Great teacher, very informative, lots of activies
I would recommend this professor to anybody, very interesting lectures
A Great teacher. I really enjoyed his class.
Rob was a wonderful teacher. He had a skit to go along with every concept that not only helped you to understand the concept, but made the class so much more interesting.
Rob is a great teacher... and it helps that he is hot too! ;) Makes class a little more fun to go sit through! haha!
Great lecturer. Made the class fun. (and good looking as well!!) :)
Rob has mastered teaching. He integrates interesting activities into his courses, which further illustrate the concepts. I enjoyed these courses so much that I plan to enroll in COM 211 with him.
I wasn't to enthused to be taking a comm class but i enjoyed rob's class so greatly that i plan on taking an addl. comm class just to have him as a teacher agian, it was well worth my time.

Did not want to take this class, had to for my degree. Rob made coming to class exciting and interesting. Sexy men have a way of doing that!
I didn't know much about pub.speaking b/f I took it. I asked lots of questions and he had no problem answering all of them. Very helpful. I was dreading the class & it turned out to be fun. I would recommend him to anybody wanting to improve their p.speaking skills.
He is very funny and has a good sense of humor.
only 2 test in the whole class

The tests were hard. The teacher was really fun, and made coming to class easy. Some of the in-class activites had no meaning. Nice man, bad teacher. I've learned nothing other than I still hate talking to people.
Great Class Had Fun
Rob in one of the funniest people I have ever met. I did not want to take this class, but I had to for my major. However, he made coming to class very interesting and fun. He is very funny and light hearted. Take him for COM 211!!!
I was EXTREMELY disappointed with this class. We were not given hardly any lecture time, and Rob was exceptionally rude. I had my personal life brought before the class without my consent after we were given an option to participate. He also allowed a girl in my class to preach at us about her love for Christ. Seperation of church and state?
cool teacher easy to understand
A great teacher. Quite hot too--for an older guy.
awesome teacher. there were also some babes in this class. I liked the group activities cuz of all the babes I could get in a group with. maybe that's a bad reason to like a teacher but oh well. rob. you are the ****ing man.
I honestly do not feel like I learned anything in this class. Rob does not provide a rubric for speeches, so the grades pretty much reflect however he feels at the moment. I do NOT recommend him for this course.
Ok prof. Lectures not very helpfull. You really need to read the text do do well on the tests. Group activites were fun though.
Rob is one of the best profs at SCC - smart, funny and nice looking too. If you need to be spoon-fed, don't take him. If you know how to read and follow directions, you'll have a great time in his class. They should give him a raise.
i luved his class not only because he is so very sexy but he has a great teaching style. He made me enjoy public speeking something i never thought i would! i luv you mr. rob i want to have your babies!
He almost never used the textbook but depended on us reading everything to do the quizzes. He has a fun class and trys to help you if you're shy.
There wasn't a lot of lecture time because we had to use so many days for speaking and tests. If you don't plan to read the text book, you won't do well in this class. Tests were graded fairly and he isn't as critical of the speeches as I would have thought.
He was an overall great teacher. His enthusiasm shows and he's very relatable. The only thing I had trouble with was the class structure, he never went over the chapters and we had to prepare ourselves for the tests. Most of our time was spent on prepping and making speeches.
I hate small group - and this was a required class - however, I loved how Rob taught the class. He uses great examples to make the material make sense. He also has us do a lot of activities that are much more interesting than sitting through a boring pp lecture. I actually learned to like small groups.
Rob is an example of what a Professor should be. He seemed genuinely interested and engaged during class and when we had to present...ugh! He made the class members feel comfortable with his friendly and warm manner. I wish all of my professors actually made learning fun!!! I should also say that he is very cute.
If you did your work in his class and paid attention you got a really good grade. He taught the class to our level and gave us an easy way to learn the class.
He is awesome. If you want to have fun and learn a lot take Dr. Leonard.
