Excellent Teacher. Very helpful with great sense of humor.
Wish I had him in grade school because I would have actually liked math! Excellent instructor and knows his stuff.
great teacher....You will actually learn somthing in his class...
He's challenging but fair. He's a top notch guy and a top notch teacher.
When I took this class, it was Komas' first time teaching this course, so he didn't do a very good job on it. Gives pop quizzes and collects homework at random times. Exams were fair if u do the hw and listen in class. Final was long.
Very fair and very down to earth. You get the grade you deserve. Great guy and relates things very well. Takes time to explain probles/solutions.
Trig was hard for me, but Komas made every effort to help me understand what the heck was going on. It's too bad I had to drop the class. He was great.
i ended up dropping precal.. i didnt know what the heck he was teaching. and his grading scale is whack! so think twice about taking this teacher.. but he is fair when it comes to grading.. but im telling u. its hard to pass this class because of his grading scale. 74% and below is already a "D".
Mr. Komas is a great teacher, he takes time to explain what he is teaching and the weekley quizess help you understand the work alot better! He is funny and just an all around nice guy. i definetlly recomend him for incoming freshman who have a hard time in math.
he is very hard, gives non stop quizzes and his grading scale is impossible, 74% is a D, good side is: he is helpful and wants u to do good. i ended up dropping his class tho, he's a good teacher to take if u really want to learn, if u take him, GOOD LUCK!!
Komas is an extremely helpful instructor. I love the weekly quizes and exams. They showed me were I stood and helped me take care of the problem before I fell behind. Take his class if you really need to learn math. You'll definately learn something.
ROB IS AWESOME...HE IS THE BEST MATH TEACHER BY FAR. HE IS PASSIONATE IN MATH. YOU WILL DEFINATELY HAVE A LOT OF FUN (DEPENDING ON HIS MOOD). IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH POLITICALLY CORRECTEDNESS, YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO TAKE HIM BECAUSE HE WILL CRACK JOKES ALL DAY. COOL GUY. still friends!
FOR MATH 811 TAKE HIS CLASS U END UP HAVING MORE TEST AND KOMAS WILL NEVER TELL U WHAT WILL BE ON THE TEST HIS OFFICE IS IN BUILDING 17 U CAN FIND HIM WITH GARY CHURCH OFFICE THE SAME OFFICE HE IS THERE IN THE OFFICE AT ALL TIMES
FOR ROBERT KOMAS DONT EVEN BOTHER TAKEN HIS CLASS FOR THE SUMMER OR THE FALL SEMESTER OF 2005 HE IS GONNA EXPECT YOUR HOMEWORK EVERYDAY AND GIVE U A VERY CRAZY TEST AND WILL NOT TELL YOU WHAT WILL BE ON THE TEST SO I GO FOR ANOTHER PROFESSOR NATALIA OR JOHNTHAN HOFELD
He is a good teacher but always pushes his students hard.If you cant maintain %75 he forces you to drop the class.End of the semester there were only 12 students in the class.By the way, he swears too.
ROBERT KOMAS I DONT THINK SO FOR THE FALL SEMESTER I YOU WANTED TO TAKE HIS CLASS GOAHEAD SOMETIME HE CAN BE VERY MEAN AND VERY SERIOUS NOT VERY EASY PROFESSOR IF YOU WANT TO TAKE DIFFERENT PROFESSER ADD GARRY OR JOHNTHAN HOLFELD OR NATALIA GARVYSHOVA ALL 3 GREAT PROFESSOR EXCEPT FOR ROBERT KOMAS AWARE NOT TO TAKE HIS CLASS ANY MORE BE AWARE NOW
Rob is an excellent instructor who is passionate about math and teaching. He's willing to answer any question and slow down if you don't get something. Most importantly he is very approachable. There is no midterm, quizes every week, and a final. Quizes and Final are easy if you study and do the homework which is turned in every couple of days.
