Very nice guy, but teaching methods leave something to be desired. Lectures felt like reading straight from the book, and labs did not seem to have much to do with the lectures. On the plus side, he was always willing to help and provided good study aids online.

He really knows what he's talkin about and he's passionate about it. You do really need to read and understand the material to do well. The tests aren't that tricky but u must kno what you're talking about. Sometimes he mumbles, but usually he's pretty clear and can explain things in multiple ways. He really does teach, so learn!
He's so down to earth and an obvious family man... and it really comes across in his teaching. He's a very passionate person.
not fun
It was a fun class and he's not a hard teacher. I learned a lot and there's not a heavy workload. Take his class.
a very subjective (not too useful) review site of a teacher... how is this helpful, or fair? hmmmmm..... i wonder who posted this?
Talks to you like you are a Biologist. Expects you to already have a backgroud in Biology when you enter his class, even if it is Biology 101. Tries to trick you on a test.
I am glad I got him for a teacher. Bio101 covers alot of stuff and it is important if taking any more life science classes. His grading is straight forward & fair But do read each test question 3 times because it is easy to make dumb mistakes. Powerpoint is boring but his lab lectures are awesome
Everyone has pretty much has described Bob Johnson. He is very passionate about biology. In returns make you want to know more. A great guy and willing to help anytime. He is a great professor.......I wish they could all be like this!
Learned alot. Tests were easy and from the book. Papers due were relevant and not hard to write.
Well..I learned all about his kids, where he's from, where he's worked, what kind of music he likes, and etc. Would be alot better class if he could stay on topic instead of constantly meandering towards his personal life. One chapter tends to take 2or3 class prds, which is not very productive since you only met 3 times a week. Nice guy/OK teacher
good teacher, straightforward, really works hard to get points across. He tries to teach to those who are there to learn, and to try to get those not interested to become so. There often to help during the day. grades fairly, and really tries to do what he can to help. He helped me a lot! Thanks!
Bob is a fantastic teacher, He is always willing to help. He is awesome about teaching the test material during lecture. Don't take this class thinking it will be easy, there are some difficult concepts, but if you dedicate the necessary time to it, you will do well.

teacher was helpful. course covered a lot of material and was very busy but college is. asked teacher if I had any questions and bob was helpful.
Good teacher. Always on time and interactive. Questions on tests fair based on material and lectures. I tried to be in class every day so as to get the materials better understood. He is very helpful and polite. He is passionate about student learning too. He prepared me for A&P.
if you need a science lab for transfer take this class!
Very cool guy. Is very interactive with the students, though can go of on side topics, but they always relate to the material somehow. Seems interested in helping students be better global citizens and become more aware of what is going on with the planet, which is refreshing. Overall excellent professor!
what a great guy he is such a good teacher
Found his teaching style to be rambling and ultimately unclear. His quizzes appear to have been written by him, and at points are not only confusing but purposefully misleading. His ideals for his students are admirable, while his own teaching style and grading system is a bit hypocritical.
I don't think I've ever had an instructor who has been as knowledgeable and passionate about their subject as Bob Johnson! He truly cares about Biology and wants his students to as well. He is random and abstract, but somehow it all comes together? Is he hot? Yes, for sure. Bob possesses a certain sexual je ne sais quoi that is bit disconcerting! :)
Nice dude but he rambles a lot, wasting class and lab time. helpful, but not clear at all. labs are your homework, not difficult if you do the reading. he believes youre all going into the med field, so he makes test questions tricky, to challenge you to think. nice dude like i said but take somebody else
Consistently off topic, does not keep to syllabus, does not give any sort of extra credit or make-ups for those who did not learn through his meandering and lazy teaching. Do not take unless you're looking for boring and frustrating way to lower your GPA.
Very knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate but not a fantastic teacher. He frequently interrupts his own lectures to go into politics, religion, his family, etc. and seems to try to goad those students who he thinks are in opposition to his political agenda. Likes to ramble about the evils of religion. Quizzes, written by students, are useless.
One of the easiest Biology teachers you will ever come across. I wouldn't recommend taking him if you are a science major. He points that out in the very beginning,"this is a non majors Biology class." All quizes are online and he goes over them before you take them. Final was also online.
Awesome professor! I LOVE HIM! Take him, he will change your world (the biology one anyway) :D
Bob is an awesome professor. I love him! He rocked my biology world!
I have never had a class at 8am that I attended every session of let alone be on time to, but because of Bob I was excited to wake up in the morning and go to class because he made learning fun. I can honestly say that in this class I learned the most I have learned in a college class. He changed my outlook of Biology and life.
Mr Johnson is a straight forward teacher. The class schedule was given at the start so there are no surprises. I took him for online Biology this summer and really enjoyed the class. It didn't take as much time to do as most of my other classes. I hope to take him again for my other science classes.
Professor Johnson Rocks! Even though I was only able to meet him via online classes, he was still just as present and willing to help, as any other teacher in a lecture class, would be. He broke it down for you and made the learning fun and easy!! You'll be missed Prof Johnson! Hope to run into you someday, while at Central. =D
Bob defines awesome! He keeps his lectures are amazing and his labs rocked my socks off! Dude seriously digs his subject. He's not your average professor. It's like being taught by a really good friend. BE WARNED....he can be all over the place when it comes to lecture. Overall he's an awesome!
Lets just say that you will be teaching yourself the entire quarter. Johnson lectures about random stuff the entire class session that he doesn't leave time to actually do the labs, nor do his lectures actually follow the material for the course. If you learn well on your own then this is the class for you!
he taught from the book, and with power points and software (online), and tried (I think) to connect the material of the class in to real life. alot of students came unprepared to class and lab and alot only came for tests how can someone expect to learn if they are not prepared or studying? i tried, i learned. quit whining.
Bob, as a person, is fantastic. As an instructor, not so much. I am an almost 4.0 student with high math and chem classes and struggled in this class. Not because the material itself was hard, but because his teaching was all over the place. My advice? READ THE BOOK AND KNOW IT BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS. That was what saved me! He has Tricky questio
As an older returning student Johnson taught the material of the book by connecting it with current events in life. Prep is mandatory, as in lab or lecture. I understood him fine. Great teacher overall. I don't understand kids not coming to class.
If you do the prep the lectures are entertaining & bring the materiel to another level. There's no assigned homework but the readings are more than enough. Very enjoyable class with the right challenge level:)
Not a very good teacher. If your not a good self learner then he is not for you because during lecture he goes off and explains random material that isnt even on the test. he is a nice person, but as a teacher i wouldnt take him again.
I took this as a hybrid course and it was tough but still a great class. Lecture was online but I wish it was in class because Bob knows his stuff and is funny! We took quizzes on the labs instead of lab reports which sucks if you are a poor test taker. All the tests were online and they were tough. Good class but take it with lecture if you can!
Great teacher! He knows his stuff and applies real-life analogies to help understand the info better. Took as a hybrid course and liked it, but lectures would've been more helpful. Have to think on your tests. Not just spitting back info. Overall, great class! Deff recommend this professor.
This class was some what helpful but when lecturing he would always ramble about random things that would have little to nothing related to the topic. the quiz's and test are hard and his is bad at reviewing them.
I took his Envio Bio class online during the summer and I didn't allow myself enough time to go over all the book material, but towards the instructor he was very helpful. I got 100 on all the labs and if I didn't understand he would explain (in a timely manner.) I am taking his Bio 100 Class and it is the same thing. READ THE BOOK! :)
Seriously this class is ridiculous with him teaching. Its time to step down for a teacher that actually wants students to succeed. Not to burn and need to repeat. I will definitely be going to the dean of science. Do not take his class if you have a low tolerance for ignorance. I suggest online.
If you read the material beforehand, his lectures are pretty entertaining and helpful, as he branches off on a lot of topics. His labs are really fun and he never requires a write-up. His tests are tricky though. You really have to read each question carefully. He's really passionate about the subject, and his attitude gets you into the material.
