this class is horrible, he doesn't teach, just puts notes on power point, and tests you on stuff that isn't covered anywhere, don't take him!!!
he really doesnt teach anything. his tests cover tons of notes and are too hard to study for

I hate this class. The whole thing is on powerpoint. The tests are online and they are timed. Very hard class. Do not take him. I was advised not to take a crim professor w/ the last name starting with a M. TAKE THAT ADVICE!!

Good for discussion but otherwise, the class is pointless! Everything you learn in his class, you already learned somewhere else! Funny guy though!

you never have to go to class. if you study your online notes then you can easily get an a in class. just print out the notes off the internet & you can use them on the tests! i got an a. there are 4 tests and 2 discussions. not that much work.
This class was cake. 5 Threaded discussions on webct and one essay that was 10 pages long and we had 1 month to do it. Class discussions were easy and all we did was bull**** and joke around. Take this guy for 401.
Pretty easy class, its mainly online though. Tests arn't that bad, there all multipal choice tests on webct. Nice guy, but teachings a little strange to get use to.
All we are tested on are 100's of court cases. Very hard to get an A. Unless you are one of the few who have a cheating process down. Rec. not to take a crim prof with the letter M

35 mins to take a 50 question test? I know that I like to read the question and think about it. He wants to make sure we study, but isn't there some other way? I'll give him credit I do follow his lectures & he does have a good joke occasionally.
His tests were the most random things ever. We didn't have a book, but I borrowed my friends from another class, so that I could study. The class average before he curved was a 59%. It is very hard to do well in his class.

Never have to go to class, even if you do, it's nearly impossible to get anything higher than a C on his confusing tests. But, he gives lots of bonus points; helps bring your grade up.
Definitely take him for 401, he's so easy and really helpful too. All you have to do is go to class and raise your hand like twice all semester and you'll get an A. Watch out on the discussions online though, his grad asst. grades them and he's terrible

If you feel like taking a class where you have to study 4 hours the night before the test and thats it, take him. Dont bother going to class, just study your notes online.
i have to hand it to dr.mutchnik. its reallly hard to get up at 8 oclock to go to a class that you dont need to go to. everything is online, he just goes over the powerpoint. but i like to go because he makes the class interesting. lots of bonus too
Class and prof is a joke. You DO NOT need to go to this class. Just start studying the notes off the internet weel before the test and you can do fine.

I stopped going to class a month or less into the semester and still managed to get a B. As long as you look over the notes online and are quick with timed tests, you should be fine.
Attendence is mandatory this semester and there are no tests just two 10 page papers on a handful of topics. Every class is taught by one of the students because he makes everyone in the class pick a topic from the book and start a class discussion on it.
Definitely one of my more interesting professors. Online notes are great. Just study them before class you'll be fine.
He is still the worst crim prof. at IUP. I attended his class and studied for hours, however never got an A. Test are hard, 100's of cases. If you want to pass find a friend in the same class and attempt to do group test.
Do not take this class if you are planing on getting a good grade. Really hard tests and from his web ct class.

Going to class definitely helps, but he also posts notes online, and if you are ok with multiple-choice tests, you'll be fine.

This class is an easy "A" for any student willing to do little work. Just go to class and look as if you know what you are talking about. Threaded Discussions easy and one 10 pg. pape. Not bad for a 400 level class. Take Him!!!

I think doctor mutchnick is one of the best professors here @ IUP. His class is always fun. He is a great professor not only b/c he doesn't take attendance but also b/c you only have 3 tests all semster and a 10 page paper due.. How hard does this sound&
this class was all on webct. his lectures consisted of power point slides. the way the questions were worded on the online tests, they could have had more than 1 answer. only take this class if you like to read your notes off the computer.
mutchnick is great! notes and tests are on webct, so you can have your notes to reference. class is fun, tells a lot of good stories, very knowledgable man. i know you are reading this, i told you we would give you better ratings!!

not hard but not easy
Dr. M was very helpful and professional throughout the whole semester. He is a tough grader, however. No attendence policy and the notes are on webct, but class is always interesting so I suggest going.

