Robert Pearce is one tough cookie. He is a great teacher that makes it clear that if you put the effort, you will pass. His lectures are a bit to take in if you're not familiar with the subject. I had a tough time myself, but he knew I put a lot of time in my assignments(even if i didn't get the answer) and my grade reflected that. cool and chill.
He is an amazing instructor. You need to pay attention in his classes or else you end up nowhere. He is extremely helpful. Dont miss the class or tests. NEVER LIE TO HIM.
THE BEST professor ever. if you really want to learn something. he is the only one. AWESOME and GREAT learning experience with him. Learned a lot.
His Lecture is not clear. he will just give you some slides that don't have enough info. he wants you to think out of the way. assignments are tough.
Robert is a great teacher, but Windows Admin is super difficult. I did well on the midterm (A+) but the final exam is practical and I only got 50% like the majority of the class. Make sure you do all the assignments and don't skip class and he will give you a decent grade, if you skip assignments or class he won't. Great teacher, difficult course.
Robert is honestly the best professor I've ever had! I love how he records each of his lectures so that they can be accessed by absent student, or even to reference later. He's a very fair marker and a great guy. As long as you make an effort in the class, you'll do well. However, I found that assignments were crammed at the very end. So beware.
Really enjoyed his teaching style. Almost everything you might need to do for an assignment is demonstrated on a terminal in class. Every lecture is recorded so you can always refer back to those if you get stuck. Assignments were well structured and provided a great practical learning experience. He's always available to help. Highly recommend!
Confusing teacher. Sometimes he uses the board to talk about things but the board is not shown in the video, so in the video you hear him talking about something but can't see what he is talking about. He doesn't explain properly. He speaks as if you already know the subject. He forgets that this is new to students.
Poorly explains topics.
He is incompetent as a teacher since he is always troubleshooting something and can't seem to get things working right.
He is vague and can talk a lot with really giving any details about why anything works or doesnt work.
His lectures are awfully dull, boring and uninspiring...
He seems to assume students are as good at Windows Administration as he is. If you are as well versed in Windows Administration, you should be fine with him. Otherwise, you are in for a rough ride. Good luck - you will need it.
He complains about students not coming to his classes, but students actually learn more from researching online by themselves rather than attending his lectures!
If I had known beforehand that this is the kind of learning experience I was paying for I would not have bothered. I would not take his class again even if I was being paid to do so. Totally worthless!
For someone who has been teaching Windows Administration for years, his presentations are sloppy and last minute and are severely lacking in any understandable detail.
Robert is the kind of instructor that turns people into non-thinking drones. Better to watch YouTube videos than look at his useless presentations. Good luck if you ever have the misfortune of being assigned to his class.
His lectures and assignments are not clear!
Not reliable or keeps his word. He even asks students to keep reminding him to do things he said he would do.
It's hard to understand when he's teaching and the assignments are too difficult.
I definitely wasn't a fan of the way the course was structured. Many classes in the second half of the semester felt very last minute, thrown together and disorganized. Not always clear with expectations.
He's a nice guy, but if you don't have prior knowledge of what you are doing, you are likely going to fail.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but showing respect by coming to class goes a long way with him. Lectures are recorded, which is really handy for review. If you put the work in, and come to class, he will help you succeed! The course material can be a little heavy to learn, but he's willing to answer questions and take the time to walk you through it.
Robert thinks too highly of himself. Students have better alternatives for learning. Both in better videos and quality of information.
Robert is a very sassy guy when you ask him questions and puts a big emphasis on "putting in the work" even when you have a good mark. Regardless, i must say that he does his best to stay up and help students as he stayed till 12 over discord helping us.
This professor doesn't stand by his words. He thinks that students already know Windows Admin when they come to attend Windows admin class. He records his lectures but instead of listening to the 2 hrs lecture, you may check online and complete the steps in 15 minutes. A lot of students dropped out of his class post mid term.
I don't understand the previous reviews. Prof. Pearce was excellent and would definitely recommend. He goes out of his way to help and was found on discord for hours helping those that reached out (including me). Assuming the students leaving bad reviews just didnt do the work.
Amazing prof. If you put the work in you will do well. records lessons which is amazing and marks assignments super fast! Considering that COVID moves us to online, we all had to adjust and he made himself available even more than he had before (which was a lot).
he was awesome. everything he did was well explained and recorded for review. the video is 10x better than any other prof that just reads ppt. he would walk through everything that needed to be installed and configured. assignments took a long time for me but once I finally asked for clarification, I got fast response which was super detailed
He is a good professor! The problem was I am not a good student!
Good Prof, fair and put a lot of effort in communicating with all of the students. Spent an hour with me near midnight walking me through a problem. So, yeah, wish more profs were like him.
This class made me realize all the finer things in life, including looking at the sky, and staring at my wall. Very boring lectures and assignments.
Amazing Professor, Cares about his student's success. Willing to sit down and troubleshoot with you if you are experiencing issues. Put the time and effort in for this class and you will have no issues passing the course.