This Winter 2013 I took his online survey of biology. His class was very easy, and I had no need for the textbook so do not buy. He posts power-points of every chapter also. His "labs" are usually either short papers, or mini quizzes that hardly take any time out. Only negative is that he doesnt submit the grades for assignments until last minute.
Attend lectures and read before lectures, it really helps. Exams and quizzes are critical thinking but easy if you actually understand the material. Don't be afraid to ask for help, he's really approachable. Sometimes he gets off track but if a professor only talked about the material, the class would be really boring. Highly recommend Johnson.
Johnson is very helpful if you ask. his test are tricky, so you have to pay attention to lecture and in lab, also read test questions very carefully you can easily get confused. he gets off topic a lot but he's a great teacher and his quirkiness helps make the class fun
Awesome!
Great teacher. Nice and funny guy. His test are hard, you must know the material front to back. If you do not like or know biology, you might have a hard time like myself. Overall he is a great guy. Total hippie.
Nice guy, I think, I only talked with him through email. But this was my first online class and it took him weeks to answer 1 email even though I sent several. its like he disappears from the world for DAYS! it stressful! class is simple though. I had to call people from admins. and faculty just to get ahold of him. even then it took him 2 days!
Johnson is one of my favorite teachers thus far! I am just finishing his Environmental Bio class and I loved it! He is a very friendly and encouraging person and actually made me interested in Biology. I just signed up for his survey of Bio class because I liked him so much! Definitely recommend him(:
Mr. Johnson is a bad teacher. He lectures on random stuff and then expects students to know all the stuff from the book on his test (which are quite difficult.) His questions are VERY poorly written and not easy to understand. Take someone else.
Wow! What an outstanding course and instructor! Professor Johnson made the online experience come alive with at home labs. Quizzes are a challenge, read the material and take notes, then read it again before taking the quiz. He is very available for questions, my only wish is that I took this course on campus as I'm certain his lectures are lively!
he goes over exams and quizzes with students, takes his time in lecture, everything is set straight, I had no issues at all. he always asks if anyone has any questions. i have no idea how anyone could fail his class. I don't get students that don't come to class.
Worst professor to take online course from. Quizzes couldn't be more confusing. Not in the sense that they are difficult, he just words them terribly. You have to do a community service project in the online class, which does not make much sense. Do NOT waste your time and money. Turn away fast and NEVER look back. Greatly disappointed.
Terrible teacher. Tried to trick you on every test and quiz. Doesn't care about you passing the class. I did worse in this class (hybrid) than I did in my a&p classes. Do NOT recommend.
the in class lecture was always different and interesting, sometimes I get lost but if you ask a question he is more than willing to help and answer any questions. I loved the lab section very enjoyable. I would recommend him to anyone who loves hands on work.
Awesome professor! Easy to ask questions and he makes things actually interesting
If you ever get the chance to take one of his classes, take it!! He makes biology actually interesting and applies it to events currently happening. One of the best teachers I have ever had!!!!!
I should have known when I read the course syllabus that this was a mistake. I don't know if english was his second language or maybe spelling just isn't his thing but I almost needed an interpreter anything he wrote. The course is easy, but he will lose half of the assignments you turn in, don't bother asking questions because he won't respond.
Worst instructor I've had of any course. Completely disorganized course with mismatched schedules. Lectures during lab were long, frequently off topic, and left us little time to accomplish the lab tasks. Handouts contained errors, misspellings, and poor grammar. Often berated us during lab for our poor time management and quality of work.
I'm writing for the sake of future students who are thinking of taking this course. He is the worst instructor I ever had. His syllabus and worksheets didn't make any sense, he expects us to memorize the whole functions and structures of the animals in a small amount of time, and he doesn't help at all. He grades hard for lab practicals and papers.
The man knows he stuff. He challenges you to understand the application of information rather than the memorization. His tests are not the easiest but that with the expectation that we're college students and will take the time to study. Do the work and get an honest grade.
Do not take unless you are ready to learn everything yourself. The assignments are basically explaining biology functions and how it works in the body...The way you learn is by reading EVERY page in the textbook. If you can teach yourself then go ahead and take this course...But beware, you are on your own. 3 hour community service project as well.
This teacher is HORRIBLE. He tries to trick students with every quiz and paper. He does not care about his students and he takes weeks to reply to emails. I have a 3.5 GPA and I am relatively good at sciences. I am going to fail this class and lower my GPA just because he is so picky about how things are submitted (and I have NEVER failed a class).
I took johnson for two classes and and he was sincere and helpful working with me. If you read and study and work with him and if you have any questions the course was not that difficult yeah he has a paper due and has people do volunteer work but this is college. people need to grow up and just do the work instead of complaining all of the time.
This teacher made the class easy to move through. Always responded promptly and gave any extra advise or help you needed. You needed to do your do-diligence to pass his class but this is college level so to be expected. I enjoyed his class
While Bob is an interesting guy, not sure I'd recommend taking his class. The lab/lecture schedules didn't match at all & there was rarely enough time to finish labs in class. He would alternate between berating our use of time, how we were going to fail in life, & stating that he was here for us. Interesting guy & material, but way unorganized.
This was an amazing course. Rob is SO extremely helpful in every aspect. He does not settle for less than your best, a trait I really admire in any professor. Yes, you will have to work hard for your grade, but the learning is all worth it!
Worst bio class, does not reply to emails, poorly written quizzes and exams, does not care about students. Professor johnson messed up my grade and even after i contacted him and he said he would fix it, he didnt have the care to do so. I had to contact the dean to have it fixed. My suggestion is to not take this class from this guy.
All quizzes and tests are online. You cover a great deal of information in this course. If you are sensitive, don't take this course. He is opinionated about certain topics. and tends to criticize religion(s). That being said, he's an interesting person and genuinely cares about his students.
Great teacher. He genuinely cares about students and your success, as I have heard him state in front of the class many times. Yes you will need to do three hours of some type of community service, don't think of this as punishment. It is motivation andor inspiration to get you involved in an extracurricular activity that is beneficial to you.
I learned a lot taking this course. Johnson is specific and the assignments are all varied and challenging (in a good way). I'd definitely take this course again if given the opportunity.
There is a lot of material to be covered in this class and he does not do a good job teaching it. I feel he spends more time talking about his personal issues rather that covering the materials that we need to learn. The tests are tricky as they are mainly true or false. He don't care about his students, this is the first class i've struggled in.
Didn't even use book. Only his power points
Didn't even use book. Only per pts
Very inspirational person. Can't say enough good things. Rewarding class. Learned a ton. I will be looking for Professor Johnson in future classes. One of my best school experiences. Thank you, Sir.
I would not recommend this teacher if you like your GPA. Lectures are unorganized and he goes on so many rabbit trails which arent even relevant. Labs are a waste of time... Didn't learn a thing from them and test questions are confusing. I got good grades but average test scores in my class were 65 and lower. I felt like I taught myself bio160.
If you don't read his free online text book, it is no way to pass this class.
Grades his challenging assignments very fairly and has a course set up that really caters to my learning, at least. I enjoyed what he had to say and what I got to do.
I enjoyed the course layout and weekly modules were helpful. textbook power points and videos that he added were great. I enjoyed weekly labs as they brought the text materials together with applied thinking. We had to write each week, but he gave me great feedback and seemed to truly care about whether i learned or not. Great class.
He's a great teacher it made Biology fun for me even though I was apprehensive about the class because my chemistry teacher was one of those teachers who felt like it was his job to cull people. It's a easy class as long as you go to lectures and read the book. I felt like he wants everyone to succeed in biology.
Good news! You can skip his lectures where he tends to color the material with his personal issues; ones probably best kept at home. Read his test questions carefully, he likes to think he's clever. He likes to single out people he doesn't like the look of. Keep your head down and laugh. The course and the teacher are a joke.
