This prof pretty chill. His lectures are long and boring and he isn't very interactive with his students. Don't show up late or else he'll be unhappy. Not many tests ( in person) or pop quizzes (quizzes online), but extremely homework heavy.
Pretty boring professor, no connection to the students. His lectures go by way too fast to take notes, so you are really on your own with the textbook. Not too many exams but a lot of homework nightly.
While he seems like he is genuinely passionate about the subject, and even cracks jokes on occasion, his lectures are just boring. You'll need to show up because there are in class mini quizzes that make up 5% of your grade. Content isn't too difficult and homework can teach you most of it. Not the most fun class, but not the most difficult either
Bad speaking skills, really tough exams, and he just doesn't seem to know how to explain what he's talking about. The exams don't relate to the homework we do, which isn't difficult, just abundant. Definitely take someone else. The class isn't the hardest but Kaminski does not teach it well. His lectures are long, boring, and hard to understand.
Professor Kaminski seems like a great guy and you can tell he is passionate about economics but does not know how to teach, he simply just reads off the slides. The lectures are long and boring and he goes through the slides super fast. Make sure to show up to class since he does Iclicker for participation credit. Exams are quite difficult.
Professor Kaminski is clearly passionate and knowledgeable about economics but the lectures are pretty boring. All homework is online and infinite attempts until you get a 100. Quizzes are online, not terrible, and reflect fairly well how the exams will be. 3 exams and lowest is dropped. Although attendance isn't mandatory there's in class quizzes.
He's trying his best, but goes too fast for notes and gives a large amount of homework. If you don't teach yourself about 50% of it, you won't get a good grade
Not bad, not good. Long lectures and not too interesting. Wouldn't say NOT to take him, but wouldn't say TO take him.
I would choose another professor. Lectures are boring, he goes extremely fast, and still somehow manages to go over class time quite often. The exams are frustratingly hard. Save yourself the stress
He is so nice, lectures are interesting and he posts everything on elc, there is a lot of homework (quizzes) but it is really good to understand the course, tests are pretty easy and you can reach him out of class really easily.
He does iClicker questions to take attendance in class, so you can't skip all the time because it counts for part of your grade. His tests are really confusing and the language is hard to understand. Make sure to read the textbook as it makes more sense than his actual lectures do. He's pretty nice + understanding but just does the bare minimum
Not a good teacher at all. No matter how much you pay attention you will have to end up teaching yourself. Does IClickers for attendance but if you get it wrong then you lose attendance points. Really boring and would recommend taking anyone else you can get
Lectures are really boring and hard to follow as he often goes too fast. Attendance is mandatory as he does in class quizzes every lecture on iClicker. Tests are often extremely easy or way too difficult and unrelated to the homework. Homework will also take you about 1-3 hours every week due to the sheer amount. I recommend a different professor.
Majority of the work has to be done outside. Hard to understand the lectures, I just read the textbook. Difficult tests, thoroughly understand the material and be able to connect it to examples.Daily in-person iclicker questions. Iclicker questions, read the textbook beforehand or pay close attention in class. recommend another professor.
Untimed quizzes on elc, tests a little difficult, daily attendance for iclicker questions only can be done in-person, lots of homework every week, content itself is more on difficult side, doable class with this professor as long as you're teaching yourself everything and understanding it, lectures aren't helpful at all
He reads everything straight off of the slideshows and does not elaborate on anything. you are better off teaching it all to your self. my only advice to you is to find another econ professor. his tests were worded so poorly and were difficult
This guy is so boring. First thing I thought when I saw him was discord mod. He's honestly really nice but is so boring, lectures every class, and reads straight from the slides. Economics is boring enough and he didn't help. Overall if you can find literally any other professor I highly suggest doing that.
Lectures are incredibly boring he just reads off the slides and it's hard to pay attention. You will most likely be teaching yourself everything. Lots of assignments too. But quizzes are online and one of the tests is dropped which is nice bc they are hard. He seems like a nice guy and all, but overall wouldn't recommend especially at 8am.
