it was a fair class. the work you put in is the grade you'll get. he was clear and laid out the notes you need to know. it's a hard course all together, but put the effort into studying and this course/teacher is alright

Rob is a really nice guy, very helpful. The class is pretty tough, but if you study the material he gives you it is exactly what's on the tests/quizzes. He gives out powerpoints so notes aren't really necessary.

Rob is a really great teacher AND knows what he is talking about. His class will be nearly impossibly if you don't study. I had absolutely no interest in taking bio, but it was required. After taking his class, you feel like you might want to get into the field. At least 1 quiz a week, no papers, 4 tests I think. He keeps you on your feet.

He is the best teacher I have ever had at BCC. He is extremely funny and is passionate about the subject. He makes time fly. You would have to be a complete idiot to fail his class. honestly one of the best if not THE BEST professor at brookdale.. his quizes every week might seem like much but i can honestly say if it wasnt for the weekly quizes to make me study and keep up with the material i dont think i would have done as well in his class.. highly recommend him to ANYONE.. easy A cause he made learning painless

Excellent professor. Explains everything very clearly. Very fair grader and his tests always exactly reflect the material taught. Memorize the powerpoints and you're golden. Some found the class hard but that's just because they didn't study. An aside: I would make sure to pay attention during the photosynthesis/cellular respiration lecture.

I go to an Ivy League school and had to take this class over the summer. Martens is a model teacher and my University professors could take a lesson from him. I transferred to Rutgers and to this day when a teacher is talking about bio related material i know it.. the only class where the material never faded from my long term memory.. you actually learn in this class unlike most that are just memorization.. It is refreshing to take classes with proffessors that really care about the subject they teach. Prof. Martens is by far one of the best teachers at BCC. The school is lucky to have him. Best instructor I've had at Brookdale. Always on time. Always follows the syllabus so there are no surprises. Explains everything very clearly. Enthusiastic. Sense of humor. Grades all quizzes/tests as fast as any teacher I've had. Moves a little quick at times but Bio 102 had a lot of material.

Tons (and by tons, I mean TONS) of studying. Quizzes are fill in the blank, but almost always laughably easy as long as you study. Tests are a little more challenging and don't exactly reflect the material learned. Okay experience overall. Also, you don't need your book as long as come everyday and take notes.

I almost got a perfect score in this class. It's ALL memorization. If you have a good memory, you are set for this class. I studied with flash cards, and I did great on almost every test or quiz. I hated Bio, but now I have a good understanding and appreciation of it. Don't buy the book! Take this class, it's not easy, but it's worth it.

Rob was a really great professor and was really knowledgeable about everything he taught. Attendance was super important because there is so much info in one class. Beware that although Rob is a great teacher he is not flexible with grades and you get what you get. Overall, really enjoyed his class and he made a subject I hate very interesting.

All you need to do is copy the notes he writes on the board/ study them, and you should be able to pass all the quizzes and exams. Super easy in my opinion. I took this class in 6 weeks and even though it was fast he was very clear on what he was looking for in tests and quizzes. As long as you pay attention in class and take notes you'll pass easily.

Professor Martens is one of the best professors out there. I had him for summer III, and he not only gives AMAZING lectures, but he's so helpful, even outside the classroom. Tests are tough, but if you study ALOT you'll do fine. Just make sure you sign up for the Rob (Martens) & Bob (Gant) show (and vise versa), and you will love coming to class.

He explains everything very clearly. I took him during the summer for Bio 101 and Bio 102. If i had a choice I would take him for all my science classes.

His quizzes are multiple choice and very confusing sometimes. However, he is a good professor and will clear anything up for you. He makes sure you understand it. Take the notes from the board, that's all you'll need! YOU DON'T NEED THE BOOK! I spent 150$ on a book we didn't use! Just use the notes! Tests are tough, make sure you study!

Biology isn't an easy course and to add to that I'm far from the smartest student. Rob not only gives us his personal email, but he's more than willing to meet with students when they aren't understanding material. He goes out of his way and prepares word documents on Canvas that show us what we'll be covering in lectures. He rounds final grades!

Awesome class! Bio 102 is definitely a lot tougher than 101 and a LOT more information, but Prof Martens definitely does everything to make sure his students understand the info. He stresses what is/isn't important and makes it very clear what will be on the test. The class is definitely hard work but as long as you try an A is definitely possible!

