A man with a wealth of knowledge on western civilization, and the world's social history itself. He has my utmost respect; I in fact own one of his published works "Manipulating the Ether..." and intend to read it at some point.

Recommended! Not only is Professor Brown appealing to look at, he provides a very well informed lecture. His lectures are very passionate, showing his enthusiasm in what he teaches.
Good teaching skills, but gives way to much information. He often gets off the subject. Test are very hard and there is so much info that you have no idea what to study for the test.
The best teacher at FLCC. Has high standard and tests are demanding, but really great lecturer and extremely helpful both in and out of class. Has a passion for the subejct that makes learning history exciting. If A+
Very hard class, but GREAT teacher, i like him alot! quite a cutie too! ;)
One of my favs. Great lecturer and has lots of enthusiasm. He is also very helpful and is concerned abut student learning. Helps that he is also a good looker1
i found him dry and boring, but he was a good teacher overall. get harmon if you want a bit more pizazz in your history classes.
An amazing teacher. He actually teaches as if the class wasn't a group of idiots. I really recomend him as he will help prepair you for anyplace else, and he has a cool outlook on life.

Facinating Lectures. Thought I would hate this class and ended up loving it. I could listen all day.

Again, best teacher at FLCC. Former Syracuse faculty, with prolonged field study. Considered to be at the top of his field in regards to the Flu Pandemic of 1918. Has written several books. Moderate expectations, but obviously truly enjoys history. A nice guy, too.
The worst class i ever took at FLCC was Mr. Browns. I don't know why he doesn't just move to Europe he talks about being over there more than any thing. There is nothing worse than those stupid quiz's where you have 20 questions in a row that are all asking which is not which is not. I would never take another one of his classes again or let my kids take his class.
best professor at this school. knows his stuff. very informative and great lectures. take him even if you don't like history. made the class enjoyable.
first class all the way...makes history come alive (if he wasn't so young I wold think he was there!). Hard working and dedicated. Would take all of his classes if i could have.
History is not my favorite subject, but he manages to make it come alive. He can get a bit long winded and off topic at times, though, and his tests are fiendish.
Without a doubt, one of the BEST instructors that I've ever had. He makes history interesting by tying art, culture and history into a total "story"! It's not just memorizing dates and facts - it's understanding why certain events happened!!
Super-duper professor! Hard working and loves his subject. You have to study hard for his tests, but hey, this is college. Highly recomended. FLCC is lucky to have him: a PHD and many publications under his belt.
take the class: great teacher and great to look at (total hotness!!!!)
Not a seminar, it's straight lecture, tons of info, take notes and study! Brilliant teacher with a phenomenal depth of knowledge, he has my highest respect and challanged me more than anyone else. tests are indeed fiendishly hard, brutal, and left me exhausted from writing at top speed. Don't miss the chance to take a class with him, he's awesome.
I love this man.
The BEST teacher at this college! Knows his stuff and works hard to make sure students understand the material. A scholar and a gentleman.
Was very enthusiastic but showed a bias toward material presented. Not very even handed with some of the religious material covered
Awesome knowledge and passion for what he teaches.
Excellent all round teacher. Dr. Brown is probably the best professor at this college.
I found myself indulging in every word he said. The class was very intense and his lecture seem to pull you into them. His style drew you into the diverse cause of each event , using art, film, text, and lectures the material never became dry and it gave me a new found spark in which I had forgotten as a student. Will seek him out in the spring!
Best teacher at Finger Lakes. They are so lucky to have him on their faculty. Devoted to his subject and very passionate. Friendly but very professional. Great guy and great teacher.
Dr. Brown is very knowledgeable in his subject. I would not recommend him though if you have trouble concentrating in class when a teacher has speech flaws. One class Dr. Brown said "right?" 107 times! If this would bother you don't take the class. He also seems to really like himself and talks about his travels and his girlfriend/wife a lot!
Now THIS is a college professor. I loved him in western civ. Too bad he i son sabatical this semester. i will take his Hist of Disease course in the spring!
Robert Brown is a true college professor. He is a solid teacher and he loves being a professor. The guy is wicked smart. The class is difficult and he'll push you hard but you'll be better for it. Has all kinds of degrees, experience, expertise, and knowledge of history.
Professor Brown is the best teacher at the school, hands down he is one of the most knowledgeable scholars i have come across in my young collegiate career. I switched to him as my advisory after taking his class and he is the reason that i am perusing a teaching degree at the university i am currently at.
boring and way to in depth for non majors in his subject area
FLCC is so lucky to have Dr. Brown. He is knowlegable and very passionate about history. Very serious and very helpful. Hope he never leaves!
keept ot his word and raised grade as long as you continued to raise your test grades/performance. tests are imposibile and classes are boring but overall he got the job done without killing the GPA
A really great teacher. Passionate, extremely knowledgable and professional at all times. If you expect an easy A w/o much effort take Harmon. If you want to really learn something from a well-respected expert, take Dr. Brown.