Where to start... Lectures are fast and slow at the same time. He rambles on about simple or insignificant details then speeds over the important or difficult content. Lectures almost always go over the time mark. Asking him questions 1 on 1 will leave you more confused. Content is not the most difficult but get ready to teach yourself.
I am not sure how the other macro professors, but get ready to teach yourself if you have Kaminski. Great guy that tries to be funny but the jokes normally fly over everybody's heads if they are even listening. He lectures very quickly and basically reads right off the slides. If you study, easy A but it will be in your own.
Lectures are extremally boring and he just reads off slides. Lectures fly at a speed where you'll just have to teach yourself the content. It's not the hardest class, but not easy either. You have 3 midterms and the worst score is dropped that are worth 20% of your grade. Your final is worth 30% too so those 3 tests account for 70% of your grade.
If you could take another professor I would. He reads right off the slides and doesn't explain any of it. His lectures are very boring making it difficult to pay attention. The homework is easy but theirs at least one assignment in between each class session.
Dr. Kaminksi made this class 10x harder than it should have been. He goes so fast through the slides that you can not follow and you end up teaching yourself everything. There is homework due literally every day. He hardly knows what he's doing and literally called us his guinea pigs for the semester. TRY TO GET SOMEONE ELSE!!
Moves through slides way too fast and going to office hours will only confuse you more. Definitely take another professor if you can.
Super nice guy, The lectures are a little fast-paced, you have to work outside the class to understand the material. Homework assignments and learning assignments were super helpful and there are lots of opportunities to better your grade. extra credit is offered at the end of the semester.
I would recommend taking someone else. He is extremely boring, goes through his slides extremely fast, and he is so hard to follow during lectures. There are a lot of online assignments and his tests are so hard for no reason.
Take someone else. His lectures were not easy to follow and the exams were way harder than they needed to be. He made himself available through office hours, but couldn't even answer questions in class so I don't know how that would be helpful.
Take another professor. He is new to teaching and it shows. He will talk about the history of money for 30 mins and skip through the rest of the material that is actually important in the class. For one test he literally said he made it harder than the previous one. If you do end up stuck with him, YouTube is your friend.
He is an interesting teacher. He is new to UGA and is utilizing this first year to work out what works best but that leaves a lot of students in the dust and feeling alone. You will have lots of outside the classroom assignments and he goes through lecture really fast, so be prepared to have to look back at lecture slides to teach it to yourself.
Professor Kaminski is new to teaching. The lectures are fast-paced, and nothing he says in class is something you can't get from reading. There are a lot of out-of-class assignments, but they are a good grade booster. Attendance is mandatory as he gives in-class quizzes that are hard and it is hard to do them not in the class.
Lectures are pretty boring (fell asleep a lot or played Wordle). However, if you actually pay attention, this class shouldn't be too hard. I relied heavily on textbook reading (do it) and barely made an A. I'd say I wish I paid attention to lectures, but I got lucky and it worked out for me in the end. Pay attention to lectures though.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is a nice person but a horrible professor. I had to teach myself most of the concepts while he would talk about the evolution of money for half a period and then have it not even be close to what is on the exam. If you are stuck with him be prepared to watch a lot of YouTube and not be able to hear him half the class.
If you can, do not choose this professor! Do yourself a favor and take ECON2105 with someone else.
The presentations he makes are hard to follow and messy. I don't know what he is talking about half the time because he rambles about things and his voice is so monotoned. The homework and iclickers we do are not helpful and a waste of time. I went to his office hours and he did not answer the questions I had. Take another professor, please.
Lectures are boring and hard to follow. I felt myself falling asleep every time. Important topics are only made up of tiny sections of the lecture. For some reason, a lot of history is involved and rambles on and on about unimportant topics. Tests are harder than they seem. Try to get another professor if you can.
Was never prepared for class, lectures were straight from the textbook and there was never any extra information but then the tests were very hard. There was a 16 point curve on the final exam which shows that it was way harder than it needed to be. This was my second Econ class and it was impossible.
