Is a nice man his Test SUCK
everything is based on the textbook and powerpoint.
Watch out girls... he will check you out in class
very helpful, knowledgeable, easy going, what a nice butt!!
Not sure whats worse, his nonstop goofy smiling and winking or his class
He's a wonderful guy and I happen to love those cute little winks and pearly white smiles!
Great Guy, only final, 4 presentations...good class
Knows what he is talking about when it comes to marketing, but he takes forever to give back assignments. Tests aren't too bad. Shows up late for class a lot too.

better not to say anything...the score says it all.

Easy if you like public speaking. Bob is very friendly and usually laid back.
He is an unfair grader
Great class. Not your typical class structure. Prepares you for the real world and sales force. 4 presentations- he knows his stuff! Take him!
Pretty good professor. He knows how to teach marketing well and although his grading system on homework is a little sketchy, he doesn't give enough homework to make it a problem. No attendence policy, go to class, pay attention, and you do well
He is the most unorganized teacher EVER!!! He cares more about being cool than teaching. I wouldn't recommend him
No Comments
Not ever having taken a marketing class, you feel like you know more about marketing then he does. He is extremely unorganized and makes it tough for you to know what is really on the tests. Cool guy, but def not a good teacher
Good prof!
He's SO nice and laid back. Class is always interesting and quizzes/tests are never surprising. He's also really helpful with the business plan if you go to his office hours or speak to him after class
Nice guy and trys to make class somewhat fun
Pretty slick (or at least he thinks so). He's all about image and not that much about knowledge/teaching - which is perfect considering his "field." Wright's an a**, so you're pretty much on your own for marketing no matter what! COB 300 s***
Acts like he's 21 still and comes across as an idiot at times. However, he's interesting and entertaining.
He's an honest, fair teacher. Tried his best to make Marketing "interesting", so to speak. Just too bad he had to take his vacation, and leave Wright in charge.
Nice guy, but read the book instead. Tests come directly from the bank. PRAY THAT YOU GET HIM INSTEAD OF WRIGHT. Decent at explaining things, but then again, its marketing.
doesn't give assignments from the book, just thinks them up at the end of class, so they are always easy. very personable guy: always looks you right in the eyes. tests are not that bad. exam review double dare is a blast. take him and you'll be glad!
i don't know what's gotten into McMillen lately- he's been cocky and arrogant, but it seems to fit him! he's turned hot!!!
Obviously the person previously doesn't know him THAT well. He puts on a good show and over time you will see his true colors. The things that could be said about him wouldn't be permitted on here so with that being said just stay away from him!
rarely makes it to class himself, has stand in teachers, assignment essays are easy & he is really helpful with your business plan... pretty much hands you target marketing
McMillen is always friendly and personable. Always willing to help students. Can be a little skeevy at times, but it doesnt interfere with the class at all. Gives good feedback on benchmarks and seems to want students to succeed. Take him instead of Wright if you can.
Great guy. Friendly, helpful, I look foward to his class. Gives real-life examples that are easy to understand. Treats students well, obviously a caring soul.
8am every isnt that bad. This class is a piece of cake, just read the book carefully, you'll do fine. Tests are long and very easy, straight from the book. Class is very interesting, he'll keep u awake in class.
In my opinion, his class is the easiest out of the 300 classes. He's a good professor, will help you out during his office hours if you need it, and his tests are pretty easy. More entertaining than Wright. Keeps our early classes awake with jokes and his endless Steelers comments. Good prof!
He teachers clear and well. His humor can be crude, but compared to the other 300 teachers he is much more fair.
Easy class. Pay attention in class and read the chapters. Pretty straight forward. Quizes are definition and the exams are made up of the quizes. 8AM: Makes class fun and you'll stay awake most of the time. Good guy
He takes his tests and quizzes from the CD in the book. Easy prof because he hardly puts forth any effor. Nice guy and willing to help you out.

