He was fine
He takes the time to tell you exactly what you do and don't need to know, makes it alot easier going into tests. He will also take the time both in and out of class to answer any questions that students may have for him.
Dr. Noble seems to genuinely care for his students. Its a great feeling esp when your coming from High School and the university workload is just sinking in. Thank you Dr. Noble!
Excellent professor. Gives excellent notes. Genuinely interested in teaching mathematics. Doesn't try and trick students; he will tell you upfront what you need to know for tests, midterm, exams, ect. Incredibility approachable, intelligent, and sincere.
Good teacher , defiantly not hard to look at either :)
Great prof, very helpfull genuine and clear.
Dr. Noble is an incredibly good teacher that genuinely cares about his students and how they do. I'm actually enrolled in Alan Surovell's class, but after receiving a less than satisfactory mark on the midterm (he's a horrible professor) I started attending Dr. Noble's lectures; best decision I've ever made. Thank you for being such a great teacher
Absolutely wonderful teacher
While I did find MATH1000 to be a very difficult course, it is required for my major. That being said, Dr. Noble went to extreme lengths to do his absolute best to help you. His notes were organized, and if you had any questions, he'd try and help you out (during class, office hours, or by email). Only reason I passed was because of his teaching.
Wicked Prof! The Midterm and Exam were all taken from the practise questions he gave. Will offer help to anyone and he generally cares about his students. Would totally take this course again or anything else taught by Dr. Noble :)
Best math teacher I ever had
Rob Noble was an amazing Calculus prof. He would almost bend over backwards to help you understand a concept, and he would answer the same question over and over without losing patience. His exams were incredibly fair. If you take MATH1000 and MATH1010, you'll want to make sure you take it from him.
Professor Noble was the first math teacher I have ever had who was able to help me understand the logic behind the math we were doing instead of just memorizing formulas. He prepares you very well for the exams, and will tell you almost everything that will be on the tests.
Noble is an amazing calc prof. He makes sure you are unbelievably well prepared for the midtermfinal and gives out lots of extra help for people struggling. Honestly, I'm not sure you can teach calc much better. BTW, non-mandatory attendance but you better go or you will struggle.
Dr. Noble is brilliant! Definitely one of the hardest courses I've ever taken but he's super approachable and great at explaining things. His office hours are often busy because students from all of his classes go to them. He seems to genuinely enjoy passing on knowledge and his love of math is super apparent!
Simply amazing. Really cares about students. He understands in first year calculus that not everyone there enjoys is good at math and he makes it very easy to get good marks as long as you put the effort in. Really commendable understanding that is hard to find in professors as smart as him. Take his intro course if you are worried about math.
He's a good teacher, but he moves very quick. If you miss a class, he has all notes available online, but they are hard to follow if you don't understand the context given in class. His hours leave a little to be desired (Positioned right when I have other classes) and there is an assignment for each and every single class. (3 per week).I hate Math
Noble was by far the best prof or teacher that I have ever had! He makes sure you're extremely prepared for midterms and finals by giving you loads of questions and telling you exactly what you need to do to get marks. If you are willing to put in the effort, you are basically guaranteed a good mark even if math isn't your strong point!
Noble is the best math profteacher I have ever had. He is clear in his expectations and understands that students have busy schedules, especially in first year. Midterms and final will be easy if proper studying is done, however Noble makes this task easier by saying exactly what he expects. 75 % of your course mark is exams, so prepare well.
Class always ended early, I learned nothing from him, Was very short when answering emails. The exam is a lot like the review though.
He is one of the best Mathematics Professors. Really.
What can I say about this class honestly, it was challenging but this professor made it feel like a highschool class. Gave loads of help to the students, even gave the option of posting all of the course notes online so you could print them off and take them to class. Gives you practice tests that are basically the tests making it very easy to pass
I don't think i would have passed MATH 1010 without Noble being my teacher. He tries his best to keep classes interesting and lays out the material clearly. He puts his notes online, but i strongly suggest you go to classes because the work is explained a lot better. He is also super helpful during his office hours!! Great teacher overall!