Sadly, Robert Kaminski is just not a good teacher. He reads straight off of his slides, which also doesn't help that much for tests and quizzes. Just recently, I studied close to 25 hours for the final, and still got a B. The problem is most of the questions are designed to trick you. You will also have to teach everything to yourself.
DO NOT TAKE. His class is so boring, he is so mono-tone and reads straight of the slides. He uses iclicker for an accuracy grade so even if you go and get the questions wrong there's basically not point in going. So much homework. You won't want to go to class because he just reads off the slides. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
Lectures are incredibly fast and extremely difficult to keep up with and pay attention to. Test are also hard. Get ready to pretty much teach yourself the course outside of class time.
I do NOT recommend Kaminski. He goes too fast through the ppt to the point which it is impossible to take notes during the lecture. If asked to go back, he says that the ppt is posted. I also do not think there was a single class that did not go over the allotted time with a required quiz. When I emailed him, his replies were snarky and unhelpful.
I feel bad because he is new to UGA and trying to find his bearings but... - he reads mundanely off of slides he didn't even create - so much assigned reading, quizzes, and practice that doesn't even help - the test questions are so confusing You can tell he is a good guy but is so socially awkward he just doesn't convey content well enough.
By the grace of God, I got an A. This was definitely the hardest college class I've taken. Professor Kaminski read off his boring PowerPoints and skimmed through the important and difficult concepts. There was a lot of homework, but there's also some extra credit. Just a glimpse at the test questions will make your heart drop.
New to UGA. Awful at teaching and explaining things. You will end up teaching material to yourself if you want to do good. Lots of homework, but easy and a grade booster. Pop quizzes given almost every lecture that makes up 5% of your grade. Very socially awkward. Didn't round up my grade when I was only .27 points away from an A, made me mad.
Is he a "good" teacher? No. But this is a lecture class, and everything you need is in the textbook. Attendance is mandatory because of in class assignments that he does everyday so stay away from the 8am's. He covers all the material you need to do well on test. Read the chapters, and take notes and you'll be fine. Difficulty is overhyped.
Take another teacher. Professor Kaminski was not a good teacher and solely read off the slides, that he didn't not create. There are pop quizzes almost every class that make up 5% of your grade. The final exam is cumulative and despite studying for a whole week, I got a B. You have to teach yourself the material in order to do well.
Though Kaminski is a smart guy, he does not know how to explain the material. I hoped going to class would help me understand, but I always left more confused. As one of the first classes I have taken at UGA, I found this class very burdensome and stressful even after putting in hours of work each week. Tests are difficult and not many questions.
He is SOOO boring. He teaches nothing. You better be ready to teach yourself. Lectures are just basically reading the slides and pop quizzes every class for participation points. Not too much workload but tests are so confusing because of its wordings. He messes the sentenced complicated and not straight forward. He is chill but too chill.
He's not your best choice out there, but if you get stuck with him, it's not the end of the world. This class was the one class I probably had the least workload in. All of the assignments are online and easy. The tests were 20% each and the final was very heavily weighted. The tests were by no means hard and they were absolutely doable.
Not a great teacher; his lectures were fast-paced, consisting of reading straight from slides. Attendance was graded with iClicker questions that were unreasonably difficult. The lectures alone don't ensure success on exams, you need to spend extensive time mastering the additional assignments he gives you to do well. The exams are short and tricky
first day of class and i couldnt follow what he was trying to do
I don't have much to say because I didn't go to class besides at the very start and for each exam. Pretty boring teacher but doesn't try to kill you by making this an artificial weed out class. Easy, straightforward opportunity to get an A. Attentively do every iclicker, achieve assignment, etc and you'll get at least a 90 if you're smart at all.
Overall, the professor cares for his students, but his long lectures and boring tone are just not it. Achieves HW has way too many things to do that aren't even necessary. The main portion of the overall grade comes from the exams just be aware.
Attendance is mandatory as you have iClicker questions every class. Also, Kaminski implements a reverse curve, meaning that my 85% was deemed to be a B-. His lectures are very boring, as he mumbles to himself and is difficult to hear. He also has little passion for the subject. Exams are in-person and a lockdown browser is required. Tons of HW.
