Class was okay. Keil sometimes thinks he's better than you though. Always gave half-answers in lab. Tests weren't too difficult. Overall okay teacher.
he doesn't explain very well, thinks he's all that
This class will take up most of your time, but Dr. Keil is available, & makes resources available (like old tests),& he's FUNNY! Lectures prepare for what exams are like. Show all work, keep up w/ book & homework! Take a good Chem prep class semester b4
he is a horrible teacher doesn't explain
He is a very good teacher. as long as you read the book and go to the lectures you'll be fine.the lectures are fun and he is very friendly.take his classes you'll enjoy.
great class, he keeps it interesting which is hard to do with this subject. he's halarious and really approachable. i recomend him.
FUNNY guy and great teacher. he's honest about the subject, doesn't act like chem is flawless or chemists are gods as i've seen some scientists do. he knows his stuff and is down to earth.
he is not the greates teacher- hard to follow him in the lectures- you basicly should study the book very well and you will be fine- other then that he is not great but he is nice kindda- depends to who....
Dr. keil is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He explains every thing. He is always there if you have any questions. I learned so much from him. Take his class. You'll enjoy it.
do yourself a favor and don't take dr. keil. (take dr. berg!!) his lectures are hard to follow, and he doesn't really seem to care about how you are doing in the class.
I enjoyed this class-partly b/c of him and partly b/c of what I put into it. I think you get what you want out of the class with him. If you pursue him and ask questions he is very helpful. If you show up and do your part, the class is great.
The subject is not easy at all. Dr. Keil does his best to teach it. If you like organization, you won't like Dr. Keil. He tends to jumble around. The subject is just plain difficult.
He knows his material very well, and is always there to help you during his office hours, regardless of the difficulty of the problem. However, in lab, he is easily disgruntled when students ask for help with the experiment.
Class was fairly difficult. I ended up with the highest grade, but it was no walk in the park. Bonded with him a little bit by visiting him during office hours, and he's really a great guy. You have to know your stuff if you've graduated from Berkeley's chem department. I'd recommend him!
He says Inorg Chem I has the highest fail rate at MC. He highly recommends the Intro class. I didn't have the time or money for that BS. I went to every lecture, completed every lab & homework. I studied hard for exams using prior exams he posts. I ended up with a B. Do the work and you'll get the grade. He's smart and wants you to pass, do you?
Read the comments and you see the pattern. girls love Dr.keil and so does he. so if you are a girl who can fake smiling, playing it dumb and all that he will respond to you.If you are a guy who just wants to learn without ass-kissing, you dont wanna take this class.
This is an extremely hard class. I got an A, but I had to say goodbye to my social life. Don't miss any class, and try to read between the lines of his lectures. He may seem laid back, but he will "seperate the men from the boys." He will help you if he knows you're not a slacker, and trust me, he can tell right off the bat.
people warned me about him and i don't know why. he's a helpful teacher, but this class is HARD! (regardless of who teaches it) just pay attention and study often and you will pass. don't blame the teacher when you fail a class! it's not their fault you slacked off
Take it somewhere else if at all possible.
He doesn't like explaining things in class. He always says, "This is how you do it because I said so." He wants students to memorize ideas instead of understanding them. He's helpful when you ask Q's outside of class, but he's confusing during class. It is easy to earn an A if you read the text. But, no credit should go to him for earning that A.
Kiel is awsome, he is really funny and keeps class interesting. He isn't the best person at explaining things however if you read the book and ask questions you'll pass this class.
You can't avoid him for this class because he is the only teacher, he is not very helpful in his lectures, he spends more time trying to be funny (which he is very funny) than actually teaching the material. He will give examples but not tell you anything about the examples. The only way to pass the class is memorize the book.
Does not explain too clearly
He's funny, cute and does a good job teaching a very boring subject. Be prepared for a lot of memorizing.
Keil was great. I'm an average Chemistry student and this was my favorite class. Yes the material is somewhat difficult, but he makes the class a very humorous and fun place to be. He is VERY hyper all the time due to his caffeine addiction, but it adds to humor. Tests can be difficult. Study a lot! He's a good choice though.