Horrible "teacher". Do not take classes from him. He teaches beginning classes as if they were courses strictly for sciencebiology majors. He has no flexibility what so ever and does not take into account that college students have other commitments. And if he wrote the textbook for the online class, he must have never taken English.
I took Professor Johnson's online course for Bio 100 and it was tough. He gives you access to his online textbook that you MUST read in order to pass. All of his quizzes are timed just right so if you do not know the information prior to taking the quiz, you will fail. Tough class but GREAT professor! Always willing to help in any way he can!
Honestly, the class was hard. Tons of tests, and his answers are super tricky so pay close attention. its almost like 2 part questions Although he is a tough teacher he is super sweet. He actually really cares for his students and it really shows. He is super understanding and is a positive person. If you want a challanging nice teacher take him.
While Professor Bob is "nice", his tests are tough, his test are even online, which you'd think would be easy. But- He has many, Many trick questions. And you cannot go back and redo an answer if you change your mind. He is also the most unorganized teacher I've ever seen. What is expected of you was so confusing. Also goes on too many tangents!
I've no idea who these other reviewers are talking about, but it's not the Robert Johnson at Fort Steilacoom. I'm in his class now, and he's wonderful! I love his lectures, where it's more like a conversation than a lecture. He really makes the students think and reason and consider. And he's extremely forgiving and down-to-earth. I love his class!
Mr. Johnson is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I was taking Biology 160 at another campus, and, though I'm a 3.95 student, I could not possibly pass the class with that other professor. Mr. Johnson is a blessing. He's fair, fun, and what every teacher should be; engaging, inspiring, informative. He's just a REAL teacher. Highly recommended.
-gets off topic 99% of time -no organization of topics or lectures -dances around questions -doesn't input exam grades until end -community service and research paper required but never talked about -pre & post lab quizzes online are very tricky Honestly he gets very excited to teach, he just isn't very good at connecting his info to his students.
Is always available for help. He works with me after exams n quizzes to clarify what I got wrong, uses a lot of analogies and relevant current science to apply the class's materials to help me understand. He cares to help students that do work with him, a lot do not come to class. I don't get the negatives here. Love the class. Best teacher ever.
I took Mr. Johnson's online BIO 100 course Fall '15. Book is provided online, which meant I had more $$ in my pocket. Expect 1 test and a 2 page lab write-up a week. For tests, read the chapter and use the glossary provided to your advantage! Tests and labs are open midnight Monday through 11:59pm Sunday. Great course! He actually cares!
I really liked him because he never once taught from his notes or book. He knew everything that he wanted to teach. Everything on the tests he went over. Only 4 tests and two of them he lets you use a partner and laptop. Labs are super easy but very informative. He rambles sometimes but still interesting and related to biology. The final was online
I took an online class and had the hardest time understanding the professor's instructions. I had to read things multiple times before I had even a basic idea of what he was trying to say. This class was incredibly confusing. The text book was free online, which was nice.
Professor Johnson is an amazing instructor. He also goes above and beyond for his students. I have been in school for almost two years now and Professor Johnson is by far, the most intelligent, funny, caring professor I have ever had!!!
I had him online, so I have no idea what he is like in person. But online, he was VERY helpful. His instructions can be a little confusing, but it's clear that he wants the best for you and is always willing to explain things if you email him. He is very nice! Loved this class, and I don't usually like science at all. OH! And the textbook is free!
Robert Johnson is a very kind person and he wants you to succeed!
His instructions aren't clear. It's confusing what he wants you to turn in and what he doesn't being that there are labs every week. Other than that it's a quiz. Only 4 % away from a needed 2.0 and he wouldn't budge on making up for it / turning in unclear wanted & completed assignments from me. He's also kind of rude / stuck up in his emails.
The teacher gives awesome feedback and is truthful about it. He doesn't intend to hurt anyone by it. He will take the time to help his students either online emails or reaching out to him in his office.
This teacher is very helpful and wants you to understand the concepts of the class not just read and remember. He makes the lecture informative and fun. Labs are great and knowledge provoking. Just a great teacher overall.
He's a really good teacher if you're willing to work for it. Lectures are directly from the text book but modified to make simpler. He really wants you to understand the material. Does not offer extra credit though so you have to do everything right the first time.
Every week read 2 chapters out of the textbook (20 pages each and 35 pages each later on), a 10-15 question quiz on each chapter (pretty easy), and a 2-3 page "lab" (more like a research paper). READ THE TEXTBOOK, don't watch his videos, DON'T INCLUDE ANY OPINIONS IN LABS unless he says "speaking subjectively." 50 Q midterm & final. LOT OF WORK
I had to get science credit and I found the course teacher helpful. The work in the course was normal quiz reading each week n a short lab. he gave great feedback n helped me be a better writer. I had questions n he answered them all, n i even met him on campus. Not tough ( im not science) n i did ok (3.6). helpful guy n i learned alot in class.
Very rude and confusing.
Professor Johnson is how I wish all of my online teachers would be. I'm not understanding how people are saying he is confusing, because his instructions are incredibly detailed and concise. He does what he can to make his expectations as clear as possible. more professors should teach like him!
This class is great if you actually want to learn and understand the subject matter in a way that will stick with you. I am not great at the sciences but I got a 3.9. It is very difficult but as long as you read his directions carefully there shouldn't be any issues. He is very willing to help you and gives many extra videos and resources.
Professor Johnson was an awesome online professor. I really did have to work hard for this class but I haven't had one "easy" class at Pierce college yet. He always praised my work and it really boosted my confidence. I really enjoyed the topic. This was an online class but I hope I have the opportunity to meet him in person!
I had some technical issues and this being an online class, was quite worrying. Professor Johnson was very patient and understanding as I worked through them. He is also very enthusiastic about the subject matter, which made for great feedback on papers. He also will work with you if you're having a difficult time on a subject matter. 10/10
I've never enjoyed science, but this class was actually interesting! I had some heath issues throughout the course and he helped me get in touch with disability services and encouraged me to keep going. Great professor!
Not even a week into this course and am about ready to formally complain. Bad grammar, disorganized, and gives excuses. His writing, when you're able to understand it, makes it seem like he's narcissistic. Heavily graded quizzes, which are meant to help you with studying. Manditory community service not discussed until after registering.
Professor Johnson has been one of my favorite teachers of all time. He's straight forward with what he wants from you. I've taken Bio 100 and NSCI 160 and both classes he asks you to do 1-2 chapters of reading, take a test at the end of the week (gives you half the answers) then a written lab 1-2 pages. If you can keep up on reading you will pass.
Great teacher. Thought he was going to be strict but ended up being very reasonable with his grading. He was really nice and responded to emails very quickly. Quizzes are sort of easy. Class content was perfect for non science majors. I would take it again. Free online text book.
I enjoyed Professor Johnson when I had him in summer of 2016 (for NSCI 160.) The pace was fast, the overviews thorough. This class took work. Very welcoming of my attempts at "labs." (One involved yarn, lol.) Enjoyed the community service aspect. I knitted for Seattle Children's. I would have this professor again!
Professor Johnson was great in getting back to me if I had questions or concerns. For me, the only struggle was the quiz timeline, but with my ADD sometimes everything is a struggle. Overall, I enjoyed the class and would take another class by Professor Johnson.
This was my first science class at Pierce and it was overwhelming and hard until the end. It's hard because its a hybrid class, but I really liked that he would still squeeze in a lecture during the lab because it helped. My only critique would be that I wish he let students record his lectures it can help out the slow learners like me.
I took professor Johnoson's online BIOL& 100 class which wasn't too hard of a class. I would recommend studying for the weekly quizes because there are a few trick questions. Also, he responds very quickly to emails and is willing to answer any questions.
He's such an entertaining professor and is so passionate about what he is teaching. He offers one extra credit and it's worth 20 pts and super easy to do. You have to do at least 3 hours community service. Tons of reading material and tests are difficult, but just prepare and you'll be fine. He's fun and very caring towards students, 10/10
The class was pretty easy overall, just a weekly quiz on the textbook and a quiz on the lab, even though it says you cant use the textbook on the quiz, you definitely can. Only a couple written assignments turned in via email. No late work accepted, but the workload is not hard at all. Would take again.
