Really fun in class. Quizes are hard if you're not good at multiple choice. Three short essays outside of class, but they're only 2-3 pages. Very cute, may drool on your notes.
Professor is real cool and he has some good jokes. Overall good professor. He gives you terms to study for tests. He lets study drop one essay and a quiz.
Nice professor. Likes to joke around but can also be serious. Very helpful to his students.
EASY! Wow, attend class cuz he takes roll. Learns your name real quick. Only had 3 "quizzes" but they were worth 100 pts; 25 ?'s each. Midterm, final, and 2 papers; 2-3 pages long. Go to class, take notes, read the book a bit, and you will d
Nice guy, good sense of humor... extra credit opportunities outside of class. Fairly easy if you take notes and study for the quizzes. Though, it is hard to concentrate sometimes because he is so cute.

He is one of the most helpful teachers ever. He also makes class a lot of fun, with his jokes.
SOOOO easy, he takes questions straight from his powerpoint notes. Easy A.
very friendly, knows his stuff, has discussions about the world inside of class, just to hear everyones opinion, good guy all around. Easy class just have to pay attention to lectures or his powerpoint which he posts on blackboard
pretty cool teacher..multilple choice on tests arent that hard...prepares u for the essays...overall a pretty easy a or b
He's a cool teacher, quizzes are easy, exams are fine too if u studied for them, but overall straight from powerpoint. wish other teachers could be like him!
Great teacher. I hate history and still do, but I would reccomend him to anyone. He loves to teach and does his best to make it interesting. He makes the class a little challenging to keep you honest, but anyone could get an A who puts in a little effort. Great guy.
I loved this class. He's SO friendly and actually makes an effort to get to know his students. Easy tests and final, everything you need to know is in his powerpoint lectures so be sure you go to class.
A great professor, he's not boring or hard, lenient on exam and quizzes (easy questions from ppt), just have to study for them and u'll do fine, he makes history more enjoyable than ever, I recommend him to everyone!!!
He is an excellent teacher. He is highly knowledgeable in history specifically his expertise...His classes are entertaining because he makes you laugh with his corny jokes and impressions. He is always there to help you with your paper. His looks can be somewhat distracting. Amazing teaher! : )
easy class, interesting lectures, easy tests. he's not that bad looking either.
great teacher...lectures are still boring but still a good class...just study the power points and you should do fine on the exams...
great professor! gives out his power point on blackboard! and if he doesnt have time to teach he'll post up HIS notes! his test are easy...but thats ONLY if you study at least 2 hours a day! his power point is easy to read andd understand if you ever need help he is always willing to take time off!
His tests are easy, but sometimes when he lectures he gets distracted easily. You don't always have to go to class since you can get all the notes on blackboard.
not so much easy as organized--gives you what you need to do well if you just study
Awesome class, very easy, I recommend him 4 sho! Easy quizes and exams and only 1 essay!
Has his stuff together--powerpoint with lectures HELP A LOT. Also hot.
Hilarious. Organized. His quizes and exams are all on the powerpoint notes that you can print out. However, there is usually 3-4 questions that require reading and understanding of the book and detailed lectures. You have to take advantage of his generousity. I got a B, however, could have gotten an A if I had really tried. He is cool.
He's easy. Sometimes he gets offtrack. He also gives extra credits. You don't really need to buy the book for his class either... Just attend his lecture and take notes and u'll be fine.
Learned a lot, but TONS of reading. U have to write a response for readings each week + 2 papers/8-10pages and 1/15 pages. Be ready to work ur a** off.
Great professor, down to earth, and very helpful. I would recommend him for this specific class.
Prof. McLain was great but this class is by no means a "no brainer". Pay attention to his PowerPoints and do your Key Terms. Reading the material plus extra credit and you should do well...Doesn't hurt that he's pretty good to look at during lectures. =)
Great Teacher. Tests are easy if you take a little time studying it. EC is always there. Class is interesting. I hate history, but i learned things in his class.
so so hot and funny! great teacher; learned a lot! tests are not bad at all and there is one paper which is very easy! even if you hate history you will enjoy this class!!!