Who knew chemistry could be so much fun? I had a hatred of chemistry going into the class and after taking Dr. Keil, I found the subject very interesting. He's adorable and very funny during lecture. The tests were not bad at all and I felt like I had a lot of free time outside of class, unlike a lot of other science classes I've taken. Take him!
Dr. Keil brags about his Ph.D. he is all over the place in his lectures and if you don't have background in chemistry, you probably shouldn't take him. He is funny but annoying. KEEP TRACK OF WORK AND ALL LABS. he loses work and doesn't mark it off. Just be on top of things and you'll pass.
Definitely did a great job of making such a dull subject entertaining. He's fun (as much as one can be for chemistry) and bubbly-- very energetic! He seemed to joke about what we needed to know for tests, as in seeming to kid about needing to memorize a long list of something, but in fact you DID need to know it. I'd recommend.
He is like a MONKEY running around class. hes always high off of caffeine and makes class fun! lol the subject matter is HARD so the tests are a killer but he does give prac tests and a lot of it is similar to his actual tests. some are right off the prac. i got an A but i worked pretty darn hard to get it! overall he's alright. id take him again.
worsttt teacher i have ever had or heard of! DO NOT TAKE KEIL IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT!!!Not only is he all over the place but he doesnt know anythinnnng about ochem... about half the stuff he taught us he would tell us the next day that he made a mistake!!! expects you to already have a degree in class....WORST PROF EVER! doesnt know his stuff!
Dr. Keil is an awesome, approachable, knowledgeable, and compassionate man. His teaching style is bit different, but read the book if you don't understand his simplified explanations. To the comments below, he does give partial credit to those who can spell correctly. You also must be a complete idiot to not get his humor and sarcasm. Love him :)
great teacher! uses simple analogy to make it easy and fun
Really knows material and loves subject. passionate but a horrible teacher. very intelligent but does not know to relay information to students. Funny and makes class entertaining. Has favorites which matters for partial credit. The class was difficult because you had to learn it on your own
great professor. actually pay attention and make an effort to learn the material and you'll do fine
DONT TAKE HIM!!! He zips through everything without going back 2 explain what he just did. He also shows u "the wrong way" 2 do problems which only makes this class harder than it already is. hes all over the place. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone taking this for the first time or haven't taken chem in a long time. u basically got to teach ursel
Great teacher. I HIGHLY recommend him. As long as you can take good notes and come to class, with a bit of studying, you should be just fine. He has a great personality and is very willing to help if you talk to him. I loved taking this class, and plan on taking him again for Chem.
This class is pretty easy. Lectures are helpful because most test questions come straight from what he talks about during lecture. You get credit for showing up to lab but he does check to see if you did the lab correctly, even though you still get full credit by just showing up. You will get an A if you actually study.
Prof. Keil is a great teacher. He is very entertaining and easy going. But chem has memorization and math. You need to keep up. If you attend class and do the homework you'll do fine!
Prof. Keil is a really good teacher. Fun and clear, but don't get complacent. This is one of the hardest classes at Moorpark! You must attend and you must do practice problems. Keep up and you'll be fine.
AWESOME prof. Great guy, take his class.
by far the best class i have ever taken. he explains he material in a way students can understand and makes class entertaining. the tests were tough, but with a little studying they are easy. the tests are material straight from homework (not mandatory homework)
As a guy, Prof Keil is a lot of fun, he tells jokes and makes class more enjoyable. As a teacher, the does tend to be a little immature at times and isnt always clear in explaining things, but if you study and do the homework, you'll do fine.
Chemistry is hard but he is always willing to help. The labs are not burdensome. The tests are fair not rushed and the many practice tests are a great resource. My advice to Dr. Keil is to use his own lecture outline. For students, be prepared to study a lot if you want an A or even a B.
Probably the best teacher i've had in chemistry actually a challenging class and he makes the material less dry if you will. Tests come straight from the homework and workbook. Make sure you study or you wont pass the class.
If you don't particularly like or easily understand chemistry, I would discourage you from taking Dr. Keil. He's nice and he's funny, but he's also a bit unorganized and doesn't explain things very clearly. Overall, a decent teacher.
The best chem teacher out there. Actually made me very interested in chemistry. Funny guy who grades pretty easily. Labs are nothing difficult at all. Study the notes and you'll do fine.