Kaminski's class was super strange. Every class he would post 1-3 readings (each around 10-15 pages in length) and would be required to write a discussion post every class day before noon. He cold calls based on your discussion post, so be prepared. There are three 1500 word essays throughout the semester and a cumulative final (essay style).
a is a 94. he is a monotone mf who dk how to teach. idk who gave him his degree, nobody wanna be in his class. if hes your last option, pls take the class later on
His lectures were very boring and he would rush through the topics so it became very difficult to follow along. Most of the review materials for the exam do not relate to the tests. Tests were way harder than needed and I would not recommend him, but if reading a sometimes confusing textbook works for you, you might do ok. Avoid taking if possible.
Please. Take anyone else if possible. Very monotone and everything he teaches can be found word for word from lectures on YouTube. Attendance was not mandatory, but there were iClicker questions almost everyday. The test questions were also definitely out to get you. Whenever someone asked a question in a my class, he answered it sarcastically.
I want to like Kaminski, I really do. But the dude cannot teach to save his life. The lectures are so boring that they could make even the dullest people want to claw their eyes out. Other than that, tests aren't bad as they are very similar to the practice tests. Also you have to get a 94 to make an A.
Lectures can be dull, but overall easy class if you put any effort in. You can tell he is passionate about the material he teaches.
I took him F23, and he went too fast to take notes. Reads straight off the slides and his "review" is basically all of the slides combined. Attendance is somewhat mandatory because of iClicker. Test questions are sometimes too broad.
This guy is genuinely terrible at teaching. He has an extremely niche sense of humor that unfortunately does not mesh well with college students. On top of this, sitting through his lectures is more boring than watching paint dry. His test questions are somewhat ambiguous and not worded very well. Take this class with Ward if at all possible.
This class is literally not hard. Read the textbook material BEFORE he lectures about it and he will make 10x more sense. Don't just copy the words off the slides but listen to what he's saying. Review your quizzes and begin studying at least one week before tests. He is a great professor and your grades reflect that if you put in the effort.
Not the most entertaining or engaging class. Not too bad if you keep up with the homework and text book. The quizzes and test can be difficult to understand. Overall your effort will reflect your grade, be prepared to put in at least 4/5 hours a week to review lectures, homework, and textbook reading if you want an easy time in the class.
I was not a fan of this guy... he just read his slides awkwardly and was not willing to work with students at all. He seemed to be annoyed with having to teach/answer questions at time, and his lectures were insanely boring.
This class was difficult to get a good grade in. The lectures every class consisted of him reading off of each slide and moving on faster than anyone could take notes. We also had in class quizzes every single class, which were genuinely difficult. The homework also took a good chunk of time. Avoid this class if possible.
Exams are 75% of your grade, and based on his lecture slides, but it's a bunch of amounts so you have to put in a lot of time as he asks for detailed parts in the exam. Attendance is not mandatory, but he does i-clicker polls. In my personal opinion, I think his class is doable, but if you want to get an A, find another option.
Overall I liked Kaminski, he was helpful and easy to reach outside of class. I found that reading the textbook was more helpful than listening to his lectures, but as long as you put in the work you'll be fine.
idk why ppl don't fw him. overall hes a nice guy who's willing to help, but he's a monotone lecturer...the lay out of the course is straight forward, read & do the assignments. i got B's on tests and i barely went to class and read a few chapters.if you take him just read the book, do the weekly assigns. & the exam practice tests, they help a lot.
Slightly odd, a little boring, but absolutely no reason to not take him. grading was broken up well between homework, in class Iclicker ( you can do it from home :) , quizzes, and tests. The textbook and homework is where I learned the most. Just study and put in the time and you can get an A. You get what you put into it!
Kaminski is a good guy, but is just not a good professor. He is very boring in class, awkward, and cannot put concepts into simple terms. I studied for all the tests and I understood the material, but never made above an 80 on any of them. Overall grade is broken up well with homework, quizzes, and iClickers, but you have to do well on tests.