Great professor, the lectures were definitely long and hard to keep focused aka 150 pt slide for one section. He's very detail and digram/ picture focused. Tests are worded with things like "pick which statement is false". Overall he's amazing at lecturing and very caring as a professor. Tests are HARD if you don't grasp material.

he and bob were great for the summer session! very informative albeit challenging, and very accomodating. no homework and no texbook, but a quiz basically every class. i got really sick during the semester and he let me make up an exam a week later with no problem. super chill and nice guy, willing to help, and always prepared

I had Rob for Bio 101 and 102. I wanted to take both bio courses over the summer. Study the powerpoints until you have it memorized and its an easy A honestly. Hardest exam for bio 101 was the second one. Hardest exam for Bio 102 was the first one. But again, a non-summer semester might be different.

Rob might be the best professor I had so far. He knows the material he teaches inside and out and you can tell. I enjoy his related stories and facts very much. The course material can be a bit tricky, especially since 102 isn't (in my opinion) the most interesting, but he still keeps us engaged. Listen to the lectures and study and you'll do fine.

Martens is an amazing guy and very easy to follow. He will answer any question and really break things down for you. He tells you the powerpoint slides for the quizzes and can be reached outside of class. YOU MUST LEARN EVERYTHING WORD FOR WORD INCLUDING SMALL TEXT. Only downfall of Martens is the mindless memorization. Overall I loved the class

Great teacher, uses lots of visual aids like slides and sometimes draws. A lot of memorization but broken down into sections so it's easier to manage. Tests are harder than basic all multiple choice tests, but if you put the work in it's not so bad. A pleasure to listen to in class, very enthusiastic about the material, and helpful if you seek it

Prof. Martens is such a fun goofy guy yet professional as well. He loves his job and is really good at it. He will make you love class. The tests are a little on the tedious side though so you do have to try to keep up. If you're a science/bio major and passionate, you will really like the challenge level of this class and learn a bunch

Literally the best prof I've ever taken, prof Martens is very caring and asked multiple times during class if we needed any help or clarifications. Tests and quizzes are very straightforward and he was a great teacher even during online classes. Never met a bio prof like him, he's a must-take and is very knowledgeable.

Professor Martens is the best biology professor I have taken a course with a Brookdale so far. He is accommodating, knowledgeable, and accessible outside of class. He encourages questions and drops the lowest quiz grade of the semester. If you study thoroughly, you should have no problem getting an A.

The class is hard. It is not a class to take if you are lazy and don't study or work for your grade. Professor Martens does everything in his power to help you pass. He is overly accessible outside of class, offers great advice and feedback as well as extra credit. Would 10/10 take again. Exams are difficult but he tells you exactly what to expect.

This is my 2nd course with professor Martens, although the material can be hard to memorize, hes truley the most enthusiastic professor ive ever had. Lectures are never boring, just be sure to take the time out and study the material and you will do fine!

Definitely lecture heavy but the exams and quizzes are taken directly from the power point. If you pay attention and study itll be no problem. If theres any questions outside of class hes pretty quick to answer. Definitely recommend him!

any bio class is hard it consists of lots of studying but professor Martens always made sure we understood the lectures he always made it aware to us we can email him at any time if you study from his PowerPoints and actually study you will pass this class easily

Professor Rob cares about all his students (he helped me during a quiz once). Be aware that you really have to study for the three exams, but they are almost entirely based on the slides which you can easily copy and paste into Quizlet. He does give daily quizzes, but two are dropped and they allow you to memorize the material over time.

Professor Martens is by far the best professor I have had at Brookdale. Everything he goes over in the lectures are on the quizzes and exams. He is always available if you need extra help. His lectures are not boring. You must study to pass. This is the professor you want for biology. He wants everyone to succeed. He cares about all his students.

Rob is GREAT. If you give him the time of day, he is super funny and does try to connect with his students. His lectures are pretty cut and dry, just pay attention and take notes. Ten minute quizzes at the beginning of class after a lesson is completed (10-11 questions), literally straight from the PWPT, and 3 exams. Overall, really nice guy!

