Hardest tests ever! So boring and way too smart. Avoid him
HARDEST gen ed class I have even taken. His lectures are very hard to follow
he test are hard and don't make any sense worst teacher ever
He thinks is beliefs are the laws of nature. He lives outside of OUR world.
tests are challenging, but doabel with hard work and studying not an awful guy

VERY hard tests, VERY boring lectures, too much reading
Impossible Tests, Very Rude...this is the truth!
Not worth your time. Extremely Rude, worst possible teacher!!!
Most unhelpful and annoying teacher I've ever met, won't help you.
Incredibly boring, notes the entire class, EVERY class... tests are NOT easy
does not care about students succeding, hard tests, lots of detailed notes
No Comments
He is big on details and the tests are hard, but his lectures are interesting.
Impossible tests, interesting lectures, must take SI sessions with TA to pass
Sucks, hard as crap tests and too much info!!!
he will put you to sleep. he's rude, not helpful and don't care for the students
his lectures are interesting but his tests are horrible
rudest man ever, tests are impossible, and he's rude
by no means easy. but sort of funny in a mean way. interesting lectures
worthwhile professor (be prepared though)
Class is interesting, tests are fairly hard, study hard and you will be ok.
awful class... especially at 8 am. hard, boring, and uninteresting
hes a hard teacher but you learn a lot. lectures are interesting.

Easy class as long as you come everyday and take notes
he's very hard and is kind of mean, but you learn a lot if you're willing
Rude man, very anti-religion, goes out of his way to disprove it, avoid him
No Comments
Prereq hieroglyphics 101-youll need it to understand that writing he calls notes

hard as hell, boring, not interesting...avoid him!
Knows his stuff on ancient history, he's just underrated in the same Freshmen level class, if you can't handle it then why are you in college anyway
Knock him all you want, but the guy knows what he's teaching...take good notes and you'll be fine
This is a very good class. I learned a lot, especially about Asian history. He has really cool slides and he knows what he is talking about. I didn't see his as anti-religion. The funniest thing though is when he laughs! :)
Great teacher but hard
NOT A NICE GUY. Smart, though, and probably the best history professor here. A's aren't impossible if you come to class. If you want to understand history, take him; if you want an easy grader that cares, find another professor... Ummmheeey?
Look, it is easy...and I am not that smart. Come to class, take good notes. Don't read all of that BS he would like for you to read. Summarize books by reading the Indexes. He doesn't check. Trust me. All A's with the man. Class of 90.
This guy is in a foul mood 24/7. Lectures are interesting but the tests are very difficult. Beware of his map quiz. Some of the terms on it are NOT on his syllabus...
boring lectures, insanly hard tests, way too hard for a gen-ed class. avoid at all costs!
He knows alot, so you have to respect him. tests are hard...study every day. email him, he will give you help...class is all notes...boring, avoid if you want an easy class
Do not take him at 8am. He will put you to sleep, plus he won't let you bring coffee to class! Lectures are boring, and you have to write down everything he says. Tests aren't impossible, he grades reasonably too. Just don't take his class at 8am.
This man is terrible. Mean, rude, not nice at all. I would avoid him at all costs. I am a history major and I did terrible in his class. He is not an effective professor AT ALL!!
This man knows his history. Granted he's not the nicest person in the world, but try hard and participate in class. He'll like you better for it. Take notes, study, read the articles he assigns. Reasonable grader. Not an easy Gen-ed, but informative
good teacher, knows his history, but lots of notes and extremely boring. just copy down everything he says and read the articles he assigns, and you will be fine in his class.
Lectures are rather boring, and tests are very hard. Studying a lot does not help
His tests are pretty tough - very detail oriented, but if you take good notes you'll have 90% of the test. Also, do the reading he assigns - the remaining 10% of the test are from it. Oh, you won't use the big text book so don't buy it.
his pace is pretty impressive! take notes, study hard and you will still get a D!!! Looks like he is pissed teaching a Gened..... his test are all about details and names. your grade will not reflect what you know
Well he is pretty rude, tough, unhappy, yet very smart. I would recommend him unless you enjoy reading every min. of the day and memorizing every min. of the night. Goodluck if you have him. You will need it.
Not as terrible as everyone says. If you come in late for class he'll let you make up the quiz. He knows his stuff but he goes through it a lot. Puts a lot of emphasis on important people. Not much work outside of class.
Knows his ****.......incredibly smart but his tests are impossible. I'm good at history and my ave. test grade was a low D, but when you get to the weekly quizzes, they are much easier. Not too much outside reading, but make sure to read articles....
He is a good professor, knows his stuff. You will learn a lot. Tests are on an incredible amount of info and are impossible. Picks random things you wouldnt think are important. Take good notes (he gives LOTS-all class) and you'll be ok, read articles
Hasn't updated his material in decades (literally). Seems smart on the surface, but listen to him talk and you'll see he knows a little of everything but none of anything. Very anti-religious. Teaches you what he wants you to learn, not truth.
Really grat teacher. Knows what he's talking about. Read the articles he assigns, they're always on the tests. Tests are difficult but if you're prepared they're not too bad.
Take lots of notes. This class is hard as hell and the tests are impossible. He speaks fast and covers a lot of material. He knows his history.
He's a complete d***. This is the most difficult class I have ever taken. He tests you on trivial points and just has a bad personality. Lectures are interesting and he uses a lot of slides, but be prepared to work your *** off, because you WILL.
impossible to pass unless your a history major, then you might stand a chance. Very smart man, knows his stuff, just not very good at teaching it. tests are impossible, plan on spending a ton of time outside of class prepairing for tests and go to si sess
my hardest class this semester. smart guy but mean. test very hard, have to study 3 weeks in advance to do well. not impossible to get an A but waaaayyyyy to hard for gened
Tough exams + Extraordinarily Unpleasant Professor = Worst GenEd available. Just drop it dude--seriously.

