Rhoden is hella tight...I enjoy his class, I think that it's the fact that he's young which makes me like his class...I like the fact that he has a sense of humor, he's very helpful and lets us know when there's an opportunity on extra essay help outside of class time...RHODEN KICKS ASS!!!

Teaching style is very flexible, he knew that most students don't do their work until the night before. He grades fairly, I passed the class. I would recommend him to other students, easy teacher means easy grade. I didn't put much effort in the class and I still passed. Would take him again in a heartbeat!

he is a pretty cool teacher. always late. kinda funny and interesting. i really didn't learn a whole lot from him.

Robert Roden is very nice teacher, he tries to be very helpful to the students with any work by annoucing to the class of when he is available either before or after class, also, Mr. Roden is a very easy teacher to understand as well as get along with...

Good teacher to talk with. not to good to learn from but he is easy. yes he is mostly late but who cares. allows extra time and is open to reasoning with the class.

Robert Roden is one of the most approachable professors I've had. He encourages input from the class and seems to still be excited about what he's teaching. I don't think he is easy at all.. he gives assignments that take some effort,but if you want to sit back and not do the work, he's not going to drag you along either.

Roden is funny and laughs at his own jokes! He is still feeling out the teaching lecture thing so he stumbles around now and then. He always tries to help, but he wont push you. Very easy class, very nice person.

Mr. Roden is a fine teacher, for the average college student. If you're planning to major in English, you might want a more rigorous teacher, but for the rest of us, he's relatively easy and really cares--he even structures lectures specific to each class. He scores essays very fairly, judging you on your writing, not your opinions--thank goodness!

The essay prompt's that he gives out, make no sense at all, they are confusing as hell. Half of the class gets up & leaves because he is a waste of time. He is a nice guy, he will help you out, but you have to go to him for help. I think that you should give him a chance, his tests are super easy & he is funny but not a lot of structure or clarity

Enjoyed his class. Out of all my classes, this class had the most energy. He is easy to talk to and doesn't have strict rules. Almost no busy work. You learn alot with quick lessons but the he will still go at the classes' pace. He will extend a due date of a paper if he hasn't finished grading the previous one. Show up and do work = good grade

I don't know what some of these people are talking about Roden is a great teacher. and more importantly he is a great guy and really cares about his students and their work. he is willing to help you out anytime you need it. this class is easy but not that easy. you have to do your work and do it well to pass. i would take him again in a heartbeat.

I highly recommend this teacher. He is a wonderful person as well as a wonderful teacher. Overall, this class was pretty easy and fun. You only have 4 or 5 essays. There is minimal homework and no Quizzes or Tests. That doesn't mean that you won't have to work or you don't learn. Because I learned a lot and enhanced my essay techniques.

I took his class in Spring 07 and I recently found some old papers from his class, and it reminded me what a cool teacher he is. He's funny and a sweetheart. He is very helpful and approachable, someone you could hang out wiht after class. Ok, I kinda had a little crush on him. : )

Mr. Roden turned out to be a really down to earth teacher. He was super helpful and my overall experience in his class was a good one. My only problem with him was not getting like half my essays back at the end of the year but aside from that I have no complaints. Take him! He's really fair and fun teacher!

Professor Roden is such a sweetheart! He is one of the coolest teachers I have ever had. He's extremely down to earth and funny. He really wants you to succeed. Turn in your stuff on time and make sure it's decent quality- you'll be just fine. I Definitely recommend him, I wish I could take him for every english class I have to take. TAKE THIS GUY!

I liked the teacher, he's really lenient, & he has a funny sense of humor. The class is super easy, but really boring. You just show up & discuss literature. There's 3 essay papers that we had to do. Other than that we had a few really small hw assignments that were easy.

He is super relaxed/easy and I enjoyed his English 1A class. Quite an easy class, & for an english class it is actually relatively entertaining (I dont like english). He's pretty funny and understanding. I didn't actually learn a ton, but I also didnt put a ton of effort in b/c I dont like the subject. If you put more effort in you can learn

He's a good instructor BUT there were a lot of assignments from the book that were a bit annoying. The class did get to bring in their own work and work in workshops. NO Sci-Fi. :( Overall, the instructor did what he could and even though I didn't learn much, it was still an okay class. Easy. No tests or quizzes just a portfolio due at the end.

Roden, I really wish he was teaching all english classes that I will be required to take in the future..... LOVE LOVE LOVE him as a teacher!!!!

Prof Roden is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He makes sense with pretty much everything he says and pushes you to get better in your arguments without making it stressful. He almost feels like a friend to the class and I really liked that personal level he has.

