Awesome teacher.
Teacher is cool, Test are very thorough and are directly from the book in which he wrote. Best Tip is memorize everything..
When he was teaching with Powell and Pontheiu (sp?) he wasn't a very good teacher. Try taking a test made by three different professors. It's hard to know what to study and what to take in as important. I don't know if he's still teaching with the other 2, if he is, don't get him.
very nice guy, but lectures are kinda boring. kind of a common sense class. tests are easy if you study the book.
Insley is a great teacher and a good guy...until your final exam. I had a B average on my tests and did all of the other work and extra credit so expected an A after taking the final. Studied all week for it, and made a 56!!! Friend made a 39. TA said highest grade was a 70 somthing... If you need a B take him, A, find someone else!!!!
Read the Book!!! His tests are straight from the book. Attendance is necessary, if you do all of the in-class assingments you get bonus points at the end of the semester.
nice guy, but no-nonsense type. if he thinks you are doing something else besides listening to his lecture, he will point you out and ridicule you in front of the entire class. easy tests though, just read the book.
Very boring!! I found the class pointless! he uses some many handouts that it was hard to keep up with everything he hands out. And most of the handouts are not even useful. There is also ALOT of busy work from workbooks and webct.
Do yourself a favor and make sure you show up to class everyday at least 5 minutes early!!! I lost a bunch of points because I was late a few times and he counts tardiness as absences. Overall though, a great class, where you explore how to communicate professionally and learn how to work in teams. I met some really great friends that way.
Hope to god that you get a good group. I had a terrible experience and basically had to write the entire 10 page paper by myself. The workbook was a lot of work and you'll have carpel tunnel syndrome when you're done. Nice guy and the tests aren't killer but you need to read a bit for terms.
Take it online. I have a friend that took it online and didnt have to do all the busy work. There is a ton of busy work and a project that lasts the entire semester. The tests are very generic being that there could be more than one correct answer. He rambles in class about pointless stuff but you have to go for attentdance. Very nit-picky teacher!
boring class. he just talks and talks and talks. but listen, because his opinions is what the test is over. It doesnt matter what you think or precieve something to be; its all about him and his opinions. DONT expect to get your two cents in or accounted for! Show up on time, don't mess with electronic devices, and just sit back, take notes, a
The crux of the material you'll need to know will come from the book. He goes over very little in his class, but he is warm, interesting, and extremely friendly.
Good class lots of group work. Online assignments are easy considering you can have the practice ones open next to the actual quizes. tests are easy straight out of the book. He does tend to ramble of subject a bit and continue for a while
Time consuming class. HUGE team project, hope you get decent teammates! Lots of online activities (nothing to worry about) Lecture is pretty boring, but everything you need to know for the tests is in the book. Not much feedback on work turned in, so it's hard to tell if there is anything that you could have done better
His lectures are boring. alot of workbook exercises to complete and easy online assignments that come straight from the textbook. a total of 2 exams which again come from the textbook. a friend of mine took it online and you dont do the workbook exercises. Overall easy class
Very easy class if you stay on top of the workbook assignments and online work. Very big team project all semester but it's not bad if you get decent teammates. Go to class to get extra credit but no need to take notes.
Great clear professor who makes leaning this very important material fun! Tests are extremely simple, homework is as well. Glad I had the pleasure of taking his course.
Great teacher, easy going and friendly. Took class in 5 week. LOTS of writing, no 'big project'. Just keep up. Attendance not req., but gives points. Typical MGMT class; they act like all are majors rather than filling a base requirement. I would not take in long semester.
Perfect class to take if you need a "A" or "B". There is a writing project but long as you get a good group you'll be ok. Also DO NOT text in class, bring a laptop to class, come to class to late, or interrupt him in the middle of teaching class to turn something in because he will put you on front street and embarrass you in front of the class.
I feel very fortunate to have taken Dr. Insley's class. Team project is easy if you get good team mates. Tests are easy if you read the book. And his lectures are clear and easy to follow. Class isn't mandatory, however it's definitely still a good idea to go. Material can be "boring" but it's very important, so paying attention is to your benefit.
pointless class, REALLY EASY. the online homework is simple, and the test questions are pulled directly from it.the only reason to show up to class is the occasional in-class exercise, which arent worth many points. the Group Project is really easy, you get all semester to do it. but its grade is dependant on your teamates, they can fail you.
