He is the guy you want to go talk about real world. I mean he condenses what is important from the 40+ pg chapter into 3-4 pages. We look at the WSJ and look at how concepts in the book apply. It was my first finance class, but I loved every bit of it.
if you do the homework and copy all the notes in your calculator, this class is a breeeeeeeeeeeze!
THE BEST TEACHER AT DEPAUL! i mean the guy gives us practice quizzes(w/ ans.)before midterm and final!! he is easy to follow IF YOU DO THE HOMEWORK-w/c is easy is you read the book and his notes! easy A! gotta know math, that's it!
This is the kind of person you would want to work for. He does a great job of explaining complicated financial information and makes sure everyone understands it. I learned a lot from this class and would recommend him as a great teacher to everyone!
He's cocky to say the less. Then he requires that you purchase the wall street journal, what a waste. In class he totally surfs the internet looking for real world things, and spends little to no time going over what's important and what he'll put on the midterm or final. I would not take him again.
BEST professor!!!!! He tells you exactly what you need to know for the quizzes and exams. I got a 100% on the first quiz. He is very clear. He makes you do the calculations which are relatively easy and uses real world examples. Make sure you do the homework and you'll get an "A."

He's not easy to follow, he's in his own little world sometimes. He's a bad teacher but he "knows" what hes talking about. His midterms and finals are very straight forward cause he give you practice ones that are identical to his the exams
ryan is a smart guy, but unfortanetly he cannot express himself in a intellectual manner. He instead skims topics, forgets formulas, tease the slower students. He is overall an terrible teacher. Why don't u save the $1,800.00 for the class and teach urself, because essentially that's what u will do.
I don't know what these people are talking about...if you just do the homework and read his notes you will get an A, no question. One downfall-if you take him at night he goes the full time every week.
the guy is lazy and sucks! stay away got a d+

Great Professor! Explains things well. Gives practice problems for quizes and exams. Not hard to get an A, just do ur hw. I recommend him if you want to major in finance. Cuz u ll learn a LOT!
This guy is an awesome teacher. Not only does he give you real-life examples, but makes the class fun. For all the dumba$$e$ who took him and did bad, guess what, you might need to consider working a bit harder, because the teacher outlines test and quiz questions. The rest is hw and showing up to class. If you cant follow that, give up on life
the man thinks he's funny, and he's not. He doesn't teach, just confuses people more. He always makes mistakes, and his pre quizzes are not like the quiz or test. I think the people who are doing that well are just the nerds who have nothing better to do, but memorize the damn book. Take Berry much easier
I'm a finance major im glad i took him because he does know alot but he cant really teach that well. HE rambles in class about g-d knows what and just confuses people. Be prepeared to bring in the wallstreet journal everyday and discuss it because it shows up on the midterm. Intresting topic but not the best professor for explaing material
He is a very good prof. once u get used to his style of teaching. He makes you think instead of just hanfeeding you the material. He does not curve, but if you do all of the homework, read the book and pay attention to his lectures you can earn an A. Definitely not an easy class and he does not portray it to be.
If you do the homework problems and understand them you will be more than fine. He basically takes problems he does in class and the homework problems and puts them on the test. He rambles once in a while, but not too hard just do the work
Homework is collected but not graded. There are two quizzes, midterm, and final exam. If you understand how to do homework problems, you will not be more than fine on quizzes or exams. The book is not helpful but he posts his lectures’ notes on blackboard. Study from them and you will get A, B+ easily. He curves at the end.
His teaching style takes some getting used to. I haven't had a favorable impression of him at first, but over time I had to change my opinion. He is definitely an EXCELLENT professor. I give him an A for his class.
For people who are not good with finance I would not suggest this teacher. Nothing is done on the board so it is hard to really know visually what he is talking about- He just stands there and talks. Before you know it he completed a complex lesson and you don't know what happened.