Right on! Makes history come alive. Hands down, the best professor at FLCC.
Great teacher. Wish I could take all of Dr. Brown's courses.
Excellent teacher. Enthusiastic, helpful and smart. Probably the best prof I have ever had (or will ever have)!
Brown Rocks!!!
Amazing lecturer. He clearly loves the course material, and likes students who do the work, and do it well. His class is challenging, but worth it. I would definitely take it again if I could.
Western Civ with Brown. He LOVES to talk. Lecture based class. I honestly never took a single note and got a B+ in the class. I would fall asleep everyday and as long as you do the take home tests and study the note packets he gives you, you're golden. Boring yet extremely intelligent. He'll love you if you participate in this lectures
really super teacher. his lectures are AMAZING and real. hands down the best profesor at this college...
Definitely the best professor I've ever had! He has inspired me to switch my major! He goes in depth, so if you like history, he's amazing! I've taken two of his classes and will definitely take his third! I will recommend him to anyone!
this guy is amazing his power points keep you interested he sincerely enjoys what he teaches and inspires you to enjoy it also. I would recommend his classes to everyone. and if you have trouble i am the tutor for his classes so just ask him and he will set you up with my help
An excellent professor. Extremely helpful, professional, easy to understand and very flexible.
My favorite professor. It's great learning history from and actual historian.
I am taking the shaping of western society II with Dr. Brown and he is the most inspiring teacher I have ever had. He makes lectures interesting, and really knows what he is talking about. I would suggest to anybody to take a class with them.
He is Amazing!!! It was refreshing to see a professor who actually enjoys and it passionate about what he is teaching! I hated history before his class, and now after taking it with him I actually took another one of his classes both I & II of Shaping western society! He is overall the man. Recommended for everyone!!!!!
Truly outstanding. Probably the best teacher at Finger Lakes
two words needed to describe Doc Brown: THE BEST
AWESOME, BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! THANK YOU DR. BROWN FOR YOUR DEDICATION & PASSION TO EDUCATION :-)
Simply the best teacher i have had at FLCC. if you are to take a history class of any kind you want him to teach it!
An FLCC gem. Dr. Brown is the man. To have him as a professor is an honor in itself. He and his wife are the most influential teachers at flcc. If you are going to flcc, be sure to take at least one class with Dr. Brown
He is literally the BEST professor I have ever had hands down. Incredible passion for what he does. I loved him and went out of my way to take a second class with him. His class is the reason I'm majoring in history. Only 8am class I ever enjoyed going to. If you havent taken him youre doing a disservice to yourself.
Never boring, easy (if you do the work) and flexible. I wish I time to take more of his classes. He's an amazing professor!!!!
Wow I am IMPRESSED. He is really a great teacher.
I am very IMPRESSED. Great teacher. Keep on rocking.
Did not like him. Super boring class literally all you do is sit and listen to him talk.
Great teacher and probably the best hsitory class I've ever taken. Youll definitely get a lot out of this class.
Informative course and material. Excellent delivery of information. Structured method of information retention, reading, unit quizzes, written take home quizzes, and essay exams. Pay attention to his enthusiastic tale of history. Top notch guy, pleasure to converse with.
I went into Dr. Brown's Wes Civ 2 class with no real interest in history. A semester later, I registered for his 200 level disease class as an elective. He makes history interesting with intriguing facts and a clear look at broad concepts you cannot get from a textbook. His assessments are challenging, something we need more of at a junior college.
Dr. Brown was an amazing teacher. He prints out the important material and goes over it in class. Those who are not into lecture like classes should not take this class. I found the information very insightful and he even allowed for us to doodle because for some it's the best way to grasp information as it's spoken to us. Excellent use of maps
If you have no interest in history like i did then you shouldn't take it because it is difficult material. The class isnt to bad but real boring so unless you enjoy lectures and history it isnt the class for you.
Truly outstanding professor. Probably FLCC's best. He knows his stuff and is extremely concerned about his students. Wish all profs were this good.
Love this professor! Took his west civ and am just completing his art history.
The best history class I ever have taken. Would definitely take another course with this man.
tough grader, in depth lectures
He's really a great teacher. I really enjoyed his class and I wish I could take another class with him. He makes the lecture very well organized and easy to understand.
I was not much of a history buff, but Professor Brown changed that. Loved going to his class, he is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches, and makes your time with him worth while. He did require a term paper, and two in class essay exam, was not a fan, but he gave you more than enough time and material to get your self prepared.
His lectures are long, but interesting. He has a passion for history and strives to make it contagious. As long as you study the outlines, you'll do well on the tests and essays. He gives lots of opportunities for extra credit, like additional take-home tests and showing movies outside of class.
loved the class, but he graded harshly almost to harshly for the community college standards i though.