Captivating he cares about those who care about the class. He is way to smart to be teaching 160 wish he taught A &P and also gives great advice to students in healthcare bound degrees. YOU ROCK PROFESSOR JOHNSON
Interesting class, but it was very hard. Very hard to get an A.
He is very difficult to understand, he may know science but he doesnt know English. Hundreds upon hundreds of typos in his instructions. He grades the toughest that Ive ever had in my educational career. And Im a constant A and B student in all courses. There is CONSTANT reading. Everything is reading and optional videos which turn into quizzes.
This is the toughest class I've ever taken. He gets off topic a lot and tells the students about what he bought at Goodwill.
If you aren't prepared to buckle down and engage in the material, this is probably not going to be a professor you'll get along with; if you're willing to put in actual time & effort, he's a delight to work with. Incredibly polite, always having stellar feedback to give if you put in the effort, and very clear about what he wants/expects from you.
I have been a straight A student with a 3.8 GPA until I took this class. Much to my surprise all the quizzes are timed and you have to practicality memorize the chapters word for word to have a chance in passing them. A 20 point quiz dropped me 7%, and he doesn't put the lab grades in so I have had no cushion for the quiz grades. Terrible course.
Worst professor I have ever taken!! His canvas reminds me of a horders house so packed with "stuff" finding the assignments takes forever. He thinks very high of himself, yet had so many spelling errors and Grammer mistakes my English professor would fail him, yet he expects his students to understand what he's saying. Do NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
The worst teacher I could have ever possibly had. Way too off topic in class and waste your time. All of the place with every single assignement given. Test are timed for 50 minutes for 50 which is ridiculous. Gave me an assignment with no file upload and I turned it in and said I think not because It was late; punished for his laziness.
His Canvas is very disorganized and he posts a lot of unnecessary content on it. He gives out a lot of quizzes and tests. The class is hard to get an A in.
Very disorganized professor. Gets off topic very often. His organizational skills are very poor. Very test and quiz heavy that are done online but are timed. His tests and quizzes sometimes have grammatical errors, so you may have no idea what he's asking of you. Very hard to follow when he does lecture. Worst teacher I have ever had.
hes quick in replying to all of my questions and was polite and a kind person working with me when I lost a my dad ginvin me time to catch up/make up work n I'd take him again cz I think the class wasnt hard it just takes time to do the reading work. hes not tuf. hes a cool guy and I don't understand the hate here cz hes nice
Confusing instructions especially when it comes to labs because its explained in many different ways. When writing a paper you have to go way off topic to get full credit and be grammatically correct. Feedback is poor because he is more worried about the little details that shouldn't matter. Quizzes are based off of the textbook AND videos, plus
BAD prof. for bio. 1. Test Heavy, weekly exam/week (very specific to his PPT. and some links) 2. Extremely disorganized 3. Goes on countless rants 4. Highly unprofessional 5. Condescending 6. Constant cheating accusations 7. Little time for quizzes 8. Bad grammar/hard to read q's 9. Doesn't prepare well 10. If you suck up, you'll pass 11. Biased
Would not recommend to anyone bc he's the worst. It sucks he was only one avil. for Sp19. During lab times he'd rant for hrs which meant we weren't learning but he'd still test us. his quizzes are so specific so do not waste time on a book just use his power points (highly disorganized with bad grammar but where he generates q's from). UNREASONABLE
The material given online in canvas is very broad and does not give you a clear picture on what to study. While the videos are helpful they are not specific to what the quizzes are about and neither is the text book. This is waaaay to difficult to be a 100 level class. Take this class elsewhere if you can.
DO NOT take him for an online class. Most of the questions on the quiz are not found anywhere in his resources (textbook, video, etc.). Despite it being an online class, the tests are no note & timed. Aside from that, the syllabus says that the highest grade you can get in the class is 95%, & he admits that you won't use most of the info ever.
I took professor Johnson in an online class and I like it. He is very organized and there is not a lot of homework. You only have a lab and a quiz every week.
Don't expect to get much out of this class. Labs weren't mandatory, the only thing he graded were his unreasonable quizzes that were very word-specific to his power points (with HORRIBLE grammar). The time I took this, almost half of the class wouldn't show up to lab once a week or left early every Tues/Thurs. This really is a waste of time.
One quarter he gave majority of his students 0's on the final because he accused them for cheating. He tried to discourage you to see the dean but many in the class did and the dean said Robert was wrong. All students who went from 96's or A's on the final to 0 because of Rob, got their grade changed back to what they earned.
I had his Bio212 during the virus, so far is already the 3rd week of this quarter, I still don't get how to study his lecture, there are 2 ppt each week and they are both 50-70 pages (and really disorganized), you need to speed so much time on those ppt in order to understand it. quizzes are so specific to some point. I barely learned nothing.
I hate that there are so many negative responses for this man. He is a great professor very knowledgeable individual who likes connecting the real world problems with Biology. Johnson enjoys students who show up brighteyed and curious asking lots of questions and giving this guy some "critical mind" feedback is key to enjoying his class! Have fun.
After reading the syllabus I was a little put off by how many times he specified No CHEATING in it. However, if you do the work you will do fine. I took this class during the Corona pandemic, it was one out of my 4 classes, I still managed to get an A. All while homeschooling my kids and working my job from home. Great Professor!
DO NOT take this prof! 45 page syllabus, paranoid about cheating, and we had assignments that were not on the calendar. Had units and labs that had NOTHING to do with biology. Also, labs were crazy hard. Lastly, was told from the bookstore that I needed a textbook, but in the syllabus there was a link to a free online version. H O R R I B L E!
44 page syllabus, two-paragraph long quiz questions that were very confusing, sometimes made the right answer super obvious, sometimes impossible, so many grammar errors, strict on cheating, 3 quizzes each week including one agenda quiz, one lab quiz, and one textbook quiz, didn't learn much, nice guy though.
This class consists of reading two chapters a week, 1-2 chapters of lab, and a weekly reading and lab quiz. Sometimes his qustions are specific so you have to beware of the finer details in the book and his powerpoints. There is also a community service requirement and commulative final. No video lectures, all TB. Nice professor though.
Great professor, I honestly don't get the negative reviews. You get out what you put in and if you participate as you should in any college class, it's an easy pass. He gives great feedback and always answers questions and concerns when you come to him with them. Learning material is clear and concise, some coming from the book. Quizzes are easy.
With everything being online due to COVID, it made it notoriously difficult to learn lab materials. Typically, you'd have two powerpoints (35-55 slides) and two lab worksheets (5-15 pgs) each week. Your grades are solely based on weekly lecture and lab quizzes. The class and materials were pretty disorganized, but he is pretty responsive to emails.
Although classes and lab assignments are only taking exams and quizzes, he only cares about his questions not being spread out instead of how we understand about the context. I asked him several times which question I got wrong but he just doesnt tell me and then started to deny that I cheated! What? He doesnt even care about students!
This professor is absolutely terrible. He only cares about his test/quiz questions. I wasn't able to retain any information because he assigns 3-4 chapters on average per week and at one point each chapter was 145-165 slides. He also assigns two labs to complete each week which are 16 pages on average. No lectures to help students, no effort.
This professor is hands down the worst professor I've ever had. He will make you hate everything about science. He ONLY cares about his test questions, everything is a quiz, he doesn't include any assignments to provide a cushion on the grading spectrum. His questions are worded back words and you spend half the time trying to make sense of them.
I wish I knew about ratemyprofessor before wasting money on this class. Literally the worst professor I've had at Pierce. Each PowerPoint presentation was littered with grammatical errors and was very hard to comprehend most times. Same with his test questions (Very confusing). Someone really needs to review his material before letting him teach.
