This is a great class, you will learn a lot but beware this is a very tough one.
Didn't I see this guy out in the courtyard selling pretzels last semester?
Very Hard... fails everyone, and doesn't tell you the curve... LOTS of stress
Very hard... You WILL fail every test, and he won't let you know his curve...
Awful professor , if you go to him during his office hours he's no help!
Very hard teacher. I'm still figuring out the purpose of the class.
Don't do it...Don't even think about taking this guy
I go to class everyday, & understand, yet I can't pass the tests. So frustrating. An Econ 315 class shouldn't be this difficult at all. Learned more w/Stanley, & did much better too.
very though class. you might wanna think twice to take his class
C'MON! It's not as hard as everyone makes it out to be! There's no busy work, only 3 exams, and they're straight from his lectures (don't need the book). P.S. THE COMMENT ABOUT THE PRETZELS - THAT'S SO TRUE, LOL.
His teaching is very unclear, you can not read his lecture notes on the board. He never tells you what is on the test so you are confused on what you need to study for. Be very careful when taking this class he is not easy.
He's pretty unclear and confusing. The book doesn't help that much either. The tests seems short but he expects a lot from your answers.
I would not recomend this guy for Economics. If you want to learn then take somebody, else. I somehow managed to pull of a C in the class. He talks a lot about knowing events that are taking place.
If you did well in lower division econ classes, you should have no problem. Just have to go to class everyday. Exams are all from notes. Not a difficult class at all. Gives 4 midterms and a final. Allows you to not take 2 midterms and double the other two
You do not need a book for this class, all the exams are right off the lectures. Exams are in paragraph format, no scantron needed. However, he grades hard on the exam, hardly anyone get "A" on exams...don't take this class!!!!
This teacher is soooo random. He always talks about random things. His exams aren't too easy. You really don't need the book at all. Actually just save your money. Its all based on his lectures so be sure to take good notes. Good curve too. :)
Really, he is a great teacher! His knowledge of the subject matter is very strong. There are 4 test but you only have to take 2. The exams come straight from the examples given in class, and he is willing to help you if you ask.
GREAT! Stimulating lectures. Insightful examples, applicable in business world. If you want multiple choice exams instead of essays, you should go back to the community college.
Obviously a smart guy and knows his stuff, but in terms of teaching a class, was pretty clueless.... his notes are disorganized and it's really hard to figure out what he wants you to know.... everyone basically studied for his test the day before based on a "practice" test he gave out... tolerable
You do not need the book. You need to go to class and take thorough notes. His lectures are very confusing because you do not know what he is trying to get at, but it all comes together in the end. I went to class, only took 2 of his test (average of low B) and ended up with an A. I learned a lot of applicaple stuff. He is very smart.
This class is the hardest class ever. If you want an easy A, you better take another professor. You really don't know exactly what he is looking for on your essays. He grades very hard.
Very interesting class. Did not use the book at all. Take VERY thorough notes, though. Tests are based entirely off notes. Tests short essay form, relatively easy. Take good notes, study them and you should get an easy A
Take this class....I just finished summer session. I am not a econ lover but this guy was so easy to understand. Don't but the book...Just take good notes and study. I got a B and I had a difficult time with other econ classes. His tests are all essay but trust me it is easier than some of the tests that the other teachers give.
He is a good person and like to answer students' question. I got a B in his class in this summer session. Not good, also not bad
Wasted money on the book cuz you don't need it and the exams are all essay format. He's not clear on his lectures and is totally unhelpful and not friendly. If you want an easy grade, do not take him!!
Relates Real Life Examples with Economic Concepts in a manner which is easy to understand and easy to remember. He lectures like a storyline. I hated economics in the previous classes (201 & 202) and am grateful for Prof. Michaels format. Essay questions are not hard- Straight from Lectures and you are able to record him, if needed. No Book needed.
I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to understand the basic economic concepts and relate them to current events.Dr. Michaels teaches well and his lectures are easy to follow. He is smart and knowledgeable.
he's very helpful. talks a lot but very clear and helpful. do the examples, it really helps you on the test. tests are not very challenging--except for the final--which is doable but a killer! do take him. he's fun and interesting
Dr. Michaels is a great professor. He is always in his office to help you and the textbook is an excellent aid to his lectures. The three exams were essay format (two midterms and a final). If you attend class and take notes, this course is informative and relatively easy. I received an 'A'in his course.
