Lecture is interesting, although he makes NUMEROUS Vietnam era references, sometimes the same one over and over. His quizzes are a bit different so you might fail the first one, but they are easy to catch onto after that. An "A" in this class
Very interesting and informative. He will challenge you intellectually but is not difficult academically. Consistent assignments are easy to follow. Plus, he has a mullett
He definitely has a mullet. Very interesting lectures though and once you get the hang of the way the quizzes are done and if you do your hw then its an easy class.
Mr. Pollard is a great teacher! Tells you what you need to know and sticks with it. Plus, he has many great stories. Easy A if you learn the method.
Interesting man. He lets you know exactly what to do and doesn't change. Just show up for class on time, turn in Q&A's, take the tests and you'll get an A.
awesome teacher!
A true Humanities professor. Great class structure. He lets you know straight off the bat what to expect; attendance is crucial (on certian academic plan) If you want a class that will get you out of the "box" take Prof.Pollard.
this guy is a joke. his teaching is about as effective as a sleigh dog with 3 legs. sure his class is easy, but I didn't like his attitude.
Professor Pollard is consistent, which is nice, but is lectures are a bit repetitive. HAHA.. And that mullet is TOO much! LMAO... You can get a good grade if you just come to class and turn in your assignments. Very helpful and passionate about his job.
Great teacher. Pay attention to his policy because he will stick to it. His lectures can drag on sometimes but they really do teach you a lot about life. Do your Q&A's and study them and you won't have any problem in this class.
His classes very streight forward. Each student must attend class every day and turn in his or her Qs and As on the exact due day. He has a Plan A and a Plan B of grading procedures it is better to stick to Plan A.
great teacher! i would definitly take him again if i could.
He tells interesting and funny stories in class to emphisies with his point and always teaches us the important stuff.
Best teacher you will ever have, period.
He is a very excellent teacher. He always goes by the policy. Each and every one of his classes are very interestingly funny, because he would lecture the class about a funny story and tie it into to the subject matter of Humanities.
Would'nt take him again. If you like to participate in class, not happening. His stories are boring and exaggerated. If you like immature comments about smoking pot, you may like him. Quizzes are oral and 5 questions. Wants to teach you about pressure.
He is a joke. He is always so off topic. If you want a teacher who will actually teach then definately dont take this class. plus his personality just annoyed me AND he has a mullet.
the class itself was pretty easy, but if you have political views of any kind...you will end up very upset after class. he complains about everything, but if that isn't that important to you, you should do fine...just pay attention, and you'll pass.
Please ignore that one negative rating about this professor. He does actually teach. All of jokes pertain to the important stuff that he teaches in class.
OH MY GOD.....you can sleep in this class and he doesn't care! I come to class, put my stuff on my desk, sit there for about 5 minutes, go outside and talk on my cell phone and then come back in about 5 minutes before class is over. He gives you 15 minutes before the test to study. E-A-S-Y as heck!!
I thought that the 5 question tests brought about a lot of performance anxiety. You have about 5 seconds to answer the question, and if you don't have the answer off the top of your head, your screwed. I did well in his class, but I can see how others might feel a little pressure. I did make a 40
This is not a hard class if you can stand this professors lack of personality.I thought I was back in high school. Assigned seating is b.s. when the professor is to lazy to look around and see who's in the class. You are assigned a number like in prision that you put on your quizes and home work.
Great teacher, class was interesting, easy A.
Holy Cow this class is easy. The only thing about this guy is that he is full of BS, he gives statistics that you need to take with a grain of salt. Just listen to the overall idea that he is trying to get across, its interesting and the only thing you have to worry about is staying awake, not easy.
terrible teacher!! how could you make so many good comments on him? I Hated this class. He is SO off topic its not even funny. Dont take him!!
Oh, stop it. He was a great teacher, with a hilarious mullet and huge sense of humor. He likes telling stories and debating with students to make them think, not because he's an egomaniac. The quizzes aren't for slackers, but in the end, you can aquire enough extra credit to make up the difference.