Very cool and easy going professor. Quizzes were easy. Test were a little bit difficult, but if you did the study guide you'll be good. Very funny and to the point. He is very helpful when you need it. Power point notes and study guides are on blackboard. If I had to take history 110B, I would recommend him.
One of the best teachers I've ever taken. He's tought but, Dr. McLain will always make himself available for help.
Dr.McLain is Hot!! Aside from his looks, his tests are simple if you study, and his lectures tie into his quizes and tests. If you ever have any questions he is easily approachable and is willing to help in any way he can. One of the best History professors at CSUF.
Dr. McLain is great! I never liked history before, but I've changed my mind after taking this class. He makes it fun and interesting. And ... My God, he's HOT! (Believe me, he's hotter than I can describe). I had to withdraw the class after eight weeks and that was a bummer!
Very easy class as long as you pay attention to his lectures and do your reading. Gives key terms to ease studying for tests. also pretty good looking great teacher!
his looking may be hot but his exams r pretty hard with names and books. he is a funny young guy. if u intend to read the book, take ths course. if u wanan pass without reading it, dont take him.
need to attend class and pay attention to his lectures inorder to do well. quizes are multiple choice and exams are short answer/multiple choice. Fairly easy teacher. book is not needed if u attend class and take decent notes. attendance is random and shown by inclass clicker surveys
WayWay Hot. Great accent! You have to attend class (which is easy 'cause he's hot) and you have to read and study. Its not an easy class. I have never gotten a good grade in history and I got a B in his class. There should be a rule that all history teachers must be hot, male or female, since the class sucks so bad then maybe more people would pass
He is a great lecturer and historian. His tests and quizzes are easy as long as you know the terms he provides on Blackboard. Classes are not a waste of time because he can always find ways to make fun of historical figures or make jokes. He does swear a lot in class but that's just his nature. Overall he is a good professor.
This self-proclaimed "red neck" is one of the best professors that I've had here. Quizzes/Exams mainly from powerpoint notes and a few from readings. Some bonus points from lectures so ATTEND CLASS! Offers extra credit and there's just one paper; a reaction paper to a book you'll have to read. Overall, handsome devil of a man AND he teaches well!!!
this class is really interesting. i hate history, but Dr. mclain makes it really interesting. his quizes/exams are okay. if you study the key terms you should able to at least a C.
Yes, he is very hot!!! He expects a lot from his students though. If you get an A on your rough draft, you don't have to redo it!! He lets his class go 1/2 way thru the semester to work on their papers - don't have to go to class!!!! He's always avail for questions or help. I would definatly take him again!!!
Yea, blah blah--he's hot and I'd have his love-child and all, but very hard for 300B. Still makes you meet with him a lot even of you don;'t have class AND he made me rewrite the same essay over and over until he liked it (try like 5 d*** times). I guess it was ok though--I got a lot better at writing.
Not bad for a history class. Quizzes are easy if you do the study guide. Tests are a little more difficult, but he offers extra credit to help boost your grade. theres also a reaction paper to a book that i didnt read and still managed an A. He's young and he thinks hes funny. he likes to swear, but warns you if you get offended to just drop.
I know many students didnt do well in class including the final and report. His tests and quizes r multiple choices from the textbook. His lecture is cool but I am not sure if he is really teaching what he wants to teach. If you like reading, take the class.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND HIM. HE IS ONE OF THE OWESOME TEACHERS IN CSUF. CLASS HAD 2 QUIZZES,3 TESTS,1 ESSAY. ALTHOUGH ITS NOT AN EASY "A" CLASS, HE OFFERS EXTRA CREDITS.
Awesome guy. Genuinely tries to help his students. Young. Enthusiastic. Couldn't ask for a better way to learn about things that happened 400 years ago.
