Best Professor I have ever had! Class is very hard, but if you take his advice and study 30 minutes a day for it, you will not have a problem. Teaches you how to study, great preparation for a four year university.

i think he is a good teacher. it just takes the 30 min a day and you will be fine. he gives you what is needed for the tests so if you don't pass then you really did not pay attention to what he said. study notes that's all it takes.

A good teacher. Everything that you are tested over comes directly from the notes and study questions you are given. TONS of notes... but he writes them down also. I enjoyed the class and i now like rocks. He is very random with the jokes he tells. A goofball that loves his animals (cats and dogs).

Easy to understand lectures & lab assignments. Quizzes & tests are easy as long as you take diligent notes and complete the mini-quiz questions (MQ questions comprise the final). Making good grades is simple as long as you subscribe to his "30-min/day" study routine. Lectures are long but thorough; lots of "old-man" humor but amusing & enjoyable.

Although there is no attendance policy, there are regular quizes and the tests are based on the lecture notes/slides so attendance is necessary. Prepare to memorize a lot of information and to take notes every lecture! Extra credit is available for all exams in the form of note cards-tedious, but worth the effort. Group Labs-choose a good partner!

I think he is a sweet teacher. he has a whistle when he says his s's and his jokes are old but he tries...if you dont like writing and dont want to study then dont take this class

ok first off the other comment are not fair. this class was a breeze. i took both sections and aced them. not only did i ace them i did not even try i made the cue cards in class instead of taking regular notes and i would not study them and the mini quiz questions till after class before lab. he is a very caring and helpful teacher. take mims!!!

Both of his classes are absolutely amazing. He is the teacher who taught me how to study for college. He actually even got me interested in rocks. How funny is that? He's amazing! Dr Mims was great-easy to get good grades. He very clearly gave us all we'd need to know for tests/mini quizes etc. Do the Q cards and study a little each day and you've at least got a B--probably an A- He's nice and cares about his students and tries to make it interesting and fun--Take him!

Dr. Mims is the best! I have taken both of his classes and if you apply yourself you should have no problem making an "A"! He tests over notes and worksheets, so as long as you do those things well, you can do it! If you are lazy and do not want an education, you need not apply. He is funny and quirky! He does care but you have to, too.

I was terrified to take this class after reading the reveiws but I'm so glad I did. He is a really nice guy and the lessons are very clear. Just show up and take notes, there's a quiz every week in lab and you'll have no problem. I don't know why anyone wouldn't like him or his class unless you're just lazy and expect a free A.

OMG! Every1 who posts bad reviews is just lazy! If u study his notes 4 a few hrs ea wk then its an easy A! About 90% of his ?s come frm the notes & the rest frm the bk. This Professor has been rated since 2003 and from what I have read, he is the same. Yes, you will have to memorize everything, yes he has dry humor, but I enjoyed it. If you study once a week and not necessarily every day as he suggests, you will make an A. If you are a person that can't keep up should go next. I strongly recommend him.

Mr. Mims is the best geology professor for both GEOL 1403 and 1404.. you take in class notes from ppt and memorize it before each lec quiz.. He is one of my best prof. i have ever had... I really enjoyed him. No exams, just a small quiz each week over the powerpoint notes he gives you to memorize. the more you attend the more helpful he is. Some might say he is stern, but I beleive that's only because he knows he's a pretty easy teacher. Plus, he is very interesting... he teaches really interesting things about the world.

Professor mims class is cut and dry. Study and memorize notes, and labs. Be prepared to work hard for your grade, he will not hand anything to you. He is funny, but sometimes can be a little rude..Take his class if you want to learn and are willing to learn how to study

I took the online Geology course. I loved the course, extremely flexible people, lecture notes very clear and also same as the book readings, and also the quizes. The reading is also okay, even for me I hate to read, but the chapters go by quick. I recommend taking online version of course.

He is the best professor I have had so far! His class is simple everything is based off of his power point lectures.Just copy the information he tells you to copy and study it and you will do well. Lab hardly ever goes for the full time if you work with your lab partner. No homework ever! Just study your notes. It was a very interesting course!

