Take notes in class his tests are identicle to what he lectures on i feel sorry i bought the book. The info is interesting also(if you are into science.
Dr. Ranaldi is a professor that you need to get an acquired taste for. The work seems a lot at first but then you get used to it. The work is intense but he is such a great professor who has a passion for his subject and it motivates one to study.
The course is not easy, but he explains the material clearly. He give 2 quizes before the midterm and the final that helps prepare you for them. Don't miss classes and read the text.
He is very nice but he goes through the material like a tornado (Cognitive Overload). However, he give 4 quizes, 1 midterm and a final. Quizes are very easy (here is where u earn your point), midterm and final is a ball buster. Overall, good professor.
good professor, but the material and work load it too much. tests are difficult and getting a "B" is an excellent grade in his classes.
Lectures and Tests are identical. He breaks down the tests, there are 4 tests and 1 final which is not cummulative. Its much easier to learn all the info with so many tests. And i didnt have to buy a text book, he puts important text online.
He is a good teacher, but goes very fast and his tests are very hard. Bring a multi-colored pen, it will help you copy the diagrams from the board with more clarity.
WAY TOO HARD! He speaks way too fast, goes through the material like lightning without caring the whole class is left behind. The only class I ever dropped. Don't take him! no reason to torcher yourself.
he has these ridiculous quizzes in which we have to memorize way too much information, wherefrom he chooses one topic for us to write a little essay on. it's virtually impossible.tests are easier.lots of notes.bleh.
Wow, tears through sh** so fast its unbelievable! Really nice guy but not a fantastic teacher, feel bad saying it but... Don't do it - Don't do it , you will be sorry.
a very hard professor i wouldnt take him ... he knows a lot about his subject but doesnt really know how to teach it. he taught a grad class along with ours. it was a nightmare. don't take him he goes wayyy tooo fast u need a tape recorder or u wont do well.
His lectures are very clear and very understandable. The course is a neuroscience course so it's obviously going to be tougher than reg psych classes. Quizzes and tests extremely straightfoward, either you know or you don't. Go to lecture, take good notes AND read the book and you should do fine.
Don't do it people...just don't do it. This man is to a GPA what Kryptonite is to Superman. My goodness, don't do it. Have a nice day!
The man is not all there. He tends to be incoherent at times and he makes a lot of mistakes. If you are studying for the docs, dont use his notes. He also has no scientific bearing in his methodology and his approach to science.
I learned a great deal from this guy. He's nice and he always elaborate on his points. I recommend him.
Dr. Ranaldi is a good teacher and explain stuff in a very systematic way. He is very lenient when it comes to grading. I learned from him. Highly recommended
Well this was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He goes really fast and unless you have previous nuerological exp you will be lost from minute 1. His tests and quizes are really hard and there were grad students in the same class as we were. DONT DO IT!!!!!!
Ugh, boring, boring, boring. His tests are not THAT bad, but they arent good either. His notes are terrible, and the book isnt of that much help. Going to class is almost a waste of time...
very very good professor, gives really easy exams. Explains everything very clearly and never gives hard time. Always take this professor for Psy 348. You will surely pass the class. I guarantee it.
I don't know about his neuropsych class, but as far as his history of psych class, he's a great professor. Just go to class, take GOOD notes and memorize the notes. Don't bother buying the textbook. I studied completely from my notes and got an A+. He's not a bad professor at all. He's straightforward and lets you know exactly what he wants.
I have taken 3 classes with him, 243, history of psych and special topics in neuropsych and memory. The prof. is amazing... there are those few not so "studious" students in class that always complain but if more than 2/3 got excellent grades, in A range that should tell you something. He is sooo clear yet previous bio knowledge is preferred.

LOTS of notes, meaning the tests are on a ton of information and details. If you are not good at memorizing, this class is not for you. Doesn't take attendance. You don't need the book if you go to class and take good notes.
Very hard. Too much material to coer in a semester. Hard grader...does not curve or let you do extra credit projects. Has no feelings for someone who tries yet struggles in his class. Can't talk to him...he doesn't seem to care about what ever it is that you are going through.
Go to class and take good notes. Forget about the book . I bought it and never used it. You must write very Very Very quickly he will give you about 10 pages back and forth of notes in a 3 hour class NO BREAKS! No Kidding. Test are easy if you study your notes.
Even though, the class is 3 hrs straight w/no breaks in between. There is no reason for anyone to get lower than a C.I got an A just by studying from the class notes.Just be warned that this is a LONG 3 HR CLASS and he really doesn't curve on exams or give extra credit.Your grade for the class is only based on the 3 multiple choices exams.
