mechanics in high school. Doesn't release grades until the end of the quarter. Canvas structure is VERY sloppy and unorganized. Almost as if he doesn't know how to use Canvas. You are basically self studying mechanics in his class, whilst doing rigorous labs.
Hobbs is the goat!!! Definitely a lot of work but he is a professor who wants you to master the subject.