Tries to hard to be cool, nice try for a 43 yr old!

Great prof! Keeps you entertained and he definately knows his stuff! Go to his office to get help with the b-plan.
McMillen is the man, study the quizzes on the disc that comes with the book and you'll be straight cash.
This man is out of control. His exams were just random questions from a test bank, because he was too busy trying to mack on his students to take the time to write his own exam. Helpful on the BP, yes, but the class was out of control.
Very bright, incredibly cool and have you seen his awesome, to die for, chest!
The person who commented before must be on crack. McMillen is a loser and his body is not hot...his age is catching up to him fast!
he's alright. tests are straight up vocab and he recycles the ones he uses for quizes. he was a jerk to my group though
Professor McMillen is a hottie
No Comments
Mcmillen is definitely a hottie!!! The quizzes are hard because he pulls ridiculous**** out of the book. Test can be easy but it depends. Usually 20 out of the 60 are hard. Overall this class is fun and goes by quickly. (Easy B hard A)
Helps out with bp practice!
Not really that sincere. I'd say that he's a marketing expert judging by the way in which he presents himself. Hi lectures are mostly common sense. Read the book and stay home -- you'll do fine. I'd say you should try for a different Marketing teacher for COB 300.
doesn't really care if you learn the stuff. he's just concerned with looking good for all the girls. extremely cocky. not too hard if you have him, but i wish i had another prof
No Comments
So sad that a professor still wants to be in college. Unless you are a girl or a football player dont bother talking, he wont notice you anyway. Takes forever to get anything back to you, test are overly hard for the material. Dont bother getting the book, just listen, it helps sometiems, easy B
Send the girls of your group to his office hours. Will not give most guys the time of day.
Wow what an idiot. I think this guy is probably the dumbest of all teachers I've ever had. Takes forever to return tests and quizzes, very unhelpful, horrible lecturer, etc. Don't take him. He really is that bad. He'd make a great high school gym teacher.
Helps everyone including me, a dude! He gets a bad rap because he's young, friendly and coollll! Very smart about business, investments and sports!!!
As far as delivering material, not the best, not the worst. Tests didn't always reflect what we learned in class. I must say he was VERY helpful during office hours for the business plan. Its an easy B, A is doable with some work.
Nice guy but lectures are pretty pathetic, a lot of material on tests not covered in class, or in book in some cases. Moderately helpful for business plan. Bottom line: read book, don't go to class - no attendance.
Seems nice, often doesn't show up for office hr, even if you make an appt. Often confusing. Would only go over things once which was annoying when it wasn't on powerpoints or in the book. Tests focus on a few key ideas from each chpt the rest isn't asked about. Sometimes tests have questions that weren't covered in class or in the book.
Straight baller, easy, funny, lets you out early, you learn, minimal grades, hott - deff take.
Pretty fair teacher. Makes class somewhat entertaining and interesting, and tries to relate with students and is pretty helpful. Read the book and go to class and you'll get at least a B
such a nice/funny guy. keeps class interesting. no attendance policy. pretty easy class...you can get a b with little effort
Great guy who's willing to help your team. His tests are harder than they need to be, but managable.
I don't know about COB 300, but if you have the chance to take him for 430, DO IT! I probably got more from this class than any other in my JMU career. It's all presentations, which might sound scary, but it reallllly helps if you want to go into mktg/sales/advertising. Easy quizzes, nice fun guy, class is a breeze with effort on the presentations.
Hes a real nice guy easy to get along with deff. take his class!!!!
Very unclear on assignments and takes forever to give back grades. Doesn't answer questions directly. Takes forever to grade assignments. If you need any help, he only gives priority to hot girls, so if you're group if full of dudes, good luck. If you're taking it during the fall, usually opens every monday class talking about football. lame.
Caring, considerate, prof! Helped us on the Business plan big time!
