SOC 2: Social Problems. Only 3 hwk assignments that take no more than an hour a piece and 4 test of 35-45 questions.
He's a great professor who makes the subject interesting and is does well with getting the class involved in discussions. Recommend.
His lectures can be pretty boring sometimes if you're not extremely interested in psych. he doesn't really have notes for you to take down during class, so reading the chapters for the tests is the only way you can do well. reading response papers are easy points too
He's a great professor! His lectures are clear and interesting. If you take good notes, you won't even have to open the textbook. He gives you study guides with the topics that will be on the exams. They really help and the exams are already really easy. Easy A! He has a kinda dorky sense of humor, but it's great.
He is one of my favorite professors. He is really funny and interesting. The homework is really easy. He gives study guides for everything that will be on the test.
4 exams, 1 group project, and an article response (1 page double-spaced) due almost every week via Blackboard. The class is very fair. I agree with one of the posters that he has a dorky sense of humor, but yes "it's great". He's a very nice guy. Laidback, but not in a you're-on-your-own way. He wants you to pass. Take him! Not a bad class at all.
You learn a lot from this Professor and he is really easy. All you have to do is a group presentation (not bad at all and I hate presentations-seriously), a weekly reading response is due, and when it comes to the exams he dedicates a full class to review the study guide in case anyone has any questions! Plus extra credit. Best professor at IVC.
Loved this class! He is very fair and gives enough extra credit for you to earn enough points for an A. I sill can't believe I had enough points for an A that I didn't have to take the final. Also, he uses his funny dry sense of humor and examples that makes this class enjoyable. I learned a lot! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Easy, easy, easy class. Take for easy A
He is awesome! His lectures are very interesting. He has a dry sense of humor. He allows you to drop your lowest exam or if you have an A, you can skip the final. He also makes you do a norm breaking project which is fun! Loved his class!
His lectures were filled with his dry humor & nerdy ways. Most of the time it was easy to follow, but other days I'd be trying very hard not to fall asleep. I would recommend doing the Reading Responses, they're really easy. Also, speak up in class!
Awkward and boring teacher. Turned in all of my reading responses and got A's & B's on my test but ended up getting a B in the class. Don't like his style of teaching. Very unorganized.
Does get boring at times but concepts are very interesting. He makes you think
I took soc1 over the summer.i recommend to read the textbook. I get A's for all my reading response papers. I got A for midterm n I'm not sure what I got for finally. However, I have A for this class. Class is ok although sometimes get boring. He will make you think sometimes which I like it. Soc1 is interesting and he is really nice guy. Recommend
Very nice teacher although lectures are kind of boring. Easy class to pass if you do all of the reading responses and study.
Awesome teacher. His classes are engaging and enjoyable. He gives you a lot of freedom with assigned projects and his tests are straight from the book.
He is a very nice teacher and the class is easy as well, however, his lectures are very boring and that probably has something to do with his monotone voice. The weekly article responses are free and easy points and the exams are easy if you study hard and do the study guide. He drops the lowest exam as well.
he is a looker, and super blunt but very charming and funny. really laid back, nd chill dude.
mainly a lecture class, shows videos too, class is kind of boring unless you're interested in the topic, homework assignments are easy
Awesome professor! Comes off as having a dry sense of humor, but if you are smart enough, you can see what he really thinks. His jokes are hilarious. Easy assignments, very laid back. Engages the class to participate in discussions which are interesting at most times. Overall, best professor to have.
Do not take this course online. Professor Hollenbaugh does not know how to use blackboard efficiently. He is unclear with his assignments. Takes forever to respond to e-mail. There were about 5 quizzes worth 3 pts. and 2 page papers due weekly. Pointless.
Great Professor! He is a funny guy. Homework almost every week, so if your not a good test taker you can just make it up by doing the homework and coming to class. He's tests are REALLY hard though, but gives you a study guide.
I took this class online and I it was really easy. He has 2 page papers due weekly and mini quizzes throughout the end of the semester. His quizzes and tests are not the easiest but they are not that difficult either. Overall, this class is a lot of work, but he is a pretty easy grader in the end.
I took 2 of his classes. He may get boring at times but I stilled learned a lot. Not too much homework is given. Nobody used the textbook so I would say you don't really need to purchase one.
Great SOC Professor!! He's enthusiastic and very knowledgable...engages you..good sense of humor. Makes himself understood...clarifies information. Very fair.Gives extra credit. Just attend class, write good notes and do assignments. Read text prior to class. Some text info is on exams that he does not cover in lectures. GET TEXT!
