His calc class was odd. It's ALL word problems, i hated it when I was taking it... But now that I'm in physics I'm a genius because I can do word problems easily. Overall- if you're a science major, he's the guy to take.
Professor Jones is one of the best at Palomar. If you need a math class he is your best bet! He is clear, concise, understanding and fair. It is quite obvious that he is committed to the success of his stdents. Excellent Professor!
Prof. Jones was neither helpful or friendly. He did not take time to stop and answer questions or listen to the students. He patronized me when I met with him in his office and promised to pay more attention to student requests and didn't.
He doesn't teach. You have to figure it out yourself. Be prepared to teach yourself calculus.
In simple words he does help u outside of class, but inside class u do not know what's he is talking about. the things I learned from calculas were not from him, so if u plan to take his class then plan to study outside of class & other resources!!!!!!!!!
He's one of the best teachers I've had. I was scared to death to take calculus, but I got an A and really did learn the material. He teaches well and does a lot of examples. He replaced lowest test score with the score on the final exam.
Class is extremely boring!
This is the hardest class i have taken at palomar college. Going to his class is pointless because u cant understand what he says when he talks about math. he is so confusing. i have failed the firt 3 test. if you can avoid taking this guy, u are in better hands than anyone.
Not the best teacher. He goes off on things you will learn in higher classes, he just wants to show you what you can do. If you get lower then a C, he will add up to 4 point on the test, if you did the corrections. That was cool. If you put in the work, you can pass.
He is the kind of teacher that only a very few students understand. I stressed over his class extemely. Avoid him.
Math Sucks, but we have to take it. This is definately the teacher to take it from. He gives you the opportunity to correct your tests and raise your grade if you are close to a C. He is available.People need to realize, like any class you have to read the book.I would only take this teacher.
he is a friendly but difficult teacher if you are not familiar with calculus.but after all it is calculus. if you take his class without prior experience be prepared to study your ass off.
Mr. Jones is a great teacher. He is very nice and willing to help students. I recomend taking his class. He allows you to turn in hw late without any deduction and do test corrections. Good class. Not to much HW.
this teacher sucks......worst math teacher i have ever had....needs to lighten up and remember he isn't dealing with 2 year olds,. DONT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES......YOU WILL HATE HIM LIKE I DO.............GET A NEW JOB JONES YOU MAKE ME WANT TO DROP OUT OF COLLEGE
This is an awsome teacher. He makes me laugh and he will put alot of time into you. You can see he knows his stuff and if you don't you will get lost.
Nice guy, but total math nerd! Once he gets going on a whiteboard he has a tendency to lose nost of the class except for fellow nerds! Teaching style is dry and BORING!!!
Very nice guy but a really big dork. His teaching style is very hard to understand. If you're not good at learning on your own or taking the time to go to the tutoring center then do not! take his class.
This is a nice teacher, but he is very hard to follow. I actually understood the class better when I ingored him and just read the book. He also tends to be somewhat insulting if someone doesn't do their homework or misses alot of classes.
HE IS A JERK!He is way to sensitive, he chewed out some girl in my class today for a dumb reason,he takes things way to offensively.Any little thing you say could make him go off on you and he has no problem embarrassing you IN FRONT OF EVERYONE believe me he has done it a few times this semester.JERK JERK JERK!!!
he's dumb. not a good teacher.he looks like Bob Saget!
Jones was using a book written by Mark Clark(who teaches at Palomar College). The book was very difficult for all the students in our class to comprehend. Jones kept pointing out that Clark made this book to relate to real world items. Answers in the back of the book that were incorrect. Don't take this class, my guess 1/2 or more will fail.
I must admit that I have read the previous comments on Mr.Jones and I find most of them unfair. Maybe he has read some of the comments on himself and has strived to change. Anyway, I find him to be a good allaround Joe. I would recommend him, unless you're lazy and looking for an easy "A".