I'm confused by people bein down on him. I worked every day in the course n he emailed right away whenever I had any questions. his course was filled with good helper stuff n he was online 7 days a week even emailing me like texting on Saturday nite! I lost my grandfather n he helped me make up stuff n helped me so much. He is a great teacher!
I have Johnson for bio 100 during covid and he is very helpful! I read all of the work each week he has and we have free labs and a free book and he helps me a lot when i get confused. He is SO KIND cause I missed some quizzes when my kids were sick (mom) and he let me make them up! He is awesome, not like people say here, and I'm taking him again!
Bob is great and I had no issues. I'm a business major and needed natural science lab courses so I took his 100 as it was available. It was very easy and straightforward and he was very quick in response to any questions that I had. I will take his environmental biology lab next then I will have my lab courses done. Bob's a great teacher!!
I had Johnson for nature and biology 100 as I liked his nature course so much. I am a non-major and needed 2 different labs. He was polite in all email to me and I never felt judged or alone in his classes as he was quick to work with me. He read all of my submitted labs and gave very supportive positive feedback. Thank you Johnson, well done!!
I'm a nursing major and needed this course to get 241. I took 160 in summer during corona and it was a bit of work, but it is biology and was presented as a course well. There were 2 lab a week and he made practice exams to use to prep for credit works. He replied to my email and he was very fair, polite, and I felt worked really hard. Good course
I needed a lab course and this one was available when I registered late and I'm glad that I took it. You have to write a research lab every week and read (older book) and study with the stuff on canvas, he emails quick replies, and he helped me when I was stuck on a lab write up. I learned alot and the course helped me learn about earth alot to.
I've taken two classes with Johnson, Bio 160 and 212 . I enjoyed his class, he was very passionate about teaching and was readily available when I wanted to go through the things I got wrong on the quizzes and on exams. He really wanted his students to understand the material by helping me get to the answers on my own. I now enjoy biology!
Taking in fall 2020 and really am enjoying his course as it allows me to not be in a lecture or a lab at any specific time (as I have two jobs) allowing me to work at my own pace each day. Any questions I ever had he answered right away, even on weekends with one of his HELP email. I signed up for his nsci 160 winter then my lab classes are done.
He had an obvious way of how he wanted our homework turned in and always gave adequate time to finish these assignments. Always gave great feedback and directions and was understanding of personal situations. I felt the content that he provided was very helpful and always provided videos.
Great teacher, always responded as soon as possible to emails when I had any questions or concerns. He gave us a lot of textbook work, which was kind of stressful, but overall I thought it was a great course. I feel like maybe a once a week zoom could possibly improve this course. Maybe just a zoom covering the lessons for that week.
Best professor and best class I have ever taken in my college education.
Professor Johnson was a great BIO teacher. I'm actually sad I didn't take his course in person due to COVID restrictions. He was very clear in expectations, assigned similar assignments every week, and had the same due dates so you were always sure when you had things due. Lots of reading and video "lectures", but when applied, easy class to pass!
I really liked this nature class about the diverse life of earth. He was quick to reply in grading my lab works and on the questions i emailed him. His course had an easy to follow weekly design, a free book , videos, and labs too. I took this online as I work two jobs and it was suggested to take for ECE. Great teacher and I recommend him!
about 20 quizzes overall. all timed with 1.1-1.2 minutes per each question. final exam was 50 questions and 55 minutes. A LOT OF WORK (not required but very necessary to succeed)
I'm in his biol 100 course and there are a few mistakes in his writing but he is not stupid or mean.. He is kind and fair and a good teacher. I email him if I'm confused on a lab or with any questions I have, and he always emails me back right away, even on a Saturday. His course is clear, has a free book and labs. I'd retake and do recommend him.
Professor Johnson is really hard to understand and gives very confusing instructions. He's tough on due-dates, but on the plus-side, doesn't grade very hard. His class was extremely frustrating for me, and I spent a lot more time on it than any of my other classes, while still feeling like I learned less.
I needed this course for the Vet tech program that I am applying for. I found this Biology course very well designed, easy to be successful in, and that Mr. Johnson was very friendly and available. His responses to my questions or on my lab results were quick, polite, and helpful. The book was free as are all of the labs. I would take him again.
Professor Robert was such a good teacher and was very helpful to me. He replied right away to all of my questions. I really liked his class and thought it was easy and not tricky or tough. He is really nice and let me make up a lab and a quiz when I was sick. I liked him a lot!
I've taken a Bio class before and didn't enjoy it, but I have really enjoyed this class. He puts a ton of effort into the Canvas page, and is very supportive. My favorite online class to date. Replies quickly, provides copious resources for understanding, and makes sure we know he's here to help. Highly recommend! Also, textbook is free online.
Prof Johnson is an amazing professor, 10/10 would recommend. He worked hard to build an online course which would engage his students, and I was able to learn easily. As long as you read the weekly agenda and put in the time and effort, this class will be an easy A. He gives feedback on just about everything, so it will be easy to correct anything.
I had a great experience in Professor Johnsons class! He was quick to respond and gave clear positive feedback on my assignment. The class is mainly quizzes and readings with only a couple essays. As long as you do the work and stay positive then you will do great!
Prof. Johnson and I easily established an email relationship during our online-only course after I sent him a question about an assignment. He was always available to provide more information or feedback in a friendly, approachable, professional manner. I'm sure I'll have more Bio classes and wish I could be sure they would be with Prof. Johnson.
Professor Johnson is one of the best professors Ive ever had. He is very communicative and gives great feedback on labs. The course is not too heavy of anything and I have learned so much in a short amount of time. There has never been an overload or under load of assignments. 100% recommend.
Very easy to work with and cared about how you do.
I took this class because it was mandatory for my degree. Whenever I had issues, I could always email him and he would respond as soon as possible. In my opinion, he was very friendly and funny. The class is based around quizzes, with a reading quiz and lab quiz weekly, but if you read the material and do the lab for the quiz, you can easily pass.
It's clear that Professor Robert cares bout his students. His feedback was always uplifting and encouraging. Chapters are big and test questions are specific, so if you don't read, you will struggle. He is very clear on what he expects for labs, but if you follow the rubric, you will get full credit. :)
Not having looked at this professor's (mostly negative) reviews prior to enrolling into what is already considered a relatively difficult course, I maybe wouldn't be stressing as bad had I taken it with a more organized, present, and caring professor. This is by far THE HARDEST TIME I've had in a course, having to basically teach myself everything.
Great teacher and very passionate about Biology. He has some brain damage and his material can be worded a little strangely, but he's always willing to explain things in further detail and is very reachable by e-mail. He grades 100% based on quizzes and tests, so if you're not a good test taker his class probably won't be for you.
Rob is such a sincere, supportive, helpful, kind and fair teacher and I loved his course. He made the course real, and easy to do every week. I did as suggested and reached out to him whenever I had any questions and he responded right away. I learned so much and he made this course and material so very personal! He is my FAVORITE teacher! 10/10!
Professor Johnson Is a solid individual! He is so helpful and genuine in concern for his students. When I am located on the other side of the world he still manages to give me a handout and not just once, several times. His modules were kind of hard to read due to the font but he had PowerPoint of his lecture and in Word of the same material. Solid
I had heard Prof. Johnson was a "tough grader" so I was a little nervous taking his class. But this was one of the most straightforward classes I've ever taken. You have a lab and a quiz weekly and he gives you all week to do it. Super simple. You have to do the readings and actually study - but otherwise, easy course and light on homework!
This was the first Biology class I have EVER enjoyed. This was an online class, which is difficult as it is, but professor Johnson made the content exciting! His expectations were always clear and he was very easy to speak to outside of class. Professor Johnson was my favorite professor that I had at Pierce College, which is saying a lot!
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He grades based on unbelievable confusing questions with significant grammar errors and misspelled words. He needs somebody to proofread ALL of his work. There is no extra credit, and if you miss an assignment, you have no chance to recover from it. No feedback on anything. Please do not take his class.
