Absolutely horrible! The worse math teacher I have ever had. Doesn't want to talk to students at all, as if pulling teeth. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY! OCC please get rid of this bad math teacher.
Worst proff.
Proofs almost everything and coorelates proofs with simple examples. His old fashion approach makes Calc II very challenging, but effective.
Bobby explains everything, and gives pretests to prepare you for the exam, there are no suprises. But any math course takes practice, if you dont do the homework, you wont do well.
Bad math professor!!!!!
He teaches really well, mostly through proofs. Even though this method makes it pretty challenging for calc 2, I still recommend you take him. Be careful of his exams....they're very tricky and he will put the hardest questions on them.
seems like this guy hates his job. his lectures are horrible; he just scribbles down examples from the book. you might as well stay home and read the book yourself. he recycles his old tests, so those who don't have old tests are at a disadvantage while those who do have old tests get good grades.
horrible....the worst professor I've ever had....I learned NOTHING from his class. I strongly recommend you not to take his class, but if you really have to, I suggest you not to show up (he won't take roll) and study by yourself. That's the only possible way to get a good grade. oh...horibble...
He is a HORRIBLE teacher! He doesn't know how to teach and really boring. Coming to class is a waste of time and exams are hard. Avoid this teacher if possible.
Muir is very smart but not smart enough to teach a class. he is very depressed. it seemed like someone forced him into the job. he told our class he hated teaching. he walks out sometimes for long periods during quizes and test. dont take his class it's a waste of time and money. he needs help.
seems pretty laid back and funny, but im not sure how much he really likes his job because he seems to look at teaching like its a huge bummer.

what the hell is his thinking about? teaching students? he should go back to coaching baseball. worse teacher ever.
second time taking calc, i'm getting an A in his class. (took khamneian first time). easy, if you do the homework. he really doesnt go in to depth, especially on exams, so its really good for people who dont really care much/like math, but have to take calc. tells you everything thats going to be on the tests, no surprises! (took class over summer)
I wouldn't take his class if i was a serious math student. It's true he doesn't take much joy in teaching. Also doesnt care if you come to class and leaves for long periods of time during tests!!!
You need to be good at math to take his class. Unlike me, I decided to withdraw from his class because his tests are hard as hell
Good teacher, young, pretty funny. Probably one of the easiest Calculus teacher's at OCC if you just show up and study a little.
it not dat hard. he teach math 180 during the summer i highly recommand dis guy if u had calculus b4 test are easy like homework....but somehow he kind a dumb kind figure out some problem...
Good math teachers are hard to come by. Muir really knows what he is doing. Has a great ability to make interesting what most teachers will put you to sleep with. Count yourself lucky if you get to take him. this guy is a good teacher.
By now, don't expect the professors to pull you through. At this level, you’re the one who does all the work and bobby only guides you, and he does a good job. And it might look like he doesn’t go into depth or something like that on his test; but you know what it’s rather hard to make the answers 0’s and 1’s than some ridiculous fraction.
As the people said below, he only guides you, you do most of the work. Doens't take roll so u can just ditch class and only come to class during test dates. Most of the times, his lectures are boring. Take this class if you know your material already n just want to get this class overwith, if you're new to precal and not good in trig, dont take him
Idiot...
Hard class....Boring lectures...Semi easy test. He tells you whats gonna be on the test.
muir? yeah, he sucks. dont take any of his classes. hes confusing, doesnt explain things clearly, and isnt helpful at all. he's a cool and nice guy and all, but the dude sucks at teaching
His style is for those who are good at math and who like to learn the material themselves. If your not this type then don't take the class, if you are you'll find it to your advantage because you can stay home since he doesn't take roll. I took his class for 170 and I am back for 185 this semester because he is very fair when it comes to grading.
knows how to do the math very well but isnt the best at teaching it.
Oh my god you must be a bone head to take this class. I seriously never failed a math class in the beginning than pass by the skin of my teeth. Only about 1/5 people passed. He doesn't teach right, is boring, makes it hard by teaching things from him not much of the book, and don't take this math class unless you live and breath math. =c
He is a pretty nice guy but the way he teaches drives me crazy. Shouldnt take his class if u arent gud at math
ok.. so i am horrible at math.. i mean i started in math 10 and am in 185 now but i squeezed by with like a 70% in all my math classes and i passed him... but its only cuz we had a take home exam and i had my genious boyfriend do it for me.. if it wasnt for that i would of failed ALL my exams and wouldnt of passed.. no doubt he is hard, but i did i
There is no doubt he knows his calculus. Nice guy, but his teaching skills didn't work for me. I ended up dropping.
no calculator in test and quizzes whatsoever. im taking his class right now. his lecture is horrible, u not gonna get a thing, so u shouldn't even bother to listen. u should go to his class to know when the test will b. study by urself and u'll get good grade(listen to him, u'll fail). test r like what in the book
boring, confusing lecture. u can tell he hates teaching, if someone asks him sum problem he just gonna do it real quick, doesn't explain his steps at all, and since his writing is like s***, it likely that u will b lost, normally u hav to self-study..a lot. doesn't work for me at all, i had a low B but then i'm so lost i just dropped
Took calc 180 over the summer. Good teacher, likes to talk about beer. It's a hard subject but he makes the best of it. Study and do the HW and you'll be okay. Usually gives one take home or group test to help boost grade. Doesn't allow calculator on test which is good cuz then if you get some wierd ass answer you know it aint right.
he doesn't care the attandence! n his lecture is boring but... the test is easy. you just remember the test day and come up that day
Nicest teacher!!! If you are a math major, you need to work hard by yourself. When there is any question, he can explain it if you go to him. If you are passive about studing math, you still can pass this course, but not next higher course, though he teaches everything that you needed to know.