Awesome prof. If you follow along with his lectures you will do fine. Cares about his students.
A great professor to have, If you put in the effort you will be rewarded, My course was online so lectures were recorded, prof goes step by step throughout the lecture and it is easy to follow along. Would definitely recommend
He might be a good person with knowledge, but he is definitely not a good teacher. Instructions are not clear and don't attempt to explain. A professor is supposed to hold students' hands but instead focuses on humiliating them.
I loved his class because: He was always clear with grading criteria, he always had recording of his lectures, labs were the applications of knowledge of lectures, he was accessible outside of class even for the extracurricular Linux material and he always helped. In my experience Professor Pearce is an excellent teacher, and an excellent mentor
SYST13416 Linux/UNIX-Operating Systems(no this option) a strict professor. you will be asked questions randomly, and be accused if you can't. you should finish the assignments carefully and independently. But if you did well, certainly you would deserve very high marks.
He's a good prof. It was an in-person course, but he still recorded the course and upload it. His assignments have been a little hard you need to do some research online but if you have any questions he would love to answer them.
He didn't even explain what he was going to teach and started jumping from here to there. Inconsistent and lack of integrity. You can find better lectures than this on Youtube. One tip: when you see polarized ratings, ask yourself what it implies. Consistent 2.0 is better than having either 1.0 or 5.0.
He makes you work too much for too little. Extra long 8 hour labs for just a measly 2% and assignments that take forever. He is great at explaining the content and provides good constructive feedback, although he is condescending when you make mistakes. Don't take him.
One of the best professors I've had this semester. Caring, loves answering questions, very very fair, really wants you to do well and understand the content. I learned a lot from him. He is also always willing to help out if you reach him on Discord. :)
Great professor always cares about his students and is very fair if you put in the effort he will as well.
Do the in-class exercises with the class, do the reading and exercises and you will likely get an A. His approach is very practical and hands on rather than just memorizing.
Very interactive and interesting lectures. Always available for additional help outside of class if you need it.
I found Robert to be very kind and understanding. I think hes fair when it comes to assignments/tests. Literally do the bare minimum and pass with a good grade. The assignment instructions he essentially holds your hand for the entire thing and even discusses it in class. Id probably take another class by him given the chance!
Prof Pearce is really helpful and always wants to make sure students actually learn. You can contact him through Discord whenever you have questions and he will respond usually within the same day. His labs/assignments are somewhat difficult and take some time but if you take the time and ask him for feedback whenever your stuck you will do good
Get ready to ACTUALLY learn coding by doing lots of practices. He knows how to teach coding properly. I wish every professor is like him in Sheridan college's computer programs.
Pearce is a very practical minded professor. He bases the entirety of the material around teaching us to actually learn how to do it and apply it to real world scenarios. The only thing is that you must put in the effort but he is always willing to help and be messaged outside of class for aid on assignments/work so long as you reach out.
He is highly knowledgeable prof and always gives you constructive feedbacks. Nothing is beyond his lectures.
do not take
Extremely long labs and long assignments . Gets annoyed when you don't do his 2% lab which takes same amount of work as a project in a different programming class. Tries to give you difficult tasks and exams on purpose because " he wants you to learn " lol. Be prepared to lose 60%+ of the mark because you didn't do something the way he did it .
You definitely learn a lot. He prepares all the teaching material on his own, including the exam, interesting and practical, not like those who just read PPT. You can get an A grade easily if you have done all of his assignments and labs. But if you want an easy grade in this course, dun choose him.
do not take this
He's a good prof, very practical and hands on with the course material. Just come to class and do the work and you'll get the grade you want. Ask him questions too if you need help, he will get back to you really fast.
I have read all ratings before choosing Prof. Pearce's class. Overall it is a good experience. As long as you do all assignments and labs and attend the class or even review the course recordings, it shouldn't be too difficult to get an A. He is not a tough grader and willing to devote his time to guide you through the issues you met.
finished my second semester with Robert and did better this time than the last. He's on Discord to help, class is non-mandatory attendance, he has genuine concern for students well-being & created a positive learning environment. Highly recommend and definitely would take again. Lectures are easy to follow if you attend and do the work. Ez marks!!!
Amazing professor with plenty of experience with the subject matter. He makes it clear that he is accessible outside of class for support and he means it, so don't be afraid to message him. The majority of the class is hands on with lectures showcasing what will be expected from you from assignments and exams so its in your hands to success.
Robert is hands down one of the best professors I've had at Sheridan. If you do the work, you get a good grade, it's as simple as that! He is always available through Discord and willing to help you out when needed. Don't expect to pass if you never attend class, watch the recordings, or do the work.
Best professor for the linux
Do attend his classes, sometimes there might be a surprise waiting for you. I would recommend choosing him as your professor for LINUX. He gives us good feedback on assignments, he is available on Discord to help with queries outside of class.
Good professor, all you need to do is attend his class and review his lecture.