When it came to my final grade, I ended up getting a B, which upset me due to the fact that I was 0.03% just a three mere points away from an A. I emailed him detailing all of my triumphs in the class and he emailed me back that he couldn't change the grade. That to me just sounded like a lazy response. Their called unofficial grades for a reason!
Professor Hollenbaugh is very knowledgable in his field. He gave out about 4 extra crdit assignments when I was attending the class and his quizzes were fair and whatnot. Overall, just read the textbook, take good notes, and pay close attention to the letures, you'll do great. He's extremely chill and nice. Would totally recommend him to everyone.
Boring class, many readings and reading responses. But if you do all the reading responses and study his PPT, it's an easy A.
I found this class to be interesting. He is kind of a dork, but he is likable. I don't think he knew a single persons name all semester, but it didn't matter he was very nice and helpful. I would recommend taking this class. As long as you show up and do every reading response and any extra credit you will get an A
Dry humor like everyone says. Would be more interesting if I didn't come in at 8am. Super easy, don't bother with the book. Just take good notes on the PPT and make sure you understand the general concepts of the online readings. Gives lots of easy online quizzes that bump your grade up. Easy A/B class.
Professor H. is a quirky teacher. Thought he was funny and interesting at first. Throughout the semester I felt as though there weren't enough assignments or exams to improve my overall grade. His notes are sparse and his exam questions are vague. Not worth taking his class to end the semester with a B. I wouldn't recommend him.
Super nice and easy going guy. He knows his material and is very approachable if you have questions. He has a sense of humor which comes in handy in a three hour class!! Take him!
Easy B. Hard A. Theres only two test, one midterm and one final. No homework and attendance is for points, its not mandatory but recommended. He was very funny the first few days but then got incredibly boring. He was also nice enough to let people take the online quizzes after the due date.
Great course. like any other course, you cant simply not show up and expect to get an A. Great course material, and topics. I took this course after soc 101, and it made a lot of sense. I loved the material, and the side stories :)
Fantastic sense of humor. Easy class. Textbook is unnecessary so long as you take good notes in class (some things he says off of the powerpoint are important to note as well). The class can be boring at times. Specifically sought out this teacher for a second class because he's adorable (and good at teaching, too, I 'spose). :P
Prof. Hollenbaugh has a dry sense of humor. As long as you take good notes from his powerpoint, you won't need the textbook. Pretty straight forward class. I say take his class!
Professor Hollenbaugh is definitely worth taking. Like many others have said, his class lectures do tend to drag on after a while. He assigns 8 mandatory online quizzes, 15 article readings, 13 chapter readings, and two exams (midterm and final. It may sound like a lot but as long as you do the reading, this class is a piece of cake.
not an easy A..take some other class. He's extremely boring, takes attendance, online quizzes are 3 questions and 15 pts so if you miss one thats 5 pts off and the class total is 500pts therefore you can only miss 50pts to get an A. plus you have to think about how he only has one midterm and one final all multiple choices(4pts each).
Fun professor. Has a sarcastic demeanor about life that makes the classroom environment relaxed. 6 online quizzes, 2 exams (both 50 m/c questions), and 1 "positive" project that you have to give a 5 minute presentation for. Do yourself a favor and do the readings, they are very informative and help you get a better understanding of your experiences
If you have potential and major in sociology, you wont be easily graded. He is outgoing, flexible with new topics, sarcastic, interesting and can be challenging.(if you go to office hours and are a sociology major) He is usually available, never condescending, always excited to teach, and is very like-able.
Dont skip class. Take good notes and be attentive in lecture. Ask questions if confused; he is more than happy to help you out. Quizes online only a few questions based on notesreading (really easy). Midterm and final both easy if you study notesstudy guide, skim the book, & study articles. He is really nice. Would highly recommend for easy A.
Prof Hollenbaugh is a hilarious guy. I loved his pessimistic and dark sense of humor that lightened up the lecture and kept us awake. He'll answer any questions you have and really help you understand the material. Tests aren't too difficult but you'll need to study hard to get an A. Also fill out the study guide he gives EC points for them
If you don't go to class you will miss a lot of information. There aren't any assignments or homeworkngiven outside of class so either you do well on the midterm, quizzes, and final OR you won't do well! His lectures are kind of monotone and long. not good for an early AM class, you'll fall asleep. Overall he is a nice and respectable teacher.