GOOD PROFESSOR! TAKE HIM. FOR ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ARE SAYING BAD COMMENTS ABOUT THEM. THEY ARE WRONG! THEY PROBABLY DIDNT EVEN GO TO CLASS TO SAY SUCH THINGS. IM CURRENTLY TAKING HIS CLASS. GREAT PROFESSOR!
A 3 credit class with the work of a 5 credit class. Does not post the slides online so you have try to copy everything down while trying to listen to the lecture and understand the concepts. Always rushing off to somewhere once class is done. Is a bit sarcastic/funny but it wont help your grade at all. A teacher to avoid taking.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!! You will have arthritis before you leave class. u will take 10 pgs of notes BACK&FRONT. there is WAAAAY 2 much info to study for a test. 3 hours of pain and torture. Plus he is very cold and not at all understanding. No help for u if u r struggling. DONT DO IT
too many notes given way too fast, but the bright side is that's all you need to memorize for the test. no hwk.
3tests=grade. 50 multiple choice. doesnt take attendance after the first few wks - goes over powerpoints in lecture that he puts on blackboard first day of semester. goes very quickly&seems like he doesnt really care about students. read the textbook and you'll do fine.
He posts all the class notes on blackboard and explains them in the lecture. You need to remember a lot of information for the exams but really isn't his fault cause it's required.. so overall he is a pretty good professor
Went hard with the slides... 14 chapters of slides used in class. book was occasionally needed.
He does not care about his students and says that tests where the mean score is above 70 is too easy! Avoid him if you can!!
Horrible professor! reads straight out of the slides which are an exact copy of the book. No extra information is taught in this class. Grades are not curved even though the average is low. Overall, do not recommend this class if you are interested in extra information.
Very strict and you dont really have to show up since the slides are on blackboard and word for word on the tests. Use textbooks for practice. Study weeks in advance if you want at least a solid A.
started with about 40 students in his class ended with 15. enough said.
He is a good teacher. He explains his concepts well and it would probably have been a very interesting class if people participated more. It's a difficult subject and if you don't pay attention, you won't do well, but that isn't the professor's fault. He explains tings until he feels you understand them and always asks if there are any questions.
PSYCH 101 is a lot of material, irrelevant of the professor you choose. Ranaldi puts slides on blackboard, and exam questions are directly from them. You will never open the textbook and you don't need to come to class (he just reads his slides). Grade is the average of three exams. Memorize the slides.
This professor was easy for me because I read the textbook. His tests were very easy.
WIth one word say's it all "BEWARE". He's very fast at giving his lecture. Never makes the attempt to help the students outside from class. 3 exams= your grade, doesn't give extra credits at all. Not an easy grader.
Had him during winter session. He gave the slides on BB and on most days we had a 10 min break. He does go through lectures fast. I recorded every lecture and believe that is the key to doing well. Two MC tests, curved. I would be cautious to take him during a regular semester since he said he was unsure about posting the slides on BB in the future
prof ranaldi is very laid back and you do not have to show up to his lectures. his lectures are exactly from the slides and you can teach it to yourself without any confusion. i definitely recommend taking his class.
Read the material before coming to class, makes a lot of sense when you are learning how the brain works and how it stores memory.
Great class, nice guy, whole course consists of 3 multiple choice tests, straight from lectures slides, study that and you'll be good to go
Good professor, 98% of the questions are straight from the slides and 2% from the book. His lectures are clear and he does curve, so I would take this professor again.
This class was extremely enjoyable and stimulating! Don't take this class if you are not willing to apply yourself- he is extremely knowledgeable about behavioral neuroscience. Gives amazing lectures!!! Looking forward to taking more classes with this professor. Highly recommended!
He is a pretty solid professor. Straightforward. Failed the first test and did amazing on the last 2 tests because I learned the hardway that this class is a "study by yourself" thing. Read the book and slides and you should be good.
This professor does not care about his students at all. He basically laughed at our entire class who failed his first test and said oh well. He puts has 3 tests which have 4-6 chapters on each way to much material. he basically expects you to have life, work or do anything else but study for his class. He was so rude + condescending. STAY AWAY!
not too bad. I liked him
Hes a good professor. His lectures are really heavy and boring but what lectures arent? The students were really rude to him in almost every class. His first exam was difficult but once you actually study the slides you will realize his tests are very straight forward. Hes a good teacher and very intelligent.
