If you have a pulse, you will get at least a C
Will put you to sleep! Nice guy, but horrible lecturer...take someone else!
great proffessor and he's very helpful!
a lot of mistakes on the lectures... was sometimes an hour late for office hours... expects students to know more than they should for the course... if i were you i would try to get another teacher if it was possible..
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He doesn't know what he is teaching. He talks to you like you know just as much chem as he does. Don't take chem 130 with him!
He is the worst teacher ever. I did not learn a single thing in the class. He thinks that we know the same amount of chemistry as he does. If there is another teacher for chem 130 take the other teacher!!!!!
Worst professor I've ever had! He's a nice guy but he's not a teacher. I haven't learned anything useful this entire semester. He drones on in front of the class, but makes no sense. He constantly makes mistakes in his lectures, tests, and homework. Awful
I love Dr.Metzger. Extremely nice! Very helpful with questions. Not very clear about homework requirements or exam material though. You have to like metabolic pathways to enjoy the lectures. Dont have grade in class yet..We'll see
He is BEYOND horrible. He has way too many mistakes, doesn't teach things that are on the tests, homeworks are due before he has even covered the material on them. although his sexy pocket protector, combover and cokebottle glasses almost make up for it
very VERY bad teacher! he worked off power point and half of the time he didn't know how to work the damn thing!and when he did lecture...all he really did was read off of what was on the power point. when it comes to homework, you HAVE to work in a grou
I am pretty sure that he knows chemistry, but he is not good at explaining and teaching. Also he is not organize, he makes mistakes in class and assigments which confuse students. Advise: Ask him any doubt and go to his office hours for help.
I DID NOT LEARN ANYTHING AT ALL IN HIS CLASS! HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT BUT HE SUCKS WHEN IT COMES TO TEACHING!!! I'M SURE IF I HAD A BETTER TEACHER I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE LEARNED SOMETHING!! DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS! GET ANOTHER TEACHER!
The only way to pass the his classes is to go to office hours daily..which is hard if you're busy. Avoid him, but if you can't try really hard to keep up, and learn from other sources. You just have to get through it..and go to class!
He is a really nice guy and knows his stuff, but he's not very good at teaching. His lectures are unorganized and he digresses a lot. You just basically have to work extra hard and go above and beyond your regular efforts.
He's a sweet guy, but a horrible teacher. He starts half the class just trying to figure out how to turn the computer on and the lights off. He's smart, but just doesn't express well.
Metzger is a really nice professor, but going to his lectures do not help. In order to get this chemistry down packed you have to go to his office hours, and set up study groups. I worked my ass off in this class, and I ended up with a B...
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!I don't think that he realizes what is going on half the time. He jumps subject to subject and can't work his own power point presentations. If you want to be confused the entire semester...take him...oh and he thinks he is funny.
its obvious that he's really smart, but probably not meant to be a teacher.but go to his office hours! he will help you with all of your questions and he can get to know you...for homework too, not just before tests..
horrible professor. he has no idea what is going on in class and everyone gets very frustrated with him. makes many mistakes and tests are difficult because he really can't teach. He should not be a professor.
Metzger is such a nice guy. if it wasnt for that, i would have gone crazy in his class. during his exams id ask him a Q about a problem and hed just give me the answer. but hes not the greatest prof becoz he assumes you already know the material just as well as he does so his teaching methods suck.
The only way you will understand the contents of this course is if you learn from your groupmates and if you go to his office hours... I kid you not, you will learn, if not nothing, very little in his lectures.
HE IS HOOOORRRRRIIIIBBLE!!! YOU wont learn a darn thing, but if u study the guide you can pull it off, expect nothing from lecture and all the work to be done outside of class. if u can get someone else, take them FOR SURE. i still pulled a B becuz of his curve, and i went to class on test days
Be prepared to regurgitate information. Very sweet man, but lectures and homework were not very clear. Office hours and study groups are crucial to passing the class. 5X7 notecard is allowed on the tests. Be prepared to put in A LOT of time!
i don't know why this teacher is still teaching at state..he's nice and all but he just does NOT KNOW how to teach at ALL.....u gotta rely on yourself and ur classmates for help..other than that..ur screwed..!