Professor Mims is extremely knowledgeable and often injects humor into class. The lecture comes from power point and the information is current, the testing comes entirely from the lecture notes. Great professor! The course is easy if you are an organized student. Heavy workload but some time management will get you an A b/c the material is quite easy. There were 5-6 small quizzes for each chapter that you could take as many times as you need to get a satisfying score. Email responds are very fast. Recommended for those taking GEO online

I took his online class. I was not a hard class. It an open book test and quiz. The quiz's can be taken repeatedly. The test questions come from the quiz's. There is no reason why someone shouldn't do well. You do need to read the book. It is also a real self pace course, we had some students finish couple of weeks before the final.Great!

Awesome online class! Professor Mims is terrific. He stays in contact via email and he is witty. The SI/II session was not self-paced - deadlines each week. Read the textbook. Quizzes/Tests are open-book, but I wouldn't call them all easy. You can retake mini-quizzes as many times as needed to get a better grade, but not chapter quizzes.

Take this class if you need a science credit! He is a great professor... quite funny and very clear about what he expects you to know for the quizzes. No tricky business. Not to mention this subject is interesting enough and easy to understand.

Highly recommend Professor Mims. He is very knowledgeable and gives good lectures. Weekly lecture quizzes come directly from the notes with bonus questions taken from pics in the text. Labs could be hard (I am not great at identifying rocks) but were fair. If you don't interrupt class, you can make up or retake some low grade quizzes at the end.

This class contains 16 chapter tests plus 16 labs. Also every chapter includes 4-5 mini quizzes. It is not an easy class for sure.

This is my second online class with Prof. Mims - Oceanography was less fun (and a bit harder) for me than Geology 1401. Expectations are spelled out crystal clear. He's a good professor and stays in contact with his students. I recommend his online geology classes.

I took his online class for oceanography. A bit confusing at the beginning but overall spelled out what you need to do and when you need to do it. You get the hang of it. I would recommend his online class to anyone looking for a science credit. It was an interesting subject and good to know.

Professor Mims was extremely helpful and always responded immediately to my questions. I really enjoyed this class. I gave "Easiness" a middle score. The material was all new to me and very challenging but it was all from the book so you're okay on the tests as long as you read it all in detail and don't just skim it. Great professor!

The one thing I did not like about this class was not being able to complete assignments ahead of the weekly schedule. I travel for work, and like to work ahead of schedule prior to the weeks that I know I will be on the road traveling.

I took this class online. It was kind of difficult for me, but I'm not really a science fan. It was a pretty good course over all. I didn't find the proffessor particularily helpful, but then I never asked for help. I did think that the labs were too lengthy, and I didn't like how it would never show you which questions you got wrong.

I highly recommend taking Geology 1401 online. You just study each section of the chapter and take quizzes. The labs can be tough and time consuming. If you are not a science person and still want to make a good grade, this is a great class to take. Mr. Mims gives several extra credit opportunities as well.

You have to be in class to take your own notes. The quizzes are straight your notes. Very easy class depending on you. Some random jokes are delivered when taking notes and lab is explained neatly. You gotta take this class.

Professor Mims is very good professor and very knowledgeable. Attendance is mandatory, you dont need a book, basically you will learn from power points. There are a lot to memorize, every week. Took this class with Professor Mims online during the summer. The class is not hard, but requires a little time dedicated each week to reading the textbook. Grades were mostly online quizes and labs for each chapter. Most of the content is easily found in the book. Graded content is primarilly untimed and open-book. Professor Mims is a good prof.

The class is pretty easy as long as you read the chapters. Most of the time you can finish the entire week of work in about 3 hours.

Took this online course towards science graduation requirement. The difficulty was minimal, but it does require some tedious research or google-ing. I would say the work load and the time required to complete everything is fair. He's very quick to respond as well.

Took during Summer 1, good class to take if you need another science class. Easy to follow class, everything was laid out, if you have your material you will make at minimum a B. Communicated to the class well, and often. Labs kept this class more interesting than other online courses, I really enjoyed it!

