This is Prof. Lundy's replacement. Having never taken Lundy, I greatly enjoyed this course. Not difficult for a non-science major to get into. Prof. Schubert is a passionate, freshfaced, recent graduate who loves monkeys a lot. You will too. He is helpful and sympathetic, kind and understanding. Cute pictures of monkeys. Best lab science ever.
I recommend this class and professor. He has EXCELLENT teaching skills! Passionate about the topic. Explains everything very clearly. Helpful. Easy science lab class plus its super interesting! The best teacher I have had at Clark.
He is wonderful and brilliant. He knows what he's talking about, and is passionate about it. He is so easy to talk to if you need help!
He is a very good professor. My only gripe was that he seemed to like making fun of different belief systems than his own. Otherwise, he is a very good professor who knows his stuff and is great at keeping the attention of students.
Great Teacher. There are 3 tests each worth 25% of your grade. But labs are worth 25% and all you have to do is show up to them and your get the credit. DR. Rob will answer any questions in class and will meet you in his office anytime. VERY helpful and if you study and take good notes this class is not bad.
I am terrible with lecture an usually retain no information, but I found his lectures entertaining and actually learned from them. Attendance for lecture isn't mandatory but I recommend going as often as possible- and don't miss out on labs, they help a lot!
Dr. Schubert is a great professor! He grades fairly and doesn't assign too much work, but you also learn a lot. He's very nice, friendlyhelpful, and always willing to help you out if you have any problems. Most of the class is lecture, but he makes it fun. Highly reccomended; I couldn't have asked for a better anthropology teacher.:)
He is an excellent teacher of this subject and very smart. With our extremely large class size he managed to give equal attention and merit to the view points of everyone in the class. Very objective.
He is a great teacher, his lectures are fun and i found it easy to remember the information. There are not a ton of assignments and a few random quizzes that you can easily pass even if you just skim the articles (although it would probably be better to read them.) The big project is also really fun. I loved taking this class.
He changed the class to now having four tests each worth 20% of your grade and then lab being worth 20%. Lab attendance gives you 100% there and the overall class is just fun. Best class I have taken at Clark.
I think he was a awesome teacher, very helpful. He was considerate of everyone's opinions. He made sure everybody was comfortable. I would recommend him.
Extremely good teacher. Keeps class interesting, but at the same time expects you to do your homework. Willing to elaborate and rephrase if a concept is not taking hold. Oh and his labs are so fun!
Great teacher, lots of info on the first and third test but go to class and study then you should pass. Very fun labs too.
This was my first science and it was great. He makes the class fun to cometo and you dont have to come to lecture as long as you make you weekly lab. Exams were on class notes and as long as you took notes you are good. He gives out study guides and the test is from this:)
He is a great teacher. We had a B average at the end, which is pretty good for such a topic. It is my first science class, and I dislike science/ math courses, but he made this very fun and interesting. I HIGHLY recommend this teacher.
This class is hard. I'm really bad at science and found myself struggling on the tests, averaging a low to high C on all exams. Despite this class being hard, it is one of the most interesting classes I have taken at Clark. I highly recommend this class if you want an INTERESTING science class. But it is challenging. Class average is usually a C/B
Made class entertaining and was very clear in lecture. tests are based off lecture. I highly recommend Dr. Schubert!
This guy has his stuff together, had a great time and learned alot considering I am certainly not the target demographic for this class. It was a block check for WSU but I am glad I took it.
I took his cultural anthropology course just for the credits, but I liked this teacher so much, I took his bioanthropology class too! The only time I didn't do as well as I expected on a test was when I missed one class day, so attendance is necessary not mandatory. The labs were the easy, and each test isn't cumulative. Bonus: he is funny!
Great class, very helpful and informative lecture style. there aren't a lot of opportunities for points so make the most of the ones you get. stay up on lectures and show up to class and you should be able to pass this class with a good grade.
Great teacher and is really passionate about what he teaches. His tests are moderately hard just make sure you stay caught up on all your readings that is assigned.
he is a pretty cool guy. his bio anthropology class was the first natural science class I took here, it was hard but not impossible to get a good grade. I still don't like science classes but his class was somewhat fun. I would recommend him to any non-science majors
this class was so much fun! Dr. Rob was funny, charming, and not bad to look at. Best science class at Clark.