Professor Ryan is the best finance professor at Depaul and he is smokin HOTTTT!!!If only he wasn't married :(
He's a good teacher in a way that he knows how to draw on real life situations. If you are one of those people that don't believe in reading a book then you won't do well. If you know how to do the HW problems and test examples, you'll be fine. Also, get a study guide (really helpful). He's goofy in a geeky kind of way- which is actually cute :)
Professor Ryan gives a lot of real life example. The class goes by quick. He goes through a lot of material in each class. Make sure you know how to do all the homework, Quizzes, Practice exam, then you will be set for the midterm and the final!!
Great Professor. Need to work hard and study but you learn a lot from the class. You will get the grade you deserve. Don't really need to buy the book.
At first he comes off as a jerk, but he is actually more than willing to help and VERY knowledgeable about the finance industry. Has a sense of humor, but you wont notice that until a few weeks into the course. Read the book and do all of your homework before class! He is not a hard grader and he does have a small grading curve. He has a cute butt!
Great teacher. Have to do the homework but if you know how to do the homework you will be good for the exams. No need for a book because he uses powerpoint for his presentations. Midterm, Final and two quizes plus homework. Take him you will learn a lot.
There r 2 RR at depaul, one for acct and one for finance! i am not sure if ppl r mixing them up. FOR FINANCE i did not find him very easy, it was hard for me to understand wha he is saying..i didnt even bother i left after break! just read the book! he is helpful but confusing! take thomas berry for FIN 310!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He know's what he is talking about, but does not teach it very well. Many times left people confused about the best way to do a problem. You almost need to know the whole subject already before you can start to understand his teaching. If you are going to take him, make sure you spend a lot of time completing the homework before he teaches it.
Professor Ryan is extremely knowledgeable in his field. His exams are not that easy, but if you did and understood homework then it should be easy. He's quite a funny guy at times, and is not as intimidating as he seems. Thoroughly enjoyed his class and I also learned a lot. Take him over Berry if you really want to learn something about finance.
Interesting method of teaching. He will let you struggle and then not tell you the correct way to work a problem. It actually worked because it forced you to read and learn the material. Will throw difficult and extensive problems that you have hd no exposure to in class on every exam but ends up giving you more points than deserved.
Difficult class. Ryan is not very clear, so be prepared to teach yourself. Buy the study guide, we called it "the Bible". first quiz and second test are the hardest!
Little work load. Easy class for me. Almost no homework, Exam is easy for me.
Exams are really hard. Study alot expecially all the homework problems, those help alot. Try not skipping class because you'll miss alot. I recommend this class if you're a Finance major.
Great teacher! If you are a Finance Major take him. He prepares you very nicely to what is yet to come. If you understand the homework, you will do fine.
Great guy. Funny, and knowledgable.
he is really over rated, he changed all his test and they are really hard now, he doesnt ask any thing from text avoid taking his class
Tests are extermely hard! The class average for the second quiz was a 59%. You basically have to teach yourself, because he makes absolutley no sense. HW is way easier than the quizes and tests. Don't take him!
A lot of the homwork given are not even on the quizzes, but most of the questions are related to material taught in class. The final was essentially all previous quiz questions and some new material. Made the class think rather than give away the answers.
Professor has no idea what is going on.. I admit that the quizzes and tests were fairly simple. But the hours spent in class are essentially a waste of life. Most of it is spent on MSN and Yahoo Finance searching useless that doesn't apply to life. If you reach out for help, he acts like he's doing a favor on you for helping.
A lot of people say that this professor is difficult or horrible but it really depends on what major you're in. If you're majoring in Finance take him, he makes you learn instead of just giving the answers. Aplia, Textbook Homework, 2 Quizzes, and a Final. Really cool guy if you just participate in class.
If you want to learn about finance DO NOT take him. He is horrible and doesn't know how to teach. He is extremely difficult. If you go to his office for help, he would insult you and may make you cry. I really don't recommend this teacher. This whole past quarter was a big tourcher to me.