This is the GE History class. ONE OF THE BEST AT FULLERTON! SO AMAZING, SO COOL, THE BEST. If you are a girl you will want to be with him, if you are a guy you will want to be him!
This Prof was awesome!! Tests n quizzes are basically right out of lecture...hardly read out of the book..study the key terms he GIVES you n ur good to go!
This guy is absolutely phenomenal! You definitely have to put in the work. All his tests are directly from his lectures. Take amazing notes and memorize them verbatim and you're golden. McLain is totally passionate about his work. Not to mention, he's hilarious. Worth the time and effort!
Okay, what's up with the picture? Yeah, he seems like a cocky chauvinist, but I figure learning is easier when you're forced to stare at someone good-looking. Two thumbs up for sex appeal.
Hes actually really nice! Not cocky at all. Very funny to listen to.
Gosh he is so hot that it makes you love history even more!!!!
Do not take for 501 unless you do not need sleep. A good prof, but this class is brutal. I think he is trying to weed people out. Way too much reading and the material was hard to follow. We had a 3-5 response each week for the books, plus TWO medium papers and ANOTHER long one. I ended up with about 100 pages of material.
Show up to class (its quite interesting), pay attention, study the key terms and you'll be fine. If you want that A, you'll have to try harder. Overall great class.
I had a lot of fun in his class. Its kind of hard not to foucs with his good looks. He tries to make the subject easy to learn. His test can be a bit tricky. Just study the key terms.
I wouldn't call him hot because he's kinda short, but his shortness makes him cute. Tests are pretty hard, quizzes are cake, powerpoints are very vague, and lectures are beyond boring. Despite his absolute HILARITY, i found myself falling asleep sometimes. Remember his favorite color, because that's actually a question on the final.
Dr. McLain was the best teacher ever! So easy! He always makes great music references to clarify things. Quizzes and tests are easy as long as you study and pay attention in class because he gives you hints what's going to be on there. Take him! And he looked really hot the last day of class. :)
Had him for World Civ and World War II. Definitely take for Civ (I got a B), but AVOID in upper level class. WWII was a very good class, but lots of reading. I could have made a book out of the lecture notes--very detailed and picky on exams. I have to repeat the class.
Good class, even for history. He gives a lot of notes, but he is very organized and let's you know what he expects. I'd say its pretty easy to get a C, but hard to get an A.
Outstanding. Has a great knowledge of his subject.
great teacher! he really loves the material but he tends to go off topic alot. expect to learn and have some fun at the same time :-) good luck p.s. grades generously.. he wants you to pass!
He made this GE class into one of the most interesting classes that I have ever taken.I took him in the Fall 07 and I was one of the oldest students in his class. He made an effort to encourage me and treat me respectfully. The class was big, but he got to know us. The subject matter was awesome. Dr. McLain, you are a rare professor.
His class is hard but he's very helpful. Thumbs up for sex appeal!
No book. All of his tests and quizzes are based on powerpoint lectures (on BB), but still go to class (he has "super secret"/extra credit questions and tidbits that might be on the quiz/test)! 1 paper on 1 book. He understands students and tries to help. He knows what he's talking about. He's very funny and easy on the eyes.
Really nice professor. His exams are a little tricky but if you print out the power points and take notes during lecture, they're not that bad. Attendance is not mandatory; however, at the end of the semester, attendance is considered when grading. I really enjoyed his class even though I hate hist. and this was my first A in history!
Great professor. Well taught, extremely knowledgable basic material. Learned a few things, good class.
Great teacher, AND SEXY! 3 tests and 3 ?book report/review? things. He really knows his stuff and has fun and funny lectures. He is really nice and understanding. GO TO CLASS!!! His tests are INSANE, they are based totally off the notes and they are very difficult, you can?t just BS this guy, but if you know it you will do well.I say take the class
Mclain is the man! If you are a history major, and really want to learn how to write research papers well, he is perfect. I had Reins for 300A and learned nothing about my writing. Mclain on the other hand will tear your paper apart - which is what I wanted. If you really want to be challenged and drastically improve your writing, take him!