The instructor seems to care about his students but doesn't know how to connect with them on a personal level. His online course structure is only uploaded PDFs and Word Documents that are uploaded multiple times and makes it really hard to navigate the course. Unless you only learn completely from textbooks and notes you will have an awful time.
Bob is wonderful for this course I needed for nursing. I had been away from school for a while and as an adult returned to go in a new direction in life. He is kind, quick to reply to all of my questions, polite, and has a very clear course with clear support material, diverse labs, shared links, and is supportive in all email feedback. GREAT!
Professor Johnson was amazing. Clear and concise with his expectations from day 1, and always addressed things he felt needed clarification. I never waited more than a few hours fir a response to an email, and I quite enjoyed his self-paced model for the course. It gave me the time and ability to succeed. Definitely would recommend him!
I would HIGHLY recommend him!! Professor Johnson was easily one of my favorite teachers. He makes you feel understood, clarifies anything that you need, quick on feedback and makes you feel so welcomed to his class. I'd say to you just try your absolute best and you'll do great.
I don't really know too much about this Professor since it was online. The only form of communication we had was through emails. He seemed to be very nice and understand. I had turned into assignments late because of certain issues and he didnt dock any points. I would take another one of his classes.
Class was content heavy but Professor Johnson provides PowerPoints on what you need to focus on, his labs were a mix of lecture and dissection. He really wants his students to succeed and is very supportive and accessible. He is very laid back and understanding and will work with you as long as you communicate with him.
By far one of my favorite professors, he is very caring & will work with students, if you need help reach out, he goes above & beyond to help students who need it. This quarter was very tough for me due to personal reasons which caused my grade, but he was very supportive & helpful through it. Vocab is VERY important! hard, but you'll catch on.
From day one, he tells you exactly what you need to do to be successful. He has mastered this course and is always willing to help you, whether you have general questions or want to review last week's quiz. He gets to know you and makes the classroom a fun and safe learning environment. I loved having him this quarter, it was such an amazing class!
Robert is a "what you see is what you get" type of professor. There are no gimmicks, surprises, or confusion on what is expected of you. The power point lectures match the material on the quizzes. The tests are multiple choice and/or true and false. Bonus points for his cute dog!
Robert is a kind and understanding professor. Its clear he wants everyone to succeed and will do everything in his power to make it happen. He is always there and ready to answer any questions you may have. If you show up and are ready to learn he will match your energy ten-fold! Highly recommend his courses!
He is a great person and professor! He's taught for a while and is constantly changing as the world does, and as he learns. You will get back what you put into the class, and he gives you so many resources and opportunities, for all learning styles and life paths. He genuinely wants to see you succeed, and you will go as far as you want to.
Teacher was great, must study for the subject matter. No open note tests. Very easy if you study. Offers extra credit at the end of the semester!
Professor Johnson was one of the most helpful professors I have met. I wish he was teaching some of the other science classes that I have to take because he really is what helped me pass the course especially in the summer when everything is crammed into a few weeks. He has mock exams that really help and great opportunities for extra credit! 10/10
Excellent communicator and really organized! Everything is very easy to follow. Gives extra information about each module. Responds quickly to email.
Professor Johnson is a wonderful instructor who really cares about his students succeeding. That doesn't mean he's going to hand you the answers, but he gives you as many resources as you could possibly need to truly comprehend the material. Very responsive to questions and happy to work with students in order to see them succeed. Fantastic class!
Professor Johnson gives hilarious, engaging & thoughtful lectures - relatable & highly informative! Though this course was a bit more difficult than I'd anticipated, it (Bio 160) was aimed at Science/ Medical majors. Difficult mainly b/c there was such a lg quantity of new vocab & concepts in only 7wks, Summer Qtr. Overall, excellent teacher!
This is a great professor. He is always cheerful and ready to assist you in your studies. He also responds to emails very quickly and always provides a variety of resources for your reference.
Professor is a compassionate, fair, and flexible person who communicates well. The material in this class is dense and he is actually teaching it, not just grading papers. Read everything before class and don't be afraid to ask questions. He is always offering to help.
I loved the clarity of the class. No tricks; it was clear what I had to do; from assignments to labs, all assignments had more than enough information to complete each section, and I loved all the videos. It was very helpful that he maintained the same structure throughout the course. Thanks for being great and patient with the students.
Professor Robert Johnson has been one of my favorite professors so far. I've really enjoyed taking this course. As expected, biology 160 included a lot of tough material to learn, but Prof. Johnson always lectured in a way that his students could understand. He made sure to apply biology to our life around us so that we could visualize it.
He is a very cool teacher and chill dude. He wants you to succeed and very fun to have class with.
This is a new day class as best as I can put it. The way I see it instead of reading from a book we read from the web. One will think the test will be based on the text, but no, the test is based on "common" knowledge. There are more general understanding of the topic in the tests. Searching the web for information is welcome in this class.
Instead of just theoretical work, he focused on practical work too. The video clips and concise presentation helped me to learn every topic quickly.
Weekly mock quizzes, quizzes, and labs. Explains himself very well. Very straightforward with what he wants. Two discussion labs, but they're easy. Clear on how he grades. If you have a question, the answer will most likely be in the syllabus. If it's not, he is available over email. Nice, sweet guy. 100% would take another class by him.
Had a great time in this class! Robert made a stressful class not so stressful
He is the most kind and helpful profesor that will always be willing to help anyone
I enjoyed taking Biology with Professor Robert Johnson. He was very diligent in explaining expectations of the course and assignments. Many materials and resources were provided that were extremely beneficial. The Professor is also very understanding so if you need help reach out! I would definitely recommend this course.
Heavy course load- lots of reading. Professor Johnson provides a free textbook as well as PLENTY of extra resources. Overall an enjoyable/informational class and GREAT professor!
Professor Johnson is quite an amazing lecturer that will give quality lectures in the class and in addition, give some pieces of advise that will see you through in your academical pursuit. He was always willing and ready to give you a guide on how to solve whatever problems he was approached with.
Professor Johnson was a great professor! The first two weeks was heavy on the homework but it gets easier and more manageable after the second week!
The course work is very book reliant. But if you complete your readings it is easy to achieve a good grade.
Professor Johnson is a great professor, he was understanding and kind. A great professor to have especially with harder online courses, he makes it easier and more fun!
This professor is working hard to see that his student has grabbed and understood the course material ,he listens and gives good feedback. He will welcome you in class even if you got in class a little bit late after he had already started his lecture. He is easy to get after class and he responds to the emails almost immediately .
At the beginning of this quarter, I was having a tough time with personal things, and he was really supportive and understanding of my situation. This really helped me with this class and made me feel that he wanted me to succeed in this class.
I had a really good time with this class. The professor was always active and responsive. Was very understandable and flexible as long as you showed effort in return. The assignment were super fun and made this class interesting. I learned a lot from this class and would recommend it to anyone.
His work was easy to understand, straight to the point. He was very understanding when I was struggling, he gave support and feedback. I would definitely have him as a teacher again.
He was great. As long as you do the readings and complete the labs you cant fail. He always gave great feedback.
Professor Johnson truly cares for our planet and loves teaching his students to do the same. I studied a little bit each day and never felt bogged down by course material. Mr. Johnson replied to emails almost immediately and could always be available for questions before or after lab. Hands down would take this course again.
Very easy going and understanding. A bad grade on an assignment will bring your grade down but lots of other opportunities and ways to get points. He wants you to pass.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. He nurtured a safe and fun learning environment, helped me love biology even more, and connected material to current issues. There is a textbook but not required as he provides an insane amount of study material including Powerpoints and YouTube links. Johnson is so understanding & accessible.
Great professor, very nice! I was sometimes confused on the quizzes because of what seemed like trick questions because of the way he wrote them, but I quickly got used to it. He provides great opportunities for extra credit, especially the food drive. The textbook is online and I often didn't even need it because of all of the other sources.