Super hard forces you to learn but it pays off in the long run. Hated the class when i was in it may have made me grey, but the hard work forces you to learn and is VERY helpful in later classes. If you show your trying and see him in his office he may give u some**** but its helpful and stuff he has already done in class so he is allowed to
He will teach you how NOT to solve problems rather than how to solve them. Makes constant mistakes when going through problems and covers them up by saying "well thats not right now is it" as if it was intended. Bad professor.
Very bad teacher, Lectures Unclear,Midterm is crazy hard, refuses to answer all questions , Most likely I will get a c+ or -B. Didn't learn anything.Half way through the class period (90min) he is finished with the lecture and wastes time on preaching on the stuff you will not need for the test instead of solving problems which will kill your grade
This guy is worthless. Accused me of cheating and made me sit in front of the class so he could look over my shoulder like a 3rd grader. I still received a 100%, but no thanks to Ryan. He's a dean now and does not reply to emails. Way to go DePaul!
He is not that bad, his tests are little tricky but if you know the concept, you will be fine on the tests. Do the homework and take notes in the class, I got As on his FIN 310 and 311
Professor Ryan, is a very lenient grader. Midterm is tough, but prepares you for the rest of the class. Show up ask questions about the homework if you don't understand it, he goes through materials at a fast pace. He does get a little side tracked at times. Overall a better finance instructor than the previous ones I had.
If you don't know finance, then this class will be tough. He expects you to know your stuff, and he can be very unclear when he lectures. No H/W due, just quizzes and tests. Did better than expected because he can be lenient with grading.
There will be two unannounced pop quizzes 1ST QUIZ ON RATIO 2ND PROBLEM SOLVE; each worth 10% of the final grade; a REALLY HARD midterm exam worth 35% of the final grade ; an other HARD scheduled exam in the second half of class worth 30% of the final grade; and SUPER HARD final exam worth 15% of the final grade. Does not explain well!
Prof. Ryan is a great professor. Anyone who says he isn't just didn't understand the material...and that's fine. It is a tough course, but his tests are EXACTLY what you learn in class. If he didn't mention it its not on the test, and if it is he grades it ridiculously lenient even though you should know it. I loved having him. Very knowledgeable.
Good teacher. You will have to work in his class, but since he doesnt spoon feed you the answers, you actually will learn. If you want a bit of a challenge take him
He is very knowledgeable but does not know how to teach. Take someone else if you can.
Professor Ryan is a great professor. He will answer questions and go over homework as long as people have questions. Took him for 310 as well. Tests are exactly what you go over for HW. However, he will through in 1 or 2 challenging questions per test that go above and beyond the material. One of the best profs if you're a finance major.
If you want to feel hopeless and confused, then take him. I felt his unclarity and confusing lectures made the course material a lot more difficult to understand and comprehend. He doesn't lecture. Classtime is spent going over homework problems that he'll twist and turn to confuse you even more.
What a horrible prof. very unclear during lectures, he thinks he is funny, when in reality its a waste of time to even attend his class.. but he makes you since he gives you pop quizzes that are 20% of your grade and are extremely hard.. I do NOT recommend taking this course at all, it will just confuse the hell out of you.
He is very strict, and does not seem very personable at all. I did learn a lot, but everything he taught me was not on his final. If he did not try to trick students so often he would be great, but he does, so I do not recommend.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I never got a B in my life and ended up getting a B in his class. Lectures were boring and his test is not based on lecture. Might be better off just stay at home and read the textbook. 1 page of notes allowed on midterm and final. One group project.
Does not know how to teach and simplify his explanation of steps within a concept. He tried to help but at the same time didn't provide enough problems from the text to master each chapter. Taking classes like finance requires repetition and practice to learn and that's where he (and my grade) fell short. D2L docs he posts need more organization.