Mr. Metzger's lectures are funny, but they are kind of hard to follow. Instead of looking at the book, go to office hours. If you actually put some effort, he may award you. The thing that helped me the most is my study group. Try to group up with smart kids. He gives a VERY generous curve.
A brilliant professor who tries his best to help students when asked. Go to his office hours! I think most students blame the professor because the course itself is hard. Indeed organic chemistry is hard and complex even if it was taught by another professor. He also has a VERY generous curve.
He is a very kind professor, generous curve for the class. Be prepared for lectures-- use his book to take notes in to save time to allow you to write down his explanations. Be prepared to work HARD-no matter who teaches it, ochem is hard. GO TO OFFICE HOURS--he explains much better with smaller groups and helps with HW. See TAs too- they're GREAT!
People should stop whining because his class is not that hard to pass with an A or B if you take initiative and are sincerely interested in doing well without already giving up because other people **** and whine about him. If you go to office hours to clarify the homework and at least half of the tutoring session you will do well. I got an A
Does NOT know how to teach and he is very boring and speaks with monotone. He should not be teaching this hard class. Going to class is pointless. Go to help class and study the practice tests for the exams. Also go to his help room. This class is very very time consuming.
He is a sweetheart and is always willing to help. The important thing is that he wants you to understand the material not just "barf it up" as he says to get a good grade. Work hard and you can earn a good grade. He is no where near as bad as people say, they are just lazy.
Professor Metzger is very compassionate.. His class may be hard to understand when he is speaking but if you look over the notes and practice test it is really easy. Very generous in curve and cares for his students.. HE actually wants them to do well!
the class isn't hard, I took chem 200 before taking this one and chem 130 is way easier than 200. Metzger is really bad at explaining the content, he makes it a lot harder than it actually is. you have to learn by reading the book or going to the tutoring sessions.
this class is hard! he is not great at explaining the material. his text is helpful though. if you take the time to really review and teach yourself what he talked about in lecture, then you probably won't do that bad. class is a big commitment of time. go to his office hours, b/c he is more than happy to help!
Metzger can be confusing in lecture, but if you go to office hours and set up help sessions, and STUDY THE CLASS READER, you will do fine.
Metzger is confusing in class, but in office hours he is very helpful. If you study out of his class reader and put out a little effort, you can get a good grade. It isn't a class that just comes to you though, you must put out SOME effort.
Metzger's class is very do-able as long as you attend class and his office hours. Lecture sometimes is overwhelming, but you HAVE to take time to talk to him. Give him a chance to help you because he does so very well. Great Professor, quite funny too!
GREAT Professor!!! Chemistry is hard in general... Lectures can be confusing but if you go to his office hours or tutor, you will do fine in the class. He is willing to help and cares about his students. Class is curved. Study lecture notes and practice exams.
He is confusing at times in lecture. Go to his office hours. He is not at all bad. Just go to class and pay attention. You dont even need to buy the text book.Just make sure to pay attention in class and go over the notes and you will do very well.Chemistry is not an easy subject so you can't expect to get an A in the class without putting in effort
Metzger is a very helpful teacher. Go to his office hours atleast once a week and go over homework, old tests, and confusing material! he will do whatever he can to help his students succeed! buy his small study book! it is the basis for lectures and has helpful practice tests and reading material dont buy blei book unless you already boughtit
his class is not hard get copies of old test and know that. first 2 tests are way easy, second 2 are really hard and the final is easy. lecture isnt that helpful but you need to go because he sometimes tell you what is on the test
Metzger knows his stuff but is a bit unclear sometimes in lecture. Go to class and take notes. Go to his office hours and ask for help. Review the previous exams. Put in the effort and you will easily get an A.
Easy A class if you put the effort into it. Make sure u go over his book that he wrote. the practice exams r exactly like his exams. so memorize them and u'll get an easy A. good luck.
the lectures help for the first 2 exams and then the last 2 pretty much study his manual or go to tutoring, don't bother to buy the book, easy exams which are the same as old ones so get a hold of them, pretty entertaining at times so you'll enjoy him
Funny professor.
easy A teacher. just pay attention to lecture and study off his book he wrote and you will do fine. make sure you understand and not just memorize off one of the old exams. memorizing will only on a couple of questions on the exam. the rest you NEED to understand the material.
