Okay, if you hate LONG TESTS DROP THIS CLASS.....his tests are 7 pages long, and his FINAL!!! OMG......like 15 pages!!!!!!!!!!I managed to get a B, but you have to study.....and work hard.....people who did the work, and didnt study managed to get a D.

Dr. Liddiard is an excellent professor and was always available to clarify and answer questions I had about the class. He posed questions and made students think about the material rather than just lecture. I really learned a lot from this class and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the subject and willing to work hard.

This guy is awesome. His personality is so great; you'd love to listen to him. He was always in a good mood..no matter what happened to him..so that always put a smile on my face. His midterms and finals are very hard...but dont worry. He's very understanding. His quizzes are VERY easy as long as you attend the class everyday and listen to him.

he states the first day that you will get at least a C in the class. show up and you will pass. if you are looking for a higher grade, then you must do a lot of work. his main tests were pretty difficult. must know material to get an A

Professor Liddiard is one of the best professors I've taken at GCC. He's very clear on his lectures and he tries to make everything interesting. He's funny too! Only thing is that there is a quiz every week. I learned a lot in his class and I'm going to major in linguistics. TAKE HIM!

Amazing. I'm in the first set of core classes for Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology at CSUN now, and we still haven't come across something that I didn't already learn from Dr. Liddiard. Sure, his class was hard work: to succeed you must read, attend class, listen, participate, etc. But Dr. Rob does his best to make it fun and relevant. Loved it!

Dr. Rob is one of the clear and helpful professors will ever take. He explains very well the material, everyone get to practice prononciation of French words and short sentences.I took his French 101 class at GCC and I was extremely happy with the manner and the quality of his teaching. Mandatory attendance.I got an A. Low use of textbook in class.

Great teacher, goes over material more than once, and puts in the extra time to make sure you get it. But don't expect not to do quality work. He has a great sense of humor and his lectures are fun if you're serious about the material. You'll learn a lot but you'll have to be prepared to work. But that said, he is fair.

A really cool guy. Class was very funny and easy too, while still learning a good amount about linguistics. A very huge curve class by the end of the semester with how many opportunities he gives you for points.

Dr. Liddiard is one of the most talented & experienced instructors out there. He is underused at Glendale College. A fantastic person, makes the class interesting, KNOWS French inside and out; I thoroughly enjoyed this class and fully recommend him to others. I wish I could take another class with him.

Dr.Rob is by far the best French teacher I've ever had. I've taken french in private schools, as well as three years in high school, and I can honestly say that he surpasses them all. The way in which he explains concepts and introduces the language is logical and effective. I would definitely recommend his class!

He is the best instructor EVER in all ways. Not only does he teach very clear and makes learning a new language quite fun, but also he has a HUGE heart and loves what he is doing. Wonderful teacher! You learn so much in this class. He recommends reading the book before you cover a unit. The book can be confusing at times, but when he explains, it's crystal clear. Quizzes and tests are purely based off of what he says in class (everything is on moodle). 10 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 research paper and 1 final. Lots of extra credit

I loved this class. It was hard, yes. Especially the tests. But if you study diligently you'll be fine. And he is always available during office hours. Quizzes every thursday, so if you miss lecture tuesday the quizzes will be harder. He is so funny, especially when you learn about profanity. I'll miss him.

He's the best teacher ever. Really. He always explained everything so well that I never had to study outside of class. His pretest packets pretty much explain war you need to know. Just show up, listen and participate and you'll have an A. Dr. Rob is truly an amazing teacher and person altogether. I'd retake his class anyway.

Wonderful lectures, amazing personality, but his tests are rough. I got a B, and it is what it is. I would still recommend him though because his lectures will worth all the hard work put into the class.

He's just a wonderful person. He cares about his students and his lectures. He is always prepared for class and he gives you lecture nots each class (both hardcopies and soft copies on moodle) which are all you need to prep for his quizzes and tests. He gives lots of extra credit too. I HIGHLY recommend him. I learned so much in this class.

He logically and efficiently organizes the contents of the course. As he lectures, he relates the topics to everyday circumstances or provides concrete examples that are applied to languages. Because he truly has a love for languages, he has many stories to tell as well as interesting ways to introduce new topics. Time flies in in his class!

Even though linguistics overall is a challenging topic, this teacher is very generous with his information including his notes. You definitely have to work hard in this class. But if you need Linguistics, you should take it with this professor at GCC.

Dr. Rob does his best to make the class interesting. He teaches at a college level, which can be challenging but prepares you for what's to come when you transfer. He gives you extra credit if you do the homework and the points add up at the end of the semester. He also has notes for every chapter on moodle. I really enjoyed his class.

One of the best professors at Gcc. There will be unit quiz every week, which scared me at first, but trust me you will be glad later when you study for mid term and final. He is very clear and uploads lecture notes on moodle, which is VERY helpful. If you are lazy, don't take him, but if you want to learn, he is the best choice for you

This class is by no means easy, but Dr. Rob more than gives you the things you need to get an A. The weekly quizzes are tough, but he posts the notes on Moodle for you to study and prepare (almost word for word what he lectures in class!). Just make sure you review your notes and ATTEND EVERY CLASS and there's no reason you shouldn't pass.