1 in-class exam and 4 take-home exams. If you do poorly on the in-class exams you can try your luck with the optional final, which will replace 2 of your lowest test scores (if there are lower ones). This class isn't a free A though. You must either attend class or read the book and practice equations. You'll most likely do the latter anyways.
Teaches the proofs and nothing else. He's a cool guy, but definitely kind of intimidating. Personally, I did not like his teaching techniques. I missed a few classes, but studied from the book, but still did not do very well. On his tests, there are a lot of questions he goes over in class, so i suggest go to every lecture.
Very good teacher. Keeps the lectures interesting even in the more boring of the topics. Tests are very straight forward-doesn't like grading unnecessarily complicated questions so he doesn't ask them on tests. Definitely recommend taking his class if you want to do well. Make sure to PAY ATTENTION, he goes over everything needed to get an A.
WORST TEACHER EVER! He does NOT know how to teach but he loves to tell history of math which is IRRELEVANT. Just take the professor who gives out xtra credit. He's the laziest teacher i've ever had. His tests are tricky because it is not from the text book or his lectures. 50% of students in class fails, the other 50% barely pass.
Very boring lectures but no homework and easy and short tests. Attendence is a big part of your grade and he is rough is around the edges personality wise but a cool guy that is helpful if you ask.
He isn't so bad. He shows up, lectures, answers a few questions, and leaves. Nothing spectacular but is still better than most of his inept colleagues (See Arimendi-Pardi, Voicu, Milliken.) Tests are straight-forward and I found his calc/physics history commentary to be quite fascinating. Very passable class. I suck at math and squeezed out an A.
To start off, he's a lazy teacher. Attendance is not required, so is homework. He doesn't like to grade complicated problems on the test, only simple ones. Make sure you do the homeworks even though it's not required. Sometimes he puts the homework problems on the test. He gives out group test and take-home test.
He gives out a lot of information/examples in class. Most of the time I can solve problems just using the note. Test questions are straightforward, only testing what you should know. True that he's lazy, but I like it. And if you do the questions he assigned, you'd learn a lot. Don't recommend taking him if your not comfortable with math though.
i have no clue whats going on. i used to be the smartest in my math classes till i took his class. 3/4 of the class have no clue what is going on the others studied it at home. he does give a group test but other than that nobody knows how to do anything. i do not recomend him
attendence isnt mandatory. last final makes up two bad test grades. about 5 tests. he tells you almost exactly what each problem will be. you could probably go throughout the semester without attending much class and still get an A.DO THE HW.
attendence isnt mandatory. last final makes up two bad test grades. about 5 tests. he tells you almost exactly what each problem will be. you could probably go throughout the semester without attending much class and still get an A.DO THE HW.
Before Bobby, I sucked at math. I absolutely *love* the way he teaches. The people who don't do well in his class are all slackers and dont pay attention to his lectures closely. Just sit in the front and you'll be fine. I'm getting over 100% in his class right now. Tests are easy, and there are lots of extra credit opportunities on his tests
You can get an A in this class even if you aren't very good at math. The final makes up for your 2 worst exams. He tells you everything you need to know to do well on the tests.
all i have to say is horrible teacher..just a waste of time trust me
He was a good teacher. Doesn't care about attendance. Gives two group tests that the whole class takes together and a final that replaces two lowest test scores. Moves through the material fairly quickly, so if you are not a quick learner the this probably isn't for you. But a cool guy. My study group probably taught me more then he did though.
Muir is one of the best ath teachers that i have had. like most people have said he is a bit lazy wiht no mandatory attendance or homework. the tests are not to difficult but he goes over everythign on the test in his lecture...those who say he doesn't just don't pay attention well. muir shows how the math works and why not the it is because it i
He is not a patient teacher so be ware. If there are other teachers teaching this course, take them instead!!
The class can be easy because he tells you whats on the test and also the group and take home test but if you are going to be going on in math consider taking someone else. He cares more about proofs and making himself look smart than teaching you the proper way to do things. One hour long proof then two examples and on to the next subject.
Don't waste your time the answers for the tests are almost given during class if you need to take a higher math class DO NOT TAKE him you are better off learning the material by yourself, the poor guy doesn't know how to communicate with his class, its useless and a waste of time!
My recipe for success was to take good notes, don't write down proofs, do lots of homework and ask questions. Got an A. Just put the hours in until you understand the stuff no ones going to hold you hand and make you good at calc. He explained things decent, but my own footwork is what helped.
I would only recommend this teacher to someone who has taken calculus before since he speaks upper division math language you know upside down letters and symbols but whats really annoying is that he acts like we should know it already. Hello this is calculus right? I call him a philosopher of math since I don't understand a word he says...