You can tell he is passionate about the subject, but his lectures are not helpful at all. You have to go to class for the participation activities but after that there is no point of being there. Tests are not that hard but I never did as well as I wanted even after hours of studying. Take someone else if you can.
I thought that for a new Professor, he was okay. The class is broken up very well, so the exams are weighted super heavily. There is an iClicker assignment everyday, so if you aren't planning on coming to class do not take this professor. If you go to class and take notes the exam should be what you expect.
Professor Kaminski talks fast and goes through slides quickly. His lectures are very boring. He's a nice person but there is a clear disconnect between him and his students. I studied a lot for his exams but I felt like his exams did not always match the material being taught.
Do not take him, he is a good guy, but is just not good at teaching. Class is mandatory because of iClicker, but the lectures aren't helpful. Sometimes he doesn't even include formulas on his slides and you have to go to the lecture to actually get them. Very boring class, but if you put in the work you will get an A/A-.
just don't take him if economics isn't your thing. so hard to learn from him and such a waste of time to have to go to class for iclicker points. tests are super hard and nothing like his practice exams. just take someone else because he is boring and not a good teacher.
Literally take anyone else. Content shouldn't be that hard but he makes the tests so difficult with questions that are out to get you. There are in-class iClicker quizzes for attendance - sometimes 3/period which are genuinely difficult as well. Sometimes I would make it to the lecture and my attendance grade would actually go down. Just zont zo it
If you're taking this class BEWARE of the iclicker quizzes. There were times when I genuinely only got 1 or 2 questions right each time, even paying attention in class. Make sure you read the textbook and take notes before class, otherwise his lectures make no sense. I'd try and take someone else if you can.
I had to get an 82 on the final when I had a 99 in the class to maintain an A in the class. Most boring lectures ever do not take him.
This guy gives the most monotone lectures. It puts everyone asleep. Makes his tests super tricky. Would not take
very boring, monotonous lectures. reads from the slides that summarize the online book. If you do all the online reading/assignments & put in good effort, you'll do fine, but u have to basically teach urself the book bc his class is so hard to stay focused in. lots of grade opportunities between iclicker, macmillan assignmens, & u get a drop test.
Kaminski does not actually teach during his class. He basically reads straight from the power points. The only reason to go to his class is to do the iClickers which are unnecessarily hard. The tests are extremely confusing and the questions are worded to try and confuse you. The homework's are not hard, but the tests are very hard to do well on.
What everyone else in these reviews has said is true. Honestly, I wish I had waited another semester to take macro and done micro first to have a better teacher.
If you take this professor, mainly focus on the readings because the lectures will mislead you. I studied his lecture notes and received a 64 on the exam without the curve, then I started studying the textbook and received an 86. His lectures are boring and take more of a review format rather than introducing a topic.
This class is really not that bad. Info on slideshows is helpful if you actually read/try to understand it & pay attention. Textbook is helpful to read through for info. Drops lowest test & a few other assignments + there are other assignments outside of tests to help your grade. Overall, Kaminski is really not bad & this class is very manageable
Try to take another prof. Lots of hw on Achieve (sometimes due over the weekend), exams worth 40% of grade, final exam worth 35% of final grade. Daily mandatory attendance on iClicker and get 50% if you choose the wrong answer. Monotone voice during lectures puts you to sleep. Need a 94 to get an A & will round your final grade down but not up.
Basic economics class with nothing new from an AP or IB economics class. Attendance mandatory via IClicker, prof is very boring, but nonetheless if you know enough basic Econ and can teach yourself, you'll be fine. Tests aren't bad and there are plenty of assignments that can pad your grade if needed. Have to put the work in to get an A but doable.
He is so boring and makes any interest you have in macro go away. He has an A being a 94 which is crazy and also your grade is really only determined by the tests and final which is annoying as well. However, I didn't put that much effort into class and got an A-, so if you pay attention and try a decent amount an A is probably very doable.