I thought he was a great teacher, his so called "off the wall commenets" were what kept his class interesting.I would take him again if I had to.
So. Easy. Gah.
Best Teacher, and wonderful teaching techniques. He has a great sence of humor and you will definatly benifit from his lessons. You write your own quizes! We watch movies, and listen to music! I loved him, he is awesome. Passed with Joy! You should really take him.
great teacher! best ever. would take him anytime.
if u dont get an A in this class u just didnt try. minimal studying and one should acquire an easy A. besides that Pollard teaches u about life. i learned so much from this guy and it was a breeze. "u can live on beer and peanutbutter for four years" take him and ull be better for it
Professor Pollard is a great teacher. His class is very intresting and the course material is not bad at all. If you need a humanities take this teacher.
He's my favorite professor so far at FCCJ. Some of the things he says really make you think about your own life and incorporating arts and music into it. I He's very easy and you can choose if you want to come to class everyday or just come for just tests.
By far my favorite teacher at FCCJ or ever for that matter. Granted he is a little strange (the noises he makes are odd) but the content of his lectures arent only about factual info but lessons you can take with you in life. He made me appreciate art and literature.
Very fun and interesting teacher...would take him for every class if i could. Its very esy as llong as you do the work whick isnt much and come to class
Very fun and interesting teacher...would take him for every class if i could. Its very esy as llong as you do the work whick isnt much and come to class
this guy is awesome! it's really hard to fail his class. the best, funniest, and most interesting lectures i've ever heard!
This professor should be elected for president. :) I love attending his class. He is very smart and funny as well, and his class is never boring, which I find awesome.
He is very knwledgeble. He always had great jokes.
He made his class very interesting and the tests were beyond easy, all you had to do was do the work and study for a bit but he made things very clear. Best teacher i had yet
This professor is just a great professor. I love going to his class. If you need to take Humanities, take his class.
The guy is a little nutty, but he is a really good teacher and very intelligent. I actually learned a lot in his class. He even has a wavy mullet...it's so awsome!!
His class is not as easy as a lot of you are saying. I think at least 10 ppl dropped because they were failing humanities. You would be required to write 40 Q&A and memorize them for every quize(10 Quizes). He has an obsession with serial killers and a lot of times he just uses the same jokes. His funny examples don't make any sense sometimes.I have
he is by far the worst teacher i have ever had! he is boring and his jokes are all the same and he SUCKS and the worst part is you would think i failed his class, but i got an A but i promise you, DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
This professor also teaches Philosophy so no matter what class you take you will learn so much more than just your subject matter. He can be a little fruity from time to time but he is super intelligent. If you study from the guides he gives you there's no reason not to make an 'A'. Actually a very easy teacher. Take his course with an open mind.
He is full of****, he treats you like an idiot, He feeds lies and false statistics, He repeats himself every day, like he says the same jokes to every class and can't remember that he has already said something 10 times. He thinks he is out there and in your face, but really he is just lame. Presents his opinions as facts. Got an A, but hated it
great teacher.. knows what he talking about.. got an A.. he made class fun..
Very funny man and very interesting class... guess you want know unless you sign up... lol have fun
You need to work in his class, but he keeps it interesting. Although some didn't like his style, I thought it was OK and I learned alot. Don't take his class if you're not prepared to work.
Awesome professor. He is the greatest, take him for any course he teaches, you will be entertained. HE IS GREAT
OK.... So, this guy is Off-His-Rocker... He would talk about the most OFF-TOPIC things and you would be asleep by the time he arrived at his point. But over-all the class was really, really easy. If you came AND did the homework you would have a 75% over all. Be careful if you Hate old Doc. Films because there will be one every other class.
He makes a 3-hour class go by quickly because he talks about the most interesting things in the most interesting ways. He's REALLY funny too. His tests are a little hard, but if you read, you'll be fine. The only thing is he's ab attendance NAZI. A lot of your grade with him is attendance, but the class is fun.
