12 out of 19 failed his first test. Do I need to say more?
Notes are unclear, does not go over problems in class, tests dont reflect what he goes over in class, gets off subject, must be able to teach material to your self to pass class.
Dont know about 3724, but his case class is AWEsome. He really shows you how to run a business and even gave a stock tip - Im up 20% in a month! Best prof Ive had at ECU and I graduate next month. Yeah, he's tough, but if you work, you learn a TON. Cant say that about many ECU classes.
He is the best professor I have ever had. If you want to learn, he will help you every time even weekend. You will learn real stuff in his class and may not forget it ever. If you are a finance major, you should expected the course is hard, but the key is-- ask question, read the book. I felt learn s
BEST in FINA dept! Wish he was around before now. The material is only hard if you're lazy, don't try or care to learn, or if you just want an easy grade. Makes sure you learn for good. ALWAYS available and helpful. But you have to work too, you know, like LIFE?! Come to learn, or get someone else!
If you actully want to learn somthing unlike the majority of ECU, take this class. Just make sure you ask questions when you need to. He is always available for help. I probably should have gotten a "B", but with his help I got an "A". So if you want an easy "A" go somewhere else. Come here to learn
Dr. Prati is a great teacher that works hard to make sure you learn the material. He is always available to help if needed and goes out of his way to make sure you understand the concepts in finance.
Dr. Prati is a really supportive teacher. He's very sincere, which I admire. He'll out of his way to help you more than any other professor I've had at ECU so far. Just to clarify, so many people failed the first test because they did not come to the review sessions which are infinitely valuable.
Great guy, but impossible tests. 20% attendance pulled up my grade big time. The cases are fun, but the exams are hard! He is a very caring guy and wants to help everyone, so just ask questions and NEVER SLACK. This is a HARD course.
Dr. Prati is an awesome professor. He is NOT easy, but compared to some of the nightmares of finance I have heard from other MBA Students (about Buck and Sprecher), Dr. Prati is a god sent! The cases are tough, the test are hard as hell, but overall, he wants you to learn and has high expectations
If Prati has one fault it's that he's TOO concerned with your understanding of a subject. I would get bored to death while he explained concepts to the slow kids in class for the umpteenth time. If you were paying attention at all in your lower level finance classes and retained ANY of the information you learned in them, this class shouldnt be a problem for you. Prati is cool, the cases can be a drag but will maintain your grade very well. Tests really werent that hard..

Sorry I delayed reviewing this professor - he is amazing. When I read some of the lame reviews, I realize that the whiners are usually the ones to complain. Why go to college? Hopefully to learn and get a good education. Dr Prati is fascinating, articulate & master of the material. If only the rest of the department had such talent. Top Notch A+
Hard class. Hard to take notes because he's all over the place. Tests aren't so bad because they cover concepts and not just math. The required homework is a drag....feels like high school busy work type stuff. Willing to help if you have problems.
Great professor, very fair, easy going. Must attend class and pay attention. Missing one day of this class is similar to missing a week in most other classes. Yes, there is required homework, but it helps you to understand the Material. One of the best professors, at ECU. Probably over qualified to teach the FINA 3724 class.
He aint ez, but Im learning alot. I like finance and making money, so its a cool clas, but a lot more work than I thougt. Real helpful if you ask him or go see him, but tough class. Goes fast and lots and lots of notes. Take REALLY good notes! He tests alot from notes more than book.
Horrible class. Switch concentration to avoid.
Worst professor in department. Doesn't teach - expects other finance professors to teach material. Tells you it will be stress free in beginning and that is a complete lie. Get ready to have a miserable semester with him.
Horrible person, horrible teacher! Treats students unfair and expects you to know everything. If I knew the material ahead of time, there would be no need for me to take the class. If you are a FINA major there is no way to avoid having him as a teacher.

Really knows his stuff. Tough but fair.

Not nearly as bad as some would hav eyou believe. Lots of work, and yuo have to review the book, but if you work at it, anyone can make an A. I did, and I usually make B's. PRati helps you out if you need it, you just gotta ask him. Its clear he really wants you to learn and he makes you think, which is cool.
Prati was awesome. It was hard, I admit, but I learned more than ALL MY OTHER CLASSES COMBINED! I'm gonna have an A or B, but it all came together and now my other finance classes seem way easy. Prati scared me at first, but its clear he cares and wants you tolearn. He even helps you form groups where you'll learn from classmates. Great class!
