Very interesting lectures.
Lectures that were given need to be memorized basically to do well in course
DON'T take internet course. Prof unbelievably unhelpful.
STAY AWAY FROM INTERNET COURSE. He does not like using the interface
No Comments
Why a prof who doesn't like computers is teaching an internet class is beyond me

Extremely bad teacher!!!
Drop it if you can!!!!

Very nice guy. A bit stirct . follow his lectures to do well. A true gentle MAN
Don't take the internet based course - get in on the lectures. Good lecturer - nice style - great concepts. Fun course
have to memorize the lecture with exact wording... u'll get no mark in the test if u mispell anything or even forgot to put -ly, -ness , etc. in the word. A 200 words introduction on a 2000+ words essay is too long for him. Worst Prof i've ever had!!!
HIS LICTURES ARE VERY VAGUE
Great easy course - clear notes. Pointless task of memorizing definitions and variances on definitions from one author to another. Why we are tested on this is beyond me. Isn't it best to test on knowledge, and not parrot fashion regurgitation!
Asks for short one line answers on test... I gave him that and got bad marks. Stick with the usual full sentence answers with a touch of B.S... Overall, the class was still easy.

A serious monotone. good prof, assigns too much reading. EXTREMELY detail-specific exams. Multiple choice answers are indistinguishable, one question has 100 parts to it. BUT they are quite predictable/easy to study for. Thank God for printable notes!!
Great Job!
Can comer across with an attitude but very understanding and helpful. Likes to ramble and get stuck on 1 topic for weeks. Overall, worht it cause you learn and get a good mark.
Good prof. Online lectures were clear and helpful and the exam was very fair. I learned a lot in this course that I would not have learned on my own.
Awsome teacher . . very helpful; i liked his class : )
I am quite unsure as to how he can get good ratings..he is not only monotone, he's deadly! The tests are ridiculous, and there is a mutual consenses in the class that no matter how hard you study for his tests, they are impossible, as he is too specific IE: have to remember definitions word for word..easy class, do well on assignments, you'll pass!
Very interesting course, I learned a lot and the exams are easy if you actually take the time to study the lectures printed from the course website. Professor Levine is also very fair and easy to talk to. I highly recommend this class!

I took the online course, and it was pretty good. He was very clear with his lecture notes. He seems like a funny guy. I'd recommend taking the internet option for this course.

One of the best profs i've had so far. He seems quite intimidating and rude during the first 2 weeks of his class as to how he describes the expectations.. but he is an extremely caring and helpful prof! Tells you exactly what to study for the exams and marks fair. Highly recommended!
Easy and Clear, Opened up my mind on issues never considered before.
Terrible teacher!! Rude, mean and completely unhelpful when asked for. Made snide comments about students and was completely unrealistic in terms of expectations for the class.
Very helpful professor, but very hard marker. The course is not a hard course, but he will make it very hard to you. Average grade in this course is low.
I am currently in his NATS class and i declare him the best professor ever. He know his job inside out and is very considerate in all he does. Not mean at all and i have every respect for him. He is 100% professional.York needs more professors like him.
This guy is really tough on his markings, and pretty strict on about everything. His expectations on students is too high. He evaluates us more on our english writing skills than on the actual content of natural science subject. Which also goes to show how meaningless this subject really is.
he is such an ****. rude, complains about teaching.. i do not recommened taking a class with him!!!
he is rude, conceited, and not nearly as intelligent as he thinks. his tests are a joke. he expects the student to remember minutae from his examples as opposed to actual course content... not that there is much content to begin with.
He is a bit of a perfectionist.Although helpful, he regards his course as really important, but in my opinion, the course is not really that helpful in real life. He markes really hard and checks his essays mainly on the basis of English grammar and not much on the course material.
Very nice professor. Fair in every aspects..........
Amazing professor, he marks hard, but is very clear on what specifically he wants, and how to study for his class. He is more than willing to help students, and attempts (even though he may not always succeed) to make a fairly dry topic interesting.
crazzzzzzzzzzy teacher
A really good teacher, seems very strict on people, but got a good heart, and the willingness to teach.
great guy...makes sense of a great deal of concepts and he seems to really consider the way he explains things as to make them most understandable - always says the right thing. i reccomend him although evening classes with him can be really slow
Fair proff.
best prof ever, hes there for the students if you need it.
the best prof one can get. He is so understanding and alway helpful before and after class. If you're deciding take a course with him, do it without a doubt. He's willing to help you out without any worry.
Useless course and boring professor. You dont learn anything useful stuff but some crappy things in this class. If u are practical person, dont take this course!
Worst teacher ever. Lot of his notes are copied from books without mentioning his sources and don't accept that he could make mistakes at all, you are going to do ok if you never contrary him or say that you don't agree. I dont recommend you this teacher.
