Took this course online and he was TERRIBLY UNCLEAR about due dates and every time ANYONE tried to get in touch with him we were all ignored for weeks at a time. It took him 3 weeks to answer any of my emails, when he did it was too late. TERRIBLE TEACHER, take someone else if possible
this is the worst teacher i have ever had in my history of TCC....DO NOT TAKE HIM... he is hard and his test ?'s are difficult!! take goen or connoly!
took him online....HE SUCKS... hard test questions in deed!!! never gets back to your emails or deletes them if they are titled wrong!!
avoid if possible.

Dr. Rainard does everything he can to get his students passionate about history. He sings, dances, jumps on tables, he does it all! His tests are very hard, but worth it in the end when you realize he can actually teach. I'm taking him next semester.
AWEFUL!!!! DO NOT RECOMMEND. QUIZZES ARE VERY DIFFICULT. DOES NOT RESPOND TO E-MAILS IN A TIMELY MANNER, VERY SLOW IN POSTING GRADES AND NOT VERY CLEAR IN WHAT HE WANTS FROM YOU. STAY AWAY, TAKE CONNOLY!!!
Mr. Rainard is a good professor to me. I enjoyed history for a change. He did not make the class to hard. I had a B.
I had him for US His Part 2, he was much more interesting than the professor I had for Part 1. He does jump on desks and make you sing Follow The Yellow Brick Road; it keeps you awake in an 8 AM History class though. Essays on tests are tough, but he gives you study guide and the test ?s come from it word for word. I got an A & never read the book.
Energetic, exciting and attached to helping his students learn history. The best I've ever had at Tidewater Community College. He is a little outrageous, and some higher ups seem to dislike he high expectations of students. But he cares about his subject and his students. So what really matters?
He is fair and helpful. I take his internet course and it has been wonderful. If you take the quizzs and study those before you take the test you are good. Same questions...can't go wrong.
Great Professor very helpful. Tests were taken directly from quizzes. Very clear syllabus and due dates. I took him for two semesters 121-122 and had a great time. Very good sense of humor and very helpful.
Took online course w/ him. Good professor seemed really interested in the subject. Quiz questions were word for word from the book, and test questions were taken right from the quizzes. So easy class if you don't mind some reading! However, extremely, extremely slow in answering emails and updating grades. (Too much on his plate possibly??)
Interesting class. If you take good notes and know how to complete essays with the right information you'll do well. If you suck at essays, you will not do so well.
Crazy as they come. Witty, funny, makes history come to life. Goes over the top, sometimes, but you just wait for the moment. Everyone should take this calss.
Took the online version. He seemed to have spent a lot of time creating the course on blackboard. Fun class. Study the quizes! They are just like the tests. He is a man; his name just happens to by Lynn.
Professor Rainard is dedicated, interesting, and fair. He is the best of the best! I would recommend his classes to everyone!
Very easy tests, wording comes directly from the book. Online tests are very easy...gives plenty of time to sit open with book. Needs to learn to use spell check on e-mails. Almost seems like he **** typing some messages.
GREAT GUY, CLASS IS SO EASY IF YOU APPLY YOURSELF. EASIEST CLASS SO FAR!
I took his HIS 122/122 courses online, both 8 week sessions. Just take both your quizzes a week and do 1 post per week you'll do fine. Exams are super easy if you study the quiz questions. I studies the night before for all his exams and always got either a 96 or a 98 on them. He's pretty good w/ communication. I hated history until his class.
I found this online class easy and interesting.
Rainard the Fox is one crazy guy! He loves History and it shows in his class. You put in the work you get the grade. Its just that easy. Take him, you wont regret it!
I hate History, but this professor laid down the laws and didn't make the rules hard to follow. I enjoyed this class because their wasn't lots of work and the curriculum was very easy to follow. Nice guy and enjoy teaching the subject.
EASY EASY EASY, took both 121 & 122 online eight week sessions. It takes a day or two to get used to how he sets up blackboard but just do the practice quizzes, actual quizzes, and post once a week and you have a perfect A. Study the quizzes before the test you'll be in & out of the testing lab in 5 minutes with a 100 on the test.
Great prof. filled with enthusiasm and empathy for his students.