He is very strict and hates slackers with a passion. He gives homework every class meeting and grades it. He teaches really good as long as u ask questions and listen. The only real downfall about him is that his exams are really hard. Just remember when he gives u a definition write it down word for word and memorize it.
a strict teacher. gives a TON of homework and it can be overwhelming. tests are kinda rough but overall a good teacher. ask questions and participate in class.
Mr. Jones is an awesome instructor. i came in to this class a lost cause. i did have to work my butt off and study for his class. but he is very fair, lenient and really puts the effort in teaching calculus. ill be taking him again for math140 this fall.
nice guy but not helpful. he offers help out of class but only during office hours at the end of the day. not convenient at all! extremely difficult to understand. gives homework EVERYDAY! tells you its due one day then its not due for a few days. tests are sooooo tough. i totally recommend a different teacher. not an easy A.
Mr. Jones is a good teacher. takes the time to teach you the material. Although his way of explaining it is sometimes confusing. stays after class and will help you with your problem. is really lenient as far as turning in homework and curves the grades if the class is doing bad. Lets you turn in test corrections for extra points. took 140 & 141
Very hard. Hard to understand. Not helpful. But he is a very nice person, just not such a great teacher.
This guy is pretty tough. Often times I would end up more confused after a lecture, eventhough I'd thought I had a topic figured out from studying the textbook. Expect lower grades/test scores than from previous math courses you may have taken. He does stay late after class to help with students' questions though.
1st semester calc. This guy is a professional instructor and very sharp. He doesn't put up with any nonsense. He will be kind to anyone who is honestly making progress and trying. I wouldn't take his class if you really don't like math. The Ostebee book is full of excellent, well-thought-out text and examples, but I heard it's being phased out soon
Calculus is a hard subject to learn, let alone teach, and props to Jones for being as thorough as he is. He's VERY polite, willing, and helpful. All of the nasty comments must've come from disrespectful & lazy students. It's a tough class and not for wimps. Suck it up, do the work, and youll be fine. Life wont be handed to you on a silver platter.
Mr. Jones is truly a great teacher. If you have a question, he will keep working with you until you are absolutely sure that you have it, no rushing what so ever. In all fairness, he is a great guy who does assign homework every class, but is very lenient on when it is due. I highly recommend him for anyone who is struggling with math.
Honestly he knows the material well, but cannot teach it to you. My class started with 45 students and in two weeks we ended up with 15, horrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE HIM!! We had one student in the class who was his star pupil and would only address him and ignore that the rest of us were even there. He even gave us an advanced calc text!!
Mr.John is such a great teacher, we all enjoyed studying in his class. He did a great job trying to teach and explain things very clearly to all of us, we could easily understand what he taught. If you want to study, he'll try all his best to explain any question you have. he always stay late to help student with their question,he is a cool teacher
NOT GOOD. nice guy and very helpful with questions, but only after you tought yourself the material out of a useless book, no answers in the back of the book to check if you even got the problem right. Try to avoid, but if not be ready to teach yourself cause, i hate to say it, Jones is not a good teacher
Prof. Jones is your best bet for Calc II if you want to make it through the first time. He's a very accomidating teacher. Did his best to help every student, whatever the case may have been. Fair grader. Fair tester. His teaching methods overall are good. He's pretty clear with what you will need for the test, without tedious memorization.
Mr. Jones is a very nice very helpful teacher. He will truly try his best to help each and every student. His class is very hard and unless you are very dedicated you will not do well in this class. Test material rarely reflects the homework. If I had known what it was like, I would've taken this class with a different professor.
This guy is ridiculously LEGIT. I definitely would not have passed if he wasn't so helpful. I got a B in the class. It's not an easy class but if you put the time and effort, you'll definitely pass. He actually knows the subject and can clearly explain what he's doing. Great teacher. Awsome guy!
This teacher was amazing! I loved him. He made math fun and easy to understand. He was very helpful and was always willing to help you after class. The quizes are open book. Tests are not but as long as you understand the material you'll do fine. also he helps you out on tests sometimes.