He teaches well, very clear on information you need to know for midterm/final exam..Lectures can get a little boring and slow at time.
He is tough on marking. Especially writting such as grammer and spell. He said nobody did perfect in the assignment in terms of writting. If you are not good at writting, dont take his class.
He's right, she does have a beautiful smile :)
Funny teacher, very easy going, I can't complain.
Best prof i've ever had, most available when assistance is needed
Worst teacher ever. He is so personal Nagitive and do not like his students. He going to make your life miserable!!!
it is not a good choice for international students to take this course, because he takes care of your grammar very much. once he sees your name of Asia, he is gonna attend your gramma and discourage your study. absolutely,i do not recommend this teacher for studing. And He spend half of the lecture time to threat students.
It is not hard to get good marks in his class since he posts the lecture summaries and exam sample questions. You need to spend time reading the summaries and working on the exam sample questions. I have found it very worthwhile to listen to oral lectures when preparing for the final since he mentioned everything you'd need to know for the exam!
If your first language is not English, don't study with him. He keep dig my grammar mistake in assignment, he could find grammar mistake form a sentence I copy from a public book. In first assignment he change "do not" to "don't" and deduct my makrs. I guess the biggest English mistake is my name is not an English name.
You either love him or hate him. If you want to slack off, go try something else. I wouldn't say the course is an eye-opener but it definitely makes you think if you are not indifferent.
Hilarious prof, makes the subject of technology/computers very interesting. Will help you if you ask him. Wouldn't mind having him as a prof again.
Absolutely the WORST Professor I ever encountered! He was moody, arrogant, chose favorites, had aggressive outburst, useless, ignorant, creepy, unprofessional... ect!!!! Class was unless, and the Prof was an abomination!!!
Quite an easy class if you're interested in learning how a microchip is made. Very strange man - came in one day and he was in a blue nasa space suit. No clue !!
Worst Professor I have ever had.
He's very funny and enthusiastic about teaching. He's willing to help you as long as you're willing to study. He's very clear on what he expects, and help you prepare for that. I don't even need to study for the exam because he repeats the materials many times in class to make sure that it's pushed into your head.
I don't know what to say about this professor. He gives an easy lecture summaries online, which makes it look easy but the 30% of the questions on midterm is out of nowhere. I don't know where they come from. I find economics and math more easier. The professor is alright I guess but the course itself messed up.
He is very clear, helpful and makes himself very available to his students. He has a passion for teaching and is willing to help you as much as you are willing to work. I highly recommend doing this class as it also opens your mind to many issue you wouldn't normall think of.
great man and a great prof i still remeber him after 6v years
He can easily be known as the best professor, as the best lecturer, as an outstanding speaker, as a well-rounded and respectful man, and as a treasure made out of knowledge. His attitude and ideas will change as a perosn, he makes total sense especially when get to the end of the course. Don't be scared to voice your opinion and approach him anytim
The best professor at York
I have to be fair with this professor. Many people like him because he talks so nice to the whole class. But from what I have seen he has shown favoritism among some students.(girls, senior students who knows alot about computers) He is very judgemental that if he thinks you are not working hard, he is going to be very rude to you in person.
This class speak of same matter for weeks. The course content is very small that the prof marks you on basis of your writing skill. It is not very useful class.
He is the most amazing Professor I have ever come across at York University. Even at times of difficulty, he does not give up in providing more clarity for one to understand the material. He starts off his class saying to always believe in yourself...and if you stay in the class, you will realize he ends the course with the same words.
Excellent Professor. Explain all the material well and provides very useful and helpful notes.
Ok prof. Can be intimidating, but he does it to filter out the "lazy" students. If you're not good at grammar and/or essay writing, DO NOT take this course, he will rip your paper apart! I suggest taking this course during the SUMMER if offered, it's a lot easier. Can be rude at times, but if you can put up w/it, you'll be fine.
Just had a final exam for Elements of Law this past Saturday - I have to say he's one of the best professors I've had at Uni so far. He explains everything very clearly and if you put in the effort and attend lectures, no reason why you shouldn't get a good grade.
He's extremely helpful and is not ambiguous on expectations. Switch to his section if you can.
****ing genius
He honestly cares about his students and he is fair...but lectures can be boring some of the times
He is absolutely the best prof ever!!!! Extremely helpfull.I took nats with him in the summer and switched to his law section when i found out he taught it. If you can switch to his section AMAZING
Robert is a really good professor. He explains all the material and then repeats everything on tutorials. His exams are very fair. Also, he has great sense of humour! His class is never boring. I'd advise everyone to take law with him.
One of the few professors who really cares about students. Love his teaching ability, it seemed that everyone in that class attended his lectures until the last day of class, because he makes it fun, interesting and most of all knows how to teach the material very well. One of the Best professors I've had.