Mike Rowe's twin. Not even kidding. His class is actually a lot harder than he makes you think it's going to be. I studied my butt off and I only pulled a B. Questions on the tests & quizzes are tricky, but the hws are ridic easy.
prof mcmillen is the best. his football talk is pretty boring i'd have to say. but the Steelers are the best! i dont get why all of you say he gives his attention to hott girls, hes not a perv. & he may take forever to grade but you know he might just want to spend time with the family.
McMillen is a joke. His first two exams are easy, read the book and take the online quizzes and you will do fine. Dont even bother writing down what he babbles about during class. The final is tough because half of it is departmental. Overall not a bad teacher to take.
Has a great sense of humor that makes the class bearable. The first two tests aren't bad,but the final is tough.HW and quizzes are pretty easy and he doesn't take attend. Most of the test questions come from the book.Pretty good prof. overall.
McMillen is pretty cool. His syllabus has an attendance policy but you quickly realize he does not take attendance. The first 2 test are pretty easy but the final is departmental. You can tell which questions he wrote and which ones Bolfing wrote. Pretty easy and very interesting. I did not do any work for this class (not much at least)
McMillen is awesome. He teaches the material so well and willing to help on the business plan if you go see him. He NEVER checks his email, let alone replies when he does. Just go see him. Tests aren't that bad. He makes me want to be a marketing major. (You most likely will get Bolfing too, check he review...)
I like to call him professor McMuffin. Read the book, pay attention in class and you'll be fine. I love the fact that he like the Steelers. Go Pittsburg!
The class wasn't very difficult, but I don't feel that I learned much either. Tests are long, but passable. His tests are on 5 or 6 chapters, but then half the test will be on one concept, so make sure you know every little detail of whatever he thinks is the most important.
Intelligent, but thinks he is more so than he actually is. Lectures can be dry and boring, but he doesn't take attendance.
He is the man, plain and simple. This class is easy if you are good at presenting. Don't take it if you are not. You learn a lot about selling products/services. I recommend it. He only teaches this class in the Spring though.
His tests can be really tricky, just make sure you study and now your stuff and you'll be fine. He is one of the more helpful professors when it comes to the business plan as well. He's definitely one of the better 300 professors. GO STEELERS!
doesn't take attendance.. which is good b/c he doesn't really teach. then tests you on tons of thing he never went over. he is helpful with the business plan but i didn't learn much
Intelligent, helpful and knows the Business plan process!
everyone really overrates him because he comes off as really cool at first. hes an above average teacher and his tests are really tricky. not a bad guy at all, but definitely lazy and thinks he's a bit more of a genius than he is. got a B in the class, which is very attainable.
McMillen is a good guy, keeps you awake in class...however, he def got harder compared to previous years. Test have answers that are different from the book, definition wise. Cannot get by just reading the text
A nice enough guy, but kind of too busy trying to be funny and cool (neither of which he succeeds at) to get students interested in the material or teach anything. I'd actually feel bad for him except for he's kind of full of himself to boot. Very little value in the class except for what can be learned from the book.
Classes are steered off topic and you never get to the topics that are suppose to be covered on the test but says which pages from the book are on the test, study hard with a group b4 the test. Quiz questions used multiple times look over them. Helpful with the b-plan but make sure you ask him to be specific in his recommendations and what he wants
He is nice in the beginning of the semester but gets annoying very quickly. He likes himself way to much and its quite obvious.
McMillen is the man! It was a very fair class. It was just my business plan that screwed me over.
A pretty good professor. Easy to talk to and helpful during office hours. Tests are very easy if you know the definitions. He really works with the students. Attendance is not even necessary most of the time, he gives quizzes that help alot, no homework. Takes the business plan very seriously though.
Really awkward when he tries to be cool/funny to the detriment of the course. Contradicts himself/the text during lecture and when called out on it gets really embarrassed/defensive. His quiz/exam questions are poorly written and often have several or no correct answers, which you can and should dispute with him later (I usually got points back).