Professor Schubert has a lot of real-world knowledge and experience in the field of anthropology. His lectures are often very interesting, as well as insightful. He's a pretty easy going guy who really just wants you to learn and do your best. If you follow the study guides for the exams and do the readings, there's no reason why you shouldn't pass
Dr. Rob is fantastic! He's so interesting and fun, super high energy. He studied monkeys in Africa - always has a great story to tell. While the subject matter wasn't always interesting, I enjoyed the class because he's so personable and charming. Didn't have homework, just 4 tests & lab. Take proper notes and you should be good! Highly recommend.
Shubert is Great. His lectures are thorough and understandable, he's passionate about what he does, he can answer any question you have, and respectful of differing views. His tests are complex and based on lectures so if you don't go to class you won't pass them. But if you do the work and participate there's no reason you should fail.
Dr. Rob is a great teacher. His lectures are all power point which can be pretty boring, but he tries to make it fun with projects and activities. He knows the subject inside and out so there is very few questions he can't answer, and we tried.
Dr. Schubert is a fantastic teacher, I learned alot from him! This wasn't exactly the easiest class the work was very comprehensive but as long as you listen along and take notes you'll pass the exams.
Dr. Rob's lectures were essentially textbook summaries, highlighting/expanding on areas where students would be tested. His generally positive outlook and enthusiasm for teaching made it easy to learn from him. I would definitely take more of his classes, but they tend to get filled as soon as registration opens. Great teacher, great personality.
He's awesome, makes the lectures easy to listen to and keep your interest up. Of course, I was already super interested in this sort of stuff, but some people I talked to that said they had to take the class, said that enjoyed him as well.
Great instructor and interesting class! Dr. Schubert is a recent graduate who stays current with recent primate research. His sense of humor makes class enjoyable. He is a field primatologist and always has interesting real life stories and field experience to share about studying primates. Tests aren't too hard but require a lot of studying.
Dr. Schubert is one of the most interesting engaging teachers at Clark College. He is so enthusiastic about what he teaches. He always will make time to clarify things for a student. If you show up, take good notes and study, you will do well in his class. He has a good sense of humor and some great stories. I would highly recommend his classes.
It is a difficult class regardless of how great people said he is. You have to memorize a tons of bone name. A bunch of monkeys name and their characteristic. Many oeople are doing really bad in class with grade c to b. No extra credit can do, most of the scores are from exam and test. If you really need a lab, I recommend bio 100 instead of this.
I love Dr. Schu. I took him for bioanthropology and primatology. His classes are all lecture and if you take notes on the power points you won't have problems with the tests at all. This means GO TO CLASS! He also provides a study guide for every test. I'd recommend making flashcards, there's a lot to remember.
One of the best organized instructors I've ever had. Takes serious pride in his lessons. No need for a textbook if you pay attention and take careful notes. His exercises are clear in their intent and easy to understand. In addition to being fun and funny, he is truly great at his subject as well as instructing.
Wonderful teacher with a great sense of humor. He's always open to helping students when they need it and obviously loves what he does. He doesn't give extra credit work and you have to take a lot of notes, but the tests and homework sheets are relatively easy. I was able to get an A+ using only my notes and the book only occasionally
This class is very hard and if you dont go to class you will not pass. He is an amazing teacher, will help you out a lot. He provides study guides for his exams and lab practicals. They are pretty hard, doable if you come to class. I barely touched the book. His lectures are fun to go to because he is so excited about the subject. Great teacher.
Dr. Rob is intelligent, has great public speaking skills, & offers lots of office hours (beyond Clarks req'd amt) for additional help. If you can attend all the lectures, take notes, commit study guide material to memory, and not be too distracted by his mid-western charm and ruggedly boyish good looks, you should do well.
I took his Bioanthropology class because I thought it would be an easy science class, I took Primatology because he's amazing. If you come to class and take notes you will do well. The lectures are interesting and he provides study guides for his tests that lay out what you need to know. I don't think there was a textbook.
Rob is awesome. WHO knew that Anthropology would be interesting, but he sure made it. Don't miss class is my suggestion! His lectures are great but important for note taking. Provides study guides that if applied right you will do good on the exams. Rob is the teacher to see when taking Anthropology!
He is knowledgeable and it is obvious he has a passion for what he talks about, BUT he is not very good at explaining things. He expects students to know what he is teaching and makes it seems as if it should be common knowledge. Take notes on everything, and study days or weeks ahead of the tests. Good luck.
I have taken two classes with this instructor and he is by far the best instructor I have ever had. He is super passionate about his fields and it shows everyday in his class. The classes are lectures but they don't feel like the usual setting, he keeps you involved, alert, and excited to come to class everyday. Easy tests and quizzes, very helpful
I love Schubert, one of my favorite teachers at Clark. He makes the lecture based class engaging and fun. Whatever you do, don't miss labs. You get marked down 25% on the lab practical if you do. Don't take this class though if you want an easy A, because he really makes you work for the grades. Your grade is based mostly on tests, so study hard.
