Ingram's a hilarious guy. Very intelligent. Says a lot of random stuff in class. The T.A. this quarter grades way too hard but that doesn't mean that this will hold true in the future. Highly recommended. Great guy in general. Fun class too.
good teacher really keeps your attention. Hard to tell how easy or hard he is because the T.A. grades hard. Would suggest teacher.
definitely knew his stuff. knew what he was talking about and it showed. tough course in general cuz there's a lot to cover but just be ready to take mad notes and study them hard.
really cool guy. highly intelligent, but tried to transfer the information in an understandable way. lots of reading, but would still reccommend him if you need a good history prof.
Ingram is great, but the T.A. was a grading Nazi. Be prepared for all-writing midterms and finals. Requires a lot of studying and reading.
HILARIOUS. I hate history and I loved this class.
FUNNY and brilliant!! quick moving class packed with material. lots of reading and studying involved, but worth it. he makes class fun, and i hate history. excellent teacher.
Professor Ingram is an excellent continuation of the British historical tradition. The two thousand year history of the British Isles is long and dramatic and deserves an enthusiastic instructor like Ingram. Cool bow tie!!
He is a very dry talker and his lectures are boring. Instead of engaging his students with questions and examples he rambles on like an audio text book. Only 2 grades in the class. Isn't clear on what he wants answer wise. VERY hard history course and rather boring teaching approach.
Ingram is not a bad guy, but slightly arrogant at times. His lectures are interesting but hard to follow- he LOVES to talk. Not many opportunities for grades which makes harder, but if you study A LOT for tests (all essays!) they aren't bad. Take with friends- it's hard to make yourself go everyday
his class is almost complete Hobbes ... nasty, brutish, and not too short. That said, I learned more in this class than any other at OU. You'll work your tail off, but learn alot. Can't complain about that. Also, once you get used to his style, he's actually a great lecturer.
didn't like him at all. he jumps from topic to topic in his lectures and doesn't stay on track. he puts notes online but they are just word lists and he doesn't follow them. 1/3 of my class failed his midterm. lots of dry reading on historians such as locke, hobbes, smith. BOOORRRRIIINNNNGGGGGG. -yawn-
I suddenly realized at the very end of this class how much I had learned. The class is hard as a gulag but Ingram's alright once you get used to the incredible amount of reading. Recommended but word to the wise ... be prepared to work even if you just want a C

THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS! If you are not prepared to do the reading assignments and prepare yourself for class, then you are not going to do well. Ingram is an EXCELLENT professor. He's intelligent and pretty much tells you what he wants on the first day of class. Not to mention, he's pretty funny. Most of the time, I really enjoyed going to class
One of the worst professors I've ever had. He has a lisp and a stutter and speaks under his breath, changes topics, doesnt finish sentences and you'll have no idea what he said. I'd go to class and come back with just random words written down becuase he wouldnt explain and would change subjects. You have to read about 800 pages a week. The test
This is the best class I've taken at this school. Ingram is very good at teaching. He tells you everything that he expects on the first day of class, and he is not exaggerating. There is a lot of reading, but the lectures are very informational and he is the best prof I've had at OU. Highly recommended. He gives extra credit too.
its easy to be intimidated by Ingram, but if you go to his office he's actually quite helpful. he's the most demanding teacher i've had at OU, but you learn an incredible amount of things from him if you stick with it
If you don't want to read a TON--do NOT take any of his classes. Moves fast and if you get behind or lost, he will leave you there to your grade's detriment. Tests are ALL ESSAY and they are not ones you can bull s#*t through. Wears an obnoxious bow tie which I never quite understood. And you better be a fast writer for lectures.
This class is extremely difficult! You have to read hundreds upon hundreds of text book pages if you even want to think about passing the class. The midterm and the final are the same format and most of it is fill in the blank if you know the random fact he picked out of the book about a specific person. Do not take this class!
I've taken a few classes with Professor Ingram, and understand why students might be frustrated by the difficulty of his classes. Ingram doesn't just hand out A's or B's-- you have to work for them. In the process, you learn a lot-- he focuses on cultural literacy and broad themes, not random facts. Isn't that the point of going to college anyway?
Very Hard Exams and Paper
ingram's class is very hard. you have to do a ton of reading to even think about passing. i hope you can right fast because he sure does talk fast. he mumbles alot and he doesn't finish he sentence. you only get 3 main grades. the exams are hard and so is the paper you have to write.
He's a very hard professor. You do have to read and it's a lot of memorization. I honestly didn't buy the book and still came out with a C+ in the class. He's difficult but gave a ton of extra credit in my class. You will come out of it having learned the material though.
