He's so awesome. He really puts himself out there for the students, as opposed to Dr. Sweeder.
he's the biggest chemistry geek, but he tells the awesomest lame chem jokes!
Laduca is a huge geek, but really nice and v. funny, even if his jokes are all dorky like him.
good teacher...hard class
Awesome
Enthusiastic! Best chem teacher for Briggs!
Lectures were not even on topic or pretaining to the notes
VERY FUNNY, GREAT TEACHER, ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP
Laduca is very entertaining.
He was funny and witty but his lectures covered nothing outlined in the notes or anything that was presented on the tests.
Hes a really cool and funny guy. He teaches the material well. I 4.0 the class with his notes. He goes over the exams before a lot. Any negativity towards him is probably due to the course. OVERALL chemistry is a VERY hard course. But I think he did a great job while keeping my interest.
Laduca is the man.
Exams are really difficult but his lectures are entertaining and he is funny. Takes the time to ask if there are any questions. Chemistry in general is just a difficult subject to tackle.
FUN! interesting and hilarious :)
Laduca is the best chemistry professor by far. He cracks hilarious jokes while teaching the information. Class was tough, i struggled initially, however, was able to pull my grade up over the course of the semester thanks to Laduca, Hes da TITS!!!
He really is the man. Very funny. He wasn't even my professor but I attended his class anyway. Kept me awake and I payed attention. Exams are not easy but doable. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. BUY the past year exams book and work on those until you drop (unless you're awesome at AP CHEM, not regular chem). After working on those you will be good.
So hilarious! However, he moves pretty fast but if you ask a question he will answer it on the spot. If you really don't understand, go to office hours and ask TA at recitation. He will try to stump you but that's a good professor.
Absolutely hilarious! Says what he wants and does not care. However, he moves quickly across subjects when reviewing but will answer a question right on the spot. If you really don't understand go to his office hours or ask TA at recitation. Loves what he does and will help whenever.
awesome prof. best i ever had
Funny guy, really smart and explains things very well but the class still takes a lot of work to do well in.
LaDuca is hilarious and always attentive to students' needs. He is always willing and available to help. Hard course but he tried to make it easier.
Teaches a good lecture but nothing prepares for the exams they are killer expect and prepare for everything!
He is really good at keeping you awake during lectures, good sense of humor and gives many example problems during class. Throws a lot of curve balls on tests though.
Great teacher but very difficult class. Don't buy book, only need the lecture notes.
LaDuca is a great professor and a funny guy. Class is hard but if you go to class, pay attention, and use the materials he supplies for you then you will do well
He is a really great professor, if you like "memes" then you will like his style of teaching. A little goofy, but overall funny and knows his stuff.
Laduca is the man, CEM 141 is a tough class though.
LaDuca is amazing! I got a 3.5 in the class and I owe a lot of that to him. He understands the material well, but teaches it even better! You won't be disappointed with him! I promise! He truly cares--wants to help you and is by far one of the funniest men I've met. For sure my favorite professor at Michigan State yet.
Dr. LaDuca is totally relatable. He is by far my favorite professor at MSU, even though I've only been here for a semester.
He was fantastic, inspirational. Made me enjoy chemistry, rather thand read it. No, you can't scoot by just by showing up, you do have to work. But he helps every step of the way!
LaDuca is such a great prof; hes a genius when it comes to chem but he really knows how to bring it down to a level where students can understand. He's hilarious and loves to meme EVERYTHING. It's a tough course but it's college. Take the course with him if you can or regret missing his daily jokes and friday fails!
He is hands down the best prof I've had so far at MSU. In general, LB 172 is a hard class but he is definitely the best prof to teach it.
The meme king was truly phenomenal. He's incredibly intelligent; he makes his lectures engaging and interesting, as well as adding in hilarious memes and "Fail Fridays." This class is difficult, so if you attend class and work hard, you'll definitely pass.
Dr. Laduca is an amazing professor to have for chem in LB. He's hilarious and has made me love coming to class. Time in class flies by because he keeps students interested. Plus, he's very knowledgeable about Chemistry and helps you learn a lot.
Laduca is a good professor IF you can learn the way he teaches. His teaching style didn't work well for me and I really struggled to understand the material. I went to office hours once and he was absolutely no help what so ever, so I didn't go back. LA's are your best bet if you don't learn from his teaching.
Dr. LaDuca is the best prof I have had at MSU. He is super knowledgeable about chemistry, and he's also absolutely hilarious. He knows how to interest you in chemistry. The class is very difficult, so if you do the online homework and go to lecture and recitation regularly, you'll be fine. I would definitely take another class with Dr. LaDuca!