I went into this class with the impression (that i got from other people) that it is one of the hardest classes to take. But the homework groups help out a lot as long as u have a good one. I never really went to class because I never understood what he was talking about. But if you go to his office hours or some other of the TA's and tutors everyt
His teaching method includes lecturing about useless material that won't be on the exams. You get more useful information from the study sessions with Gabe or anyone else for that matter.
Hard subject, awesome teacher. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Study the practise tests and attend study groups and you'll do well. Professor Metzger is a smart guy with a great sense of humor.
Hard subject. You have to have a good study group and go to his office/ tutoring hours because this class is not easy. funny professor.
This class is so strange. I have never been one to miss class, but it ended up being more beneficial for me to stay home and read the book, because he just confused me too much. I hired a tutor, and I recommend going to the TA study sessions! Those saved me. I got an A and if I had JUST gone to his lectures and not had a tutor, I would have failed.
IF you're a freshmen, or a pre-nursing major! Take my advice, and do not take this class! Take this class at a community college! Way easier!! Trust me! You will regret not taking my advice!!!!!!
o chem is a hard subject PERIOD. u need to study ur butt off to get an A. yes, metzger is a bit unclear sometimes but he does anything he can to help out students. go to class because he will tell you what will be on the exam. MEMORIZE his book and you will do fine. generous curve. take him.
Those who are lazy need not take this class, because you will fail. But those who are willing to learn and accept a challenge then I recommend Professor Metzger. He is helpful, yet the class is not easy, but neither is life. I'm enrolled in his class and I have an A/B average. I hope to leave with an A.
The class is not easy, but if try to understand the material and not just memorize it you will do fine. Metzger is a cool guy, who likes to crack jokes for his own amusement.
Read the book and if you can go to the TA sessions, plus hire a tutor if you can. The teacher is not clear, but if you dedicate yourself to this class you will pass. Try to review notes, readings all the time. if ur a nursing major take it at a community college. Good luck with o chem.
Hard subject, but a great professor to teach it. He goes out of his way to help his students. I got an A, but I busted my a$$ to get it. It can be done, good luck!!!!
Great & very helpful professor/person. First chemistry professor I've had who ACTUALLY made sense. Don't psych yourself out. OChem isn't as deadly as people make it out to be. An A is definitely attainable, as long as you put enough effort to UNDERSTAND (not just memorize) the material. Use office hrs/tutor sessions, too. Good luck!
Very hard subject. You need to work hard to get a good grade. Metzger is nice and helpful especially during his office hours. Go to the TA sessions!! It helps a lot. Or at least hire a tutor. There's several homework assignments, but you get to do them in groups.
Very unclear in his teachings, but does try to help you. His tests are ok, he gives you practice ones which help a lot. GET A TUTOR! This is a hard class and you'd prob need one w/ any professor. group hw, 4 tests + final. Automatic curve of at least 85=A. Office hours help a little, tests are 25 M/C and can't afford to take your time. OK Overal
Most boring class and teacher I have ever taken in college. He's a nice man, but good luck staying awake and learning anything at all!
It's a hard class, so you have to work hard. This is Organic chemistry, what were you expecting? He is very apprachable is and willing to help. Go to the T.A tutoring sessions and study, study, study. I pulled off an A-; do the homework and attend every class. Ask him questions if something is unclear!
Dont expect to not show up to this class and get a good grade. The tests are tricky, but he uses questions from past tests, so get them from the tutor ASAP. Also with this class you are forced to get a tutor. There are three tests, final, and weekly group homework. The homework is harder than the tests!
It's not an easy class, which means, you WILL need to study. I got an A-, and i studied my butt off. I would recommend going to the 3 study sessions before each test (if they are still offered); if you are at all confused about anything, go to his office hours, plus he gives you hints on what's going to be on the tests. Good luck!!!
Nice man, very boring however, he drowns on about the history of chemistry instead of teaching how to solve problems. Posts slides on blackboard, but usually lectures on whatever comes to his mind during class. Need tutor, tests are hard. Freshmen, take Chem 100 first, he does assume you already know the material.
hardest class of my life. he is SOOOO boring, class drags on. tests are impossible....take CHEM 100 before...no one i knew liked this class.. make sure you dedicate all your time to this + weekends to pass.good luck...