He is a bit confusing but if you go to his office he will take his time to make sure you understand the concepts and don't fall behind. Make sure you take GOOD notes, read the book for clarification and to tie up loose ends. The problem is that some people waited until the last minute and that killed them. just keep up and you'll be fine.
Great professor. presents material well and you will never draw a diagram with S and D curves. go to class and make sure you do well on the first exam because it will be the easiest by far and it's worth the same as the rest. respectable guy, actually gets paid to tell peeps about econ, good teacher, I'd definitely recommend him, he gave me an A.
I don't recommend this professor because he isn't nice. He is very unclear and confused me. I think he is a good economist, but a bad teacher. You will have essay question exams, and you have to write what he wants. He doesn't curve and don't have extra credit. I didn't like the class at all, so don't take him.
Roberts is possibly the best economics professor at CSUF. Be prepared for great lectures, life lessons and economic diagrams to the highest degree. I purchased a 120 page notebook for the class, and his lectures literally filled it completely. I learned more in his class, then most of my other classes combined. Great professor, take him.
this teacher sucks. he thinks he's funny, but he's not. he will find every way to knock down points on your essays. when you seek help or ask questions he makes you feel stupid. DON't recommend
I took his class years ago. Either I got the class or not. So my grade was A and C. He's actually one of the more upfront talking and pseudo funny teachers I got. Don't fall asleep in class if you want to pass. If you want an A then bring your camcorder or have long notes and read the book. My disappointment with him is he failed to explain Enron.
He is nice but YOU HAVE TO STAY AWAKE during his lectures or you will fall behind. I recommend a voice or video recorder. Use examples from his lectures for essay questions on his exams, he likes that. I did not use the book (it confused me), still passed his class. No S $ D curves used! He uses real-life examples to clarify concepts.
this guy is a moron!! can't teach and hard to understand. definitely needs to be replaced !!!
good teacher very helpfull if you need extra clarifications. Dont buy the book b/c he is in the process of writing his own and its just like the lecures in class he lets you access his book online for FREE. test are 5 essay questions only, and ever ques. is straght out the lecture youll remember him talking about it if you pay attn.
he is boring.
I took this course summer last year and like it. It required lots of studying. He's cool too.
I would have to say I had my worst experience at CSUF in this class. I purchased the book to find that none of the materials were covered in the actual course. He used his own book from a PDF file on blackboard. I ended up failing the first test. I recorded his lectures, and studied his online book, still manage to fail the last two tests.Stay away
4 in-class ess. & 1 com. final, no EC or project, & no attendance either. He talks nonstop for 1:15 hours, all over places. Lecture is exactly from the book (30-40 pages/chapter) as if u really understand it => Drop out.
Test are hard but you only have to take 2of4 for a grade. No H.W. NO attendance. Hes writing the new book for Thompson so examples are right out of the book.
This guy has no mercy on his students. All his tests are essay. Don't need a book in his class. He likes to fail his students. Stay away if it's possible, unless you want F on your transcript. Very mean professor ever : (
Dr. Michaels is definately a great professor. If you need help, just ask him to explain (during office hours). 4 short tests and one cumulative final...all you have to do is write down exactly what he said during lecture and be sure to write a lot. Don't buy the book, pay attention in class 2 pass
Don't buy the book. Pay attention. Repeat his lectures back to him on the exams and you'll do just fine.
I completely hate Economics but he made the class bearable. A few people thought that he was unorganized/unclear. Personally, I thought he was clear and gave you as much credit as he can give you. His lectures are based on the book he is drafting but is not easy to read! Your best bet is to show up to class and review your notes for the exam.
Need PERFECT note taking skill to get good grade on test. MUST write down what he said in lecture on exam paper. No room for creation and imagination just copy everything. No need for text. If you get poor grade on 1st exam. Drop. Lecture is lengthy but talks interesting topic.
Very cool professor. Exams based entirely on lectures (except for anti-trust cases which were based on the book). Book useful for clarity. Very knowledgeable in his field. 3 exams (take at least 2 of 3). Be prepared to write down your own notes (Lots of them). No homework, attendance not mandatory (You will not get a good grade if you don't attend)
he is hard & mean! i studied so hard 4 the 1st test & after i felt really good about it.. i thought i would get an A..WRONG he grades based on his opinion! i got a low D!! even if what u write on exam is right if it is not exactly what he is looking 4 u will fail!cant have ur own mind & creative intelligent thoughts cuz he wants every1 2 copy him!