Great professor! Tests were semi-difficult, but if you read the book, then you did fine. Final term paper was easy. He gives you two good topics to pick from to write about.
He goes very fast and covers a lot of material. If you are looking for an easy class dont go with him.
His tests are extremely hard and he doesn't explain things very well. He is completely lost without his powerpoint slides and he moves really fast. If you were once interested in Crim, you wont be after you take his class. Ignorant S.O.B. Dont take Him!!
He tells TONS of stories about his life which are so fake...like beheading cats. He hardly covers anything that is on the test - you basically teach yourself this class and he spends the whole time talking to his daughter on his phone during class.
Notes online, goes over key points in class, test online. Lots of bonus points, interesting class, easy A!! I'd recommend Mutchnick to anyone!! Great stories from the 70s that go with his lecture. Great NY accent too. Loved the class!!
Take this class online with him, it's IMPOSSIBLE to not get an A.
brings good points to class, but he doesn't use a book. all materials are online and very in depth. if you like studying notes and want a challenging course go for this one
I had his class online, and i only got a C but he seemed friendly through email. If you like to study and spend multiple hours staring at a computer screen, be my guest. I am sure he is a nice guy though- one day I will meet him and say "Im the girl from your class..."
Mutchnick is very nice and tells a lot of stories. His quizzes are very hard, but he gives a lot of bonus.
Dr. Mutchnick is the best prof at IUP. All you who don't like him are dumb little freshmen who don't like to study. Ive had him 3 times and he is the coolest prof. Two 10 page papers, no tests, about 4-5 threaded discussions. Always cancels class. TAKE HIM!!!!
if you didnt plan on changing ur major at all, after you take this class you will. He teaches but he designed his class to be like a internet course. If i wanted a internet course I would of signed up for one. Do not take this class if you plan on passing it.his tests are unreasonable hard.

Anything taught in class was rarely on the exam. Even after being given possible questions for an exam, it was still highly difficult to find the answers.
His test are so hard.
This prof should not be getting paid what he does. Not only is it impossible to retain any information from his notes online, his tests are ridiculously hard as well. He is not helpful by any means and he will single you out in class if given the chance. Avoid at all costs!!!
His tests are HARD HARD HARD HARD. He is funny, upbeat and a great guy, but good lord, I studied my butt off and barely got by.
He is not a great professor at all, i would never recommend him to another student. He has a tendency to cope an attitude with students and gloats the fact that so many fail his tests. He also has horrible testing procedures, many claim to be unfair. All that can be said: DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!

Appears to be a nice guy but exams are NOTHING related to the lectures. Everything is on webct but a majority of test questions cannot be found in the chapter/book. He gives 10-20 point curves for most exams but goodluck w/ learning anything and getting the rest of the points!
Bring your McDonalds food to class b/c he does everyday. I wouldn't recommend him. Tests are extremly hard. Good luck at finding the answers to the questions. Ya he curves alot but what does that tell you about the test grades. No attendance policy. It don't matter, if you do go you won't do well.

3 online essay tests and only one 10 page paper...He grades very fairly on the essays...He keeps the class in a relaxed atmosphere...Knows what he is talkin about...A good class if you show up to take the notes.

i wouldnt recommend him for 101, but the rest aren't too bad. even if you miss some classes and notes, you can easily pull off B's. he knows what he's doing, but he'd rather tell irrelevant stories just to hear his own voice..
Mutchnick is a good guy, but his class is not the easiest thing in the world. You have a test just about every other week, and a 10 page paper due at the end of the semester. But you do not need to go to class to get the information you need for the tests, which is a plus. He basically conducts the course like an online class.