This guy is probably the best bio professor I've ever had. He is very animated in his lectures and his slides have lots of info, but pay attention in class, he sometimes hints what is on upcoming exams and tests. A handful of extra credit op's which help in the long run. His tests ARE HARD though, it's just a lot of material to study, so study fr.

The absolute GOAT. His lectures are so engaging and you can definitely tell he wants his students to do the best they can. He is very accessible and will answer any question you have. He's just awesome!

literally amazing. took him for a summer class, so every lecture was loaded with information but he delivers it in a very understandable way while being concise. very clear in what to expect for assessments, exams weren't bad as i have prior knowledge of content but all quizzes/tests given out are fair. as another review said, the GOAT !

I took Prof Martens for 2 semesters in a row, he is one of the best college profs I've ever had. His level of care for his students is incredible. He truly wants to see everyone succeed. He always responds to emails ASAP and is always available for help. As long as you study for the tests and pay attention in class you will do well. He is amazing!

Enthusiastic about what he does and is always reaching out a hand to anyone who needs help. Extremely fast grader and is clear about what will be on every quiz and test. All around, great professor.

Would take this guy for every class if I could, very engaging, good lectures. Tests are hard, so take good notes. The PPTs are all online, you won't fall behind, but a missed class is a zero on that day's quiz. Low key, his voice reminds me a lot of the host of Trivia Party from Jack box Games, like he's got that funny/smart energy y'know? Fun guy.

Rob is one of the best professors I have ever had in my college career. Even as a non-science major, he made the subject approachable and understandable. He has weekly quizzes on vocabulary terms that are usually only 10 questions and three non-cumulative exams. If you put the effort in you will succeed in this course and may even enjoy it.

There is a quiz every week you come in I came in once a week so it was 1 time a week. He is super engaging in lecture specifies on everything and draws everything out to make it simpler . Try in his class actually study its a breeze he really wants you to learn at heart . His exams are a little challenging but other than that the class is great.

Took Bio 102 with Professor Martens. He is extremely nice and knows the entire biology curriculum inside and out. He is easy access outside of class and will answer any questions you have, whether it's about course material or another biology course. He is awesome!

I don't regret taking Prof. Martens again. A great professor! While you technically don't need to attend lectures, they are very helpful and explanatory towards each topic discussed. While he is very nice and quick to respond to emails, it does not make his class easy as you will have to put in the time to study if you do want a good grade.

I honestly did not appreciate his teaching style at the start, but he really does a good job at teaching his students and making sure you get any help you need with the material. He is very good at passing on large quantities of knowledge in digestible portions and he is super funny too.

Prof is amazing person. he truly loves what he does. lectures are long powerpoints that feel a bit painful/boring but explains exactly what is needed for his quiz/exams. if you listen & absorb the knowledge the class is easy with a bit of studying. no hw, ur hw is to study for weekly quizzes that will make/break your grade.

Professor Martens is fantastic! His engaging lectures and clear guidance make this class a breeze. Unstuck study is a great study tool alongside the textbook. Definitely take this class if you can.

I had Professor Martens for Invertebrate Biology. This guy is really awesome and super helpful. Nothing was too difficult, and he was extremely thorough and clear in explaining things. He clearly loves what he is doing and wants to see his students succeed.

i had him for bio207 and bio102 he is great at lecturing, but exams can be difficult. in invertebrate zoology, we only had exams with a powerpoint due at the end of the semester. although I struggled in his classes and my grades reflected that, he never made me feel bad about my grades and was very encouraging and cared for students.

My favorite professor! I had Rob for 101&102, and am taking his 206 course next fall. His lectures are direct and efficient, going in depth when necessary and providing relevant examples without getting derailed. If you stay on top of studying for the weekly quizzes, you'll be prepared for the exams. He's understanding & wants students to succeed!

I had him for BIOL 101, 102, and 205; he was hands-down the best professor during my time at Brookdale. He cares deeply for his students and wants to see them succeed in his class. He is very passionate during his lectures, and he covers EVERYTHING you need to know for quizzes and exams. If you have to take a biology class, take one with Rob!

If you're taking Biol 101 or 102 you need to take prof marten's classes. The lectures are clear, straight forward and the quizzes are directly related to the previous lecture/power-point. Exams are fair, just study and be present during lectures and you'll be fine. There's a lot of material to cover but prof martens does a great job in doing so.
