He is an amazing teacher! Easy to understand and relate to, his lectures are enjoyable and keep you on your toes. Every week you'll be assigned about 3-5 short readings and be asked to post 1 comment or question on blackboard on any of the readings for a participation grade. It takes little time and the readings are interesting! Would take it again
Professor Moorehead is an engaging lecturer and gentle grader, but he has some very strong (usually liberal-leaning) social and political opinions that he makes little-to-no effort to differentiate from the factual content of his lectures. Take any information that seems suspect or controversial with a grain of salt.
He is definitely passionate about sociology. However, I do not believe that he understands that sociology is not every students major. Homework consists of 3-4 books to read from each week and blackboard discussion once a week. No tests. No other homework. Which does not prep you for the tests that matter. Midterm and final. The rest is all lecture
He is very energetic and humorous in class. Classes are slightly repetitive and it helps to take notes. As long as you do the readings assigned the multiple choice on the tests are clear. The readings assigned are the most important to do because he relates the lectures, essays and tests to them!
Great person but as a teacher, ehh. his lectures get right to the point and he will let you know what to expect on the midterm and final tests. He makes you ready 5-6 chapters a week and then do a discussion board on it every week and those readings will be on the tests but you dont know exactly on what. which sucks.
moorehead is a cool man but not the best teacher. he definitely expects all of his students to be sociology majors. his lectures are long but not horrible to sit through for 50 minutes. if you dont like to do the readings (and take notes on them) dont take this class. my grade SUFFERED because of the readings.
He's a funny guy with a good heart. He wants everyone to pass. He brings fun pop-culture references into lecture with videos and songs. There are a lot of different textbooks to read for this class- STAY ON TOP OF READING! Tests are basically all on the readings, and participation points come from BB discussion on readings. Likes Japan a LOT.
good teacher, but in my opinion, takes Intro to Socio a LITTLE too seriously. He assigns loads of reading for every class that take up lots of time. I think I have spent more time on this 3-credit class than I have on most of my 5-credit classes. He's a good teacher and the lectures are interesting but he overloads on the homework and pop quizzes
He really cares about his students, and expects students to do their part. If you're slacking, you'll miss out. If you need help, he'll really try to help you. He loves sociology and his passion is inspiring. Expectations are clear and the workload is fair.
great class. learned a lot. lotsa fun. wants students to do well. will work with you to help you along.
Not the best professor. He seems too concerned with his views over any one else's, and if you have to take this; appeal to a liberal stance on everything or else he will grade you as if you don't know what your talking about. Way too bias!! Everything is written in the class. So it makes it easy to discriminate students based on his interpretation.
Robert is a nice guy but he don't care about you're grade. Didn't even warn me I was going to fail. Gives you many readings for every class- not short ones either. He gives pop quizzes when he knows it's a lot of readings and no one will do them. He is VERY judgmental on papers and a tough grader. Would not recommend. He don't offer extra credit.
Fun class. Workload is reasonable. Grading is fair. Prof available to help students but you have to take the step and ask. I learned a lot.
Funny, enjoyable class. He has high expectations of students but also works with students to help them achieve it, like explaining what you need to do on each assignment and test. So you gotta pay attention to those tips and instructions.
Dr. Moorehead is definitely passionate about Sociology, but he takes the intro course a bit too seriously. He gives quizzes that are solely based on the assigned readings, so make sure you keep up with them. He is a relatively easy grader, but there is a lot of work and reading in this class. Get ready to devote a lot of time and effort.
Fun, informative, what a college class is supposed to be like.
The readings are usually the only homework, aside from occasional essays. He quizzes on the readings so as long as you do your homework you'll pass with an A or B. His lectures are usually not boring and cares about students not spending too much on textbooks which is awesome.
Good teacher, he is open to discussing matters with students and generally has an open mind-not biased and respects student opinion. Gives good and interactive examples. THE ONLY THING is that you HAVE to stay on top of the readings and think critically when writing the papers. I took this class as a HS student in summer and got a 92. LOVES Japan
I had fun in this class. Prof Moorehead teaches you to see things in a new way and that sticks with you after class. There are readings for each class, but not too many and they're interesting. Do the readings and you'll be ready for the quizzes and exams.