Boring and crappy class but all biz majors have to take it. Has one team project. Very important you get an A on it. Get an A on the project and dont do good on the tests for some reason you can still get a B. I got an A. Lectures are boring. This guy likes his job way to much. Overall, easy. Easy. Easy. Just pray that you get team members.
Good teacher boring class but make sure you make an A on the team project and do all the online quizes and you MUST read all the chapters front to back don't skim through them becuse the questions he asks from the book are very specific so skimming won't cut it! I recommend this professor!
The team project is very easy, but so time consuming. Also, I didn't read at all and made A's on my tests. He gives you online assessments, which you can't look at after you are done. Just copy and paste them into Microsoft Word before submitting them, and you already have about 80% of the test questions. He gives a boat load of extra credit too.
Dr. Insley is a great professor. His class is pretty easy. The main thing is the team project, just hope you get good team members. Read the book and do the online activities and you will be just fine. Dr. Insley also makes himself available to students and is a very easy going guy. I would recommend him to anyone.
Deducts points for Text messaging In class. Will drop you a letter grade if you are more than 10 minutes late 4 times. The test appear to be a sick joke and do not relate to management. The questions asked may be similar to "what country won the national text messaging speed championship".
Insley is different that is for sure, but he sure does know his stuff. Fairly easy class if you come to class, read, do the online homework, and do the group project. 2 tests which come from notes, the book, and handouts. The group project is the only big assignment in this class. He relates EVERYTHING to the "business world" so be ready for that.
Professor Insley is such a BORING professor. He knows what he is talking about but his teaching style is terrible. His class was dreadful. His tests are pretty detail oriented so studying is a MUST! His lectures are useless, so are his "group exercises". Also, there is assigned seating so prepare to step back into middle school.
Insley is all about keepin his job as department head. He wrote the NEW book that is mandatory an was over $250. He had to cancle the online quizzes due to the fact that the answers were contradicting what his book said. Also you learn about proper business writing forms. And yet there are numerous spelling an grammatical errors in his book.
In top 5 for worst I've had. Requires you to buy the book he wrote with the online access code to answer questions he could have just posted to blackboard. Study the book like crazy. The test questions are absurdly detailed. Long-winded is an understatement for his lectures. Not there to help his students, TA's do it all. Do well on the project.
The lectures are very repetitive & elementary, with little class involvement & lots of his personal stories. He tests on irrelevant facts from his book. The book is very text-heavy with 35-50 pg chapters. If you have a question, he will make you search in the 20 pg syllabus or email his TAs (who don't respond.) Won't even return the Exams in class.
His class is easy but he tries to make everyone struggle by being so detail oriented. Attendance is a must or you will miss the 5 different handouts he passes out. Do well on the project and you can easily get an A. Very boring man. If you are willing to be bored out of your mind then go for it. I wish I waited to do it online.
Boring class and professor. Attendance is crucial and has assigned seating (which is ridiculous). Will take off points for texting. Detail oriented exams. Take class in summer if possible.
very boring and confusing. tests are difficult. is very strict. takes attendanace. no electronic devices at all
Prof. Insley is good. I got an A in his class. However, he didn't touch quiz grading. Many questions in his quizes are ambiguous. If you go to his graders they will bark at you, which is completely against what he taught in class don't interrupt, listen, respect... If you're lucky, they'll pretend to write down the letter drawing sth that's it.
Many topics that's on the second exam is tested on the first exam. How can you know what's in the chapters that's not covered until later? Complete waste of time. This class is more about remembering the exact word than learning how to be an effective communicator. Although the idea is still the same, he penalizes you on missing a single word.
Run like the plague. The absolute worst professor I have ever had. The required book, which he wrote, is grossly ignorant. Information contained within it are his own personal reflections about technology use and communication. His TA's are oblivious to what's going on. 21 page syllabus, HARSH grading and unapproachable. Do not waste your time.
Awful. He talks to his students like they are children. This is a upper level class and I deserve to be treated with a bit of respect. Don't you dare take out your phone or it will be a 15 minute rant about technology. The book is ridiculous. Go to class or you will not pass. Overall, awful professor. I refuse to ever let anyone I know take him.