Honestly he makes the class feel like a high school class. He will extend online assignments pretty much at a whim and also basically gives you the exam and it's your job to learn from it and apply it on the actual exam. Great professor would take another class with him again. Median grades for math 1000 was B and for Math 1010 B-
Dr. Noble was the best prof I ever had! I took his calculus class coming out of high school, and my only goal was to pass ( I didn't get good grades in high school). He is super clear about what you need to know for the final exam and gives great explanations. Would recommend to anyone!
Will do anything to get you through the class with a great mark. Practically gives you midterm and exam marks. If you go to the lectures and pay attention to what he posts online, you will get a good mark, guaranteed.
Dr. Noble really wants you to pass calculus. Great lecturer and nice guy. That list of testable problems is such a blessing. Really enjoyed my time in his class.
I found Noble seriously one of the best math professors I've had in a looong time. He has this way of explaining if you pay attention you'll easily ace the course. Gives you a lot to prepare for but you have any time to go and see him and he'll go through it step by step until you get it. Very approachable and is VERY helpful.
Dr. Noble's lectures can feel a little slow at times, but make sure you attend them, he was the one designing the exams and he makes sure to go over every type of problem that is going to be on the exam in class. He understands the material is difficult so most of his practice problems end up on the exam, so make sure you do them!
Rob noble is the best math professor or teacher of any kind I've ever had!!!! If you fail this course you are an idiot and did not work for it because he gives you the answers. Study his testable problems and go to his office hours and you wil get an A. Make sure to go to the final review before the exam.
Amazing prof, he was defintely the best calc. professor for math 1000. You're guaranteed a great mark if you use the testable problems that he gives you at the beginning of the term. Take math 1000 with rob, you wont regret it. GO to the review sessions he offers and youll get an amazing grade.
You will definitely do well in this man's course but he may not be the person to take calculus from if you need it going forward. He gave out the answers to the exam (with maybe 3 extra questions) and I struggled the following year when I took the second half from someone else. You will get a good grade but you may not learn much.
Dr. Noble's awesome. He makes everything very clear in his expectations, and his course notes are a blessing (no textbook required).
An amazing professor who really cares for his students. Very approachable and understanding.
7.25/7.25
Amazing.
Great prof, tells you exactly whats on midterm/final
Great prof, very helpful.
Had him for 1000/1010. Great prof, really smart, engaging & explains what he's looking for at the beginning of the semester. Put your work in, do your testable problems because they will be the exact same as the midterm/test, show up to lecture & take advantage of office hours & you can get an A+. Was worried about 1st year calc, but glad I had him
He is willing to help anyone, he really wants you to do well and he tries to make the exam as accessible as possible. He might ask the more challenging questions online (webworks); but that will NEVER be on the midterm or final. Dr. Noble really wants everyone to do exceptionally well. He praised our class when we did well; loved this prof!
I was lost the very first class and every other class following. He is not clear when he teaches and only gives one example per chapter. But the homework is easier than what he makes it out to be in class. Go to every class because he gives you extra hints on what is on the exams. Get extra help as soon as you get lost, ie office hours/ tutor
Dr. Noble is Amazing! I failed this class the first time and took it again with Dr. Noble because his reviews were good and I passed. He tells you which questions are going to be on the midterm and final which is so helpful and he explains things clearly and always presents an opportunity for questions. I would take again!
Really fascinating delivery of the content on the one hand on the other hand it's Calc so you know it's been taught forever! Somehow this year even with the testable problems being posted the class average was C+. I would say this was an easy A but obviously that is not the case for the average student. Good format, it's really been dialled in.
Go to class and review session and do the teastable problems and you will be fine
Dr. Noble made math as enjoyable as possible and was a great lecturer. He was very clear on what will be on the exams, and gave hints to what will be on the tests in class, so everyone should essentially do well. I literally barely put any effort into this course and I still managed to do well overall. I would definitely retake this course.
Noble is a good professor for people who don't need calculus going forward, but he is not very good at keeping people interested and his lectures are quite boring. His exams are fair and all the questions come directly from the testable problems. As a result, people get good marks in the course, but I'm concerned about how I'll do in 2nd year calc.
One of the best professors that are teaching maths.