One of the best profs ever. Made the lecture interesting and was very helpful to his students. Exams were fair as long as you follow his lecture notes. I would recomend this prof to anyone who's going to take Elements of Law.
"Let's Be Rocket Scientists Here..." "neuh.. neuh neuh neuh.. oh you guys are great" Aside from his repetitive jokes, BEST PROF EVER! Explained everything in LAW perfectly. I actually feel like I learned something and the exams were extremely fair (uses examples he used in class as questions on the exam) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
likes to fail the class
amazing teacher. so helpful and extremely understanding
THis proff was AMAZING! i would love to take another course with him. He is absoultely hilarious and if you go to class ...you will do fine...he explains everything so well..and is willing to teach a concept in multiple ways if you dont understand it the first time:) good luck everyone!
Wonderful professor, great sense of humor. I attended all his lectures and tutorials and easily got a B+ in the course. My advise - take law with Robert Levine.
He is one of the best prof I've had throughout my university life. He is willing to go the extra mile to help you understand all the terms and concept. He is willing to give extra help sessions and repeatedly hammer the concept into your head. His lectures are fun and must attend. You'll end up saving a lot of reading time by going to class.
He is extremely positive, supportive, knowledgable, and engaging.
He is positive, supportive, knowledgable, and engaging.
Funny, genuine, interesting and positive! Loved his class!
One of the best and most caring professors in the university. Always willing to give extra help. Easy to get a long with and get a good grade. Highly Recommended.
BEST prof ever! he makes everything so clear and so easy to understand. He is by far the best professor that I ever had at York. He truly cares for his students and gives as much help as possible to ensure that you do well in this course. Highly recommended!
This was my 2nd class with him and I totally LOVED it. His classes are interesting and as long as you come to class and study what he tells you to study you should be ok. He is a Good prof
I took Nats 1700 course under him in wnter 2001. great prof. very helpful, knowledable person. Be careful about the grammatical mistakes and language in your assignments and exams. Glad to know that he is still teaching the course. Would still take a course(if needed) taught by him. GOD BLESS PROF LEVINE!!!
He is the most helpful and influential prof i have ever had. Simply amazing guy.
i didnt like him, hes actually quite mean. hard to follow, class isnt very well structured. heavy emphasis on participation -_-. im not biased, even though i got a good mark, i still dont like him. hard marker in my opinion. boring monotonous voice.
COULDN'T ASK FOR A BETTER PROF... GOES OVER AND BEYOND HIS DUTY TO TEACH AND CLAIRIFY HIS MATERAIL.
One of the best prof i have ever had. he is extremely helpful and make you achieve what you have on your mind. prof. levine goes beyond his duty to help students unlike many other professors.
Interesting material, lots of discussion in class, negotiates grading scheme with students. Exams/assignments are straight-forward. We had a participation mark, but you can still do well even if you don't participate. Can be a bit mean/moody when approached.
Unless english is your first language, 'promiscuous" is your second name, white is your color and basically know how to kiss a..; don't take this class with Levine. Not only does he have favorites, he is also a very hard marker with unreal expectations in terms of his short story assignment. If u want an A just feed his ego and u'll be fine...g.luc
Excellent Professor!
Very intelligent. Hard to keep up with at times.
One of the best teachers i've had yet. He really goes the extra mile to try to help students. For midterm he went though the scantron by hand to make sure people didn't mess up. He makes sure you only learn relevant things and adds extra days for tutorials and lectures at his own inconvenience. Strict as hell.He WILL get angry if you don't keep up
one of the best professor, make adms2610 so easy. Attend his lecture, textbook is useless
Simply the best.... best professor at York ever.
Informative, encouraging and non judgemental. Thinks highly of his students potential.
Hilarious! This guy truly cares about his students and goes above and beyond to ensure their success. He provides online lecture notes and audio files for every lecture. Highly recommended! I was in Furman's class and switched over... it was almost like taking a different course.
He is very smart, thus his marking style is unreasonably tough. Assignment was short and was worth 35% which is BS. Exams were HARD, and even if you know all the answers, you will still get 70% just because "you did not clearly prove your statement". Basically, lick his ass, and act like his class is the best in the world, and you will get an A.
Best Prof at york hands down
BEST LAW PROF EVER!!! Soooo funny! But strict. Attend his lectures and save yourself from reading the textbook. He's a HARD marker so prepare yourself! I got an A on my midterm but ended up with a B in the course :( BUT take 2610 with Levine, you will have fun AND you will be interested in learning!
What a superb prof! He cares, is funny and he really wants to make a difference. He grasps the ways of teaching. What a difference a great prof makes!! I loved this class.
Really the best professor at York. Very unusual teaching-style. Amusing, funny, though-provoking and never boring. But be prepared for a hard (but fair) marker. You will not do well if you do not attend the lectures. But with a prof like this, why wouldn't you?