For 121 and 122 He is extremely easy. The graded quizzes and tests come directly from optional practice ones so you never even really have to read the main book except to post discussions. It is easy to guarantee an A.
took online history. blackboard is veeeery confusing. different due dates posted. doesnt respond quickly to emails. not good if you want an easy A for history.
He does a high-wire act in every class. Don't be stunned if he lectures on helium, from table tops, or hugs you. He seems to love is students andis over the top about history. As fair and fun as they come, but I do wonder if anyone can have than many zanny personalities and still wihtout being institutionalized. Take him, you will love it.
He keeps from falling asleep even after a long night out. It's like he is on stage and if you don't pay attention you will miss why we are learning history or, sometimes, a trash can goes flying across the room! I've never had a teacher as willing to talk about American racial issues and to make it seems so fair and easy to discuss.
EXCEPTIONALLY EASY,ONLINE, CLASS TO FOLLOW, AND DO UTILIZE THE EDUSPACE PROGRAM AS INSTRUCTED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CLASS. IT ENSURES AN EASY AND SMOOTH SEMESTER! TRUST ME!
He's sort of eccentric. Like jumps up on desks and stuff. Really animated. Very entertaining. You need to invest a little time in reading the long chapters for the mandatory chapterly quizes, but those were pretty easy. Pay attention and take good notes bc he looks for particular things in the take home essays that may not be in the book
Good but feel silly
He has a very simple easy class for his online classes. He gives a quiz every week that is fairly easy (eduspace offered helps a lot) and a discussion board every other week. He offers plenty of extra credit and his midterm and final are from the quiz's. Should be an easy A!
BAD TEACHER! very unprofessional and very unorganized! blames everything on students. jumps around with lecture hard to take accurate notes. Attacks students. calls them disappointing, irresponsible, etc. avoid his class.
Mr. Rainard's online class was fairly simple (I came out with a C, usually an A student- you really just have to stay organized or you'll forget that you have an assignment due). He makes stuff due at the same time each week, so it's easy to get into a schedule of when you complete your work. You can tell he's really funny, even over the internet.
Cool guy. Keeps you interested in history. He challenges you to think and has a fun, strange sense of humor. Don't know why some don't like him, unless they are lazy or the one who told me he got caught cheating. He actually took the time to talk to me after my b-friend dumped me. He seemed to care.
Great class, but I wanted a higher grade. He makes you work for what you get. One coomplained to me he failed because he cheated on an exam. Looser. Dr. Rainard is funny and really likes his students. He took time to talk to me after my b-friend dumped me. He seemed to care. I recommend him to everyone--hever hear a bad word about him.
Dr. Rainard class wasnt bad at all to me. I had him for two straight semester 121 and 122. I must admit it's alot of chapter reading, especially if you plan on taking his class online. I passed him with a B. Highly Recommended!
I took this class online. Dr. Rainard was very helpful, but harsh at the same time. I loved everything. The main thing is not be late with quizzes and essays. I recommend this professor to everyone.
Good lecturer, cares for students, a little on the crazy sied.
Good class, good guy, cares takes time to learn about class.
Ok. doesnt involve students just lectures
took class online, quizzes once a week plus d/b every other week. grades them hard... only good thing study your quizzes same thing for mid and final
Good prof. Discouraged by my lame classmates
I took HIS121 & HIS122 online and it was an easy A. In HIS121 we had to take a quiz and write an essay every week. In HIS122 we took a weekly quiz and wrote four essays total. The essays cannot be handed in late because the discussion board will be closed after the due date. The questions in the mid-term and final come from the weekly quizzes.

Great Professor...Study the guide for practice quizzes and you will be fine...I got an A in his class....
Good guy, frustrated by my classmates refusal to work. He really seems to care about students and gave me lots of time.
Class is very easy if yor read the chapters...and the chapters a long!! But if you are taking this class on line you know what you are doing, and you can get ahead. He gives lots of chances for extra credit. His initial requirements are crazy. So take about an hour and get it done. The rest is gravy. He is kinda wordy, but it was an ok class.
Prof. Rainard is decent enough. I got off to a really rocky start (very quick due dates!) but after I figured it out- easy A.. as long as you put in the time!! And I mean like 6-8 hours a week. His class is very cumbersome but concept is really easy. Quiz questions are after quite tricky but exams come directly from quizzes.