Professor is funny! This class is hard but he curves very lenient!! Helps you out so much whenever you ask. Also get a tutor, it'll help you too. LAB REPORTS and HOMEWORK are easy ways to get points. I took the class without taking any chem before and I did great, go to the lectures and STAY!
Nice guy but very confusing lectures. He's there for help but you have to take the initiative. Highly recomend taking Chem 100 first espescially freshman.
His name is Gabe Guererro and he is the only way you will do well. If he's not tutoring then good luck!! But, also stay for lectures! I know it seems pointless but in the end it helps. I got an A but I never left early!!
I hate this professor, and his class is very boring!! this class is just too much to cover in one semester.
This class is horrible. Basically the only people that will get As are people that understand chemistry. And for the people that don't go to Gabe, hes the only thing that kept me from failing. If you take this class, best of luck.
Metzger is a HORRIBLE teacher. He is a very nice guy. The lab write ups and homework depend on the TA you get. Hopefully it is not rob. he grades hard. the class isnt fair because the tas have diff point giveness. I struggled and got tutoring. Metzger likes to make the tests harder than the practice tests. GOOD LUCK young souls.
Metzger is a very nice and smart man but in all honesty should not be teaching. He is incredibly confusing, even on simple subjects. This class is hard, and you need to understand the material. If you are pre-nursing and need an A, I do not recommend taking him unless you get ALOT of tutoring. Take at a community college instead.
Metzger is a funny and random guy. This class is SOOOOOOO HARD AND CONFUSING.I almost gave up my major (Nursing) becase of this class. go to class, get a tutor, and go to all the review sessions. you nedd all the help you can get. Good luck!
No one went to lecture once Gabe started the tutoring. Prof had a monotonous voice that put everyone to sleep, but he's very nice and will try to explain things better if you ask him.
He was confusing ya but if you study and reviewing his ppt slides and going to all his office hours and Gabe before the tests you should be fine his tests are spit image of da prac tests!!!! he tends to go off tangent but you will start to get the hang of it in no time. He is open to any ?'s you may have but its tough it depends on u but gd stuff!
Wahhh, I didnt understand chem whatsoever when entering this class. Never went to lectures, Labs are lots of fun, but only if you get Victoria Almazon. Go to Gabe, he's the only way I passed with a B. Also make sure you find and befriend smart people that know their stuff from the getgo and be their homework partners! That halped my learning ALOT.
Worst class of my life. He is the nicest guy ever and tries his best to help, but he just cant teach this material. Go to Gabe if you want to pass and make sure to pay attention. Also, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!! he sometimes gave test answers in the hours right before an exam.
Lectures were useless unless he shows a video (usually after tests)or gives random quizzes at the end of the year. GO TO GABE! He is the only reason i passed the class. the money is well worth it.
He tried his best to teach the material but he doesn't really know how to teach... Go to Gabe before the exams! He's the reason I passed the class with an A and its worth the $10. I tried going to Metzgers tutoring towards the end of the year but he just confused me and focused on a few students questions... he also goes off on tangents a lot.
Metzger is nice but he can be confusing sometimes when he lectures but I still attended all his lectures because he would give hints of what might be on the exam. I got a B and the way I passed was going to Gabe's tutoring session which was $10 each session but worth it. Also, I printed out the power point slides that he posted and those helped.
Hope that all your professors care as sincerely as Dr. Met. Don't listen to the negative talk; do your own work; attend all lectures and take notes; do the homework yourself and THEN go to Gabe's sessions; never miss an opportunity to get extra help; don't be a hater; do the practice exams twice and READ THE TEXTBOOK. Grntd A to avg intelgnce.
he expects you to know too much. he doesnt get that its a lot of students' first chem class out of highschool. make sure to read the textbook AND his chapters and go to gabe. just pay attention and you will do fine.
I went to almost every lecture only because he gives pop quizes (which are simple) randomly, but I never, ever paid attention. Gabe is your only hope of clarifying the work. Just study the practice tests really well and you'll be fine. I pulled off an A easily, the material isn't too difficult.