A great prof! He made this subject interesting. Instead of rehashing what was in the text, he used class time for activities and group exercises that illustrated the concept we were learning about. I still remember playing telephone. I really enjoyed this class!! Take him for Small Group Communication if you can. I'm sure he's the best!
I will NEVER take him again. I'm a COM major and he failed me after my laptop got stolen on a business trip and I had trouble getting back on track. This was only for ONE week of class mind you. I took it online, big mistake. I tried to contact him for help from the start and he basically said "too bad." WHAT A JERK.
I should also add that he failed me when I was less than a POINT away from the next higher letter grade. GR.
He makes class interesting and enjoyable. He has a good attitude. There is some homework, but its not too hard. There are lots of group projects/tasks. Overall, good guy, just do the work and you'll be fine. *also there is a quiz like every other class.(3 hr class 1 day a week) I would take him again. Also, he has a snazzy sense of fashion.
Hated this class. Slow to respond. End of quarter and STILL waiting for grades from a month ago to present. Took online. Won't take him again unless I have to. Expect to get an A, so not sour grapes. Exams (online) are "closed book" - can't review your questions because he fears "cheating". Know you have one wrong ... oh well.
This class was just okay, there were times I wanted to fall asleep! I hated the quizzes, because they were over the chapters that are like 12 pages long of boring reading! Which brought my grade down, he doesn't give study guides for the test which sucked also. He was goodlooking!
I thought Rob taught every section the same - I don't know about the other ratings but in my class the quizzes WERE the test questions - I'd rather have that than a study guide. Also, I don't know how you could fall asleep when we were busy doing so much work. I like the teacher but I hated the topic.
He is a good teacher, hes hands on in class but he doesnt really cover the material you basically have to do it all on your own. I feel he fears being a "boring" teacher so he tries to have fun doing group assignments, but you end up having to review the stuff without the help or notes of the teacher. Big set back. Although he is extremely attracti
Excellent Professor! In class activities are group activities and they reinforce the topics of the current chapters. This class does require you to read the chapters for the quizzes but its college, what else do you expect...Overall a very good and helpful professor. He makes class fun while teaching the material.
I took his online class. He is willing to help in anyway you can, so use him as a source if needed. I would definately take his class again.
I hate that this class is required, bu tRob made it fun! Also helped that I took the Summer A term - five weeks of torture instead of 12. He has a great sense of humor and understands that most of us are not looking forward to speaking in public.
Great class to take if you do not like public speaking! It gives you your required credit and you only have to speak in fron of the class twice. Rob's tests are pretty easy, but it is totally up to the student to read the chapters BEFORE class to pass the "pop quizes." Highly recommend this class/ Prof.
he is freakin hilarious
I enjoyed this class, for the time we were there. We were often let go early because the prof had nothing left to say, or were given 20-30 minutes with our group to answer a single question. I often thought my $1 parking fee was wasted becuase we'd get only 15-20 minutes of actual teaching time.
This is a required class and Leonard lets you know this, repeatedly. He takes delight in knowing you HAVE to be there. He's also very proud that he's a DR.
DOCTOR Leonard is great ... had a wonderful time in his class and learned quite a bit along the way. The guy is hilarious!
DOC, is very cool and down to earth! He knows Communications inside and out and shows you how to apply it to your life! He will having you laughing every class. He is very clean always spary hand sanitizer which is also funny as crap. So don't cough because you will be put on the spot hand sanitized. LOL highly recommanded!!!!!!
I was in the hospital and missed an important part of the group project. Couldn't write the paper without the group response because that's what the paper was based on. Emailed telling him what was going on and he responded that everything would be fine. Aced all the tests and hw. He failed me with a D in my major-have to retake. First D in my life
In my opinion this teacher did not teach the class well. Was not concerned with teaching the class at all. Seemed bored and annoyed during group presentations and never graded anything on time. He seems like he has a huge ego. Yes he is cute but it def does not make up for his teaching.