This is a hard course but if you put in the work you'll do well. Concepts are a bit confusing but go in for help if you're confused. Professor Ryan is really nice and was always willing to explain things further. My advice is to read, do HW, participate in class (be active and care) and study. Final was pretty hard, midterm was not bad at all
I would say this teacher is one of the worst teachers at DePaul University. Not only does he make you sit through an hour and a half of boring lectures, but he does not give any example problems throughout the class. He suggests reading the book. He will give you formulas that are incorrect to solve problems, and confuses students his explanations
Great professor if you have any clue at all about finance already. His quizzes and tests are fairly easy if you study the material. There are no trick questions Only downfall is his lectures are REALLY boring but helpful and he knows it. Grade relies on 1 quiz, midterm, and final. (There are two different Rob Ryan's 1 for ACC 1 for FIN) Good luck
Ryan is a really good teacher! He uses real-life examples which actually help you remember things on the tests and quizzes. If you study, you'll be fine. If you miss a class, it may be hard to learn on your own. He does post videos for each chapter on D2L to review the content and gives out handouts to practice problems.
Pretty boring, but if you like dry humour, Ryan's your guy. The stuff he does in class is way harder than what he tests on, so you might freak out during the quarter until you see how easy the midterm is. Lots of formulas, no cheatsheets, but that's to be expected from a finance class.
Payed thousands of dollars to learn from a module and a book. Doesn't teach in class and expects you to know everything. Would not recommend especially if your a finance majors.
Robert (or Bobby as he likes to be called) is a very knowledgeable person. Sadly, he can not convey that to his pupils. Hes kind of goofy, like the Cookie Monster. He always has a student who he likes to make fun of until they drop out. Dont take this guy. He sets a trap, seeming like a good professor at first. Then he closes the trap.
Rob Ryan is an interesting human. He laughs at serious questions when 90% of the students are confused. Did not care that half the class was failing either. Tries hard to be funny but to be honest its disgusting. Almost threw up. If you plan on being a financial major, this guy will change your mind. Final was hard, midterm was also hard.
His exams and quizzes are hard if you aren't naturally good at accounting. You technically have NO homework, but in order to pass the class you have to work on the class questions and notes OUTSIDE of class. He is an OK professor because his lectures have a tendency to go off the rails quite often. Decent professor, but I wouldn't take him again.
This was by far the hardest class I have taken at DePaul. I am an all A student, but I had to work my butt off for an A. Professor Ryan is rather condescending and his lectures are useless, so get ready to teach yourself. However, midterm, quizzes, and final are all homework problems so if you study then you should be fine.
The only way to pass this class with a good grade is to study, study, study and study. All the quizzes and midterm are based from the homework questions. (exactly the same). The final is completely different. Make sure you know all the formulas.
One of my worst experiences with a teacher, he wants you to fail. He says if you do well then he will make stuff harder. Quizzes almost every week that are extremely hard and then midterm and final. Do not take unless you want to tank your GPA.
If you want to learn accounting without having to teaching yourself, do not take Rob Ryan. You have weekly quizzes, he drops the lowest one but even so the quizzes are difficult. The midterm was ridiculously difficult, nothing we really learned was on the midterm. We never do enough problems in class to actually get a hang of the material.
Clearly Rob Ryan has a good understanding of finance. Unfortunately, he cannot teach for his life. His lectures are dull and extremely uninformative. Avoid taking a 3-hour lecture at all cost, you will sit there wishing you we're literally anywhere else in the world. He does not specify what is on quizzes or tests, making preparation very hard.
Prof. Ryan will not teach, if you ask a question or for him to teach differently he says to change the way you learn instead. I had to teach myself every homework chapter. Quizzes are on homework. Midterm on homework problems, did not tell us and told us it would be much harder. Final is cumulative. Overall don't waste your time with this professor
If is your first time taking Finance DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HIM!! he goes by the book and really do not elaborate much. His lectures are boring and do not make it interesting.
On a skill that you need to be taught the correct way, he relies on you teaching yourself. I would not recommend this class at all.