My one concern with this class is that the grades are derived primarily from only a few tests which makes them worth a lot of your grade. That being said Dr. Noble makes these test extremely easy by posting all the possible testable questions. However off you did not take calc in high school then he can be very poor at explaining some topics.
he is very great teacher I love him actually I love the way he teaches and make them easier his office hours go and get help
Noble is genuinely a really good person. He knows the class he teaches is hard for a lot of people and wants to make it as easy as possible for people to do well while still meeting the course requirements. Had I not taken calculus in highschool, he would have me confused all the time as his lectures get a bit confusing. Overall, hes really great!
Some of the most entertaining lectures I've had. He really knows what he's talking about, and tries to make sure to fix anything you learned wrong in high school calculus. Don't worry about tight schedules, since class usually ends at least five to ten minutes early.
Dr. Nobel is one of my favorite profs. His grading scheme is very clear and he gives you all testable problems word for word and number for number that will be on the exam. For all my praise, however, as someone who had taken Calc. in High school, I see how his teaching style would be confusing to students new to calc.
One of the best profs Ive ever had. He outlines specific practice questions, which are the only questions he will later test you on for midterms and exams. If you have the chance to have him as a prof, take it.
He gave many testable problems in class. If students really listen to the class, they will get A in this course. He would tell u whether this section is important, so listen carefully. Also, he is really patient. He will put the questions in review section in final either. So, just listen carefully.
dr Noble is such a great prof I am taking 2 courses with him this semester such a great person to explain everything to us take whatever he is in
as anyone knows in math 1010 dr Noble is the best instructor form math 1010 and math 1000 he is so flexible, always answer your question, has an office hours, nice teaching and such a good instructor
His online class of MATH 1000 was controversial at first, but he managed to listen to all the complaints in the end. Lectures were provided in PowerPoint slides, but he decided to include videos made by another grad student and lectures to go over quizzes. The final exam was 6 hours long, and we had 2 attempts. Excellent prof.
Dr. Noble is a great professor, I love that he has great grading scheme.
we love him. I recommend going to class since he gives tips on what to expect on exams!
He is a good prof.
Best math prof ever
As someone returning to school after a while and now needing to take calculus while missing a lot of background, this is hard!! Rob is the best prof I've ever had in math though, and it's crazy how something so hard is also the math I've most understood in a while. He actually teaches you HOW and WHY it's happening, it's fantastic.
Was very helpful and was very truthful about what was on the exam. Just make sure you go to his class because he normally doesn't post his notes.
reviews say it all, hes great.
The lectures were very helpful, as he tells us what to expect on the final exam/midterms. His notes were also helpful when completing the assignments. The best professor I had in my first year by far
Dr. Noble made calculus easy. He is very clear what will be on the exams, and gives a list of testable problems. I also took him for MATH 1010 and I got an A+ in both. He responds to emails relatively quickly too.
This prof is amazing and super good at teaching the material in an easy to understand way for all students. He makes the exams very straightforward and the tutorial quizzes are fair. The online assignments are the hardest part of the course because they are annoying but you get unlimited tries. Make sure to go to class because he hardly posts notes
He is very fast-paced, so maybe read over content beforehand if you are a slow learner!
Dr. Noble is the best math professor I've ever had. He really cares for the subject and his students. I highly recommend taking any of his courses, he makes the material easy to understand. The tutorials are a little boring, however.
I found the lectures quite confusing at times but with practice and watching external videos the content is fairly straight forward. Dr. Noble was very approachable and was clear about what was going to be on the exams. As long as you know how to do the testable problems you will be good.
Assignments and exams are easy.
I've taken calc1 3 times and this was the first time I actually understand and did well. He wants you to succeed and will take the time to help you understand. He also will make a marking scheme that works best to help your grade improve. didn't do great on the midterm? no problem he'll drop it if your final will make your grade better. Great prof.
Dr. Noble was a great teacher. Calculus is a tough subject but he made it easier than most teachers. He gives you exactly what you need for exams and does not give you busy work. However, there is not much stuff to bring up your grade in the class. It is only exams and tutorial quizzes.