He started on Ch3 and passed by information that much of the class didnt know. he told us that we needed to learn it our selves and that it was our fault we were behind
Math 120 he was great! When you reach higher classes like Math 222 he teaches in a completly different style. Having been taught with over half the math faculty, Mr. Komas teaches more abstractly. He is a good teacher, but you must think outside the box. Funny guy, no tolerance for slackers, but you will learn different approaches. Overall, good cl
Tough teacher, doesnt know to motivate students.Unstable.
great math teacher, but do your work. he expects at least an effort. he gets pissed if you don't try. All he cares is that you give an effort. if you screw up, that's where you learn (to him). he's there to help. i can see how he rubs people the wrong way
this guy is really a great teacher. i had him like a year and a half ago and i still go to him when i need some help. its true all he wants is an effort but he will get pissed if you dont do the work and miss class.
for all of you that are hateing on Komas you are probably the people that dont do you work. Komas is one of the best math teachers i have ever had and hope that everyone takes at least one class with him. Though if you dont like to do your homework than t
Really good teacher~explains the material very throughly--however, if he is in a bad mood he will take it out on the class... be on time and do not get on his bad list!
he cusses, yells, & tells weird jokes. but all in all, he's a great teacher. he's got an exuberant personality, although he is tough on slackers. don't get up in his class if you wanna slide by... he'll slide you out the class if you don't watch out. i think that he's one of the best math teachers. not contemporary & boring at all, but gotta study!
Pretty cool, very rarely do I find a teacher that's ti89 friendly.

You know you are better off just not taking this class. Only a couple people get A's because he grades so harshly. Mr. Komas admitted to us that taking his class will hurt your GPA. Yes you learn the math but it's not worth the stress. He throws violent tantrums if people don't "show respect" in class. Tests are not overly hard but lots of homework
very very emotional, even about tiny little stuff. hes not bad, but also not great neither.
If you fail this class it's your own fault, Rob is great and the own Professor who's ever been able to teach me math. He's funny, he's hard- but do what he asks and expect alot of yourself the way he does and you will succeed.
He knows what he is doing, and only wants students who are willing to work hard.
Professor Komas is one of those teachers that one can rarely find anywhere, as they either stopped teaching or have been beaten down by the current system. He cares about math; and more importantly, he cares about the bettering of the students' lives. Keep up on the work and you'll do fine. He is always willing to help in office hours.
excellent teacher!! he is very expressive with his emotions, but is very friendly, warm hearted person. so dont be afraid if he gets mad sometimes! if you are eager to learn in his class, you will enjoy his class very much!
Mr.Komas is nice -BUT- he is picky on homework assignments and requires you to do extra steps. If you struggle with math this class is not for you. Bottom line is that your scores on tests and homework will be your final grade. He does not grade on a curve. If math is easy for you then you will be fine.
I didnt think I was a "math person" until i took Rob's class. He is great teacher, the best I've ever had. He explains things wonderfully. If you keep up with the class you will learn a great deal. He can be kinda hard-nosed but he earns your respect. He works hard for you and he expects you 2 do the same 4 him. Basically, he is an amazing person.
he is a very teacher but he should more textbook.
Inspirational and truly awesome!!
amazing teacher, i hated math until i took this class.
This teacher is your worse nigthmareI would never ever take his class again. If you look up jerk, his picture will be right next to it in the dictionary. He swears at his students and is just a mess. The only people he liekd were those who got 100% on his tests and who kissed his ass. If your late he will ignore you and treat you like an animal.
If you really want to LEARN math take this class. If you think you can't do math take this class. I was lost in math until I took Komas. YES he wants you to show up,be on time, do your homework, and participate in class. If you are willing to do those things he will be one of the best teachers you have ever had,if not don't waste your time or his!
Took his class a decade ago and still remember him fondly. One of the few teachers who really care that you learn. After graduating from UC, I still believe he's more thorough than any upper division professors I've had. Yes, you need to be present and do the work! Yes, he's human and cares about you if you're a serious student. Don't slack off!!!