Just look at his picture online youll start hating him from there. Horrible guy
His teaching style is different than most profs I've had. He doesn't treat the class like a lecture and makes you participate. He calls you out if you don't know your stuff/do the work so it can be intimidating but it helped me really grasp all the concepts. Class ?s and the worksheets are important, study from them! Learned a lot from him!
He's definitely more on the monotone side of professors. But He knows his stuff and actively tries to teach the course to us non-finance majors (since it's FIN 300). Problem is, I took a 3 hr class and the class bombards w/ info at that point. He does several activities to get interaction and understandment. Also, weekly hw but he reviews it too!
I only took him because i waited last minute to sign up for classes. Thanks to him ill be signing up extra early for classes from now on. Very boring professor who just reads of slides, get ready to teach yourself.
This class is horrible. Only reason i was stuck with him because he is the only teacher there is... depaul honestly has terrible standards in teachers. Whats the point of paying thousands of dollars to go to a class only to have to teach yourself every single freakin thing.
Lectures are just him reading slides extremely monotone and slowly. Most of the time doesn't elaborate on anything and makes very little sense. The homework online help taught me more than he did, and I learned all of the material by myself outside of class. Among my least favorite class experiences at DePaul
Unless you plan on teaching yourself then take him. If not I suggest taking another professor!
Rob Ryan is a disgrace to the finance department at DePaul University, he does not only look like a pedo, but also, he is an appalling professor. As a student who took FIN 300 and received an A. I feel as though this class personally drained me. Please do yourself a favor and do not take Rob Ryan, take anyone else, if you care about edu.
I got an A in acct 101 and a c in his acct 102 class. He is very knowladgble about the subject but has NO IDEA how to teach it. If u don't go to class good luck because u will never be hearing that information again. I did all of the hw and I am a good student and I still struggled a lot. Good class if u already know this stuff not for begginners.
I struggled in this class due to personal issues. However, he is very compassionate and will work with you if he sees you trying. I wasted money on the book, his class questions, class notes, and handouts will get you through the class. I liked the fact that he calls out on everyone in the class which keeps you interested and engaged in the lesson.
It is almost as if he wants students' lives to be as difficult as possible. Inconsiderate of our time with the amount of studying he requires.
The virus impacted everyone, some more than others. This professor proved he was incapable of recognizing that; he lacked respect, consideration, and sympathy for his students during the lockdown. He thinks that being tough is a good way of teaching. Such a hard class made even more difficult by an awful professor.
The professor in my opinion makes the class way more difficult than what it should be, this should be an introduction. He's a little picky on how he wants the answers written on the tests. Maybe a few problems are from the hw, majority he writes so references are hard to go off, even though the online tests are openbook. I would advise wait.
Theres so much work. This week alone there was a quiz Monday, two things due Tuesday, two due Wednesday, two due Thursday, and five due Friday. I have four other classes. I can barely learn that much material in one week period, let alone for one class. Much less teach it to myself because all I have is a recorded lecture and a textbook.
He makes his class very difficult to pass, whatever he knows in 30 years he expects you to know it in 15mts. Does not grade homework or gives credit for all your work. Class is made for failure.
Take another Professor. This guy is definitely not it. He is incompetent and lost. He doesnt understand how to teach, he just goes over slides that arent his. Literally a deranged situation.
Professor Ryan is a nice guy, but I would definitely pass on taking this class online. There is a large number of homework assignments that are never truly explained and the recorded lectures don't make them any easier. You are graded on 5 quizzes, a midterm, and a final - if you mess up on one of them good luck recovering your grade. Not worth it!
worst professor I have ever had. Beware
Worst professor I've ever had, most likely worst at DePaul. Homework is required to be submitted in a specific format but isn't graded. The only grades for the course are 3 tests. The final is 40% of your grade. Lectures are useless and a waste of time. Loves to tell pointless stories about his clients instead of teaching. Avoid at all costs.