This is my second time taking this class I kept dropping out. He is funny as hell but in a smart nerdy way. He is really mellow, down to Earth, cracks jokes, and makes class fun. I actually like him as a person and as a teacher. Take notes, don't be on your phone or talking to classmates he frowns upon that. attendance is lax but be respectful
Great professor, knows what he is talking about. You should read supplemental readings they are weighted more on tests. Show up to class and you should understand what he is talking about. Willing to help and wants students to do well. Lectures can be boring, but he adds his own personal experiences and stories to liven up the class.
I failed sociology first time I took it and took it with him and got an A he has a midterm and a final which are both pretty straight forward and gives you study guides before that resemble the tests. The only thing is if you start doing bad in the start of the class you'll have a really hard time bringing your grade up. not many assignments. take.
He's an alright professor, won't really go out of his way to teach you. Sociology is a very broad subject. He basically teaches off the power points. Attend class because you will miss out on information if you don't. Final and midterms aren't easy. STUDY!
Laid back & funny guy, loves to crack jokes throughout the class but dont let that fool you- gotta put in the work and time for a good grade. Exam materials are based on power point outlines, additional reading assignments, and lectures (you will miss alot of valuable info if you skip class).
Such a great professor! Prof. Hollenbaugh is so funny and entertaining, I would highly recommend him.
Amazing professor! Very fun class! You don't feel like you are listening to a lecture but rather you feel like you are having a discussion. Love the fact that he shows us Frontlines videos! Very interesting! Will be there for you in case you are not convinced with his grading!!! Totally recommend!
Good Professor easy online quizzes that help your grade. tests and final were okay if you study. Should be able to pass with an A or B.
I had him for an 8am class. He was so witty, and funny that i went almost every class. He knows what hes talking about, and always answers questions you have. He really is great, AND HYSTERICAL!!! Take himm!
Kept lectures interesting with his dark humor. Made me laugh and teachers rarely accomplish that. There are two exams and about 14 short timed blackboard quizzes. Very easy class if you pay attention in lecture and study his powerpoints. I rarely opened the textbook because I didn't find it necessary. Overall, very easy A if you put the work in.
Hollenbaugh is a intelligent and friendly professor. Lectures are interesting and tests are very fair. Even though it was a 3 hour class lectures flew by and class was usually let out a bit early. Would take again.
Seriously one of thee BEST professors at IVC! I didn't expect to like this class, but Professor Hollenbaugh made this class very enjoyable. He is extremely funny and is always there to help. He gives out study guides which are very similar to the tests and can be filled out for extra credit. Pretty straightforward. Take this class!!!
I had to review Mr Hollenbaugh. He's an excellent teacher that made the class really enjoyable. He has a sense of humor which kept us all engaged. Everything was clearly explained and I had no trouble. I honestly want to take this class again just to have another class with him.
I took this class as a high school student over the summer. This is a easy class if you are able to keep up with the readings. Expect a lot of easy quizzes on readings and lectures. There are only two tests; one midterm and one final. extra credit for two study guides. The last quiz is extra credit. He usually takes attendance. Very helpful.
Took this class over the summer and it was honestly a piece of cake. 2 in class exams, and a lot of online quizzes that cover readings or lectures. Hardest part was staying awake, try not to take his class early in the morning because his lectures tend to drag and get super boring. He gives extra credit, and has many easy points available. Take him
Professor Hollenbaugh has a very dark-humor when he teaches which makes the class more interesting. He gives 2 tests and many supplemental readings on Blackboard. He gives study guides which counts for extra credit at the end. Use any version of the textbook he uses because it's mostly the same. You will need them for the chapter quiz on BL.
Great teacher. Lectures are amazing and gives online quizzes about lecture material as well as articles that you need to read independently . Extra credit can raise your grade by about 3.8% if you do all of it. Midterm and final are harder than the quizzes, but still pretty easy if you study. Easy A if you put the effort.
You will want to read the supplemental readings; he doesn't go over most of them in class. That said, he tends to look for the concepts, not specifics. Nearly everything else comes from lecture. The professor is unfairly witty and gorgeous. A must-take class if you want to learn, laugh, and experience heartbreak over his marriage at the same time.