I enjoyed the lectures, however there was so much information that he expects us to just memorize, he gives a "Study" guide but its only a review of the things we covered. If you want to pass you have to study so much. i took this class because of the reviews and i was very disappointed, trust me this class is very hard.
Reading text does help a lot. Huge focus on lectures for test info. Will not repeat lectures, so you'll need notes from classmates, but he'll explain the notes out of class if needed. Test questions are sometimes badly worded. Tests are basically the only source of your grade. Very friendly and rather funny. He truly enjoys the subject.
He has power points every day that have everything you need to know for the 3 exams. You never use the textbook in class, you just use it at home for the few worksheets that are fairly spaced out through the quarter. He gives out study guides on canvas and if you study them his exams won't be hard. 3 lab practicals. all around a nice guy and prof
Prof. Schu is a great teacher, I highly recommend this class if you're at all interested in anthropology! It's very interesting and he has many stories from the field that he shares in class. Would definitely take this class/another one of his classes again
Great professor who really knows his subject and is passionate about it. He's pretty easy going. Teaches from slides and his own personal experience. However, you will have to be dedicated to the work if you want to get a good grade in this class. No make up exams or quizzes except on an extreme proven cases. Exams are 20%+ each of your final grade
I didn't know what to expect from this class, I just needed science so I took it. I was pleasantly surprised at how interesting it is. Schubert is engaging in his lectures, they aren't just rants, and the lab activities are fun, for the most part. This class isn't hard if you try at least a little bit. If you need a lab science, take this class.
Definitely a difficult class. It's important to attend the lectures to understand. Lab is very simple and is done in a group setting. Lab practicals are fairly easy. The tests are difficult and need to be studied for. The only homework assigned is 3 short worksheets for the whole quarter. Rob is always there to answer any questions and is very nice
Schubert is probably my favorite teacher at Clark. He makes classes interesting and is always ready to help answer any questions his students may have. I could tell Schubert loved what he taught and he was also very kind and considerate to everyone which made class a very positive environment.
His class consists of lectures but they are very interesting and he makes it fun! He is very willing to answer any questions that you have and he has a very friendly and casual feeling to him. Very straightforward and clear instructor. 3 exams (not cumulative), 2 lab practicums, and a weekly online quiz which is directly from the textbook.
Wonderful teacher, I would love to take another class taught by him! He's really passionate about the subject and will answer any and all questions. Mr. Schubert has clearly spent a lot of time investing in his lesson plans and lectures-making them as beneficial to students as possible.
Gives clear and engaging lectures and will always help if you don't understand something. Has weekly quizzes so take notes and go over the chapters in the textbook. He is a great teacher and i look forward to taking other classes with him
Schubert is a super nice, great teacher that I'd definitely recommend. Although I personally disliked the weighted grading system method he uses, his style of teaching and making monkeys interesting is something not many other people could do. He is also loves to help students and is a really cool guy who wants to see his students succeed.
Such a great class (BioAnthropology) and such a great teacher. It was definitely one of the harder classes I have taken but the material is super interesting and this guy knows his stuff! He has been in the field and is super in love with his profession and it shows. Grade was based solely off of quizzes and exams and you have to study hard.
Dr. Schubert is very well educated and has a great passion for the field of Anthropology. While the grade is solely based off of quizzes and lab practicums, study, study, study! He's very understanding and is more than willing to meet outside of class for office hours. Great and respectable guy.
Great professor. Would take again. Make sure you study and attend every class.
Great class! The lectures are actually really interesting. You'll know more about primates than ever before. It's graded off of weekly online quizzes, 3 lecture based exams, and 2 lab practicums. I would reccomend having a good biology background if you're taking bioanthropoly. If you attend every class, take notes, and study, you'll do just fine.
Great teacher! Lectures were very interesting and as long as you pay attention and take good notes it's fairly easy.
Really great at explaining, giving examples, and patiently answering questions. As long as you attend class, pay attention (notes aren't that necessary if you are able to maintain information through just listening to him talk), then the class is actually very easy.
Rob obviously loves the subject of anthropology, as he often recounts memories of his experiences in the before teaching. He gives a lecture nearly every day that covers in-depth many different concepts in specific topics that will be essential to know for tests. I was sad when the class ended, but I'm now inspired to pursue the field as a career.