One of the best Professors. He expect you to study. You will not get a good grade unless you study. Great lectures, helpful, always interesting examples. You will understand concepts and get a knowledge from his class.
Midterm 120%, midterm 230%, final40%, participation10% which he altered at EOS. No curves given and two weeks before semester ends he gives a research paper. Participation grade is your homework & needs to be submitted in a particular format every week. Lectures did not help much at all, was confused most of the class. Final is cumulative.
I ended up dropping his class two weeks before midterms. I was having a really difficult time with his class and anytime I went to him for help he was not helpful in the least bit. My best friends mom is a CPA and I showed her what I was working on and said she didn't even know what he was asking us to do. Not my fav professor.
He says in order to get a good grade in the class you need to stay ahead of the him. For example, if the next class you're learning a new chapter he expects you to already know it. Horrible teacher.
Do yourself a favor and don't take his class. Easily the worst professor I've had at DePaul. Does not teach well, you have to learn it all on your own time. He gives weekly quizzes that are 15 minutes 15 questions, gives no accommodations, and doesn't even hold office hours. He's an accountant just decided to teach, and has no idea how to.
I hate seeing all of the Robert Ryan slander on this page. Honestly, hes a good professor and all of the bad reviews on this page are from marketing students who take this class and dont want to memorize basic accounting concepts. Hell teach you well but you just have to memorize it and pay attention. That just means putting in some extra work
Save yourself the trouble and do NOT take this class. He gives you so much homework that he expects to be completed to perfection, yet he grades them as participation points. He is passive aggressive when you try and reach out to him for help, and he gives you 15min to complete 15 question quizzes that requires a lot of math and thought to finish.
Do not listen to any positive reviews. Professor Ryan's lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the assignments he gives, leaving you to figure it out on your own. The lectures are also confusing as he jumps around from topic to topic and tells you to ignore things that then show up on the quizzes. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Be prepared to learn on your own HEAVILY if you choose to take his asynchronous class. He will offer zoom classes but they're optional. He tries to provide help but will honestly just repeat things in worksheets and you will have to make a lot of connections on your own. If you have the choice and HAVE to take his class, DO IN PERSON.
Professor Ryan clearly understands the material he is teaching, but is a poor teacher. Expect things he tells you not to worry about to not be on tests/quizzes and to teach yourself a lot of the material. You also get few chances to mess up, with in-person quizzes and exams being basically your entire grade. Definitely find another professor.
Professor Ryan is the worst professor I've taken so far at DePaul. It's safe to say that every bad review on here about him is accurate. He can't teach, expects you to learn and know the material before he teaches it, and his lectures are completely irrelevant to the quizzes and tests. If possible, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Lecture's aren't very helpful so be ready to study a lot on your own. HW, Quizzes, and exams are all on mylab and they give you examples of how to solve the problems. Quizzes and exams are super easy and he gives you extra time to complete them after the due date. Put in the work and you'll get an A no problem.
This class was done through Pearson finance lab. One assignment and one quiz per week. 3 exams throughout the quarter. Rob Ryan is a really nice and caring teacher and all the material is related to real world finance work. Good class but certainly a take the test, forget the rest kind of vibe. If you need help reach out to Rob, he is very kind.
Don't take Ryan for ACC 102 unless you want to barely scrap by - if you're lucky. One 15 minute, 15 problem quiz a week on a new chapter. Final is cumulative. Grade breakdown is terrible. Good luck.
I don't know why he has so many bad reviews. He is passionate about what he does and really wants students to succeed. It's intimidating when he calls on you in class but it makes sure you put in the work to get a good grade!
Professor Ryan is horrible. He gives arbitrary examples in class and doesn't really go over the material in depth in class. He expects you to know the content before class starts and is "disappointed" in the class when everyone does poorly on the quizzes. He never reflects on himself to see how he failed. Worst Strobel Professor ever.