This class is definitely a LOT of work, but if you put in your effort (a LOT of effort), it will pay off. He tries to prepare you for real situations that will happen when you become a nurse. He wants you to succeed as long as you do your part. Take the time to ask questions, he will help you. STUDY! I give him a red chili pepper!
ohmygod what can i say. he's really cool BUT...worst class of my life.okay i admit i'm not reallly a chem person buti really studied hard yet i got a C+!bad for nursing school!I got an A for both Anatomy and Physio but this class made my record soo bad.Super confusing take it @ community college..believe me!
First off, DO NOT GO TO GABE, he is getting extremely lazy and he only tells you things about the practice tests that DID NOT even match the real test. Metzger, he's a really nice man but GOD he cannot teach for anything. Work hard if you take this class, go to lab and make sure you pass your final! OR take the easy way out and take o chem at Mesa
it's true, he can't really teach. he's intelligent but he doesn't understand what his students are asking most of the time. STUDY IN GROUPS. that will save you. i only went to Gabe for the last 2 exam reviews but still got a high B. pop quizzes in lecture. pay attention & take good notes. read his powerpoints too! good luck!
He can't teach. Period. Labs and HW saves you. He loves to make tests super hard so you freak out about not getting close to the already curved grade. Pointless but NECESSARY for the SON. Gabe can clarify things you don't understand but he doesn't TEACH. Got a B, but definitely put in tons of effort.
I, for one, thought Dr. Metzger was great! Sure, the class was hella boring, but I think that's just because the subject being taught is hella boring. You get a hang of his teaching style, and it's really not that hard to get an A because all you need is a 83%. (But do take advantage of supplemental help.) Dr. Metzger is super funny too! (:
Metzger is extremely helpful and all of the people who constantly complain are just lazy..if you don't come to class and don't pay attention in lecture, if you don't help your group with the homework, then obviously you will not do so great. Do your work & youll do just fine.
TAKE CHEM 100 before taking this class! If Chemistry is challenging for you take chem. classes at a community college. The teacher used his own textbook which had numerous errors. Also he could not control his class. Lots of talking during lecture! And yes, there are A LOT of lazy people so avoid them at all costs! (Homework is done in groups)
Be sure to get in a good HW group! That's the only reason I passed because it was confusing to me. He talks slow and can talk about one problem the whole class. I never learned anything but stayed because he gives random pop quizzes. He has group office hrs. I listened to him because he goes over the answers for HW. Though not all cuz he's slow
This teacher and course can be pretty boring. Lectures are super long and dull. Make sure you get into a group that's dedicated to getting a good grade, because you guys will b doin some tough homework. Definitely go to Gabe's review before the exams, it's worth the money! Good luck guys =]
He is good but his monotone voice. omg this class is a drag to go too. go to class cause he gives out pop quizzes.
nice guy, HORRIBLE class. lab and homework saves you. he is really confusing and boring and doesn't explain things well. but make sure you go to class for the pop quizes. they are easy because he gives the answers before you turn them in. go to gabe and get another tutor if you can. you need all the help you can get. good luck!
Although this professor is extremely sweet he uses alot of "fluff". Even if you have an A in the class, if you fail the final, you fail the class. He is super confusing and often goes off on tangents about useless information. The ONLY reason i am passing this class at the moment is because of Gabe who tutors on fridays before exams.
Very Good guy but the class was horrible i could barely understand a thing he was saying if you really want to pass this class (which is extremely hard) your going to almost have to do it on your own or go to the TAs
His lectures are extremely boring since he has a tendency to ramble and go off on tangents. Your pretty much on your own so make sure to go to his/TA office hours. He gives random pop quizzes but answers them at the end. Homework is done in groups so make sure to get help if you don't understand.