Professor. Robert Mims is excellent professor if you care for learning, fair if you do your work, being on time helps because he starts lectures right on time.

Professor Mims really takes care of his students. No textbook is needed. instead he shows his super well-prepared powerpoints during class and all you need to do is to take notes. Pay attention to what he explains about specific examples since some of them will be on each quiz. He tells you interesting stories & useful tips regarding topics!

I took his class for spring online, and its pretty easy class. His quizzes and tests has no time limit so you can take as long as you want. There are labs every week, which is not that hard.

Weekly lab and quiz (quiz can be taken only once). If you miss a question and really want to know the correct answer he will not provide for fear of cheaters... missed learning opportunity. There was one group project, wasn't too hard. He was really nice, answered emails quickly and sent out encouraging emails. I would totally take him again!

I didn't receive an A, but it's a real easy class. There was never any homework or classwork that required outside time. He gives tons of extra credit.

I would DEFINITELY reccomend taking professor Mims, he is amazing at giving lectures, there is no homework. There are open note lab quizzes each week, so show up to class and take notes, and you should get good grades on your labs. Professor Mims also gives lots of extra credit!

One of my favorite classes, some of the material was complicated but as long as you try theres no reason to not pass. A quiz every week, lab and two parts for the midterm and final.

I took this class in Summer I. He really is an amazing teacher if you want to learn. If I had to take another Geology class I would take him. However, you do have to work hard memorizing rocks and studying for quizzes every week.

He's a pretty straight forward instructor, in my class all you had to do is show up and take notes. He gave the class what they needed to pass with straight forward directions. He was straight forward with the information and told us what was important and what was going to be tested on. I really enjoyed his class.

Easy online class! The labs can be confusing, but even if you get something wrong 9 times out of 10 youll get credit. Quiz answers are on quizlet, reading the book isnt necessary. But, some questions can only be answered with the book, and its only a $45 amazon rental so I recommend having the book. Weekly online discussions are easy as well.

No homework, but a lecture quiz every week. You can take the quizzes open book, but if you do them closed book you only have to answer 10 questions. He gives AMPLE opportunities for LOTS of extra credit. Does take some studying, but I definitely would not say it was hard. And his lectures are hilarious.

This class was an easy A if you show up, take notes, study the notes, and do the lab work (which is extremely easy) you will pass. It's as simple as that. Plus the professor was extremely nice. P.s . If you are someone like me who is lazy then you should still pass, because i did. There is no excuse for not passing this class.

I took this course after being out of high school for many years, so I shopped around on this website before I chose this professor. There is a lot of work. However, its just a part of the curriculum for this course. I gave him the highest rating because he did not go out of his way to make the course harder on you. Youll have to buy the lab kit.

Good professor. Very clear instructions. When I submitted the wrong doc, he quickly replied to email and re-opened the portal. Due dates weren't too strenuous for a summer 2 course. Everything was well spread out. Quizzes had info straight from textbook. Didn't feel like an accelerated 5-week summer course.

Unlike some online classes I had to actually had to think critically about the material. It was a nice change.

Good Prof! You have to attend lecture to get the notes that will be on the open-ended quizzes ( WRITE EVERYTHING THAT'S IN RED ON PPTS.). Write notes in a composition notebook for extra credit. Easy class if you study a bit everyday. You CANNOT fail! No book, but lab book mandatory. Make friends and study groups (makes the class fun and easy).

Professor Mims is an AMAZING professor! You won't need a textbook as all the notes are in the PowerPoints (in red). You will need a composition notebook to write your notes in. Mims starts class right on time so don't be late. If you have a problem with something he is always willing to help! I would take this professor again in a heartbeat!

EZ class. No textbook as he gives the notes on powerpoint and points out important info. Weekly quizzes which helps out vs Exams. IF you make flashcards or use quizlet to make notes, you will make an A with ease. Put in effort in the early quizzes, that way you won't have to struggle making A's on your quizzes. Went from D to B+, Learned alot!

Took this as an online course, aside from the labs (which we had to do at home), everything was fairly understandable.

Professor Mims was a great teacher for my geology class. He was very specific on what needed to be done, and he was on top of things for class. He made geology interesting.