When I read some previous reviews on this site, I really felt confused about this class. However, I felt better at the end of class when I got A+. This class is not difficult unless you're lazy. Dr. Insley is very supportive and patient to explain everything you haven't understood yet. Good luck!
Professor is a funny outgoing guy! Seems like he loves what he does. Good and simple lectures but the tests come from the chapters so get ready to read. They usually cover 5 halter a which is a lot when each chapter is about 35 pages long!! There are quizzes for each chapter online. You must go to class for a participation grade. Read the book!
If you can avoid him, do it. If you can't avoid him then drink a six pack of red bull before class and try your hardest to stay awake during his lectures. Very boring and loves to try and boost his "accomplishments" while he's speaking.
Horrible professor. Boring and out of date. DO NOT GET ON YOUR PHONE. If he catches you on your phone you drop half of a letter grade... Trust me he means business.
The class was fairly easy, you just have to make sure to read your book for the test and print out the handouts that are online. You have to show up to get the participation points that are given via little group assignments every class period. Doesn't round your grade up, had an 89.9 and he gave me a B.
20 points deducted from my grade because I was exchanging # with a girl in the class BEFORE he started the class. make sure all of your electronics are put away before you walk in the classroom! He seem nice at first but later on the way he talks to/about people is very rude. Not a good public speaker. avoid if possible but prob an easy A class
He is an excellent professor, all the bad reviews here are bc is clear since day one he doesnt want tech used in his class or will deduct points. So follow the instructions thats all, you most read to be on track, if you miss class all the time you will loose participation points, if you study you pass, test are not hard and very straight forward
Dr Insleys class is SUPER easy. 3 exams including final which is not cumulative. Online hw was a breeze and is not time consuming at all. Attendance is mandatory and is part of your grade and his lectures go off topic A LOT but he is very pleasant. He gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit. A lot of group work but easy assignments.
Just take notes and put a star next to things he says more than once. Easy in class exercises. Attendence matters. No electronics. Very interesting topics that everyone will need for their own career. Most tests questions can answered by 50% book knowledge and 50% common sense. Course access is required and the book is helpful.
Took during Summer1. MUST buy NEW book for access code. NO phones or laptops allowed during class time. Daily group discussions for participation points so don't miss class. 3 Multiple Choice Exams. Some studying is needed. Final Grade based on Point Total. I made a Low B on all 3 Exams and still got an A in the class. Good guy, great class.
He's nice and all but does not want any kind of technology out. He does go off topic a few times during class which can be annoying sometimes. Very easy class, does not put his powerpoints online.
This class was awful, I'm usually an A student and this class destroyed my gpa. Super boring and not helpful in lectures. Literally gets all of his test questions from the book chapters.
If you enjoy writing three, single-spaced page papers, sign up for this class! Come to class to get points from in-class group work, his lectures don't really teach you anything, he talks about his personal life too much. He wrote the textbook, and the test are over the textbook, articles in the book, "lectures" and in-class group work.
There are assigned seats for over 200 people; made me feel like I was in elementary school again. Not to mention his everyday in class exercises are elementary and are a waste of time and paper. He only has one TA who does all the grading (he looks miserable) You have to turn your essays into his TA's office during office hours (have fun with that)
Most of the class is his life story, he laughs at everything he says, and is overall awkward, annoying, and uptight. He has 2 test, both which are hard because no review and he pulls questions from the book (that he wrote and you have to purchase), the workbook, and lectures. Easy besides the tests, but have to go to class.. don't take him.
One of the worst professors I have taken. Frequently gets off topic, lectures are boring. Must read the book CAREFULLY to do well.
No electronic devices during class, so avoid this professor if you like to type out your notes. Read the textbook, he only goes over 2-3 pages from each 30+ page chapters. My in class notes for the semester was literally two front/back pages. Do the homework. No Reviews. Cool guy with a great personality tho. But that wont help you with the exams.
Expects undivided attention during wordy lectures; exams mostly pertain to in-class notes/exercises and unimportant textbook details; the amount of effort one must put forth for an A isn't worth the time.
I seriously regret taking this class. If you read every page in the textbook carefully, you might have a chance. Tests are very difficult. Absolutely no electronic devices allowed with no leniency.