Attendance not mandatory, but if u want a good grade u need to attend b/c exams are soley based on lecture. No need for textbook, print his online. His textbook is hard to read, but it follows lecture. Easy class if u pay attention. Write lots of key words during exam and u will Ace it.
Worst teacher you will ever have. Has Annoying examples that he doesn't clarify. All information is done in Lectures. Note taking skills are a must, recording devices, and all other information useless. Don't look at practice exams, they don't help. Drop class immediately, he's not worth the heart burn and ulcers.
okay whomever commented down below is a lazy idiot. If you cannot pass 315, that is pathetic and on u. You must have great note taking skills, but all his exams are stricly from his lectures. His book should be a reference in case you do not understand his lectures. Most of the stuff is common sense.Take his class,it'll be worth ur while.
I think practice exams only works for the 1st exam. Other times dont look at them. Just study your notes period. This professor drinks a 44 oz soda all the times it makes me feel like i have diabetes.haha. strange but awesome professor.
doesn't assign hw, projects or even cares if you show up. but all test are based on his lectures. buy a digital recorder b/c u can record his lectures which help prep 4 test, if you use same terminology and use same examples he used, you'll get A or B on exams. I mostly got B's. he lets you drop 1 test out of 3 but makes you take the final no matte
This class will put your note taking skills to the max. Make sure you have a can of energy drink ready in your hands. Interesting material..!..
I actually really enjoyed this class. He is very intelligent & knows what hes talking about. no hw, no projects. tests are based only on his class lectures. you must take at least 2 of 4 tests & the final. if you go to class & review your notes, you should get an A or B. can get boring, but if you have common sense, this class should be easy
dry sense of humor, lectures straight off of his yet-to-be-published textbook (so don't buy the recommended textbook, unless he finally publishes HIS own), incomprehensible handwriting, exams based on lecture and HIS yet-to-be-published textbook. recommended with a caveat: poor note takers need not apply.
He is extremely knowledgeable, sometimes even condescending. He is very proud of writing his own textbook and each and every word of lectures and tests is based on it (the other, official textbook is mostly useless). You MUST take a ton of notes and tape-recording is highly recommended. Test questions are interesting. Overall highly recommended.
He is very smart. He makes Economics easy to understand. He also uses real world examples and his real life experience to teach the subject. I did not buy the book because his tests are based on his lectures. I strongly recommend you get a recorder and take good notes. I strongly recommend him. People who wrote a bad review are just slackers.
Professor Micheals is one of the best professors I had in my academic life. He explains economics in a very unique way. You will learn how to reverse engineer everything around you. Make sure to record the lectures--that really helped me get a deeper understanding of the material.
His lectures are pretty interesting with real life examples. You will need to take good notes and pay close attention. If you are interested in what he has to say this should not be a problem. His test are essay question based on his lectures and you have option of not taking one. no homework or projects.
I liked his class because he has an interesting view of life. His approach really helped me to relate the concepts to my own experiences. His exam are directly related to his lectures and his book. Take good notes, go to all the classes, and record the lectures and you'll be fine.
Horrible horrible horrible teacher. He just wants to show off the book that he got published, couldn't care less about his students. He knows his stuff but only teaches to make money. I would email him my Questions and he never replies.
One of the best professors I have ever had. His view on economics is unique and very useful in the real world. This is one of the best classes I have had. His track record says a lot also, so you know he knows what he is talking about. Funny guy too.
If you go to his class and take good notes, you will be fine. His tests are short answer format. I got a B
plz do not take him. u really have to love econ to pass this class. the tests are hard as hell you need to explain everything in the test!!!! he just want to prove that ECON is the best major in the world ...
you need to study hard for every test. only 6Q on the test but you need to explain every Questions. it's hard don't take him.
:( I think I'm going to drop his class. it's really hard. the test has nothing to do with his lecture!!!
How is this guy still teaching? What is really bad is he uses his own book which is b-o-r-i-n-g and full of mistakes. I am an A student and got my first-ever B in his class. His lectures are disorganized and he simply cannot relate to students. Avoid!
Very interesting class. I recommend him. 3 tests. allows you to drop one and he will inflate the grades of your other two tests. No homework. Tests are 8 short answer and you only have to answer 6. 28+/36 is an A on the test.Take very good notes. Only tests you about what he talks about. Read chapter summaries. Always use his examples on his tests
This class is very hard!!!Do Not Take this teacher!!U won't pass,even u do and won't get a good grade....Avoid!!!!
