mr kennedy is a good teacher.it helps if you pay attention in class and take good notes. theres no homework , 2 papers a midterm and a final. it sounds easy but you have to really understand and evaluate the material to pass.
Very boring. Lectures the whole class. Tells a joke every once and a while that only he laughs at. Tries to make up for his lameness, but not that successful. Would not recommend him to anyone.
He doesn't tell you what he expects from assignments. You are left to fend for yourself, but if it isn't to his liking you might as well have turned in nothing. For an entry level course, his lectures don't relate enough to the material you're tested on.
Good teacher. He did a good job covering material in one semester that realistically should take two. His lectures are straignt forward, tests are taken from the lecture notes. If you go to class, take good notes, read the text and his BB postings you'll do fine. He is available for additional help if you ask. I'd take him again.
Professor Kennedy is a good professor. He is not impossible, he just expects his students to do the work and pay attention. He knows exactaly what he is talking about and covers material completely. The beginning is rough because his expectations are high, but then you know what he is looking for iand its not that bad. GOOD NOTES ARE A MUST!!!
BORING!! He lectures every class and if you say 1 word he gets all down your throat. Expects way too much out of a gen ed. course. For your papers just cite everything because if you dont he will fail it. He gave me a 59 on my paper because I didn't cite 1 thing in the paper. Wouldnt recommend him.
Professor Kennedy may lecture a lot and his tests are hard, but if you go to class, take thorough notes and study, you will pass. It's college, people! He is very willing to help and will come in during hours that are not listed as office hours. He knows his material and if he is not sure, he will find a definite answer. Very kind, enjoyed his clas
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS! he gave me an F on my paper because i didnt cite one sentence! and he takes WEEKS to grade! dont do it!
he managed to make us history, something i've been learning about since i was born.. very very very challenging. you have to memorize weird parts of his lecture. quizzes and tests are very hard. talks the entire time. SO boring. do not recommend him. and no use of text book so don't bother buying it. its all about his lectures.
classes are extremely boring..he grades papers like hes an editor for a newspaper, you have to memorize his lectures from the notes you were taking while you were trying not to fall asleep..if u like to do do pointless work take this class otherwise avoid taking him at all costs
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! He started lecturing the FIRST class!! His lectures don't always match up with the exams (all essay and short answer) He failed my paper for ONE sentence!!
I don't know why everyone is so critical of him! I thought he was a great teacher! Gives very good lectures but make sure you take really good notes. All of his tests and quizzes are based off his lectures. He likes when students ask good questions and if he doesn't know the answer, he will make sure to get back to you the next day with an answer!
Don't believe any of this BS people wrote. Professor Kennedy was an extremely knowledgeable, able, kind teacher. It's history, it's not supposed to be fun. People are just bawwing because they failed the class, and that was their own fault, not any of his. If you asked him, he would help. His lectures were fine, and the tests were reasonable.
Okay, I love history but this guy made me wanna gag every time I stepped in class. He is a hard grader with the papers he assigns. Lectures are boring, and is too wordy. Test & notes don't always correlate. Take someone else if possible!
OMG!!!This teacher is one your stuck with not one you pick by free will. This class is extremly hard. I dont know if he was an english teacher but he grades essays and the two papers harsh. The quizzes were nothing to play with either. You can tell he tries to make the class indulging but to no avail. Pretty boring lectures.
Did not use the textbook at all. You MUST go to class or you will miss several pages of notes. His quizzes and exams are difficult, essay format. There were two papers due throughout the semester as well. Ok teacher, tough if you dont pay attention.
His class is very in depth. He gives a lot of very vital information, and only tells you what you need to know. Just show up for class, write what he says, and prepare efficiently and you'll be just fine. Do NOT underestimate the requirements.