This professor doesn't answer emails on time, when problems occur he tells you it will all be fine then docks you. I have 2 other degrees and this is the second worst prof. I have ever had. We as a class had to remind him of deadlines. Would not recommend him at all. If fact steer clear of him if at all possible.
Dr. Leonard is an excellent professor. I took this class online. All of his instructions were clear, the online lectures were interesting, and he kept us updated about his schedule so if he was late on grading, we understood why. The exams are easy if you read the book and the weekly work is appropriate and not overly taxing.
Don't know why people are whining about the book here, but, hey, as a student it is YOUR responsibility to get the book!! DUH! Not the prof. fault if you don't have it. He was a great teacher and I would highly recommend him. Not for people who can't take responsibility for themselves however!
I took this class online and thought he was great as a teacher, always touched base with us and let us know where he was at with grading and where we should be at that point in the quarter. Tests were impossible and that left me wondering if i could even pass so that was the only negative.
I pick classes based on RMP. So I tried to avoid Dr. L. BUT, I was so wrong. All the whiners who gave him negative commnents seemed to have screwed themselves. Dr. Leonard is smart, helpful, interesting, gave great feedback - everything exactly oposite what these morons said. And I know for a fact he has a girlfriend and a gay brother- idiots.
Really great instructor. He was always encouraging when a student was nervous. The tests were very hard but that was because of the department. Would def recommend.
I am very disappointed in this instructor. If this was the first class I took online I would probably not take another. The end of our quarter was Sunday, it is not Thursady and he still has not graded 3 assignments and 2 discussion/participation, I feel this is unacceptable as I have no idea where I stand in the class and the quarter is over.
Took his web class over the summer and found it a wonderful experience. Grading cannot be done nor do you want it to be done overnight - I was fine with getting my grade at noon on Thursday. Professor provided useful, relevant feedback that one could actually use to improve on. Highly recommend IF you want to learn!
Took the course online. Teacher rarely responds to email - unwilling to help students with personal issues. Not very understanding. The workload is decent, passable class.
Loved him!
This teacher was great! He put students at ease right from the start. His tests aren't easy, but they are fair. The group exercises were helpful and relevant. I looked forward to coming to class every day.
Positives: Helpful and clear on topics. Negatives: 80% of the time, you have to teach yourself using the book. He doesn't explain a lot of the terms in the book. The way he asks the questions on quizzes/tests are tricky. Quizzes questions, 15-20 out of 25, are on the test (freebies) but there are too few. So you lose 4% for every incorrect answer.
I took it online. He was not helpful, very strict and technical. Its a pretty easy class but do not expect help. oh, and he grades slooooooow!
"Really?" I took the class online too. He was VERY helpful, very fair and graded very quickly (except the last week but it was finals - duh!). Technical = follow the well-written instructions. And the other person - you mean you knew 20 of 25 test questions ahead of time and you're complaining? What else, you had to write your own paper? America...
He is not helpful at all. He answered my questions with question marks...seriously aggravating! The class was pretty easy you just had to make sure you read the text book.
Took this class online, not one of my favorites.. the tests are difficult so make sure you use the study resources available. Don't expect quick responses if you email him or quick grading.. It could take up to a week. He expects college level skills when applying theories in our papers. Overall, it was an "ok" class.
Not helpful, or prompt. Seems to think that assigning work and providing a grade (often a week or more after work is turned in) is enough. Would NOT recommend him if you want to monitor your progress throughout the term. Delays in grading serious limit this. He is slow to respond to work, not so slow to email. Never again for me!
I found Dr. Leonard helpful whenever I went to him for help. He usually responded fairly promptly to emails, and if not, he often addressed me in class about the matter. He focuses on application over pure memorization, which some may not appreciate. I loved his class.
This teacher requires a bit of writing and a lot of reading The tests are hard but he is available to answer questions and will take the time to make sure his students comprehend the material.
(I took his classes offered at WSU) I will take whatever other classes are offered by this professor. He is extremely funny and interesting, very smart, but very down to earth. Only word of advice, stay on top of the reading. He does not discuss it in class, but all exams and quizzes come directly from the book! Great professor.