What a hottie! I cant even tell you. Take a southern gentleman who has physical similarities of Hugh Jackman. You cant ask for much more, but then when he teaches.. wow! I aced the class. It was a little challenging but he tests only on what he teaches. He is amazing and one of the best professors I ever had in my years of education.
Totally awesome and fun person but he doesnt use a text book and assumes you know a lot about history. Fun guy but take a lot of notes!
Knows his subject expects his students to learn the subject. Easy class as long as you are willing to do the work
This is brutal class. Made it clear didn't want slackers who took time away from non-slackers. Told me to get better or I would have to drop. We called him the friendly assassin. Not mean at all, but brutally honest with some of the class; 1/2 class dropped or failed,
Awesome teacher. If you love history, you will love his ability to teach and challenge the way you think. Tests come straight from his lectures, which are very interesting. You will do a lot of work, but by the end of the class you find you have learned a lot. Take him!
How awesome is this man? It's been three years since I've taken his 311 WW2 class, and he left such an impression on me as a student, that even to this day, his influence greatly shapes how I perceive newfound facts of history. Take him if you want to really grasp and appreciate the past.
He is a very cool guy. He offered a lot of EC opportunities. His tests were pretty easy as long as you know his key terms. The book is not much help, but thats just me. you must take his class.
Overall easy class, just a bunch of tests and quizes but its all key terms and one book report. Just study, memorize key-terms and you should be good. Hard to fail, but also ha rd to get an A. Cool and funny professor.
This man knows his stuff! such an interesting class, he makes the class worth going to. I got an A, all I did was review ppt slides and key terms, class is super easy, doesnt take attendance but 80% of what he lectures about is on the exams so you should attend. 3 online quiz, 2 exams, and 1 report, thats the class :)
He made the class interesting, but he wasn't always fair. He grades tough on exams and papers and isn't always clear on what exactly will be on the exams and quizzes. He wouldn't let me make up a quiz when I had an emergency situation which I thought was unfair. Never opened quizzes on time on BB. Don't buy the book, it wasn't very helpful.
His lectures are very interesting. He is very easy to listen to, and good to look at! Very approachable. Attendance isn't mandatory but his classes are very easy to sit through, since his lectures are pretty good! Very nice, smart and hot! Take him!
i hate history and this class was a fair class. the powerpoints are kind of boring and he goes off subject A LOT ! however his looks kept me awake. this class is not super easy but if you study and take notes in class you will be fine.
hot professor. lectures are kind of boring and he goes off topic a lot. he tells you to look through the book but i would not even buy it. it was useless and we the tests did not have anything from the book on them. overall this was a fair class and at times boring but his looks made up for it
Mclain is an awesome professor! His lectures are long, but they are definitely not boring. His exams and quizzes are easy. The key terms are everything!!! There really is no way to fail this class. I wish every professor was this clear on what he expects of his students.
Good prof! He's an entertaining lecturer and clear with instructions. Lots of material to conver on tests, so it could be a challenge for people w/o Euro hist before. The workload was very light (no papers).
Great teacher with a lot of information. His tests are tough though. His first one consisted of almost 90 key terms. There is no word bank nor will there be (per his class recap). Very interesting teacher with a lot of passion for the subject.
McLain was wonderful. He was super funny, and great to listen to. Show up for the lectures. Take notes on the things he's saying. You do not need the text book, however do pick up the novel he assigns. Just do the work, listen to what he's saying, and take good notes.
Took him for 320 in summer and 311 another semester. Much easier in summer with short schedule. Exams were a bit hard, but he is very clear on what he wants you to know.
McLain is an okay professor. Even though the class should be about world civilization, McLain mostly taught word history which, in my opinion, is less interesting. My class met only once a week but it was almost a three hour class which made the lectures really tedious. The class was a bit difficult for being a 100 class. study the KEY TERMS!