Dr. Liddiard is one of the BEST professors at GCC. Each class I went to I looked forward to hearing his lectures and understanding the beautifully complex world of Linguistics that he made so clear. Although it was a challenging class, it was also the most gratifying - ALL thanks to his patience and helpfulness in wanting each student to succeed!

Dr Rob is one of the best professors in GCC, I had ESL 151 in winter, Just do whatever he asks you to do then you can have an easy A , He gives enough time for every assignment and research paper. He is caring, nice and kind , You will never regret taking his class. I wish he would teach Eng 101 for Spring , Not much homework , Dr Rob is the BEST.

Have had several ESL teachers in the last two years. I was not able to write a proper English essay until I took ESL 151 with Doctor Rob. He will explain step by step how to write a 151 /101 level essay with a clear outline and many practices. He is caring and will make sure that students understand the point. I have gained more skills in writing.

I've taken 3 other language classes (my major) and Dr. Rob is the best. He places an equal emphasis on reading, grammar, listening, speaking, etc. You must study to do well. Want an easy A or refuse to put in 10 hrs a week? Take someone else. I go to COC and I've elected to take him for French 102 and Ling 101 at GCC, that's how effective he is.

11 units with a quiz for each unit, midterm, RP, & final. Offers extra credit by doing some ?s at the end of the chapter. You dont need the book - its all in the lectures. To do the EC you do need the book, but the library has it. Quiz every Thursday that covers most of Tuesday's material so be sure to attend class. Overall funny & caring guy.

He is the absolute best. He is just so easy to relate to and just makes his lectures really easy to listen to. He cares A TON how people do in his class and articulates everything that is on the quizzes during the lectures as well as puts all the info on canvas. To be honest I was kind of bummed when the class ended. 10/10

Dr. Rob is the most caring professor I've ever met. You'll be laughing half his class but also learning at the same time. He really knows what he's teaching. I was taking this course to merely fill my credits but now I love linguistics! His class was the only class I looked forward to. I'm sad this class is ending. I will be forever grapefruit.

I miss him and his class so much! I took his course years ago prior to transferring. To this day he's one of the best and most memorable professors I've had. Not an easy A if you're not already fluent in French but he teaches really well.

This is for the Winter 6 week course. It was tough with a ton of material to memorize every night for a quiz everyday. As long as you try, you will get at least a C. Getting an A is possible but you need time to study for this condensed and fast course. He offers Extra Credit too. He's very passionate, funny, and just a great professor overall!

Good professor but linguistics is hard take another GE if your major does not require it.

Linguistics is not easy. If youd rather take less demanding classes, then think twice about taking this class. However, if youre really interested in linguistics, Dr. Rob is the guy to learn from. He is very enthusiastic about the material that he teaches and you can tell that he genuinely loves it. Great professor, just that the subject is hard.

I took ESL151 and both French101 and 102 with Dr Rob, and it was an amazing experience. He is incredibly nice and highly organized person, caring about his students. Dr Rob spent a lot of his time helping us make our research papers better. Very fair grader. For ESL151, textbooks were not mandatory, and for French, you can buy cheap old editions.

Show up in every class and participate. Make sure to spend time outside of class to study. The tests are kind of hard so you need to work for an A. He is hilarious and makes the lectures interesting. You will learn a lot from him so definitely take his class !!!

His determination and efforts to help students succeed is beyond words. Although students lag behind and don't understand his lectures in his French class sometimes, he always repeats what he's said to ensure that students understand the material. He is also really caring outside the class and helps studentswith class, homework and assignments.

I'm currently enrolled in Dr. Robs French 101 coarse and honestly think this is the best professor I've ever had. He is so understanding and communicates clearly with all students. Although it is a tough time for all at the moment, especially for him also, he always manages to uplift the mood during lecture. Honestly one of the best professors ever

I'm in Dr. Robs French class at GCC and could not speak more highly about this professor. He truly cares about his students and is clear, repetitive and flexible with all. I was sad to hear that they discontinued his French class at GCC but if you ever get the opportunity to sign up for his class, Take it! Great teacher and a kind personality.

Dr. Rob is the absolute sweetest! His notes cover everything on the quizzes and exams, and the weekly zoom sessions he does for online classes help tremendously. He has a lot to say and it may seem overwhelming at times, but it stays engaging and fun. It's on the heavier side of 3 units, 8-10hrs a week to really succeed, but it's definitely doable.

I took Dr. Rob's ling 101 class before covid hit and it was my favorite class and to this day my favorite professor I've ever had. He truly cares about his students and his lectures are engaging so if you are ever confused or need help with something, he is always more than willing to help. You will truly not regret taking this class and professor.

Easily one of the most hardest classes I have taken as a community college. The professor is nice and gives you an opportunity to retake your quiz for average score which is nice because the course is filled with a lot of lecture heavy material and studying just try your best and you will do well. Also, a benefit an A total grade is a 87.5%.