Best English prof I've had at Sierra. I appreciate the way his 1C class got me thinking and my writing abilities improved in leaps and bounds this semester.

Roden is a really nice guy, and was very kind when working with those who needed extra help or had disabilities. He had a little trouble connecting with the class and keeping the energy level up, but I don't blame him with the people we had in our class haha- no one was interested even though he was trying. Inspired me personally, would recommend!

So glad I got Roden for Creative Writing, has great assignments, uses Canvas religiously, and has great feedback on stories. The theories he uses for creating works of lit are awesomeextremely helpful. He's funny, too. If you're an active participator in discussions, you will have a lot of fun and learn a lot about your own writing abilities.

I never was really good in english, but Prof. Roden really helped me turn that around. I will recommend him to anyone who is honestly trying improve there writing strength.

Roden is the freakin' man. He actually cares about his students and their progression. Super helpful and easy to talk to. So happy he taught me to write before my big boy english classes. Easily relatable. Plan to take him if more english is a must. Oh, he never gives too much HW, but he is consistent. Just keep up and youll be fine.

Professor Roden is one of my favorites. I had him for English 37 Summer 2013 and I have been waiting since then to get into his English 1B class. Roden is just a cool dude. He does give a lot of work but it's managable. Rarely cancels class. He does teach the right criteria for this class. If you're looking for an easy A . I mean you could do it. You just have to stay on top of it.

Professor Roden was amazing! I took engl1b for critical thinking/writing about literature and there was a total of 4 essays due over the semester. There's a lot of reading and note taking on each reading from your textbook and novel he assigns, but he's a very understanding and lenient teacher that works with you! Overall, an amazing person+class!

This professor is the most inspiring I ever had- so far in my life!! I'm 32 years old. The verse that says a man created in the image of God can be applied to this human being! He respects he students and makes ppl feel like a million dollars. Had an awesome experience!!! Even students who ask the dumbest questions he would ask "what do you mean"

Professor Roden is cool! To anyone reading this, I highly recommend this class. Sure there is quite a bit of reading, but it is manageable with some effort. Roden always makes himself available to students. I can confidently say that, despite distance learning circumstances, I have become a better writer because of this class! :)

Great teacher! Blessed to have during COVID! Organized and understanding. If you need help don't be afraid to reach out. Lots of help from Teacher,Tutor, and peers. 3 essays (MLA) were 1,200 words last essay 2500-3500 words based on a book that you read in the 2nd half of the semester. Assignments Article annotations, 4 Papers in total and Book.

Replies to emails quick and has many opportunities to meet for extra help. Has 2 books to read, one he chooses and one you choose from a few options. We had 4 essays from 1,300 to 1,600 words and the last one was 3,000 words. Since this was online I turned in my assignments like a couple hours late and he was cool with it. Grades pretty easy.

Mr Roden is the best male english teacher ive ever had. very understanding when it came to some tough mental health issues that caused some late assignments. He cares about his students and their wellbeing. Only read 3 books and wrote 4 essays all semester those were the only real assignments other than a few one off things. 10/10 would recommend

Professor Roden has a well structured class. You read a couple books and do an essay on each one. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot about my writing.

I took the 8 week course. A lot of reading & assignments w/ readings but doable. Last reading is your choice on 3 books - does warn the content can be a bit sensitive to some, but overall was not bad. *REALLY* understanding regarding late work if you are just honest. Responsive & does weekly check-ins as discussions to make sure students are okay.

I would take this professor if I were you. He has been my favorite professor throughout my college experience!

If you get the opportunity to take this professor please do. My last professor used to talk to me like I was a little writing. He didn't act like a professor. However Robert really gave me the fire I used to have for writing. He was super understanding when things came up for me and was super willing to give extensions! AMAZING teacher!

The readings were so fun! Some of them were longer than others but that didn't matter to me. He grades promptly which was super helpful. He is available for student office hours and will meet for any reason that you want to. He is super fun to talk to overall as well. I also appreciate how quickly he responds to emails so that is also a huge plus!

I highly recommend Professor Roden as an English professor at Sierra College. His teaching style is exceptional, and he genuinely cares about his students' success. Professor Roden is great, definitely take him for English 1B. His communication is clear regarding grading and what he expects, making it possible to get an A in the class. He gives more than enough time to complete essays and work on them in class and he is very caring of students and constantly checks in.

Very kind and caring. Sometimes unclear on instructions or due dates. Will let you make up assignments for full credit (not including essay assignments). Great lectures, very funny, and loves to work with students on their papers to make them better. LOTS of reading, take this class if you are not taking other heavy classes.