Tests are extremely hard. You need to actually read the books he assigned. He does not provide a word bank, its fill-n-the blank questions, define 5 out 10 words and explain in GREAT Detail. Finally, one essay question- he gives the q b4 the test. Ive learned so much in his class but his tests are pretty difficult. In order to pass, You have to READ
Mclain was an excellent proffessor and very helpful. Although his tests are entirely written that does not make them harder. As long as you are prepared to do all the readings and come to every class you will recieve the grade you are looking for.
Reasonable workload; reading several books, or chapters thereof. Three essays, which were very easy to write if you can think and write critically. Enjoyed the prof. very much; I highly recommend him for 501, or any class for that matter.
Excellent professor hands down. I look for every oportunity to take his classes in the future. Standard history class, do the readings and attend class and you will get the grade you want.
Okay, yes he is hot, but that is besides the point. Dr. Mclain has such a passion for what he teaches! He wants you to truly understand what has happened in the past, not just what the movies tell you. Read the books and study the key terms. Yes he can go on tangents, but they are always interesting! I cannot wait to take more classes with him.
Best history class that I have taken up to this point. Made the class interesting by telling related stories that allow you to connect facts with interesting events. His exams are hard if you do not memorize the vocab and study hard, but if you do what he says the first day of class for the test you will ace every test, essays are simple.
Prof McLain is so passionate about history and he's funny and tells funny stories. You WILL NOT BE BORED in this class. Don't really need to buy the textbook although the one he assigns is cheap . Take good notes during lecture ,tests are online every 2-3 lectures/classes. One novel with a written response.Makes history interesting and fun!
Took this professor over the summer and that's why I didn't look forward to attending class. However, he made history seem so interesting although it is my least favorite subject and is one of the best professors I've had. He loves what he does and tends to go off topic often and talk about his family. He does compare them to history too though. :)
Extremely Helpful and Friendly Teacher. One of my favorite classes so far! I would recommend this class to any and all interested in History
Great guy, he tries to be funny and make his lectures interesting because they're really long. Basically you take 6 tests throughout the semester and write one book response. the tests are online which is great! Would definitely take again!
I really liked this class. You could tell he really likes history and reflects in his teaching. Classes are all powerpoint lectures but his comments on the subject make them entertaining. All tests are online, but you're going to have to study for tests. You don't have to read but sometimes there in info on tests you will only get from the book.
Dr. McLain prepares a student for future courses. His enthusiasm is evident in his lectures and the preparation he puts into them. Tough instructor, yes, but when you complete his course you know the material. I have taken several of his courses and he always raises the level of intellect in every course. I am lucky to have had him as an instructor
6 timed tests, one book response and a paper that goes along with it. Took him in 5 weeks for the summer session. Would take him again if he offered a 110A course. STUDY HIS KEY POINTS!
Mclain is a great professor. For an online class of 5 weeks he was very helpful. You must listen to his audio lectures to pass the tests. You can't just study off the powerpoint. If he taught another history class I would take again!
He is amazing. He is very passionate and makes you want to learn. The classes were amazing BUT, they are a LOT of work. for WW2 it was 3 exams and 4 book responses. for 433A it was 3 exams, 2 book repsonses, and 1 source analysis. His class is no joke and has to be taken seriously. you have to work hard. if he makes the test MC, STUDY STUDY STUDY!
Amazing professor but tough grader. He's there for you when you need help or want to get better at writing though. Class consisted of two book reports and a primary source analysis. Never had to take the exams as a grad student. Instead, he required us to write a 20-25 historiography paper (any topic in Tudor/Stuart era). Overall, enjoyable class!
I had Dr. McLain for both WWII class and Tudor/Stuart. Hands down best teacher I have ever had. He is definitely passionate about history and wants to share that enthusiasm with those in his class. If you're a senior and have an A you're excused from the last test. He's even fun when you accidentally run into him at the pub in downtown Fullerton!