Take him if you have had calc. in highschool or if you are repeating. He doesn't really know how to teach. Just keeps talking about stuff that won't make sense if you haven't had calc. Test are easy since he tells you EXACTLY whats on them. Teach yourself this stuff and you will do decent. Liked his group test and take home tests. No homework.
lazy and impatient; I get the vibe that he hates his job; I only stay in the class for two reasons: there's always a test review and at least 1 group exam; be aware: you will have to teach yourselves the course materials!
He's OK. Doesn't collect HW. Grades based on test. But still do the HW some test questions are from the book.
Muirs the man! Straight forward tests and he's cool. Don't listen to all the haters.
Muir is a horrible teacher. All he does is proofs which are useless. Extremely lazy and confussing. BUT he does give 1 take home exam, and he tells you very fast whats gonna be on the exam. No reviews for tests. No quiz, no hw
Took this guy for Calc2, and it remains my biggest regret. I've never gotten a C in a math course before. THis guy spends 3 hours doing proofs rather than showing examples and clarifying how to use rules. From waht i've heard, he's ok up to calc 1, but calc 2 and above he's bad.
If you like to see profs, then Robert is your guy. He is not very helpful. I got a good grade only because I had a tutor and I like profs. Do not take him if you do not love math. Do not go to him for help he just does the problem without explaining why.
I took his Cal2 because I heard that there were going to be a group test and a take home test, but he didn't give any group test this time which seems to be a little unfair to me. I can never understand what he is teaching in class so I dropped his Cal 1 before. Having old exams helps so you know what kind of questions you will have on your exams.
Muir is a MATH GOD! Everyone that hates on his calc class are idiots who clearly can't see his genius. He's harsh but funny. Most ppl that dont understand his lectures are too busy trying to copy everything off the board; sit back, relax, and really try to mentally go through the motions of what he teaches on the board. I had him for 1 and 2.
Got a bare A in his class. Honestly I didn't follow his lectures well, but many things he brought out during lectures were oddly helpful. No HW assignments but for your own sake PRACTICE THEM. that's the only way you can understand lessons. Tests are fair and straight from problems in the book.work hard and he'll save you with a take-home test.
i took him for math180 and he made calculus easy to understand. at some points, you have to teach yourself but he provides good examples. no homework, 1 take home exam, 1 in class exam which you can work w/other students. i enjoyed this class!
I took this teach a few years back and realy enjoyed his lectures and test grading. I've moved on to University and am so disappointed. You will learn a lot from Muir. TIP for math majors: Takes notes in your book! The less you copy, the better. Great teacher.
one of the worst professor I've ever had. he was completely "useless" when it came to clarifying and explaining the problems.the only way to pass this class is to study the material yourself. however, he was pretty easy when it came to grading. every exam came with a take-home and an in-class part.
Tests are straightforward & could be harder... He even tells you what kind of problems will be on the exams. Muir is crystal clear in lecture--I like when he gives background/context to the material. Lenient about attendence and simple grading scheme; no homework. These points could be good or bad.
He was a coooolest guy i've ever met in OCC!! His class is easy if you practice many problems. He tells you what kind of questions come up on the exam!
I had him for 180, 185, and 285. The subject is hard, but it is not impossible to pass. Consists of 4 or 5 exams. Tells you what problems is on the exam. At least one is a take home for 185 and 285. For 180 I had a group and a take home. Final is optional since it does not lower your grade and can only replace your two lowest exam grades.
Muir's class is very simple: 4 exams worth 50 points each, and an optional final to replace your two lowest test scores. That's it. The class is boring as hell but he's lenient on attendance and you can text/surf the web/do other hw in class without a problem. He tells you what will be on the tests, which are similar to the old ones...
He is good teacher, but not helpful. But you will learn how to be independetn from him, which is good if you are going for math of engineering majors, because you will need to be independent. I feel sad that he doesn't like his job too much. I wonder whats his story, I think he could have made millions with his brain !
If you fail his class, you are a MORON. He gives exam reviews and tells you what'll be on the exams. This is the only reason that most people do not drop his class. His lectures are jokes. He checks out some books from the library. He copies down these proofs in his notes. And then he rewrites them on the board while staring at them in class.
This guy makes sarcastic comments toward those that struggle in his class. Since he does not attack me, I'm fine with that. My major problem is: he's simply copyin his OWN NOTES on the board, and yet he still screws up his own proofs. Dude, if you're not smart enough to a proof properly, it's OK, don't bother trying. Jeez. Just showing off LOL
He's boring, but he is a smart and cool guy. VERY lenient and laid-back. Lectures are useless, just listen to what he says will be on the test and study JUST that stuff. His tests are a lot easier than some of the stuff he does in class, and rarely any proofs. A math major might enjoy talking to him at office hours, though.
easy A. 6 exams, and final, which can be replace 2 lowest exams. if you do well on 6 exams, you don't even have to take it. tests are straight forward from class, and he will tell you whats going to be on the tests.