Interesting man, not a spectacular professor. PowerPoints are too long, save them to your computer since there is never enough time in class. Exams are difficult, but attend class as he gave bonus points to whomever showed on certain days; it doesn't hurt to have good attendence when you need a few points to bring your letter grade up one.
Dr. Mutchnick is not helpful to the students at all. I took him this summer for crim 400 and we had to write a term paper and send him a copy via e-mail and a hard copy, neither of which he sent back to us graded. If you e-mail him he can't even bother to put your name on the response. He took forever to grade things. I got a B in his class.

Ugh! Tests are extremely hard and the notes in class dont help much. You must read the textbook and even that doesn't help a great deal. Nice guy and funny but I would never take another class taught by him.
6 online quizes, 7 page paper, 1 threaded discussion there was supposed to be 2 but he just gave us the points. Very funny guy, you can joke around with him. Quizzes aren't the easiest thing. Doesn't give many notes, attendance is not mandatory, i only went because i liked hearing his stories. Pretty much a teach yourself kind of class
Hes a super funny person but hes a sucky professor! He tells tons of stories and makes jokes all the time but his teaching style sucks! Quizzes are extremely hard for no reason, he doesnt go over the material in class at all its horrible! If you are used to powerpoints and the material in the text to be explained DO NOT TAKE him! GOOD GUY BAD PROF!
Nice and funny guy but not a great professor. Entire grade is based off of 11 online exams which are very hard. Exams are timed and you only get one try so you have to basically memorize the whole chapter. Going to class is useless since everything is from the book and attendance is not mandatory. Sometimes I swear I'm taking an online course.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! EVERYTHING is online. What he teaches at actual class time has nothing to do with what's on the tests. He thinks he knows everything but he doesn't. His grading for online assignments and Simulation are tough. He's just horrible. Don't ever e-mail him. He will just make fun of the e-mail that a student sent to him during class.
Easy teacher who created the online book. Everything you need is in the book and there were virtual simulations online for cjs. You don't have to go to class, he only tells you of his personal antidotes which are amusing at times. I would take 101 with him again
He used an online simulation thing that goes with the book (that he wrote). so you need that. as long as you do all of the online work its easy. His lectures are really interesting and fun. Make sure you do the practice quizes in online simulator. They are similar and somtimes identical to the ones in the actual quizes.
I do not recommend taking this professor. Very insensitive to problems and loves to talk about himself too much. There is no need to go to class if you take him, which was nice, but it is not worth it. The tests are extremely difficult, and they were all online over fridays and saturdays, and many of my weekends were ruined because of it.
must go to class, one big group project determines your entire grade. he's a smart guy but very annoying, wouldn't recommend
He is a very smart and knowledgeable man. The tests are what's in the book and slightly on his ppts. If you don't wanna work for your grade, then don't take him. I enjoyed him very much. His stories are so amusing and he cracked jokes with us.
Crim 403 is an easy class,except a project at the end. He makes you rate everyone in your group, even if you all do the same amount. I tried to tell him we all did the same amount, but he wouldn't listen.
His grading was very fair. While I didn't find the class extremely hard, it was time consuming. I would definitely take more classes offered by this professor.
He knows what hes talking about, but my grade suffered because the only grades that were entered were 4 Exams that were worth 100 pts. each, 25 questions long, and you only have 15 minutes to take the Exam. This killed me because I did enjoy his class but you have to self teach a lot to attempt to get a good grade
There are 4 online exams, each 100 points. 15 minutes for 25 questions. Each exam covers 3 chapters, which is a ton of info. I wasn't expecting the exams to be so hard. I've never read the online book, but I have taken the online pre tests which come with the book. These are helpful. He is not helpful at all.. you are on your own. Do not take him!!

Each test is 25 questions(online) & you have 15 minutes to finish-each covers 3 chapters. Oh! & there are 180 possible questions you could get on each. Good luck!!
Really don't like this guy. He talks about himself way too much. Not helpful what-so-ever. Would not recommend taking him.
He's a funny guy but not the best professor. You could learn a lot from him but the online tests (100% of your grade) are often flawed and they are inherently difficult.