If you don't want to read 3 chapters a week, don't take this class. He expects everyone in this class to be sociology majors. As a person he's very nice and respectful, but as a teacher not so great. His quizzes are over the readings and doesn't even go over it in class so you have to learn things on your own. Expect to memorize EVERY vocal word.
Very passionate about what he teaches. You have to read because there is a quiz every day on the reading so as long as you read, you'll pass. A couple papers and current news connections. The news connections are very easy, papers are a bit harder. If you show up to class it's easier to write the paper.
Could go on and on about how great of a professor he is! 2nd year of college and favorite professor! His lectures are interesting and he's hilarious and well outspoken. Few papers, but they are your opinion and more creative if anything. Need to read! 13 mini pop quizzes, only grades best 10 and gives extra credit! Finance major but enjoyed.
Prof. Moorehead is truly the greatest professor I have ever had at COD. He is honest, bold and everything you do in class has a purpose. he does have you do a bit of reading but class is never boring!! show up, enjoy class, participate, and soak up every bit of knowledge and insight he speaks. You will be a better human after his class.
Fun teacher. Although he expects you to read quite a lot, he will never bore you in class. Loves integrating Japan into everything. One of the better professors at COD.
Fun class, makes learning enjoyable. He gets you to see things differently, think about the social world in new ways. He encourages his students and really wants them to do well. But you have to do the work, including the reading. No secrets, no surprises, its all straightforward and clear.
I loved this class on race and ethnicity. I admit that I went into the class pretty ignorant of all thats happened in American history, so this class was a real eye opener. But I feel I really understand things better now, and I have Prof Moorehead to thank for that. His passion and energy helped guide the class thru some difficult material.
I came close to giving Prof Moorehead a 4/5 but this was only due to how tough of a grader he is ( on his essays especially ). However , I dont think this should be a negative because it just means he cares about his job and he expects students to do their best . Hes a very nice guy and if you just do the class readings , you will be fine .
Amazing professor who makes class entertaining and is really easy to talk to. Class isn't hard if you read all the readings and so the assignments. Essays are pretty straightforward, and finals are easy. Just be willing to read, and pay attention to in class.
I love Moorehead! I was expecting sociology to be boring from what I've heard, but I actually fell in love with it on the second day. He's a great teacher; you can tell he loves what he does. There are nightly readings followed by a 3 to 4 question quiz, but if you read, you'll pass. As long as you show up and do work, you'll be just fine.
Every class you will have a three question quiz on the readings. The readings vary in length some can be long. He is also a tough grader here is a direct quote from his notes on my paper, " your first paragraph is a mess". His classes aren't too bad as long as you show up and read you will be ok.
Don't get me wrong, professor Moorehead is an amazing professor! Very passionate and experienced. The only thing I would warn future students, is that you can't really procrastinate in this class. It is a heavy amount of reading, but manageable. Despite the heavy reading, I found this class to be very enjoyable (except the essays) and eye-opening.
He is hilarious teacher I have ever met at COD. Try to read all the class readings cuz there is a short quiz every class and do the assignments on time. Then, you will be fine. He really loves what he does and it is enjoyable to listening him.
I would not recommend this professor. He is extremely judgmental and make you feel stupid if you do not agree with his views. He swears way too much and is not very good at explaining his PowerPoints. He is a tough grader also. BUt does give out some extra credit which you should do. Also read read read if you do end up taking him.
Previous reviewer is hilarious. Prof Moorehead is awesome. He explains material really well, and he expects you to have done the reading before class. So if you're not getting things, maybe you didn't your part. He's open to students disagreeing (no idea what the other reviewer is talking about), but some students just want their nonsense praised.
Great Professor but to benefit you MUST do the reading. pop quizzes on the reading at the begging of each class. Assignments are not too bad and he isn't too tough of a grader. Strongly opinionated guy might want to avoid if you aren't used to having your beliefs challenged, or having your way of thinking always being the butt end of his jokes.