Great professor! Enjoyed his lectures.
Highly advise to not take this class with this professor. There are better courses to take than this one. Learn history on your own time. Trust.
I am currently taking this class and it is too difficult. 6 chapter for each exam and class average is low. He doesn't even provide a review sheet organizing topics on what to study. Too many questions with difficult Wording. Not empathetic as a teacher. Fell asleep during lectures at times. Don't take , Very mean
We were given three exams. Nearly every single person in the class failed the first exam. There is no opportunity for extra credit, no quizzes, no papers, no participation points, and he flat out said he wasn't going to curve. Even if you do well on the last two exams, you will not get an A if you do poorly on the first.
I am currently taking him for an intro to psych class. I regret taking a class with him every day. The questions on the exam are easy but there are 80 questions. 4 chapters per test 60 slides per chapter. Goes into way too much detail that even my friend who has a neuroscience degree couldn't believe how much detail he went into for one chapter.
Professor Ranaldi is a very good professor, but his classes are very lecture-heavy. He is very knowledgeable and he doesn't read off the slides like other professors, most of the time he talks for the whole class but he will ask if you understand sometimes. His slides are online and it's easy to study for the test which is 95% slides.
If you hear of a easier professor for pysch101 take them. We are only graded by 3 test which are MC and each test is like over 80 questions, in which you have to know a lot of info. But the good thing his test are based on the slides he post. Even tho I got a good grade im not satisfied by the class. Gotta do lots of studying, but thats college man
Knowledgeable professor with indifferent attitude towards teaching. Lectures are sometimes interesting, but mostly boring. There is also almost no interaction with the professor. Tests are easy and 99% based on slides. Great class to take in summer and get your A for a 4-credit-class. Good luck!
Come on this is college level. Expect to read and memorize things. Exams are multiple choice and mainly powerpoint based. His powerpoint slides are clear and easy to understand. No homework or pop quizzes. Just need to do a two credits research assignment, which is easy to complete.
Took Psychology 101 with him over the summer. His powerpoints cover a majority of the exam. I did not use the textbook once and did well. Very straight forward. Lectures are boring and he has a tendency to overcomplicate simple ideas. Study the powerpoint and you will be good for the exams.
The reviews left by other students are accurate. The class grades were determined by 3 exams (75%), 3 pop quizzes (9%), and participation (16%). Each exam has 80-90 questions. Pop quizzes had 15. Around 95% of the material is from the lecture powerpoints. I did not read the textbook. The questions are all straightforward. This is a easy class.
The professor that undergraduates students get out of him is different than having him for graduate school. I had him 700 level psychology of history and he would pick at and make fun of certain students on how they would phrase a sentence to a question. He also give you 3 exams to equal out your WHOLE GRADE. He's very cut throat and doesnt care.
This professor does not have any quizzes, papers (You know like most history classes), participation or attendance as part of the grade. It's just 3 exams. Exams are fine but at least let it be 4. He doesnt really give you an opportunity to do well in my opinion.
UNDERGRADS GOT IT EASY. 3 EXAMS ARE NOT ENOUGH TO DETERMINE A STUDENTS GRADE FOR A WHOLE SEMESTER.
This is asynchronous with meetings once a week. There are 3 exams and are extremely easy as long as you watch his prerecording of the class lectures. as long was you read the slides and watch the videos you will pass. He definitely knows what he's talking about so do ask questions about things you don't understand from the recordings.
This prof was honestly so amazing. His class was asynchronous and you just need to watch the recorded lectures. The class only has three exams and all the material is from the lectures. He holds non-mandatory meetings once a week for questions. He is super helpful and wants you to do well. Definitely take him if you can!
Prof. Ranaldi has been by far the least enjoyable professor I have encountered at QC in the psychology department. He was rude to myself and some other students on the first day, which put us to a rough start. Your grade is based on three exams only- which can be tricky if you do bad on one. No extra credit given at all.
It was a pretty easy class. PROF gives 3 tests and thats what your whole grade consists of so it is some pressure but the test are easy as long as you study. Its all multiple choice and pretty much all vocabulary. You meet 1-2 times a week for a half n hour to discuss the pre recorded lectures and he answers any questions you have Which is good.
This class is easy to receive an A as long as you read the textbook and watch the lectures. The only thing is I feel like he doesn't really connect with students as much. You'll meet up only for 30 minutes once or twice a week to ask any question you want, after that you're on your own. This is a class in which you have to teach your self.