After I saw all the bad comments about Ingram, I had to help him out. Yeah, I'm sure he's bad in the lower level classes because he hates freshman. He'll come right out and say it. But if you're taking him for a 300 level the guy's HILARIOUS. Sarcastic, dry, and a bit arrogant, but you'll have that. He's an okay guy and he CURVES!
A very comprehensive class, but our exams did not resemble much of the important topics. I learned a lot, but when exam time came, there seemed to be a large amount of relevant trivia that was largely unimportant in the overall understanding of the concepts presented in class.
Granted I barely passed his class, but he's a pretty fair professor. I'd take another class taught by him any day.
best prof i've had at OU. he'll teach you to think like a historian. if youre a historian, you'll appreciate the quality of the content of this course. if you're serious about youre education at this university, you should take one of his upper-level early modern english courses.
One of my favorite professors. He has high expectations - you must read the assignments and come prepared to discuss them. He's really smart and he has a sarcastic, sometimes bitter sense of humor. He's great if you want to really think like a historian and learn things. If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the prof for you.
Teaches the class like it's a 300 level class. Doesn't follow the syllabus and never finishes what is the topic of a lecture. Quite a bit of reading to do. Retook the class with Dr. Curp and got a B+. It was much more thorough. Odd voice and is somewhat belittling to students yet better than taking class with an incompetent prof
Doesn't follow syllabus fails to answer in class questions. Very pompous in, and out of class. Somewhat funny but it doesn't help that he's terrible at his job of teaching this course. Dr. Curp is a much better choice even if he's just as pompous and a little belittling. Large amount of reading for both profs and Curp exams are essay.
A pompous, but funny guy. He is one of the most enthusiastic professors about his material. Exam essays are relatively broad and exam in general is tough. Do the weekly readings if you wanna have any clue with what's going on in the discussion sessions. Can be challenging, but enjoyed the class a lot and would take any class from this professor.
This class is hard. Don't bother buying the book. You won't open it the entire Quarter. The exams are all based off the notes given in class and the readings that are assigned weekly. Discussion sessions are mandatory, but they are VERY helpful. The TA is very good. Go to him for help.
Utterly ridiculous. would definitely consider this one of the hardest classes ive ever taken. The paper is horrible to write and the exams cover a couple topics out of the hundreds you are expected to know. Highly recommend not taking his class
Not very good at all. I will never take him again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS especially your 1s quarter freshman yr. This guy jus teaches super fast and its just a ton of notes and readings. You never use the book. The exams were very hard. I recommend you take his123 with a different professor
He's really enthusiastic about the subject, which is nice. He also makes the content easy to understand. However, you are expected to do a LOT of weekly reading, and the exams are ridiculously hard. Overall, good teacher, awful tests.
Ingram is a really cool guy. His course is hard, but he makes it easy to understand in lecture. If you do the readings, participate in discussion, and do well on the exams, there is no reason you shouldn't get a decent grade in this class. I think History 330 (film) is the best class I have taken with him.
If you are serious about learning and want a college education this is the professor for you. You do not need a text book for this class as handouts are plentiful. Great Prof. if you are serious about college. I should have taken Ingram's class as a freshman.
Professor Ingram is the hardest teacher I've had so far at OU .... he's also the best. But don't take this class unless you're prepared to work and be challenged. He is not like the typical easy as pie OU prof.
Taking this class is academic suicide. WAIT UNTIL ANOTHER PROFESSOR IS AVAILABLE! If you cannot wait, make sure you have no other time-consuming classes, as this class will own you for the quarter. Studied my a** off and got a D+. Readings are practically incomprehensible.
Took both 121 and 122 prior to this with no troubles. However this class was extremely hard. I always went to lecture and took thorough notes but was unable to do well on the tests. Great man and personality but definitely a hard class.
Want an easy A? Do not take this class with Dr. Ingram. Want to actually learn history? Take this class with Dr. Ingram. Excellent professor that really knows how to challenge his students. The tests are extremely hard but his lectures are interesting and worth going to. This class made me love history.
I cannot speak for his teaching skill in the traditional classroom setting, but he DOES NOT TEACH in his online class. His objectives are unclear. He assigns a large amount of reading and expects students to write a timed essay on the reading. There are no forums in which to discuss the material for classmates.
Intelligent -knows his stuff. It's easy to get lost in his lectures as he jumps around. The exams are excruciating because there is too much to answer that you can't give it due consideration which serves nothing to the learner. It seems he wants to find the best & brightest student but this doesn't help the whole to really grasp the class & tests.
Hardest class I have ever taken by far.
If you understand history and it comes to you easily im sure this class is cake, but if you struggle wtih history a little bit do NOT take. Its more like a philosophy class you test on ideas and concepts which is not really what we went over in class! Randomly takes attendance even though he says its not mandatory. it does go towards your grade.