Third time's the charm, right? Well, not quite. I admit McLain will always be a professor I admire and look up to. However, this class was straight up stressful, unorganized, and unclear. I feel like he wasn't used to it? Two presentations, precis every week, and two 12-15pg papers. Be sure to attend class since he'll only give you one freebie day.
He lets you work on your time, but schedule carefully! If you don't do the work, you can't get a good grade. 6 tests and a paper. Make sure you study the lectures before taking tests, the powerpoints aren't enough. Take a lot of notes! of everything and anything! Wish we had discussions instead of paper. But he's cool anyway. Take him!
Dr. McLain is easily one of the best professors I have ever had. Looking back, I guess there was a good bit of work involved, but McLain kept the class so interesting that it didn't seem overwhelming at the time. I can't say enough good things about him, and I hope I have the opportunity to take another class with him in the future.
He cares for his students and sends reminders for deadlines. There are several exams and one book report. Study well and pay attention so that you do very well in the class. I loved the format of the class and he made history more interesting.
Took this class during the summer online. 6 tests, no real deadline but the end of the session. 1 book response. You have to buy or rent the book for the book response to use quotes. Don't need any other book. You have to listen to the lectures to pass the tests.
I took one of his classes online. He is a very understanding professor and wants to see you succeed. His lectures are engaging. Even though this is an online class, he is accessible through e-mail.
Dr. McLain is one of the best professors I've had. I also had the pleasure of taking him for my 300B and am currently taking him for 402A. You will read a few books and write on them, but they are relevant and interesting. TAKE GOOD NOTES! You'll need them to study for exams. McLain truly loves history and that shows in his lectures.
Dr. McLain is one of my all time favorite teachers. Not only is he good-looking, he's intelligent and hilarious. His exams are easy, just memorization and lots of writing (I underestimated the first exam of class, however)
Dr. McClain is the kind of history professor you hope for, especially if you are a history major. He has a broad knowledge base and a deep interest in his craft. He sticks by his take in any historical debate and gives SOLID reasons and evidence to support his position. Get ready to write well, and memorize well for papers and exams. Great Class!
1. i hate history but this class is easy A. class consisted of 6 tests, of which he posts at the beginning of semester, and 1 essay for a book he assigns us to read. Only deadline is to complete all assignments by the end of the semester so be wise & manage ur time.. ps: VERY lecture heavy but easy A if you're willing to put in the work for it.
as long as you took notes on the online powerpoints, it was super easy. the tests were incredibly straightforward and sometimes I was able to look up the answers and find them on quizlet or just on google. I recommend taking this class if you want to get a GE out of the way. great for an easy online summer class thats not too time consuming.
No deadlines, last day to submit all work is the end of semester. I At your own pace!! gives good lectures. Plenty time to study for 6 exams. Some work you can't google it, just honestly take good notes from his videos and you'll be 100% ok. All his material is on the exam. So take GOOD notes. I hate history, but this was a good class.
1 paper and 6 tests due by the end of the semester. all his lectures are very long and super dry. you'll literally have to type everything he says to do well. it's manageable but very tedious for a level 100 class. make sure you're at a reasonable pace with completing the tests or he will start emailing you/setting specific deadlines for a test.
I had no idea what professors I was walking into. Dr. McLain is easily one of the best professors I have ever had. I took his WWII course and loved it. Wanting to be a future teacher, I learned a new way to approach a classroom. With regards to tests, he gives you a study guide and I recommend you go to office hours. It helps bigtime!! I got an A-
I think professor Mclain is overall a good professor yet his teaching style and Exams style are NOT for everyone. His tests consist of ALOT of fill in the blank and the questions are quite difficult at times he is a very tough grader for example in the 1st exam 1/3 of the class got a D or F grade.I think his teaching style works for SOME people.