Very good LINUX professor, always very helpful with any questions you have.
Professor that knows his shit AND knows how to teach. If you put in the work you will get hugely rewarded [look out for 'events' around finals :)]. Understanding. Attendance is not mandatory. Lots of bonuses and extras for those that grind. Instructions are very clear and straightforward if you're not drunk while taking them.
He is an Amazing Professor. Take his class if you want to learn a lot of things. If you just want to pass the course without studying then take someone else, but if you want to learn a lot of things you should take him. Also he is always available on discord so if you ever have any problem he will always be ready to help.
Amazing professor!!!
He is someone who really cares about his students learning something and strives for it. He also adds many different resources to his lessons and gives you many tips, including assignments, to help you study. This way, you don't forget what you learned and you try to understand what you don't know.
He's perfect always help with everything assignments and quiz also in midterm and final practical he always willing to help, he will let you use your notes always and no lockdown browser. Very recommended for OS Linux SYST15123
Prof Robert Pearce was genuinely a breath of fresh air for me in college. I was intimidated by Linux, but his clear and organized teaching was a life-saver. At Sheridan you'd often come across professors that can't be bothered to care, but Prof Pearce was different, he is upmost professional, caring, and actually reachable. Go to class people! -KJ
An excellent professor. Gives you every resource and opportunity possible while checking with students if he could do anything better. If you do poorly in one of his classes, its 100% you.
Assignments are very straightforward and tests and quizzes are open book. If you attend the classes, you will most likely get a good grade.
The exams are open book but still hard so just pay attention to his lectures
Best professor you could ask for. Super accessible outside class on Discord. All class material on the tests no surprises. Attendance isn't mandatory thanks to recorded lectures, but trust me, you won't wanna skip—every class is packed with useful info. Put in the effort, and he'll make sure you get the recognition you deserve (aka good grades).
Fair marker and great professor!
Robert is a completely fair professor that asks you to put in effort. If you show up, pay attention and do the work, you will get a good grade. Don't bother taking his class if you are only going to show up for the first week and tests. Even if the tests are open book, if you don't put in the practice, you will have a bad time. 100% recommend.
Hi is a good professor, If you are writing the same code off the professor in the assignment or exam you will get full marks. The exams and quizs are open book.
He is one of the best professors I've ever had. Don't hesitate to ask him questions, even about assignments, he will always answer and help. He truly cares about his students. Best professor ever!
Robert is an awesome prof. He truly wants to help his students learn & succeed but don't expect to be spoon fed. The concepts in this class are not difficult. If you put in some real effort, your reward/outcome will be beyond fair. Would love to take another one of his classes again if the opportunity ever arose. Thanks for the great semester! 😊
This professor is truly exceptional! He's always approachable, willing to help with assignments, and genuinely cares about his students.
Excellent professor, very easy course to pass. He does everything for students so that they do not fail the course.
Amazing Professor. He truely wants you to learn. If you attend all the classes and put in effort in the class, you will definitely get a good grade. All the tests and quizes are open book but you need to work hard if you want to get good grades in them.
Take him if you really wanna learn the course.. amazing lectures and advisor. faced some difficulties at the beginning because of my own laziness but if you show some effort he will definitely help you through the process. would love to take him again.
open book exams and quizes
Honestly, if you can get in his class - you'll actually learn. Awesome lectures, professor goes in depth, clarifies anything you don't understand, and really knows the subject well. Assignments are marked in an “it works or it doesn't” fashion but if you actually follow his guidelines, there is no reason for your assignment not to work. 10/10 👍
This proff really wants you to learn. He responds very fast outside of class. Although I do wish he was a little bit more of a easy marker I would take him again. Linux is a very difficult class but the proff breaks it down to make us understand. His assignments and exams are difficult but I will say exactly what he teaches is what is on the exam.
Will help you in ways you don't realize. From my experience, all you need to do is reach out to him and he's so eager to help! He said it himself, he highly respects those willing to learn. Literally a dad All the material you need is there. His lectures are in-person AND recorded. You can reach him via discord, email, in person, Slate anytime!!
Even if you struggle go to him hes understanding and amazing! Oh captain, my captain!!
The teacher is very familiar with the teaching materials and has rich project experience. After each class, he will manually complete the course notes and share them. The only regret is that the course is too short.
Had him for Linux which, to me, was a very difficult subject, but he definitely helped make it easier. He was tough but fair. He likes things being done a certain way
He put a lot of effort in class and as well as off campus through discord. Gives clear feedback and motivate to learn overall he is really good instructor.
The prof is amazing: reachable outside the class anytime, polite, funny, respectful, passionate about his teaching, interesting to talk to, helps you understand. He records the lectures. The Linux class is intense and complicated so I watched each lecture couple times. It helps to prep for the quizzes and assignments.
The best Linux professor you can ask for. It's really unfair that someone like him has a rating of 3.5. Notice that all the negative ratings are from people who struggle to write a comprehensible sentence in English.