I sent this guy at least 10 emails and he has NEVER responded. He has done a horrible job and I regret taking Sociology online. He posted our Midterm Study Guide 1 day before the exam and when I emailed him questions he never responded. And YES, I double, triple checked that it was the right email. I'm a straight A student and barely got one here
He is an oddball, but he is pretty funny. The lectures are quite long, but not too bad. Ehh you can pass, and he's a pretty good teacher, so why not? The midterm was super easy, final kinda hard. Just do the study guides and you'll be fine. I didn't do any reading, and it didn't hurt me, just focus on lecture notes.
I was a student of Dr. Hollenbaugh's for a bit over two years. He always made time for my questions and printed additional articles for me from jstor and sagepub. He is the most authentic, knowledgeable, and deep person I have ever met. I learned from him how to "do" sociology, and the importance of doing something about social social inequality.
Took his Soc15 and Soc20 classes, and they were both great. He is very straight forward, no tricks. Follow the readings and lectures and you are good to go. Other assignments were a breeze, and honestly fun to talk about. He gives great feedback if you ever get stumped. He's truly there for you and ready to help you succeed. Take him!
No essays in this class. Lectures could get repetitive and boring. Some questions on the test can be confusing but overall easy if you study. Participation matters so don't skip too many classes.
This guy is easy. Do your work. Take notes. Study somewhat hard the night before the test. And you will get an A. I only needed one question right on the final by the end of the class to get the A. SUPER EASY.
awesome teacher. if you are a sociology major, look no further in trying to take as many classes as you can with this guy online or in person. mad knowledge!
Best sociology professor! I took his classes these past two semesters for my needed classes. I wish he was teaching next semester! Easy to understand and very friendly! He is also highly entertaining and dorky. Knows his subject and is very helpful! I loved his classes a lot. I forgot to thank him, but his class is just so amazing!
I took this class online during an 8-week Summer course. I really loved his textbook choice. As long as you do your work & extra credit, take notes & read your chapters, you should get through the class with an A. Study decently before the tests. The essays were the only thing that threw me for a loop. I ended up with a 94%.
His class was an easy A. I took him online. The hardest assignment was the research poster and even that was easy for me. His exams were very easy as well. He gives yo work but his work is not so much that you can't catch up. Every assignment has a good purpose. I would definitely without a doubt take him again. Definitely go to his office hours.
Dry humour, great lectures, and no book needed. Online quizzes based on short article/pdf's on Blackboard. Only about two tests and a final, all MC only. Very straightforward class based on lecture, just take notes. Made Sociology even more interesting than I remember from high school. Very cool professor overall :)
Prof. Hollenbaugh is a cool man, always brought a ball to class lol... I took a 8-week hybrid class but I wanna say that was not easy cuz it needed time to get everything absorbed. Two tests (including final), 4 SR quizzes and 5 LT quizzes(based on lectures), 16 pts for EC. Be aware of quizzes cuz I always got messed when I did SR quizzes...
I took this class online and it was honestly one of the hardest classes I have taken. I don't feel like I learned anything because he just shows a small video of him talking and then other small youtube videos. All the quizzes are impossible and the midterm was super hard. A LOT of reading. DO NOT take this class if you are not a good reader.
his online class was straightforward, do your work on time and well and you'll be fine. He's also quick to respond and helpful on any issues you're having. 1 midterm online and final in class. final had plenty of questions from the quizzes and midterm was fairly easy HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Hollenbaugh's lectures can seem dry but if you're paying attention, they're actually both entertaining and informative - love his sense of humor. I took all of his classes and I loved every single one. Easy class with clear cut expectations. When I took this class, we had the option to drop a test & had opportunities for extra credit.
Hes Amazing professor
Takes notes during lectures and you should be good for the tests
Very nice professor. His lectures are a little boring but just do all the assignments and youll be fine. His tests are a little hard but you have extra credit so that helps and also short quizzes online that can boost your grade up
One of the funniest prof i've ever met. There was 4 exams (including the finals) all mcq, a handful of quizzes online (open book, mcq). The short quizzes based on readings (usually around 7 pages, not as long as it sounds). Extra credit given by completing study guide for exams. Overall, great class!
He's not too bad, but I've had better professors. Nevertheless, he makes the class very easy and understandable. The exams are all based off of the lectures, so make sure you attend class as he takes participation seriously.
I highly recommend taking this class if it fills one of your GE requirements. This class requires minimal effort even to get an A. If you take all the quizzes on time and do the study guide before the exams and you shouldn't have any problem getting an A. He was very nice about letting me take a makeup exam during his office hours, too.