Professor Rainard's class is easy IF you follow his instructions step-by-step. Read a chapter, take a practice quiz, take test, read online study guide - simple. The tests make up the exam and there are 3 essays (he drops the lowest score.) I appreciated the chance to finish my work early and earn extra credit for doing so. Loved the class!
He's an okay teacher however he promotes you doing the work. You will definitely have to read, take the practice quizzes, and the weekly quizzes and you'll be good. I didnt care for him in the beginning of the class however over time he eventually got a little better. If you take him you will need to be on your "A" game.
Took HIS 121 & 122 online 8wks. theres a LOT of reading. You are allowed to take the practice quizzes as many times as needed. there are 2wkly test, but they come directly from practice quiz. testing center is req for midterm& final. Study the weekly tests for Midterm & Final...EASY A. 3 essays (300 words), he drops the lowest1. easy enough for8 wk
Great teacher! I loved his class and am taking him again for 122. If you follow his directions you will get an easy "A". Would recommend him to everyone!!
A little over the top but really helpful and interested in students.
This is a great online History Class. It is straight and clean. Follow the directions and I don't see how you cannot get an A. It is college, so yes, you have to read and yes, you have to write a paper :)
Never had a prof so interested in my success. Regular email reminders and encouragement. Seems dedicated to students. Class clear, made me think about history and why we need it. Has strange sence of humor, but funny.
Never had a prof so interested in my success. Regular email reminders and encouragement. Seems dedicated to students. Class clear, made me think about history and why we need it. Has strange sence of humor, but funny. Can't believe I earned 3 credits in 8 weeks and still managed to earn a B.
I took Professor Rainard for both 111 and 112 and am so glad I did. He is methodical with the assignments and test, which was helpful. His practice tests include the questions on the tests but you must study all of the questions and know the material. Put the reading time in and not only will you receive a great grade but you?ll also learn!
TAKE HIM! I took both HIS 111 & 112 DYNAMIC online. He's GREAT! Straight foward, the exams come from the quizzes,he posts practice quizzes that you can take repeatedly. All you have to do is read and study. You will have to complete essays. I wish every professor was this cut and dry. He's a great! No way to do poorly!
I took this teacher for 2 semesters, History 121 and 122. There is an unreasonable amount of homework in an unreasonable time frame.I would like to say that he is a good teacher but he is very particlular with his control and power over his students and this will show on some of the students grades.
Online: Weekly Quiz questions come word for word from the practice quizzes. You can take the practice quizzes as many times as you want. Exam questions come word for word from the weekly quizzes. Very time consuming, and requires 3 other essay/discussion board assignments. Again, very time consuming, but easy to get a near perfect grade.
Most annoying teacher I swear! He emails everyday. For ex. he will email you Tues and the assignment wont be due for another 3 days, but because its not done sooner he will state that you need to work out your priorities. He expects the class to revolve around him. Also heavy course load. Dont expect an A if you are taking other course, and work
Cares very much about success of students. I took the class online, it was very straightforward. Weekly quizzes that come straight from practice quizzes and midterm and final exam that come straight from weekly quizzes. 3 essays, lowest grade of the 3 is dropped. Constant email reminders to keep you on track. Very great teacher!
He is eager for student success. Expects students for read syllabus and follow it. Reasonable in a strange sort of way. I almost like him. Love the class, though.
Loved this professor! Gave lots of background to help you understand more.
He obvouisly knows the material. I took it online. He responded to my e-mails always seeming annoyed and instead of answering my questions yes or no. He would respond- look on his website. Which, in the long run, took more time to type than yes or no. I wouldn't take him again or at least online.
Some students seem frustrated that he encourages us to be "active learners," as he put it. Quickly learned to do the required reading before asking questions. Never had a teacher more engaged in an online class, sending emails encourging me to learn. Everyone should follow his example. Besides that, for an old guy he is hot.
OMG, totally organized! Never saw online laid out to where I knew exactly what to do every week. Awesome. He sends emails several times weekly to keep us going and staying focused on learning. Did practice quizzes, graded quizzes and actually earned 100 points for each of the two exams. Classmates who didn't like the reminders should study
I loved the class. It is true that if you just follow the syllabus guide there is no way to fail. I only wish I had not taken the excelerated course because I feel like it was rushed thru and I would have liked to go more into depth.
Prof Rainard is awesome! I took the accelerated online course. There is a lot of work but he gives you everything you need to be successful. I highly recommend his courses, I am taking another one now.