Was dreading Law but he made it enjoyable. Genuinely wants students to succeed so he dedicates 1hr extra to tutorials and posts summaries of relevant material for his class, saving us from reading the whole textbook. Even gives his cell# if you have questions. No other prof does these things. Know your stuff for tutorials-he has high expectations.
Very good professor because he cares the success of student. As long as you study all his stuff and understand the concepts, you will be fine. Remember to review all stuff many times, it will be helpful for the final.
This professor is really helpful and goes out of his way to keep the class from zoning out....though his low voice makes falling asleep really tempting!
If you need extra help, this prof goes out of his way to help. His tests and exams are designed for hard working students that want to succeed. Professor Levine is by far the greatest professor i have ever had. He goes above and beyond his duties as a professor.
This professor is AMAZING! He will go an extra mile to help his students IF you ask for it. He loves discussions and they are quite interesting too. So attend class, listen carefully and read a bit if you would like to get at leasta B grade. He is one of the best profs and he is really good at making boring content interesting.
Awesome prof!!! Hate law but really like his class. He comes off as bit of a hard ass, but its mainly over students impoliteness. Put your cell on silent. Overall he give you the extra help and time you need to succeed or do well in his course. he really wants students to learn.
One of the best profs I have ever had. He is very helpful and is always there to answer questions. Got a B+ just by attending class and doing readings. Exams were easy and straight from the class notes. AWESOME PROF!
Lectures consist of either Discovery Channel programs or him rambling incoherently on topics he doesn't fully understand.
Professor Levine is outstanding. If you attend his class, do the readings, and participate you will do well. He is always there to help students and will go above and beyond to help - all you have to do is ask.
Very helpful professor and good person!
Very helpful professor and good person, straight to the point.
One of the best professors I have ever come across. He cares about his students and does what he can to be as available as possible to answer any qs you may have. Highly recommended.
If I could choose my professor for every course it would be Levine. He loves his job and is very thorough. He goes above and beyond to help students, e.g. I called him the night before my exam, which happened to be a legal holiday, and he answered my questions. Now if that isnâ??t dedication to your job and love for your students? BEST PROF. EVER!
BEST professor! Attend all the lectures and make notes! Study for mid/fin and DO NOT BS because you won't get marks. Your ans should be to the POINT, either u know it or you don't. His jokes are also very funny lol! But I felt kind of awkward to laugh :( I hope his head is okay cause he banged it against a wall since noone answers his questions LOL
Best professor i have ever met
Awesome prof. Very helpful when you need it, and absolutely rewards real effort. His class was very interesting and not too difficult. His voice is pretty monotone though and can get somewhat boring, but he's a funny guy and he never takes himself too seriously.
Very interested in helping his students succeed. A pleasure to have as a prof1
Nice and helpfull
Very helpful an very understanding prof! You can see him trying his best to teach you and help you succeed.
Lectures were pretty boring but he was nice and seemed to genuinely want students to succeed. Test reviews posted on moodle were helpful. If you do the readings you'll do fine.
The worst prof! Very unclear and unrealistic! Very disorganized! He can be extremely rude. He thinks his jokes are funny but they are just absolutely stupid. He doesn't spend time in class wisely. He can waist the time in class just handing out bak the tests to 200 students! He doesn't care about his students!!!!!
Professor Levine is a wonderful prof. I have had no problems with him and I found that his lectures are not as boring as I predicted. He has a wonderful sense of humor and seems as if he loves his job and that really projects through his lectures. I really recommend this class, especially if you don't have a science background like myself.
Professor Levine is one of the best! He builds respectful relationships with his students, and he teaches his student, not lecture his students. He understands the majority are not going to be lawyers and presents the material through his own lecture notes and breaks down the material for the students. He offers extra tutorials :)
He is an AMAZING prof. He really cares about his student and explains the material until you understand it. His postings are amazing and straight to the point, will save you a lot of time, better than the book. He will prepare you very well for the exam. Also he offers tutorials at his own time, but make sure you know your stuff!
He is good. Hard marker and very picky!! if you explained well but didn't use the term he was looking for, you will lose a lot of marks!! Read book and his lecture notes! you can get minimum "B" if you put effort.
Wonderful professor. Work hard, participate, and attend his class and you will do well. He believes that every student can do well and he is always willing to help you out.
Robert Levine is a wonderful professor!Very humble and his attitude is great, and he genuinely cares for his students. To succeed, always read the articles and know them because article related questions are always on his tests!
The best professor I ever had. He cares about his students. He will go above and beyond if you ask him for his help. Wish more profs were like him. Loved his lectures, very interesting and informative.
Great prof., little eccentric would take him as a prof again without thinking about it.
Amazing prof. Gives lecture summaries which makes it really easy to study since you can fully pay attention in class. Tests completely related to lecture material and summaries so no surprises. Really good exam reviews as well.