He's a chill guy. He assigns you to read PowerPoint slides that range from 60-180 slides. It gets really boring and not easy to learn the material. He's easy with grading and the tests aren't too bad. His in person lectures kind of get political and sometimes don't relate to what needs to be taught. Some labs are hands on, others are show and tell.
Professor Johnson was awesome. As long as you remember that this is a college level course and keep that in mind when going through the work, you will do great. Much of the work seems big, but if you space work out over the week it feels like a very light course load. 10/10 would recommend.
No homework. Labs do take about 2 hours but he grades very easily. Read every chapter, watch every video. Know the material and you'll do fine. Lots of extra credit opportunity on labs.
In his NSCI 160 class, if you read the textbook, (which can be found online for cheap) and take notes, you do well in this class with the quizzes and the labs, but i found that there is a lot of labs in this class, one for each week expect mid terms. It very work intense but if you put 1 to 2 hours aside for the class, you will do well.
there is lot of work but to avoid this get a good routine down. another thing i would rec is getting ahead of your work as much as possible, do ALL recommended reading, and just try because in my experience if you put in effort it will pay off with your final grade. and overall he was very nice and gave good feedback, i really enjoyed the class.
I enjoy this class a lot, the professor made it clear what was expected each week which was really helpful. There was a lot of reading but nothing out of the norm for a college class. Every week there was a quiz for that weeks reading and a very helpful practice test as well. I really appreciated the quick grading and feedback from the professor.
I loved Professor Johnson! Listening to his lectures and talks, I learned so much. There is so much to learn and all the terminology to remember can get overwhelming so it's important to set aside a lot of study time. The book was the cheapest I've gotten for my classes which was a relief. I'd be happy to take another class with this professor!
Professor Johnson does talk a lot during class time before the actual lab but the classes are not mandatory and he tells you that. your grade is really only based off of weekly quizzes you have one quiz on the power point and text book and another quiz on the lab worksheet. If you do not take notes you probably wont get the best grade.
Professor Johnson is very understanding, gives instant feedback on assignments. He prepares you adequately for the quiz.Great Professor!
If you're one who likes working at your own pace, I recommend. Prof Johnson is great & you can tell he wants the best for his students & does everything in his power to make sure they succeed in his class. W/ that being said your success is your responsibility. Tip: set aside time for lecture slides (they're content heavy) and study study study.
I loved this class! I'm not a biology major so this course was very easy to follow. There were about 4 assignments a week, but super easy to complete as long as you did the reading before the end of the week. This professor is very helpful if you have any questions and wants to see you succeed. There were lots of opportunities for extra credit!
I highly recommend taking Professor Johnson's class! He truly wants the best for his students and will help/answer any questions you may have. He gives you all the tools to prep properly for an exam. The lecture slides can be heavy but he also links plenty of videos if you learn better that way. Apply yourself and you will do well. Great class!
I like this class. The professor is very enthusiastic. We have 4 assignments for a week. He offers an extra credit assignment.
This is one of my favorite classes I have taken. Professor Johnson's main goal is for every student to succeed. He displays very clear and informative PowerPoints and videos for each lesson. During lectures he breaks down each lesson. He gives helpful feedback and grades fairly. The labs were also very fun and interesting. Highly recommend!
Professor Johnson is very kind. He gives truly compassionate feedback on assignments and is always eager to help students if there is any kind of issue. The class itself is divided into weekly readings, tests, and labs. Everything is very manageable and Professor Johnson offers practice tests for all for credits tests, excluding the final.
He is a great and teacher. He makes Biology so easy to understand. I appreciate his style of teaching.
He is very knowledgeable about biology. In his lectures he really tries to make sure you understand the material. I enjoyed his class and would take it again.
He's always willing to help others out and provide feedback. You can tell he genuinely wants people to learn and improve. That said, some of the ways he words things can be a little unclear or confusing at times. If something really didn't make sense, he'd be happy to clarify or rephrase it for you.
I've always loved biology, but professor Johnson made me love it even more. I recommend taking his class 100 %. He gives the best lectures and all you need to get a good grade are in the modules, with detailed worksheets and PowerPoints! He is also always available to answer any questions you have.
Awesome Class with an Awesome teacher! While the books help you don't need them as he supplies PowerPoints with all of the stuff you'll need for the quizzes. The labs were fun! if a bit un-guided/organized unless you read lab worksheet. granted it isn't a big deal as there are lab PowerPoints that are basically all you need to study to pass the lab
Professor, Johnson is wonderful don't think about it just take a class and find out for yourself!
Professor Johnson is a kind and very likable professor. He is passionate about teaching and really wants the best for all his students. I like that he combines the book knowledge with his years of experience with the current events happening in the world today. I would definitely take his class again.
I cannot say enough good stuff about this professor! Every lecture was so engaging, interesting, sometimes off the wall fun, and just easy to retain all the information! He is so insanely knowledgeable. He cares about every student! You will succeed in this class if you put in the effort. He has your back. RAD GUY!
I waited three semesters to take his class and it was worth it. Robert is great and genuinely cares about you. If you have a tough situation he'll work with you. I won't lie there is a lot of reading required. There is an exam after every four chapters, a quiz, and a comprehensive exam, but Robert gives you material to help you succeed. Good Luck!
I did not enjoy this class at first, but I learned to love it. I was frustrated by the amount of slides in the weekly powerpoints, but over time there are fewer slides per powerpoint, you learn to read his presentations, and the info becomes clearer. I wouldve liked traditional lectures, but he was always willing to explain topics/terms when asked.
This professor is a good one. He is intentional with what he does and provides a conducive environment for students to flourish in his class.
My favorite part were lectures. It was easy to become so engrossed that you wouldn't realize it's time to leave. Prof Johnson did an amazing job of captivating the class and making the material engaging (even at 9am in the summer). That's how lecture felt every single time; inspiring and enlightening. I will absolutely take another of his courses.
Professor Johnson is an incredibly nice person and he truly cares about his students. I took NSCI150 online this Summer to finish my AA and I am glad I did. At first, the canvas page will seem daunting, as he has A LOT of information in his modules, but once you get used to how he imparts information, the canvas will be a lot easier to navigate.
I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures, and appreciated his connection of the material to real life concepts. The hybrid course is fairly straight forward; read the book/slide show, and then attend class. He's a fast replier and is ready to answer questions. The practice quizzes are helpful. Also very accommodating to students needs.
I really enjoyed this professor. Very caring and understanding. Lectures are all on canvas. Only need to go to class if you're wanting to do the dissections. Typically 1-2 lectures, 1 practice quiz, 1 lecture quiz, 1-2 labs, and 1 lab quiz per week.
Professor Johnson's BIO160 class is a hidden gem. He's passionate about the material and genuinely wants students to succeed. With a good mix of lectures, videos, and hands-on labs, the content is engaging. The workload is manageable, and unstuckstudy AI proved invaluable for study prep. Overall, a great experience!
Professor Johnson is fantastic! I recently came back from a 3 year "break" from school and was very nervous to take online classes, but he made it very user friendly and comforting. Not to mention, the extra material he gave us to better understand our topics for the week and the positive reinforcement made me want to work even harder!
This professor is a great teacher, he loves to connect biology to everything in life, and cares for us as students! If you are worried about your grade he takes his time to give us small extra assignments to get a better boost in our grade! Be on time to class, participate and do your best in his class and your grade is good.
prof Johnson possess great communication skills he engages with students in his lectures, and he participates in his class discussion, comments from assignments and lab discussions his course is organized, and he provides feedback in assignments and exams. I highly recommend taking his class.
Biology 160 was easy, enjoyable, and engaging. The lecturer was great—very kind and approachable. On top of teaching the course material, he also shared valuable advice on handling life's challenges. He's definitely worth attending lectures with!
Awesome professor, I love the little random day to day topics he would start class out with. Very kind and truly wants the best for his students. get ready to read! he makes powerpoint if you cant find the text book which is awesome. great class, and great teaching. I look forward to having him as a professor again in the following quarter.