Although his lectures can be a little dry, he does a good job explaining the material if you fully pay attention. His grading policies are extremely clear. He has more office hours closer to tests, which can be very helpful. I found this professor to be very good.
He gets a lot of undeserved hate but honestly his class is really manageable. I didn't go to class at all and got an A-, so if you put the effort in you can definitely get an A. There's a lot of pre and post class stuff you have to do on the online textbook, but it's more just time consuming and tedious.
Boring lectures, better off reading textbook than his slides. iClicker questions in class were excessively hard. 1 test is dropped.
This guy sucks, take someone else or be prepared to teach yourself. I highly recommend using UGA's tutoring service bc that's the only way I managed to get an A-.
Take someone else. I struggled so much in this class because all he did was read off his slides which came directly from the textbook. However, you have to go to class because Iclickers every class. Tests are 24 questions each and a 94 is an A. Final is 30-35% of your grade.
please just listen to the reviews and avoid kaminski AT ALL COSTS.
Literally take anyone else for ECON 2105. If you have to take him, don't take the class.
The minimum grade to get an A in this class is 94, and it's hard. The Exam is a major part of the course and he is doing i-clicker for the attendance. Except for exam 1, I think other exams were similar to the practice exam that he had attached in ELC. If you are confident in self-learning, take it, if not then try to evade this class at all costs.
Tests do not usually reflect the same application we do in the homework. Lectures are unclear and are sped through. Lectures don't feel like they really help. Is not clear in explanations of math and on top of that, his handwriting is HORRIBLE so we can't understand a thing, ever.
Seems "stuck up" at first but hes not by any means, hes just overly nerdy when it comes to history and writing. He is very nice & if you have any issues or accommodations he is forgiving and kind. only complaint is hes nit picky with writing which is valid but many students are rusty writers by this class plus its a history class not a writing class
I felt that Kaminski did not prepare us well at all for tests. The course definitely needs to be reworked.
The class is easy, but Kaminski's lectures are monotone and unengaging, though they recap textbook readings well. Attendance isn't mandatory, but iClicker questions count toward your grade. There are three exams (one dropped) and a mandatory final. He reuses quiz questions on exams and curves grades, so it's manageable overall.
If you are good at self-learning you will be fine. Iclickers in class for accuracy and attendance, but he does drop the bottom 10%. Drops your lowest test grade but the tests are much harder than they should be. His office hours are helpful, but he can be confusing in his own wording. Avoid if possible, but it is manageable if you try hard.
Stay away from this professor at all costs! His lectures are very unclear, unorganized, and misleading. I would definitely not recommend taking this professor if you have a choice. You are going to have to learn everything on your own and lots of stuff on the tests, quizzes, and homework are not part of the notes in any way.
Course material was really heavy. A lot of information and the test were very difficult. Lecture was very fast pace and you'd have to learn everything by yourself by the test to get a decent grade.
I do not recommend.
Professor is unwilling to help, very inconsistent with responding to emails, and a hard grader. He makes the class harder through his teaching and to succeed, you have to go to class. So much homework too. Not very personable either.
I do not recommend, his tests are really difficult compared to other profesors and you have to teach yourself everything. there is an iclicker for every class
DO NOT TAKE KAMINSKI. You will have homework every night. His lecture slides are boring and so is he. The tests are unnecessarily hard. You have to work hard to PASS.
He seems like he tries his best so I feel bad, however, DO NOT TAKE. This class was unreasonably hard. I went to every class and still got a horrible grade on my iClicker attendance because I could never get the questions right. The tests were very hard. A lot of homework too. Do not take.
DONT TAKE THIS DUDE. You think you know the test material, you read through all the slides, all of your lecture notes (he goes super fast), and even study the practice test, and then the test itself is impossible. He also like catches his breath every sentence which is annoying, but I would try to steer clear of this fella.
DO NOT TAKE: Unreasonably hard for an intro class, Kaminski tends to nerd out and explain things in ways so kafkaesque it makes me dread the thought of going to his class. Kaminski is a terrible professor, he knows his content but does not know how to teach.