You CANNOT go wrong taking this course with Levine.Great humour, great lecturer, but hard marker. You absolutely have to go to every lecture if you want a good mark. He prepares notes and summaries for the classes so the textbook isn't really necessary.I find the book completely confusing and unorganized.Would definitely take more courses with him
I adore this prof. He genuinely wants his students to succeed, makes his test reviews incredibly specific, and always has time to help students out. He's also really happy and funny as a lecturer. I'm definitely going to take another one of his courses. :)
He doe not teach well, asked us to read many stuffs in the course kit but he didn't teach any, you have to learn ALL BY YOURSELF. He only teach dinosaur extinction in the last two lectures and he ask us to calculate the impact of asteroid for no reason. The only thing good is the tutorial. He keep changing his mind about lectures all week.
His is cool professor. His notes are better than book.
I took his class in the summer i have been recommending him to anyone looking to take a NATS. he is super funny, if you read all the lecture summaries and pay attention you will pass. he really cares about his students.
Thinks he can control the weather. The only thing I developed from his class was further resentment for York's administration. His jokes are stupid, his lectures are bipolar, and he repeats the same STAT about transistors every lecture. Implores people to participate, then discourages them for thinking freely. Was kidnapped by a clown once..
can learn more by watching the smurfs. Bill Nye the Science Guy has a better grasp of quantum mechanics than this man. Flip a coin before entering each lecture, because there's probably a 50-50 chance that you'll learn nothing. It's anyone's guess with Levine. His exams are long, but not too challenging. His notes are built on contradictions.
Very funny professor. His employment taught me that York's a joke, and the joke's on us.
An awesome individual and seriously makes every class and topic a studying session for both the students and for himself. He gives the students the feeling of understanding concepts in the course and wants the students to discover new stuff every class. I recommend taking a course with him.
Best professor at York. His lectures are extremely important so attend each class. I failed his course the first time I took it cus I missed lectures. Next semester, attended every class and got a B grade.
This is probably the most boring, unhelpful, unclear prof ever at York Uni. He is a nice guy but expects way too much and does not even explain the material properly for this class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He is extremely rude when you ask him for help. Prof Levine is very disorganized. His lectures bored me to death and I didn't learn a thing.
Robert was a great professor. He is straight to the point, provides lecture summaries and records all lectures so students can view them online. It's clear he has a passion for what he teaches & takes it very seriously. With that said, attend classes, ask questions & you will do pass the class with flying colors!
Professor is a nice man who genuinely cares about his students. Nonetheless, the class is boring and the test/assignment is worth 40% of your grade which makes it easy to fail the class.
Attendance is a must.Hard course,prepare2spend weeks studying 4midterm/final.Intimidating but his notes do a good job summarizing material.Ton of concepts2learn,apply2cases.They added extra material4the same12weeks.Went from hard2crazy hard.Take law course@Rye2 transfer it,its open book final, theres less material2learn in the same amount of time.
classes were boring. But its easy for tests when you go through lecture summaries and recordings.
Worst professor ever. Do NOT ever take any classes with him. His lectures are very boring and he is not able to explain concepts clearly. He thinks that he knows everything because he has a law degree. Also very impatient and disrespectful.
Boring, but I would recommend it to fulfill nats Gen-ed bc he explains clearly. a bit intimidating at first, but got used to him. Although exams/tests/assignments worth a lot, he provided lecture recordings and summaries which are very helpful. as long as go to class and put in an effort, can do well.
Excellent Prof. Has his own lecture summaries which are far more useful than textbook. Tells you exactly which areas to focus on. Attendance is HIGHLY recommended. Knows his concepts inside out. A bit tough on the marking but he does make the course much easier than it is. Learn the summaries and u will be fine !
Best prof for 2610 for sure. He cares about ur marks and is realy good at teaching the material. He hates the book dont even buy it. But u must attend every single lecture Cause thats the material for the exam not the book. Write down every word he says and ull do great. Also u must listen to his instructions for the exams Write FULL answers
Robbie has the greatest sense of humour out of any professor I have had! He laughs at all my jokes and is cool if you tell him that he looks like a dinosaur. He is extra impressed if you do research and find out exactly what kind of dinosaur he looks like. Robbie always has a smile on his face and leads very exciting lectures. -CJ
Good prof. Bell curves because his exams are a bit challenging.
Definitely the kind of prof to WANT you to pass, and will help you out in any way he can! His lectures are long and boring though because he has a monotone voice that you can barely hear.
Go to class. Read the summaries and do the practice questions. He makes his expectations very clear for the midterm and final.
content was interesting and he is very willing to help students, however, VERY unorganized prof. marks often posted late, very last minute changes to exam format. Literally tossed out a 3rd of the final exam the day before we wrote it. makes it hard to get a good mark just purely from lack of consistency. heavy readings
Great prof. Get to know him. Don't ask stupid question. Care about your future and so will he.