He is funny, nice, and makes lecture fun, but by getting completely off topic for a large portion of the time. He lectures in a direct, laid back, nonchalant style, but then his tests are really eloquently written with lots of jargon, so read the book because I have a feeling many of the questions come from it. Hes a bit awkward, but its humourous.
Mcmillen is a chill dude, but not the best professor. Always kept class interesting and lively but got off topic a lot and that came back to hurt you. Sometimes gave inconsistent information that conflicted with the book. Read the book and you'll be fine. He can be helpful with your business plan.
You will need to rely heavily on the book for this class. Lectures can be helpful, but often are fast paced or off-topic. The course is very manageable if you study hard. He always has a review lecture before the exam so take advantage of this and ask questions / make a study guide! Online quizzes add up so make sure to do well on all of them.
He's helpful, approachable and uses lots of real life examples. The textbook is a must have and you MUST read it in order to do well. His online quizzes and homework assignments build up, but put your main focus on the tests. He will also grill you on the business plan so have your marketing portion of the plan looked over. Otherwise great.
Chill dude who does the ABSOLUTE minimum necessary for being a professor here. Really disappointing considering he's in the 300 program which is supposed to be highly lauded and praised. Basically is a shill for Pearson, has you do outside homework and uses a test bank that he "swears" he changes every semester. Tries to be funny, mostly is lost
Tells you the average for the class will be a B but really it will be closer to a C. Wastes time in class talking about his own stocks along with other pointless things and will put random stuff on tests hes never talked about. Not a good marketing teacher for 300 but i'm not sure about other classes. good guy, sub par teacher.
If you are unfortunate to have him for your COB 300 marketing class, JUST CHANGE MAJORS NOW! He is by far, the worst professor I have ever taken. He will tell you to study a certain part of the material, and test on the complete opposite. To make it worse, he took a class in grad school about formatting exams which are ridiculously hard. Good luck!
He is a nice person but a not very good professor. His tests are extremely difficult. Try to do well on the online quizzes, and the BP that's the only thing that can help you have a decent grade in this class.
Nice guy, a bit strange. He is not a very good professor and the tests questions are not fair. I have a 3.9 gpa and I got a B+ in his class so just try your best if you end up getting him for 300.
4 week class. 2 tests (m/c & t/f 70 to 75 questions in 60 minutes). 1 cumulative final on all 16 chapters (75 questions m/c & t/f in 60 minutes) Assignments are pretty easy. 1 20q quiz per chapter & 2 to 4 assignments for each chapter (takes 1-3 hrs a day). 5 to 6 chapters per week all assignments & quizzes due on Sunday. Can work at your own pace.
Terrible organization of the class. You have homework due online for chapters you won't cover until another 4 weeks in class and the tests are ridiculously hard. This class seems like it's designed to stroke the professors ego, given the material is fairly easy he just makes it ridiculously hard so he feels important.
"If you don't read EACH chapter THREE times before the test, you won't get above an 80." He's not lying, his tests are extremely hard and you learn 20 chapters in 3 short months. Your saving grace will be the MindTap homeworks and the business plan. Really passionate marketing guy, really hard professor.
He's a decent professor and the lectures are pretty entertaining sometimes. If you do the readings and the mind tap assignments (like for real, not just skimming and guessing) it will really help. The tests are pretty difficult but he gives you tips on what to study. He gave homework on multiple chapters we weren't tested on which was annoying.