Dr. Lembright is a kind and brilliant teacher. The best teacher I had at J.M.U.If you do not think he is a nice person you never have had an actual conversation with him.
His lectures were so fascinating that classtime literally flew by !!!!!! I could not wait to here what was next.
Great teacher
Good teacher, really knows his stuff. He's a little stuck on himself and makes the class harder than it probably should be. Go to class and read everything he assigns.
Most interesting class available. Really a great prof. But large amount of history. Go to class everyday, take excellent notes, read all assignments, and go to SI Sessions. A is not impossible if you begin to study for exams early enough.
dear lord, his class made me want to die. if you like story telling this guy is for you, he gave us about 500 names and dates to remember and its hard to figure him out when he talks sarcastically all the time
Ridiculous GenEd. Grades way too hard and is difficult to follow. Expects students to memorize minute details that are irrelevant. Completely brought down my GPA. Do Not Take this class, there are plenty of other professors that have reasonable demands.
It took me a little while to catch onto his sense of humor, but once I did, I thought he was cool. His class is challenging and you have to write LOTS of notes. But I enjoyed Ancient History the class, I thought it was so interesting!
if you like a test on literally 75 full pages of notes, take him. very smart, what you understand you aren't tested on. too much info to even comprehend. doesn't answer questions directly. GO TO SI SESSIONS if you do get stuck with him.
Class is intersting but he is definitely not. My hand hurts so bad after the class. It's November and I have about fifty pages of notes. The tests are essays and if you can remember fifty pages of notes specifically then definitely take him...if not run!
He is NOT helpful, is NOT clear, does NOT care if you pass or fail, does NOT teach well at all. AVOID this class and AVOID this professor!!!
Interesting lectures. HORRID person with a deplorable personality. The man has the biggest chip on his shoulder that I have ever seen. Tests are arbitrary and unforgiving. Class assignments are time consuming and count for only a minute portion of ones grade. Avoid this class, ESPECIALLY as a GenEd.
Great teacher great class, lots of info so lots of studying, but if u like history, great class.
great class if you like history. lots of notes, but everything is so clear. no attendance policy, but impossible to miss the notes. don't need to read the text. study notes and go to SI and its not hard to get an A or B.
class is interesting, notes are nuts. such a terrible person that it's funny. DO NOT ask him questions or you'll be emotionally abused. beady eyed, atrociously sweatered cruelly sarcastic, oozes disapproval from his pores. not terribly hard -- as long as you remember who did it--the SEA PEOPLES!
I don't know how i made it to all these classes for a whole semester. painfully boring and you take 4-5 pages of notes a day. Tests are very detailed but not impossible if you study the information. NOT a very nice person and not afraid to call you out in class.
rediculous expectations on exams, you really have to read the articles he assigns (which are mostly from HIS OWN books- 7 books total) and remember details. Really tough professor and not the nicest person ever. he knows a lot about history though... maybe too much.
I straight out love this guy. He's wicked funny when you're tuned into him. He might be too much for GenEds, he doesn't take excuses and he really does expect a lot out of you, but really, you should be expecting to have a lot expected out of you by now, GenEd or otherwise.
I Have him for Greece and Rome, he is awesome. Lectures are kinda boring, and lots of notes, but otherwise, tests are pretty straight forward, but you do have to study. Well knowledgable and recommended though!
I just graduated with my Master's Degree in Computer Science from JMU. I also went here as an undergrad, and I can say this guy is the worst professor you can ever have. I had him for GHIS, and I got a D. Kind of weird considering I graduated with Honors in Computer Science. Avoid this joker.
"Joker" is putting it mildly. This guy was terrible. Only showed slides of his trip to egypt and never taught anything--until test time, then he asked all sorts of weird open-ended multiple choice questions. WTF!?!?!
HOLY F*CK!TO HARD FOR A GEN ED! 7pgs of notes a day, loves to lecture. Hates when u ask quetions, tries to answer as quickly as possible or not at all,hes got this super annoying "uummmKK" type grumble thing he does like every 5 seconds, U better LOVE hist if u have this guy, he knows his ****! I had him for Maymester, WOrked my @ss off for a C
all ive got to say is ask him to impersonate a student with a cell phone, lol! expect to take lots of notes and don't let your cell phone go off during class.oh yea, don't wear a hat into class and make sure you raise your hand if you have to go.
worst teacher i have ever had. calls multiple choice, multiple guess and that is exactly what it is. he tries to trick you and always does. u take 1000 pages of notes and his tests are on material from your book. if you can avoid him please do you will hate this class
He moves through material way too fast, he's not very helpful, he doesn't go over any of the readings, and he tests really hard.
worst class ive ever had. do not take this class unless u plan on getting a D. ive never had a problem wiht learning history but his tests are impossible. and the class is so boring all u do is take like 7 pages of notes a day and all they are is a much of meaningless facts. take another teacher!!!
WORST TEACHER EVER! do NOT take this class with this man!He knows his info, but sucks at teaching it and will not help you. He is a perv!on our last test, on the matching, one option was "this person has orgies with boys" it that was ever in a REAL history book, i would remember it!but its not! save yourself, stay far away from this man!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hard. Hard Hard. Two tests, and then 3 weekly quizzes. The tests are death, mostly short answer. The quizzes are essays of your choice, and a lot easier. No attendance policy, but you have to come to class because the notes are worth it. Very old-fashioned man, and not personal with the students, at all. Avoid him if you can.
very tough class, you'll do well if you like history but if you don't i advise not to take this class. It's pretty demanding to study for the tests, and tons of notes.
omg this class is super hard! The two tests you have are impossible, the weekly quizzes are better. You must love history, you take pages and pages of notes. Very unhelpful man, kind of ****ed, doesn't make any attempt to get to know students. My advice - seek another ghist 101 teacher!
He is a very difficult profressor. His tests are very detailed and you must study A LOT! Later in the semester he gives weekly quizzes instead of tests which help to bring up the grade. Try to only take his class if you realllly like history.