He is a very nice guy and is a good teacher. He is patient with everyone and helps out everyone individually. Take him! The tests are hard but the final replaces yuor lowest test grade. Alot of homework but it is easy. He is good at what he does and really cares about his students
Mr. Jones is by far the best teacher I've had in years. While he is a total brain and can get wrapped up in what he's talking about and become lost to the world, it doesn't detract from his sense of humor which had me in stitches all semester. I would gladly take him as my math teacher at further levels. Not a teacher for those who like to zone out
would not recommend
I would not reccomened this instructor. He doesn't explain the material well at all. He expects you to already know the concepts, when you are taking the class to learn it. When you ask questions, he won't even answer them sometimes and then he just keep on teaching. When it comes to homework half the time he doesn't remember what he assigned.
Jones is a easy going guy that explains sections briefly and moves on regardless of your understanding. Helpful on quizzes but tests are enormously harder than them.
I retook his class thinking I would save my money on my book & it was the worst mistake. Now I will take it with someone else for a 3rd time. He's not clear, moves so quickly all you have time to do is copy whats on the board rather than absorb it. His txtbk choice "allows a more explority process". This means it offers NO help if youre confused.
If you have a math mind, he's probably great. If you struggle with math in the slightest way dont take hime. He rolls through the class like everyone has a math mind like him.
Jones makes things seem very simple by running through everything on the board as if you know it all. And when you ask questions his ability to explain is just as assumptive. He rushed everything at the end and gave us 2 tests during finals week because he ran out of time. Lots of people in our class were struggling, and he does NOT round.
This guy was all over the place. He had a very sloppy teaching style, and his tests didn't reflect the homework AT ALL. Half the time he couldn't remember what he assigned or when the homework was due. He is also inconsistent in his grading. Two people can make the same mistake on the same prob, but he will mark off one person more than the other.
DO NOT, take this class, for your own benefit! Run for the hills!
he is tough, but if you succeed you will have found out if you are ready to move on or not. Dont be caught off guard by his tests, they are more brutal than you can imagine...
I love math but he made it miserable. He was Spending half the time calling students out and just being very rude. Most of the class dropped. He hates showing long problems on the board even if they're from the homework. Even if you love school like i do he can make you want to drop out. Avoid him!!
Can I give this guy NEGATIVE stars!? He's very rude, hard to understand. The textbook will teach you more than him. I love math but hated this class. Avoid him if you can.
Not an easy class. However, if you work hard and ask for help on things you didn't understand on the quizzes the tests will be easy.
Not an easy class but if you work hard you will do okay. If you make sure to go to his office hours and get help with what you had wrong on the quizzes you will do fine on the tests. His test are pretty straight forward. Nice teacher.
Professor Jones is a great teacher, and asset to Palomar. If you're looking for the "easy way out," Jones is not your guy. If you're looking to REALLY learn Math, he is. Yes, he gives a lot of HW. His tests are difficult, because the class is difficult. However, if you're willing to put in the work, you'll survive. This class weeds out the weak!
This teacher was so unhelpful! He was unclear on a lot of topics and didnt reply back to emails or questions we had. In class he didnt really help going over questions either. Half the class ended up retaking it with me the next semester. He would give us the easy versions of a problem for in class and put harder questions on the test.
Overall he wasn't helpful...would take forever to show you your grade and would hardly ever reply to your emails ! Would not recommend him at ALL!!
I had Professor Jones for Math 60 and he is a pretty nice guy. HOWEVER, he is a really bad teacher. He assumes everyone is as good at math as he is and moves way too quickly. It's pretty much a self taught class. the tests were nearly impossible and nothing at all like the homework. If you are not great at math at math do not take his class.