Overall very interesting material learned in the lectures! Robert is a nice guy and was helpful and informative. However, grades are heavily based on 3 exams. Study hard and attend every class and lab day and take notes on EVERY lecture slide! No extra credit to bring bad grades up or re do exams. So try hard! Not an easy class.
hard class
By far my favorite professor at Clark. Robert is so passionate about his field and it really shows through his lectures. Lectures aren't mandatory, but it makes studying a whole lot easier. From lecture, there are 3 tests throughout the quarter and online weekly quizzes from the book. For lab, attendance is mandatory and there are only 2 tests.
Dr Schubert is incredibly knowledgeable, has a fantastic teaching style, and clearly wants to help students learn about primates. Even if anthropology isn't your major, his teaching style will draw you in and capture your interest. His classes are by no means easy, but they are amazing. I highly recommend this instructor.
I just love the passion that shows through when he's talking about anything Anthropology-related. This is the second class I've taken from him, and sadly probably the last (due to credits), but his lectures are abs phenomenal. Because of him, I now plan to minor in Anthro. Also, he's hilarious and dorky. So relatable.
I didn't even know what bioanthropology was, nor did I expect to enjoy this class. However, I'm really glad I took this class, especially with Schubert! He's really helpful and passionate about the field of anthropology and it shows through his awesome lectures and labs. I got a B- just because I didn't prepare enough for the few tests. Study hard!
Rob was great! I truly enjoyed his class and he had the material fascinating! Not an easy class, but study hard and you will do well!!
Does that make sense?
I honestly had no idea was primatology was before I started class. I am by no means a science fan. However, this is probably one of my favorite classes this year. Rob is such a fantastic instructor. His lectures are amazing; just be attentive and ask questions. The exams are typically pretty rough, but if you take good notes you'll be okay.
I had taken this class thinking it would be easier than Biology. Boy was I wrong, I would have been better off taking biology. The tests are based on the context of vocab. So if you don't know your vocab then good luck on the exams. Weekly quizzes and attendance is mandatory for labs. Also doesn't post powerpoints on canvas so you can't refer back.
Rob is a very passionate instructor! The first day of class, he pointed out that the average passing grade was a C, and that made me skeptical about continuing with it. But, although his tests were hard, it was simple, come to class, listen, and study. We didn't have to write any papers, and the labs were quite interesting.
Loved this class would recommend.
Excellent Professor. I highly recommend him. Attendance is not mandatory except for lab. Semi-weekly reading quizzes (10 Q); Three exams (45 Q)(multi-choice & fill-in-black with word bank); Two Lab practicums (20 Q)(same as exams). He makes class extremely interesting; I never was bored. Study hard and you will pass. GG, 10/10, would take again.
Although attendance isn't graded, you won't do well if you don't attend. He's super clear about exactly what he expects from you, which is great. Tests aren't too bad as long as you review the study guide he provides, and the labs are really fun.
I really enjoyed this class! This class definitely makes you work for your grade and we are only graded on weekly quizzes, 3 exams, lab attendance, and 2 lab exams. This class can seem intimidating especially if you don't have much experience with science courses. There are so many interesting topics to learn from this class and I truly enjoyed it
Professor Robert Schubert is the best Professor at Clark College I have ever had. Class is fun, informative, and engaging. Your grade is composed of: Three exams; an Annotated Bib; an 4-7pg report; and a presentation. Attend every lecture and take notes and you should be fine. Start early on your paper and follow APA to the letter. 10/10 Class/Prof
Loved both classes I took from Rob, he really does love what he does and it shows. We need more teachers like him. Group project for primatology but not bio ANTH. Be ready to study your butt off! Great test turn around normally gets it back to you within a day or two. No cumulative final just a last yeast instead which is great!
Best professor I have had at Clark by far. He made class very entertaining. He is very knowledgeable in his subject, and he has a lot of funny stories. He outlines all the information very well in a study guide, and he is always open to answer questions. It's a shame that this is his last year at Clark. I would recommend taking him while you can!
Great class with a great professor. As long as you work hard for your grade and study, it should be no issue to achieve an A. 3 exams, a paper, a presentation, a quiz, and an annotated bibliography are the graded portions of this class. Don't miss class or else you'll miss important information and the study guides he provides help a lot.
He is a very enjoyable, great professor, just extremely difficult.
Dr. Schubert is the best professor I've had! He is patient when people ask lots of questions. The lecture is engaging and you can tell he genuinely cares about what he is teaching. Because of him, I have never been more sure that Anthropology is the way I want to go in life. I don't recommend to people looking for an easy A - you won't find it.