This guy seemes to know alot about every imaginable subject known to man. Be prepared to do alot of writing, he keeps you busy. All you have to do is show up, do your time consuming study guides and study for your quizzes. He grades your study guides on completeness not information, make they are through, he tends to ask obscure questions on quizes
this guy is an amazing teacher. he looks just like hugh laurie too and i love house. his class is easy to pass. all u have to do it show up everyday on time and you have an easy time passing, the HW is simple, the only thing that was hard was his quizes. but if u pay attenion u should pass them too. he makes u see things in another view point.
GREAT TEACHER!!!! He loves the book, so hold it like a bible. Make sure that you at least make 2-3 other friends to help out with the homework. But other than that grade are easy, 5 quiz questions on every chapter. no midterm no final!!!
Easy class but, way too much work!!!!!
take this class other than it being easy, the teacher gives GREAT lectures. 20 questions a week for homework and it can be done as a group, 5 questions each week for a quiz and thats it, really really easy class and very very interesting
Attendence is 45% of grade; quizzes 25%; study guides 30%. I had an 8 week class--it was horrible to sit throught this guy talking nonstop for 6 hours a week..but after the 8 weeks, i was so relieved to have it over with!! study for the quizzes, get in groups to do study guides, and be there! and you'll make an A! :)
100% attendance and turn in all study guides, guaranteed a 75! Do decent on the quizzes you'll def get a B. 80 is the highest I made on the quizzes, and the rest 40 and below, i made it out with a B :) ... Interesting class as well, pretty funny professor, repeats jokes
This class was hard, but only because of the 5 question quizes. you have to come to this class every day or you fail. This professor looks like the guy who plays Greggory House. He was alot like the character too...
GREAT!!! PROFESSOR I really liked this class! Study Guides really helped with the tests and he relates everyday life to help with retaining the material! I made a B in this class and I am very much so glad I took this course!!!
Simply put, take this guy. You learn so much about so many different things, he's really good at opening your mind. Just go in and listen a bit and you'll see what I mean. Other than that just get into groups, divide the homework, show up every time, and ace the first few quizzes while they're easy. Do all that and guaranteed A.
He has made it impossible to fail.
If you are smart take this class!!! just so someone can pass his quizes! he has made it impossible to fail the class though. if you have a smart mouth i would suggest him. you'll laugh the whole class.
I liked Pollard, but his quiz's are impossible. He will pick the most minute detail for the quiz. I haven't passed one yet and I was a 4.0 prior to this class. You have a weekly study guide that you can do in a group. Mandtry attend and weekly quiz. No final,no midterm. Attend each class, do each study guide, guarant 75 with no quiz. Easy B
This class is pretty easy as long as you can keep up with your groupmates and even then you can still dont get counted off if some1 doesnt turn in their part. ATTENDENCE is 45% of your grade! DO NOT TAKE IF YOUR NOT GOING TO SHOW UP. His quizzes are impossible but as long as you go to class and do your study guides..you'll get at least a C
This class was much more interesting than I thought it was going to be. Professor Pollard makes it interesting because he speaks on our level. His quizzes are SUPER tough but as long as you show up for class you can't fail. I would strongly recommend this class to anyone who can keep a good attendance record. You miss 3 classes and your fail.
he was a lot of fun. he really opens your mind!!!
I would def. recommend him. I got an A in this class. Attendance is mandatory and the quizzes are 5 questions from your study guides. You have groups for your study guides. If you show up for class everyday, and do your study guide and get 50% on all the quizzes, you are gauranteed an A.
a plus
Highly recommended! You can tell he has been teaching a long time, he knows exactly what he is doing. Very clear explaining the course and what is expected of you. His lecture delivery is almost always amusing. Read the book, do your study guides, and show up you'll have an A guaranteed.
The class itself is easy. However, I dread listening to him talk. Pollard will suck any optimistic thought out of your mind.