He's a good guy, don't get me wrong. But the thing is, unless if you like to self teach yourself, I would suggest to take someone else. Very forgiving grading scale, and not very hard tests. Tends to get off topic and writes too fast. Relies too much that students have read the book. He is getting better though as I have heard in teaching.
he's not a very good teacher, he blows up at students for insignificant things and is useless when it comes to helping. going to his office hours won't help you very much because he gets frustrated easily. i passed the class and was there every day, so it's possible to pass. but he's very rude. avoid him if you can.
I liked Professor Jones as a person. I didn't like his style of teaching though. I'm great at Math and did well on his quizzes and exams. I recommend anyone who doesn't like his style within the first couple of classes, drop and take someone else - especially if you aren't good at math!
Really tough class but Jones is funny and gets you thru the material. Skips some steps but will go back if you ask him too. He stays late every class to provide individual help and really wants his students to succeed. Do all the HW, ask questions and study smart for the exams and you'll pass. Just be prepared, calc 1 is a breeze compared to calc 2
Really liked him. Hes very funny, whatever you do, do not interrupt him in the middle of a lecture or he will go off on you. I liked his style, but I'm pretty good a math, if you aren't I wouldn't recommend him. It seem like some people that didn't already have a good understanding of math really struggled. But overall very entertaining teacher.
Mr. Jones is a nice guy, and kind of funny, too, but not really the clearest of teachers when it comes to explaining things. Prior to exams he sets up tutor sessions w/ a tutor from the library, though, which is nice too. He's not real communicative, and doesn't respond to emails. If you struggle with math, I probably wouldn't recommend him.
Mr. Jones is the WORST teacher I have ever had at Palomar College. He laughs at you when you ask questions and still don't get it after he explains it. He embarrasses people in front of the whole class. He is not willing to help you outside of class. He is the only 105 teacher and it's sad. He should not be teaching anymore.
Does not give a schedule for homework being due (15 percent of grade). He will announce that there is a test next week, no schedule at all for his class. With a month left he tells us that we are behind and need to speed up. Worst part was that he asks students if they have questions, then when they do he tells them he doesnt want to answer it.
This class is hard, but he makes it even harder . He goes off on random topics instead of actually clarifying things. he wastes time and then blames it on it being a summer course. Office hours with him are useless, never knows what he's doing and makes mistakes all class long. he's unclear, confusing and unapproachable. avoid him at all costs !!!
One of the most frustrating classes I've taken. He's so hard to understand! I feel like he doesn't have a plan as far as teaching. Honestly I wouldn't recommend him at all! He's rude too!
Probably thee hardest teacher I have ever taken. Skips steps, gives you homework without teaching you the material. Asks other people to try to teach the class thinking it helps but really it embarrasses people. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU WANT TO PASS.
Professor Jones is pompous, rude, and extremely frustrating. He is disorganized and confusing. His teaching style is horrible, and impossible to learn from. He's really messy and will talk for days about things you don't even need to know, and then won't answer any questions because "there's no time". AWFUL teacher, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Nice man, horrid teacher, I don't know why this is his profession, it clearly is not. Horrible lecture, answers you before you finish your questions and has nothing to do with what you are asking, expects critical detailed answers on tests, graphing, quizes, he seems more frustrated than you if you are if struggling, no extra credit or help offered
Professor Jones is a difficult teacher sure, but the reason he is difficult is because the source material is difficult. Those that complain about him being unclear are clearly sour over their own poor performance, as he is VERY clear about what he wants to see. Pay attention, do the homework, and RESPECT THE SUBJECT MATTER. You will LEARN.
Mr. Jones is probably the worst teacher I've had. He spends more time talking about how a formula was derived than how to actually use it. He doesn't give out any study guides. He doesn't let you use any notes during the tests. Example of how he teaches- *class* 2+24-*homework* 6,00080 + 2^2-*test* 2 ^2 times the sq. root 75 + 85045^4. Horrible!
I took him a while ago, I can't remember much, all I remember is how much I hated him. I love math, and have never hated a math class as much as this one. Its so difficult.