One of my favourite teachers, super nice and approachable. I don't necessarily enjoy that the final is worth 50% of your grade (75% if you completely bomb the midterm) but I find that the makes it very known what to expect on the midterm so that makes it easier and less anxiety ridden. Overall he's very genuine and seems to love what he does.
Best Calculus proffessor I have encountered. Very dedicated and clear both in lecture, as well as with what he expects on the midterms and finals. Large online homework component but gives lots of time and you can keep doing it until you get it right before you get marked on it. Would seek this prof out for any math course I take in the future
I have never been great at math throughout high school, so I was not excited when I learned I had to take calculus for my degree. But Dr. Noble was hands down the best prof I've had this semester. He made difficult subjects easier to understand, and you can tell he really wants his students to succeed.
best first year math prof you could get
Probably the best prof I've had so far! The course was pretty tough but he's very understanding that life happens and is always willing to help if you're falling behind.
Class was fun, not too much homework, and class topics were taught clearly.
Great prof, fair grader and course was set up nicely. Just read his notes when needed and study the study guide and you'll be good. only thing is he teaches a couple units kinda weird and solves problems using a harder method then needed. Overall good prof and good course though.
Great professor, prepares you well for exams, great lectures.
Great professor. Talks and goes over the material really fast though but studying the material before the lecutre helped tremendously.
Excellent teacher. He tells you exactly what you need to know to prepare for exams. There are no surprises.
Although the exam is 50% he will let you know exactly the types of problems that will be on it, very helpful.
I struggled with calculus in high school and had to take it again in first year university. Professor Noble explains things in a way that's easy to understand, and ensures that you know what you will be tested on. The study guides are essential, since 75% of your grade is based off the midterm and exam. I would recommend him to literally anybody.
Dr. Noble gives you every chance to succeed. The course content is somewhat challenging, but the homework questions have unlimited tries and are a good representation on what you will find on his exams. Dr. Nobles course notes are also great and easy to comprehend, plus he used a myriad of methods to help you remember crucial aspects of the course.
Bro writes at supersonic speed. If you are a slow writer, you will be caught lacking massively. You have to stay locked in the whole time. Not necessarily a bad thing but yeah, he's alright.
Dr. Noble is extremely helpful and prepares students for the exams very well. He will be very explicit on what will be on the exam, often the questions will be exact copies of his course notes. He is open for office hours after every lecture and will provide fully worked out solutions if needed. Overall he was a great professor!
Dr. Noble is helpful and wants students to succeed. He explicitly states what will be on the exams which are often exact copies of problems in his course notes. His lectures are extremely helpful in explaining and he makes points of the small important distinctions. Overall he is very good professor!
Dr. Noble is incredibly knowledgable. I took linear algebra as an elective just so I could take another class with him as the prof. His lectures are super important, and genuinely wants his classes to succeed. The content is hard, but he makes it very manageable. I hated math before but he changed my perspective; thank you Dr. Noble!
I had Dr Noble for MATH 1000 and 1010, he is a good prof that provides clear explanations for all the material paired with lots of examples. He also posts exam reviews and clearly emphasizes what is important to know for exams. One thing I will say is be sure to go over the material before class as he can go pretty fast.
He is the best for Math 1030. This course contains 75% from exams so it is easier if you take it with him. Questions of the exams are similar to the assignments so practicing the assignments is what you need for the exams. Going to the class is mandatory as he does not post any notes on Brightspace. Overall, excellent and caring professor.
Had Dr. Noble for both Math 1000 and 1010, Found that in 1010 he would go over more difficult concepts at the same speed that he would for easier concepts in Math 1000. This lead to some confusion. However I still would not take this course with anyone else.
Explained concepts well and was overall a great professor for Math 1030. My only critique is that I wish he had better explained how concepts work in 3 dimensions instead of glossing over them because he cant draw in 3D. Felt like I couldn't gain a deeper understanding because of this, however was able to do fine regardless.
Follows textbook page-to-page, if you do that then even if you don't attend class you will be fine. Content is not too difficult to follow by yourself as well, but it helps to attend classes and tutorials. Would be better if the professor had a Q and A session with the students in every class instead of just monotonously teaching and lecturing.
You could tell Dr. Noble had taught Calc II many times before. Everything was well-organized, the midterm & exam were based on the homework, and everything was very fair.