I also took his class a decade ago, which was a complete waste of time. He is hard on you and has you do a load of work with a bunch of useless extra steps. If you think Math already sucks enough, take someone else.
Personally, he's ok. But, in teaching, he don't teach a lot in Maths. Just give you one example for each technique. He let you do a lot work yourself. Don't teach you that much. Just guiding you. If you have a strong Math background, you be ok. This is the only Math class that require writing an essay and do two or three projects I ever had. Think!
I really, really like Mr. Komas. He is very strict and tough but that's what makes him a good teacher. He makes you really work for your grade. I took him for Math 111 & Math 112. Highly recommende!
he is hard at times with the grading but fair and honest and always gives his best
I loathe math, and now it is pretty cool! thanks rob! awesome teacher take him if you can. he goes out of his way for his students and truly cares about his students.
His class is very entertaining and useful. But it does take a lot of effort and is time consuming, and he can be picky on tests. Overall, it's a good experience.
He was a very helpfull teacher the first teacher that actually helped me understand math, i suck at math and thanks to him i don't hate it as mutch anymore! i will be taking him again. he is a real teachr not like others that just give lectures for the checks.
He's amazing. The FIRST day of class, he said, "I'm here to help you succeed. I'm here to hold your hand when you're feeling down." and he wasn't being facetious. I went to talk to him during office hours and broke down crying, and he was there for me. Not only that, but he's a fabulous teacher. He's really good at explaining things. I recommend!!!
I was worried when it came time to take a math class to satisfy my degree requirements. Thanks to Mr. Komas, I have gone from a zero to hero in algebra. He is very helpful in class and is available for office hours. Homework and attendance is a must, but after a week in his class you wont want to miss. He makes math fun, REALLY!
Robert is my favorite professor up to now!!! He is very helpful, humor teacher! You can never feel bored when taking his class. He always can explain everything clearly to all of us, and he is always be ready to help you to solve questions and guide you. I really love his class, and appreciate for all his work! God bless you! My dear teacher!^*^~~
Robert is my favorite professor up to now. He always can teach us in a good way, which is making complicated questions become easy, and he is very humor... I really enjoyed his class last semester... U can never feel bored in his class!!! I'm so appreciate for all the help that he gave to me! God bless you, my dear teacher!
He's one of the best math teachers ive taken ever. He's defnately not like other teachers teaching out of the book all the time. he really strives to help you pass. He may be a jerk sometimes but its what makes the class intresting and it somewhat helps push you to pass
Rob is amazing. I graduated from a UC and can honestly say he was more attentive to my needs than any UC professor. It is true he is tough on slackers so only take his class if you really want to learn. Maybe I had a different experience due to the more advanced class, but can genuinely say he is motivational and inspiring. Great teacher!
Helpful true; however his methods are unique, which can be good or bad depending upon one's own style. He values effort above all - homework is major for him, and he grades it. This is odd for a math teacher. Also, homework is 20% of your grade. If you're a math wiz who doesn't need to put in so so much for hw, I'd recommend someone else.
Very helpful, makes me actually like math, a subject I thought I hated.
Hands down best professor I have ever had. This class changed my view on learning now I actually look forward to going to my class.I have never been so moved by a teacher. He teachers hard material but makes it very manageable because he tells you exactly what he wants no BS.He actually cares about his students and the material.Highly RECOMMENDED
BEST teacher ever, if you dont like math, you will end up loving math after taking his class.
I'm not a fan of math but I enjoyed his class very much. He is helpful and always there to help you if you do not understand something. He is always free during office hours, He is the best math teacher you could ask for
He is really good teacher. Work hard, helpful, responsible, and fun.You wont feel bore in his class and you can get a good grade if you finish his stuff.I want to take his class again!!!
