Quirky sense of humor, passionate about his field, and open-minded. Total Anarchist. A lot of students see him as merely a "Bush basher", but they are rather stupid if you ask me. Great professor, loves what he's doing and it shows in class. Is NOT a push-over, though. He criticized Clinton and Bush all the time, it's just that Bush is far more extreme and therefore he was criticized a little more. Instructor Massey is very passionate about sociology! I am now pursuing a minor in sociology because of this course! He is a strict but fair grader: if you put in the study time & work it pays off. He supplements the textbook Extremely well w/more balanced & diverse material. Two important things: go see him in office hours, & don't take online!

I really enjoyed this class, especially since I was able to see first hand the exploitation in LINs, which interested me most. Online classes are challenging but a simple visit to speak with Prof Massey & voilĂ , clarity. The reader he assigned to accompany the text was interesting & informative. The wording on tests/quizzes are tricky.

Quizzes are based off lecture notes and readings- very straight forward. His lectures tend to be very political opinionated, which is pretty annoying. He also has a Socratic teaching method; he'll randomly call on you at least once every class meeting. The class is simple, nonetheless.

Prof. Massey is a total hoot. He is all over the place, funny, and really knowledgeable! He is passionate about sociology and social justice. Speak up in class, the people that did got good grades. Quizzes, essays, and a discussion make up the grade. Take!

He goes off on tangents for his lectures, which got me really confused when it came to note taking. He makes sure all students participate in class, and if you don't raise your hand, may call on you. Tests, essays, and projects are based off the reading and online notes. Had to read it all to fully understand what is going on.

This professor may be better in person, but I found it hard to get answers to questions, and clarity on the very confusing conflicts between the course material covered in the textbook, and that of the lectures. Professor noted differences of opinions with the author of the text, but was not explicit enough to help students succeed. Very confusing.

Do not take online! Instructions are confusing. Class wouldn't be so bad but the tests are extremely hard and I read the book every week. You need to do serious note taking. Got love for Massey, he's a wonderful prof ON CAMPUS, but his online class is wiggity whack yo. Massey please work on it because it sucked the life out of me a lil bit.

The guy is a straight shooter and doesn't wasit your time. Very insightful and engaging. He drops some serious thought topics that bring clarity and understanding to world social complexities. I took the Scholar course. He is very knowledgable and is very clear on the topics he discusses in his lectures. Take excellent notes and participate in class. He is one of the best SMC professors who cares about his students and is there for you if you need guidance. I highly recommend this course for sociology majors!!

Massey cares. Bottom line. He knows what points he wants to get across and his lectures convey them clearly. Pay attention in class and you won't have to study a wink. I felt like I really learned about our society, and feel empowered to analyze the world I live in.

Don' take the online class. Told him that I struggled with some assignments despite me thoroughly following his directions, responds by telling me to look at directions... Unclear/ contradicting instructions. List goes on. Generally just an unorganized class with a lackluster curriculum that he really doesn't seem to care about.

Took Professor Massey's accelerated Winter course online for a sociology 1 and I loved it! It is such an interesting subject and the reader book is so interesting! Did not offer extra credit so make sure you do you best on the assignments but he is fast and very fair grader. Can't imagine anyone doing poorly in this class unless you just don't read

Bob is a really great person, and is super funny/outgoing, but is very disorganized in class. He lectures in class but there are no notes or powerpoint to go ff of, and he says he puts it all on canvas but does not, making it difficult to study. But really great guy, and definitely has a passion for the subject. Didn't take the time to learn names

Massey is the best Sociology professor at SMC. He is passionate and deeply cares about social justice. He makes the class easy and enjoyable by posting every lecture on canvas and providing detailed study guides for every exam. There is no homework and if you do the study guides you will easily pass the exams. Favorite prof; Highly recommend him.

His class instructions are so confusing and I have found so many mistakes and errors, not to mention his reading schedule on what chapters to read each week does not match the chapters to the lectures!! It is only the first day and I'm already contemplating dropping this class. STAY AWAY!!!

I personally loved him. He has a witty dad sense of humor which not all are fond of, but I thought he was hilarious. His class is really chill & very discussion oriented. Not a lot of work. If you show up to class & to the discussion you'll be fine. Easy A. He was also really kind and understanding with personal issues came up. He's human too!

Prof Massey's online course is REALLY unorganized. His instructions are very unclear. He's a tough grader (takes off a lot of points for little/no reason). His exams are extremely hard, the average grade the class got on their midterm and final was a C. I tried really hard in this class and got a B. Thanks to this class, my 4.0 GPA is now a 3.7. :(

Massey is amazing! The class had a very intersectional approach to feminism. Massey is extremely liberal, but he does not shut down people with other perspectives unless they disrupt the class. Very fascinating material. The tests were straightforward. All assignments were writing based. Although the lectures cover a lot, I recommend reading.

This is the worst professor I've had in all the years I've been taking college courses. He does not respond to emails, he does not offer assistance, he does not engage with the class or even give you guidance. He doesn't even know APA 7 and tries to dock points for things you did correctly. What a joke, and a waste of time and money. AVOID HIM!