Great teacher, attend lectures, take notes, ask questions and youll do fine. gives study guides for quizzes and tests, answers any questions you may have, very nice. it may be boring but if you pay attention then you'll do fine.
do not buy all of the books at start. we only used two darkness at noon and utopia. waste of money on books. i bought 12 only used two. wait and read syllabus to find out what books you really need. quizzes are tough and hes picky
He is boring first off. Secondly, he provides the information but his grading is hard and you will have to ask for additional help during his office hours. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take his class because you only have 5 grades: 2 quizzes, a mid- term, a paper, and your final, & with his grading your grades are worse then your expectations.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He failed our entire class for our second paper. We only get 6 grades the whole semester. Two quizes, two papers, midterm and final. This is a 100 level course and half of the class is failing. His grading is completely unfair and he doesn't care to listen to anyone about it or drop the lowest grade or anything.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN'S CLASS!He has no IDEA what he is doing. On the second paper he gave a 0 to HALF the class for plagerism. His reason for me plagerizing was because he thought I was citing the book when I clearly cited a website. Wont listen to reason. Was FORCED to give a 50 point curve because the entire class was failing overall.
FIRST OFF, let me begin by saying you cant miss a day of his lecture, if you do, then your dead on the quizzes, He doest give test just quizzes, and the quizzes are okay, just you have to write as much as you can about a topic. His grading is hard but if you write everything he says in the lect. youll b ok.Very good at explaining events,
DO NOT TAKE ThiS CLASS...first off i hate history. he just lectures the whole class and his quizes are super hard. the only grades u get in the class are quiz grades so if u do bad u screwed. super boring and monotone
Go to class and take good notes and you will pass. He doesn't use the book so attendence is essential. All your grades will consist of only a few test and a paper or two. Don't underestimate this class, you must work at it to do well. Quizes and test are all in essay format.
MUST ATTEND CLASS. DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOK. tests and quizzes are completely based on lecture, very important to go to class and take notes. 2 quizzes, 1 midterm and final, 1 paper. he's very helpful and will always answer any questions you have
He was an excellent teacher. He knew what he was talking about and wanted his students to succeed. If you didn't pay attn in class you most likely fail. Class attendance is a MUST, he doesnt use ppt, he is strictly lecture. I would strongly advise study groups etc. This is not an easy A, but he is very fair.
DONT DO IT. YOU'LL BE SORRY!!! he is a very difficult professor to have. There is no chance of passing if you don't go to class ALL THE TIME. he doesnt use PPT or anything. he speaks the entire class. He is a nice guy but its still difficult to get an A in his class.
Kennedy is a very good professor. He admits to not knowing everything and will research an question that he can't answer. He doesn't use powerpoints but posts tons of maps, study guides, and lecture outlines so you are covered. He is the Shit.
Professor Kennedy is the cat's pajamas. As long as you put forth the effort, you can easily breeze through his class.
Always come to class. Take lots of notes. Don't buy the books until you understand which ones he will use. For the quizzes and midterm, study your notes and write down what he said in class, as much of it as you can. Do this and you will pass well. I enjoyed the class, he's adamant about subject, so it's not difficult to pay attention.
Very good Professor. Come to class everyday or get the notes. Only does short answer for quizzes and an additional essay on tests. Very clear about everything and open to questions. You need to study for this class, it is not an easy A or B.Come everyday and study all the terms and essays for the study guides, really enjoyed his class.
Granted history is not my best subject, this was the most discouraging difficult class ive had. There is no chance to pass if you dont go to EVERY class. His tests are difficult cause hell give you 80 terms and test you on 5. The only class that made me cry.
Very smart teacher... expects that students should be as smart, but willing to help @ times... uses notes for quizzes, but strict about wording...
Dr.Kennedy is actually quite helpful. The class was boring because he just lectures the whole time but he answers questions and is helpful. If he doesnt know the answer he will find out for you. MUST ATTEND CLASS in order to pass the tests. but their are only two. He gives like 20 terms to study and only puts 6 on the test and tells you to pick 3
he is just horrible. don't take him unless you want to devote your life to this class...even then you probably won't do well. impossible grader and shows no sympathy. not to mention, he puts you to sleep every class.