Best math teacher ever! I agree with what most other students have said; rob values quality learning, and he expects students to make an effort. The effort, however, was rather minimal- he says "hard work" a lot but he is the only one that really works hard, most of the time he gives one week for each homework. if you don't do it, you earn a 0
Best teacher I ever had! Funny as hell, understanding, and I never understood math until I had him as a teacher. Awesome teacher and wonderful human being! Definately recommend, although not for the lazy.
Math is difficult for some people, and Rob is the only math professor I have ever had that took the time to made sure I was understanding the material. This was not an easy class, and a lot of work, but Rob was there to assist the entire semester.
If you put in the time, he'll put in the time. He's incredibly fair and a extreme smart ass. He makes the class fun, inviting and mandatory (or he'll kill you...joke...lol). If I would recommend any teacher, it's this one. He makes math, not a subject of repetition, but a lesson of a world called mathematics.A language that everyone should speak!=)
GREAT teacher for math. MATH252+ isn't going to be easy, so theres no way you can base math teachers off "easiness"..Actually teaches and really likes to help. I wish he taught 252.
Rob is a caring & great teacher. He's funny too! He wants his students to do well. Do the work & you'll be fine. He's always willing to help if needed! Attendance is a must (he takes role) but is understanding if you can't make it as long as you email ahead of time. Most tests were 4-8 questions long. If you're a slacker, don't take his class.
Funny teacher! Really helped me get through understanding math ! Hes super funny too!
Excellent teacher, he guided me through understanding math thoroughly and becoming a better person through hard work. He didn't push hard, or ever nitpicked, he focuses on the larger image, that is, on what really matters. Greatest professor CSM has ever known!
Rob is AWESOME! His goal is for students to immerse themselves in the material. There were several projects and a weekly quiz. Lots of group quizes/discussions. This was the most interesting math class I have ever taken! His office hours are packed with students and he is extremely helpful via email as well.
He has high expectations for his students. definitely caters to students that already know content. if you go in for help he gives you hints but not enough to really understand from the small amount of notes he gives. weekly quizzes no exams except final. can be a nice guy but not the best teacher for this class.
Rob is by far one the best math teacher i have ever taken in my whole educational paths! He is very different than ordinary teachers. Go to his office hours! HELPFUL to the max... lets you use your calculators. ALL IN ALL ROBBIE LOL is the best and you should take him. DONT GET HIM PISSED... you dont want to see him pissed scariest thing ever
KOMAS IS AN EXCELLENT MATH 120 PROFESSOR!!! HE THOROUGHLY EXPLAINS AND SPENDS A LOT OF TIME ON EACH TOPIC. HIS CLASS IS VERY FUN AND HE BRINGS A NEW AND IMPROVED APPROACH TO INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Rob was the best math teacher I have ever taken. The class I took was 2 and a half hours twice a week. But this time seemed to fly by because he entertains the class so well. the first couple weeks had so many people in it that i brought my bean bag chair to sit on the floor. Rob gave me the Indian name "Sits With Beans" and it has stuck ever since
He is a over idealized teacher. He ignored the fact that this is a community college, not an four-year university. Taking his class is so time consuming, and it's so hard to get A. As a community college math class, it doesn't worth the time and effort. You need to do two 12 page papers. So many things unexplained in class.
Amazing teacher! He really cares about his students BUT you need to earn his respect by working hard and proving you want to be there. Grades hard but intends on having you learn from your mistakes. DO NOT TAKE HIM if you are not prepared to put in the time and effort or he will kick you! Not a plug and chug formula class, be prepared to learn!
i had taken his math 110 class and now iin his math 120 class i learned a lot from him he pushes you to learn allot some times he might be a hardass but hes a great instructer and would recommend him
Rob is awesome, flat out. His office hours are always crammed and he'll do group sessions on the whiteboard, essentially teaching another class. He will go the extra mile to help you if you're struggling and encourages class participation to peer-tutor. Explains things in terms everyone can understand, with a sense of humor. Entertaining class.