He was a great prof! I was terrified of taking a NATS but he made the class an amazing experience.
In all honesty, you are definitely capable of getting an A in this class. Do beware, because his lectures are incredibly boring and what he told me to study was NOT on the exam! But anyway, I know he is a nice professor and he really does care.
I took two courses with him and his is just awesome! He posts lecture recordings and summarizes his lectures so you don't even have to attend classes. His exams are so easy, he is jut like a high school teacher. His lectures are boring but honestly no matter how hard the course sounds he will make it so easy, mine was "Dinosaurs Extinction"!
he is a nice guy, care for student, make this mandatory course much easier. If you want to take business law, take he absolutely!!!
he's rude asf. his exams are tricky, and he's a tough grader. He dosent let you eat in class or drink, he randomly picks on people for answers. DONT BOTHER WITH THIS CLASS. Dinosaurs seem so cool but after this course ure honestly never ganna think of them the same LOl.
He can seem rude at first but does not intend it at all. Once you get to know him, he is really helpful and actually cares about what you learn from this course. Very intelligent and humble. He makes the best summaries which saves you a great deal of time as you would not have to read the whole textbook word for word. I STRONGLY recommend.
Robert is very student friendly. He allows the class to decide on the grading scheme. You will have to do 2 tests and will probably choose between a 3rd test or an assignment. For the assignment you can choose to write a research essay, a short story, do a project, etc. The tests do not ask for rote memorization, general knowledge is good enough.
Interesting class but the prof can be boring at times. This class can be misleading as its considered a 'bird' course but beware as his midterms can be tricky so you must really know your stuff to do well.
He can be a bit monotone and boring at times, but if you really listen you realize the topics he discusses are quite interesting. Just don't let him see you on your phone! There are alot of readings but he has you highlight the parts you need to know for exams. One test, exam and your choice between a second test or assignment. Easy B+/B overall
Hated his classes. The only reason why you should attend is because he makes you highlight key points, and sometimes the recordings he posts are incomplete. He also breaks down the concept for you. Just pray you don't fall asleep! I found it helpful to sit at the front, you can also hear him clearer. Try to put away any distractive gadgets.
Ended up with an A+ in this course BUT be aware that he is extremely monotone, quiet, and NOT engaging in lectures. Lectures are good only bc he highlights specific passages in the notes that will be tested on. Test wording is confusing but some of it is straight from the text. Be prepared to be confused during the course, I was and still did great
He was AMAZING !!!! Best Prof I've ever had !!!! Did no readings, studied very little, hardly went to class and payed attention, and still came out of that class with an A. He is a very easy marker and tests are soooo simple. Overall, great prof, great class, very easy and cool !
He is AWESOME!!!!!! Explain material very clear and in detail. Law is complex, but his explanation made this course easier and great.
The most unorganized professor I have ever seen.
i took his online nats class and the exams were fairly easy as long as you read through the notes and keep up with the work
Professor Robert Levine is a really good professor, he explains things very well, and also, he tells you exactly what to look for on tests. One thing I will say is that, if you have a 3 hour lecture with him, he only uses 30-60 minutes of it. Also, the textbook was used in every lecture, so be sure to bring it with you.
Disappointed with this professor, was really looking forward to this dinosaur course although he does not teach... His Three hour lectures consist of highlighting your text book. Get ready to teach yourself the entire course! The professor does not give good feedback. Class is not motivating and a waste of time and money
Dr Levine is a good guy. good prof? probably not. He doesn't really teach. He just goes through the book highlights what you need to know and puts on a couple documentaries every now and then. I was excited to take this course, but unfortunately he made it quite boring. Easy A, yes, but if you love dinosaurs stay away
I believe he is a pretty good prof. He has a weak voice, but what he says is clear and concise. He tells you what to study and what to focus on. You do not require a textbook because he provides you with all the notes necessary for the class. Your grade is reflective of your effort. 8/10! I think he's a pretty good prof and knows his stuff.
Although professor Levine is genuinely a nice person, this class is a 'teach yourself course'. He doesn't teach at all. All he does is assign readings and highlight them. There are no powerpoint slides. He also tends to make a lot of mistakes.
Worst prof at york, didnt learn anything about dinosaurs, all the lectures were just highlighting a book. Dont recomend.
Mr. Levine he is not a very enthusiastic person or friendly. Often he would insult the class during a lecture or begin to berate us for something we have no control over. You will have to highlight all class because he does not actually teach anything and you're better off learning them word for word rather than actually studying for the exam.
Lectures are long and boring because he's not enthusiastic enough. You have to teach the material yourself because he just tells you what to highlight in the textbooks. On one hand, it's useful to know exactly what's on the exam but I didn't learn very much from the course overall.