I had weekly quizzes on each topic which made it easier to pass the course. We didn't have exams where we would have to study heavily. Just weekly quizzes on topics we had covered.

Excellent course. I learned things that I never really thought much about like, mountains, rocks, oceans, earthquakes, and how and why they are formed. The class instructions were very clear on what was expected. I highly recommend this course.

Took this class online may term and easiest class ever. Only 6 labs, 12 quizes of 20 questions each, 4 discussions that require minimal effort and final exam. Most answers can be found online supper convenient. Professor Mims was great with communicating when things were posted or if any changes were done and replies fast to any emails. Recommend!

Good Professor, he will shoot you straight every time if you want to get an A you need to put in the work like an adult. His class is fun but you need to study for weekly tests. The labs are cool and the class notes / lectures are fairly entertaining. Solid choice.

I took this class online and it was super easy. Just turn in your works on time and read. The quizzes and test are based off the book.

Professor Mims' class was enjoyable. There are weekly quizzes on lab days as well as a few tests and one simple group project, but they aren't anything difficult as long as you go over your notes and pay attention in lab. I'm not sure how his class works online, however. In person, he was great.

I loved Professor Mims Earth Science class online. He is passionate about Geology. He grades your work in a very timely fashion which I appreciate and will give extra points for assignments that are done very thoroughly. No Maymester workload is easy but I thought the workload for his class was manageable and never felt overwhelming. Fun labs too!

I took his online class in the summer. He was very organized. He made it simple for a student to understand. He is the very best Earth- Science professor who is the students rock. (what I mean is he is helpful and will support the students) if you need to take GEOL 1401 take him. You will not regret it.

I was swapped to Professor Mims class last minute and was unable to order my lab set in a timely manner. He was very understanding and easy going. Every lab that was turned in was returned back to us with feedback. If you read your book, the tests will come easy. This was a nonstressful course. I highly recommend taking Geology with Professor Mims.

He was a great professor! He comes up with all the lectures and labs himself, so no textbook or lab notebook was needed. I took him online for Summer I so everything was a little fast paced, but he is very organized and replies to emails quickly. Definitely DEFINITELY definitelyyyyy recommend!

Prof. Mims is great! I took him for an online class because I needed a science credit for a non-science major - and it was so much simpler than I was expecting. His deadlines and expectations are clear & simple. Notes were posted online in the simplest format possible. All you have to do is read and follow basic instructions. 10/10 recommend!

This professor was probably the best one at Richland by far. He knows what he is talking about and helps you understand. He has so many extra credit opportunities that you do not want to miss out on. If he taught any other courses at Richland, I would be the first one on his roster. I took his class in the Spring of 2020. BEST PROFESSOR

I took this class online due to Corona. GIves out a lot of homework but they're mostly all very easy quizzes. Very straight forward class, learn the material and do the homework and labs. The final group project is also fairly easy just requires research and organization.

This class was a real eye opener. Then again, what science class isn't. I took this class online for the wintermester. I really didn't know what to expect. I really enjoyed learning about rock formations. I personally like knowing the why factor and this class was a why factor overload. The professor was very quick to respond.

If you go to Richland college and need to take geology. You need to take this professor. Hes the best professor Ive ever had. He takes in account everything you turn in and loves the effort you give without comparing to others. He wants you to pass as much as you want to, exactly why he opens up previous work just to help and gives extra credit.

Professor Mims is a very god professor. I really liked his class. I was not stressed during this class, I really enjoyed it. Also, he gave us extra credit, and he responds quickly to emails. I recommend him at 100 percent , I swear you will not regret it.

Professor Mims class was easy, but you do have to read the text and do the labs. It is not a difficult course. He made it stress free while we are in a pandemic and is very considerate.

Professor Mims was a really great professor. If you need to take lab science, I 100% recommend taking geology with this professor. When my lab kit didn't arrive until mid-semester, Professor Mims worked with me and helped me catch up. Just do your work (which is actually really fun!) and you will definitely pass with an A!