Do the readings. He did 3-4 question pop quizzes over the readings once, maybe twice a week. The midterm and final heavily pertained to the readings. He took 15 points off my essays each time with no clear explanation why. He repeated the same "jokes" which made his lectures a little painful to get through, along with his insufferable personality.
His classes are great. He works to make the class relevant and interesting to students. He's available to help and really wants you to do well. You just have to do your part. Whining about a prof's personality is so funny. You're not dating them! Plus, how great is your personality?
He is a great teacher, hes passionate about race and teaches in a way that opens eyes. The course work is sort of difficult but if you take advantage of all resources and extra credit and do the readings you will surely pass. Do all the readings because there is 14 (3 question) quizzes and 4 lowest are dropped based on it. There is also 4 essays.
i've enjoyed Prof Moorehead's classes the most out of any at COD. he treats his students like adults. he reaches out to help and really wants students to succeed. he tells jokes to make the class more fun. some students just sit there and expect stuff to be handed to them, complaining about jokes & personality but it's college not a tv talk show.
He's very passionate about his work of field, however as a teacher I can not recommend him, as he drops the F bombs too many times and his jokes run flat like all the time. Very opinionated on his political views. There is also a lot of writing, quizzes after each reading, note that there are a lot of readings and some can be longer than others
Love this class! Best class at COD hands down! After taking this class, I see the world and myself in a different, better way. I strongly recommend taking Prof Moorehead's classes. Don't let the haters stop you from having a great learning experience. Do your work! Open your mind!
Tough grader, swears ALOT and forces his jokes. Reading is mandatory because you have'll have a 3 question quiz (10 points each) every week but he won't tell you what day he's handing them out. You could pass the class, but you definitely have to put in the effort.
Prof moorehead is honestly one of the best teachers at COD, those complaining about the work are obviously looking for an easy A. The material is so easy to understand and he always gives you enough time for the papers. If you can you should take him.
Pretty solid professor, I had him for Sociology 1100 during the summer. Just keep in mind that there will be quizzes on readings from selective books, but does offer some extra credit opportunities.
I took his class in the summer and was lucky I got a B. He gave 5-8 readings, quizzed us on them every class and expected us to read all of them and do well. Sometimes the quizzes were hard. The exam had questions from all of the readings and definitions. Not being disrespectful but its better to take it online or from someone else.
I took his summer class and really enjoyed it. It was frustrating that some in class didn't understand that summer classes are intensive. Like, a whole semester crammed into 8 weeks. So more readings per class, right? And some were so short! The quizzes were easy if you did the readings. Class well planned. Enjoyable professor. I learned a lot.
Highly recommend this professor. He is very passionate about his work and explains things in his class very well. There are a lot of readings, but if you do them you'l be fine. Don't take this class if you are looking for an easy A.
Love this class. I get so frustrated by classmates who do no reading and then say class discussions are political. Um, studying race is political! Class is based on research and people who cant see that dont pay attention. This class has opened my eyes. Truly a great class. Ignore the haters. Prof Moorehead cares about his students success.
Moorehead is great. Makes class fun and relaxed. He is very good at explaining and detailing his lectures. Take notes and you will be fine. Read all the readings. Its a lot but its not a choice. Great class. Awesome professor. I just wish there were less readings :(
His course was very thought provoking and his teaching style was humorous while also connecting the learning material with personal connections. There are pop quizzes throughout the course but they are only 3 questions each and easy to pass if you did the readings. Also several opportunities for extra credit. Recommend 100%!
Passionate about his work but can be very judging when asking questions/ sharing your input on topics. Has 2-3 readings on average after every class session. Some can be longer and more annoying than others but I found some to be fairly interesting. On the readings, you'll have almost daily quizzes and they're worth 10 points each.
Has unrealistic expectations. 1-4 lengthy readings per lecture. Pop quizzes that pertain to only 1 of the many readings assigned, 10pts each. Will mock former students & passive-aggressively mocks current students' work during the lecture. Swears a LOT. Grading feedback is unclear and not very helpful. Lots of videos in class. Very chaotic energy.