Class was aweful, if he likes you, you will get a good grade if not you might fail. He gives a biased point of view on erything he teaches about, and cinstantly brags about himself. The bad thing is there is no way around him.
Incredibly demanding class. He will spend the majority of his time bragging about how hes gods gift to finance. He will not be helpful and always seems to find ways around doing the right thing.
I took both 4734 and 4404 with Prati. He said how easy 4404 is and how hard 4734 is, but I made an A in 4734 and only a B in 4404. I think it depends on your math skills. I learned more with Prati than in any other bus-class I've had, but it was a LOT of work. Prati's great, tells funny stories and is very fair, but HE IS TOUGH. No easy A here.
I had Dr. Prati in both 4734 and 4404 and learned more with him than any of my other business classes. Dr. Prati has a desire for all of his students to learn and is available to students outside class. The class does require work but Dr. Prati is very reasonable and understanding. Anyone serious about a career in finance needs to take Dr. Prati!
Worst teacher I have ever had in college. He knows his finance but is not there to teach you what he knows, rather brag about what he knows and if you can keep up then you will be ok. Horribly arogant and self absorbed. He gives a subjective curve on his exams and if he doesnt like you then your likely gonna fail. He enjoys failing people!!!!
I had Dr. Prati last spring & am now graduating with a great job in bad market, in large part due to Dr. P. I write this partly to thank him and to point out that the moron in 4404 who criticized him in several posts must be the ONE idiot who failed that course. And while Dr. Prati is not fond of imbeciles, I seriously doubt he likes failing them.
I dont know how he is in class, but I have him online this semester. So far, he seems a bit strict and formal even, but his quizzes are cake and if you post in the chats, you earn particapation points. Doesn't seem bad at all. Will update after my midterm if anything changes, but cool so far! :-)
AVOID! This is coming from an A student (except for this class). Dr. Prati is pompous and self-absorbed. He is disorganized and pretty much impossible to follow. He says he cares, but really only about the people who are good at finance. If you're not financially savy, take another professor and save yourself the headache.
Someone must clearly hate the guy cause it looks like the same bad post over and over here, but i just got back my CURVED test #1 and make an A. he's real easy on grades if you ACTUALLY WORK & STUDY like i did, and Im no genious, but now I'm starting to like this finance stuff! Prati's okay by me.
Tuff, tuff, tuff class!@ I did not expect to earn a 'B' but Prati curved heavy! Learned alot, but also SWEATED all semester. If u wanna learn life lessons and how finance works IRL, take Prati. Otherwise, beware!
Took the class online with Tibbs, Eakins and Prati. Overall good course, with a lot of work to do. The professors are very involved and their efforts don't go unnoticed. Listen to their advice and you should do well. Homework problems and quizzes due basically every week. Use the dotlearn supplements as much as possible.
Took the online class with Drs. Tibbs, Eakins and Prati. Great class, but with a lot of work! You MUST keep up! The professors are very accessible and try hard to help you. Listen to their advice, do the work, and an A is reasonably earnable. The dotlearn supplements & Centra w/Dr. Prati help TONS.
Took the online class with Drs. Tibbs, Eakins and Prati. Great class, learned a TON, but more work than any other MBA class I've had! You MUST keep pace in class! The professors are very accessible and try hard to help you. Listen to their advice, do the work, and an A is reasonably attainable. Dotlearn supplements & Centra w/Dr. Prati help TONS.
He is a very nice man but when it comes to teaching, I would advise you to take another professor. He teaches the students as if we have been doing finance all our life. He gives you homework problems that he did not go over in class and expects you to get it. If you don't get it he claims that he is very concerned... That Is a NEGATIVE!!
Very self-absorbed, Congrats on your tenure...now teach. A lot of the problems you will have to find on your own. He will have around 63 arrows on the chalkboard connecting the notes together (confusing). Take another professor, this guy is too smart to relate to students and actually teach the material. Take with easier classes very demanding!
If your a finance major, Prati really makes you htink hard! I had to go by ALOT for HELP, but he's really kinda nice and happy to show you. You can't just study and go to class tho, you REALLY have to do ALL the work and reread ALOT, but I learned a ton, and he curved me hard to an A. Smartest prof I've had, but doesn't curve everyone I heard.
Worst Teacher at ECU, very full of himeself, if they audited the way he curves, he would prob be fired.