I took Bobby for 180,185,285 and his class made me enjoy calc/lin/DE's a lot. People who hate on how me messes up reading his own notes dont get it. There 100's of proofs he has combined in all his classes, n cant remember everything. Other than that, very good teacher, not rigorous but will make you know the basics and apply them to harder stuf
WORST CALC 2 PROFESSOR EVER MAKES YOU STUDY FOR QS THAT AREN'T EVEN ON THE TEST. HE INTEGRATES HIS LIFE IN MATH AND IT MAKES NO SENSE. EVEN HIS LECTURES ARE BOGUS HE JUST DOES PROBLEMS AND IF YOU DONT GET IT HIS FAMOUS LINE IS "FIGURE IT OUT" IDK WHAT'S THE DEAL BUT HE ASSUMES EVERYONE IS CHEATING. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS BECAUSE YOU WON'T UNDERSTAND
Hard class but definantly one of the better Calc professors at OCC. Muir knows his stuff but first half of the class is fast so you better know how to integrate. Not to bad of a class but last test is HARDDD! Overall good teacher and would take him again.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! WORST PROF AT OCC!!! Tests are hard and lectures are boring and useless!! Constantly messing up trying to do hard problems! How am i supposed to learn from someone who cant even do it!! DONT TAKE HIM! MISTAKE!!
He has a totally different way of teaching calculus. Not helpful at all, but if you practice the problems he tells you, you will get an A or B, with out a problem.
Bobby's way of teaching CALC 2 is heavy on knowing the proof behind the theory; it's different from most other Math teachers who just do a bunch of examples on the board (he does do some examples). Doesn't give or list out HW but practice ALL the textbook non-word problems. No word problems on his tests & gives you a 2nd chance w/ optional final.
yes its true, lecture is useless for the most part, but he does drops hints for tests every so often, all you have to do is listen for the hints, do EVERY problem he suggests and then some, find the old test floating around out there, if you cant pass his calc class you are bad at math or lazy, sorry
If your a first timer in Calculus then dont take him. His test are so basic yet hard at times. He spends hours on explaining proofs, which you wont be tested on and it puts you to sleep. He only spends like 10 minutes of actually teaching you how to do the math problems. Attendance not manadatory 5 Tests, there is a take home. You can find better.
very smart guy, interesting character. I loved his way of teaching, he doesn't care about attendance or HW, but it is all for your own benefit, if you pay attention to class and do the HW you will get an easy A and you will love his class
Smart guy. Personally, his teaching methods were not compatible with my way of learning, so had to learn material on my own. Other students felt the same way. Tests are not bad at all. No trick problems, simple but requires you to think. Do the HW!! 5 Tests, one was group test and one was take home. Optional final. I ended up getting an A.
He has a very relaxed style which I found comforting. No homework and attendance isn't mandatory. However it is helpful to go to every class because future test questions are sometimes examples. Best of all he is a man of his word. If you're happy with your grade before the final, you don't have to take the final.
an excelent teacher. take him for sure! very easy going and extremely smart guy! you'll love him
For me he is one of the best math teachers I've ever met! an extremely knowledgeable person. if you like math you will love him, but if you don't I don't know if you would!
If you are not a calculus math genius do not take this class! His lectures are pointless all he talks about is the history of math, gets stuck on a lot of problems he does on the board, and doesn't explain steps to anything . All he does is random problems on the board you don't need to know for tests. Do not take him!!
This is the guy you want to take . He knows his stuff. The lecture he gives is complete and helps you understand the material. In the beginning his lecture may be hard to understand but a complete lecture note from this guy is gold and a good reference when you're in higher level math. Not to mention the take home exam. I study, do hw, and got A.
This guy is a genius! he is a math lover and that's the right guy to take if you want to understand math well.take him he is the one!
A great teacher, looking forward seeing him next semester! be in class, take notes, ask him any thing you would think of, you'll do good.take him he is the best!
Very confusing lectures, he explains things that are way too advanced and loses the class. Attendance is not mandatory, I didn't learn anything in lecture but his test are very easy, got an A in his class but taught myself everything. There is a group test, a take-home test, and an optional final at the end to help your grade.
Much harder than Calc 2, teaches the same as calc 1, same amt of tests, final can only help you. Get ahead early cause the test before the final killed everyone. He is fair, most (as in all I think) test questions come from homework and class, so do the exercises until you understand.
Walked myself through all the theorems/examples and few questions in the textbook and got an A. The material is overwhelming but they are not that hard, be prepared to spend time to study and cramming probably won't work. He gives 1 take home exam and curves the grade so you can get over 100% . Options of drop lowest exam or not take cum. final.
The best Math teacher in OC, very brilliant and kind... take him for sure he is the one
Great professor, little hard to understand, but his class is easy compared to other calc teachers. Lectures are mandatory as he hints to questions on the test. 5 tests, 1 take home, 1 group test, optional final if you like your grade. I studied and worked really hard throughout the whole semester. YOU MUST KNOW THE MATERIAL, study it. I got an A :)
A great professor easy to understand and very helpful take him he is the best
an awesome experience! loved his class, I will take it over and over again, he is defiantly the best math teacher ever, he knows his stuff more than any one else, TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN
An awesome experience, a cool character knows every thing about math! he is definitely the best math teacher ever..
Great professor! Take notes on everything he says, they're extremely useful. There's a group test (use the whiteboard), and a take home test. Optional final replaces 2 lowest test scores. Very prepared for calc 2 after his class. Really cool laid back guy who can answer almost any math/physics question you can dream up. Very glad I took him.
Bobby is a cool teacher who keeps his class exciting and interesting, an amazing guy with lots and lots of knowledge that I think no other teacher has! take him!