If you don't like to read and if you're always late, you'll find this class difficult to pass. However, if you read the reading assignments, do the assignments properly and with effort, this class should be easy. I loved his lectures and found them to be very interesting!
A very energetic prof. Lots of readings & pop quizzes that arent hard if you do the readings but can influence your grade if you arent in class for them. Definitely swears but if you cant handle it, dont take the class. He WILL call you out if you dont do your work or if its not correct but you should do it correctly as hes very clear about grading
He grades pretty hard, and is very picky when it comes to specific things. He teaches the class well, and is able to keep things interesting. It's best if you do the readings every night, because there is a surprise quiz every week.
This class is what you would expect from a typical college level course. Readings, pop quizzes, essays, etc. If you read and participate, you should be fine if you actually try. However, know that he's passionate about what he does, and he is not afraid to share his own political views to his students, and judge others for their own opinions.
In-person, the class was simple. Pop quizzes once a week, a lot of reading, and lectures. After we moved to online, the class got unnecessarily hard. I struggled to keep up, and it was a lot of watching lectures, answering LONG worksheets, and lengthy essays. If classes are online in the fall, I wouldn't recommend. He's great in-person though.
Worst professor ever do not take him
Prof. Moorehead is a super cool guy. He's quite friendly and wants you to pass his class. Be sure to read the assigned readings before class, as there will typically be one or two pop quizzes during the week. When our class switched over to online due to the pandemic, he made sure to do his best to ensure we were all getting by smoothly.
I learned a lot from this class. There were many assignments and I could barely keep up. Not an easy grader. I learned a lot from this class. Take it if you are willing to do a lot of work. I really liked his teaching technique. He has a great personality, funny sometimes, helpful loves to tlk bout himself.
He gives good feedback. Not an easy grader. Tons of work. 2 longggggg 3 paged Q/A assignments, 2 400 word essays, and participation on wiki per week. Midterm, and final included. A LOT OF WORK. He was a nice professor, but I had to work nonstop to pull off an A. I think if your willing to do the work, you definitely learn a lot from this class.
Lots of reading. So many assignments. I think I ended up with 15 worksheets (took 8 hours to complete 1 - it was like writing an essay every single day.) there were 8 essays and midterm and final. He's great at teaching, he would be perfect if it wasn't for how hard it is to keep up and do the work in this class. Good luck!
Take this professor if you want to raise your stress and anxiety levels and have a panic attack or break down crying. Professor has a great personality. Just so much hard work for a 3 credit class. It was a very stressful experience. I wouldn't recommend this professor. The guy is great but geez too much work. CAn't have a life outside this class.
I had him for his summer class and I just didn't like the class that much. We had to do these worksheets every week and it was hard to get 100% on them because I don't always know how much to write. He is a nice person though and I think I would've enjoyed the class more had it been in person.
His lessons are extremely lengthy, as well as very confusing. He is unreasonable with his grading, amount of work each week, and is not very helpful when asking for help.
He only accepts his opinion in the answers!
Prof Moorehead challenges his students, no doubt. The workload is real, but everything has a purpose and all the pieces link together. He is warm, personable, and really reaches out to students to help them. If you really pay attention and honestly engage, you will learn a lot. Slackers should look elsewhere.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. So many worthless papers.
Be prepared for A LOTTT of work. Theres worksheets due every week that had 25-30 questions and then about 2-3 video quizzes after that then you had a A LOTT of papers to write as well. If you have any thoughts or opinions, keep it to yourself. He doesn't care much to hear about it and he'll just say something rude back.
Taking classes online during covid has been super stressful. Prof Moorehead went out of his way to help students. He was available, responded quickly, and took extra steps to help me do well. The weekly worksheets all link to the essays, so you can be ready to write them. Do the work, ask for help when you need it, and you will do well.
Great class. I like how the class is so current focusing on the covid pandemic. I learned a lot. Helpful feedback on assignments. As engaging as any online class can be. Professor Moorehead really tries to connect with students which is nice since we're all stuck at home.
this class takes A LOT of work and time. The professor is an easy grader, but the amount of work each week, isnt worth it. This class caused me so much anxiety and stress. I really dont recommend him. Also, you need ALL the textbooks.