Great teacher, very passionate about his subject made lectures interesting and gave non-opinionated unbiased views and allows students to draw their own conclusions wish i was able to take another course with him next semester, would recommend him to anyone who loves history or even anyone who would like to learn to love it
Best teacher ever. you have to try to fail. he even gives you all the material you need in an outline. hes the kind and will always help you out. just show up enjoy the lecture because there pretty outstanding and study and you will do great. hes amazing!!!!
there are no words. he is an amazing dude i wish i could give him more than five stars.
I think he is a great teacher.
Probably the best teacher at FLCC. Def the best history teacher I have ever had. Knows his stuff and is very passionate about it.
Amazing dude and fantastic teacher.
Dr. Brown is by far the best professor I've ever had! He is an amazing instructor that presents material in a way that gets everyone interested. His passion really shows & is infectious. He is great about answering questions in and out of class. Dr. Brown is always up for discussions on historical topics and he gave me great advice for my studies!
Lots of reading projects might be hard if you have lots of homework heavy classes. Hes pretty funny always makes class interesting
Dr. Brown was an amazing teacher! He is very passionate about history, and that is evident in his lectures. He cares about his students, and helps them as much as he can. He does give essay exams and final paper, but will prepare you for both. I'm not a history major, but his class was the best one I've taken at FLCC. I would strongly recommend!
Professor Brown is one of my favorite professors at FLCC. He is so passionate about History which makes his lectures more interesting and fun. He really can engage anyone without making it boring. He gives lots of extra credit opportunities that are very easy. Overall, he is an amazing professor and I highly recommend him
Professor Brown is a teacher that literally makes every other teacher seem like they are not good. If you have a chance to take any of his classes even if you do not enjoy history do it cause trust me you will after his class. Phenomenal professor, I do not understand how he is not a Harvard Professor; very knowledgeable. I highly recommend him.
One of the best professors at FLCC. Very passionate about history and teaching and really cares that you learn and enjoy the material, so lectures are never dull and is always willing to answer questions and provide extra help if needed. Lots of tests but they are simple if you pay attention and show up to class.
He's a great teacher, would have given a 5 if he didn't have a ridiculously large ego. Just take the class and learn don't try to talk/ be friendly with him.
Dr. Brown is a solid professor. I really enjoyed his classes and the online structure was simple to follow and plenty of material to help you with your classwork. Very easy to follow along with but just difficult enough to learn from everything.
Dr. Brown is truly a funny and knowledgeable professor. He is very kind and cares about his students. I've never been one for history classes, but I genuinely liked this class and his teaching. I might take another class with him if I can fit it into my schedule in later semesters.
Great professor. Would highly recommend Early Weetern Civilizations
Dr. Brown's lectures are amazing. I genuinely enjoyed this class, and will choose him for the next history class I have to take. He very obviously loves history and that comes through in his lectures. I am taking this class online, so I am not in a classroom setting. Lectures are long, take LOTS of notes! Don't get a 1 subject notebook.
A little rude and over bearing for a base level history class he knocks grades for the smallest thing and his test material isnt very accurate my father grew up in Europe most his life and he was dumbfounded on some of the questions I got wrong which says something.
Definitely the best history teacher I have ever had. Maybe the best professor at FLCC. No one is more knowledgeable and well respected. Loves his subject and cares for his students. I needed help on an assignment and he called me over the weekend to walk me through it. Goes above and beyond. Just finishing my second course with him. Recommend!
Doc Brown knows the material he's teaching; what makes him stand out is that he LIKES teaching it. I've taken every class he offers at FLCC and I wish I could take them all again. Cool guy, very professional, wants his students to succeed. *Do not put off the term paper!* And always try to go to events he puts on, they're pretty cool.
He gave me an extra day on the term paper after my paper deleted itself so that i could rewrite it! He also made me fall in love with history again, he is very passionate about history & it make you also feel that way. His lectures can be long but they are very informative! Over all would definitely take his class again!
This professor gives ridiculously long lectures. About 2-4 hour lectures. You will definitely learn a lot. But between the reading , lectures and work load. It is a difficult class. He does offer extra cred from time to time
He is a pretty good professor and you can tell that he really loves what he teaches and that he's very passionate and knowledgeable about it. However, I will admit that his lectures are very long and sometimes it can take a while to get through all of them. Other than that though, he's a great professor!
Wonderful teacher. Extremely knowledgeable, with captivating lectures. Great classroom dynamic. Always looked forward to his class.
The workload is heavy; lectures in total will take you about 10+ hours. I became frustrated because of how much he expected us to do for a base-level history class. He tries to use big words, ancient old YouTube videos, and talks about how smart he is constantly. If you end up taking this class, good luck.
Excellent instructor! I originally was not into history but Doc Brown definitely turned me onto it. He answers emails immediately even on weekends. Everyone I know at Flick loves this professor.
He replies to emails fast, but he seems a bit snobby. The lectures are long, about 3-4 hours.
My favorite professor of all time. Am taking my second course with him this semester. Very helpful and knowledgeable. He is a great mentor and has a sincere concern for all his students. Don't miss the chance to take a class with him.
Robert Brown is a great professor and his love and expertise in history shows in his work on campus and his personal experience.