His class was pretty dry, but he tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests and plays some cool movies. Make sure to go to every tutorial because itll really be your TA teaching everything. I recommend paying attention long enough to highlight your course kit and then sleeping through the movies. (Theyre interesting, but... 8:30am...)
This course had so much potential but Prof Levine is extremely dry, and having that class at 8:30 am plus a dry prof equals falling asleep. He did not teach anything, you have to teach yourself because all we did during lecture was highlight the textbook. Tests were also much harder than they should have been for a 3 credit. Wouldn't recommend !!!
Professor Levine is an old, grouchy man who walks around like a vulture. He has his good moments but overall he is dry, angry, and boring. His lecture notes read like an old man sitting in his man cave with a glass of brandy. And you need to do A LOT of self teaching. This class was essentially a boomers philosophy of technology.
Extremely outdated curriculum for a tech course. From him expect confusion & frustration, monotonous, repetitive & pedantic lectures, conjecture, an anti-tech bias, & the teaching of scientifically disproven "facts" (which is very dangerous IMO). Prof Levine is deep down a truly kind and intelligent man, but I just cannot recommend him as a prof.
Don't recommend this Professor at all. Lectures and tests are super content heavy. Too much reading for a 3 credit course. There's an insane amount of memorization that needs to be done. Only good thing is he tells you exactly whats on the exam but too is not enough. Must attend lectures to get all the info. Easy B maybe, but pure torture to get it
Unwelcoming teaching style. Not flexible. Uninterested in changes or suggestions. Does not relay information clearly.
He's kinda rude.
I'm currently in his summer class and he's very unaccommodating. I had trouble following along since I was using an older edition of the textbook because it was cheap and he told me to buy the newest version of the textbook? Like you don't know my financial situation and it's awfully bold of you to assume everyone can just afford it?
Steer clear of Professor Levine if you care about your sanity. He does not teach, be ready to teach yourself. He merely spends all class reading the textbook and highlighting every single page and then telling students to study the highlighted parts for exams. Ridiculous. He is also rude and condescending. If I could I'd give him a 0/5 for sure.
SUPER EASY CLASS! Lectures are just him telling us what to highlight in the readings. Very straight-forward. All lectures were recorded. Gave us the choice of tests or assignments, and for tests he would make a review sheet outlining important topics. Gives hints for questions on tests/exam. Tests mostly m/c and short answer!
DO NOT TAKE IF ONLINE! Maybe be fine in person, but his online class is recordings of a class from who knows how long ago, not one specifically made for Covid. That means people ask questions and you can't hear what they say, only his response. He constantly talks about pictures and diagrams you can not see. AND he gives page numbers we don't have
Honestly, if you read his notes properly you will know that he puts an effort to put everything together. He does not dismiss new ideas but rather challenges them. Although at first, it seems like he's tough but as the course progress you will learn that he will give you enough clue and reviewer to pass the exam.
just take the course with someone else. this course is already so dry and it doesn't help when all he does is read off his notes word for word. he is nice when you talk to him, but he really can't teach. also he never took up the full 3 hours which is ok i guess. also his test questions were always awkwardly written.
for online classes, THIS IS THE WORST PROF EVER! doesn't do zoom meetings and just gives you summaries on the material to read and expect you to learn that way. Not everyone can learn that way and need things like Zoom live meetings or AT LEAST PRE RECORDED lectures... what are we paying tuition for? DONT TAKE
Stay away!! I was so excited to learn about dinosaurs and even fought to get into this course and regretted it 3 weeks in. Lectures are pre-recorded audio from 2017. Everyone in the course (80ish people) got less than 75% on the essay. How???? Need to memorize an insane amount of scientific words.
The online version of this class was super easy, didn't have to watch any lectures, just had to read them and the most important part that we needed to study were already highlighted. We had one course pack to buy, which wasn't a lot and the exams were almost completely multiple choice, so as long as you did the readings, it was very easy.
Basically the day before my quiz that didn't even count and my midterm I ended up driving with no seat belt in hopes that I would not have to do these papers. He is a really tough marker and does not make it easy for you in class AT ALL... sorry please excuse my horrible grammar I am writing this in a rush
We had our final exam in the school tennis field because he forgot to book an exam date. It was also on Christmas eve.
He posts these audio lectures from 2017(YEA NO VISUALS AT ALL) which are useless and basically him lecturing the class at the time. Crazy amount of articles and memorization. Not online friendly. Had 2 tests and an essay. Everyone did SO POORLY on everything. Really hard marker. Kind of unhelpful. Tbh avoid this class, unless you want STRESS&TEARS.
He refused to have online lectures during a pandemic and provided students with old audio lectures from 2013. He does not interact with students at all, we basically taught ourselves. Why bother being a prof if you not going to do your job!?