History is one of my best subjects but this class makes me feel like I don't know anything about it. I stress every quiz or test because he gives you a huge list of words that MAY be on it. Final exam is also this way, which i think is a horrible idea. This class is very discouraging to the student :(
Dr. Kennedy is a phenomenal professor. His lectures are entertaining, and his attitude is more than friendly and accommodating. Make sure to have a laptop or be a quick writer and take AS MANY NOTES AS POSSIBLE. Overall, if your interest is history, he's one of the best professor to take a class from.
Dr. Kennedy is an amazing teacher. You dont need the book but I found the textbook itself very helpful when editing notes. He will give you two quizzes, a mid-term, and a final. He gives 20 terms and picks 4 the exams he adds 4-5 essay questions and picks two. Very strict on grading, much effort for an A, attendance is an must if you want to pass.
Awesome Professor - easily the best I've had at Old Dominion. You have to show up to get the notes - he doesn't use a book, but if you put the effort into it, you can get an A. This guy knows his stuff - would definitely take him again.
Dr. Kennedy was relatively easy, his knowledge of history is incomparable to any other professor. Overall the workload is much but people need to take notes and attend every class. And be prepared to write a final paper.
He is the most helpful teacher I have had at ODU. couldn't ask for a better teacher. the only homework is a paper due at the end of the semester which he gives you at the beginning of the year.
His class is relatively easy. You need to attend all his classes though. PLEASE don't bother to buy the book, you don't use it at all. Go to class and take notes and you'll be fine. Be prepared for a straight lecture though. He's always willing to help you. One of the best professors I've had here at ODU.
Great class!! You can tell he is very passionate about history. Either way, just take good notes and you'll pass the tests. They're just on terms with possible short answers. The papers are strict though; need good footnotes! Easy and fun class!
He is a very good professor, but a hard grader. There are two essays and a final. For the tests and quizzes he gives 20 terms to study and then he chooses five randomly and you only have to write about three of them. He is very strict about attendance, overall a good teacher, but you will have to work EXTREMELY hard for an A
He's a VERY knowledgable professor but is very picky at grading essays and quizzes. Hard grader but I like the class. He's enthusiastic and that helps make the class better. The class does get boring sometimes when he goes into a lot of detail about things but overall I would recommend that people take his class.
Professor Kennedy is the absolute man. He gives unguided lectures every class which can be difficult, but his extensive knowledge and easily accessible presentation style make up for this. His sense of humor is a little odd, but it's still funny and he's adorable. He takes his class very seriously which is refreshing. Tests are difficult.
My favorite professor so far! He is so knowledgeable, it's almost scary (that's a compliment)! Extremely clear about expectations and gives assignments many weeks in advance. Funny, too! Don't take him if you are not willing to come to every class and take DETAILED notes. Write fast or bring laptop. This is college, people!
We have two papers, 2 quizzes, a midterm and a final. There is no homework. He is a harsh grader on quizzes and test but papers can balance out your grade. Professor Kennedy is a talker. Quizzes are he gives you 20 terms, 6 of them will be on the quiz, but you only have to write about 3 of them.. pretty easy if you pay attention.
I do not like him very much. He is tough grader and the lectures are a little bit boring. You have 2 quiz, 2 tests and 2 papers. He expect from you to know 20 terms, which is crazy and then on you exam you will have only 6 of them and you have to write about 3 lol.
I like him and I think his lectures are very good! He explanes perfectly... you just need to go to clas, take notes and you will be fine
Kennedy was a great professor. He was clear about all deadlines and assignment dates. There are only 2 quizzes, a midterm and a final. He sends out study guides for every one. You had to attend class. His lectures aren't on BB but hes helpful and will always respond quickly to questions. The lecture can be tedious is you don't like history.
There are not many opportunities to get an A. Maybe if there was more quizzes or something to that effect. If you want an A, study hard and make sure you do the papers right the first time.
There are 2 test, 2 quizzes, 2 Essays, and Finals--Every single assignment is written. For the essays as long as you correctly cite everything in Chicago Style you should get at least get an 80. For tests and quizzes he chips away at your grade for every bullet point you miss from the notes. If you're love to study you'll be fine. If not well...