extremely hard teacher. he should not be teaching 100 level history courses at all, way too educated. only take this class if you are a history majar!
Extremely difficult exams, but weekly quizzes at the end of the semester really help to boost grades. Lectures are actually kinda funny if you listen. He includes all the more sexual and violent elements of ancient history.
He is an interesting teacher, loves to talk about the violent and sexual anecdotes of the period. He may be hard for the gen eds, but is much easier in the upper levels. The tests are fair from class material, and he grades fair as well. 3 tests, and 2 papers (one being a book review) is all the class is, and it isnt that bad.
Wow, dont think im just some lazy complaining kid. this guy apparently hates life and all people in it, so that means he can go out of his way to make tests with questions that arent remotely relevant to the course material and that are a blatant attempt at failing as many students as possible. stay away if you dont want to work hard & still fail.
Extremely dull professor. The classes consist of nothing more than the recitation of facts, which you are expected to take notes of. Tests are extremely hard, short answer instead of multiple choice, and extremely specific. There are too many people in ancient history to try to remember with that level of detail, making this a very hard course.
BEST TEACHER I EVER TOOK A CLASS UNDER !!!!
My favorite teacher ever!!!!!!
Ancient Studies- Most interesting professor I ever took a class from.
Want to learn about European history from a true master? Well, take Dr Lembright's fascinating history of the middle east! That's right! You won't need to read a Koran or memorize obscure arabic poetry or the 1000 names of god. You won't get lost in the sands of arabia, because it barely gets covered!