The guy thinks he is a genius because he has a doctoral degree. Basically this class is a chance for him to talk down to young people while bragging about all the degrees he has. Those degrees must have helped; or not considering he is now a intro management professor. Totally out of touch with technology in business. DON'T TAKE.
Easy A/B with little effort. Access code is needed but book isn't. HW questions can be found online. 2 tests and 1 professionalism report. Tests based on common sense, articles, and a few from lecture. Follow guidelines for report and make 50/50. Attend class for easy in-class activities. If you can live without your phone for 60 min take Insley.
Worst professor at UNT. Hands down. Teaches communicating and yet is a terrible speaker. "Things of that sort" and "do you agree" pretty much replace the everyday "umm" Says each probably 20 times a class. Over educated and makes you buy his book and access code which is the equivalent of 1 leadership/management article spread out over a whole book
Professor Insley is your good old-fashioned professor. He's not unreasonable in his assignments or expectation of the class. Give him respect, don't use your phone or laptop in class, don't come in late or leave early, do your homework (fairly easy), and you should be good to go.
Dr. Insley is a great guy and the class over all isn't that difficult. To get an A here are some tips: Read the book and look for details like percentage of things and quantity of hours. He loves to test on the littlest details like this. Furthermore, he also test on things like "What country does the A-ok sign mean money". Keep this in mind. GL HF
He is very tedious. If you could take this online I'd advise you to. His class is very over there top, he provides a seating chart. So he will know if you are not there. His tests will require you to remember things he said from class lectures and the YouTube videos and articles he makes you watch for assignments. Attendance is key
He's a super nice old man, very friendly and helpful. He's oldfashioned though, doesn't really understand how students really feel. Easy class though, just pay attention and you'll pass
Not a bad choice. Super strict no phone rule, like he'll get legitimately angry if he catches you. You'll have one group project that you can knock out in one day together honestly. Super strict grader though, like it's a little overboard. Reading the textbook is required if you want to do well on tests, but you could pass without it.
Dr. Insley is very old fashioned and super strict on phones. He also expects you to follow all instructions to the letter. For example, I lost 3 points on a paper for forgetting to capitalize one letter in my heading. He is a seriously tough grader and does not work with you for extra credit. I never used the book for class.
POS !!!!!!!!! First time experiencing a horrible professional at UNT. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Nice man, strict on tech use in class, online assignments are easy, he wrote the text book so he has extremely detailed questions on the exam so if you're looking for an A in this class you'll need to read it cover to cover. Also, to make an A, you need to take detailed notes, view the online pp slides, and be present for every in class activity.
So here is the deal, his class is not *that* hard, it is honestly just harder than it actually needs to be. He requires so much material for each test, more than notes and book, but numerous articles and handouts as well. If you show up to class you'll be fine. Please take GOOD notes or you'll regret it.
If your major isn't directly related to business, don't take this class. There's online assignments but the answers to those are on quizlet. The tests are very difficult because he asks unrealistically specific questions to make sure you've memorized each handout and each page in the book. Lots of reading (6 chapters per test) and boring lectures.
Dr. Insley is terrible. This is the first time I have ever taken the time to write a review for a professor but I thought I should do something good and warn other students. He is strict and stuck in the past. He is clear as to the papers, but gives no insight into whats going to be on the test which were overly difficult. Do not take him, please.
Takes attendance for credit. Has online homework and 3 big test. Worst professor at Ive had at UNT so far. Stuck in the pass, and goes into story telling mode in his lectures. The class isn't that hard, he just makes it hard. Show up to class, do the online homework, and somewhat study for exams and you do decent on them, then you'll be fine.
There are good days and there are bad. It is like he still lives in the 50's where anything electronic is obscene; thinks most business people don't use electronics. Sometimes funny and sometimes mediocre. He means well but can come off very rude. He hates people leaving to go to the restroom. If I spend $1200 for this class I will use the RR!
Dr. Insley is stuck in the past more than any professor I've ever had. When it comes to test, he believes that if he said it in class or is on one of the many MANY unnecessary handouts it is fair game to be tested on. Mind you, he gives out nearly 20 handouts per test. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR.
Take this for example: In one single unit he gives you 300+ pages to read, and six handouts numbering 5+ pages. Now the only information you are given to study is: It's on the stuff in those chapters. Fortunately the class isn't ridiculous. Most of it is common sense. However an A will be difficult to achieve and you better not be late EVER.