He is horrible about making things "easier" for you. Explains things in too much detail. Smart guy but cannot break it down for understanding. I would take a diff professor.
Dr. Prati is an excellent professor. For students interested in finance, and willing to work hard, this will be a very good class to gain a solid foundation for the future.
Dr. Prati taught my online introductory MBA finance class. Team-taught, it is very well organized and all the help you need is also offered. Finance is demanding, however; so don't let anyone fool you about that. I expect that if you are a serious student, you will like Dr. Prati. If not, you will not. Personally, I enjoyed him & learned much.
Dr. Prati takes atleast to respond to emails and does not offer any help. On several discussion board posts he will say "refer to the book" where the book is not clear. I had to drop his online class and will take the class again in the fall under a differnt professor. STAY AWAY!!
take under different professor. horrible.
His class is very hard. If you're not a finance major you take someone else if you are a finance major he is fantastic. He's hard and you have to put it a lot of work and effort but you learn tons!!! he takes phone calls and is more than willing to help you with anything if you call him or go to his office hours.
First, I was going online to rag him, but as hard as his class is, I'm getting it now. He's defintely tough, but he's always helpful if you ask. I now understand finance MUCH better than I used to (having hated it before), and it does make sense finally, being very logical. In short, he expects you to work your tail off, and rewards those who do!
The class is hard, but Prati goes out of his way to help students. Took it online, team taught, but he was the only one giving help and holding additional online sessions to discuss hard concepts. Expects a lot, but gives a lot as well. Doesn't tolerate whiners, which I like as well. It is grad school, after all! Favorite class thus far.
I've been in the library more for this class than I did for my entire undergrad. There is a lot of work for this class; however, if you do what he asks, it is possible to get an A in the class. A little tire of hearing about the yaht he is going to buy though. We all know how rich and smart you are! Great professor though!
Online, group taught. All professors extremely helpful & make expectations extremely clear. Do all the HW & review all the online text book resources as well as references posted on Bb and you'll do fine. Finance can be a hard area of study, but the professors give you every chance to succeed, you only need to do the work.
Awful teacher. So tied up with details, he misses the point. Do not submit your picture before as asked. He will use it to make judgements as to how to grade students.
This was a graduate course, so suffice it to say that I have experienced many professors in my scholastic career. Prati is hands down the worst prof I have had the misfortune of having to deal with. He is unreasonable, and plays favorites. Absolutely avoid him at all costs if you can.
Had Prati for 6144 last semester, in 6604 now. Saw some of the comments on here & was shocked by the last 2 posts. Probably by the same person, as I don't know ANYTHING about photo-judging or playing favorites! Prati was awesome online, & I like him even better in the classroom! The 3 hours fly by! (Socialists will NOT like him tho, very outspoken)
This professor is sadistic. Do not take him. He gloats openly about writing test questions to trick students into selecting the wrong answer. He uses material from other instructors and doesn't bother to review it for errors. Run away from this one.
This teacher is RIDICULOUS! Gives homework & quizzes with info 100x harder than what the text explains & refuses to show you what you got wrong. He constantly brags on discussion boards about how ECU coddles students and that he makes ?s hard on purpose. If you want a decent grade, take a different instructor. I am an A student & barely passed
This is an instructor to avoid. In a previous semester, I took this professor and was getting a C. I dropped the class and I'm taking now with a different professor. My grade is now a very high A. The previous comments about bad tests and this professor having a huge ego are 100% correct. You do not want to take this professor.
Not easy, but fair. He is what he is and can be frustrating at times, but I think that's more of a function of the difficulty of the material. Do what he says and you'll be fine. Finance can be confusing and time consuming; anyone who thinks they can coast in Dr. P's class is mistaken. With all that said, I'd take him again if I had the choice.
Prati taught this online course with Eakins. He tried to be helpful, but there was always the feeling that questions were a bother. The class is set up to be self-taught with the use of a program created by Eakins, which is riddled with errors. Prepare to be frustrated ALL SEMESETER LONG. Both professors were extremely unhelpful.
Do not order this book from Amazon. The professors do not tell you this until it's too late. Wait until the first day of class and order the book directly through the website (via a link through BB). Amazon doesn't even carry the book and don't waste time waiting on the bookstore to deliver.