I love Dr. Laduca. I cannot stress enough how much I hated Chemistry before I took his class and while i'm in his class now, he has made it so fun and interesting and easy to understand. He is such a smart guy and really cares for his students. 10/10 recommend .
LaDuca prepares freshman for their futures in whatever field they choose to go into. He expects a lot, but if you focus in class and go to office hours, he is really down to earth and explains things well. Make sure you really understand concepts very well. I didn't do great on his tests b/c he designs them to be tough, but they are not impossible.
I loved taking Chem with LaDuca. His enthusiasm truly makes the complex subject more enjoyable to explore. He's a pretty funny guy and incorporates memes into his lectures. I love how willing he is to have students engage - he frequently asks iClicker questions to test your absorbed knowledge and thoroughly explains answers. He's willing to help!
Professor is great but the actual class is complete cancer.
Don't mess around on mastering chem because that is weighted the same as your tests because it is a point based system, Laduca's tests are harder than the other teachers but he is a better teacher and he makes class interesting.
Lectures move very quickly, be prepared to see something once and then be expected to know it for the exam. Dr. LaDuca is incredible knowledgeable, but I felt that he sometimes forgot concepts were not always as clear to the class as they maybe were in his mind. Likes to make a lot of jokes, you will see many chemistry memes in lecture.
This prof ruined my love for chemistry and my GPA. I did everything I was supposed to do- I did ALL the reading and then some, went to office hours frequently, and took so many notes during lecture, and still didn't get above a C on a single exam.
Laduca is a VERY funny prof and loves to make jokes during his lectures. Sometimes he can get carried away and it can be distracting from the material. But overall I love his class and he has made CEM 142 very fun! Class isn't too bad, if you study and pay attention in class a 4.0 is achievable! I would definitely take one of his classes again.
Laduca is the man. You wont regret taking him!
dont take tis class
worst teacher ever
Its hard to respect someone when they dont show respect towards you. Dr. L is very unapproachable, as he rushes through lectures as well as personal questions about the material-super uncomfortable. He also connects his lectures together very poorly, making his teaching confusing. Each lecture seems like he is throwing random information at us.
Its hard to respect someone when they dont show respect towards you. Dr. L has a huge ego. He rushes through lectures as well as personal questions about the material-super uncomfortable. He also connects his lectures together very poorly, making his teaching extremely confusing. Each lecture seems like he is throwing random information at us.
LaDuca is a Lyman Briggs teacher and this was his first time teaching regular CEM 251. He teaches material fast and doesn't explain things in detail. If you don't naturally excel at chemistry, be prepared to teach yourself a lot of the material. He has messed up teaching us a few concepts and had to have T.A.s correct him which was very concerning.
Dr. Laduca did a great job teaching this daunting class, especially for it being his first semester teaching CEM251. He keeps you engaged throughout the whole lecture and really tries to make sure everyone in the lecture understands the material. Although he made a few mistakes, he is super funny and engaging, highly recommend for any chem class.
Best professor. More changeling than other professors but really helps you learn the material. Go to class and do the practice exams and go to office hours!!!
Overall LaDuca is a nice guy who teaches a hard subject. His class and exams were ridiculously hard, harder than any of the other chemistry profs here and doesnt offer extra credit. Office hours were helpful. I worked really hard though and still 3 pointed (4 pointed all of my other classes). Constant studying for exams. take a different professor.
I think LaDuca is an excellent teacher. Hes not challenging if you understand how he teaches. I failed the first test because I did not study properly. This is the reason why people say hes difficult and a horrible teacher. You have to take excellent notes. I say notes > mock exams. They are key for a 4.0 in this class.
Dr. Laduca is the funniest professor Ive ever had while still being extremely effective at teaching the material. He is so helpful in his office hours, if youre struggling be sure to visit him 1 on 1. His class is quite easy to 4.0 if you study a little bit, Im not sure what others saying hes a tough teacher are talking about.
LaDuca is so passionate about teaching that it makes chemistry a little less grueling to learn. He's hilarious and tries to engage students as much as possible. He can rush through lectures at times, but he's always willing to clear anything up. STUDY HARD! Chem is tough and short answer Qs on exams suck, so really put the work in if you want an A.
He is very funny, don't get me wrong. He teaches an extremely challenging subject and I give him props for that, my issue is that the tests are way over students heads which occur almost ever week. He is easily accessible for office hours. The mastering chemistry sets can be quite challenging/ lengthy and knock grades down quite a bit.
