Most boring lectures ever and he doesn't prepare you at all for the hard exams.
I hate math. i have failed it three times. After taking Mr. Reed's class i have a way better understanding of math. His process of breaking down each problem makes it easy. He uses different colors on the board to show each step. He's funny and nice making a three hour class go by easily. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to pass math :)
he's a great teacher. not an easy class. u do have to study to get a good grade in the class. no textbook needed. he's always willing to help u. attendance is mandatory or else he will drop u. if u study from his study quides and quizes u will pass. after studying for his 3 midterms + 1 final and quizzes and a lot of homework. i passes with an A
This is my second section with mr.reed. He's an excellent teacher. Attendance is mandatory, there is a sign in sheet he passes around each class lecture.miss more than 2 lectures you're dropped. Quizzes almost every week and 3 major tests. Do the my math lab you'll do great. I highly recommend him!
Let me start by saying that I am not great at math, and I have to work very hard to get a decent grade. This class is not easy, and it is made even more difficult by his teaching style. I agree that his use of different colored markers helps, but he doesn't teach from the book and he makes up some of the problems as he goes along.
He gets himself stuck on problems and can not work back to find out where the mistake is. he doesn't grade fair, he says no calculators and there are people using them. he goes off topic and laughs at himself when he says stupid things that have nothing to do with what we are covering in class.
the way he teaches is hard to understand. He gave a hard test that a lot student got F. A lot of homework every week. He used to make many mistakes while he is teaching. No recommended
He gave a hard test that many students couldn't do it. A lot of students feed disappointed and fail. He makes many mistakes while he is teaching. Take it unless you are really good at math. No recommended.
His lectures consist of him wasting time over what has nothing to do with what you're learning. Homework-outrageous. Made so your work can go to waste with uncertainty of the material. Tests are unpredictable, makes us memorize useless concepts, and is unclear on what you should focus on-bad test score-guaranteed. You don't feel good learning here.
He is a horrible teacher with no heart. He denied help from his students and makes several mathmatical mistakes. His grading is very harsh and does not offer extra credit for those who are grieving. Very cold-hearted.
Good teacher, hated math prior. Explained concepts well and now I have a genuine interest in math.
He gives way too much homework and he's really strict
His teaching style is horrendous. He starts a problem and either does not know how to finish it, or does not know how to explain it well. He gives a lot of homework, and going to office hours is futile. He neither offers extra credit, nor a small curve to help students. The failing rate was more than 80%. Thus, he is not recommended at all.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Its only halfway through the semester and I feel Mr. Reed is a very good teacher, he is very clear when he explains problems. He is also always willing to help when I visit him in his office hours. I definitely recommend taking him.
Do not even bother with this teacher, he is tough, unorganized, and cold-hearted. Avoid at all costs. #GG
Math is comprised of complicated concepts that have plagued humanity since the dawn of time. Many people won't survive it. Mr. Reed teaches a tough class and teaches it well. His class taught me a lot. He is hard and there is much homework, however I feel I have gained a good understanding through his teaching. He is kind of dorky but it is all fun
One of the best math teachers I have had in my life. Yes there is a good amount of homework and the tests are moderately challenging, but isn't that the point of taking a math class? He is there for you if you need help, explains the lessons well, has a sense of humor, and is helpful overall. I want to take him for the next math class i take.
Mr. Reed is a great professor. The class is not easy but it shouldn't be, if you do the work and study you can pass. Very good teaching style, easy to understand - no problem to ask questions if you are confused and get a good answers. I would definitely take a class with him again!
Seems to be trying but doesn't really explain much. It seems like he expects his students to know the subject, he's just there to review it. He is an average teacher, quizzes are easy and if you are good at math you can pass with an A.
This teacher is one of the worst teachers at mission. He is extremely unorganized and doesn't know how to teach. cant even solo q mid class. in all honesty do not take him. there are other options and im being srs. garbage teacher
AWESOME teacher!! i had him for math 903 would have taken him for math c if he was teaching it the semester i was taking it. YOU MUST SHOW UP TO CLASS AND COMPLETE ALL HOMEWORK. his examples in class are great and he is VERY CLEAR AND VERY ORGANIZED. im taking lavallo this semester and would much prefer to have mr reed as my teacher.
There are quizzes almost every week, and he is EXTREMELY nit-picky about your answers. However, he does devote a lot of his time to help you when you need it, all you have to do is ask.