The professor knows the material and the class topic is super interesting. However the class structure is Horrible. ITS ONLY 3 EXAMS. that might sound nice but the tests are heavy based on around 6 chapters. You do bad on one test and ur done. This type of class shouldnt only be test based. The professor should at least provide more assignments.
Lost interest on the first day. 3 exams the whole semester, 4 lectures on each exam, which is too much material to study. Doesn't seem like he cares about his students. Only graded on the exams which is a lot of pressure and very annoying to put in that work when you are not a psych major and only taking this for a requirement. Don't recommend.
3 exams the whole semester, 4 lectures on each exam, which is too much material to study. Doesn't seem like he cares about his students !!!! Only graded on the exams which is a lot of pressure and very annoying. TOOOO much to study. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Professor Ranaldi only grades you on 3 exams and does not offer extra credit. He does not explain things well or teaches well. I do not recommend this professor. If you are thinking about psych 101 choose a different professor don't do it to yourself
After taking AP psych in high school, but not getting enough on the exam to place out, I found this class to be easier than the AP class. That being said, it definitely was a lecture heavy class and he based the grade only on 3 tests. If you really would like to learn and do well, you gotta put in the time and effort to read the slides and the text
professor ranaldi is super hard, especially the fact we only have 3 exams, and it's way too much to study and memorize, given no extra assignments or anything else to boost our grade. if you can study heavy lectures go for it, but I'm not a fan. he does not care and will not give you extra credit !!
Not bad. But there are definitely far better Professors than him. His tests are pretty hard and usually don't fully cover taught material and are like 90 questions long. Take him. He's really not that bad of a professor.
There's only 3 grades: the tests. There's 3 of them n they're easy but they cover alotta info so to get an A or A+, u have to really pay attention in class n take notes on all the slides and then do the same thing with the text book, which is overpriced n hard to get a copy of online that has the whole textbook + practice questions. Textbooks pricy
Honestly, he's an okay professor except for the fact he grades harshly with no exception of extra credit. He grades you on three exams and his study classes were not beneficial whatsoever, all you could do is ask questions and he would criticize if you didn't know the answer, basically is a teach yourself class. I do not recommend his class at all.
Overall, Ranaldi is an okay professor. Everything is based on 3 exams so you have to do good on those. His exams are topics covered in his PowerPoints and the textbook. He basically just reads off the presentation in class. I didn't attend his class often cause I found that I could just teach myself and I'd say I did a pretty good job. No homework.
Took this class online over the summer. Had classes but attendance was not mandatory. Tests were all online so they were easy to do at home. Easy A over the summer.
He was a great professor. Very straightforward and as long as you study and pay attention you will do well. It is a lot of studying but the information is very clear. He is a very kind man and you can see his passion for the subject in the way that he teaches.
The tests are really heavy with more than average questions asks, but he provide a study guide to help you. The lecture is powerpoint slides and you have to take good notes. Overall he is a good professor, just get ready to study hard for exams.
Professor Ranaldi made his class very interesting. He shows PowerPoint slides and explains it all in detail. He cracks jokes pretty often so it always keeps you entertained. All of his exams are based on his presentation. If you carefully review the study guide that he provides, you'll do very well.
Professor Ranaldi's class was great. He treats his students like adults. Doesn't baby anyone and keeps it real. His lectures are very informative. Attendance isn't mandatory but all the info you'll need for exams will be from the lectures. He gave the class a few extra points on every exam. No papers. 3 exams only.
Professor Ranaldi deserved a higher rating. As a freshman in her first semester, this class was mindblowing. Best professor at Queens College. Tests are long and heavy, but he provides a review sheet; just study from it, and you will easily get an A. There are only 3 exams.
He's a cool professor although, you have to take notes on everything and attend class, he doesn't post slides online, I suggest making a group chat. No homework just 3 exams with 80 questions. Don't forget to get credits for sona, you need them to pass the class. He's not very interested in what you have going on so he won't be accommodating.
His 6 assignments are easy, even with minimal knowledge of the textbook. The exams are most of your grade and it is some true or false, matching and recollection questions. If you love history, this should be an easy class.
Did not upload the slides, would then rush through slides and judge students who asked to go back. Bragged about "understanding the psychology of learning" however everything he did was against students. do not take unless you want your gpa to drop. I don't know how this professor is allowed to teach. maybe tried something new with my class idk.
One of my fav professors!! You only take three exams, which usually have around 80-90 questions, veryyyyy long lectures, but he makes it interesting.