He is the man, probably my favorite proffesor. You will either love him or hate him. Entertaining lectures for me. He is a no non-sense type of person and speaks his mind. Has a personality simular to Simon Cowl (American Idol). Show up, do the study guides, and actually study for the tests, and it's a pretty easy A.
Professor Pollard is a very intelligent man! His lectures have humor to them which is great so you don't fall asleep. Come to all classes (mandatory), do study guides and answer at least 1 or 2 questions right on your quizes & you should walk away with at least a "B"..The quizes are not easy but only 5 questions
He does not take crap from no one (even the main office). He treats you like an adult in the real world and expects nothing less then what a work would make you do.
Even tho I got a C in his class, the class was super easy. I didn't do exactly what I should of in the beginning of the class, so that got me my C. He makes you do Study Guides for each chapter with 20 topics(which he chooses) to outline and then type it up. Very easy to do. study your outline after he grades it and then a 5 question oral test.
75% of the grade is attendance and the study guides Study guides are a pain to do but easy there are 8 quizzes that are oraly 5questions. I didnt really study for them and the highest grade i got on one of them was 80 the rest where 20 and i got a B in the class. He is a very chill teacher talks to you and treats you like the real world would.
ok, people this pfroff is really nice. class itself is easy study guides need to be done (20 terms every weak) quizzes ugh that?s the hard part of this class there is only 5 question but they r difficult and complicated. but u'll be fine if you do your study guides and come to class because attendance is 45% of this class so be carefull!good luck!
Professor Pollard is THE BEST teacher I have ever had. He has a great sense of humor which keeps class interesting. Attendance is 45% of your grade, so make sure you show up to every class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO EVERYONE!
TAKE HIM! TAKE HIM! TAKE HIM!!! Super easy teacher. He has a great sense of humor which keeps class interesting. Attendance is 45% of your grade so make sure u show up to class.
This prf. needs an attitude adjustment and an english teacher. He constantly contradicts himself. Has a very sad outlook on life and apparently hates americans and thinks we're all stupid (except him). The ONLY thing I can say I liked about him was his humor but even that was some times too over the top.
DONT BUY BOOK!! Attendance is an absolute mandatory for this class. its part of the grade. If u love having no HMWK, this guy's great. Ill give him a 3 for easy because of no hMWk. BUT his quizez r BS, he literally comes up with them off the top of his head. no one will get an A in this course, but if your looking for an easy B/C take em! GO JAGS!
He is my favorite teacher so far! If you don't mind getting the grade you have earned then take him. He makes what he teaches fun and entertaining. All you have to do is go to class and do the study guides!
You need the book for the study guides. Do the study guides, show up, and the quizzes are crazy. They are 5 ques .. I never got a 100 but I got an A. He is entertaining. He lectures the whole time. Quizzes are on the SG not the lecture so you can zone out.
A lot of work! If you are not willing to put in hours of work time then this is not the class for you. You have a very long study guides (20 questions) about topics in the chapter(s). All topics MUST be a paragraph (4-5 sentences. About 3-4 pages.) Tests are very difficult and are always on the tiniest details.(only 5 questions & oral). HARD CLASS!
One of the easiest class you will ever going to take in college. easy A..just go to class because attendance is extremely important. 50% of grade is attendance, 25% by doing the study guide, and 25% for quizzes...I RECOMMEND HIM....
The most easy class at FSCJ so far. Just show up in class and do the study guides and you will pass. Getting an A is also very easy just gotta study the right stuff.
Awesome.
Do the study guides, show up to class, and score at least a 50 on his quizzes and you will receive an A. He's interesting and knows what he's talking about. He treats you like a college student, not a sophomore in high school.
Pretty easy class, a lot of work though; more time consuming than hard. He's really interesting and funny. Im definitely taking him again for other class he teaches. As long as you show up and do your work, you will most likely get an A. Oh, and did i mention, there's no exams? :)
He was sooo boring. He said the same thing every class. Class attendance was 45%. The quizzes weren't too bad but the study guides we had to make every week were very time consuming. If you basically show up for class and do the study guides you will pass the class.