Awesome instructor. He has you a lot of homework and quizzes are every week. He does give exam practice for every test. He is kinda unorganized, however he helps you the best as he can. He is fair and square. Getting an A is not easy unless you put all of your effort.
A great instructor for those students who are looking to just review the subject than learn it. However if you are indeed learning the subject for the first time, it will require a great amount of outside class commitment to understanding the subject.
Mr. Reed has a passion for math that reflects when he is teaching his class. He is very fair and clear with his rules and regulations. He is pretty funny in class and really down to earth For my class, we used MyMathLab for the HW (personally not used to it or a big fan of it but its ok). I would most likely take another math class with him!
This is a 5 unit course with the class Running 2.5 hours twice a week. For what he actually spent time teaching in class, the class could be 45 mins, twice a week. Most of the class is him spent wasting time talking about nothing. For example he spent a better half of the class talking about his nose bleeds, and the smell of white board markers.
Professor Reed is a very good teacher. He makes sure you understand all the materials by showing multiple examples. I like how he goes by the point system, so you don't get screwed over by doing badly on just a test. He gives out practice exams which are very similar to his actual exams, so make sure to study those!
Took his class with a few friends. They enjoyed and understood his lectures but I felt as if he was too fast paced. Other than that he is a good teacher, knows what he is doing. Approachable, likes to crack jokes during class, but his tests are 6-8 pages. Also attendance is mandatory, he makes tests 6-8 pgs! Take him if you like math.
He is one of the best math teachers I have had. There are quizzes and tons of homework amost every week, and his tests are always very long (more than 20 math problems). Getting an A is not easy, but after studying hard, you will love Math and want to take his classes again.
I am taking a 3-in-1 course that includes alg 2, percal, and trig, 3 hours lecture, twice a week. Honestly, he made me love Math. The way he teaches is so clear and interesting. He make sure every little detail is taught and understood. The Math jokes he says in class are hella ugly but I love them. Best Math teacher I have had. I love him.
Amazing teacher! Really helped me understand the Alg 2 concepts I didn't get earlier. I actually understood why things were done they way they were- not just how to do them. Makes you graph by hand a lot, but really helps in the long run. I felt prepared for Calc afterwards. Lots of (helpful) interaction and group quizzes. Practice tests are useful
He expects you to remember each and every math concept that you have learnt before. Starts explaining one theorem and gets confused in the middle. His tests are tough and he is very specific with what steps he needs in the answer. Dont take him unless you are brilliant at math or you like math. Gives a lot of homework too
he is the worse teacher I have ever seen, especially in this class. He is tough and has no heart. He is not caring about the students. I never ever recommended to anybody.
I think he's better off teaching lower math classes. His calculus class is tough and disorganized. His test are hard that it's impossible for anyone to get an A. It's good to take Reed for Algebra class but not for Calculus.
One of the best math professors Ive had so far. He does a really good job explaining precalculus and his practice exams for the class are very similar to his actual tests so make sure you complete every problem, and ask him for help when you dont understand something. If you put time & effort into the practice test, youre solid for that A!
I took Professor Reed for Math2, this class was very challenging but if you put in the effort you could get an A. His lectures were very fast but he gave very good examples and made sure everyone understood the concepts before moving on. He gives 7 Quizzes, 4 tests including the final, and a bunch of homework on MyMathLab. He gives practice tests that are very similar to the actual test. He tries to prepare you as much as possible. Overall, he was a good teacher.
If you have never taken statistics and math isn't your best subject, I don't recommend taking this class. His quizzes are only 5-6 questions. 2 midterms and 1 Final. You get 1 notecard for the midterm. His lectures are powerpoints and you have to print them out each chapter.
Worst professor:))
Our math class was really long but he gave good lectures and I understood the material very well. I will definetely take a class with this professor again.
If you are strong in math take him, but the pace of the course is very fast. His teaching style consists of lots of writing on the whiteboard, doing proofs in class, and understanding where a formula comes from (not how to use it). If you are a student who needs step by step instruction he is not the professor you want to take.
a lot of work but if you try the A is urs. hes great and made me enjoy math for the first time in forever.
He had a cool personality but didn't seem to have the patience. He tends to indulge in the younger crowd who's straight out of high school so if you're just taking the course to get it done for a requirement or whatever don't bother. Group work is a thing and you cant take your weekly quiz if homework isn't submitted.