I took it in the summer. This class was relaxing. His tests are fairly easy. Go over some problems in the book. It helps if you have soln man. He doesnt tell you which problems to do so just do them all. But before the tests he says what's on the tests. I ditched class a lot, so a little useless to go. If physics major take him! He's knowledgeable.
Muir is one of the best professor in OCC. His tests are super easy. straight forward, no tricky. He gives you one take home and one group test. Try to take him both 180 and 185. you won't regret
Muir is a great professor. Took him for math 180, 185, and 285. He really helps you understand the subject. I definitely recommend him if you have to take these math classes.
Not taking Calc ever and only Pre-cal I came into this class scared. Honestly, he's a genius you can tell by the way he talks. The tests are challenging, but he breaks his calculus down to algebra. Know your algebra and you should be fine. His proofs prove why you can use formulas that he gives you and then you apply the formulas to everything.
Such an awsome teacher. The only reason he has some bad rating is because attendance isn't mandatory and students don't show up therefor they do bad on the exams. Take notes they're extremely helpful, and enjoy his sense of humor
best math professor ever.
Never judge a book by its cover. Pretty straightforward class, all exams, homework is up to you. I would strongly recommend if you're a Physics/Engineering major. Teaches proofs, which can be helpful, but they're not on any tests so don't get wrapped up in them. He expects you to learn on your own, so utilize the SSC as much as possible.
Never judge a book by its cover. The class is pretty straight forward, 5 exams and homework is up to you. Old tests are floating around, the Vietnamese mafia may or may not hook you up. Bobby is aware of this and has created new tests. Just do all the problems in the book and you'll be fine. Physics and engineering majors should take him.
Careful with this guy, he is super laid back which makes students also laid back. You HAVE to study on your own, his lectures are literally useless. Majority of the class never shows up until test day. His test can be easy if you have practiced every problem in the book several times. The guy hates his job so he puts other people down. He funny tho
1 group, 1 take-home and the final is optional which replaces up to 2 lowest test scores. Most of the time he just goes over proofs regarding the subject matter. I had to reteach myself most of the material and relied on outside resources and textbook. I suggest taking him only if you have a somewhat of an understanding of calc already.
Highly recommend him for Calc 1. Impossible to fail because two of the exams are free A's (group and take home test). Calc 2 however is different. There is only a take home and the subject itself is difficult at times. His lectures do not help so dont expect to come to class for clarity or reassurance. I passed because of youtube.
Muir saw that I needed remedial coaching and developed a plan for me using his own time despite having a family of his own which he cares very much about spending time with. I did not get a good grade in his class however his influence set me on a better life course. I suggest being proactive in communicating as he is a bit passive in this regard
Caution: No Calculators on Exams. You need a firm foundation in Algebra II and Trig. to pass. He rushes through examples so taking notes is hard unless you already know Calc. Most of lecture is going over proofs that do not resemble tested material. Only way to learn is through other sources. While he's not the worst, he's not the best math prof.
an awesome guy, students who don't like him it's because of not showing up to class and therefore failing the exams. his exams are straight from his notes. he would help any one to the highest extend. take him he is the best
He is brilliant but not the best teacher. He does mostly proofs. Many times thru the semester he'll explain something for 30 mins and say, "This is for the 2 math majors in the class." Why would you only teach 2 people if there are 50 other people that paid to learn calc from you? Anyways very laid back and tests are easy if you taught yourself.
Great professor! very funny in class, attendance isn't mandatory. However, it is recommended. 2 take home, 1 group test, 2 in class. tests are base on lectures. If you do your assignments from the book you will be fine. easy A
Mid-season, he decided that there wasn't going to be any easy passes (no group test, no extra point so show your work), spent most of the class doing proofs and left early all the time. No required textbook, just says to use ANYTHING. He started making the tests more and more difficult so when he teaches you the basics just know that it's a trick.
An awesome teacher; very sweet and easy going. Gives students lots of comfort, therefore he is not the right teacher for those who don't want to put in some work and study, you don't have to attend class, but if you want an A you'd better be there. Highly recommended! Take him he is the best math teacher I have has in OCC.
5 tests... 50 points each. 250 points total in the class... and that's it. Final is optional and replaces your two lowest test grades but do well on your tests because YOU WILL NOT DO WELL ON THE FINAL. Hate how this class is only based on tests.
Bobby is not only a great teacher he is a great person; means he is always there for every student in need for any question. He grades very fairly, and his test questions are all from the notes taken in class. Never judged any students or made fun of any one. Such a sweet and giving person, funny and entertaining. He is absulutely the best teacher
Great man and a great teacher.
Does not tell you which book you need. He never offers clarifications on anything. Attendance is done at random whether you are there or not so good luck. He will show up late to his own office hours or not even show up at all, as well as classes. He gives you a study sheet the class before the test, and it has nothing to do with the actual test.
He's very tough guy. Although his grading is easy and giveaway, but his teaching style is boring and confusing. I was struggling in his class and learned the materials from outside sources, YOUTUBE. I heard that most of students who did well in his class were using the exams from friends in the previous semester as study guide. TOO BAD!!!
Honestly one of the best calculus teacher. Don't be fooled by his long lecture and hard proofs on the board. His main purpose is to make the student think SMART so he uses these hard problems to drill little concepts. Since his notes are so hard this make the test easy and he gives 1 group and 1 take home, so no reason not to pass class. Recommend
Bobby's class is straight-forward. No homework, attendance not mandatory. your grade consists of 3 regular chapter tests, 1 group test, 1 take home test. 250 points total. Also, theres an optional final which cant hurt you, only help. As for the teacher, great guy--funny. Makes class interesting. Beware: 4 easy tests then BAM Test 5 will ruin you.