I loved this class I was already interested in Tudors England and have read tons of stuff on the subject but he still taught me more. He makes the classes interesting. He is a tough grader I blew the class average out of the water on almost all grades and still ended up with a B and holds students to a high standard I will def take Dr. Ingram again
Exams will kill you even with study. Tons of memorization. Know everything thoroughly! Lectures are fast paced and sometimes not clear. I received a B but it did not come easily and I have a 3.80 GPA w/out trying very hard. With this class I probably could try harder & still may not get an A unless it was at the expense of my other class work.
Great professor!
Ingram is a great teacher, however fast-paced this course may be. The issue with this particular course is the amount of material covered in such a short period of time. Be prepared to read a ton, and study until you eyes bleed, because his exams are like pulling teeth. All in all I'd take his classes any day, though I'm sure my grades would suffer
He expects his students to know a lot more then the average student does. If you are a history major, then he would be a good teacher, but for those non history majors, its impossible. His tests are ridiculous and his lectures tend to be a little irrelevant.
If you aren't sure about which history class to take, do not take this one! At least not with Ingram unless you are a history buff. His tests go well beyond the material covered in class, and he rambles in his lectures. His powerpoints are not helpful because of all the irrelevent information they contain. So BEWARE.
difficult to follow; fast paced; tons of reading; grades wildly hard and unrealistic; easy to miss test tips because he mumbles and spits them out so rapidly; makes fun of freshmen; you will learn lots but at gpa expens; class is made to make you do bad
Really nice guy, class is pretty difficult. He makes you work for your grade and like any history class it's based on your TA. Takes pride in students hating him but actually an interesting class and an interesting guy.
He has a great sense of humor and is really passionate about his teaching. I enjoyed the class and thought it was easy
He was extremely unclear with what we needed to know for tests. Promised he would give practice questions for the essay part of exam but never followed through. He jumped all over the place and was ridiculously hard to pay attention to and follow when taking notes. His exams were ridiculous. My least favorite teacher EVER at Ohio University.
Very unclear and his exams go way beyond the information discussed in class or on the worthless powerpoints. I would highly recommend never taking his class...trust me
He's pretty great teacher for my class. He'll help when ever he can all you have to do is ask.
Ingram is tough. There's a ton of reading required and sometimes he goes off on tangents and its really hard to pay attention. But I have to say he's an excellent teacher. I never learned so much in one class. Know ahead of time that he DOES NOT GIVE A's! He said maybe 1/2 per semester for only OUTSTANDING students! Something to keep in mind.
This course s one of the more straight forward online classes. What an nline class should be.
The enthusiasm of this professor is great.
Ingram is hilarious! A goofy professor who acts like a college kid at times, but knows his stuff. He can provide a lot of insight, but get ready to read and read and read and read. And then read some more. Participation is key. So is note taking. Overall a good professor, although I wasn't too fond of the course.
He teaches like he's standing athwart history, yelling stop playing with your iphone and start learning about Western civ. And that makes his class worthwhile.
From day one you can tell Ingram is a great guy and great professor. He cracks really funny jokes in every lecture, which only makes his class better. At times he gets carried away with side stories, but they're always interesting so I don't mind. Read the material. Study the material. Read the material again. You NEED to understand it to pass.
Prof Ingram is not the greatest instructor in the world. His lectures are slightly scatterbrained so I found it harder to take useful notes. However he mixed in a lot of comedy to help keep things interesting. Tests are hard so study and make sure you use a thesis statement in your essays.
I've never seen a syllabus with nicer fonts. Where does he get them from?
Dr. Ingram taught me the beauty of Goudy Old Style. I'll cherish it forever.
He may be the most sarcastic and funniest professor I've ever had, but beware that you will work for your grade. The hardest part about the class is all the reading assignments you are expected to understand. Tests are in two parts with an ID section and document based section. Not the worst, but you will have to work.
Ingram is so funny and i really enjoyed the class. Do the readings and you'll be fine!
Dr. Ingram's class is not hard if you attend lectures and discussions like you're supposed to. The tests seem like a lot but if you study your class notes you should be fine. Dr. Ingram is one of the best history professors I've had and is hilarious.
Ingram is an amazing professor. His class is interesting and you get in what you put out. If you participate in class and discussions it is a lot of fun. Do the reading and do it well. It is easy to get an A if you put in like an hour of effort on the reading. He also gives a ton of extra credit.
Dr. Ingram was the saving grace of my freshman year! Go to his class, study, take notes and get and A. The class isn't easy deal with it!