Do not take this man's class. He grades harsh as hell for a 100 level class. For quizzes you'll have to cram 20 terms into your head only to do 3. He is very knowledgeable I'll give him that but he is BORING!
Professor Kennedy is very smart. He outlines his lectures but you have to write everything he says down the whole class. You don't need a textbook, but it helps when studying. He will give a study guide for the final if you don't miss class. Work on the document analysis papers before the night before. He likes specific details and good questions.
Mr. Kennedy is a very knowledgeable professor, but he is a EXTREMELY boring lecturer. He tries to make it interesting but fails. He also grades harsh for an introductory class. I never got above an 85 in the class and I love history. There are two short quizzes, two 3 page papers, a midterm, and final exam, which isn't cumulative. I'd stay away.
If you are a balanced, visual, or kinesthetic learner, stay far away. If you are an auditory learner, you'll probably be fine. He assigns readings from the books, but never references them and the tests are based only on his lectures which are mindnumbingly boring and I'm a history major. People like this guy are why so many people dislike history.
Kennedy is the best history teacher I have had. He is very clear and knowledgeable in the material. His quizzes are easy if you pay attention in class and study for them. People that dislike him are just people that aren't willing to sit and take notes in his class, guarantee those people lied about their final grade.
Professor Kennedy is very intelligent. He does not use powerpoint slides, everything that he says comes from his head, and he says it fast, so better have a good writing hand. I was taking minimum of 4 complete pages of notes every class. His assignments are not hard at all as long as you take great notes.
Gives lecture note as in no powerpoint, just an outline of topics he's going to talk about. Kind of a harsh grader especially on papers. Only 2 papers, 2 quizzes, a midterm, and final. Your highest quiz scores counts more than the other one and same goes for papers. Overall a pretty good professor!
He is a brilliant and intelligent teacher ; he doesn't use presentations, he memorizes everything and tells you everything you need to know if your a good notetaker and auditory learner are hes fantastic. He is also an extensive teacher, and if you have questions, he will answer them thoroughly and in depth.
Clearly loves what he does, but hes not an interesting speaker and moves very quickly. I am very intelligent and tried very hard in this class, and I feel I was not rewarded for my efforts. He did not like me for some reason (and discouraged my in-class questions), and I got the strong sense that it affected his grading of my assignments.
HE IS AWFUL!!!! A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. He gets upset when you ask him questions. does not explain things well so you need to ask a lot of questions. He expects a paper to be enough explanation. Lectures. He only does lectures. which is fine write except he is extremely unorganized and talks to you as you have been studying the topic for 20 years.
Professor Kennedy is very passionate about what he does but he is a little bit traditional. It's an easy A if you do what you are supposed to do such as coming to class and taking notes. He also gives study guides and offers to look over your paper before you turn it in.
This class is straight lecture, literally talks for an hour straight. Posts a lecture outline and then talks, no visuals. Kind of a harsh grader especially on papers, you would think its English class. Only 3 papers, 2 quizzes, a midterm, and final. Will mark down a point for absences. Doesn't talk about the papers at all and isn't approachable.
Hated this class. As someone else said, he is strictly lecture and test heavy. He only talks for an hour straight and then proceeds to basically give you a test every couple of weeks. He's very detail oriented in terms of like how many people died in wars and stuff. He looks for very specific answers and if it isn't that, it's wrong. No matter what
passionate about history and seriously knows his stuff, but a very lecture heavy class. but he reminds of that DAY ONE. there are few grades where he grades fairly average, he doesn't seem to be super harsh when grading but also not super lenient with it either(relies on content/info not structure).Overall, i liked it he answered all my questions.