He tries to make the lectures relatable and tries to keep everyone engaged. You HAVE to read the textbook or you won't pass. You also don't need to read each chapters 3 times to get an A. Take the first test seriously bc usually everyone bombs it because everyone tries to memorize the book rather than understand the material. Solid professor
He is okay, but he talks about the most irrelevant things like how he chugged 28 beers in high school, seriously? I am paying top dollar to go to this uni to not have my professor sound like another frat brother. He is sooo scattered brain and his office hour culture is ridiculous. I do not have time to sit in his stuffy office all day to get help
Dreaded his class. Just teaches the textbook during lectures with minimal effort to make it the least bit interesting. Exams are a joke and unnecessarily hard. I was looking forward to learning about marketing but he made it hard to appreciate. Good luck if you have him for 300!
his class is horrible. He just uses textbook powerpoint and extremely hard tests. I thought marketing was be a bit easier, but this guy took to another level. You dont have to read the chapters 3 TIMES to pass, just go over the powerpoint slides on MindTap. Good luck if you have him!
He is a nice guy but the class is hard and the only way to do well is listening to his lecture
I learned interesting things about marketing which was cool since it isn't my major. I never read the textbook and only studied the powerpoints for the tests and did fine. Test questions can be tricky so really read them and try to understand what the answer is supposed to be. Do your best on MindTap b/c in the end it's a big portion of the grade.
Prof McMillen is the best COB 300 teacher in my opinion. Idk why but I want to do well in his class to impress him. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE TESTS, they're pretty hard. But, he tells you what to focus on and the best way to study and it works. Great experience for my only marketing class
Bob is a really cool guy and tries to engage students during class but his lectures are just so boring. He posts essentially the same thing through his narrated powerpoints which is better than the lectures AND the textbook. You don't need to read 3 times through but getting ahead early is really important. Overall nice guy just really boring.
I love McMillen he is a fantastic choice for Marketng. You will not regret it! He knows what he's talking about, and makes class fun and engaging.
McMillen is hilarious and super entertaining.l He says you need to read the textbook chapters 3 times to do well on the tests, but as long as you read once and take detailed notes you should be okay. Tests are almost all definition based or examples from the textbook and lectures are easy to follow. Don't know why he doesn't have a higher rating!
Expects you to read each chapter 5 times before a test when each test generally covers 6-8 chapters. During his lecture he spends 50 minutes talking about 3 of his 30 slide presentations and tells you not to focus on anything else, then puts everything else on the tests. Gives awful feedback on your business plan then knocks you down for it.
You will hate yourself I you get this teacher. He expects you to read the textbook 3 times for each chapter. Only talks about 3 out of the 70 slides he has on each chapter during class. There is no reason a basic marketing class should be this difficult.... Avoid at all cost
McMillen has lost all touch with reality, he's delusional. He tells you the only way you're going to be successful is to read the text book chapters for each exam 3 times over (including the 20 chapter final exam), that's the only tip he provides. He responded to none of my emails throughout the semester. He just shows up to lecture and that's it.
Passed by one question, good luck!
His tests are too hard for the material(he says you should read the textbook 3 times in order to at least get an 85 on them) and they are 70% of your grade. He is nice in class and is passionate about what he teaches but it seems like he doesn't want students to think marketing is easier than all the other 300 courses. My feelings for him are mixed
Nice guy but horrible professor. Makes the course far more difficult that necessary to make himself feel important. Going to class was him talking about stocks and cryptocurrency for 10 minutes, going on tangent for another 10, then flying though PowerPoints. Half the stuff he says wont be on the test, is, and the averages were abysmal.
McMillen is a solid choice for COB300D! If you listen carefully to his lectures, take good notes, and pay attention to his in class examples, you will well on his tests. He also assigns MindTap assignments that are not very useful, but make sure to do them on time! He's also fairly helpful for the business plan and likes you if you participate!
Tricky exam questions. Nice to talk to and easy to get along with but can be rude in class sometimes towards some peoples questions. You have to memorize a lot of info that wont be relevant to the exam which can be extremely frustrating.
McMillen is hard to fully describe... He is a good person, but his tests are WAY too hard.
The way he structures this class absolutely sucks. Doesn't lecture or give notes but you still have to show up to class. He gives random quizzes on packets that aren't really relevant. The way he does roleplays is way worse than other professors. You're only graded on 3 roleplays, a bunch of quizzes, and attendance. No exams are a plus though.