Quizzes are full of content that was never discussed before. is proud when students do poorly on quizzes, it's like it plays into his god complex. Kind of braggy about how much money he has. Definitely have to put in a lot of hours outside of class to do well.
RUN if you have this Professor. He "teaches" 102H for strobel and is the worst. All his lectures are irrelevant for the quizzes/midterm/final. For an Acc 102 class, his expectations are too high. You have to teach yourself EVERYTHING. He's very intimidating and calls on people in class, so beware. Only gives 15 mins on for 15 questions. good luck..
Good enough professor. Initially very tough to work with, but makes himself very available to the students in his classes. Very knowledgeable on the material he teaches, and if you go to him prepared, he will gladly help you with anything you are confused about. You will be prepared for the final, which is 45% of your grade.
I took FIN 310 in-person with this professor. All of the in-class tests are written by him and are completely different from the quizzes and homework in MyLab. The tests are open note and still the class average was bad. Class is waste of time.
I HATE THIS CLASS. RUNNNN DO NOT TAKE HIM. anyone on here who said its easy took the class online. MY ENTIRE CLASS WAS IN PERSON. His exams do not match the myfinancelab stuff and they're in person. I gave this class my 120%/100% exams super hard and no extra credit. Dont take him
He was absolutely awful. He drones on and on about pointless material but will then test you on things that were never even discussed. He gave a cheat sheet of formulae for common ratios, etc. in finance but then uses a completely different formula when he is providing "clarity" in the quiz/exam. All talk/no actual substance. A waste of time
Rude professor who enjoys intimidating students and bragging about how people fail his quizzes and exams. Extremely difficult and time-consuming class. Don't recommend.
This is a finance professor. The accounting professor is BOB Ryan. Most if not all these bad rates for this professor were meant for Bob Ryan for accounting.
Enrolled last minute. I was worried from the reviews, but honestly this class was easy. It was all online via Pearson. I will admit you will teach yourself more than learning from class, which was once a week. Just do the homework! Actually write down the problems, take notes from the view an example option. Most will be on quizzes/exams. Easy A
Honestly, this is the easiest class I've ever taken at DePaul. Literally, all of the classwork is done on Pearson and consists of homework, quizzes, and three exams. The homework provides examples that will guide you on how to work the problems in Excel. If you're familiar with Excel and put in the work, it's an easy A.
Easy A i liked finance with him
This professor is no the 1 to take if you want to pass with a good grade in ACC 102. I recommend taking any other professor. Bro's hobby is fake flexin on students and hitting licks on your grade. If you tryna bump a 3.7+ gpa do not ride with his class
For those considering taking Introduction level accounting class, NEVER take his class
One of the best/funniest professors that I had at DePaul. Overall, if you did fine in ACC 101, personally think that 102 is far easier/less work. He will call on you in class, but it keeps you alert and helps you to not need to grind as much out of class to learn the material. Weekly Quizzes Graded in class quiz and for completion class questions
Professor Ryan is lecture heavy, but is very knowledgeable, interesting and funny. There is a good amount of homework in his class, but it is a very helpful tool for his midterm and final. His class is difficult, but if you review the videos he gives, take notes, and ask questions, it should help a lot.
Took Robert Ryan for FIN 311. Solid Professor. Weekly class problems, homework is through Pearson, Midterm is based off of Mylab, except Prof. changes wording. Allows for notes on exams( you can use your laptop), final is similar to Midterm besides being cumulative. Prof. is pretty straightforward, respectful, reasonable. Class is lecture heavy.
Professor Ryan is amazing. Midterm and final are open note, as long as you do the homework on MyLabs you can get an A. Homework is so easy it literally tells you how to do it. Midterm/final questions all from homework. Professor Ryan is also very caring and a great guy. Idk why he has so many bad reviews, class was so easy and hes awesome.