Hands down the best teacher I've had in years...because he WANTS to teach you! Honor your end of the deal:study, use the text, ask questions, attend lectures, etc. and you WILL get that "easy A". WRITE, WRITE, WRITE! more notes = A! Too often students expect cakewalks, no work, giveaway A's...well.. grow up! practice makes perfect. PEACE!
taking him this semester and he seems like a GREAT teacher. ask him for help and hell help you. has a great spirit and loves what he teaches. just took my first test today and it didn't seem too hard. his labs all you gotta do is show up pretty much and you'll get full credit. his notes are pretty useful and he explains the subject pretty good
He is an awesome professor! I really enjoyed his class. It is not easy but so informative! Liked him so much that I wish I had to take another chemistry course just to take his class! I wish all my professors could take a lesson on how to teach from him.
Dr. Keil war one of the most quirky, intimidatingly intelligent professors I've ever had. I enjoyed his class more than any class I took at moorpark. He managed to make the class bearable, and since it is the first of the "difficult" science classes, he did well articulating difficult material to those willing to learn. PROCRASTINATION=FAIL
You have to constantly teach yourself.. as long as you discipline yourself and get his exam style, you should be fine. Ochem is hard and students expect him to spoon feed everyone.. when you transfer to a four yr its gonna be worse. Study and practice everyday when you can. Do not slack. His practice exams helps a lot, too. Good luck!
Taking ochem with Dr. Keil was awesome and I really enjoyed his class. He made it very interesting and fun to learn about. He's very helpful and easy to talk with. Do a lot of practice problems from the book and the old exams, and you should be fine.
Organic chemistry is the hardest class I have ever taken and Keil knows its a tough subject. He knows the material well, but can get side tracked in lectures easily. Labs are easy, just grades for completeness. About 4 exams. HARD exams. And the final is the ACS Organic Chemistry exam. EXTREMELY HARD. He tries to explain the best he can.
Keil is a great teacher. The subject matter is difficult but he is really helpful in class and in office hours. Do not expect him to give you a "fill in the blanks" lecture though. You must read the book and show up to class. He is really animated and fun to learn from.
To those who question the quality of my community college education, I simply offer 3 words: Dr. freaking Keil. Keil is one of my favorite professors of all time. He's insanely smart, ridiculously funny, fair, and, above all else, he genuinely cares about his students. If you want to succeed, you will. Ochem is hard, but choosing Keil isn't.
Dr. Keil makes organic chemistry very easy to understand, and makes it approachable. He really cares about his students, and gives great ways to remember the information. Really smart guy, and has so much knowledge on a variety of topics. If you have to take ochem, you'll want to take it with him. He's one the best professors I've ever had.
Prof. Keil is one of the most fair professors I have ever taken. O-chem is hard, you can't expect him to just give you an A. You definitely want to read the textbook and go to his office hours, and you'll have a good chance at getting a good grade. He is very funny and sarcastic, it made lectures a lot of fun. 100% recommend him.
He's a nice guy but a very confusing professor. He doesn't even lecture from the book or use book examples. He points out the wrong way which is confusing. He tries to be funny with his lectures but again confusing. He covers the next chapter in lecture right before he makes us take the current chapter exam! RIDICULOUS and again, confusing.
I was dreading this class. Chemistry is not my subject. But Dr. Keil made it almost painless! It was a tough class with lots of material covered, but the tests were fair, and there were enough of them to keep you from falling behind or getting killed by one or two hard topics. His lectures were clear and actually pleasant. Great experience overall.
Take Keil if u have a good chemistry foundation.. Otherwise, I strongly urge u to take someone else. He assumes that everyone already knows the content, even though most people had not taken chem since high school. He is disorganized and always goes off on tangents. Yes, he is entertaining, but I would rather be his friend than have him as a prof.
His lectures arent structured and most of the time do not correlate to what you are tested on. He is bad at answering questions and when he does he wont finish answering it or will do it wrong more often than not. Overall not good if you want to understand or move onto further chemistry classes.
if you show up and actually participate, its a really easy A. the students who did poorly showed up late and just didn't care about the class. Dr. Keil is really funny, super dry sense of humor
This class is not a cakewalk. You cover a lot of complicated material in a short amount of time. That said, the students who complained the most were the same students who were not consistently reading the textbook and/or not taking lab seriously. Use every resource offered to you (such as old exams & office hours) and you will succeed.