I took the online class. Very organized, very clear. He lets you know exactly what he wants when he wants it. As long as you keep to his study guide plan, it's an easy A. Definitely taking 122 with him, as well.
I took the online class. Prof Rainard is very responsive and his class is laid out so well that he takes you step by step to an A.
I took it online. Easy A!!! Hardest part were the essays which were kind of unclear. Would take him again!
I took the class in 8 weeks online. Labor intensive, but had no problems keeping up, or ahead of assignments as he does release some info a few days early, which was helpful. The regular emails helped keep me motivated. Practice quizzes helped a great deal in preparing for weekly chapter quizzes.
Took the 5 week session over the summer (121 & 122 back to back) and while I did a lot of work, I found a was able to develop a real interest in history. It's wonderful having a professor that is sincerely interested in your success. Keep up with the reading, do the quizzes and papers on time and you can't go wrong.
Online. Very organized. Read chap each week. Practice 50 question quiz until ace. Take 15 q. subset for graded quiz. 2 50q. exams come from graded quizzes. Exams proctored. 3 discussion boards, top 2 grades are kept. A lot of extra credit opportunities. Excellent online professor.
Dr. Rainard is one of the best online professors I have had so far. His history clas was the only required history I needed, but am returning for HIS122 to satisfy a Humanities requirement because of him and his teaching styel. Very reposnsive to emails, and extremely encourageing to us in wanting our success.
Took him for both HIS 121 & 122. Loved him. He drove me crazy a little bit with all the emails but I learned not to take them personally. Very clear in what he expects and if you follow the course outline you should have no problem receiving an A. I wish he taught more of my online classes. If you have the opportunity, do not hesitate to take him.
Easy enough for an online college course. Weekly quizzes that come from the practice quizzes, which then come together to form the midterm and final exams. 3 short essays to write, which really do help you learn more about the subject. Replies to emails on a timely manner. Overall great class. A+
This class was very informative and easy with an awesome professor. I took HIS 121 and HIS 122 online due to my busy schedule.
Great class, very prompt to respond to questions and or concerns, very prompt with grading, overall great professor, I have already enrolled in HIS 122. I also took the online course due to work schedule.
I took the 16wk course, aside from 3 writing assignments that were required to be a minimum of 400 words, the class was simple. You read the chapter and take a 50 question practice quiz as many times as you need to. the 15 question regular quiz comes from the 50 question practice quiz. Midterm and Final questions come directly from regular quiz.
I took this class online. As long as you stay on task and on schedule you should do very well. Really not a hard class at all. Also he does respond to emails in a timely fashion. And he does give alternate dates for exams to help those who work or need child care.
History is not a subject I have enjoyed in the past. You definitely have to read the text book, but because of that I learned history and enjoyed it. Dr. Rainard is a wonderful teacher and very helpful and responsive. If you follow his directions you will receive an A
If you want easy cheesy, this may not be for you. Dr. Rainard desires that you actually learn the material and be engaged in the class. But if you are not interested in doing that, then you should go run a jackhammer somewhere and forget about college. Easily one of the best courses and instructors I have ever taken. Clear, concise and endearing.
If you want to take a history class, actually learn stuff, and enjoy it then this is the instructor for you. he keeps it fun and interesting with fun facts and interesting information. you will need to read the textbook but i think overall the class is great :)
Took his 8 week class and got an A+. Each chapter has a practice quiz that you can take multiple times, 15 question graded quiz comes directly from the practice quiz, and the 2 exams come directly from the graded quizzes. Three 400 word discussion posts. (lowest grade dropped) TIP-Print out the graded quizzes to study for the exams.
This class is easy if u have time. all u have to do is the 2 quizzes a week but its practice quizzes to both quizzes. This man gives out way to much info and too many emails. u also have like 4 small writing assignments but he grades them hard, but dont be alarmed, u can pass this class with a easy A. the test are straight from the quizzes
He is really involved in this class, more than most online professors. It's like having a personal assistant reminding what needs to be done and then cheering you. He sends out a couple of email reminders weekly, requires reading a chapter, study guide and taking a quiz. Grades from from quizzes, exams and writing a assignments. He cares.
This guy is really involved with his students. He returns emails quickly, answered all my questions, and send frequent reminders of upcoming assignments. He really got me excited about history. Thank's Prof. R!