GooooooD LuccccKKKK....you will need it. If you like economics you will prolly love him. Hard professor. MUST study alot.
Not as hard as others think if you really want to learn. Tests are all from his book and he tells you what parts to study. Prof. Michaels is enthusiastic about Econ but teaches in a monotone. I learned a lot in this class. Take it if you truly want to learn
He is a great economist. But a bad teacher. His wording structure is really really bad and really complex. But you still have to memorize his study guide (w/ his complex sentence structure). He uses complex examples too. But he knows what he is doing. Textbook is boring and has a lot of mistakes.
This class really is not that difficult. I hardly went to class and easily got an A. All you have to do is read the book and review his slides. Class consists of three exams and a final; with a mix of multiple choice and essay. He had a huge curve. Has the biggest curve I've ever seen...75% and up was an A.
Prof. Michaels is brilliant , teaches you to think in an unconventional way. 3 test make up 60% of the grade and a cumulative final.Tip for doing well is to try and think the way he does , he wrote the book , understand how he draws conclusions . Understand how things link together.Hard class, very conceptual . Memorizing will only take you so far
He can not explain himself clearly. It seems that he doesn't like student asking any questions at all. And even sometimes he is not in his office during the office hour. Maybe he just teaches for selling his book.
I attended maybe 40% of the time. 3 Exams 1 Final. Curves all test. Test are Multiple choice, short and long answer. the challenging part is the multiple choice, not the short/long answers. Most points are in the short and long though.power points and sample test help you look for answers you should be giving and how to tackle his test. got a B
The text book is hard to understand, but just attend the course, listen to the class, take notes, the exams are not hard, just study the slides and notes, and do the old practice exams...you will be fine
Awful professor. Unhelpful, and is rarely in his office during office hours (I tried 4 times). The short-answer tests (4 of them) make up the entire grade. He grades those very subjectively. I would not recommend him to anyone. Economics is my strength, and he misses many key points. I think he only teaches to sell his bad book.
The person below me clearly overestimates their own economic abilities. I have little to no interest in Econ but found this class to be very, very interesting. He was literally, ALWAYS in his office, and was more than willing to answer my questions. He has a massive curve- I really don't see how anyone could complain about this class.
Got an A, near perfect on test.Don't bother reading the materials he didn't cover in class. Tip:write like how he speaks, use his examples. He wrote the book , mimic the logic. Michaels is a smart man , just a bit unapproachable with little tolerance for messy writing. Be clear and use book terms.
Prof Micheals teaches Economics the old school, ivory tower kind of way. I dont mean that as a compliment. He wants answers on his test exactly on how he would answer them. Putting your answers in your own words is a BAD idea. His class is incredibly boring which is sad because I love economics. Overall, a poor teacher, but a smart guy.
This class is very boring, his text book is full of errors and it is hard to unerstand. If there is a better professor teaching this class then avoid taking Michaels.
He loves his book... lectures are completely unhelpful..don't go to class+read book+read power points=good grade. VERY VERY boring lecture, make me think of the KMN in big bang theory.
Tests require you to think and apply what you have learned. They are not hard, but generally you can't just be a parrot and repeat what you memorized. He sticks to the text...he wrote it after all. Attend the lectures and read the text and you'll do fine. In our class, he used a pretty generous curve. He's a good teacher.
The information Dr. Michaels teaches is a very helpful way of understanding the economic impacts in business. Read the book, study your notes, and review the powerpoints. Focus on the first two exams and they will give you breathing room for the third and final exams. Once you grasp the conscepts they are pretty straight forward. He is very smart.
His book is confusing but he is pretty clear with his concepts. Material for the first and third exam is easy but the second one is hard. You will have to listen to him in order to pass the class. Focus on the concepts not the details. Also making notes in the class is going to be very helpful
Great professor. You will have to listen to him in order to pass. thanks to him I have built an interest in micro. He makes the class very easy.
Here is one of the best Econ profs that I have had. Very clear with concepts. Makes you think. Do not expect definitions in this class. Read book twice before taking his exams and do not miss class because he lectures well.
The subject is very raw. The class has no homework, no papers, no group work, no presentations. Your grade is dependent on 3 exams & a final: all short essay, though you can opt out of one exam with no penalty. I didn't buy or read a single word in the book. I studied the power points, answered his Q's using power point examples & aced the course.