Dont believe the lazy people who complain, an A is very possible. He is nice & caring professor willing to help. 5 ways to succeed: 1) Go to all of his office hours, he gives out answers and explains things 2) GO TO GABE'S TUTORING 3) Work together with other people on hw & in lab. 4) Go to lecture, sit in the front, listen to him 5) STAY MOTIVATED
this cause is not hard. you just have to learn how to take short cuts to get the answer and not really think about "how" to do it. lecture does not help. get a good homework group, and do the practice tests because that is what the real test looks like. go to gabe!
worst teacher i've ever had, hands down. he thinks its funny that his class fails. he makes mistakes whenever he tries to do an example of a problem. also if you go to his office hours he does not do individual question, only goes over homework questions with a large group of students.
He's a sweet man but his ability to clearly communicate concepts is lacking. He predominantly uses his own text which is not even written in the order he teaches the material. In order to do well, spend as much time as possible in the TA office hours, go to Gabe's review sessions, and make sure you understand the practice tests.
Extremely smart professor, unfortunately he teaches at his level and not at the student level so it makes it difficult to pass this course. Too much information on the test and not enough is covered to prepare you for the tests, so you have to teach yourself most of it or hire a tutor if you can afford it.
Pretty hard class. If you can take 100 first I would definitely recommend to do so. Teaches off his book and does not go in order. Gives answers to the pop quizzes but makes ALOT of mistakes during lecture. Hard to follow and very boring, but he does care about you passing. Tests and hw are very hard so get a tutor and go to office hrs!
I took Chem 100 prior to this class and it helped a ton. Got an A in the class by attending every lecture, going over my lab report every week with my TA to make sure I got 20/20 and NOT relying on him for help. Collaborate with other people and get help from your TA's when you don't understand a concept!
How to get an A: go to lectures and office hours, do all your lab work, get into a good hwk group and study with smart people. A is doable, you can fail 2 exams and still get an A if you do really well on the other exams. Big curve at the end. Get a tutor bc they are much better at explaining things than Metzger (seriously).
dr. metz is a terrible teacher in lecture, but a different story in office hours. if you want to pass this class you must go to office hours. the TA's office hours are useless. but he does care if you pass or not. but be prepared to study more than you ever have. totally possible to get an A if your dedicated =]
Prof. Metzger without a doubt knows his stuff. He cares more about you understanding concepts though so don't just expect to memorize a bunch of formulas and definitions. He can be hard to understand during lectures so it's better to go to his study sessions. Have a good study group before all exams and DO NOT get behind.
don't even need to go to class or study, tests are common sense pretty much easiest chem class ever
Hard to understand sometimes. You gotta take it if your a nursing major fasho
This class really isn't hard at all. The tests are common sense, lectures really aren't necessary, and the amount of studying required for the tests is minimal. I ended up getting an A in the class despite not studying for tests or going to class, and I'm just a regular guy
Professor is HORRIBLE at teaching. Know basic chemistry= you'll do fine. Go to class for pop quizzes (easy points, gives you the answers) Raymond's book not necessary, never even opened it. Metzger's book is useless except for the practice problems at the end of each chapter, Uses it on the tests. Got an A b/c high school chem teacher=GREAT
Be prepared to teach yourself. He's a smart guy, but he isn't very good at explaining the material...at all. Had to work hard for a B. I commend those who got an A in the class.
Sweet guy but not a great professor. You really need to put a lot of effort (if you do not have a strong chemistry background) to get a good grade. I received a B in the class. It helps to actually meet up with study groups and get a tutor! However, his grading/curves are amazing. As long as you put in the work and actually study, you'll do fine.
Metzger's very intelligent but the class is pretty difficult mostly because the book tends to omit steps necessary for understanding. You better be prepared to teach yourself. I went to all of his office hours, got a tutor, and repeatedly studied practice tests and homework. After all that, I got an A. It's not too bad, you just need discipline.
Metzger was not the easiest teacher at SDSU, that's for sure. Buy his book, but I survived the class without the Raymond book. Go to class for the pop quizzes, study as much as possible, and do well in the lab and on all assignments and you will do well. Tests are extremely hard and there is a big curve.
Very unclear and kinda jumps all over the place. This class is not impossible if you work hard. Find a way to go to Gabe he still tutors even if Metzger claims he doesn't. His tests are so similar to the practice tests sometimes the same questions and a large curve 84% is an A. He is so incredibly boring though and forget trying to ask questions!
he is boring and hard to understand in lecture. went to his office hours and he was more helpful, he goes through all/most of the homework problems. dont need to buy the text book. got an A and i never opened it. buy his book, thats what the lectures are based on.