Attendance, class assignments, and having your phone out will kill your grade if your fail to do any of them. I got full points on all three, but saw how others grade's suffered because of those items. Exams aren't hard, but he assigns a lot of chapters, so be sure to read. Professor is a stickler for the littlest things, so beware.
He preaches about conciseness and clarity, but lectures are long and frequently off topic. Exams are extremely specific to the text and handouts (at least 10 are given per exam). He will give you an abundance of resources and only test you over a tiny part of it. ALL TEXT and HANDOUTS must be memorized to make a decent exam grade. No extra credit.
He goes off topic a lot in class so make sure you are always listening because he will sneak in some useful test information. Assigned seating in class and in-class activities at random that do count towards your grade. Very tough grader must follow rubrics entirely. I studied hard for the A but it's possible and I do feel like I learned a lot.
Dr. Insley is not a professor to look forward to. Exams will be over 300+ pages of text book, 10+ pages of in class handouts, and lecture notes. The exams will be over a small fraction of what you were told could be tested. NO technology allowed. Be late and be marked absent. No extra credit. Would not recommend.
Professor Insley knows what he's talking about and provides amazing resources to succeed in business interviews. However, I question his grading. His exams are mainly from notes and memory. So if you skip class you'll fail. Also I want to highlight that his Reviews will not help you at all on the exams, he just puts "read chapter 12& handouts"
I have never had a professor ramble so much. At least half of the class time is wasted with his stories. He made a seating chart and takes attendance every day. For summer class if you miss more than 1 day you will get an F. He also deducts points for even seeing a phone out not being used. He knows his stuff but I would find another professor
I took this class as a 3 week. There was one group paper, group presentation over the paper, and individual paper, and then the final. The class is extremely easy and most people who didn't study for the test got an 80 or higher. There is really no excuse for doing bad in this class and I don't think he's a bad teacher at all.
Prof is very blunt, don't ask questions if you don't want a rude response. Strict no phones, he stops lecturing and causes a scene. Grades are pretty rough I worked harder than most classes a barely pulled a C. He does a little bit of story telling but not enough to throw off the class. DOOR IS LOCKED AT 8AM EXACTLY DON'T BE LATE HE WON"T TAKE ANY
Terrible. He expects you to only study for his class. Test are pulled from 3 sources meanwhile he only teaches you one. Expects you to read the 75 pages for one chapter. I would never take him again. His tests are ridiculous. I can't stand him. Avoid at all costs.
Makes it really hard to get an A. Literally impossible too. Anything is fair game for the tests. Honestly can not wait to be done with this class. Very annoying.
If I could give him a 0 I would. WORST TEACHER AT UNT. Lectures are PAINFUL. I hope he gets fired.
Incredibly boring and stuck in the past Professor... I took this class as a last option. I took out a calculator the other day during his horrible lectures and was penalized. I was taking note a flash cards the other day and was charged up! Charged up, like I was doing something bad. He demanded to know what the notes were for. Unfair grader,
Too hard on grading. Turn in your assignment in the same class period it was due, but after it was picked up? -10 points. Does not clearly state what will be on the tests, grades too hard. This class should be more presenting than anything else, yet all he does is make you present once per semester and everything else is English 1301/2.
Avoid at all costs. He does not care about students. I have never hated a teacher more in my life.
Pointless lectures, DIFFICULT exams, impossible to get an A. DO NOT TAKE. This class is about professional communication and he is anything but professinal. BEWARE
He emailed me after class one day and said I was on technology when I wasn't. In fact, my phone and watch were put away in my backpack before I even entered the classroom. He deducted 10 points from my final grade, making me get a B instead of an A. After reaching out several times, neither him nor his TA responded. Terrible professor.
WORST teacher at UNT!!!!! Got -10 points for having an apple watch on. Only talks about himself and says "For that matter" after every sentence!! DO NOT TAKE HIM! Loves to make college students lives hard for no reason besides his own pleasure. Oh and also wont reply to any of your emails!!