This class is super easy! You also learn! The hardest part were the wrtiting assignments, but if you did your quiz before Monday at 4 you earned extra credit. Definetly take him! I took it online!
Professor Rainard was very encouraging and interested in how you did. I took the class online but he doesn't ignore you as some instructors might. He keeps in touch with students. The hardest thing was writing, if he didn't see the relationship he was looking for your grade reflected it.
There were moments I struggled to keep up,but Prof. R was always there with words of encouragement. I followed his detailed study guide and couldn't help but laugh at his corny characters, but they all helped me get through the class. Wish all my online classes were this well organized with professors who tracked my learning. Txks.
Great Professor, sticks to the syllabus, always gives responses to questions in a timely manner. I must say he is the best professor that I have had since attending TCC,and I doubt I will be able to say that about others. TAKE THIS CLASS especially if you are taking online classes.
Great teacher!!! Lots of instructor provided material. Engaged in the student learning process. best online classes I have taken so far out of 10
Dr. Rainard does an excellent job of making history interesting. You definitely have to read the text but you learn so much.He makes it possible for everyone to make an A, just follow his syllabus. I just took him for 121 and 122 and if he taught Western Civ, I'd take him for that too!
Professor Rainard is an awesome instructor. His primary goal is to equip his students with the necessary tools for learning, which are useful in the classroom as well as in life. This class requires a lot of studying but the reward is complimentary. If you want to learn - choose Professor Rainard.
He was extremely informative and I enjoyed his class. I learned a lot during the progress of this course. I have recommended him to others.
Dr. Rainard is the best online instructor I have had. He has a clear to understand webpage, great reference materials, and his expectations are clear - follow his instructions & you will do great. He is also very responsive to posting grades, and replying to emails. He genuinely wants his students to succeed and is so encouraging all semester!
Overall, Mr. Rainard is an exceptional professor. I had him Fall and Spring semester and I am very please and honored to be one of his students. Well organized and he keep constant communication and also very efficient. He is the best professor ever. I do not feel lost under his class. He guided us from the beginning through the end.
Please take this class. I took this course online and enjoyed it very much. It is surprising how much you actually learn from an online history course. If you don't mind some weekly homework then this is the course for you! Easy A if you do the work!
I was not a fan of his numerous and exceptionally long emails, his class website or the (5) cartoon characters who spoke broken english from various countries that he used to augment his already excessive amounts of communication. My other classmates seemed to enjoy his class; so hopefully I am among the minority.
Professor Rainard has a unique approach to teaching online. Sometimes it was very intense (5 week course) but his straight forward and responsive style made it easier. You have to put in the time, follow instructions and study, if you can’t then don’t take the class.
First online professor to convince me he cared about my success. Every few days he sent an email with updates, instructions and encouragement, and I mean encouragement. Saw one student complain that it was too much. Just right for me and I earned an A with his encouragement and feedback. Wow, I got more from him than from my in class profs.
Great Professor, I am happy to say that I have him again for HIS 122 the second 5 week course. He is understanding and willing to help out at a moments notice and he answers emails in a timely fashion, same day actually. Great Professor who did an awesome job. Thank You Professor Rainard.
Class was very straight forward and I always knew my standing in the class
I wish all my professors had the same attitude. He wants you to learn.
One of the very best professors. He made learning history interesting. This was a very intense 5 week online class, and his emails gave encouragement at the times my energy and stamina were low. Clear outline, clear deadlines, willing to help, xtra credit opportunities, posts grades fast so you always know your standing. I highly recommend!!!
HIS 121...Very easy!! Got an A with minimal effort. I will take him next semester for 122. I'm in no way interested in history and still know nothing about it but I got that A
My best online experience at TCC. Dr. R stayed involved in every activity, watched over me to make sure I was progressing. Did not cut any slack. Anyone who did not learn from the class is not involved in learning. Recommend this class to everyone. Textbook, study guide, web links, quizzes, essays and exams required.
Prof. Rainard was an over all "interesting" teacher... He really loves History and it shows. His teaching method took some getting use to, but very effective none the less. Now that the class has just finished, I honestly feel a little sad. Odd to say about a class, but I guess it's safe to say the class was actually fun and interesting..
Best History teacher ever... Easy A! I took his class online.