Loved the class! I feel like I learned so much. Prof. Moorehead is really engaging and thinks about his students. If you need help, definitely reach out to him. He'll help as much as he can. And read the feedback he gives on assignments! I wasn't reading it at first, but there was so much there!
Took this class over the summer a couple of years ago. Wasn't a fan of taking quizzes on readings every single class. Professor could also be a smart-aleck at times. If you have to take this course, it's best to find someone else, but if you must take him, he's tolerable at best.
Professor Moorehead is probably one of the best professors I've gotten to have so far at COD, and this is my second semester and I'm a freshman. He is always available if you need to reach out to him, and he always made the class entertaining with jokes and things he said. I would definitely take him again in any subject!
I had him for 8 week course over the summer , while I was taking 3 other classes, & Ive never had as much work as he gave for a beginning level summer class. You have 2 large assignments due each week, with some weeks extra heavy with a midterm essay & an additional essay. Hes experienced, but takes it far too seriously and is frankly rude.
Prof. Moorehead clearly cares very much about his students and the class material. He is passionate and dedicated, entertaining, a fair grader and is always accessible. He will return a message usually within minutes of sending. HOURS of homework weekly+ brutal papers high stress, but if you do all the work and put in the effort you'll do well.
I mean hes ok. Pretty mid at best. Pop quizzes made me hate his class a ton but hes funny at times. Its a shame cause he has a likable personality but the class itself isnt that great. If you get reading dont take this class cause theres a lot of that
This guy was such a tough grader Like, its not an English class or an honors class. If you make one mistake in the beginning, youre basically screwed. Gave me a 7/10 for participation even though I didnt miss any of his classes, and had my camera on every time as requested. I even participated in class here and there.
He's such a cool dude. He's really honest with his students and he approaches difficult topics with a sense of humor. You do have to read a lot of articles, but it's not too bad. No tests or quizzes are given, just 3 big papers.
Prof Moorehead is a very good teacher. The class wasn't easy, but he made it interesting and I felt like I learned a lot. I was going through a lot and reached out to explain my situation and see if I could get extensions on some of the homework. He was very understanding and kind, and because of that I was able to pass the class.
There is a lot of homework given. He is a really tough grader, I try so hard on all the homework and could never manage to get a 10/10. Most work and effort I’ve given to the class than all of my other classes. There is also a lot of reading and you have to buy expensive books. Good person but I would never take this class ever again.
This class was one of my best experiences at COD. Prof Moorehead's assignments help students understand the key points from each reading, and he gives helpful, detailed feedback. You have to navigate Blackboard to find it, but it's there! Prof encourages students to participate and really engage. You have to do the work, but you learn a lot.
I loved this class! Workload was high but doable. It was an 8 week class, so it's more intense than a regular class that takes more time. The professor's videos were well done, informative & engaging--and that's hard to do in an online class. He asks students for their questions and takes time to respond to each one. He answers messages quickly too
Great class. Logically organized. Engaging professor. Ignore the haters. This really was a fun class and I learned a lot. The class is not about your opinions or prof's opinions. Most students don't talk anyway! Prof makes effort to engage with students, to get them to engage with sociology. Prof wants students to succeed and does his all to help
I loved this class. I had to work for my grade no doubt. But I got out of it what I put into it. So many students just sat there in class not even taking notes, and would stare at their desks when the professor asked questions. I appreciated the professor trying to connect with students and involve them in class.
I'd like to thank the professor for treating this like a college class. He sets high standards and helps you reach them. He's approachable and engaging. Go to office hours! I wish I did earlier. He really wants to challenge your thinking so you learn to "see the strange in the familiar" as he often says. You have to work in this class, no doubt.
Did not like this teacher. Would talk about his views on politics to the class making snarky jokes and of course if you called him out you were in the wrong. At times i would have to physically leave and walk out because he wouldn't stop talking about his political views. Paying to learn about covid and the vaccine.