Linear Algebra had less supplementary material than Calculus II, especially when it came to the midterm & exam, but was still taught in a very accessible way. Dr. Noble is obviously an expert at teaching this course.
overall pretty good but try and learn his way of doing stuff if you already did calculus in highschool
He is so well and engaged with material, explain stuff easily let you know what comes in exam definitely take it with him
One of my favourite classes of first year. Super easy if you took calc in high school.
Dr Noble was a great instructor, but if you have the choice to take MATH1215 over MATH1000, take 1215
Amazing professor, his explanations are really easy to understand even if you haven't taken calculus in high school.
Amazing teacher Rob really made an introduction to dal very easy and chill.
He is the #1 chill guy. Wallahi he has a special place in my heart. I started to skip my other lecturers classes to attend Dr.nobles class and I started to finally understand stuff. One of the only classes I never skipped. The tests are a bit heavy but he always round up the grades.
Dr. Noble is an amazing professor to have for calculus. I found his lectures to be super engaging, and that he explained concepts quite clearly. If you still don't understand something after lecture, his office hours are also super helpful. Additionally, Dr. Noble makes it very clear what you should review and know for the midterm and final exam.
10/10 would recomend taking a course with dr Noble. He gives opportunities to make up for the grades that aren't exactly what you want them to be.
An absolute gigachad. He comes in, gives an amazing lecture for 50 min, then leaves.
One of the best math profs at the school, hands down.
Fantastic teacher, his class boosted my confidence in Calculus and he always willing to help in his additional office hours. He made us ridiculously over prepared for our midterm/exam.
Dr Noble is hands down the best professor I've ever had. The grading criteria is extremely clear and fair, the lectures are short but informative, and he taught the material efficiently enough that we had multiple review classes. The only thing Dr Noble wants is for his students to succeed
I've just gotta say how great of a professor Dr Noble is. I may not have done too well in MATH1010 (Calc II is supposed to be the hardest university calc course after all) but I understand what he taught us. Everything stuck with me and he highlighted all the most important parts of the material
Dr. Noble is a beautiful human, he does everything in his power to ensure your success. He lays exactly out what to expect on exams. If you go to lectures and do the assignments, passing is guaranteed. The content is difficult but made easier by him, he is THE professor to take it with. He is the kindest prof you'll ever meet, he cares greatly.
He was one of the kindest professors I have had the pleasures of having. Even though they are not mandatory, going to the lectures guarantees a good grade. I had to miss 2 weeks from surgery however his class has 2 grading schemes that made it possible for me to still get an alright grade with the time missed.
Professor Noble is the best professor you could ask for, for such a hard course like Calc 2. He ensures that students grasp the concept of each chapter, and most importantly he makes sure you solve them with the easiest ways possible to ensure the student doesn't waste time with hard methods taught previously. Please take Calc 2 with Prof Noble
Literally the best professor you could ask for. Exams are incredibly fair, every question on the exam is almost a copy of something in the homework. If you go to lectures and keep up with homework you're bound to do well.
Rob is the Goat
professor Noble is amazing, clear explanations, easy homeworks and exams
Best math prof at Dal! His grading criteria is very clear and his exams are more than fair. He seems to genuinely care about his student sand their success in the course and is always available to chat. He has a way of making difficult concepts easier to grasp, especially for a course like 1010 which is one of the hardest calculus courses.
Rob is a really funny prof, and he makes sure that you will be prepared for the exam. The exams are very fair in my opinion. However, calc is still a very tough course and requires a lot of practice. One thing is that he favours people who already know calculus rather than those who haven't. He struggled to explain basic concepts of calculus
His teaching style is hard to follow, so I have to study a lot on my own. However, he is great at exam prep. He provides plenty of practice quizzes and warnings about what's on the exam. A big bonus is that he lets you drop your midterm grade if you do better on the final exam allowing me to get the grade I ended with.
His teaching isn't very thorough. He will do something in 20 mins that he should be spending a whole lecture on. Also none of his completed notes are posted since he writes on a chalkboard but he does amazing exam prep. He'll give you the literal questions from the exam. Exam is also super easy to get above 90 on, the questions are really basic.