DE FINA 6144. Prati teaches course for Eakins. Would not suggest taking this in summer; especially if you're new to finance. You wont have time to grasp concepts. Course is self taught and very frustrating. Often tested on material that is WAY harder than homework or book examples. Work ahead. Weekly quiz and homework. 4 Tests & excel projects.
Took online. 5 Tests, 1 proctored final, 3 excel projects, graded homework & quizzes for each chapter. This class is hard, frustrating, and stressful. Lots of work! Will avoid Prati in the future. Don't take during the summer. I worked ahead and always felt behind. Learn the calculator!
Learn the calculator. I spent the semester using excel because it was easier for me. I didn't start learning the calculator until I was studying for the final and I was shocked as to how easy it was to use. Wont be allowed to use excel on the final. So learn the calculator.
Dr. Prati means well and will try to assist his students, however, he is very long-winded in responses to questions. This causes confusion and deters students from asking questions. Also, there is no way to review incorrect answers on tests, quizzes and HW. Avoid taking him if you can.
BUYER BEWARE!! Avoid at all costs. Does not provide adequate help, you can not see mistakes from tests or quizzes so you don't know where to improve. He knows his stuff but does not know how to teach to undergrads. Textbook is sub par and does not offer good explanations. Tests/quizzes are more difficult than practice problems! AVOID THIS PROFESSOR
Required for MBA; took online. Had to teach myself the class. This was team taught between Prati and Eakins. Online textbook and finance lab through Pearson, both suckederrors. Only class I have ever done an all-nighter for but I got an A. Know calculator and write small on the cheat sheet. Unfortunately you won't use material in Finance 2!
Smart guy and knows what he is talking about, but he does not know how to be concise. Very tricky hw, quizzes, and exams. He teaches you to learn rather than memorize, which is good but hard. I would avoid taking him if you have little to no interest in finance. Otherwise he is a great professor for conditioning for harder classes in the future.
You self teach this class via the book. Some chapters are harder. Take advantage of extra attempts for quizhomework to build a strong base for your grade. Know the calculator. Centra sessions are 3-4 years old would like them to update it or at least do one as a final exam review. The final is comprehensive.
Online as part of MBA program taught by Prati & Eakins. Finance is a very tough, rigorous class so I advise taking this class by itself if you work full time. Multiple attempts at homework & quizzes is nice. Final is 30% of grade. You can do well in this class but you will have to work for it. I actually learned some things I can use in my job.
Avoid this class with this professor if possible! This class is completely self-taught with online access to textbook written by Dr. Eakins; there is no physical book. Test questions are on a different level than homework questions. This course is more about learning how to learn than actually learning finance. Final is cumulative!
Video "help" is several years old, E-book has errors and dated material. Homework and Quizzes contain material not covered in text. Tests are much harder than practice material. Post-Midterm review was essentially Dr. Prati being confused as to why we got "easy" problems wrong. This class is entirely self-taught. Professors are useless.
Very tough professor. Tests are hard and the math problems on the tests do not reflect the math on quizzes. He reads straight out of the textbook for lecture and does not explain how to do any of the math. The math is entirely self taught in my finance lab. Does not allow you to see missed answers on quizzes so you don't know how to improve grade.
Tough class. Online material through CFO and material from old PDF book written by Eakins from 10 years ago (for an intermediate finance). Professor is condescending in his responses on BlackBoard but very knowledgeable. Most questions for HW/Quiz/test are over 3-4 years old. Trying refreshing questions with current examples.
Get ready to work. It takes a week to understand the syllabus and get through the millions of posts on the discussion boards (which are mainly questions about the syllabus to begin with). Tons of homework, quizzes, and tests from two different textbooks, plus the midterm and final, and two projects. I certainly know the material, so good class!
lacked the professionalism to teach a class. Given, he was going through difficult circumstances, he frequently missed classes and when he did attend class, he frequently got sidetracked during the lecture. His method of teaching was constant repettition of the online quizzes and the practice HW which doesn't work for all. Awful with communication.
There are more than 50 graded components in the course. The professor requires that students use two textbooks on the same subject matter, each with their own set of HW assignments, quizzes, and tests. His logic is that two are better than one, and students should be thankful that he provides one for free. Why stop at 2? He comes across as lazy.
I've read the reviews of Dr. Prati. For me, he was awesome. I suck at math, so the fact I made a B was great for me. YES, this is a tough course. YES, you have to work (A LOT), but if you do the work and communicate with him, you should be fine. He even gave extra credit for helping him with his research.