I am so glad I got a chance to take a class with Prof Moorehead. He brings sociology to life and shows how the class lessons are linked to so much going on in the world. Some see that as "political" but politics are part of the social world! He tries hard to engage with students, even when some are quiet. He doesn't avoid hard topics either.
If you take his sociology class, be ready to do a lot of readings and a lot of work. I have a lot to say but the most important thing is, do not risk taking his class, save your time and money with another professor.
If you're looking for a class that requires you to read 5+ articles, write the equivalent of an essay every week, and never stand up from your chair and listen to someone drone on, oftentimes in unprofessional and crude ways, you've found your professor. The anxiety and workload is not worth it.
The worst professor I have ever had. Such a tough grader, if you don't answer exactly what he thinks you should he will not give you credit. You get like 5 different articles, or reading from the textbook every single week with 15 questions to answer. But each question needs at least a minimum of a paragraph to answer. BORING LECTURES.
Do not take this class or professor unless you want your life to be consumed by whatever the current news is. Reading multiple new york times articles a week and writing essays every week on top of the homework and lots of reading is crazy for a general education course.
Lectures are decent but grades so hard on everything even if you do exactly what is expected.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Unbelievable amount homework AND he is super tough grader.
great class. I learned a lot, and the professor really cares for his students. This semester has been hard for a number of reasons, and the professor was willing to work with me to help me get thru it. Best class I've had at COD.
I wish all my classes were as engaging and inspiring as this one. I was skeptical of sociology at first but I'm glad I didn't listen to the haters out there. Based on this class, I've decided to major in sociology when I transfer to UIC.
Robert did a great job explaining the class content thoroughly and would provide relevant examples for his lectures. However, he did not provide a very comfortable classroom environment. The class felt like he was trying to put on a comedy show, and he literally swore nonstop. He also was very rude when he would comment on homework.
this was a great class. Prof Moorehead really works to help students connect with the class material. it's a fun, engaging classroom environment. getting students to appreciate 100+ year old theories and more recent work is not easy, but Prof Moorehead makes it look easy. I learned a lot. Best class at COD hands down.
his class was so boring and not entertaining at all. had to do a worksheet every Friday. didn't understand anything in his class. he is caring though, but yet lecture was bad. I wouldn't take the class with him again.
Tons of unnecessary homework
bro was about to fail me :(
Learned a lot. Really interesting class. Planned out well. Clear assignments. Helpful feedback. Really wants his students to succeed. Will work with you to help you.
A good person from the little I've gotten to know him, a tough grader but it's understandable. What's frustrating is how long the weekly worksheets take, they tend to be based off of 4-6 readings, what was said in class (which makes it hard to finish before the end of the week) but only are 10 points, and take me about 3-4 hours to complete.
Professor Moorehead is very nice, I got to know him personally and he definitely is not an a**hole. In the beginning I thought he was because of the reviews. He honestly cares a lot, yes the worksheets are rough and take up your time but he wants you to learn and succeed.
He assigns one worksheet every week which takes about 4 hours to complete. Being late to his class is definitely his biggest pet peeve and he will say snarky comments in front of the whole class about you. He is a very tough grader and the comments he leaves on your work are extremely passive aggressive. Take his class with caution.
I took Prof Moorehead's sociology class over the summer, there was a worksheet due at the end of each week. There were many videos (About 8+ each week ranging from 8-13 mins each) to watch every week and a variety of readings needed for the worksheets as well. It is a tough class, but I genuinely feel like I actually learned something!
I always looked forward to having his classes. He presents everything in an interesting way and with a fun sense of humor. There's a lot of work, but I found it to be mostly manageable. He's very smart and down to earth and his passion for sociology is contagious.
Do not take this class if you want a "smooth" gen-ed experience. Dr. Moorehead's lectures were layered with swearing and felt very unprofessional. Among the many lengthy assignments given out the hardest part wasn't completing the the work on time but rather phrasing the answers in a way that matched the biased viewpoints of his class itself.
Professor Moorehead was generally a really good teacher. He explained things very well and gave warnings before assignments were due. He was very flexible and available to students. He tended to insert some of his personal beliefs into his lectures and graded pretty tough, but it was a well-taught class overall and I would recommend taking it.