Hes such a boring professor. It sucks that his class is a hour and 30 mins because you will lose attention span in his class as soon as he starts lecturing. Always off topic, very slow paced. Hes passable for sure! His tests are difficult a
Takes off points if he even sees a phone. Emails students telling them to stop wearing their Apple watches to class. Says for that matter 40 times per lecture. Tells a million stories that dont really relate to the lecture. Says hes a gentle person but embarrasses students in front of the whole class.
He will never respond to any emails you send him no matter how important/urgent. His lectures are a waste of time that arent very helpful on the test. The tests are ridiculously detailed so you need to memorize the handouts, notes, and lectures. Doesnt round even for an 89.5 but he does it based on points so he wont help.
It is nearly impossible to make an A in this class, but I managed to do it. He doesn't respond to emails & his TA was super rude! This class had no business being so difficult! Luckily there were no papers or tests (except the final which was only a tiny % of your grade). Needless to say, I did actually learn quite a bit, and this class was useful.
He doesn't respond to emails. So you are technically all alone. The exercises can be tough so you have to study thoroughly. The assignments are straightforward if you follow the instructions. It is very hard to make an A because the exam, quizzes and certain exercises are very tough. His TA makes announcements every now regarding certain tasks.
Less about objective business communication knowledge and more about subjective life values, opinions, and behaviors. Surviving his lectures involves sifting out his subject material from arbitrary, unrelated life themes. Dr. Insley is unrelatable, technologically illiterate, and incredibly old fashioned.
Overall, I think hes a good professor. Before class he always asks if anyone has any questions, and is always willing to stay and talk after. We only had a few key assignment and his instructions for them were a bit confusing, but if you ask him he explains them. The only real negative is that hes a electronic dictator, and will call you out.
Literally sucks, He is the worst professor I have ever had and is SO boring. Everything is easy until the final exam which is weighted incredibly high. Basically your grade only relies on that and he does not even teach what is on the test. Horrible. Do. Not. Take.
I have taken much more difficult classes before and this class really isnt hard BUT the final exam is ridiculous in every sense possible. The weighting is just atrocious and he doesnt even teach the stuff on the exam. I cannot emphasize enough how awful it is that an exam worth pretty much the whole class has a minimal amount of course content.
Horrible Professor. Final Exam is so heavily weighted it basically determines your course grade, and he doesn't teach anything on it. Lectures are pointless and he will go off topic every five minutes, tends to bring up controversial topics. Does not tolerate any type of electronics and will call you out in front of everyone. Do not recommend!!!
TERRIBLE. Not one thing is taught to prepare you for the make or break final exam. Avoid this professor at all costs possible.
Lectures were extremely boring.
Do not take this professor at all costs !! He is the worst professor that I have ever had. He is so petty about his past and his lectures have nothing to do with the test and quizzes. He does not allow technology at all or picture taking of notes. He has a temper and if you mess up, he will yell at you in front of everyone. DO NOT TAKE !!
Get ready for story time! Prof Insley loves to brag about his past life. But, wait the worst is yet to come. NO PHONES!! Cannot have it out or anything. No laptops. No smartwatches. Anything digital is a sin. DO NOT TAKE!! You have been well warned. This class should actually be really useful, but it needs a different instructor. UNT plz read these
This professor is never on topic, has a bad attitude towards his students. Very cocky about what he has done in life. Electronics are banned even though it’s the 21st century. Stuck in the past and very delusional at times. Don’t take.
Class has no structure at all. Professor is never on topic. Very rude to students. No electronics can be visible. Doesn’t even send announcements on canvas if something happens. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! North Texas really needs to review these.
He is intolerant, unwilling to adapt to technology, inflexible, and, incredibly up his own ass. His lectures are something from a business class from 1971. Also, he has a tendency to say rather off color things in class, including repeatedly commenting on the appearance of several female students, and expressing VERY distasteful Auschwitz views.
This guy is the worst teacher/professor I have ever taken in my life. Anything electronic is forbidden. He waste time, talks about useless things and seems unknowledgeable in the topic he teaches. NEVER take him, choose another class and professor.
Yes, he does not allow gadgets in class, but he is a chill professor. You can just sit back in class and listen without taking heavy notes. There are grades based on participation, but it is just an ungraded worksheet in class where there are no right or wrong answers. I believe that he grades our participation through the names in the worksheets.