Clear, consistent, manageable assignments and fair grading made this class one of my favorites. Despite being an awkward lecturer, I always came out of class with a better understanding of the content. I was upset that in-class assignments were 5% of my grade.
Take anyone else. Kaminski's lectures are horrible, he is a bad teacher, and his course work is easy compared to the exams. Just take someone else.
Lectures are SO FAST and boring, not engaging at all and super hard to follow, course work is easy, but tests are hard. Final is 40-45% of your grade depending on if you do optional assignments. Tests are in person and lockdown browser.
Incredibly boring lectures that move too fast for you to even take notes on. Nice guy and willing to help but his lecture style makes the tests (35% of grade) harder than they need to be. Would avoid him if you can.
I don't know how I made an A in this course, but please!!! AVOID THIS DUDE.
All semester, this is the only class I struggled hard. I can tell he is not a bad person, but he is not a good teacher IMO. His lectures are extremely fast and often disorganized. You can't even take notes before class, so I often had to catch up on notes after class. homework almost every single day. and his exams are difficult. Save your sanity.
This was truly one of the worst classes I have taken. I could not recommend him less. He lectures every single class and speaks way too fast to comprehend. The class consists of 3 tests that are not from what he teaches. Attendance is not mandatory, but almost every class has at least one in-class clicker, so you have to go. Avoid at all costs.
Took him this semester thinking some of the reviews were exaggerating, but boy was I wrong. If you are about to take his class because it fits your schedule better, do not take it. He is very monotone, his lectures are just bland, and the amount of homework is just annoying. Intro classes should not be this hard.
I really thought the reviews were disgruntled freshmen who were just unprepared and didn't put in the work. But no, he really is that bad. He's monotone, doesn't respond to emails, and gives an almost comical amount of homework. Really just take anyone else or take it a different semester. I have no clue why he's made a macro class a weedout.
DO NOT, SERIOUSLY DO NOT. Everything about him, his teaching style, exams, lecture is a no
Honestly I didn't hate Kaminski as much as other people on this page. I will say I enjoyed the content of the lectures but the test were hard just like every economics class for me. I feel like I am being asked PhD level questions on a test in an intro class. Make the homework or PA assignments count for more credit and take pressure off tests.
Hey! So he's actually terrible. I wouldn't even wish my worst enemy to take this class. This class was hard for no reason. The practice exams were helpful (except the first one), but he drops 1 exam. No amount of preparation will prepare you. Despite the reviews, I took him and I will never live this trauma down. BTW: please listen to the reviews
When you ask him for help of any kind in person, he looks at you like you have three heads. When you go to extra help, the TA's do not even know how to do the awful questions he makes up. Once gave us an answer in class that was different than one of our quiz answers, and he refused to change our grades on the quiz
Really hard to follow, tests us on stuff he never taught, goes really fast in lectures
Super fast lecturer and none of the content actually made sense. Going to the tutor was the only way I learned. Homework due after almost every class and attendance was mandatory. Quizzes were take home but tests were in person. Not super difficult but didn't learn anything. Would not take if you are an Econ major.
He's a nice guy, but not the best prof I've had. He's knowledgeable but teaches too fast and in a somewhat confusing way. Because of how the course is structured, if you're good at self-learning and get outside help (TAs, tutoring) you can definitely do well. Lots of practice/HW assigned. You can also do the quizzes with others. Good grading system
He is a great guy but is an alright teacher. He has a lot of content in his slides and goes through them pretty fast so be prepared when taking his class. Homework and quizzes there relatively simple just make sure you do them on time. He's not a bad teacher just not the best. If you do take him, go to the TA's office (you'll thank me later)
Dude is so boring during lectures and talks so fast for no reason. You have to use outside resources that aren't offered by him like YouTube to fully comprehend the material. And even with his monotone lectures, he makes the grading scale ridiculously hard (A=94, A-=90,...). Avoid this dude at all costs.