Very tough grader. And doesn't explain the class material very well.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He's a very harsh grader (& he makes passive-aggressive remarks when grading), his lectures are like listening to a toddler curse, and he show extreme bias while teaching. Also, you'll have to do a weekly worksheet that's only worth 10 points but takes at least 4 hours to complete! Do yourself a favor and choose someone else. C
I really liked this class. Prof Moorehead treats students like adults not high school kids. He says students have their own brains and can think for themselves so he can share his views and we can make our own decisions. I learned a lot in the class, and Prof Moorehead really cares about his students succeeding. Take his classes!
Moorehead is my favorite professor on campus. His lectures were engaging, and I'll miss this class a lot. The worksheets take a lot of work + there's one every week. Be prepared for the intensive reading, and writing. However, Moorehead is a very nice & understanding. If you need an extension on a deadline, he's very willing to listen/accommodate.
Professor Moorehead assigns way too many readings for a week and the assignments he assigns for every unit every week is super time consuming. It's honestly not worth it. Also, he is always calling out students for being late and starts cursing up a storm embarrassing the student. I think they are better professors to take at COD for this course.
This professor is really good! His lectures were very enjoyable and funny. The class material was really interesting too. There is a lot of work, but if you put in the time and effort you will find the class enjoyable and you will get a good grade. I am very glad I took this class with this professor.
STAY AWAY! Very, very difficult grader & makes passive-aggressive comments when grading. Weekly worksheet every week that is worth10 points but takes hours to complete. He also curses to the point where it is unprofessional. If you would like an easy intro class, do not take him!
Stay away from this class if you just want a grade and don't want to actually earn it. If you're an adult and can handle studying adult topics, then definitely take all the classes you can from Prof Moorehead. He cares about his students' success, and will work with you when you're struggling. Ignore all the comments about his swearing. Lies!
This professor is funny But he is a very tough grader and makes very disrespectful remarks on reading and writing worksheets. So rude that I had to drop the class and change Definitely take another sociology class if you can TRY AND GET OUUUUUTT
He made my semester miserable. For a gen ed professor, he took the class way too seriously. He was very difficult with acknowledging my accommodations. Answers to homework needed to match his opinions. Very passive aggressive during lectures and with grading. Constantly accused students of not paying attention. Overall very much wouldn't recommend.
Love this class. Professor gets you to see things in different ways, wants you to learn. This is the most feedback I've gotten in my work which shows he wants you to learn and get better. The readings are interesting too. Definitely recommend this class.
this has been a hard semester for me, but Professor Moorehead reached out to me and helped me get thru it. I felt so bad for getting my work in late but I was balancing work and family issues and was really struggling. so I really appreciate him reaching out and helping me. we need more professors to do this.
He was funny it was decent at first then the work load got super heavy and we all have other classes and family issue , I hope to never see or speak to again or have their class again, tough grader makes disrespectful remarks on grading , If you want an easy class or less work load or reading don't take
Does not give the best feedback, is very mean ,when grading the reading and writing worksheets even when you have spent hours on them. Grades terrible thinks his class is the only class , you have a lot of work given out . Wouldn't recommend ever
If you don't like to hear someone bash Trump then I don't reccomend this professor. Very tough grader, he is also super strict on plagiarism. Dr. Moorehead is a very nice guy however he is very opinionated on politics and he goes on tangents sometimes.
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU'RE JUST IN IT FOR THE CREDITS. I spent more time on his class than the rest of my FOUR OTHERS combined. Lengthy worksheets every week, 5-6 readings assigned out of class per week. Also not very good at keeping his political opinions out of class. That being said, if you intend to major in sociology, this is a good start.
Moorehead's SOCIO1100 class is a challenging but rewarding experience. The lectures are engaging, and the readings are intensive. However, the weekly worksheets require significant time and effort. unstuck ai proved helpful for study prep alongside the textbook. Overall, a great class for those willing to put in the work.