Professor Robert Johnson is a great teacher! He is relatable and a fun teacher. I learned a lot from this course. Thank you so much for having you as my instructor in Biology 160!
I highly recommend Robert Johnson for his clear expectations and engaging material. The course can be reading-heavy, but the classroom environment is very well-structured. Opportunities for extra credit abound, and lab reports allow you to focus on your interests. He is great for anyone struggling in science or seeking a positive experience.
Very nice and cool professor who really is interested in what he teaches. He gives good feedback and sometimes hints at the right answer on quizzes and tests. If the multiple choice option has a >:3 face or has one of the words or whole option bolded, that's the right answer. Also he may give the answer in the question or highlight the answer.
This is by far the most work I've ever had in a class. 10-15 assignments due every week PLUS a lab every single week where you HAD to buy supplies. I got 100% on every other assignment and didn't do well on most of the labs and i basically failed so you might as well not waste your time on the actual assignments and just focus ont the labs.
I lowkey wanted to be his friend haha best professor hands down. He made me want to switch up my education path and become a teacher instead
He was such a great professor, talked alot about random things in the middle of lectures but thats what made him and his course so fun. 2-3 quizzes every week and 1-2 labs every week. If you put regular effort into this class you will def pass.
Super cool class, lots of extra credit when you spend quality time on work, super nice clear instructions, easy to reach, a LOT to learn.
I really appreciate how supportive professor Johnson has been.
While this class does require for you to apply yourself and study the matieral, Mr.Johnson does an amazing job at explaining the reading materials in a way that is easy to understand and can be connected to real life. Furthermore his openness and honesty really makes you feel welcomed and connected in the classroom. Would definitely take again!
He didn't if you were late or left early. Attendance was important for most labs because of the online post-lab quiz but the quiz material is covered in our online lectures. In class he wouldn't talk about Biology until the last 20 minutes when we'd do the labs, Instead he'd talk about politics and his opinions on it, then tie in biology sometimes.
Such a great professor! Super kind and makes it fun to work!
Absolutely amazing, works very well with students and is always available
Robert was my favorite teacher out of all of my teachers this quarter. He is awesome at teaching & correlating schoolwork with the real world which I loved! He is also very motivating & personable. Grading criteria was very straight forward & there is always room for extra credit which was nice.Highly recommend. Passed with a 101% this quarter.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! I 100% recommend taking him for any courses. He is very informative and helpful. 4 main exams and 1 final. You can get a textbook but the information is available on powerpoints in the modules. Fun labs and fun professor. Good extra credit was offered, and I passed with a 102%
He was a great professor. You would go to class, and sit for about 2 hours and he would talk about the criteria. You would have to go in tuesdays and thursdays but he mostly just made it tuesdays and made the thursdays into the quiz day. He would get off topic sometimes but it kept me awake, lol! 5/5 would take again!
Professor Johnson is excellent. His assignments are straightforward, and if you take the advice he gives, you'll have a much easier time in his class. He also is incredibly kind, and in my experience, is happy to accommodate. I have ADHD and had a bad home life during his class, and he did what he could to support my classroom experience. He rocks!
Very knowledgeable and knows exactly how to lecture and keep one glued, looking forward to the next session, never had a boring day in class. The materials flow and easy to understand. He's made me fall in love with Biology. An amazing Professor, and not only cares about grades but also the welfare of his students. I'd re-take this class any day.
To anyone this may concern or reach. Professor Johnson is an amazing teacher. Every class was amazing to anyone's standards. He was above and beyond. You could ask anyone that takes his class that he made learning fun in all aspects. One of the best Professors I have had at Pierce College. I highly suggest taking one of his biology classes!
Honestly, a great teacher. There is a lot of information provided but it was easy to sift through. He is responsive and really went above and beyond to make this quarter a little more bearable. I would absolutely take it again but just be prepared for tests and reading. PS: My favorite part was watching the YouTube videos he provided.
The labs aren't really labs, they're more like small writing assignments that are science based. Every week theres at least 2 chapter quizzes, an agenda quiz, and a lab. His feedback is long sometimes but its helpful to a point. The work load isn't that much just have to remember to read the chapters. PS there 1 extra credit opportunity at the end.
He gives lots of information to review for each chapter.
he is a great professor always 3 quizes a week (for online classes) but super simple if you study a lot and memorize the information and LOTS of Reading if you love reading.
At first, I was a bit nervous taking this course online but to my surprise Mr.Johnson made this very easy. he was very lucid on what was needed and expected of you as a student, he even provided pre-test before finalizing your actual grade on the real test. he's very responsive, he's attentive, and transparent. Amazing Professor. _ Samantha M.
I was really nervous about taking on this quarter considering all of life's challenges that were being faced personally. Mr. Johnson has a system to where it's impossible for you to fail unless you are not putting in the effort to study! I would take his class for all my biology courses if I could. Thank you Mr. Johnson!! You are awesome.
Great Professor who truly cares about. your success.
Teaching style is down to earth and very understanding of modern living limitations that students face. Don't miss his lectures! Much of the course is set up for online learning opportunities but very helpful and intriguing learning happens in the classroom! One of my favorite professors and classes so far, HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
He provided plenty of information to study and videos to watch. Lots of quizzes and a test each week. Sometimes 2. But his option for extra credit is very easy and brought my grade up. If you are looking for a basic biology class, take it from him as it is all very clearly laid out what his expectations are.
Took Bio160 online with in person lab. Lots of information and readings to understand both labs and lectures. Professor is very thorough with explaining the topic every lab day. Lab was enjoyable and fun to attend, online structure was made easy to follow.
Professor Johnson is a great teacher who truly cares for all his students. As long as you put in the study time, it can be an easy class to pass.
The class was tough but very instructive which once got going it wasn't really very stressful. If you put in the hours and attention to the course material then there is no reason to not do well. Great teacher! Learned a lot!
Very caring and understanding. Grades easily.
Professor Johnson is a great leader and very great at explaining everything. He also creates a very encouraging environment I would definitely take his class again.
Awesome professor. Super chill and laid back. Lectures were fun and interesting but not that helpful. Gives a good amount of extra credit (also easy to earn). Textbook is "required" but not really because all materials are posted (slides and/or PowerPoints). Even if you take this class in-person, you will still have to do lots of self-studying.
This is the best professor I have ever had. He is very diverse and fair. He explains and gives real life examples making the topics more fun and very interesting. He teaches with passion and ensures he answers your questions in a timely manner. He is very mindful as he ensures to remind us about our assignments, agendas and even our lab days.
Professor Johnson is an amazing person and teacher. He lays out his course in such a way a long as you follow his power point presentations and put in the time to study, it is easy to get an A. He is very understanding and is helpful when life happens and you need additional time or alternative assignments, all you have to do is talk to him.
Professor Johnson is one of, if not the best professor I have had thus far in my college experience. Professor Johnson clearly is passionate about the success of ALL of his students, not only that, puts weight into pouring encouragement and positive affirmations into his course work. 10/10 recommend taking a class of his.
Great teacher! Incredible experience! I've learned a lot of new study materials with his help. Reading the textbook was a bit of hard to understand since it has o lot of new vocabulary, but professor Johnson provides tons of supportive videos, PowerPoints, reading materials which was easier to comprehend. Thank you!
He was great, anytime I had a issue or a problem I'd communicate it with him and he'd clear it up. Very understanding.
Professor Johnson makes lectures fun and engaging, so course material is a lot easier to pick up. He's also really understanding of student's responsibilities outside of class, and is happy to try and work with your schedule to help you be successful in his class. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed taking Bio160 with him!
Professor Johnson is a wealth of knowledge in science. He is a super interesting lecturer and cares a lot about the success of the students. He is an open communicator, and his goal is for every student to learn the material and earn an A. I would definitely recommend taking his Bio 160 course.