I don't know why Kaminski is rated so low, he was nice and I could tell he was trying to explain every concept and relate to his students. lecture heavy, online homework/quizzes every week that honestly really helped me understand concepts. You can do the clicker from home for attendance credit, as long as you study outside of class you'll be fine
To be honest I don't really understand all the hate he gets; yes his class isn't the easiest but it's definitely doable. Many at home assignments and quizzes but they truly were useful when trying to learn the material. Biggest downside is the tests as they were a bit tricky. Overall, don't be afraid; if you put in the work you'll do well.
goated professor, funny quips in class keep you attentive to the lectures. The concepts are hard to grasp as it is economics, but he provides plenty of resoucres to study (learning curves). iClicker sucks and is basically a mini pop quiz but he is gracious with the credit. He is open for office hours consistently. double-check answers on tests
Being totally honest, he exudes a sort of nervous energy, but I think it's just because he wants people to enjoy his class. He's always making little quips or one liners to make lectures fun. The material is somewhat confusing, but he makes himself very available and between him and his TAs there are office hours open every week day.
Very monotone lectures, tries to be engaging but falls short. I found the practice exams to be very similar to the tests, so i would study those. The lectures were made by the textbook so i would also recommend reading that to succeed and understand. Difficult course with a professor that is not extremely engaging but he seemed like a nice guy
this class is so difficult for no reason. you can tell he is genuinely passionate. if you slave away then you will succeed and that is what he expects of you. pretty impatient and unhelpful when you ask questions about complex concepts. very smart so i think has a hard time dumbing down concepts into any kind of understandable way. tests are SOHARD
The class required iClickers, so I had to come in every day even when he didn't actually take attendance. Lectures were long and boring; I ended up studying mostly on my own. Exam and quiz questions are easier than expected. Not very engaging in class (I fell asleep a lot).
The lectures are mandatory and missing just a few will bring your attendance grade down. Other than that he is a good professor. It's a little boring but he makes jokes and tries to keep you engaged. The tests are not hard as long as you do the practice tests and study those. I would recommend reading the textbook too since it is pretty useful.
AVOID KAMINSKI IF POSSIBLE - take Ward or someone else. Kaminski talks SO fast, very confusing. Lectures are often unhelpful, but you have to go to class for iClickers. Tests are unproportionally hard, though not many questions. HIS WORDING IS TERRIBLE, read every question a few times, they're very confusing. Homework is light, weekly quizzes
I think he's a nice guy, but he made this class so much harder than it needed to be. His lectures served as summaries of the topics rather than introducing it. Lots of homework through achieve, and not great at responding to emails. Tests are tough and are worth literally 70% of your grade. Overall, I would avoid if possible.
Very boring, you have to go to class for Iclickers, and you have to teach yourself everything.
Dr. Kaminski is a great professor, economics as a subject is prone to being boring he made the class enjoyable. If you don't read the textbook it's going to be difficult to learn because every concept builds on the last, but he posts all his slides, practice questions, and practice exams so if you're doing that and going to class you'll succeed.
He was alright, but his lectures were often overwhelming. He has a bunch of information on the slides and also expands on the topic very quickly so note taking was sort of difficult. Overall the class was manageable as long as you can delegate your time well and put some effort in.
Getting used to this class format was hard but after the first test you get the hang of it. Read the textbook and STUDY THE PRACTICE TESTS and you can get a A/B. Go to class to get the clicker attendance points and keep up with PA homeworks.
If the iclickers didn't matter i would say dont bother going to class because you have to teach yourself anyway. He did seem to really care about his class and material, but wasn't able to properly teach it. Its a very test heavy class, with midterms and exams counting for 70% of your grade. Utilize the practice exams, they are similar to the test!
The class is manageable if you put in the effort. Lectures can be dry, but explanations are clear if you pay attention. Use Unstuckstudy and the textbook to supplement - this helps offset the dull lectures.
The class is difficult, and he's not super explicit, but compared to classes like ochem/bio he's really not that bad of a teacher. There's a lot of outside work but imo I think many reviews here are business majors mad they have to do homework outside of class for a hard class.