Easily the laziest professor I've ever had. Not once have we ever had a Zoom call and all he posts are pre-recorded lectures from years back and they're about as useless as you can imagine. Only 1 test, 1 essay and 1 exam and not a single thing was done in the first semester of this course. I would never recommend this course with this professor.
People need to cut this prof more slack. Most of my issues lie with the TA, but Levine is a very knowledgeable man with a real knack for the course materials. A nice man too.
He is the kindest professor I have ever met. He tries to help students to improve their mark kindly. He even summaries the contents in Word document for you. All you have to do for the test is to read the things that are given. Also, it is very amazing to learn knowledge about dinosaurs from the course such as Pterosaur is not dinosaurs in fact
No live zoom lectures and he posts his own class lectures from years back. He does not communicate with his students properly.
this guy provided us with lectures from 2013, refused to host zoom meetings with his class and then disappeared halfway through the semester without marking our essays. we had to go into the exam without knowing what our essay (1 out of the 3 things he needs to mark). would never reccomend
Well, you can see he tries his best to put out written lectures, but he does reuse his audio lectures recorded from 2014. There was never an actual zoom meeting for lectures and what not, but i wish him the best. The course was pretty easy considering he gave us the information every week, but he wasn't very present.
course kit is very important. all readings are fair game for exam. This was a pretty difficult course I would not recommend
You need to know the highlighted reading which he gonna give you a clue before the exam, and you need to know his notes, not a lot of workloads, but he grades very toughly on short answer questions.
This low life has no idea how to teach a class and is lazy in every way. He treats all of his students unfairly and provides absolute no effort to actually teaching cores content
Okay, so I have no idea where to start. For the big test, he will tell you to highlight... everything. You will need to know everything and he posts old lectures. I would never take him again. This test is worth 25% and after reading further into it I chose to withdraw instead of having it affect my gpa.
He uses extremely boring audio lectures that are insanely long. I just didn't understand the course concept at all.
This guy takes the fun topic of dinosaur extinction and makes it boring and monotonous by teaching it in the absolute worst possible way. He doesn't teach you material he just tells you to highlight readings. The absolute worse professor I have ever had.
He does not teach the course, he tells you to highlight readings. It blows my mild that he can take an exciting topic and make it so mind numbingly boring.
All online and rlly outdated w tech
Because of covid was totally online, no live lectures he posted only audio recordings from him giving a lecture back in 2018. No PowerPoints or visuals, could not even listen to the lectures I fell asleep. I took this class because it was said to be an easy credit, nope i was wrong. Never gave back anything at a reasonable time. don't do it.
Shares audio recordings from 6 years ago, makes you read articles instead of teaching you personally. Tests are not like he discusses. Is not willing to help you.
His recorded lectures were very difficult to understand, so I didn't watch most of them. I studied all of the articles, but the exam was very difficult; some of the questions didn't make sense. The essay assignment was also difficult because I struggled to find sources for my topic.
Do not take this course!!! very boring and Ta's are marking so harshly. exams are so hard and boring. It was really hard for me to keep up eventhough I was trying to listen to all the lectures and highlight important parts in the book still couldn't succeed to get a good mark!
Robert did nothing the entire course, not to mention the textbook (written by Robert) was a couple of articles he copy-pasted into a book and sold as a textbook. His TA , Angela, communicated with us. Lecture recordings are from 2010. Horrible quality. Entire class was disappointed. Steer clear of this course
The class had really interesting content. If you are a Star Trek or science fiction fan (as prof Levine apparently is), you will probably like this course. He provides a detailed write up of all key lecture points for almost every lecture, which is super convenient. There are just 2 exams and 1 short essay, so it's not a lot of work. Great class!
Robert Levine is strongly influenced by his former qualifications as a lawyer, he is very fond of indulging in his own logical deductions. This does not include his condescending attitude. This class is like a skunk that hides in your home for an entire semester, affecting your mood every day and releasing an unending stream of stench.
Not what I expected at all. There is very little science involved. Because the course is always discussing philosophy, sociology, psychology, and economics. And the content of the course is organized from the professor's subjective ideas. The name of the course should be changed to "Dr. Levin's new philosophy of technology".
I took this class a few years ago. It's nice to know that nothing has changed with this prof. Oh, my days everything that has been pointed out about him was exactly what I experienced when I was in York. Please do yourself a favour and not take this course with him until he retires and a new professor can take over. What shame.
I wouldn't recommend taking NATS 1540 with Levine. There's better NATS courses to take. The exams aren't really intended to test your knowledge, it just to see if they can trick you with the multiple choice. If you do take it though, I highly recommend to stick to lecture notes. Good luck!
Reused lecture content from 2013 in his 2021 asynchronous class. Had TA's that weren't familiar with the course material. Told us not to email him but to call the listed phone number if we had questions, when we called he made us feel stupid for trying to get in touch since it was an asynchronous course. No office hours. Generally rude.