MIMS!! Sweet prof!!! Debated giving him a 2 for difficulty. Took online (covid). He gave us textbook and lab kit for free. Emailed back pretty quick. Class got difficult, but not bad (didn't read the textbook, but should have - would have made it easier). Great pick! He had to change his syllabus, but the original had cartoons and jokes! :D

As a student coming back after years of being out of school, I was very grateful to have been in Professor Mims class! Took Summer 1. Great teacher. Class book was unnecessary but I'm very thankful for his notes that he provided for each quiz and lab assignment. The only con is that sometimes the note charts where confusing to understand w/the questions he was asking so due to errors I missed a question here & there. Quizlet helped a lot. Easy class. Responds fast.

I usually dont trust these sites but I am glad I did when it came to my geology professor! It was an amazing class super easy if you followed instructions professor responded immediately and everything was clear as water ! Wish there was a 1402 but hopefully I get someone as great!

Just had Geology with Professor Mims over Summer 1. The class was perfectly spaced. The labs were easy to understand and complete. He grades on time and gives you prompt feedback. Wish all professors were as organized as him.

I enjoyed this class. During a Summer term, I took this class plus an accounting class. Professor Mims provided an online learning experience that was interesting and educational. The quizzes,labs and discussions, help one to gain an understanding of each objective in a straight forward approach. Best science teacher, I have had.

Professor Mims was great for taking a summer class. He gives beyond ample opportunity to get an A, not pass, get an A. With limited interaction due to it being online he left you with the impression you were still not alone if you needed help. I really can't express how much I like this man. If you take him, you will feel the same way.

most of the grade comes from quizzes over the lecture, but he highlights whatever info needs to be put in your notes so you're all set as long as you write it down. all the assignments are easy and you get plenty of time to complete them, plus there's plenty of extra credit. i'd totally recommend him if you're new to geology.

Took Professor Mims for an 8-week online class for fall of 2021. Very easy class. As long as you get all your work done and in time (which is not a lot), you will easily get an A. No tests given. You'll only need the textbook for chapter quizzes.

Lectures are a bit heavy, also taking notes will be required so it kinda tends to get exhausting. Other than that he's a good teacher, easy to work with, tends to crack jokes to lighten up the class.

A good class with clearly laid out material in the lectures that you have to take online quizzes over, and gives you plenty of practice for the Mineral, Rock, and Map quizzes, so if you pay attention in Lecture and go to labs, you should have no trouble getting an A in this class and learning a lot about the world around you and rocks.

Professor Mims is fantastic! The assignments are easy, just read the chapters and do your work. He also gives extra credit. Do all of your work and use the extra credit on the last week to your advantage to get your grade up even higher. He also is quick to answer emails and he cares about you as a person. Professor Mims' class was easy enough & interesting. I did have to read and some of those chapters were lengthy. But a week to get the work done is feasible. You will not have to buy a textbook since you are given an e-book. Don't pay for the book, he says the same. Attendance is not mandatory since it was an online course. I would take him again!!

Took this course online and Professor Mims does a great job of creating a consistent schedule for what is due. Sure there is a bit of reading, but what is expected is reasonable. Attend class, take good notes, and study. I made study questions and that helped. Dr. Mims is passionate and interested in his classes and I really liked both him and his topic a lot. I feel that some of the content in his quizzes were not that relevent to the topic at hand sometimes, but you just need to work hard. He taught me to love geology.

Dr. Mims can be difficult with quizzes covering obscure material, but he is truly interested in his topic and has his students interested as well. He is lecture-heavy but tells you what you need to take notes on. Lab is the only time to get points with weekly activities and quizzes. Get interested in the topic, answer questions, and work hard!

This was an online course that I took. The prof is funny and responds to emails about the coursework in a timely manner. The class is super easy and informative. I was able to learn tons about the earth in this class. There were readings and lengthy quiz for each chapter, but it was just over the information from the book. The "labs" are lightwork

His quizzes are meant to see if you are an active listener in his lectures.This class is a big commitment in that you have to read your notes daily up to three or four times a day to score well. The exams were straightforward and not hard. If you can remember well, you can pass this class without a doubt.