Dr. Ingram's section is challenging for only a 1000 level course, but so worth it. He is actually concerned with what his students takeaway from the class. Lecture isn't mandatory, but DO NOT miss it. He gives great information that is vital to exam success. He's also personable and makes lecture interesting with his side comments. Overall great.
The bow tieit works. If you want to continue being really stupid in the world, don't take this class.
This is the second time I have taken one of Ingram's courses, and I would take another one. Easily one of my favorite professors at OU. However, if you can't deal with reading, showing up, talking, and dealing with a professor who likes to talk and crack jokes (usually at your own expense) then don't sign up. But, it is very worth your time.
Dr. Ingram was the best. His lectures were very entertaining and had no problem keeping my attention. He had a very humorous, satirical way of teaching the material. He does make you turn in your cell phones every class and prohibits you from taking notes on your laptop, but you get extra credit for it in the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this class.
Okay, so here's the thing with Ingram. Man is a solid and passionate history professor, who enjoys what he does. And is willing to work with students. But if you think the class will be easy you're fooling yourself, readings every week and discussing sections are mandatory. Will not give you multiple choice exams, all essay and long answer response
Ingram knows his stuff and is passionate about it, but he makes you work. For exams he will give you a study guide containing around 30-35 terms/pictures and randomly choose 8 of them in which you write essays. Only take this class if you are really wanting to learn and spend a good chuck of your time. I personally do not want to have him again.
Dr. Ingram has been one of my favorite professors so far at OU. The course is definitely reading heavy and theres a ton of content, but if you show up, take notes, and actually attempt the readings youll do fine! Ingram is energetic and hilarious. He is very accessible outside of class and his TAs are top notch. Youll gain a new prospective!
Not that he himself is a bad instructor (pretty good actually) but many flaws to the course. Hours of readings for homework weekly, the TAs only give some of your homework back which is what we use to study for the exams. Exams are graded very difficultly. Does offer extra credit for simple things which helped my grade!
Ingram is one of my favorite professors at OU. He has a humorous personality but knows when to be serious. He gives extra credit for going to class and outside extra credit worth up to 10% extra on exams. DO THIS!! his exams are not that hard but you do have to study for them. Not an easy A, but not all too hard. I loved him!!
Good guy, very smart, but has a hard time staying on topic. Lots of tangents throughout lecture. Likes to give out bonus point and extra credit options. Ingram is good overall though. Easy person to talk to and very passionate about the topic he teaches. Seems like a great professor to do independent work with.
Ingram is a good teacher but the material is so boring unless you're a history major. The class is mainly pointless reading and having to retain a bunch of useless information for the tests.
There's a lot of reading that goes along with this class, but if you're willing to put in the effort to read and go to class, I highly recommend taking him for this class. He's a really great professor
Get ready to read vigorous amounts of reading each week. If you think you will get by without doing every last part of reading each week you are wrong.
Ingram made the exams much harder than what they needed to be, a ton of incredibly specific questions. Lots of long readings and reading logs that are graded pretty tough. Discussions aren't too bad - just be ready to talk about the readings. I'm not sure how he lectures in person, but his online lectures are hard to understand because he mumbles.
Ingram's a solid professor. He definitely knows his stuff and is passionate about it. However, The amount of reading every week is crazy, and the reading logs take FOREVER to do if you don't understand the readings well. Discussion sections aren't too bad for being online this semester, but watching lectures was the most boring thing this semester.
I took two European history courses with Ingram, and he was a great professor. His sense of humor made renaissance Europe tolerable, and his accessibility outside of class was amazing. Highly recommend taking Ingram if you get the chance.
I can understand why some people may not like Ingram. This class was the hardest class Ive ever taken at OU. However, Ingram understood how hard the pandemic was on us, and gave us a break. Hes funny, looks like Jim Carrey. If you make an effort to talk to him, he will help you out. Stop leaving bad reviews, hes not that bad.
Ingram was cool. Honestly, a really hard course overall for a survey. But he's a cool guy. He understands he's difficult and will help you through his classes. Great guy to talk to, and he loves bonus points (for the class I took). He was the first professor I had at Ohio University, and he was just great. Left a great mark on my time here.
Awesome professor. He will make you work, but he makes it fun. Very reading intensive and the 3 exams basically are your grade, except for weekly reading quizzes, which make up the other piece. If you have to take history of capitalism, take it with Ingram
This class really required a lot of reading and he will get you if you didn't. But the class was extremely engaging and interesting and he was fun. He gave the entire class extra credit on the final if I dressed as him on the last day so I did. Biggest problem I had was his disdain for the band Chicago, they are a good band.
Engaging class, but heavy on reading. Professor gives fun extra credit. Helpful study tools like Unstuck study complemented the course well.