SO DETAILED with schedule - to the point of being stressful and confusing. Makes it harder by over-complicating schedule. PDF and purchased books. PDF is most useful - lots of equation errors in purchased and glitchy when taking quizzes. Pretty much teaching yourself but once you get a rhythm, not bad. 2 excel projects that are straightforward.
Worst course in MBA program thus far. Fantastic and highly useful material but entirely self-taught with two "books" - online and fraught with errors, and dated PDF. Most material reused for years. Smart guy but wants to be sure you know how very important he is. Condescending to students, frustrating, exams don't correlate well with homework.
I have read the reviews on Dr. P and yes there are parts of the class that are very confusing along with a CFO portion that is very buggy but I have learned so much in this class. The mid-term and final are very tough but he do open the door for extra credit and overall class grades. I do think he cares about his students learning the material.
The good: Lectures were helpful though many years old, PDF book was old but clear and interesting; I found this class interesting The bad: Beta tests online books that are TERRIBLE and tech support is no help, you end up with a double workload and Prati comes across as condescending in many interactions/announcements/memos
Never ever will I take a finance course online. I am usually good at online classes but Prati's formatting was way too hard to understand. You teach yourself everything on your own. Tests are insanely hard and he knows that. This is an undergraduate course and he treated us like Graduate students. I hated this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
By far the worst professor Ive ever had and ive only been in his class three weeks Its not that his class is hard it is but he cant teach Lectures are ALL over the place he give popquizes nearly every day and he expects you to remember every minute detail about his class Ive never had to write anything bout any professor but i despise him that much
I have never rated a professor but I just wanted to warn others to never take his class. My friends have taken this course with other professors and have done just fine. Take anybody but him!!!!!
Dropping out of this class after two weeks. The lectures are pointless, where he lectures three different classes at the same time. The course is extremely unorganized, and currently, I have a test on Friday and another one the immediate Tuesday after. Extremely unorganized. With other better Finance professors, don't take this guy.
Very hard intensive class. He is a great teacher and is always willing to explain things and try to get you to grasp the concept. Very helpful. Very accessible. Overall a great teacher who does his best to teach a very difficult subject.
I have never left a poor rating for any of my teachers. Prati is NOT a good representation of ECU. He had sent multiple insane emails threatening the class for doing well on midterms and accusing everyone of cheating instead of saying good job. He gives no grace on exams, even if your sick. His lectures Make no sense. Pick someone else!!
Prati puts a lot of efforts into making this course as difficult as he can. If you ask questions, he is condescending and claims to have already answered them. He barely responds to emails & made us take the final without even knowing what our current grade was. He even changed the syllabus 1/2 thru the semester to make the final weigh more! Run!!!
FINA3824 was absolutely TERRIBLE. Prati doesn't teach or provide notes/powerpoint in class. Only major exams are the midterm and final which he doesn't review for so it's a mystery as to what's on it. I heavily relied on YouTube videos and the textbook to teach myself the material. Regularly assigned hw and quizzes via McGraw Hill. Class is useless
Never rated a professor before, but do NOT take Prati. His material is useless and over 55% of the final grade comes from 2 assignments. He will respond to questions but not in a way that helps at all. Take someone else.
Hands down the worst professor ever. His lectures are one hour plus and scatter brained. He provides useless examples and expects you to put all of your time into this class. DO NOT take this professor if you care about your gpa at all.
Teaches his content can be difficult but he tells good stories that really help. It is overwhelming but he really cares about his students. When he grades the test, he is very understand and flexible when it comes to the curve. I thought I was going to fail every exam but got a B- or higher. Only 2 exams, connect work, super easy!
This professor was the most horrendous professor that I have ever had. He was sexist when I asked for help and refused to give me any advice on how to pass his tests. Every single test in the class averaged was always below passing. The average for one test was a 60% to which he said was "great."
Dr. Prati is extremely knowledgeable in financial topics. He uses real life examples so the class is interesting. One of the few classes at ECU that I feel like I could apply to life after graduation. It is a difficult class but as long as you go to the lectures it should make sense.
Had Dr. P a few years ago, and went to look him up. SO SAD to hear he retired!! And already, he was only in his early 50s, I think, but hey, he clearly practiced what he taught. BEST PROF ever, and that includes my recently completed MBA. Hope to be able to retire as young as he did! ECU has lost one of its VERY best. Cheers & Congrats Dr. P!!