Lenient grader
He teaches a hard and lengthy subject, its very clear right off the bat. He has some different policies than the other briggs profs which isnt great (such as making mastering chemistry mandatory or not being able to drop the final). He is definitely funny and it entertaining to listen to. Participate and engage in class and youll do fine.
He was a great professor. His can be a bit off the board but he is pretty funny and nice. You will have to work hard in his courses but he will guide you to success. One thing is that he can be a bit tough on grading but not too bad. Overall he was a great professor.
Dr. Laduca teaches a difficult college course to freshman that have for the most part yet to have a legit college course, I think this is why he gets so much scrutiny. He makes the classes fun and covers everything you need for tests and quizzes in lecture, in order to do good you must take notes and pay attention. His grading is very fair.
This class is difficult not because the material is hard but because you will see the other students with the other profs do so much better then you and have so much extra materials and help, as you struggle and fail the class. You actively have to look else were to learn materials because the resources given are by him are confusing and unhelpful
Hes more focused on being funny then actually teaching. He not even funny his jokes just make his class so unprofessional and just make students very uncomfortable. He is disorganized, unprofessional, and impossible to respect. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Its not even worth attending his lectures because they will just make you upset and confused.
My time in this class is a nightmare. Its impossible to succeed in this class with laduca as ur professor, you will constantly feel unprepared for ever test and you would believe going to class would help u be prepared but thats just not the case going to his class will just make u more confused and frustrated.
Laduca is awful! Its 2 weeks before our final for this class and we still don't know if its cumulative or anything. He never answers any question properly, so don't even bother going to him if u have a question. Being in the class with him as a professor is literally torture, if u get stuck with him drop the class ASAP!
The guy sucks! I feel like calling his Dr. Laduca is disrespectful to other professor that deserve that title. He never make any sense, and nothing is EVER clear. During your time in his class you will always be extremely confused and have no idea where to even look for answers. Yea just dont take this class with him as your prof
There is no way your getting a good grade in this class. This is the worst professor ever. Honestly if by terrible fate u get stuck with this guy dont go to his class its not worth it find someone taking the same class with one of the other professor ideally Dr. Cass and leach on them, thats the only way ur going to pass. THIS GUY SUCKS!
I have always been a good student, and have been able to manage very difficult classes, but let me tell you, this class is something else. I find it very hard to learn anything from the lectures, and have to end up teaching the material to myself after every class. Take another prof for chem.
If it's not his way, it's not right. Very unorganized lectures. Teaches the material as if we have been a part of his life long chemistry research. If you don't want to have mental breakdowns over a general chemistry class, don't take Laduca.
i'm a student from last year reading the last few reviews. I don't know why people say "you won't get a good grade" because last year 80% of the class got a 3.0 or higher in line with the other Briggs prof. He has high demands, though, and won't hold your hand and expects you to be an adult and keep track of due dates by yourself
Accused of plagiarism on a project where we were allowed to use helpful chemistry websites to aid us in finishing. I ran where he accused me of plagiarism for an answer and it was 100% original and 0% plagiarized. Throws cheating accusations at people without proof.
This class isn't necessarily easy but if you try and learn the content, you'll be fine.
Organic chemistry is a very difficult class, but this class definitely makes it more manageable. The professor is pretty good, and I have found the TA's to be very helpful. The exams are open note and you have plenty of time. Don't let this fool you, however. You can't simply look up answers; the class just doesn't work like that. Do your homework.
I found learning from Laduca really confusing and hard to concept what he was trying to get across to you. His lectures are hard to follow and his slides are very busy.
His lecture slides and mock quizzes are almost exactly the same kind of content you will see on the quizzes. Although he seems a bit disorganized, all of the material he provides helps prepare you for the quizzes. Great and funny professor.
Dr. LaDuca is a cool and funny guy. He's great at teaching the material. Although you better be a wiz at chem math because this man loves his chem math. Honestly I feel like sometimes he pulls chem math problems on the exams out of his ass. Super encouraging on if you need help, has office hours very frequently.
Hilarious professor and always kept lectures entertaining. Such a nice guy and his tests were very predictable every time, almost the exact same as his mock exams and 'optional' practice problems. Would take this class again if I could. Very understanding and very accessible outside of class for extra help.
10/10 recommend! He is a great professor who really cares about his students. His exams are very similar to his mock exams and optional practice problems. I would take again he was great.