His lectures are good, but his exams are super hard. Do not take this class if you struggle in math like. Pick an easier professor. For those who only have this professor as your last resort, I wish you the best of luck. Make sure you allot a lot of time to study! He is not the type to go step-by-step and expects you to DERIVE! Good luck.
He is a really hard teacher if you hate math. Most people in my class are failing his class. He is very fast paced and very awkward. he tries to joke, but he's the only one that laughs while the class is silent. Tests are hard and if you dont have the MyMathLab program, you'll fail. You'll have to work extra hard if you want to pass. Dont recommend
I think hes my Richard Montgomery(?) if you know what I mean :)The class wont be easy for those have rather weak skills in basic math concepts. You will have to pick up what you have learnt before and dig more. It was interesting and amazing to realize how much Ive picked up after almost 10 years out of school. To the whining bunch: grammar.
All math classes require daily attendance and practice - if you skip class, or don't do the work and study, you won't pass. Duh! He makes himself available for help if you need it. Good teacher.
Mr Reed is very knowledgeable about calculus, and could solve and explain any problem I brought to him. He is patient and sympathetic, but he expects a very high level of understanding from every student in his class. Most students dropped and by the final only about 8 of us left. The tests were long and difficult. Be prepared to do lots of hw.
Long story short, if your major requires lots of Math courses; if youd like to succeed in Calculus; if you want to have a solid background in Calculus, TAKE Prof. Reed. The workload is heavy, but you will have a strong background! Thanks to his Math3A course, Im able to survive Math at my University. I am always grateful for being his student.
Mr. Reed was the coolest most quirky teacher and I loved his class. At first sight, I was worried Id have an issue following along, but his notes cover everything, so its important not to miss class. Hes very willing to clarify if you just ask. His exams and quizzes are predictable if you practice the extra work he provides.
Professor Reed is an outstanding teacher, at the beginning of the semester I dreaded even starting mathematics because I hated how bad my concept was of even understanding equations. This teacher is phenomenal, Ive grown to love math deeply and I love his classes every week, he is always available if you need help or an extra session.
Everything is clear you know all you will do from the first day such as HWs due dates and tests and thats all you need to worry about so you can study with no anxiety
I'm kind of disappointed in these comments on here, as a math student i know i have to work hard and study hard to get a decent grade. He provided a lot of homework but its so beneficial. He's always there if you need him and he's extremely kind and patient. This is my second semester with Mr Reed, he's an outstanding professor and super smart.
If you struggle with math, he's the professor you want to take. He was awesome and super funny at times. But he also is really professional and wants you to work for your grade so that in the exams you really understand the material. He's a great teacher.
Lectures are EXTREMELY boring and long for no reason, goes over unimportant stuff, solves excessively to the point where it doesnt matter. Tests are your entire grade.
While he explains concepts very well (fun lectures, good jokes) and I understand them, his class grade is too heavily weighted on exams. Which would be fine, but his homework questions were not similar to the exams. Out of all the exams we had, no one got the full mark save for one exam in the middle. His lectures are enjoyable and fun tho
Although statistics can be challenging in itself it was taught thoroughly and to a good level of understanding. This was my 5th class with professor Reed. It's one of the easier classes he teaches at Mission. But don't be fooled, studying is a must. I taught a lot of students outside of class during group sessions, if you study you'll get an A.
Hes definitely one of the better professors Ive seen at mission. A tough grader but just pay really close attention to his lectures and do the homework properly and dont skip class. You should have no problem. Hes one of those professors that actually helps you visualize what youre learning and makes it easier for you to understand the concept
Robert is a cool dude and goes above and beyond his call of duty as a teacher. If you want to pass these math classes you have to work hard and pay attention, nothing will be given to you by any of these professors as they aren't preparing you for a career in gender studies or male feminism. Robert incorporates logic which is very beneficial.
One of my all time favorite professors. I had him for 2 courses and I highly recommend him. I used to like math in middle school, but grew to dislike it after some bad teachers. He reminded me how fun and easy math can be.
very caring and helpful professor.
Math is a tough subject but Prof Reed's lectures make it easy to understand. He speaks and writes clearly and will go over material again if you need. He is often available outside of class and will gladly answer any questions you have. He often tells funny math jokes in class. There is a lot of hw, but it helps you well in learning the material.