Professor Pollard is a character! He is incredibly smart and hilarious. I loved the things I learned in this class and will carry it on for the rest of my life. Attendance and study guides are most of your grade. The study guides are easy, just time consuming. Quizzes are tough, but are VERY little of your grade. TAKE THIS CLASS!
He's a great teacher. He's interesting about the subjects he chooses to talk about and he can keep your attention.
This is one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. The only problem, the guy is a complete idiot. He never talks on subject, and he asks questions on the quiz that he knows you wont get right, just to see you squirm. (he even says that) Attendance is the highest part of your grade. Quizzes are the least. I wouldn't go if it wasn't a grade
My advice would be not to take him. The quizzes are stupid.
Professor Pollard is interesting and smart, but he never talked on topic and always went on the same random rants about political and international issues. I think he just uses his class as a place to vent. Quizzes are brutal, do not take him if this isn't your only class.
Professor Pollard has mixed reviews but honestly this class is not that hard, I found it very interesting. 45% of your grade is just showing up. Study guides are time consuming get a partner or 2 and split the workload. Quizzes are challenging but not that difficult if you review the materials. Don't take this class if you can't show up on time!
I enjoyed this class. His classes only involve him lecturing off topic about the world. Never about the book or quizzes. Attendance is 45% of your grade. Quizzes are not a big deal as long as you do the study guide for each chapter. Hes blunt and curses a lot. Treats you like adults. Expects you to be on time. Easy B or C if you do the work
Attend class every day and complete all his study guides and you will end up with a passing grade. His quizzes were not as easy. Personally struggled with them. Professor likes to talk a lot, so come to class with open ears.
If you're good with attendance take him! One of the easiest A's I've received. He's a different kind of person. I didn't like his personality much. He literally cursed the whole class out the first day. I was going to drop him, but I didn't. If you come to class,do the study guides, and attempt the quizzes you should get an A!
Do not take this class. No homework, essays, or class work just a couple of quizzes throughout the term. Quizzes are all 5 questions and done verbally. Nearly impossible to study for.
Awesome class! His lectures are so interesting! He elaborates on everything and is very intelligent! He challenges you and makes you think. 8 study guides(they take awhile to do) and 8 quizzes, amazing lectures every class. ATTENDANCE IS THE BIGGEST PERCENTAGE OF THE CLASS GRADE. Love love love his class!!!
This class is highly intellectual! If you are a cinder block who only wants a grade, take someone else. If you want a cerebral course on the history of being an American, then this is your class. Yes, there is work. But if you attend class, stay awake, occassionaly participate, and do your assignments, you cannot get anything less than a "B".
This is my post-secondary degree. I've attended another university abroad, but Prof.Pollard is so far the best. His lectures very interesting. I think they are "must have" for everyone.
Attendance:45% Study Guides:30% Quizzes:25%. 8 study guides (time consuming but simple), 8 quizzes (5 oral qs..difficult if you don't spend a lot of time studying. Struggled with quizzes but got an A b/c of attendance & study guides. Very interesting course & he's different but nice if you're responsible.. highly recommend.
Prof. Pollard strongly believes in socialism and pushes his agenda. There is a reason why he makes attendance mandatory because he uses psychological indoctrination techniques, such argumentum ad nauseam, on young impressionable students to adsorb his ideals. He does make some valid philosophical points though. Weak minded students stay away.
This class was great!
Attendance is the biggest portion of your grade and he expects you to be responsible for yourself. Not everyone is going to like his opinions, but his main goal is to get you to think a little more for yourself. He does like to talk the entire class, but I enjoyed his perspective on things and agree with a lot of what he says.
He is very old fashioned in the sense that he assigns homework straight from the book and expects his students to be in class every day (DUH). In all honesty, it's a really simple class as long as you show up (45% of grade) and do your study guides and take the quizzes. If you get below an A in the class, blame yourself because he makes it simple.
SHOW UP TO CLASS AND DO YOUR STUDY GUIDES. It is literally THAT simple, ladies and gents. Quizzes are not easy but not impossible.