For me, this class got harder and harder as time went on, and made me feel horrible mentally. Loads of homework that took me at least 4 hours to do (not including the ESSAYS) Guess how many people were in class. Me and 2 other people. Seemed to dislike me even though I was kind. Other hand, funny at times. This is MY OWN personal experience.
While I found the class content to be interesting, I have mixed feelings about Prof Moorehead. He is definitely very passionate about his subject, but he also swears A LOT, and his lectures are very much one-sided and political. He also assigns worksheets that take several hours every week. If you want a chill, professional prof, take someone else.
Prof Moorehead really makes you think. He goes from work from 150 years ago to 50 years ago to today, linking it all together. I now see things differently! The workload is similar to other classes and he treats you like an adult, not a child to be coddled. I feel respected by that. He works to engage you in class and not just sit there. Loved it!
Calls you out for being 1 min late but starts/ends class 5 mins late every other time. Weekly HW: about 5 readings + worksheet (4-6 hrs) short essay every few weeks. Don't disagree w/ his politics, but teaches sociology only through that lens which is counterintuitive. Only tests: midterm & final. FRQs easy, MCQs are specific about all articles.
Very tedious grading, analyzes every response on assignments, even when there are 12 different prompts with multiple questions per prompt. Didn't allow laptops to take notes because he "can't compete with google" and "studies have shown that writing allows for better recollection". Crams information the entire period and wonders why were low energy
There is a lot of work for this class. I had to take notes for every lecture because they will help me with answering the homework questions. I also needed to cite my work when using google or the readings he assigned. Otherwise, he would see it as plagiarism. I never did the extra credit, but I spend too much time reviewing for exams and papers.
Prof Moore is very passionate about sociology and often rants during his lectures. There's only a Mid term and final and multiple extra credit assignments. Weekly homework with multiple readings and about 15 questions. But as long as you pay attention to class lectures they are fairly easy but can get tedious every week. He is very against chatgbt!
Work is bad 4 videos and a page of questions weekly due in 2 days. His policy is strict zero credit for anything related AI/copy. He offers 0 help if u fall behind. His teaching is rigid shows no concern for students feelings. He barely responds to emails and won't admit his mistakes. For less stress and goal achievement, do NOT take this monster.
just terrible, won't help, barely responds, not a good person in general, just not a great professor. if you wanna have a better expierence at cod then avoid him, about 60%+ of my class has dropped it so yeah save your money and time and avoid him. will make you re-think school 100%.
Going to keep this short and sweet, if you want to have a fun and stress free semester, do not take this bum. Absolutely will not help and does not respond to emails and any type of outside help gives you a strike for AI and he threatens to tell higher authorties as well.
Dude is such a beta, like the other reviews state, does not help at all. Quite frankly, I am surprised he is praised because he just awful as a human being. Just goes to class, talks, assigns homework, and gives you zero if he notices something not from class. Oh and if you're late, yells at you in class, but oh he can be late and it is fine.
bro just talked crap about trump instead of teaching. such a meathead and cannot keep politics outside of his class. just avoid him man, so many other sociology professors at cod with ratings at or around 5 and will help you.
STAY AWAY! Very bad grader & makes passive-aggressive comments when grading. Weekly worksheet every week that is worth 10 points and takes hours to complete. Bro also curses to the point where it is unprofessional. Its bad and ruined my first year. If you would like an easy intro class, do not take him!
stay away if you want to be happy. enough said.
1 word. trash.
He just yapped and did not teach and could not help but tell us how bad Trump was. And he swears so much and man, I've been told by a lot of my friends who have him right now to warn the future of you guys to stay away. He will not help you at all. Good luck guys!
Just finished his class, yeah not very good. If you use any outside source, like other reviews say he will not be hesitant to give you the zero and offers no help. There are many other professors who offer so much more support. Good luck!
Will always go over the time limit and start late. He will respond to emails but very snarkily and rudely. You will have to spend around 3-6 hours on the homework. Take a different professor.
Literally so bad. All he talked about was how he doesn't like America and talks down about trump almost every class. I understand everyone has their opinions, but it gets to a point... Very strict on AI/outside sources. And leaves rude snarky comments on assignments instead of helping. Don't recommend!!