Professor Kennedy is an individual who is extremely knowledgable about the subjects he teaches and goes into great detail. The class is lecture heavy as others have stated, just follow the outline he posts and you'll do fine. People who have done bad in this class either do not have any work ethic or just skip class (YOU WONT PASS IF YOU SKIP)
He was ok at first but it got bad. His grading is weird. I didnt turn in 1 document assignment(100% on me)and he put a 0 in.I checked my grade it dropped 2 LETTER GRADES. Me:that assignment was only 10%. He put it in TWICE. One a high score. The other was a low score. The high score was 18%. So if you do the math, I had 2 0s and my grade dropped 28%
He is lecture heavy as stated by others, and the tests and papers are graded thoroughly. As long as you show up, follow outlines, and take notes you will be fine!
He is a nice guy but a VERY tough grader, but I recommend quizlets based of his study guides and GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!! He makes an outline for the class, but he kind of just talks the whole time, so listen, record, and write/type FAST. Also, for essay send them to him before you turn it in for critiques, this helps sooo much with your grade.
As he states in his review, he is very lecture-heavy, Luckily he let me record the lectures so I could go back and listen, but beware, because if you miss one class then it is near impossible to catch up. There are 4 papers, and 4 tests which include a mid-term and a final. Be careful because all of his tests were short answers.
Professor Kennedy's class isn't too bad a long as you pay attention and take notes in his class. There aren't many assignments so your grade is dependent on attendance, tests, quizzes, and papers. He did have one extra credit opportunity at the end of the semester. Lectures can be boring but he knows his information very well.
I respect Professor Kennedy as he truly knows his material. However, the class is very lecture heavy and there are no notes online, so if you miss even one day of class you will fall behind. He grades very harshly on tests, exams, papers. On papers he can comment some not very nice things about your writing instead of giving constructive criticism.
The class is very lecture heavy and there are no notes online, so if you miss even one day of class you will fall behind. If you are a visual learner like me, this class is not for you. There are no visuals, just him talking. He grades very harshly on tests, exams, papers. Speaks insanely fast so if you're not focused you get lost easily.
I'm going to be honest, if you miss one class, you're basically hit. He does not post PowerPoint and any material you need he only shows it during class. You basically have to write down everything he says because that's how he does notes. The quizzes and test are kinda hard and he is a very tough grader.
Try you best to take notes.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
this man is the most insufferable induvial i have had the pleasure of meeting. if you would like to hate your free elective slot please take this class. he expects you to possess as much knowledge as him after he talks for 60 minutes and grades with zero leniency.
if it's your gen ed and you are trying to ease up. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE, please please please. do yourself a favor. (but if you are a history major, then go for it)
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, the worst proffessor
Kennedy is a smart professor, but his class is very hard. EXTREMELY hard to get consistent good grades. On the few things he assigns, he expects you to do very well. However, he is easily accessible via email. He would email me feedback on my draft papers and the feedback was thorough and helpful. Locking in is bare minimum for passing, good luck!
Look it definitely was not easy but it wasn't that hard. If you actually study and do the work then its easy. Theres no busy work which I love. STUDY THE STUDY GUIDES! I would answer everything on the study guide and study it constantly and i easily got A and B on tests. If you don't study in this class you will fail 100%.
Smart nice man but VERY tough. Very very hard to pass his class. Even the “smartest” kid in the class who would always participate the most, never got an A on a paper. He expects EXACT answers on quizzes/papers. If you don't follow his expectations to a T, you're not passing. If you hate your life and can afford a bad grade, go ahead.
The exams themselves are a little tough to nail, but if you take relatively good notes and study, you can get a B or better. He also provides good feedback on what you needed to include, but overall be sure to STUDY! Also, take good notes; handwriting them helped me.
Don't take any class with him. He reads off an outline so you pretty much have to write down every word he says. You get 3 skips but don't use them bc you will fall far behind. Also if you take him Tuesday/Thursday your final is on a Saturday. I'm an A student and almost failed, just pick another class I promise there's one available.
Don't take this professor if you need a course that isn't lecture heavy. Not lenient with grading, you will need know EVERYTHING for his tests. He may review your papers if you ask him, though during office hours it felt I was talked down to. Don't bother asking for notes, everything is spoken in class although resources are available (outlines).