Not a cool teacher. Phone always rings in class, seems to be out-of-it most of the time. Makes you feel a little stupid if you ask questions. Hard grader on tests, says he gives partial credit, but not always. Lots of cheaters in the class, he pretty much encourages it. Misses class a lot. And leaves class during tests looks on his phone. BORING!
Not a good teacher. He's a smart guy, but it's obvious by his lectures that he's bored by the material. His test questions are NOTHING like the questions in the book or his examples. He missed 5 days of class during summer school wo notification and didn't even bump the next test. Was always late and seemed wasted half the time. cheaters passed.
It is a summer class, what do you guys even expect? Of course it would be hard. Of course you won't be learning much. I specifically was glad that this teacher gives his students many chances to pass the class. If you do well on the final, it replaces your lowest scores. Even if there are some who cheated, everyone failed the 4th exam anyway.
If you are the kind of math student that needs a lot of hand holding, do not take this class. You will not do well. If you are like me and don't always need to go to class, and learn best from a book and just need the professor to guide you, you will do well. Forgiving grading structure. Respects his students. Smart but humble.
Bobby was a very laid back teacher and doesn't assign any homework. Having no homework makes the class very easy to slack off but if you manage to do problems you will do great in the class. He isn't strict on grading or anything for that matter so as long as you put a little effort you will get a good grade.
Grade is based off of 4 tests and an optional final, doesn't offer any extra credit so you have to do good on the tests. He's laid back with attendance and class lectures, but you pretty much have to learn the material yourself.
Took his Linear Algebra / Differential Equations class. Four tests, one optional final that replaces your two lowest test scores. No homework. No quizzes. The fact you have to push yourself to get a decent grade made me admire his teaching style. If you have a good work ethic I highly recommend his class.
He told us that there would be 4 exams and an optional final. Out of the 4 exams one would be a group exam and another one would be a take home. He never gave us a group exam. He changed his third exam and made it harder. You have to study on your own. He doesn't really care if you show up or not. He's just there to teach and give out exams.
Knows a lot; however teaches entirely through proofs, not real examples. Loses most of the class by style of teaching. Uses a lot of English to teach math. Get ready to learn on your own. Tough grader, will have "notation problems" where even if you do them right will get 1/3 points due to notation. Not accessible through email. No Blackboard site.
Personally, I hated his teaching style. All he does is write proofs and explain what they are. No homework and no guidelines, so I was confused on how to study for this class. I did not learn anything from his class. His exams are easy if you have previous exams. Has optional finals to replace two exams, but they are hard so avoid them if you can.
I took both Maths 280 and 285 with him. He is a cool guy and I like his teaching style.
Only reason to take this guy is if you have access to previous exams (which are similar to actual ones). He's not very good at lecturing undergraduate material. His are basically the textbook read verbatim, and easy to get disengaged and bored. He's very intelligent but bad at teaching the intuition behind calculus.
He's really good at math, but really bad at teaching... spends most of lecture telling boring stories from when he was in college. No sylabus, shows up late, I wouldn't reccomend taking him.
Super funny/smart dude. Resonates a lot with engineering/physics students. He makes the tests hard (To make up the fact people cheat). There's a group & take home test. Final replaces 2 lowest scores. No syllabus. No mandatory textbook, you can use any. Doesn't assign homework it's all on you to decide what to practice. Best for self learners.
Bobby is hilarious! He keeps the study of math light. Despite his humor, his teaching style lacks finesse. He basically reads the proofs out of a book without giving clear examples (with numbers). Great guy, laid back professor, but you have to learn on your own
Smart and funny professor but not really good at teaching. If you are a self-study person, professor Muir should be your choice. The final exam is optional; it will replace the lowest test.
Just a terrible professor. Yeah he can be funny, but being funny doesn't teach me how to do math. Teaches through proofs that you can easily find in the book. Do you self a favor and DO NOT TAKE.
He's a very chill and laidback teacher, but don't take this lightly. If you're like me and need explanations of the problems during class then his teaching style is not for you. It took me a while to get it but everything that he does in class is mostly proof based and doesn't actually focus on problems that are applicable. Just go on khan academy.
If you have taken calculus before this class is an easy A. There is no homework, and you're graded solely on 6 tests (which are really easy if you study beforehand). However, the lecture can get super boring and I always found myself leaving class early.
Not the best lecturer. He usually just derives proofs and doesn't actually do that many practical examples. Assigns no homework. Your grade is based on 5 tests, so if you fail one then your grade is basically screwed. Don't take if you need a teacher that will hold your hand. Get ready to teach yourself. I found the class easy, though.
Great teacher. 4 in-class test, 1 take home, and the final makes up for your two lowest scores. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you benefit from his lectures. Hilarious guy that makes the class fun with his jokes and stories. If I would've known of him when I started at OCC, I would've taken him for all my math classes. OCC is lucky to have him.
he is so hilarious and chilled. no textbook , attendence, or hw required to get an a. if you are a self-study person, this is your dreamed professor. 4 in-class tests, one take home, and a final which is used to replace your lowest test, it cant hurt you. plus, he really enjoys drinking with friends on the weekend.
great and hilarious guy . most of the time, he tells math history and goes off track all the time. however, i enjoy listening his jokes and stories.