If he and Chuck Norris squared off, I honestly don't know who would come out alive. Very clear, very helpful. Won't like you if you don't try. If you are lazy, do not take his class, he will literally kick you out if you are not serious. Overall, he is good but a little too crazy.
Favorite teacher I've ever had. Rob is extremely funny and truly cares about his students' LEARNING more than anything else. If you go in to office hours and he sees you are eager to learn the material, he will no doubt become a fan of you. Definitely an interesting and hilarious guy. Class is not for slackers! Do the homework and "check or DIE!"
All i can say is that if he teaches all the maths i would totally register to his class. He's very helpful!!! The subject itself can be difficult. Rob is there to ease your worries and actually appreciate math and learning in general. I assure you, you wouldn't be schooled, but you will be educated. I love his class, i love his teaching style & him
this teacher can really show your intelligence in his class. he explains very well, also working in groups helps a lot. i recommend you should take his class. any math class! awesome class! a bit stricted but cool teacher! if your wanting too pass any math class your in the right place with the right teacher! wish he could teach all math classes!
I love Rob! He honestly cares about his students' success. He expects his students to preform at a high caliber, so do you work when he assigns it, attend class and actually try. I can't say enough good things about him. I always thought I sucked at math but after taking his class I'm confident in my abilities. I highly recommend him.
I never really liked math during my mandatory schooling. It was only until attending Rob's class that I found out my true potential. Rob is a great teacher. He won't school his students, he'll EDUCATE them. If one doesn't know the difference then I suggest emailing him and asking. He's my favorite professor at CSM. Definitely take his classes!!!!!!
Good passionate teacher, but disrespects students. Doesn't have boundaries.
He is awesome! But don't worry if you feel lost the first few weeks
Professor Komas is amazing. I struggled in his class but it was SO worth it. He takes a much different approach to math than many other teachers and its amazing.
He is a great teacher, as long as you paid attention to the teachers and finish your homework clearly and careful. There should not be any challenges for you to get A
I go to another college now and forgot to give this guy a review. It's been some time since I took the class (Fall 2013) but I remember it well. Do the homework, go to his office hours to get help, and you will pass. He'll make sure you understand. He admires hard work. I went to his office hours a lot, did good, and was excused from the final.
This class emphasizes nothing on research. It spends almost 8 weeks just to prepare for the final honor showcase. Helpless at all. No atmosphere of doing research.
He is one of the rudest professors I have ever had. He has thrown papers at me and cussed at me as well. I am an A student, but once you get on his bad side.. There is no turning back. I would never recommend him. EVER!
One of the best teachers you will have if you are willing to put in the work. Is fun and down to earth, a good lecturer, but doesn't take any crap. If you showed up to class and try (which you should be doing anyways), you can succeed. Getting an A is very doable if you put the work in. He's a little scary first day, but is actually really nice
I took this professor back in 2010. I am so bad at math, but this professor made it easy to understand the material. I loved his class and I would totally recommended to anyone. Great professor and lectures.
It was the first time he teach in Discrete Math. I don't know how he teaches in other Math classes, but for this class, he doesn't teach almost at all. He just asks the student who to teach instead of him, but that student only know himself and cannot teach to others. The textbook he uses is different and more difficult with other professors'.
Rob is a fantastic professor for the right kind of student. To succeed, you need to commit fully and appreciate the beauty of mathematics intuitively. This is not a good class if you learn by rote memorization. His focus is on education, not schooling. He's funny, passionate, and a great professor to know at CSM. Can't wait to take 275 with him.
Rob Komas is my favorite math professor. He LOVES math and he hates the way math is typically taught nowadays. So be prepared to learn math in a completely new and amazing way. Commitment is VERY important to him, so don't miss class and don't miss homework. He lets you view your grade throughout the semester. Hard work will get you a good grade.