15 question weekly quiz (exam questions come from this) but easily completed due to practice quiz. Must do the reading and 3 essays (takes top 2 grades). Prof Rainard is passionate about teaching and history! He keeps you engaged and inspires you to find success. Great course!
AWESOME GRASP OF SUBJECT AND IS VERY CLEVER IN PRESENTING...
GREATEST DECIESON EVER MADE! take this class if you have hard time understanding history. No text books, very personable professor that will assure you an A with a little effort of your own. He is very helpful and got great sense of humor! Take it :)
He made me work for my grade, but was fair and kept in touch with weekly emails of encouragement. I was especially touched when he sent an end of the semester email personally congratulating me on my hard work and class success, and gave me confidence I will do well in all my future classes. Course used internet sources rather than a textbook.
Prof. Rainard inspired me to work hard in his class. His regular email reminders and "pokes" when I vanished for a week kept me on track when life at home became a pain. I never realized how important studying history was for understanding what is going on in our country. He made it all seem relevant, unlike my past classes. Thank you doc.
Prof. Rainard is a great teacher. There is a lot of assigned reading to the course and there are a few assignments you have to participate it to get full credit. Mainly discussion on the forums type stuff. Everything you submit is returned with feedback for improvement. Class is easy as long as you put forth some effort.
Wow, awesome! No doubt, I had to work for my grade, but he was always there encouraging the class. He responds within a day, provides detailed explanations for historical issues, and he really inspired me to understand our country. God bless him!
I signed up for the class after reading that Dr. R wants you to learn and be a success. He engages you from day 1 of the class, and sent reminders the one week I fell behind. He kept telling me I could be a success. Expectations were clear and assignments graded quickly. Tony says, "he's great!"
Doc. Rainard is good. His online class is clear and easy to follow. He seems to genuinely care about his students. I wasn't happy when the class started, but after giving him an call and talking for nearly an hour my opinion changed! He loves history, knows his stuff, and really expressed interest in my success. But he does make you work.
My biggest problem with this teacher is the course load and the small amount of time he gives you to complete assignments. He told us we had a week to read and complete our very first quiz, but counted the start of that week prior to the start date of the class. He seems to think this class is the only important thing happening in your life.
I loved this class and this teacher. Yes, it is a difficult class, so if you're just looking for an easy A or minimal work, this class isn't for you. I took this class online. History is not a strong subject for me, however this professor and this class did teach me a lot. Very Recommended!
Dr Rainard wasn't a bad teacher. I walked away from the class with a lot more information regarding US History then I came in with. That being said it was hard to have a clear view of his expectations on essay assignments and essay questions. Don't slack off in his class because you can't. If you're willing to work for it, take his class.
This class as a whole was not terrible. I did find previous rates for it to be inaccurate though. Weekly quizzes are okay, possible extra credit for completing them early. Midterm and Final are directly from these quizzes so save them and study! Gives CIA assignments which grading criteria is not specific but he grades very tough. 1st B I ever had.
Interesting professor. He makes you work for the grade, but the instructions he gives you are excellent. You get 9 days to complete every assignment. Sometimes the instructions are challenging since you have to reply to classmates as if you are in a real classroom. I went in with the idea that online didn't require any effort. Did I learn!
8wk course. 2 quiz, 1 DB w/ 2 reps/week. The textbook is provided online, but that isn't clear until the class starts. The week is Sun-Thurs. Assignments open the previous Wed, but working full time 12 hour days, it's difficult to meet his outrageous due dates/times. You have to do the reading, and he requires very specific DB. Practice quizzes.
weekly quizzes, 1DB(150) with 2 comments to peers (150 min). The textbook is hard to find information on. He's strict on how you answer DBs and essay questions on the quizzes. Midterm is all based on essay questions and some multiple choice. Whoever rated him for difficulty is completely off. He's nice but he is very anal on grading.
I would be surprised if anyone received a perfect score are any assignment. Does not matter how good you think your answer is. He will give you partial credit then ask more question which try to get you the right answer. But you will still not get it right on the final. Final and Mid-term are no notes, books or internet. Good luck if you choose.
My goal is learning and Prof. R delivers. He is demanding, but he really cares about his students. He pushed me to be a better student this semester. I'll put the study habits to good use next semester!