Great professor! Expects you to read his book, which is unusual from other books because it does not have definitions in it but that's the interesting part about his book. He helps a lot during his office hours and write short answers in the exam. Take lot of notes that will help.
This class was no joke. At first it seemed great - no homework, don't need the textbook, no projects, just 3 tests and a final. But the tests are all short answer. About 6 questions each and every test is 20% of your grade, the final is 40%. If you are well-versed in economics you might be okay, if you're not do not take. He was very hard to follow
his style is humorous, but his lecture is not clear. there is key word and main point in class, however, his explanation is not clear. you really need to depends on you self to read book. by the way he doesn't give + or - for every grade. it is not fair.
What is the point to go to class. His textbook is exactly like his lecture. Neither the book nor his lecture were clear, making the test was hard to prepare.
He does not care if you go to class or not. Kind of old fashioned. 3 mini test and one final. You can opt out of one mini test. To be honest you can just read the book and do the practice problems and still pass. Not really into answering questions, still nice enough.
If you are an Econ major take this professor. His tests are straight forward but don't expect the study guide to reflect them. Lectures are long is an understatement. The material is difficult and his style of teaching is very dry. If you cannot grasp the material after the first test, DROP THE CLASS. It is not going to get easier or better..
This might as well be an online class because you will need to teach yourself. There is no homework/exercises. The professor rambles A LOT. He claims he's going to explain why certain things are important but everything is convoluted. 3 tests worth 20%, you can opt out of 1. Final is 40% and contains material that was never covered in class.
He wants you to think outside the box vs. traditional econ, and going to his lectures and reading the textbook makes you do jus that. Don't think you can study the night before and nail A's on his exams. They're tough, but very doable if you understand key concepts he puts on practice exams. If I could, I would like to take another class with him.
Professor Michaels was by far one of the best economics professor at Fullerton. His exams are all written, but he gives you previous exams and finals for you to study off. He actually applies real life examples to the concepts he is trying to portray, which is hard to come by. If you do take his class, make sure you go to office hours.
3 short answer tests and you can opt out of one. Helpful study guides. Reasonable human being. The subject is dry and challenging but that isn't Michaels fault. He's pretty cool.
If you're good at reading a book and essays you'll do fine. I haven't been in school for 25 years so it was tough for me. All conceptual ideas for the essay but very predictable. I skated by with a C even though he could have given me a D. I attended all classes but didn't realize the power of recording lectures till too late.
Ask yourself why he says what he says and try to understand it from his point of view. There are 3 short answer midterms and 1 final and you have the option to opt out of one of the midterms. Try to do well on the 1st two to give yourself some breathing room. His grading criteria isn't very clear, but if you can answer in his style, you'll be ok.
Michaels is a very good lecturer. He provides plenty of examples to drive his points home. the class has 3 exams & 1 final - nothing else. understand his examples and go to class - he always mentions extra things that you could include in exams that will drive your points up. he's helpful & willing to listen if there are problems.
class is 3 tests and 1 final. Allows you to skip 1 test and take the average of the two tests that you do take. Professor teaches based off his own textbook, so it is important to read the textbook. Go to lectures to hear his examples as they are usually on the test. Tough grader but easy to pass with some effort.
He does not teach this micro-econ class the usual way. Class if very conceptual and he does apply the concepts to current and past events and gets you to think outside the box. Read the materials and record his lectures and DO review daily. For me, I had to discuss the concepts with the professor and classmates to make sure I understood the concept
Very dry subject, presented dryly. Not a bad guy, pretty generous with grades. I left every test feeling horrible, but got a A's and Bs. 25/36 is a B. Overall B in the class. He wrote the book and created the powerpoint, so attendance isn't necessary because his book is exactly what he says in class. Super boring, but I'd take again. Easy B
He's nice and enjoys the subject matter. Unfortunately, it's pretty obvious that he has no clear direction in how he wants to teach the class. He tried something new by spreading the content between the textbook and his own personal book. This was confusing as some of the content contradicts to what the other book was stating. Do not recommend.
Great professor with a lots of care for his students. His class is synchronous and questions are answered at any point. Literally in the middle of a lecture, you can ask him a question and is beyond nice to answer. Lectures are recorded and sheet is allowed during in-class exams. Can get challenging but don't be afraid to ask. Study guides given!