If you're looking to actually learn sociology, then I don't recommend this class. He is really boring and all he does is lecture. Easiest class only because of the extra credit opportunities and online quizzes. I never well in the exams and still got an A
He offers 10 online quizzes that are due at the end of the semester so plenty of time to complete. 1 quiz is extra credit. You are required to do a social group project which is very easy. His midterm and final are open notes and laptops as well. He is funny and really cares about teaching. Often shows boring movies but overall easy A.
Hollenbaugh is a great guy, he may seem boring but he is incredibly genuine and is interesting if the class participates. If you are boring then he will seem boring. Class is easy too!
I took his online course and was a bit nervous at first because I haven't taken an online class before, but I have really enjoyed this class. I learned so much about our American history that I was shocked, this class has given me a wealth of knowledge, and the whole online thing has been super flexible with my summer schedule.
Lecture was boring actually. Study guide was not really helpful ( kind of vague). Need to memorize lots of material for the exam. However this professor was a nice and chill person, if you want to do great you will have to be very concentrated on his slides and lecture. Would rather take Psychology instead of this.
Super nice prof., tests are a little difficult but plenty of chances to make it up with online quizzes and test. Lectures can get a little boring but he tries to make it up by telling jokes. Very unorganized when teaching on the board but if you listen he makes sense. Attendance isn't mandatory but going to class definitely helps with tests.
Pretty enjoyable class. I showed up to class, payed attention most of the time, took all the quizzes in the classroom, and felt prepared for the tests with no extra work. Added plus is his hilariously dry sense of humor.
easy exams- first exam is online. final is not cumulative tho he said it is. show up to lecture, read the supplemental readings, take GOOD notes to study for exams. class reminded me of high school bc of how easy and chill it was. i'd recommend to my close friends. TAKE HIM.
-so nice, cares a lot about students/soc -lectures can be dull, notes on board are really hard to follow but if you listen to what he's actually saying, he makes sociology really easy (and interesting !!) to learn about -lots of easy online quizzes that really help your grade -tests are on the harder side but lots of EC and the easy online quizzes
Funny & really knows what hes talking about. Graded on 4 exams and a handful of quizzes which are easy if you pay attention.
This was a really easy class for me. His lecture note were not easy to follow but if you listen, a lot of the stuff he says ends up on the test. There's also a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Professor Hollenbaugh is great. He is funny and entertaining. Great lectures. Online homework and online extra credit. Curves.
great person, like to talk a lot, gives out get lecture, Quiz are online with exams in class
Does not follow ppt. lectures at all. He has his own way of teaching and it's amazing. He's absolutely hilarious and it really keeps you engaged. If you miss class you won't pass because none of the notes are online and everybody follows along differently. I don't know why you wouldn't go though, it's an amazing class with a great professor.
This class was extremely easy. Everything on the study guide is on the exams. 4 exams. Quizzes on canvas, can use your notes. He is a funny professor and I like his teaching style as well. This class was a breeze honestly.
Probably one of my favorite professors ever. Had him for SOC 1. Very funny and provides applicable examples for certain intricate topics. Let us use study guides on most of our exams. Wants his students to get an A.
there were very few assignments for soc23. you are graded on participation, a 5-6 pg paper, a midterm, and a final. really funny professor! he will go out of his way to help you!! i recommend him!
great online class. Grades easy but you also learn a lot. a lot of quizzes but easy to pass. He is always welcome to help during office hours with whatever questions you may have. I am taking another online class for him this summer!
This class is very easy, and the teacher gives a good amount of extra credit. The first test is online and he does everything in his power to give his students an A. Teacher is a little odd but genuinely enjoys his job. Would definitely recommend him for any students looking for an easy A.
One of my favorite and most memorable professors! He is so laid back, gives really interesting lectures, and makes the class fun and enjoyable. Super smart, and goes out of his way to help his students. Obviously very passionate about what he teaches. I am taking him again for SOC1, and I hope to take him for SOC2 if I'm lucky!
This class was fun and he is a great lecturer, there are 3 exams and short quizzes after each chapter that arent due until the end of the semester. He has so many EC chances to boost your grade. The tests are exactly like the study guide. As long as you take notes and do the study guide youll get an A. He is also really funny & entertaining
If you want to pass SOC1 with A+ DEFENETLY take it with him! I had so many units and I wanted to drop this course. But, his class is SO EASY that I stayed in class and I am still A+. you WON'T REGRET. they are weekly quizzes, sooo easy!