Good Teacher
Lectures are hard to understand. He will repeat whatever is in the book, and if you dont understand the lecture, don't rely on his text, because, since he wrote it, is the same as the lecture. You REALLY need to rely on the TA's for homeworks!
Metzger is a nice enough guy, but is very hard to understand. As others have said, you must heavily rely on the TAs. If you go to his & TAs office hours, they'll help a lot.Attendance is basically mandatory, and besides free quiz points you don't get anything out of it. For nursing majors, this class is unavoidable, so brace yourself.
Really nice prof, brutally hard class. Don't get scott as a TA he sucks at explaining and just throws your questions back at you. MUST MAKE A STUDY GROUP if you have any chance of passing. and it has to be people in your lab so make friends the first day. For chem help, go to the STAR center!!!!!!
Great teacher! Great Curve!! He is very nice!!! and Fair
I have never written a rating, but he deserves one. He is probably the worst teacher I have ever had! He is so confusing! Expect to fail all the tests, but at least I got a B due to lab. Go to ALL office hours. And READ THE BOOK! (but honestly, try to stay away)
He's extremely knowledgeable, but too overqualified to teach this class. His class is hardly an "introduction to general organic and biochemistry" and you will need to rely on the TAs, good study groups, and self effort to actually learn ANYTHING. He might be the best teacher for any other chem class, but not this one.
It's not about understanding the class, it's about knowing how to get an A. Go to all the office hours from him and the TAs as you can, get a good study group, and if you can try and find tests from previous years and study those! It is doable so don't be too scared, I got an A but definitely had to work for it.
Save yourself the headache & take chem 100 + chem 130. I honestly wish I would've done that. an A is doable if chem is practically your only class. Did this with anatomy. Big mistake. B in anatomy and worked my butt of for a curved C in this class.
For those who are not willing to put in the work, this class will be difficult. Metzger is fair and very accessible. Big curve at the end so an A is possible.
Its a hard and stressful class but you end up with a decent grade cause the curve. I hadn't taken chem since high school and managed to get a B, but you have to teach yourself and have a good study group. It helps to have old tests also. Dont get behind after the second test because thats when it really gets difficult. and go to office hours!!
This class seems like money making scheme. Make the structure of the material so disjointed and complicated students will seek to hire 'tutors' and spend extra time and money out of lecture hours to seek teacher assistance. Brilliant. Hook students into purchasing a poorly written textbook written by the teacher that contains exam questions.
Worst professor and class I have ever taken. Tests barely reflect the practice tests and material he gives you. The book is a disjointed collection of random facts. I'm not going to waste anymore time being details because all you need to know is to NOT take this class with Metzger. Ever.
This was a challenging class but its possible to do well. Get a good study group because you will probably have to teach yourself!
Metzger is such a sweet old man! He's extremely helpful to those who seek his help. Do not slack off and really try to understand the concepts. This was a difficult class, but with TIME AND DEDICATION you'll do well. You can't slack off. Good luck!
Definitely a class that challenges your desire for this field of work. The one thing i took from this class was complete clarity that i am not cut out for this field. Seemed like a nice enough professor though, and eager to supplement help to those who seek it.
this class is literally brutal. may the force be with you
This class is purposely made to weed out people who can't handle the work load. Going to office hours are a must, and probably even more important than lecture. However, he is a cool professor and helps anyone who asks him. Definitely one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. When you take this class, make room for all of his office hours.
Professor Metzger is a dedicated professor. He answers ALL of your emails-makes time to meet with anyone who requests it. This is a VERY difficult class and you MUST study everyday and use resources outside of the texbook(s) to gain compete understanding. His tests are very challenging. YOU MUST GO TO ALL office hours - both TA and Professor.
Metzger is a kind enough individual, but is an awful teacher who is easily confused, makes countless mistakes, and is not very clear at all.
This class can become easy if you have the right resources. 1) Study previous exams from students who took this class 2) Actually read his lab manual w/ understanding 3) Work through practice problems. Yes going to office hours will help clarify material, but if all else fails memorize previous years exams (they don't change completely)