Rob's a great dude and very clear right off the bat what he expects from you. Don't slack off or lie, cause then he will hate you. He expects respect and he will give it back to you. There is almost nightly homework which you MUST do, but tests are pretty straight forward, you know what to expect. Never skip class without letting him know
He is the best professor at CSM. Not any easy A, but you can earn it if you do homework and go to office hour. He is really helpful and cool. You will write several papers if you take math275 with him, but you can ask him to revise ahead of deadline. It's not about solving hard problems in his class. It's real education.
I took him for a few classes several years ago. If he has a fault, it's that he cares too much. His is the class where you feel guilty not putting in 100% effort. One piece of advice I can give: start the homework as SOON as he assigns it; if you do the ez stuff and come in with questions you'll do great. Good calc1 prof, I'd take Walker for DE tho
I was always really bad at math until I took professor Komas. He is very picky on homework assignments but he definitely cares about his students and does his best to help.
So many more tags I want to add. Caring? 1000%. Amazing lectures? Absolutely and highly entertaining. Accessible outside of class? Put it this way, about 3/4 of the class hung out at his office during office hours to practice more, and this was daily. Nobody minded and it wasnt mandatory but he made it worthwhile. Hands down one of the best.
Really got to show the effort, quizzes every week but gives great feedback. Tough grader but very smart professor. Great class overall but really really have to work hard
Rob is one of the best math professor that I have ever had! He's really restricted and tough with his class, however; he is also committed to help those who show interest to learn and be successful in college. I used to hate math before but now I actually like it because of Rob. If you want to actually learn math I totally recommend his class!
Take Komas Don't even think about anything! He is the best be Prof. in the CSM! because of his strategy in teaching math. It's all about his syllabus. he is available through email and office hours he works as much as you work! He is amazing! He should be paid doubled because he works double! Glad to be his student!
Really tough grader, but once you get used to his pickieness it makes your work so much neater and easier to read. He takes your learning personally, try not to offend him by not showing effort because your grade will suffer. Expect daily (or more sometimes) quizzes, although some will be group or class quizzes. Pop quizzes happen sometimes as well
Professor Komas is in my opinion, the best math professor ever! Coming from someone who has sucked at math my entire life, I can honestly say that I learned a lot and am better at math now than I ever was. Make sure you always show up to class and do your homework or else you will be on his bad side! TRUST!
Aside from he fact that hes an amazing teacher and really cares about you learning this guy is an amazing dude. You can tell he truly cares about his students and only gets mad when they fail themselves. Take him for any class you can! He will make sure you understand material and do well!
One of the best professors I've taken at community college. Komas genuinely cares about your learning and will only look down on you if you're not putting in work. He's extremely communicative through email (he often replies to all emails within a day) and open office hours. For MATH275, expect weekly quizzes and a few papers to write.
He is by far the best math professor I have ever had! He truly cares about his students' learning and inspires you to work hard to understand the material. If you hate math, he will help you find the beauty in it. He is truly one of a kind. I highly recommend him.
He doesn't even teach the material. No theory, reasons, etc. He shows a couple simple examples on how to do complicated calculus problems, and then expects everyone to do all the assigned hw problems from the book. Get's upset when people do poorly on quizzes, but barely teaches material. I'm learning way more from Youtube lectures than his.
the best professor i ever have in math subject, he is top but he also is very supportive, he always be there for clear your debts and providing the answer to you questions i like his way to teaches very clear and a lot of quizzes that i believed helps a lot to students understand their weaknesses and improving in the semester. 100% good !
POOR LECTURES. UNCLEAR GRADING GUIDELINES.
Ive had him before and thought he was great, this semester was awful. He didnt teach us at all and gets mad when 1/2 the class fails his DAILY quizzes. This class messed up my transfer and he told me I wasnt trying hard enough. Be glad you avoided this class.
Disagree with other people, in the Calc II class now, not doing too hot and my transfer may fall through because of it, but Komas is helpful and willing to work with you if you show effort. Tough grader and expects a lot from you but very respectful person. If you care he does too.
Greatest teacher Ive ever had. Woe all ye math students that need 120 post-fall 2018.