I needed to take this class to satisfy one more GE before transferring. I'm so glad I took this class because not only was it easy, but Dr. Hollenbaugh was really understanding and a great professor! There are weekly quizzes, discussions/journals. The midterm was easy and the final had one essay question. Overall I really enjoyed this class!
Took the class during the pandemic. Online Class. Zoom meeting is not required, however, highly recommended. ESAY CLASS EVER. Great Professor. One Final: 2 multiple choices sections, and one essay. One timeline project worth 50 points. Lot of Extra credit points. My grade for the class is way beyond 100%, so please take him if want to get a A+++++
Took Prof Hollenbaugh's desynchronized HD15 class. Absolutely loved his recorded lectures that he uploaded weekly. Clear about his requirements and what is expected of students. 100% would take another class from him.
No need to spend much time on this class, he has clear grading, you can use notes for the exams and you will end up with A. Believe me!
Quizzes you are able to use the textbook. Tests are just like the quizzes but without access to the textbook, but the questions are same style, super easy. One easy project at the end of the course. Basically, just read the textbook (which is free) and watch his lectures (really short btw) and you will do well. Easy grader, highly recommend.
This professor is great! If you are looking for a straightforward sociology class, definitely take him. He offers a lot of extra credit as well. 10/10!!
This was my first Sociology class, and I was going in nervous about the topics about to be discussed. Boi was I wrong. Incredible resources and very nicely organized Canvas for covid-19 distance learning! I highly recommend you take his class and ask him questions! I am definitely more confident of who I am and proud to learn more about Sociology.
not time consuming, the professor is very accessible, be on top of assignments and you will get an A
it was pretty easy, and quizzes were all on Quizlet. i would take it again.
BEST professor at IVC! I took him before covid in person (Hybrid course) I highly recommend you take sociology 1 with him and no one else!
Full online class he doesnt teach anything you have to study yourself. Lots and lots of quizzes. A midterm and final which also have essay questions. Dont take him.
Amazing Professor! Very Kind and cares about students. As long as you read the book most things come from the book. Alot is on quizzlett too. Professor is easy to reach out to if you have questions. Most of the tests are pretty straightforward. I wouldnt take any other professor for sociology!
The whole class is mainly weekly open-book quizzes with a midterm and final. This class was very easy and Hollenbaugh is open to any interactions with his students. He also is very quick with grading and overall does a great job of providing as much as possible for students to succeed. If you have enough self-motivation this class is for you!
Super fun and friendly Professor. Had him for an 8-week course. Lots of work and he offers a lot of extra credit which is super helpful. Would recommend his class.
He is really nice and offers a lot of extra credit. The quizzes are pretty easy. Do the study guides and study for the tests and you will do great. Overall, there were a lot of interesting topics that one could learn about.
Prof. Hollenbaugh was great! All online. His lectures were pre-recorded and easy to understand. Textbook will help you on homework and tests (5 qs each week). Extra credit opportunities every week (another 5 qs). Timeline project, 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 final essay. Very easy. Take him if you get the chance.
Easy coursework. One essay. One poster assignment, which was actually fun. Exams are fairly easy. This was my second course with him and I would recommend him for any course. His classes fill up quickly for a reason, sign up early and you won't be dissapointed.
I think this is the easiest class I have ever taken. There're many interesting topics and materials in the course. There are a timeline project, an essay, a midterm, and a final. I was stressed out about the timeline project and the essay, but they were not too bad to write. Just work ahead you'll be fine, other than those, it'd be an easy A.
I love this professor! He was genuinely such a nice guy and really cared and was there for all his students. Highly recommend him! His lectures were always great and on top of that he is super funny. Great class!
Not responsible, never teaching.
Super fun and informative lectures! Great essay prompts too. Midterms and finals may look intimidating at first, but he gives solid study guides and preparation. 10/10 would take his class again.
Easiest class I've ever taken. Haven't talked to him once this semester. Just take it
Final, Midterm, and Quizzes are straightforward -- it is open book. Quizzes have no time limit when taking the quiz. There are also discussions that are usually every other week, and there is an art/poster project. This project took me about 2-3 hours and I received full credit. As long as you put in some effort in this class, it is an easy A.
This class was super easy. You mainly just need to read and memorize the material from the textbook and you're good. He's pretty fast with responding to emails too.