I was really worried about taking his FIN 311 bc his ratings are so bad. One of the easiest finance classes I've taken at DePaul. Midterm and Final are the same questions as the homework but with different numbers. Can be annoying in class, but gave points back for work shown on exams (I got a 79 on the midterm and ended up with a 95). Easy A.
Personally I think he just wants to make sure every student walks away learning instead of memorizing problem/answers. He's not always clear when you ask a question though. Overall, easy A+. All assignments and exams are on Pearson/exams are open book. His class is boring but ignore the bad reviews & don't be afraid to take his class.
Be a good student. You don't even have to participate in class discussions, just get your work done on time. He is truly an amazing, caring professor.
Professor Ryan's ACC102 class is challenging, but engaging if you put in the effort. The weekly quizzes and midterm/final keep you on your toes, but attending class and utilizing unstuck study can really help. Overall a tough but rewarding course.
He can definitely be a bit tough in class and there's a lot of information, but he actually wants everyone to understand the content before the course is over. The class was a lot of Pearson assignments but the midterm and finals were basically the Pearson questions, just worded differently which made it easier to remember how to work the problems.
Avoid this professor if possible if you struggle retaining info from the lectures, his teaching style is going off practice problems from homework and notes from the textbook that are tough to follow along. Also, keep in mind there are three tests worth ninety percent of your grade, and he doesn't grade homework but requires it for participation.
Worst professor ever
His lectures are just yapping. Yapping and Yapping. He also just likes stressing students by cold-calling on them and yapping about a made-up example. Never really teaches how to do the problems. Makes you take the hardest test in the class two weeks after midterms. Cumulative final too. Take someone else and save yourself the stress and time.
He has long lectures and does talk for a while. It's optional to buy pearson to study however you do not have to. Three tests, 6 pop quiz, drops lowest scored quiz. Very smart guy who wants student to know their stuff. Is it a blow off class? Well no since it's Finance class. If you want to learn join. Not easy by any means but goo teacher. No hw.
Everyone here is rating Robert Ryan the accounting professor. Robert Ryan the finance professor is excellent. He may be more like a 4/4.5, but not a 2.6 like he has now. He made it funny, every exam is completely open note, book, and computer. One of the best finance professors I've had. Robert Ryan accounting is trash, this guy is not!!
10% Participation 25% Exam 1 30% Exam 2 35% Exam 3 Horrible professor; irrelevant yapping during lecture time and throws curveballs in the exam. No type of extra credit or help. Give irrelevant information of how accounting laws in the early 2000s versus laws now and will use that in exams.
Very educated professor who knows his stuff in finance and actually wants his students to learn and apply these concepts in real life. If you want an easy A then this class is definitely not it. The class is graded all on exams and pop quizzes with exams taking up 90% of the grade. Not mandatory, but you'll want to buy Pearson and start studying.
Just to let you know, he is going over material on the day of the final. That should tell you everything about this professor
Exams are extremely difficult and nothing can prepare you for them. Most students got 70s and below on exams that make up 90% of grade. Will have to retake for the first time ever and I put so much time into this class. Classes are him reminiscing on his childhood and making people talk about it with him. Do not let this professor keep teaching.
STAY AWAY. This is the worst class I've ever taken and can't believe DePaul keeps him. So outdated with his lectures it's just word docs of the IRC. Exams need calculation. If you miss one detail from the IRC you will instantly get the question wrong. THE FINAL CONSISTED OF 13 Chapters which 3 of them he went through on the last day of class.
tests are worth 90% of the grade. he is a nice professor, and has some good real world examples, but the class simply covers way too much material. he also didn't put assignment due dates in the syllabus and sprung assignments on us less than 24 hrs before they were due. check D2L. and for the tests idk good luck
Class is one big lecture. 7 quiz and lowest score quiz is dropped. Three tests worth 30% each and quiz portion is 10%. Not an easy class but chill guy,
Lovely and smart guy. Some will say that the class was hard, which it really was not. If you study, you are good. Exams are open note but no laptops or phones which I assume gave some people troubles.