His lectures are limited, but his classes are easy. Four are in the class, Exam, and one takes home to Exam. FInal is optional. Recommend him.
Funniest/smartest prof ever. Cares about students understanding material. Very approachable.
Don't take this class over the summer. It can ruin you in advanced math courses. SHORT + PROFESSOR WON'T HELP MUCH. Do yourself a favor and wait to take it in the Fall or Spring semester.
Bobby is a funny professor. His teaching style is not for everyone. If you are looking for a professor to hold your hand he is not the one for you. If you are taking upper level math, you should be able to do the footwork on your own. I truly enjoyed taking his class during the summer. Do your self a favor and get ahead of the game by reading.
His lectures are very all over the place. A lot of the time he goes off track and talks about the history of math which doesnt really help you at all. Honestly its ALL self learning & going to class isnt that helpful except to know when the tests are. He is very smart but not approachable at all.
His class is very laid back. Prepare to teach yourself. I wish I had taken a different professor. His teaching and testing style did not help me at all. I am now taking calculus with a professor who actually teaches math and I'm so overwhelmed and stressed. This class WILL NOT prepare you for calculus.
He doesn't actually grade the exams, he just gives you a random score. This is my first B all year, even though A level work was done. Unacceptable. Also, his lectures are boo boo. No interactivity, no effort, just going through the motions. With that said, Bobby is a math genius and a funny man. It's unfortunate he doesn't care.
Hands down the worst professor I have had at this college. He knows what he is talking about and that's obvious, but it seems like he expects the class to always be on the same page as him. Cares more about trying to get you ready for calculus, but skips very crucial steps in the process. Also didn't have a canvas before COVID. Lectures also suck
Really fun class
He doesnt give a big workload there were only about 5 12 question tests, although be ready to teach yourself. Its hard to follow what hes doing because he doesnt explain his steps. He just does the problem and expects you to understand what hes doing. I went to his lecture for the first two months before realizing it was a waste of time.
I really enjoyed taking his class and am looking forward to having him again next semester.
One of the best Professor In OCC get ready to laugh and learn, never thought I say this but I'll miss his class. TAKE HIM !
I never write reviews, but because everything is online now so I think it is important to. Professor Muir is really funny, he doesn't require the textbook however to do the homework and do additional problems you can just find a free pdf online that he recommends. The homework is not part of your grade only the exams are. def recommend.
Interesting lectures that keeps you listening. Can use any textbook to study with and will help work through any problem as long as you show some effort. Very relaxed class.
His class was fun and easy. I enjoyed it and I know a lot of people may not like math but this class was very straightforward. Pay attention and you will pass! Make a friend and youll be fine!
This course isn't heavy so it was easy to pass. He is very helpful and his tests are straightforward. There's no reason to not get an A. Overall great professor!
Easy A class if you pay attention and hold yourself accountable. Bobby is hilarious and his lectures are great + straightforward. If you're more of a self-taught person, he is specifically for you
Bobby is really laid-back and lenient. He often gets off topic but it makes the class more fun and interesting. You will be doing a lot of work on your end since there isnt homework. His class is an easy A.
He is the best professor you can find in OCCs math department. I took him for both Calc 1&2 (MATH 180,185). 3 Exams one of them is take home. Final is optional, he will let you take it to bring your score up, and replace it with your lowest score. He really cares about his students and explain the concepts very well. 10000/100.
Kinda friendly and hillarious guy because we can go hangout with him. His lecture is really boring that I have to learn by myself. He gives you HW from textbook but never grade it. Grades are all based on 5 tests, 3 in class 1 take home. The last one is optional because it replace for the lowest previous test.
He makes it easier to understand and goes over the book without you noticing. I love how hilarious he is.
This guy knows his stuff, he really do! After all he has a masters in math. PROS: very chill, easy grader, part 1&2 test: 1 collab 2 yourself, final (used as extra credit), hwnot required. CONS: doesnt explain, U MUST TEACH URSELF, goes decently fast, rambles a lot. This class was an easy A but WILL NOT PREPARE YOU FOR CALC!
Decided to take Bobby and read the reviews beforehand. I knew it was a self teach class but glad this was online otherwise I wouldn't have passed. He never explained what he was doing but then again nobody wanted to participate. If you want a passing grade and understand the concept I'd suggest you take another prof
Bobby is super easy. He doesn't change any of his tests each semester so you can find them all online. He also doesn't care if you use notes/books/internet on the test. Everyone's done in 30 min because everyone has the answers. No one learns anything though. If you want an easy A, take Bobby, if you want to learn calc 2, don't.
100% of grade is test scores. Heavy on theoretical lectures, far too skimpy on actual problem-solving. Incompetent (or perhaps just supremely lazy) on Canvas, so although attendance is not graded, you need to show up to catch the occasional useful bit of information. Free pdf text.
I don't understand the hate comments at all I mean he gave yall a passing grade he knows what hes doing, yes it may be a self teach class but its a guarantees A he doesn't want us to worry about dumb major requirements this man is an angel is sent from heaven and I'm taking him for all my math requirements. he is really lenient and perfect
I love bobby
Great Professor I highly recommend. He is great with working students. He answers emails fast if you have questions on lecture or homework. He love to tell stories and is super funny. Caring Professor for a passion of math! I dont just take him for a easy A. He is a good professor that makes students understand!!