McMillen has a lack of preparation and unclear quiz grading criteria. Throughout the semester, he would grade the quizzes too harshly and take off points unless you wrote the answer verbatim. The communication is bad, countless times class was canceled, and no one was informed. Also, Canvas is not really used making things confusing.
AVOID AVOID AVOID! Tests are way too hard. Lots of memorization and "examples from class". Claims you need to read the textbook at least 3 times to be successful. Very rude during office hours-- blames you for not doing well on exams and offers minimal help.
Pointless online assignments every week and 4 exams, exams aren't difficult just review his posted power points.
Okay first of all the homework isnt even that bad, its the fact that he said to us that we "shouldnt review the homework or quizzes because their only purpouse is to make sure we read". Also the readings, out of a slide deck of 60 slides, he will only talk about 2 of them, and if you forget to write them down, you have to read and memorize a chap
The structure of this class isn't great + can be confusing. But he's a pretty easy grader, a nice guy, and gives lots of feedback on roleplays. And ALWAYS get out of class early. No textbook either. Quizzes are short answers though- look out for the first one! Overall he's a chill guy and you just have to present and think critically in roleplays.
I took MKTG 380. The class was very hard for people that are Hart School majors. The tests are hard and sometimes the questions didn't always seem fair. He is a really nice guy, and he uses real life examples that are helpful for a future career, but not for the exams as much.
McMillen's COB300D class has a heavy emphasis on exams, with tricky questions that require extensive textbook reading. While he's approachable, his teaching style can be hit-or-miss. However, unstuck study proved invaluable for exam preparation, helping me ace the course.
Professor McMillen's class was a decent experience. Taught about (In my opinion) interesting concepts, but his lectures were definitely hit or miss like some other reviews say. Only complaint was it is hard to study for the exams from materials he provides himself.
Easily one of my favorite professors at JMU. Lectures are very interactive, and he wants you to succeed. If you study the textbook and slides, as well as listen to in-class examples, you will do great. Helpful, supportive, and great to talk to. Very helpful with the business plan--ask for help
he's not a terrible professor but its very obvious that he only likes to teach business majors. the mind tap assignments are annoying, theres a bunch of them, and it goes over content he never actually touches on in class. His lectures are boring + he doesn't make his own slides and now he goes on random political rants in class.
If creepy and predatory were options I'd have selected them. This guy is wildly full of himself and has little insight to share. A lot of women claimed predatory behavior.
Transformative class. I immediately switched to a sales concentration two weeks in. Professor McMillen's lectures are amazing, very casual and filled with knowledge. He immediately gets you out of your comfort zone with some interactive activities, which incentivizes participation. Roleplays and quizzes are not bad if you prepare.
Such an awesome person and professor. He is very personable and connects with students well, he can separate himself from the textbook and teach with in-life situations which always helped me understand better. His teaching may not be liked by everyone, but he gives you all the resources you need to succeed. would definitely take or hope to have!
he's lowkey just not a good teacher. his homework barely counts for anything and the hw questions are nothing like the exam questions. his tests are oddly difficult for a marketing class and he provides no way to review for them. don't listen to him when he says you need to read the textbook; you'll get about the same score either way.
He is ok, just gives no good feedback whatsoever, he barely knows whats on the test and will answer a question vaguely aboiut it
McMillen is a great guy, just not the best professor, but class is easy! Quizlet will be your best friend for this course. You could probably get by not going to most of his lectures, since all he really focuses on is the BCG matrix. HWs are easy points but they won't tank your grade if you miss a couple. Helpful during BUS plan.
McMillen is a creepy guy and makes his class unnecessarily hard. This class should not be so test heavy given it is marketing. He has no idea what his exams are on so class is kinda pointless. He is not engaging at all which makes it hard to stay awake in his class.