Online- the class is a mess. Assignment directions are very unclear and you can't even use your previous grades on similar assignments to improve because he returns grades about 2-3 weeks later, despite arranging the due date mid weekend to help his grading timing. In another class his (still late) responses to each students grades are identical.
Would not recommend this professor. He was never on time to class, he also cancelled class all the time. He doesn't teach, but makes you read the entire book to take the quizzes and comprehensive final. He is rude when asked for help. Yes he is funny, but not fair in grading certain things at all. Took all semester for him to post grades.
Nicest guy ever! I looked forward to going to class. He was hilarious and so helpful. I enjoyed the class and am switching my major to mass comm because of him!
Nice, funny, super smart. Class is never boring because he never lectures. Lots of teaching yourself but he makes quizzes and exams really easy. Be ready to present in front of the class several times throughout the semester. Taking him again in the fall!
This guy is horrible to take online. Takes at least a month to grade a single paper. gives vague assignments and takes forever to answer questions about them. Gives no info about what to expect on exams. He spent more time putting a lame photo of himself in an intro than he did assisting students in the class. Do not recommend. Waste of money.
Kinda in between with this teacher if you have him online. A lot of points available most are easy to receive. Vague directions with papers and poor response time to questions. Assignments are easy and no final just 4 exams online. I got a B+ because some of his exams are timed and info is hard to memorize. No real complaints though, I passed!
I took his online class and had to drop it. His essays have very vague instructions. I have been writing academic essays for five years and have never gotten anything below a B. For my first essay in his class, I received a D. The only way I could have gotten a better grade was if he dictated the essay to me. I'm a hardworking student. He's bad.
Robert Leonard is a very nice and laid back professor. The class is difficult not because he is a bad teacher but because public speaking (overall) is difficult.
I have had him in-person as well as in the classroom. He is SO much better in person! His expectations are better laid out & he makes classroom time/assignments as fun as possible. He does have daily quizzes so be prepared to read outside of class. Overall, he would be one of my favorite professors at Sinclair. Worth taking his class!
He is a really easy grader in speeches. Also very encouraging and understanding.
If this is your first public speaking course take him, very enjoyable, works well with students, personable, normal class. Doesn't like late work, will work with you if your nervous or just not ready for speeches. Homework and work is easy if you pay attention in class. Take him if you have the chance I looked forward to this class!
Excellent teacher!!
Sort of had a bad impression of this teacher at first. Ended up having some major issues outside of school about halfway through the term. Basically ghosted the class for literally two and a half weeks, came back thinking I was screwed. Crammed in like almost half a terms work into the last week, down to the last day. He was totally good with it.
The information taught in this class is applicable in the real world. Professor Leonard states on the syllabus that the class is difficult. The course material itself is not difficult, but the way it is measured is. No feedback is given on assignments. He is a slow grader. You are given one minute to answer each critical thinking question.
I don't know if it is the teacher or the class but either way this is one of the easier classes I have taken at Sinclair.
Professor Leonard was one of my favorite teachers! He is a very caring guy and understands if you are not ready to give a speech on your date. He helps with your work if you just ask. He really enjoyed our class and would give us extra credit fairly often!
Professor Leonard has been the best teacher I have had at sinclair. He is hilarious and I actually want to attend his classes. A lot of work is done in class and instructions are clear. For a class that can seem intimidating he makes it fun. As long as you put in your best effort and show up for speeches you are fine!
He is extremely unkind and does not care about anything you might have going on in your life outside of class. He does not accept late work, is one of "those" professors that makes everything due on Friday for their own convenience, and takes off 50% of your grade for one small typographical error. Avoid him at all cost, he is not a joy in class.
Professor Leonard was a decent professor. He provided good material and the course was relatively easy. My only complaint about him is that he is extremely unkind and does not care about your life outside of class. He seems to think that his course is the most important for everyone. He only wants his students to succeed to an extent.