Dr. McLain is the cream of the crop as far as CSUF history profs go. His passion for history is readily apparent, and he will do everything in his power to improve you as a writer. I recommend meeting with him in Office Hours to discuss papers, you'll get great feedback. Not an easy class by any means, but extremely worthwhile nonetheless.
TOO MUCH INFORMATION FOR TESTS, NOT ALLOWED TO VIEW TESTS IN CASE AN ANSWER IS WRONG ( ANSWERS CAN BE WRONG BUT THE STUDENT WILL NEVER KNOW)
6 exams (15%) and 1 paper (10%) With the Old Breed book for a "5-week long summer session class," it was too much. You do not get enough time when doing the exam for example 50 questions in 40 mins etc. It is not even an upper-division course its a 100 level. Take this class if you want but I would not recommend it at all, not worth your money!!!
Mclain isn't a helpful professor at all. He never replied to my emails during the 5 week course and is LAZY. His calendar on canvas isn't correct, (has tests due on Monday when it's actually due Wednesday). His tests are wack. He gives you key terms to study yet half of them aren't on the test while random questions pop up from the lecture.
Very great professor. Took his class for the summer and everything he lectures on is on the test.
Took this as a GE, and it was the best class Ive ever had. There was a LOT of reading, but the books were amazing. McLains lectures just captured my imagination, even though they have a ton of info. Not mandatory attendance, but miss and youll regret it on the exams.
Professor McLain is one of the best professors Ive ever taken. His knowledge on World War II is impeccable. His lectures are amazing and interesting. Their were 2 exams, and 3 book responses.
If you enjoy history you will enjoy this class. The exams are a little intimidating, but if you study you will always be able to score well. His lectures are super engaging and you can tell he's very passionate about what he teaches. I highly recommend taking this class!
As long as you actually pay attention, you will do fine. If you don't put any effort and work on things last minute, you won't pass at all. His lectures were interesting and he seems very passionate about history. The exams were not so bad but it did require you to actually listen to the lectures. Definitely an enjoyable class!
Interesting class, multiple exams based on lecture material. take good notes and you'll do well. Short/easy paper based on a book review. I would take this class!
Very kind and provides interesting lectures. He will make you read books or watch movies so be prepared. This was a summer course so very jammed pack (4 50 question tests and 2 written responses). His lectures are long (about like 2-3hrs long) but then again it was because it was a summer course. Overall awesome class, would take again!!!
This was my last option since classes filled up...and honestly very unsatisfied with the grading. There are 6 Tests. That is it. You are graded based off these 6 tests. I studied but this was not the issue, the thing for these tests was the issue!!! Not even a minute per question at least. I had to rush through a few tests.
6 Tests and online lectures on them. Watch the lectures and take good notes and you will pass no problem. Pretty funny and cool guy.
As a history major, I found this class very enjoyable! I took this course online/asynchronous; there were 6 tests and a short 1.5 minimum page essay for a book he assigned to read. You have to watch many lecture videos for the test, so make sure you space them out and take good notes, but they were interesting overall. Def recommend!
Dr. Mclain was a joy to learn from. Extreme passion for WWII made lectures fascinating. Very knowledgable on topic, even the lesser-known histories. Occasionally rants but still very funny. Succeeding in class means efficiently studying material. Study groups helpful. Everyone needs to take this class. In fact, take Mclain every chance you get.
I tried to get the WWII class for a long time and finally did. WOW. Two book responses, four lecture based tests that cover a LOT of info. Be forewarned-take careful notes and study or the test will SUCK. Very passionate about history, amazing lectures. Bonus, easy on the eyes. My history professors have all been great so far, but def my fave.
Dr. McLain was a great and caring professor. He pushes his students because he wants you to be a better writer. There were 3 exams, 2 book responses, 1 film response, and a primary source analysis. Tests are fill in the blank and short answer; no word bank, so if you don't study, you will not succeed. Do the work, get feedback, and you will pass.