Dr. Kiel speeds through his lessons and doesnt give comprehensible examples. Half the time I dont even know whats going on. Dr. Joiner is a better lecturer. Once I walk into lab he has such a poetic way of explains what Kiel was supposed to teach us prior. I wouldnt take another class from Kiel.
I had Prof. Keil for Lab. Obviously we worked in groups, not in lectures. He is very nice and available for help. He is easy to approach and very smart. He is always happy and never appears to not care. He really just wants to help in any way he can. Don't miss class. It is so easy to fall behind, even before you know it. Keep up.
Best professor Ive ever had! Very caring and a good teacher! I had migraines and he literally brought me a book to read about what causes them. Very thoughtful. Very funny!!! The lectures arent difficult and he loves questions and always explains! I was scared to take chem but he made it enjoyable!! 12/10 professor!
Obviously chem is tough but if you show up and pay attention and actually take time to study and finish hw on time you will get a great grade. I had an A but dropped down in my grade due to Corona difficulties and had an 78%. He really cares and extends hw as needed and truly cares for his students. Do not be late for labs, door will be locked.
Super easy going and fantastic teacher! Cares a lot about making your experience as easy as possible. Doesn't even give tests only quizzes worth not much!
I am taking Chemistry because I have to and Professor Keil makes it more understandable and he is very understanding. I'm a slow learner and need to pause his lecture videos every now and then but he is very clear what he teaches. Not a lot of assignments but quizzes are on the difficult side. He has a fun personality too which makes learning fun.
Prof Keil is a really nice guy and wants his students to succeed, and gives you every possible resource to do so. However you have to be responsible for your own grade. He has no deadlines and his zooms are optional. So if you are not good at time management or holding your self accountable, maybe this course is not for you.
Professor Keil comes off as a quirky, somewhat kooky chemist, but given the circumstances of COVID, it makes sense. Although, got the impression he was like this all the time. However, his recorded lectures online were on point and professional. Practice quizzes are exactly like the quizzes so study up. He makes chemistry fun to learn!
He knows the subject really well and his assessments relate to what he went over in class. Straight forward class, no surprises! Also a funny and interesting guy!
Prof K is one of the best chemistry professors Ive ever met. His teaching methods for o chem are so easy to understand and he is great at explaining concepts. The only grades in the class are from tests and labs, BUT he is an extremely fair grader and provides practice tests a week before the exam. 11/10 would recommend :)
Hes a good professor but be wary. Very lecture heavy but the labs are amazing and lots of fun. Has a bit of attitude at times but overall good
Prof Keil is a great chem teacher. He really wants you to succeed and gives you all the tools to pass. Attendance isn't mandatory except for lab and tests. His online lectures/videos are a bit more structured than in-person as he's a bit scattered-brained.He's really funny, quirky, and explains everything really well. Won't regret taking this class
Professor Keil knows the material very well. HW is optional, and the grade is based just on quizzes and labs. The quizzes throw no curveballs, (he gives good practice) but he takes forever to grade them. His lectures are all over the place, but he has videos that are somewhat more on track. If you put in a slight amount of effort, you'll get an A.
Prof Keil is the best!! Definitely take him! He understands we aren't going to be chemists so he makes everything simple. It was a hybrid class so I only attended labs and quiz days. As long as you show up and complete the labs and study the practice quizzes you can totally get an A. Super nice and kind of goofy but his class was really enjoyable!!
Professor Keil is both professional and enthusiastic about teaching chem. He makes lectures enjoyable and knows how to keep students engaged. He is very helpful and understanding. Best professor at Moorpark hands down.
Took Gen. Chem. in the spring (hybrid course). If you don't have a science background, be prepared to study hard + do tutoring. Overall, Keil simplifies concepts as much as possible! You can tell he cares about his students + is passionate about chem. Lab assignments helped me a lot to bump my grade in the class overall. Lecture + test heavy!