Felt like social media with big brother reporting in. Took a real kumbaya take on communication (there is no such thing as communication breakdown) while yelling at us for being stupid and doing it wrong. He is a my way or the highway kind of professor so if you aren't on the same wavelength with him, DROP!
A communications professor that sends emails featuring numerous lines in all caps. Didn't seem mad or trying to have a teachable moment... just a poor communicator.
Difficult guy to communicate with. Will tell you to do something and then will take off points for doing that thing. He isn't very willing to work with you. He had me redo two speeches because I only showed my audience once instead of twice and proceeded to tell me that he is, "unsure of why you would redo the speech." Stay away
I've had Dr. L for 3 classes - and I want more. The poor reviews are from students w/bad grades: 1 reviewer was upset they didn't follow directions and had to redo a speech, 1 reviewer was mad that Dr. L sent emails - YES he sends emails to REMIND us something is due!!! Dr. L has been the best, most competent, engaging, smartest prof ever!!! A+
Never responded to an email, Does not seem like he wants you to succeed. I attempted and completed every assignment and was told I was not active in class. Had to redo multiple things and every time something else was wrong even after following the example side by side to my assignment. Doesnt seem to care much about you as a student at all.
Took VL format. We were a small class (8 total). All 5 speeches must be attempted to pass. Attendance is big. He gives good feedback. He's understanding and has a sense of humor. Quizzes/exams are easy. Textbook is online or can be bought. I'll really miss this class & everyone in it!
I had Dr Leonard for three classes and he was also my capstone advisor. I really enjoyed working with him. He allowed me to resubmit anything that had an error and gave great feedback. He can be picky but as I said, has always given me a chance to correct myself. I would absolutely take more classes with him if I could.
He often uses rude language and tones to talk to students. My friend and I are both in his class and have been berated by him a couple times. His grading is ridiculous as well and doesn't make sense. Does not care about the student, only the grade. God forbid you have an emergency, have fun getting a 0%! I do not recommend signing up for his class.
lowers final grade a whole letter if you miss 3 classes .Late policy states work is accepted within 7 days but then adds at his discretion so he can give you a 0. I never turn in late work but he told us a few days before Thanksgiving we needed interviews so i could not finish the outline by the due date since most people were busy before duedate
Despite receiving an A+, I struggled with Dr. Leonard. I felt that one or two weekly videos and a Wikipedia link that pertained to that weeks subject as the only learning materials was insufficient, especially due to the fact that as students, it is unacceptable for us to use Wikipedia as a paper resource.
DON'T TAKE HIM. He is so conceited. He expects perfection from students while he gives the most petty directions. He looks for any reason to fail a student. Take anyone else or just check Wikipedia yourself.
Dr. Leonard is a very fair professor. If you show up on time and prepared for your speeches you will have no difficulty in his class. If you consistently show up late and unprepared this will be a difficult class for you.
Horrible communicator despite teaching a communications course. Does not give clear directions and makes you redo things for the smallest complication. Passive aggressive emails. Avoid him at all costs! Speech prompts are boring and almost unbearable. Says he "cares about students and wants them to succeed" but actions show otherwise. AVOID!!
Dr. Leonard was an incredible professor for my class. He laid everything out in order for us to easily understand and broke down each speech we would be doing. You need to participate as a part of the class but he makes it very easy to do so. Would definitely recommend this great instructor!
Engaging professor who really made the class fun. The syllabus and criteria were very clear, making the class a breeze. Would definitely take a course with this professor again.
Professor Leonard is a mixed bag - strict on attendance and late work, but also engaging and helpful if you put in the effort. unstuckstudy was great for speech prep.
He is a very tough grader which would be fine if he gave sufficient feedback, but he does not. His directions are also pretty vague at times.
I took this class completely online. Very strict for needing 8 audience members and following all recording rules. A good amount of time in between speeches to do work, write, and practice. 5 total speeches. I'm not exactly perfect at public speaking, but it was easy to get an A if you follow all directions (you can mess up without a heavy penalty)