Electronics are not allowed in class, including laptops. However, notes are not needed in this class as most of the grades are participation, papers, and presentations. He has a lot of experience in this field and hearing the stories is always a joy. Just sit back, if you listen you'll get a thing or two out of this class.
old boomer. He does has some weird ass rules about technology in class but his lectures are so goddamn easy that its whatev. He goes off on tangents about 9/11 or ww2 but he's a great storyteller. He can be hella out of pocket so if ur offended easily don't sign up. TA doesn't watch the projects. U could turn in a video of u shi**ing and get a 100
AHHHHHHHHHH PROFFFFFFF INSLEYYYYYYYYYYY AHHHHHHHHH F*******KKKKKK COMEEEEEEE TOOOOOOOO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE BAAABBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY OHHHHHHHHHHH YUHHHHHHHHHHH
You will think you are getting an A+ going into the final, but he never teaches anything on it and most people fail causing their grades to drop significantly. I had all absences excused, but they still effected my grade so do your best to go to class. Classwork makes up 30% of your grade, and even if you are excused, he will still count it as a 0.
Your grade will change drastically in the final week of the class. Expect to drop a letter grade. Attendance is everything to him. Even if you get them all excused BY HIM, your grade will suffer. If you do not care about making an A, then he isn't too awful.
I think Prof. Insley should stop teaching this course. I had an A overall grade which just DRAMATICALLY tanked cause of his in-class exercises (which you are absent, there's no making that up) and final. This course was far too easy but was made to be so difficult cause of him. Like seriously consider taking this class with someone else.
Pro: Professor Insley is an easy grade, difficult to receive lower than a B for assignments. Con: Class is mandatory. The subject matter is redundant, you've heard most of the material before, the professor just requires participation, but hates tech. Robert gave up on teaching 20 years ago and now only likes to hear himself talk about himself.
HATES TECHNOLOGY. Learned how to text this year. I swear I don't get this man.
It is impossible to get below an A+ in this class. Just attend the class and do the 5 homework that are ridiculously easy. He doesn't teach much and just tells stories but at least that's an easy A+!
Try to take with someone else if you can. He hates tech and threatens to drop you a letter grade if he sees it out. Also the final barely even matches the class. The class is super mandatory even one misses class unexcused and you will get 0's on in class assignments. The lectures are mainly just him telling old stories or about hating gen z.
He isn't the worst professor I had, but there are some things I think he can improve on such as improving on lectures or uploading them on canvas for us to look at instead of copying to make it easier. He should also create a review or a study guide for the exam. He tends to go off topic but he's aware and will go back to what's relevant.
Just talks to talk, instead of teaching during class he gives his worldviews and babbles about random stuff. If I have to come to class at least help teach the material. Also says we don't need to be treated like children but has a strict no technology rule like we can't be responsible to make sure we pay attention.
Please take the other reviews seriously! Firstly, he hates technology so don't even think about taking your phone out to even check the time because he'll deduct points. He gives us class assignments and if you miss a day, you won't get to remake it at all. Also, expect to suddenly drop a letter grade because the exam was nothing like class.
Very easy class. Attendance does matter b/c he gives in class exercises, which counts towards your final grade. Hates technology and will deduct points for being seen with any tech. Study for the syllabus quiz and final exam, they are weighted very heavily. The final is essentially a grammar test, so study your grammar rules and you will be fine.
Do not take his class and if you do don't take it like I did m-w-f try to keep it to 2 times a week. Strict no technology policy, have to attend class or you may miss assignments and final is dumb since you dont learn any info in class on it. Wish UNT actually made this class interesting and useful.
Awful. Complete POS. All technology is banned. He stops everything and loses his mind if he sees as much as an earbud. Doesn't respond to emails in a timely manner. I watch the clock every lecture because I want to blow my brains out. AGONIZINGLY BORING. Take with literally anyone else.
Professor hates technology - no phones allowed! Easy class, just attend and complete assignments. The final is tough, so use unstuck AI and the textbook to prepare. Overall, manageable if you follow the rules.
Frankly, Dr. Insley is a yapper and hates technology. However, his class is very easy if you show up on-time and pay attention. You can have up to 8 unexcused absences or else he will automatically fail you. There are only a handful of online assignments that are relatively easy, plus in-class assignments that you must show up on-time for.