Robert Jones is a really nice and funny guy. I took him for math 60 & 110. I barely passed 60. He can be a bit confusing at times & it was hard for me to follow his teaching. I don't want to blame him because I've always struggled with advance math. But I'm an A student & I had a tutor & went to the math center several times & sadly got a D in 110.
he doestnt take the time to actually teach..
I'm taking this course over the 6 week course over summer & I hate it. Even if you don't miss class, you're still not going to pass. He isn't clear on what he wants us to learn, especially what we need to know on tests (no study guides). I might have to take it again because he isn't clear at all & is a tough grader; which doesn't make sense.
Class itself is hard, but I enjoyed it. You need to do the HW, & if you don't understand something just ask him the next day and hell explain just fine! He teaches the subject well and knows what he's talking about, but often doesn't do the best job explaining a concept. But I am not great at math and got an A+. He curves the tests, not that hard!!
I took Professor Jones' first Calc 3 class and it was pretty good. He's good at explaining through showing work. The material was difficult and there were a lot of sections but I think he handled it alright. He's also a very nice guy. If you have any problems on exam days, just tell him and he'll help you out. He really wants you to succeed.
He's very unclear on when the assignments are due. He'll tell you it's due one day but then you come to class and it's not due. He doesn't let you get ahead and doesn't open the assignments online until a day or so before it's due. The assignments are long and difficult and repetitive. Would not recommend!
He's a great math teacher and definitely takes his time at explaining the material as long as you pay attention and ask him for help when needed, there's no reason not to pass his class.
I probably would've gotten an A or B if I went to class. Not recommended if you aren't able to go to every class as you will fall behind in the subject. Nonetheless the days I did go, his teaching style is very clear and will do many examples on the board. If you ask for help he will take time to answer your questions. Be prepared to do homework.
He is extremely confusing, he will spend more time talking about how a formula was created rather than show you how to actually use it. Homework is long and given basically every night. You'll have four tests and they count for the majority of your grade. The test questions are like ten times more complex than the ones he gives for homework.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM! Unless you have no hope for your GPA and want to cry all semester. I have never gotten less than a b in a math class and I tested into math 135 but wanted to take the easy way out to get credit to transfer. He assigns 50+ problems for homework after each class his tests are extremely difficult. I REPEAT, DONT DO IT
Hell on earth. Good man and good teacher, but his tests are rather unrepresentative of what we covered in class. His grading is rough, test corrections are for up to 10% up to a C, and the grading system is 20% for tests (3 total), 25% final, 15% homework. Only 6 points of EC, and that's almost nothing. Good luck, try not to cry all semester.
Professor Jones does not go in to detail with his teaching. He will assign homework without a lesson, and the day he will go 1 or 2 problems and move on to the next. He gives quizzes everyday on things he barely taught his students, and ignores me when I ask for help.
Professor Jones is a really nice guy. He is clear about when things are due, when tests are, and what will be covered on the tests. Be sure to study a lot for each test because there are only a few and they make up most of your grade. The tests are tough but you'll be fine if you really know it. I did sometimes have to read the textbook to get it
This class was hard. I aced calculus 1 and 2 but I struggled so much in this class. I was going to major in math until I got to this class. Prof Jones was nice but I feel like he could have done a little better explaining things... I found the textbook to be unhelpful. Lots of homework and tough exams.
One thing to pass this class. STUDY YOUR QUIZZES FOR THE TEST. He is a really good guy, is willing to help his students and his quizzes are EXACTLY what is on the test. Lots of homework but he really gives his students a chance to pass. Only issue is he likes to skip. If you have a question about a problem, theres a 50/50 chance he wont help.
Hes really nice and wants everyone to pass. Hell take the time to answer any question and help you outside of class. Theres a of quizzes and tests but he gives you a chance to make up points. Stay on top of the homework.
He is a TOUGH professor. I wouldn't recommend taking the class if you're not good in math. I got a C in the class. He gives you plenty of opportunity for extra credit. (TO PASS THE CLASS: YOU NEED TO SHOW UP & TAKE AS MUCH MAKEUP TESTS AS POSSIBLE!!)