His grading was very tough, and he can minus lots of score base on small mistakes. He also gives a lot of homeworks, but it does not even enough to get my grade up by 1%. Most of the homework is not related to the test either. He also take-home exams which is super hard, and he had to fix his question many times. I RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT TAKE HIM
Prof. Reed is very passionate about math, and it's his goal to ensure that all his students understand. He assigns very challenging, but rewarding questions. He puts in a lot of time to teach us and prepare amazing lecture notes. I learned so much from him, and I loved this class so much! Make sure you manage your time with the assignments though.
My favorite math teacher ever. Gives lots of practice problems, creates hours of tutorial time to allow ample time to ask any questions that are needed to be asked, lectures are really engaging, and he was a great speaker, allowing me to grasp all the knowledge that I needed to in all of my courses that I have taken from him.
He is definitely the best teacher I've ever met. His teaching method is very clear and helpful. He extremely cares about his students even after I finished his class. Taking this nice professor class would never disappoint you. All you need to do is focussing on the lectures, doing the homework he gave (which is not too much) and you will be fine.
he is an amazing person. fun lectures. tough grader but gives you a chance to make up if done badly. he is very understanding. do recommend him. do his take home and pay attention in class
Professor Reed is an excellent teacher who is always open to questions and available during office hours. However, the material is challenging, and you must take notes to pass. There are three exams and a final, and that makes up 70% of your grade. Homework makes up 12%, but it is essential to pass.
Great teacher that took the time to care for your grade and for other students
Do the practice test and understand it super well. Start it 3-4 weeks in advance because it's really long, if you do that you won't have any issues on the test. 3 mid-terms, 1 final. If the whole class bombs a mid-term he's lenient with grades. The final also drops lowest mid-term. He's hard, but if I can do it so can you :)
Mr. Reed is very nice man. Calculus is super hard though, so start everything early, attend classes every time, and ask him for help. This semester he had a Tutor with him and she was very helpful (Ms. Naira). Canvas was very organized, he had homework due before class starts which was rough. free textbook and free access to microsoft notes aswell
Your lowest exam score is replaced by the final so it's worth a very high percentage of your grade (3 exams, 1 final during the summer). The textbook, class notes, and homework are all online for free. His lectures usually end early so you can leave, but he always stays till the end to provide help. Make sure to take advantage of his help!
Do not take this professor, he does not know how to teach. He constantly messes up during example problems in class. He seems like he genuinely has a passion for teaching, but simply doesn't do the greatest job at it.
This professor is CONSTANTLY messing up during lectures. Students are repeatedly fixing his mistakes.
This professor does not know what he's doing yet he expects so much from the class, like being in class exactly when it starts, if you're not, then he'll deduct points or even drop u from the class. Weird thing to do for college students….. anyways, don't take him. Choose anyone else
Lectures make it really easy to understand each concept. You get to use one side of a paper as a cheat sheet for each exam. Homework is due almost every week. This was my first stats class and he made it very easy to learn!
I took Multivariable Calc, and it was the hardest math classes ever, considering that I am a math enthusiast. However, Mr. Reed is a really good professor, explains everything clearly, provides help, and also gives A LOT of real-life examples, making lectures interesting to listen. I really enjoyed the class bc of the inspiration the prof radiated.
good. no, great
Does not explain topics clearly. I had to rely on just reading the book in order to understand concepts. His explanations and his lecture notes did not do anything for me. Would never take him again.
Gives lots of time during class to work on assignments. He applies a lot of concepts to real life for a better understanding of topics. Lectures are very heavy tho
I took Prof. Reed's class over the summer. It was a very fast course, consisting of a lot of homework and studying. His lectures were very clear and very helping in understanding the material. I struggle with math but he helped to make it easier. I would definitely take his class again. His class is perfect if you really want to understand material
He prints out each chapter for you so I highly recommend you going to the lectures bc he doesn't post it on canvas+he will literally answer any and every question you have which is amazing. You will have 4 take-home exams and 4 IRL ones but you are able to have a cheat sheet on a 8.5”x11” sheet of paper on each exam. 10/10 teacher love his class :)
I took him for calc2, plan on taking him again for calc3. He gives practice exams that are really similar to the actual ones, so study using those and do all the homework (!!) and you will be perfectly fine. You can have one page of notes on each test. He also holds review sessions before all the exams. Overall really recommend, he's a great prof!