Clear study guides are provided weekly and grading rubrics for discussions/essays. His emails drone on about how much he wants us to succeed and he answered my email amazingly fast. He makes history come alive to me but some complain he requires us to work hard. I'd take him again and believe success in his class prepares me for success in others
My hardest teachers to date. He asks a lot of his students and expects them to work for the right answers. He will give feedback and let you know how to improve your next score, but will not change a graded item. COMPLETE THE STUDY GUIDES! I made my own study guide for the exams from the practice quizzes he gives weekly, and it REALLY helped.
Sends weekly emails encouraging success. Received one group message stating, "don't give up on yourself, I will never give up believing you will be a great success in class and in life." Discussions challenge us to debate controversial past events, and he pushes us to see how the past impacts us today. Wonderful professor who cares!
Prof R rocks. Well, this is an online class. The requirements and assignments are clear. He does challenge us to "think historically" and make use of the stuff we studied. But what got me was his constant efforts to motivate us and keep us involved in the class. No other online instructor has done that for me at TCC. Be ready to learn!
Great class and easy quizzes, except for the fact he grades extremely hard on the DB's and is not always great on explaining what exactly he wants. Took me until the end of the semester to understand what he clearly wanted.
The course seems overwhelming in the beginning but if you take advantage of the optional study guides, extra credit and participate each week in a timely manner, you will receive great feedback and the material will "click" together. Pyramid style learning each week builds on the previous so if you slack off it will hurt your grade.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone!!! His online class was so confusing and his lessons were always mixed up. He doesn't give due dates. You have to take a syllabus quiz and pass or he will drop you. Very unorganized and not helpful with questions. Exams are taken on campus usually easy but his teaching is all over the place.
I don't often rate professors, but I like the read the opinions of classmates. Prof. Rainard, if nothing else, challenged me to think and learn. He provided a collection of tools, from the Course Orientation guide to the weekly study guides that mapped out everything I needed to pass. His responses to my emails were nearly instantaneous. Great!
Provides study guides for everything from orientation too weekly lessons. Everything one the quizzes/tests is listed in the guides. Plus, post the guides in the weekly discussions (6x) and earn 40 points of extra credit. Lots of hand holding and encouragement. Some classmates complained they had to read, but it didn't seem like too much to me.
Class was a requirement. Received emails and handouts from the prof. before the semester began. He stayed in regular contact all semester. The worksheets let us know exactly what would be on the quizzes and test. The discussions were challenging since many in the class did not want to engage. The grading rubric and instructions were great.
Professor Rainard is a bit quirky and takes some warming up to at first. He is a very genuine man with all good intentions and best wishes for his students to pass. However, his tests are quite difficult. He gives out a study guide at the beginning of the semester, but in order to pass the class you HAVE to know the material. Very picky grader.
I took him last semester and he is very sweet but literally drowns you in work and emails. His syllabus is over 10 pages long and his due dates are confusing. You have a due date almost daily. You constantly feel like youre failing his class even if youre succeeding bc he emails you about your commitment if you dont submit like 3 days in advance
He's a bit intimidating at first but once you understand his schedule and teaching method then its a breeze. Theres a qui z every week and optional extra credit. Every quiz is multiple choice and 1 essay. The practice quizzes are identical to the graded quiz and the exams are based on the practice quizzes as well. Super easy once you get used to it
He's a bit confusing at first with due dates but once you figure it out its super easy. there's 2 chances for extra credit that are reading heavy. I did it the first half of the semester and got so much extra credit that the second half was a stress free breeze. If you submit quizzes early he give you an extra point too. easy A if you do the work
Really great professor. He gives really clear instructions, and as long as you keep up with blackboard and due dates, you will have a great experience. He is very understanding, and if you have any questions he will be quick and kind in his answer. I really loved his class!
Rainard was a great online teacher. He always makes sure he keeps in touch through email to let you know when deadlines are. As long as you study its impossible not to pass. couldn't have asked for a better first online teacher.
I learned a lot from this professor and I have read a lot of American history on my own. He is very particular about dates -get the sequence of events right- and is right to be so. He gives an easy extra-credit for early completion of the quizzes. Take advantage of it. I took both his American History classes. It was worth it.
Easy A. The practice quizzes give you the answers for the graded quizzes. The graded quizzes give you the answers for the tests. Just write down the answers from the practice quizzes and you should get 100s on the quizzes and the tests. Then just do the discussion posts and you'll get and A for sure.