(calc 3) I don't know why everyone is complaining , he was a great guy! He was willing to help students in any way possible (he would stay after class just to answer questions) and the test questions were mostly straight out of the homework. If you just keep up with the homework and understand them you'll be fine.
Very hard
Good professor on a personal note, however his tests reflect some of the more difficult problems of the homework, and grades critically on problems you got wrong. Lectures too fast in order to prep students for higher math courses and you can't skip more than 2 class meetings before the 2nd drop date, or else he'll drop you.
He is nice but a bad teacher. His exams are extremely difficult because he doesn't use examples from class or the homework. You must teach yourself everything. He will do nothing to inform you.
You have to teach yourself. I walk out of the classroom completely confused, with all the math that he teaches.
Toughest grader, doesn't explain the lessons very well. Loads of homework. Tests are really long and tough.
If you show up, participate, and do the homework, then this class should be an easy A. However, student skip class and homework and then get mad at him because they're failing. He really cares about his students and wants every single person to understand the material. He's very easy to ask questions to and is always willing to help.
he teaches way too fast and expects you to know the material instead of teaching it. My class started with 30+ and his teaching ruined it for a lot of us and we ended up with less than 10.
He's a great teacher. He was very patient in answering anyone questions. If you do your homework, you definitely pass the class.
He is nice but does not go in to detail with his teaching. His exams are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT because he does not use examples from class or homework and those question on it, he barely taught his students. I have an A in all my previous math classes including MATH140 but I really struggle on his class because he confused his students.
VERY HARD CLASS and his tests are EXTRMELY DIFFICULT. I aced calculus 1 but I struggled so much in this class because he does not explained the concept well. You have to figure out yourself. I will never take him again.
This is a hard class and on top of it, imagine moved it to online due to covid-19 pandemic. He teaches way too fast and expects you to know the material instead of teaching it. But, he was very kind to adjust the weight of the total grade. He does not offer extra credit. It was almost impossible to understand him. I've to study 5-6 hrs a day.
Professor Jones is a nice guy. But his lectures are rough! Exams are EXTREMELY hard! EXTREEEMELY! Concepts were not explained very well. Does not go into enough depth when explaining examples. He does stay after lecture if extra help is needed but it doesn't really help. You will find yourself lost....I AM DEAD SERIOUS! DO NOT TAKE for calc 2!!
This guy just skips so many steps, hes a cool guy but he wont teach you by step. He expect you to know the material. He gives quizzes at the end of class and its in the material that you just learned.
Everything you read on the comments about him being bad and skipping steps trust me theyre not lying. If you have a problem with math and you find it hard for yourself to learn on your own dont take his class.
Gives a lot of homework, but those homework makes you practice for the exam. Most of the homework are on exam. No surprise questions that is not cover on lecture.
He not too hard as long as you do the homework. Tests look like homework.
Good luck. He goes WAY TOO FAST, as if trying to set a most sections in one night record. And he assigns a LOT OF HOMEWORK, so by the time you are done with class, you are already behind, since his homework is lots of problems covering multiple sections in the book. His class is like a full time job. It's like a hazing exercise.
I actually had a good time under this professor. I will admit the workload with this class can be a little much with other classes, but never once did I feel daunted by it or the material. He explains the subject matter well enough for me but your experience may vary. Also be ready to take a quiz every class.
He skips steps, gives too much HW. Always makes mistakes that you have to look out for in every single lecture. Glosses over subjects that we barely covered and then puts it in tests. He encourages for students to ask questions but then when we do ask questions he seems bothered and doesn't want to actually answer or help with the question. BEWARE
Pulls curriculum from old quizzes & exams, that he hasn't seen in a while and unsure about his teaching when he goes over these topics. You will be needing to learn the material on your own because of his very unclear instructions and lack of explanation. Be on your toes to catch his constant mistakes during lecture and even test review. GOOD LUCK