The tests for this class were always super hard, but are made by the chem department not him. He tried to make lectures really engaging and funny and really cared about his students. My section did fall behind compared to other sections with the material. Hard class, good professor.
I would take any class he teaches! Amazing professor that goes above and beyond for his students. He always jokes during lectures and plays fail Friday videos to up our spirits. He is a great professor. I highly recommend everyone take him!
Great professor that makes class entertaining and really makes sure to hammer in the concepts so that the whole class can understand. If not, he recommends several resources from the chemistry department that are available for students. Although attendance is easy to skip, it's imperative to this course in order to really get the material down.
This class was difficult, and his exams were even harder. They were not like the mock exams or optional problems and the test questions were complicated because you had to figure out what the questions were asking before you figured out the answer to the question. The lectures aren't mandatory, but they are important to understand the concept.
I loved this class, Dr. LaDuca was very funny, incredibly flexible and caring, and also very helpful. 11/10 experience and my favorite quote was “thanks everyone for coming to class today I know it's colder than my ex wife out there” he was so real for that
Test are tough, and there is a group section to every exam that is tough if you don't have a good group. He keeps lecture light hearted and the material is learnable if you do the practice problems, which there are a LOT of.
He cares a lot. If you show up to every lecture you will do well, he does a lot of exam worthy questions in class. He is also extremely funny, easy to pay attention in his class because you do not know what he might say next.
Definitely not the easiest intro to chem class, I knew a lot of people who didn't get the grade they wanted or just didn't pass. Professor LaDuca explains everything that is on each exam in detail and in multiple different ways that makes it easy to understand. He is very accessible outside of class during his office hours or just if you email him.
Gives female students suspicious deference. Thinks he's the life of the party, not as serious as he should be.
Ignore all of the bad reviews they are all pure slander and written by lazy people who don't show up to class or don't put in any work to study for the exams. Dr. Laduca is one of the most reasonable and caring professors I have had in my first year at MSU. He regularly hosts office hours, and wants his students to succeed. He is a funny guy too.
Dr. LaDuca is a very kind proff. Definitely take him for chem 1 and 2. He prepares you well by incorporating real world situations into his lectures. As long as you go and put in effort you will do well in this class. He always holds office hours and if you ever have any issues just communicate with him.
He is very caring towards his students and genuinely wants you to succeed. He offers lots of office hours and his exams are very reasonable. He posts mock exams on exam week and they are very similar to the actual exams so as long as you do those, I promise you'll be fine. Expectations are clear, if you do whats expected and go to class you'll 4.0
He is a very good teacher that posts a lot of mock exam and exam worthy questions throughout the course. He also likes to crack a few jokes and is always open during office hours if you need any additional help.
Dr. Laduca is a great professor. He provides lots of practice problems for his exams & posts the answer keys in a timely manner. His exams are difficult but he offers retakes & a 11"x8.5" front-back cheatsheet for each exam. By attending lectures, recitation, asking questions, & completing practice problems, I was able to succeed in the class.
LaDuca's lectures were very info-heavy and sometimes he would move through important topics very fast. He did provide extra practice problems if he felt that the class needed it based on in-class iClicker questions. He allows a cheat sheet on exams which was very helpful, and for group exams you can talk with other groups and compare before turn-in
There is a pre class for every class and they are extremely large. The lectures move extremely fast and are too much to comprehend. He contradicts himself every now and then, and his tests are not curved and VERY hard.
Dr. LaDuca is one of the best teachers I've had. He's cares deeply about student success, and I learned an incredible amount of chemistry during his hilarious (and sometimes unhinged) lectures. He gives students the tools needed for success, but beware - you're gonna have to work hard to do really well. Not a cakewalk by any means.
Dr. Laduca is very kind and he wants everyone to get a 4.0 so he gives many extra credit opportunities!
Dr. Laduca really wants everyone to do well, he is extremely lenient with grading. His exams have questions from the mock exams and practice sets he posts (with answers). A lot of assignments are optional, but I recommend doing them all because it really will make a difference in your grade. Overall super caring and accessible outside of class!
Show up to lecture and secure an A. All exam content is covered through practice problems/mock exams which are just questions derived from previous exams. Easygoing, nice to talk to, and not very difficult at all to pass this class with a 4.0
He's an interesting person, very fun to talk to. GO TO OFFICE HOURS, he is much more accessible during them than during class. I honestly didn't love the way he taught, but I learned fine from it. Put everything from the practice exam on your cheat sheet!