Really nice person and very funny, but whats on the study guides are not on the test. The tests are worth 60% of the grade and require you to study for at least a week. He has weekly quizzes that aren't worth doing because they don't affect the grade at all. It was hard for me because I have never had a class that required me to study.
Dr Schubert is one of the best mentors Ive ever had Hes organized, his lectures are on point to target every type of audience and learning styles He breaks down the entire text book into his lectures, and is truly passionate about the subject Do your fair share of work go to class go to office hours if you have questions and its a guaranteed A
Dr. Schubert is probably one of the best professors I have ever had! He is very passionate about his work and is a very chill guy to talk too. The class was really difficult because there are no assignments due, your main priority is studying for the tests which are very challenging. The professor was great, the class was time consuming!
Best class I have taken at Clark (and Im on my last quarter). You have to work for your A but it is achievable. You can tell he really cares about what hes teaching which really reflects in how the class feels as well. Overall such a great class and time I had.
His lectures are interesting, but his tests are much harder than necessary. He complains that half the class doesn't do well because they didn't study. People are studying- his tests are just too hard.
One of the best classes I have taken at Clark. Dr. Shu makes the class very interesting and versatile. Exams can be hard, but if you watch the lectures and print the powerpoint presentation, the are not too bad. He always gives feedback and answers his emails promptly. Great class!
He was great! There was a lot of work and test heavy and they are hard. He was kind and helpful but this is a hard class.
Primatology on its own is fun: Dr. Schubert makes it all the better. All of the quiz answers are in his pre-recorded video lectures that have very clear and great audio/video quality. He always responds whenever you need help. His online class is very neatly organized and there's no textbook required! Very nice person in general. HIGHLY recommend!
Primatology is the only science class I have ever enjoyed. Great class, really interesting. Just beware the tests are hard and are rather often. Just take all the notes you can for the tests. But besides the tests, the classwork is very manageable and not too hard.
Great professor!
This class is somewhat okay. You do really need to read the information and textbook which are small letterings to respond to the discussion. There is a quiz of 20 questions, and for each question, you really need to think about them. We did an essay at the end of a cross-cultural experience which I feel like he could've given more instructions.
He is a good professor, his exams are super hard, if you really study for them you will get a good grade and if you are actually interested in the subject. He is strict on the term project at the end of the term.
Pretty easy class overall. Instructor assigns usually three easy weekly quizzes each with three questions, a weekly discussion and activity, and a test every two weeks. Quizzes, discussions & assignments are very easy. Tests are moderately challenging. He gives great feedback and returns assignments really quickly. Would totally take again.
I enjoyed the professor himself but the class was hard & had a weird vibe for being online. I was told directly that the class is designed to end in a final grade of a high C/Low B (despite me filling 2 notebooks for a single class). Test heavy (& low class scores) & 3 15min lectures a week. Feedback wasn't the best but he was responsive to emails!
My biggest issue was the tests. The module reviews were 90% effective as a study guide, but every test had questions that were not indicated at all as areas to focus on. Spent hours studying but never got full points. I enjoyed the recorded lectures though, for me having that point of connection really helps ground me in online classes.
Assignments themselves aren't difficult, but the instructions are inconsistent and very broad. You could follow it perfectly and get marked down for not including something that he doesn't say to include.
Amazing professor, always leaves nice feedback on my assignments and teaches an incredibly interesting class.
The professor is engaging, but the class can be challenging. Assignments have inconsistent instructions, and exams require focused preparation. Unstuck study proved useful for studying alongside the module reviews.
I feel like this class is pretty easy. He doesn't accept late work but that's fine because the assignments are easy enough to get done early enough to not be late. He doesn't give extra credit either. Some weeks we had to read a lot while others were just a couple of pages. 1 assignment, 1 discussion, and 1 test a week (20 questions + 1 essay ?).
I felt like this class was pretty easy. I printed out all the lecture slides and took notes on them when watching, and I aced every quiz (use the concept review to check your understanding). Discussion posts were easy, and assignments were too, as long as you followed the rubric. He doesn't accept late work, but that's fine. Quizzes are open book.
Dr. Schubert is a great professor and I would definitely recommend. If lots of work is not your thing, then don't take his class. If you are truly interested in primates, this class is very interesting and engaging. discussion post with replies, an activity, and a weekly quiz each week.
I was so glad to get in his last class at Clark. He is awesome and has *great lectures*! Didn't really need to do any of the "reading", the lectures with the review questions were enough to succeed. The activities are fun, and I was able to do them first thing without needing to do the weeks' reading first.. they make for a good introduction.