THE worst attitude of any professor I've ever had. The minute the first class started he just started basically insulting the class. He contradicts himself constantly if you listen to him talk. He mostly uses class to shove his opinions down your throat, acting as if they're facts. His arguments are insultingly poorly crafted and full of holes.
Come to class and do your study guides and you will be fine. His lectures are repetitive but interesting. Quizzes are five verbal questions, easy if you did the study guide.
Love this professor he's a great teacher. He doesn't make you learn, he makes you want to learn. There's no mid-term or final in his class, but there's eight quizzes. He gives you more then enough time to study for the quizzes, and they are all passable. If you don't pass this class with a B or higher you have only yourself to blame.
Attendance and study guides is counted the most in your grade. He give oral quizzes and you wont know what kind of question he will say but the quizzes don't harm the grade as much as not attending the class and doing your study guides. In class he talk, talk, talk, barely give out notes on board, and give his opinions a lot. Overall, easy to pass.
Professor Pollard is a very bright and very intellectual man. He will not sugar coat things and tells it like it is. You really have to critically think in his class and you earn the grade that you put the effort towards. If you read the chapters, make the outlines, and pay attention to his lectures, you will do just fine.
LITERALLY all you have to do is show up every day, do the study guides, and get a C on your quizzes and you'll pass with at least a B. His lectures are long, boring, biased, etc. Take him for an easy A though. Probably the most straight forward class you'll take.
Test are almost impossible to pass.. do your study guides! and take good notes!!!
Professor Robert M Pollard was an "ok" teacher. He did teach pretty well I guess, but his tests are five questions that are oral. You have to go to class everyday and hand in your STUDY GUIDES ON TIME! He sumitted my grade as "C", but turns I actually got an A. I transposed your grade with another student as I entered the grades." Beware! Good luck
He expects us to learn by taking our own notes from the textbook and never talks about what's going to be on the test. I knew from the first day of class that I would not like his class. I decided to stick with it because I thought it would get better, it never did. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM!
If you want to know your grade in the class dont take this teacher because you will not know your grade the whole semester.. That will kinda stress you out when you fail all the quizes because it's impossible to pass. He gives 8 quizes 5 oral questions from a study guide of 20 words that you have to read about and think of what he might as onquiz
If you are just trying to get hum2020 over with abd get a B/C take him, but if you are trying to get an A to keep your gpa popping dont take him because most likely you will not get that A. For an A youd have to pass his verbal quizes which are kinda tough. Im sure there is a better professor out there! This one wasnt for me.
Mr. Pollard is a cool teacher that requires you to be in class and he assigns everybody with study guides as homework. The study guides are mandatory and every two weeks he quizzes you on the study guide. The quizzes aren't that bad and aren't a big part of your grade as attendance and study guides.
ATTENDANCE IS 45% OF YOUR GRADE! quizzes are hard but you could fail all of them and still get a B just do your study guides (its a easy 100). he talk the whole hour and a half but i was always on my phone. you can't sleep in class... just go to class EVERYDAY and your good
This class was extremely fun, professor is hilarious and down to earth, which is why the attendance being 45% of your grade is pretty awesome, because the class is actually enjoyable. The study guides are long but he grades them pretty easily, vice versa for the quizzes though. Oh, and no final exam.
Overall great teacher. Even though this is a lecture class he knows how to keep students attention and students actually want to listen to what he has to say. A book is essential to passing and so is studying because hes test can be rather hard.
Professor pollard is a know it all, but he is sarcastic and hilarious. If you just do the study guides and come to class you won't have anything lower than a B
I thought this class was amazing! Professor Pollard was extremely funny. The quizzed were kind of tough but if you follow his instructions and the syllabus, you will pass.
He expects you to read the book and learn it yourself, and gives 5 oral questions from the study guide (which is just your notes) that are sometimes completely random. he barely skims over the subject in his lectures, and instead tries to force opinions onto you and talk about his life. Easy B, though.