I took SOC 1H. Quizzes occur almost every week, but they are simple and untimed. He allows a cheat sheet on exams, and he offers some extra credit. Definitely an easy A, especially for honors students looking for a simple honors class.
Truly the calmest, most chill, and most exciting course and professor ever! I would highly recommend Hollenbaugh.
Professor H was the calmest professor I have ever taken throughout community college. He grades easier than my former high school teachers, and is supportive of his students. HIGHLY recommend for those looking for easy GE credits.
Professor Hollenbaugh's class was fairly straightforward- simply read the material and you'll do fine. The quizzes and discussions aren't that hard, and there's extra credit thrown in there for good measure.
Took SOC 1H with Professor Hollenbaugh. Overall, it was a very easy class. There are four exams, one online and three in-person. He lets you use a cheat sheet for each of the three in-person exams. He also offers extra credit and his quizzes are easy A's. Definitely a great professor for sociology.
This was probably the most organized online college class ever. Assignments opened up early so I could complete many weeks in advance for times when I would be unavailable. He responds to emails quickly and thoroughly and his recorded lectures were actually informative. Course requirements extremely clear and extra credit was helpful.
Very nice job of explaining, great teacher and nice guy overall.
do the work on time and it's an extremely easy A.
He is an amazing prof! Allows cheat sheets on all tests and is really easy to understand. The course is super easy and fun with him!
Really lecture-heavy. Classes are only lectures. The trade-off is that there's little to no homework aside from short mini-quizzes occasionally. Super nice guy with a unique dry sense of humor that at least made the lectures a little more entertaining. Cheat sheets on exams, including the final. Do the work and it's an easy A.
He changed the score according to his mood and gave me a super high score of 41 when my project was completed according to his requirements, dropping my grade to B. He is a very responsible teacher!
amazing professor and amazing class
Professor Hellenbaugh is amazing, this class is very easy too, as long as you take care of every assignment, this will be a easy A'
Even though reading the textbook was time-consuming, I found the material to be interesting and not that boring. Short quizzes every week on the chapters we read with some discussion posts. Midterm and final exams are the only big exams. One writing project that was easy and doable! Offers extra credit by submitting study guides :)
Professor Hollenbaugh runs a straightforward class. Lectures are clear, and the workload is manageable. Using the free textbook, plus tools like Unstuck AI, helped me stay on top of the material. Overall, an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
He is the chillest professor in ivc. He rarely and barely gives any homework/quizzes. You honestly forget you even have this class thats how quiet and chill he is. take him for sure
Just a chill guy. Easy lectures, homework, and exams.
Professor Hollenbaugh was one of the best teachers I have ever had. The lectures in this class were all we did typically, but they really stuck with me. He is really funny which pulls in attention in the class.
I took Professor Hollenbaugh online Soc1. Weekly announcements, homework discussions and quizzes. The textbook is OpenStax - free for you and he gives you a link. There is one big paper, a midterm and final. you gives you a study guide you fill in and turn in for extra credit. Pay attention to the quizzes.
It's honestly the chillest class I've taken so far. Hardly any homework, super easy tests, and the vibe in class is really fun. I'd totally tell everyone to sign up for it!!!
Very easy class, this professor is so chill and the assignments are pretty easy. There's an analysis project but it's not even as hard as it sounds, it's actually easy. Discussions and quizzes are simple, I recommend this class and professor.
Hollenbaugh is a funny and respected professor. He makes sure he prepares you for the quizzes and exams, but also allows open-note on the quizzes and a cheat sheet on the exam. He will give amazing feedback and answer questions as thoroughly as possible. If this class is required or you wanna learn more about sociology, he is the best prof for it.
No paper or projects, and the only homework was simple lecture/supplementary reading quizzes. He has entertaining lectures and makes the exams really easy + extra credit for exam study guides/random in-class activities. Textbook and additional readings are pretty short for a whole month's worth of material between each exam.
More professors should be like this guy honestly. Dudes a goat and he only wants to see you get a high grade in his class.
If you're going to take a sociology class take this professor, he's so laid back and understanding.
Very good teacher, he makes lectures fun and interesting because he's a funny person. He does activities that are engaging with class. All around great teacher!
He's very funny and insightful, always loved his lectures and sense of humor. Assignments are short, online, open note quizzes and sometimes short readings. There are some extra credit opportunities and he allows cheat sheets on exams. The material is honestly very light, the course was quite easy. He's a cool guy you definitely should take him!