Professor Keil is an excellent professor of Chemistry and will make complex subjects digestible and fun. I was so nervous about taking Chem M11 and doing well, but Professor Keil's teaching style made it achievable. Quizzes all through the semester that he gives study guides for which prepare you very well. Definitely take his class!
Keil is amazing! Always there to answer any questions and his quizzes are exactly like the practice quizzes he gives out. An A is definitely doable. Lectures aren't mandatory but they help a lot. No big exams, just quizzes every other week. If you pay attention and know what's going on, you will do great!
Prof Keil is one smarty pants, he knows a lot abt his subject, especially in chem m11. His lectures are quite long in person (attendance not mandatory) but online he has pre recorded videos that are extremely professional and to the point. You can have a conversation with him abt literally anything. His tests are SAME as the practice tests, easy A.
Great teacher, my favorite part about him was how he just didn't care. It was remarkable, as he was also very equitable and had great lectures. He's an excellent teacher and always includes interesting stuff to try and confuse you. This course answered all my questions, but now I have many more.
The guys alright, there's no homework and you're mainly graded on quizzes. He's a good professor if you already know the subject well but if you need a bit of assistance, try to reach out to him more and ask questions. The labs are easy n fun, easy points. As long as you dedicate time to watch his videos and lectures you shouldn't have any problems
his in person lectures are not that good compared to the video lectures that he has on canvas from pandemic. he is a good professor just show up for lab and do good on the quizzes you should be fine :) i took this class with no prior knowledge of chem! just put in the time effort and you will do good.
Took this class and was a little nervous but he makes lectures and labs pretty easy to understand. Just study lots for tests and make sure to find a good lab group.
Professor Keil is a nice guy and funny, but his in-person lectures fall a little short. They're not super organized and don't make it clear exactly what you might need to know for the quiz. Quizzes are HARD and make up most of your grade. Study your notes more than the practice quiz. Labs are great. Pre-recorded lectures on canvas are excellent.
Professor Keil is one of the best professors I've had so far at MPC. He is funny, and if you put in the work to understand the topics, can be an easy class. He provides tons of practice for tests and quizzes and frequently reuses the questions from the quizzes on the tests making studying for them super easy. I Wish I could take him for M01B.
Lectures feel rushed and unorganized. He skims through the slides and often gets side tracked making it hard to know what's going on. He always shows you "the wrong way" to do things which is so unnecessary and confusing. Test heavy, homework optional, labs are ok. Just do good on the quizzes and be prepared to teach yourself a lot of the material.
The course consisted of only labs and “quizzes,” which were exams. There was a test every other week with long labs, if you bombed the tests there was no way to make it up wi
Professor Keil [said like Kyle] is funny and has the most lax lab you will ever take. His lectures can seem a little jumpy but I promise everything you need is in them, so take good notes and ask questions. He gives great examples of how to do the work and if you do the homework and practice quizzes (which aren't required) this class is a cakewalk.
professor keil made chem1a an extremely easy class to learn from; his lectures were a bit unorganized, but if you watch the pre-recorded ones that he provides, you'll be fine. his labs were straightforward and he explained everything beforehand, and his exams were all based on the content he taught in lecture and gave in practice quizzes.
Definitely recommend this professor, he is so nice and explains lectures well! he is always there to answer questions. For my class, we only had quizzes every two weeks instead of exams every 2 months. There is no homework, but you do have to put in the time to study, and you will be set. There is a cumulative final at the end of the semester.
I love professor Keil, he's the goat.
He is a great professor that really likes to teach, and he makes the subject fun
If you're not good at chem/are not a chem major, DO NOT take his class. He's a good man, but he's unorganized, more focused on making the class laugh, and is chaotic with his notes + lectures. Quizzes are half of your grade, he contradicts what you will/won't need to know on a test, practice quizzes are not the same as real test. Save yourself.
hes very funny and pretty good at explaining difficult concepts. i took this class after not doing a chem class since 2019 and i didnt do as bad as i thought i would. ask questions even if he judges them cause he doesnt actually GAF. take the class!
Keil is such a funny dude! Lectures are not boring at all and he makes it manageable. However, most of the grade is quizzes there are retakes. Definitely made me enjoy chemistry more than I thought, and built a sense of curiosity in me. Watch the video lectures he posts on canvas.