Muir is the easiest professor if you want an A, but you might not learn much :/
if you are taking math above 180, dont take him, its very hard to learn. With that being said, its a pretty easy A class if you use atleast half your brain.
Not my style - homework and attendance are optional. Grade rests entirely on tests. Uses free PDF textbook. I did not find his lectures useful, so spent a lot of time learning from YouTube tutors.
No Homework, No mandatory Attendance, No learning from lecture. Yes using phong during Exam, Yes Easy A. Everyone copy answer from discord during exam. Nobody can solve anything of their textbook because they just copy answer from internet. Nobody drop this class. Everyone can get A. Robert is very generous to Cheating.
The nicest most caring professor I have ever taken in my life. Really cares about students and wants them to succeed and will help you if you ask. He is also very funny too likes to make jokes in class. I wish I can take all my math classes with this guy, he somehow makes a boring class like calculus fun and entertaining
Bobby has a passion for the history of mathematics but little patience for explaining the intuition behind the material being taught. Both classes are to a large degree self-taught. If you are a liberal arts major looking for an easy A, this class is for you. STEM majors who need a firm grasp of the material for future coursework look elsewhere.
In his lectures he went over math history, pythagorean triples, ancient peoples, how a tangent line came to be, and would use complex examples to teach simple material. He also goes on tangents during lecture sometimes. I learned a lot, but there wasn't enough Calc 1 practice or enough simpler examples to learn what we needed to learn in the class.
I love Bobby. Bobby very cool
we thank you, Bobby or all of your service over all these years your forever in our gratitude. No more cheating everyone your all on your own now we have to use our math requirements elsewhere for now on. THANK YOU AGAIN BOBBY
No more easy As but we're all grateful for what was. Get ready to study lots on your own. I wish the school would quit making bobbys life so difficult and let him drink his diet coke in peace.
You have to actually understand the class material now, theres only like 5 exams and you aren't graded on homework so just do good on those and youll be fine.
Kinda confusing professor and the grade depends on 5 exams. You'll be so anxious before every exam since each question is like 2% of the final grade. I don't think he rounds grades :(
To anyone reading the reviews saying that he lets everybody cheat, he said he is changing his tests to be on paper. Unless you are a math genius stay as far away as possible because this is class would be your worst nightmare. He has a great personality, but his teaching is impossible to learn from. Honestly, ur better off taking this class at GWC.
If you didn't take college algebra and trig before, this class will be quite difficult. Bobby's way of lecturing the material is very hard to understand. He gives a practice exam before each test but they're 10 times easier than the actual test. Grades on 5 tests and the final is optional and replaces lowest test score.
Very tough to get ahold of if you have pressing issues. Does not teach the material well enough to not allow "Extra Help" during the tests like he used to. On the tests, he tries to create "AI proof" questions that sometimes just don't make any sense. Grade is based on 5 tests, future students that take him will struggle greatly.
Didn't seem to care about teaching calc as much as he cared about math history, which would be cool except we weren't in a math history class. Didn't seem to care much about teaching at all. I went into Calc II severely lacking skills I needed. Guy seems too abstract and up in the clouds to actually pass understanding to students.
Heed my warning do not take this class. Smart dude but doesn't know how to teach to save his life.
Bobby's a very smart guy who is passionate about math, but isn't so good at teaching. No homework, attendance is optional, and don't have to pay for textbook. Don't have jury duty or any other binding obligation/emergency on exam day because he will NOT let you make it up, and you will be forced to take the optional final
Avoid at all costs. Turns out he doesn't care anymore. He's will to ruin your GPA just to stick it to the Dean of the school.
Bobby is a very chill guy. As a person, he is cool. However, he cannot teach. His lectures are very useless and it is hard to learn anything from them. Although I ended with a decent grade, it took a lot of self-teaching which I am not very good at. If you like self-teaching yourself then take Bobby, but don't expect to learn much from his lectures
Bobby is a fun guy but he just can't teach. There was nothing holding the class together; optional homework, loose lectures, no syllabus, there was not structure to the class AT ALL. If you're like a business major, take the class it's easy to pass. If you're in STEM, avoid. You will not understand the material without teaching yourself on YouTube.
Cracks a lot of jokes. He gives out practice tests and goes through them like one class before the exam. Personally, I never attended any of his classes unless it's review day. There are 5 tests total, and he curves them. If you go to his office hours, he'll calculate your final grade. Pretty easy to pass. Don't expect to learn anything though.
Professor is terrible at teaching. Homework is optional and from the textbook, however, he doesn't bother to put any homework problems on the exams as he prefers to make his own problems or maybe use one or two problems that were covered in his lectures. Grade is solely based on 4 exams and 1 final. He does go over his past exams, so study those.
The professor can't teach at all. No structure and this is basically a self-study class. He doesn't seem like he cares about teaching at all. I would not recommend if you need this course as a prerequisite for other classes
Five exams, plus a final that replaces your lowest test score. No other assignments + free textbook. In my opinion one of the better math professors at OCC
The best teacher! Muir is so funny with his lazy way. I love this class and style.
